Focus on Israel

1. Before election, PM aims for Trump backing for Israel sovereignty at settlements - Times Of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking a public declaration from US President Donald Trump ahead of the September elections backing an Israeli move to extend its sovereignty over Jewish settlements in the West Bank, officials in the Prime Minister's Office told Zman Yisrael, The Times of Israel's Hebrew-language site, on Sunday.

While Netanyahu cannot himself take the far-reaching diplomatic step of extending Israeli sovereignty to the settlements while he is leading the current caretaker government, the Prime Minister's Office is lobbying for public support from Trump for such a move. This would enable Netanyahu to credibly assure right-wing voters that he can and will move quickly to apply sovereignty to the settlements if he is again elected premier.

If issued, such a declaration by Trump would mark the third far-reaching diplomatic shift by the White House in under two years, after Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in 2017 and moved its embassy there, and recognized Israeli control over the Golan Heights earlier this year, shortly before the previous elections.

2. At the southern tip of the Red Sea, Iran poses a direct threat to Israel - Times Of Israel

As Iran seeks to intimidate its way out of US-led economic sanctions, including by seizing tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, a top Israeli expert has warned that Israel would be immensely vulnerable if Tehran extends this tactic to a second strategic waterway.

Prof. Shaul Chorev, a rear admiral (ret.) who heads the Maritime Policy & Strategic Research Center at the University of Haifa, noted that last August, Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Bab al-Mandab strait at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. That incident prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to directly warn Iran against seeking to block the strait, and promise that Israel and a "determined international coalition" would prevent this. A full third of Israel's global trade is with the Far East, Chorev noted, billions of dollars' worth of Israeli imports and exports pass through Bab al-Mandab, and Israel thus "needs to worry" about what plays out there. In a recent strategic overview produced by his maritime research center, he urged that Israel formulate an overall strategy to face up to the threat "via a naval coalition with Western forces that operate in the area, or independently."

3. Record number of Jews visit Temple Mount on Tisha B'Av, despite riots - JNS

(August 11, 2019 / JNS) Riots erupted on the Temple Mount on Sunday, as Muslims celebrating Eid al-Adha ("Festival of Sacrifice") attempted to prevent Jews from entering. Police ultimately pushed back against the protesters to allow a record-breaking number of Jews to visit the site.

Hundreds of Jews lined up to visit the Temple Mount on the morning of Tisha B'Av, the day on which Jews mourn the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem, as well as a series of calamities which befell the Jewish people throughout history on the same date.

However, local Islamic authorities on Friday had urged Muslims to converge on the site on Sunday in the hope of preventing Jews from praying there.

4. Hezbollah MP: Israel preparing to start a war- Israel National News

Mohammad Raad, a Lebanese lawmaker on behalf of Hezbollah, claimed on Sunday that Israel is preparing to start a war against Lebanon.

"The Israeli enemy is preparing to wage a war against us but the resistance is ready to face it with our men, society and capacity," Raad was quoted by the Xinhua news agency as having said during a ceremony held in southern Lebanon.

Raad added that Israel is totally wrong if it thinks it can defeat Hezbollah and said that the "resistance" has the capacity to paralyze the enemy's existence.

"We will never take it at ease with an enemy that threatens our existence and role. We offer a lot of concessions internally but we never lose sight of our enemy's strategic movements and we will teach Israel a lesson that threatens its existence if it ever thinks of waging a war against our nations," he said.

5. Archaeologists find evidence of Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem -- as told in the Bible - CNN

(CNN) - Archaeologists excavating on Mount Zion in Jerusalem have uncovered evidence of the Babylonian conquest of the city, appearing to confirm a Biblical account of its destruction. Academics from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte made significant finds, including ash deposits, arrowheads and broken pieces of pots and lamps. The most surprising discovery, however, was an item of jewelry, which appears to be a tassel or earring with a bell-shaped upper portion, the researchers said. Shimon Gibson, co-director of the university's Mount Zion archaeological project, told CNN that the recovery of the rare piece of jewelry is the first time that archaeologists have uncovered signs of the "elites," appearing to confirm Biblical descriptions of Jerusalem's wealth prior to the conquest in 587-586 BC. Gibson said jewelry is a rare find at conflict sites as warriors would normally loot it and melt it down. It is a "clear indication of the wealth of the inhabitants of the city at the time of the siege," he said.

The Daily Brief

1. Pompeo Calls for US, Australia to Present United Front to China - Daily Signal

The U.S.-Australia alliance is "more vital than ever," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, calling on greater cooperation between the two countries to deal with a new era of security challenges as China seeks to extend its influence in the Indo-Pacific region. China has had a recent spate of maritime confrontations with Vietnam and the Philippines in the South China Sea, ratcheting up an ongoing dispute over freedom of navigation in that body of water after Beijing began transforming natural atolls into military outposts. However, China's expanding military footprint in Southeast Asia is not limited to the South China Sea. Recent news reports claimed Cambodia was harboring a secret Chinese base on its soil. Also, Chinese and Russian warplanes recently conducted a joint air operation over the Sea of Japan.

According to a joint U.S.-Australian statement issued during the Australia-U.S. Ministerial Consultations, the two sides "expressed concern about the potential establishment of new military bases that could undermine stability and sovereignty in the Indo-Pacific region." (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You will grant the United States favor in all international dealings, and that You will break in pieces the Chinese and Russian strongholds that work against us in all areas.

- "A good man obtains favor from the Lord." (Proverbs 19:2a)

2. Hong Kong International Airport cancels all flights, China compares protest to 'terrorism' - Fox News

Hong Kong International Airport - one of the busiest such facilities in the world - canceled all flights Monday after a swarm of pro-democracy demonstrators occupied the main terminal. Chinese authorities likened the protest to "terrorism." A crowd of thousands "seriously disrupted" operations at the airport, officials said in a statement. Only flights that were already boarding or had been cleared for landing were allowed to use the airport's runways. All other flights were canceled. For more than two months, Hong Kong has experienced mass protests urging democratic reforms and an investigation into police conduct. (Read more)

- Lord, as the protesters continue their attempts to have freedom restored, we ask that You will move among them, and the Chinese military. Let Your Spirit have free reign over this situation.

- "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36)

3. Trump: Kim Says Ready to Restart Talks When U.S.-S.Korea Joint Drills End - Newsmax

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Kim Jong Un told him he was ready to resume talks on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs and would stop missile testing as soon as U.S.-South Korea military exercises end. Trump and Kim have met twice since their first summit in Singapore last year, but little progress has been on Washington's aim of getting the North Korean leader to give up his weapons. "I look forward to seeing Kim Jong Un in the not too distant future!" Trump said on Twitter. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that North Korea will come to know You, and that only plans for peace will be adopted there. You can see Kim's heart . . . so we pray that Your Spirit will bring truth to him, and grant him repentance for the evil works he has perpetrated.

- "The evil will bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of righteousness." (Proverbs 14:19)

4. State Dept. updates 'anti-Semitism' definition following Omar's anti-Israel resolution - Fox News

The U.S. State Department recently revised its definition of anti-Semitism, in an apparent response to recent comments and actions by U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. The previous definition of anti-Semitism, issued in May, listed 10 examples. The revised definition now lists 11 examples, adding that anti-Semitism now includes "Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis." The leader of a U.S.-based pro-Israel organization praised the move last week. Kudos to @SecPompeo and Special Envoy Elan Carr," Adam Milstein, a philanthropist and co-founder of the Adam and Gila Milstein Foundation, wrote on Twitter. "It's more clear now, the BDS Movement is disgustingly Antisemitic." (Read more)

- Lord, we continue to ask that You remove this woman from Congress. She hates Your people and her remarks reflect it.

- "Blessed is he who blesses you, and curses is he who curses you." (Numbers 24:9b)

5. Trump administration boosts ability to deny green cards to immigrants using welfare programs - Fox News

The Trump administration on Monday issued a long-awaited rule strengthening the ability of federal officials to deny green cards to immigrants deemed likely to rely on government aid.

Officials described the so-called "public charge" rule as a way to ensure those granted permanent residency are self-sufficient -- and protect taxpayers in the process. "The principle driving it is an old American value, and that's self-sufficiency," U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli told Fox News in an interview. "It's a core principle -- the American Dream itself -- and it's one of the things that distinguishes us, and it's central to the legal history in the U.S. back into the 1800s."

"It will also have the long-term benefit of protecting taxpayers by ensuring people who are immigrating to this country don't become public burdens, that they can stand on their own two feet, as immigrants in years past have done," he said. "It's not only a recipe for their success, but for America's success growing out of our immigration system." (Read more)

- Lord we ask that this new rule be the way to stop the massive problems with immigration, but that it will preserve those who come here legally with needed skills.

- "The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just." (Psalm 37:30)

6. Donald Trump's no racist, as past acts and presidential record prove - The Hill

Donald Trump is no racist. I have known him since 1973 and have never seen any indication or any form of racism. In fact, quite the contrary.

When I was Manhattan Borough president and president of the New York City Council, I asked him numerous times to help black or Hispanic groups, and he always came through, many times without publicity. When a hurricane ravished Puerto Rico in the mid 1980s, I asked many big companies to give various forms of assistance - but the problem was how to get all of this aid down to Puerto Rico. I called Donald Trump, and he provided us with a 727 jet to take all of the donated material down to the island, and he didn't ask for any publicity for that generous act.

My friend, Rev. Floyd Flake, the minister of the largest black church in Queens, asked for some help for his senior center. Again, I called Donald Trump and he wrote a big check.

When President Trump recently attacked Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), he was not doing so because Rep. Cummings is black but because the president is a counter-puncher. And he is right that Cummings has been a congressman for 22 years and that Baltimore, part of which is in his congressional district, is a mess. The city has gotten worse during his tenure: more poverty, more drugs and more crime. (Read more)

- Lord, we bind the name calling and remarks against this President, and bind his mind to Your mind. We ask that the leaders of Baltimore come to see reality and not blindly continue their course of action.

- "All the horns of the wicked I will also cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted." (Psalm 75:10)

7. 'We're all in the closet': Trump's Hamptons supporters go underground - NY Post

President Trump's Hamptons supporters have gone underground. While Trump attended two big-money fundraisers for the Republican Party and his 2020 re-election campaign at mansions in Southampton and Bridgehampton on Friday, many of his East End supporters are eschewing the spotlight - especially after last week's calls for boycotts of billionaire Stephen Ross' gyms because he hosted the president.

"We are all in the closet," said a boutique owner in Southampton who fears reprisals from his customers - most of them moneyed Democrats - if he speaks openly about his allegiance to Trump. "It's like you have this disease and people want to run away from you."

A builder based in Westhampton worried that his customers would boycott his services if he reveals his support of the president. "People have really strong opinions here and if you go around wearing a MAGA hat, you really need to fear physical violence," he said, adding the anti-Trump aggression comes mostly from summer residents. (Read more)

- Lord we pray for Your protection for all who have given funds or supported the Trump campaign. Hide them, Lord from those who would harm them. We pray for a mighty move of the Spirit over the nation, and especially over "moneyed Democrats." Let repentance flow from sea to sea.

- "But You, O Lord, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision." (Psalm 59:8)

8. Federal Judge Rules That School's Transgender Bathroom Ban Is Discriminatory - Western Journal

A federal judge in Virginia on Friday rejected a school's policy regarding transgender students and bathroom use in a ruling celebrated as a victory for transgender students seeking access to the bathrooms of their choosing. "There is no question that the board's policy discriminates against transgender students on the basis of their gender nonconformity," U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen of Norfolk wrote in her decision, Fox News reported. "Under the policy, all students except for transgender students may use restrooms corresponding with their gender identity," she wrote. "Transgender students are singled out, subjected to discriminatory treatment and excluded from spaces where similarly situated students are permitted to go." (Read more)

- Father, we continue to ask that You reverse the damage that has been done to children by this agenda. We pray for godly judges to be placed in our courts, that gates of righteousness would be established. We lift up U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen before Your Throne of Grace, asking for her salvation. May she come to know You as her Savior and her Lord, ruling in the fear of God and according to Your law and Word. In Your Name we offer this prayer, amen.

- "Male and female He created them." (Genesis 5:2)

- "Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but those who heed it resist them." (Proverbs 28:4)

9. Christian Civic League Mobilizes To Block Maine Laws Allowing Doctor-Assisted Suicide, Taxpayer-Funded Abortion - Townhall

The Portland Herald Press reports that pro-life activists are mobilizing in an effort to collect 63,067 valid signatures of Maine in order to prevent two controversial laws which legalize doctor-assisted suicide as well as require private insurers and taxpayer-funded Medicaid to pay for abortions from taking effect in September.

Carroll Conley, executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, told the paper that for the past two weeks the group has been working with Catholic and evangelical leaders around the state in order to obtain the signatures before and after masses and services.

According to the paper, "the Christian Civic League has petition coordinators in most of Maine's 16 counties and appears to be running one of the best-organized of the 12 petition drives currently underway."

Pro-life opponents of the bill missed a deadline to force a referendum this November on the two laws but could stop them from going into place if the aforementioned signatures are obtained by September 18. Then, "the veto questions would appear on the ballot during the next statewide election, which because of a new primary law passed this year will be on March 3." (Read more)

- Father, we ask that You would help this group accomplish Your will in the state of Maine.

- "That you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2b)

10. Kamala Harris willing to send cops to people's homes to confiscate banned firearms - Washington Examiner

California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris gave details about her gun control proposals in the wake of the deadly El Paso, Texas shooting after she addressed union members at the AFSCME forum at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Saturday.

When asked by the Washington Examiner if her plan would include legal gun owner databases or gun confiscation via law enforcement visits to residents who own banned firearms, she replied, "I'm actually prepared to take executive action to put in place rules that improve this situation."

She continued, "I also have as part of my background and experience working on this issue, when I was attorney general [of California], and we put resources into allowing law enforcement to actually knock on the doors of people who were on two lists - a list where they had been found by a court to be a danger to themselves and others. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that every plan against Your ways and our Constitution in Kamala Harris' playbook will be defeated.

- "All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits." (Proverbs 16:2)

Three stories of reflection

There is so much news recently, it is difficult to keep on top of it all-if, indeed, one even wants to keep up with it. Today's Daily Jot will try to run down some of the stories we are watching and why they are important. First and foremost, Universal Studios has announced it is suspending the release of its film, "The Hunt," depicting elite liberals gathering together at a five-star resort to embark on a "deeply rewarding" hunt for sport to kill 12 "Make America Great Again" humans known as "deplorables." In a statement, Universal said, "we understand that now is not the right time to release this film all agree the film could wait." This just means that Universal may just release "The Hunt" sometime in the future.
President Donald Trump summed up in a tweet why this film is so important to Americans: "The movie coming is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!" This movie is a continuation of what has been going on in this country, and it is getting worse by the hour. A page out of Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals," advises Marxist activists to accuse their opponents of what they themselves do, and make it very personal. This toxic movement among leftists and the media is an attempt to label anyone remotely associated with supporting conservatism and patriotism as the most vile of human beings.
Another story we are watching is the alleged suicide of accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Many powerful people have been named by victims who accused Epstein of running a sex trafficking ring of underaged girls servicing the rich and famous. Former Senator Robert Mitchell (D-ME), former Governor and presidential hopeful Bill Richardson (D-NM), and model Heidi Klum are among them. Investigative reporter Corey Lynn has developed a chart of Epstein's sordid network and how people are connected. Making the list are former president and first lady Bill and Hillary Clinton, the immediate past president, former attorney general Eric Holder, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), the Clinton Global Initiative and more. This story is important because it could unveil an enormous sex trafficking network by prominent politicians.
A third story worth watching is that of former vice president Joe Biden (D-DE). Biden has said some remarkable things lately: "poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids."He also said, "We choose truth over facts." He said as Vice President he met with students after the Parkland, FL high school shooting, but he had resigned the previous year. Biden also confused the locations of the most recent mass shootings, saying they were in Houston and Michigan. These are just the past week's batch of Biden gaffes. It is important to demonstrate the double standard of the media, and the mental condition of the man who would be president. These stories reflect where we are as a nation. Proverbs 28:4 says "They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them." We must contend for what is right.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

Pray for Hong Kong and China!

International Prayer Alert:

Pray for Hong Kong and China!

"Airport operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted as a result of the public assembly at the airport today," the airport authority says.

"The increasingly violent protests since June have plunged the Asian financial hub into its most serious crisis in decades."

"Scores of protesters were arrested over the weekend across the city, with a reported 600 being detained since the unrest began." (CNBC) Read more here.

These are some of the day's headlines from Hong Kong where protests have gone on for many weeks now and are badly disrupting the international airport there, one of the busiest in the world. Some of the Christians are on one side rooting for the government to restore law and order, and others are on the side of those protesting, especially the youth, who are very concerned about the future of Hong Kong and the potential loss of freedom and opportunity to more stringent control of the Chinese communist party, which controls the rest of the country. Here is what a local friend writes: "The situation in Hong Kong is really tense and, at times, going from bad to worse with only light reprieves in between. The market is starting to hurt badly, which will start to affect the livelihoods of many people here, only exacerbating the situation. In the natural, the next few months are looking like the fall of night. In the spirit, we abide in Him and rest in his goodness. There is still abundant hope for our city."

He earlier sent a short article that shares some of the voices of the youth in HK and requests: "As you pray, may you listen to the hearts of those protesting/fighting. (1.) afraid of post-2048 one country, one system (with restrictions on personal freedoms and justice) and (2.) no hope for a house. [Read more here]

Everyone now is watching for the Chinese government and military's response. We all need to pray that there would not be another Tiananmen when a brutal crackdown against students gathered in a similar protest for freedom resulted in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, in Beijing. A Chinese official there said: "Radical Hong Kong protesters have repeatedly used extremely dangerous tools to attack police officers. The first signs of terrorism are starting to appear." [Go here]
> > > A couple weeks ago, when a few IPC leaders and I were there for a gathering focused on NE Asia and then a major conference with about 10,000 Chinese taking part, I felt that the Lord was stirring me strongly with a word about using His authority in prayer to affect the outcome of this increasingly intense situation. The essence was that through all this current turbulence He is going to change history positively for both China and Hong Kong because He very much loves the Chinese people (Why else would He have created so many of them?!). The verses He stirred me with are Daniel 7:27, Jeremiah 1:7-10 (given to a youth) and Luke 10:18-21 (also with the emphasis on the young). All these passages are about the sovereignty and authority He wants to give His people over the nations, exercised through united, authoritative prayer.
Prayer leading to the right kind of political protest and action is what is called for. Violent protest is never acceptable and is always destructive. Any violence needs to be the Lord Almighty Himself taking down the spiritual principalities and powers of the evil one that want to bring bondage and oppression to both Hong Kong and China. He is the mighty Deliverer and History Transformer! Colleagues and I have repeatedly seen God change history as His people do their part as intercessors in the midst of the chaotic political situations they face. Derek Prince's book, Shaping History through Prayer and Fasting is a classic one on this theme if you want to look into this subject further.

Let's therefore pray with real expectation and confidence, trusting that the Lord is working in this very challenging situation and will bring about ultimate good for the Chinese people that He loves so much, as we also pray with the authority He has entrusted to us:

1 Pray for the protests to become calm and peaceful and that the Chinese central government and army will have restraint, letting the Hong Kong officials and police handle the current disturbances.

2 Pray for the youth and others who are caught up in the fear of losing their freedoms and future prosperity, that they will find hope and confidence through an encounter with Jesus Christ., the true and only deliverer and transformer of humankind.

3 Pray that the churches and Christians of Hong Kong will come together in unity and love in spite of their political differences to pray with God's heart and in the power of the Holy Spirit to effect change in favor of His Kingdom there.

The Good News Corner
Universal Cancels Release of Violent Movie 'The Hunt' Saying 'Now is Not the Right Time'
[CBN News] Universal Pictures has canceled the release of the controversial and violent movie 'The Hunt', simply saying that 'now is not the right time.'

"While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for 'The Hunt,' after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film," a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement. "We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."

Following a series of mass shootings, the decision to cancel the release was made by Universal and 'The Hunt' filmmakers, Variety reports.

At first, the film sounds like a modern movie rehash of the Richard Connell's famous short story 'The Most Dangerous Game,' in which a big-game hunter falls off of his yacht and swims to an abandoned island, and becomes the game when he's hunted by a Russian aristocrat.

But in the controversial new NBC Universal motion picture 'The Hunt,' rich vacationers pay to hunt "deplorables" for sport. The violent, R-rated film is being slammed online and in the media well before its scheduled Sept. 27 release.
