Eye on China:
News to Note this week
1. US declares China a currency manipulator, says it's using yuan to gain 'unfair advantage' in trade - CNBC.com
The U.S. Treasury Department on Monday designated China as currency manipulator, a historic move that no White House had exercised since the Clinton administration.
"Secretary Mnuchin, under the auspices of President Trump, has today determined that China is a Currency Manipulator," the Treasury Department said in a release. "As a result of this determination, Secretary Mnuchin will engage with the International Monetary Fund to eliminate the unfair competitive advantage created by China's latest actions."
The formal designation - the first since President Bill Clinton's administration in 1994 - came after China on Monday allowed its currency to breach a psychological level. The yuan fell to 7 against the dollar earlier in the session for the first time since 2008.
"In recent days, China has taken concrete steps to devalue its currency, while maintaining substantial foreign exchange reserves despite active use of such tools in the past," the Treasury Department added. "The context of these actions and the implausibility of China's market stability rationale confirm that the purpose of China's currency devaluation is to gain unfair competitive advantage in international trade." 2. China responds to US after Treasury designates Beijing a 'currency manipulator' - CNBC
China's central bank has firmly rejected the U.S. Treasury's designation of Beijing as a currency manipulator, saying the accusation has "seriously" undermined the international financial order and risked further market turmoil.
The response from the People's Bank of China comes at a time of rapidly intensifying trade tensions between the world's two largest economies.
On Monday, the U.S. Treasury accused Beijing of deliberately influencing the exchange rate between the yuan and the U.S. dollar to gain an "unfair competitive advantage in international trade." The move fulfills President Donald Trump's promise to recognize China as a currency manipulator for the first time since 1994.
The announcement followed a sharp drop in the yuan against the dollar, with the Chinese currency breaching the 7-per-dollar level for the first time since 2008. A drop in a currency's value makes that country's products cheaper on the international market.
"The United States disregards the facts and unreasonably affixes China with the label of 'currency manipulators,' which is a behavior that harms others and oneself," the PBOC said in a statement on Tuesday. "The Chinese side firmly opposes this." (Read more)
3. Dow ends more than 700 points lower as trade war escalation with China pummels stock market - USA Today
President Trump's 'America First' approach has relied on slapping tariffs on countries, such as China and Mexico, which have led to current trade wars. What is a tariff and how do they work? We explain. Just the FAQs, USA TODAY Stocks got clobbered Monday in the biggest rout of the year for the three major indexes as trade tensions between the U.S. and China intensified. Investors frantically dumped shares after China's currency, the yuan, weakened sharply against the U.S. dollar, a move seen as a possible retaliation against President Donald Trump's call last week for more tariffs on Chinese goods. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 767 points, or 2.9%, to close at around 25,718, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index tumbled 87 points, or nearly 3%, to end at 2,845. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite fell the most of the major indexes, losing 278 points, or 3.47%, to finish at 7,726 on Monday. "The cold, hard reality is that after a year, (trade) negotiations have gone nowhere. In fact, it has just gotten worse," said Nick Giacoumakis, president of New England Investment and Retirement Group. "I thought it would get ugly today, and that's exactly what happened." (Read more)
- Father, we repent for our national sin of using China's slave labor to support our materialism, consequently enabling the Chinese government to steal our technology and threaten us and our allies with military force. We ask You to give Godly wisdom to President Trump, Secretary Pompeo, and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer as they attempt to resolve our differences diplomatically. We ask that the markets be stabilized, once again, in Your name, amen.
- Say to the anxious and fearful, "Be strong and never afraid. Look, here comes your God! He is breaking through to give you victory! He comes to avenge your enemies. With divine retribution he comes to save you!" (Isaiah 35:4)

1. Shin Bet Foils Hamas Terror Plot Against Israel And Palestinians - Jerusalem Post
The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) thwarted a major Hamas terrorist attack in Jerusalem after an explosive charge ready for use and a laboratory were uncovered in Hebron.
The cell had been planning the attack before it was broken up by a joint Shin Bet, IDF and Israel Police investigation. It was operating under direction from Hamas's military wing in the Gaza Strip to carry out attacks against Israeli and Palestinian Authority targets.
Cell members were instructed to establish teams for carrying out kidnapping, shooting and stabbing attacks, to purchase weapons and to recruit others for carrying out terrorist attacks, the Shin Bet said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the security forces, saying "our enemies should know that our long arm will reach whoever tries to attack us."

2. Palestinians Declare 'Control' Over Israeli Territory - United With Israel
The Palestinian Authority will treat all of Judea and Samaria as being under its administrative and security control, P.A. Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said on Sunday.
Speaking at a meeting in his Ramallah office with owners of homes demolished by Israel last month in Wadi Hummus, Shtayyeh said that "Israel no longer respects any of the signed agreements and deals, [treating] all areas [in Judea and Samaria] as if they were Area C. Accordingly, we will deal with all areas as if they are Area A."
Area A of Judea and Samaria is fully controlled by the P.A. according to the Oslo Accords, while Area B is administered by the P.A. but under Israeli military control. Area C, comprising some 60 percent of the territory, is under full Israeli control.

3. Netanyahu: There will not be a unity government - Israel National News
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is pledging that he will establish a right-wing government after the elections and will not form a unity government with the left.
In a column published in the Israel Hayomnewspaper, Netanyahu wrote, "My commitment is clear: To establish a strong right-wing government after the elections, which will continue to lead the State of Israel to unprecedented achievements and safeguard Israeli citizens."
"This is my commitment to Likud voters. There will be no unity government," the Prime Minister stressed.
"The choice that Israel faces in the coming elections is one: Who will be the next prime minister of Israel? Will there be a weak and inexperienced left-wing government headed by Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz, or a strong right-wing government headed by the Likud under my leadership?"

4. Israel Participating in US-led Maritime Security Mission in Gulf - Jewish Press
Israeli forces are participating in the US-led naval mission taking place in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz.
Speaking on Tuesday at a closed-door session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Katz said Israel is assisting the mission with intelligence and in other, unspecified areas in which Israel has a relative advantage, according to the Hebrew-language Ynet news site.
The report did not say whether Israel will send naval vessels to participate in the mission, although a report last month by Israel's Kan public broadcasting network discounted that possibility.

5. Lithuanian Jews indefinitely shut community center, only synagogue after threats - Times Of Israel
Citing threats and "incitement," the Lithuanian Jewish community on Tuesday announced that it was shutting its doors, and that of Vilnius's only functioning synagogue, for an indefinite amount of time, in what appeared to be escalating public debate over the way the Baltic state deals with its complicated history.
The Jewish community's drastic steps came as Lithuanian nationalists fumed over decisions by the Vilnius municipality last week to rename a street that had been named after wartime diplomat and Hitler ally Kazys Skirpa, and to remove a plaque of Nazi collaborator Jonas Noreika at the entrance to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
Both men, who fought the Soviets in World War II, are revered as national heroes but have been involved in anti-Jewish measures as well. Jewish historians and activists welcomed the municipality's move as two steps in the right direction, while Lithuanians nationalists called for nationwide protests.

President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will travel tomorrow to Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, where mass shootings over the weekend claimed more than 30 lives and injured dozens more.
"We are outraged and sickened by this monstrous evil, the cruelty, the hatred, the malice, the bloodshed, and the terror," President Trump said yesterday at the White House. "Our hearts are shattered for every family whose parents, children, husbands, and wives were ripped from their arms and their lives."
The President also called for bipartisan action to confront gun violence, condemned the scourge of white supremacy, and thanked law enforcement in Ohio and Texas "who responded to these atrocities with the extraordinary grace and courage of American heroes."

2. "We Are Watching Google Very Closely": Trump Slams Search Giant For 'Making Sure He Loses In 2020' - ZeroHedge
Trump explained how CEO Sundar Pichai "was in the Oval Office working very hard to explain how much he liked me, what a great job the Administration is doing, that Google was not involved with China's military, that they didn't help Crooked Hillary over me in the 2016 Election, and that they are NOT planning to illegally subvert the 2020 Election despite all that has been said to the contrary."
On Monday night, Trump tweeted a clip of former Google engineer Kevin Cernekee explaining how the company was distrought after Trump won in 2016 "They vowed that it would never happen again, and they want to use all the power and all the resources they have to control the flow of information to the public and make sure that Trump loses in 2020."
Trump then tweeted an interview with investigative journalist Peter Schweizer, who explained that Google suppressed negative stories about Hillary Clinton and boosted negative stories about Trump. He added that in 2016, Google thought Trump would lose and didn't need to tip the scales as much. In 2020, they'll "go all in," according to Schweizer. (Read more)

3. Mick Mulvaney cheers for more federal workers to quit, 'wonderful way' to drain swamp - Washington Examiner
The former South Carolina lawmaker, addressing the state Republican Party's Silver Elephant gala, was explaining the economic achievements of the administration when he turned to the president's 2016 campaign promise to drain the swamp. "It's really, really hard to drain the swamp, but we're working at it," he said.
He said that when he was the temporary chief of the huge Consumer Financial Protection Bureau created in legislation pushed by 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren, he tried to move it to Cleveland. But, he said, the legislation barred him from that. "It was against the law for me to move" it, he said. "That's how hard liberals work in making sure government lives forever. And the government consistently gets bigger, and you can't make it any smaller," he added.
But he told of the success in moving some agencies outside the Beltway and the added benefit of bureaucrats quitting. Mulvaney cited the administration's decision to move two Department of Agriculture research agencies to Kansas City. "By simply saying to people, 'You know what, we're going to take you outside the bubble, outside the Beltway, outside this liberal haven of Washington, D.C., and move you out to the real part of the country, and they quit. 4. Operation Independence Day - FBI.gov
A month long FBI-led operation to identify and arrest sex traffickers and recover child victims has resulted in dozens of arrests across the country and the identification and recovery of more than 100 juveniles. In all, 103 juveniles were identified or recovered and 67 suspected traffickers were arrested. The sweep resulted in 60 new federal investigations.
"The FBI is fiercely focused on recovering child victims and arresting the sex traffickers who exploit them," FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement. "Through operations like this, the FBI helps child victims escape the abusive life of sex trafficking."
In his remarks, Director Wray said the FBI's focus on the issue is not confined to a single week or month each year. The effort to find and stop traffickers and recover kids is ongoing and continuous. "Our agents, intelligence analysts, professional staff, and victim specialists work tirelessly before, during, and after these operations to make sure that victims get the help they need to reclaim their lives," Wray said. 5. States with Weakest Recoveries Since 'Great Recession' Enjoy Soaring Income Growth in Trump Economy - Breitbart
Analysis conducted by Pew Research Center reveals that states like West Virginia, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Alabama, Mississippi, and Iowa have enjoyed major gains in personal income growth over the last year compared to their lagging income growth since the Great Recession.
The personal income growth of American residents in states with weak economic recoveries since the Great Recession is welcome news following years of former President Obama's economic recovery efforts that mostly aided wealthy zip codes and coastal cities.
As Breitbart News reported, research by the Economic Innovation Group found that by 2016, elite zip codes had a surplus of 3.6 million jobs. This is more than the combined bottom 80 percent of American zip codes. Similarly, while it only took about five years for wealthy cities to replace the jobs lost by the recession, it took "at-risk" communities a decade to recover, and "distressed" communities may never recover. 6. Shadow Money Arrives in Virginia - FreeBeacon
A new federal political action committee with ties to a shadowy network of liberal billionaires has contributed $200,000 to help Virginia Democrats retake the statehouse, according to FEC filings from the organization.
The largest contribution to the PAC, which did not respond to request for comment, comes from the Civic Participation Action Fund, a left-wing advocacy organization. The group donated $100,000 to the Virginia Plus PAC on April 15. The Civic Participation Action Fund (CPAF) is directly connected to hedge fund billionaire George Soros and the Democracy Alliance network. IRS filings show the fund gifted grants to Democracy Alliance in 2017, 2016, and 2015, the most recent years available. Neither CPAF nor the Democracy Alliance responded to requests for comment.
The funding from prominent national liberal donors signals a continued focus by national Democratic donors to flip the Republican legislative majorities in Virginia. Heading into the 2019 elections, Republicans maintain narrow majorities in both chambers of the legislature and Democrats only need to flip two seats in each chamber to gain a majority. (Read more)

7. Joaquin Castro Posts Names, Employers Of Trump Donors - Daily Caller
Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro on Monday tweeted the names and employers of 44 San Antonio residents who donated the federal maximum to President Donald Trump's reelection campaign. Castro, whose district includes much of San Antonio, claimed the donors "are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as 'invaders.'" Castro is the twin brother of Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro and chairs his presidential campaign.
"Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump," the congressman wrote, proceeding to name local businesses whose owners gave the maximum to Trump's campaign. Eleven of the 44 donors shown in Rep. Castro's post listed their employment as "retired."
Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh is demanding Castro delete the post. "This naming of private citizens and their employers is reckless and irresponsible. He is endangering the safety of people he is supposed to be representing," Murtaugh told the Daily Caller News Foundation. "No one should be targeted for exercising their First Amendment rights or for their political beliefs. He should delete the tweet, apologize, and his brother's campaign should disavow it," Murtaugh added. (Read more)

- Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt. We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud. (Psalm 123:3-4)
8. North Korea fires two missiles into sea to keep pressure on Washington - Fox News
North Korea fired two presumed short-range ballistic missiles into the sea Tuesday and lashed out against the U.S. and South Korea for continuing military exercises amid stalled nuclear diplomacy.
The regime's fourth round of weapons launches in less than two weeks came as the U.S. and North Korea are in deadlock over nuclear talks even as the North's new military capabilities could strike Seoul and American military bases there. President Trump somewhat downplayed the threat from the North over the missile tests, while experts say the tests are designed to pressure Washington to resume diplomacy.
South Korea's military alerted reporters to the launches minutes before the North's Foreign Ministry denounced Washington and Seoul over the start of their joint exercises on Monday. The regime said in a statement that the drills, which North Korea sees as an invasion rehearsal, leave the country "compelled to develop, test and deploy the powerful physical means essential for national defense."
North Korea said it will wait to see if South Korea and the U.S. go ahead with the planned exercises and then decide the future of diplomacy with the U.S. and whether to continue its unilateral suspension of nuclear and long-range missile tests. (Read more)

9. Pakistan's Army "Prepared" To Support Kashmir As PM Khan Warns "More Suicide Attacks" Coming - ZeroHedge
After yesterday's unprecedented revocation of an over 50-year old constitutional article which gave Indian-administered Kashmir special autonomous status, Pakistan's army has shot back in provocative statements saying it will "go to any extent" to support Kashmiris amid an Indian military crackdown. "Pakistan Army firmly stands by the Kashmiris in their just struggle to the very end," said General Qamar Javed Bajwa after meeting with top commanders over the crisis.
The now voided Article 370 is legally and historically what assured a high degree autonomy for the Indian administered Muslim-majority state, enshrined in the constitution, which inhabitants there see as justifying remaining part of India. The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata leadership in New Delhi, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revoked the Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) status quo ability and rights to maintain their own local governance on Monday.
We noted this could put India and Pakistan on a direct collision course for war, following reports of weekend shelling in the contested region by Indian forces - indeed CNN has reported Indian-controlled Kashmir is on "lockdown" with phone lines and internet cut, as tens of thousands of Indian troops have been freshly deployed, and with key prominent local politicians under house arrest. 10. Mitch McConnell fractures shoulder after fall in Kentucky home, spokesman says - Fox
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., suffered a fractured shoulder after a fall Sunday morning at his home.
McConnell injured his shoulder after he tripped and fell while on the outside patio of his Louisville home. The specifics of his injury, such as which shoulder was injured, was not revealed.
"This morning, Leader McConnell tripped at home on his outside patio and suffered a fractured shoulder," David Popp, McConnell's communications director, said in a statement.
The 77-year-old was treated and released and is working from his home, Popp said. McConnell returned to Kentucky after the Senate began a five-week recess Thursday, hailing the chamber for a hard-won budget deal that staves off a possible government shutdown.
- Lord, we ask for a hedge of Your protection around our legislators, and apply the Blood of Jesus against the workings of the enemy. We declare the Lordship of Jesus over our Congress, and denounce every wicked plan against them. We pray that You will touch the heart of Senator McConnell and heal him fully. May he come to know You as Savior in a personal way.

How can Satan drive out Satan?
The visceral rhetoric continues as the opponents of President Donald Trump pile on with accusations of racism and white supremacism. Over and over again, using every opportunity, this president is being characterized as a racist and white supremacist by Democrats and the media. The shootings in El Paso, TX, and Dayton, OH fueled the flames of outrageous politicization of mass killings. Leaders of this country are so busy labeling people who disagree with them with derogatory names that the horror of what happened, the lives it took and impacted, are just a sidebar to a greater agenda. Shame on these politicians for wasting no time in using this crisis of death for political gain.
Every instance is being used to characterize Trump and those who may support him as racists, bigots, and white supremacists. Other than banning guns-which is proven not to work in California, Chicago and Baltimore-they have no concrete solutions. But who is offering condolences, condemnation of these accusations, and solutions to the problem? Who is saying, "Now is the time to set destructive partisanship aside-so destructive-and find the courage to answer hatred with unity, devotion, and love"? Trump, that's who. Who is fanning the flames of division? Christ said in Matthew 12:25, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." He also asked how can Satan drive out Satan. Indeed.
Have a blessed and powerful day,

Barack Obama Blames Donald Trump Rhetoric for Mass Shootings
In a message shared on Twitter, the former president specifically called for more gun control to help prevent more mass shootings.
"Until all of us stand up and insist on holding public officials accountable for changing our gun laws, these tragedies will keep happening," Obama said in a statement, citing "evidence" that proved that more gun control could stop "some killings."
Obama lamented that "no other nation on Earth" experienced the level of gun violence the United States does.
The former president also called for more censorship of "white nationalist websites" to prevent radicalization.
"[T]here are indications that the El Paso shooting follows a dangerous trend: troubled individuals who embrace racist ideologies and see themselves obligated to act violently to preserve white supremacy," he wrote.
He compared the radicalization of white nationalists to that of followers of Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists.
"That means that both law enforcement agencies and internet platforms need to come up with better strategies to reduce the influence of these hate groups," he wrote.
. . . The [former] president also shared a link to a Vox.com article calling for a bold plan to enact gun control. (Breitbart) Read more here.
- Lord God Almighty, in spite of these sweet smelling words that may deceive us into thinking that guns are THE problem, and that taking them away from us is THE answer, we have only to examine world history to know the truth: Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse Tung, Fidel Castro and many, many others through time have taken control over their people by confiscating their guns and then . . . nothing was left.
Help us to recognize Obama's lies for what they are, and to find the grace to remain "true to the true" that our liberties might yet be preserved in the United States of America. In Your Name, amen.
- Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure- you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts. (Psalm 7:9 NIV)

Trump Reacts to Obama Racism Claim
President Donald Trump early Tuesday spoke out on Twitter against former President Barack Obama's statement in the wake of a pair of weekend shootings, after Obama called for Americans to reject the rhetoric "coming out of the mouths of any of our leaders" that feeds "fear and hatred and normalizes racist sentiments."
Quoting a pair of Fox News' "Fox & Friends" hosts, Trump first challenged Obama's criticism with a quote suggesting that Obama's predecessor in the White House, George Bush, never condemned Obama after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, and then the president declared himself to be the "least racist person."
"'Did George Bush ever condemn President Obama after Sandy Hook,'" Trump posted, citing Fox's Brian Kilmeade. "President Obama had 32 mass shootings during his reign. Not many people said Obama is out of Control. Mass shootings were happening before the President even thought about running."
In a second tweet, he added: "'It's political season and the election is around the corner,'" citing show co-host Ainsley Earhardt, before adding a postscript in his own words:
"And I am the least racist person. Black, Hispanic and Asian Unemployment is the lowest (BEST) in the history of the United States!" (Newsmax)

Trump digs in on racist tweets:
'Many people agree with me'
WASHINGTON (AP) - Defiant in the face of widespread criticism, President Donald Trump renewed his belligerent call on Monday for four Democratic congresswomen of color to get out of the U.S. "right now," cementing his position as the most willing U.S. leader in generations to stoke the discord that helped send him to the White House.
Content to gamble that a sizeable chunk of the electorate embraces his tweets that have been widely denounced as racist, the president made clear that he has no qualms about exploiting racial divisions once again.
"It doesn't concern me because many people agree with me," Trump said at the White House. "A lot of people love it, by the way."
The episode served notice that Trump is willing to again rely on incendiary rhetoric on issues of race and immigration to preserve his political base in the leadup to the 2020 election.
There was near unanimous condemnation from Democrats for Trump's comments and a rumble of discontent from a subset of Republicans - but notably not from the party's congressional leaders.
Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, the GOP White House nominee in 2012 and now one of the president's most vocal GOP critics, said Trump's comments were "destructive, demeaning, and disunifying."
Far from backing down, Trump on Monday dug in on comments he had initially made a day earlier on Twitter that if lawmakers "hate our country," they can go back to their "broken and crime-infested" countries. His remarks were directed at four congresswomen: Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All are American citizens and three of the four were born in the U.S.
"If you're not happy in the U.S., if you're complaining all the time, you can leave, you can leave right now," he said.
The president questioned whether Democrats should "want to wrap" themselves around this group of four people as he recited a list of the quartet's most controversial statements.
The four themselves fired back late Monday, condemning what they called "xenophobic bigoted remarks" from the president and renewing calls for their party to begin impeachment proceedings.
Trump "does not know how to defend his policies and so what he does is attack us personally," said Ocasio-Cortez.

Eye on Iran:
News to Note this week
1. Rouhani warns war with Iran will be 'mother of all wars,' calls for peace - Times of Israel
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned Tuesday that a war with his country would be the "mother of all wars," as he called for peace as well.
"Peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, war with Iran is the mother of all wars," Rouhani said. according to the Reuters news agency.
He also referred to Britain's seizing off Gibraltar of an Iranian tanker suspected of carrying oil to war-torn Syria in violation of EU sanctions.
"A strait for a strait. It can't be that the Strait of Hormuz is free for you and the Strait of Gibraltar is not free for us," Rouhani said. (Read more)
2. Senior Iranian commander: The Islamic republic is on Israel's borders - Jerusalem Post
Iran's front has extended to the Mediterranean Sea and the borders of Israel, a senior Iranian commander said on Monday.
"Our defensive depth has stretched to the Mediterranean Sea and our front has extended to the borders of the Zionist regime [of Israel]," Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brig.-Gen. Mehdi Rabbani was quoted by Iran's Fars News Agency as saying on Sunday.
"Today, Hezbollah and Hamas have gained great power and do not need our help anymore, and all of their [Israelis'] locations are within reach of the Lebanese Hezbollah," Rabbani added. (Read more)
3. Iran said increasing Hamas funding to $30m per month, wants intel on Israel - Times of Israel
[As reported last week]
Iran has agreed to massively increase its monthly payments to Palestinian terror group Hamas in exchange for intelligence on Israeli missile capabilities, an Israeli television network reported Monday.
The Islamic Republic is a longtime financial supporter of Hamas, the terror organization that rules the Gaza Strip and is committed to Israel's destruction.
In a recent meeting in Tehran between nine senior Hamas officials and Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Tehran expressed willingness to raise its monthly financial backing to the terror group to an unprecedented $30 million per month, Channel 12 reported, citing an unnamed Arab source. 4. Iran thinks it can do whatever it wants in the Gulf - analysis - Jerusalem Post
Iran said that it seized another ship on Sunday [July 28th] - an oil tanker it accused of smuggling oil from Iraq. Tehran has also mocked America's attempt to create an international coalition to protect shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. In short, Iran's message is: We can do whatever we want in our Gulf and Strait.
This is a far cry from the early days of May when the US warned Tehran against any provocations and threatened "unrelenting force." Instead Washington has been cautious in its response. First came the sabotage of four tankers in May 12 and then the attack on two more on June 13, rockets fired near US bases in Iraq in mid-June, the downing of the US drone on June 20, harassment of a British oil tanker on July 11, capture of the tanker Riah on July 13 and the capture of a British tanker on July 19, as well as the recent seizing of another tanker on August 4.
Iran would argue that all of these incidents are responses, or deny that it had even carried out some of them. But it increasingly appears that the Islamic republic is involved not only in the attacks in Iraq, but also attacks in Saudi Arabia and against the tankers. But the real message is that Iran can do what it wants, and there is no "unrelenting" response. In fact, there is little response. The US has said that sanctions are breaking Iran and that it is facing "relentless" pressure. Iran says it faces "economic terrorism" and accuses the US and UK, as well as others, of working against it. Iran is scrapping parts of the nuclear deal in response. (Read more)
- Father God, Your Word says we are to continue to "watch and pray," and in regard to the nation of Iran, this is exactly what we are doing. We bring You the millions of believers in Iran before Your Throne of Grace, asking for their help and protection in time of need. And as the nations line up around this dangerous land, we ask only that Your perfect will be done in and through Iran, in Your name, amen.

JUST AS I AM
"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29)
JUST AS I AM
"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29)
Lyrics
Just as I am-without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee- O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am-and waiting not To rid my soul of one dark blot, To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot- O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am-though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without- O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am-poor, wretched, blind; Sight, riches, healing of the mind, Yea, all I need in Thee to find- O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am-Thou wilt receive, Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Thy promise I believe- O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am-Thy love unknown Hath broken every barrier down; Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone- O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Just as I am-of that free love The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove, Here for a season, then above- O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

About the Hymn:
Evangelist Billy Graham said he was saved in 1934 in a revival meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina, led by Mordecai Ham, after hearing Just As I Am. This became an altar call song in the Billy Graham Crusades in the latter half of the 20th Century. Graham also used it in the title of his 1997 book, Just As I Am: The Autobiography of Billy Graham.

Scientists make unprecedented find in Hawaii's most active volcano
Scientists have made an unprecedented discovery in Hawaii's most active volcano. Researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed last week that there is water at the bottom of the summit crater of Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, which they say is "unusual" because there has never been a pond of water observed there in recorded history.
USGS-Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) scientists made the unusual discovery after receiving a tip from the public about the presence of apparent water in the volcano crater, according to HVO scientist emeritus Don Swanson.
Swanson, writing in a blog post for the USGS, revealed that a friend of his had received a photo from a helicopter pilot who flew over the volcano and noticed what appeared to be a green pool of water "about as large as a pickup truck." A subsequent flyover resulted in more photos of the apparent pond.
A passenger in another helicopter also caught a glimpse of the mysterious green feature and posted a photo of it on social media, Swanson said. That was enough for HVO researchers to want to take a look for themselves.
HVO scientists flew over the summit of KÄ«lauea last Thursday and they saw reflections from the green pond at the bottom of Halema'uma'u, Swanson reported -- "the smoking gun for water," as he put it.
Although scientists remain unsure as to what the water may bring, they are aware that water mixing with lava can create explosive eruptions.
With the presence of water confirmed, HVO scientists can now start thinking about the implications of water in the crater. Until they better understand where the water is coming from, they say it is impossible to understand its significance.

Texas grandma heroically foils grandson's mass shooting plot by bringing him to hospital
"This was a tragedy averted. I want to praise the defendant's grandmother, who saved lives by interrupting this plot, as well as the Lubbock police officers and federal agents who investigated his unlawful acquisition of a deadly weapon. If you suspect a friend or loved one is planning violence against themselves or others, do not hesitate to seek help immediately by calling law enforcement." -US Attorney Nealy Cox said in a statement.
A Texas grandmother was hailed as a hero by federal authorities after she foiled a potential mass shooting by taking her grandson to a hospital after he allegedly made threats.
William Patrick Williams, 19, was taken into custody by federal agents in Lubbock, Texas, after he told his grandmother about a plot to "shoot up" a local hotel and then commit suicide by cop, according to the Department of Justice.
According to a criminal complaint, the plot came to light on July 13, just weeks before a pair of mass shootings claimed the lives of at least 31 people in one weekend, when Williams told his grandmother that he'd purchased an AK-47.
Sensing he could be both homicidal and suicidal, federal officials said the grandmother convinced Williams to go with her to a local hospital instead of carrying out the shooting, averting a potential tragedy.
"This was a tragedy averted," U.S. Attorney Nealy Cox said in a statement. "I want to praise the defendant's grandmother, who saved lives by interrupting this plot, as well as the Lubbock police officers and federal agents who investigated his unlawful acquisition of a deadly weapon."
"If you suspect a friend or loved one is planning violence against themselves or others, do not hesitate to seek help immediately by calling law enforcement," she added. (ABC News) Read more.

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners
Our Mission Statement
Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
