Jews Around the World Observe Yom Kippur

1. Thousands Attend Inspiring Pre-Yom Kippur Prayers at Western Wall - United with Israel

Thousands of Israelis of diverse backgrounds converged at the Kotel to recite the late-night prayers for Divine forgiveness ahead of Yom Kippur.

The sound of the shofar was loud and strong. Every few moments a man dressed in white, wearing a Breslov kippah, blew into the ram's horn as people filed through the entrances of the Western Wall.

In the days ahead of Rosh Hashana and during the period between the High Holy Days, Selichot - communal prayers for divine forgiveness - are recited daily. The catch: The prayers begin at midnight, their words and laments carrying through until 2 a.m.

Despite the late hour, thousands upon thousands of people from all over Israel flocked to the Western Wall to take part in this phenomenon. (Read more)

4. Why Yom Kippur is the Happiest Day of the Year - United with Israel

As the Talmud says, "There were never happier days for the Jews than the 15th of Av and Yom Kippur." What is it about Yom Kippur that makes it such a happy day?

There are a number of interpretations as to why Yom Kippur is deemed to be one of the happiest days of the year. My preferred explanation is that Yom Kippur is such a happy day because it is the day God forgives all our sins! Imagine the judge (or king, back in the day) pardoning you and letting you walk, notwithstanding all the crimes you've committed! You'd certainly be happy!

The reason why Yom Kippur was chosen as the day God forgives all our sins is because Yom Kippur is the anniversary of the day God forgave the Jewish people for having made and worshipped a golden calf. Since it was on that day that God forgave the Jewish people for what was ostensibly the worst sin that a person could commit (idolatry!), God decided that he would forgive all sins on that day every year.

Of course, Yom Kippur only atones for sins committed against God, but for sins committed against our fellow man, we must approach the person we have wronged and ask forgiveness. (Read more)

5. Yom Kippur: The Day of Atonement - Eric Teitelman, House of David Ministries

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. It is a solemn day to afflict our souls, but it is also a joyful day in knowing that God will forgive our sins. It commemorates the day when God forgave the Jewish people for the sin of the Golden Calf.

On this day-and only this day-the high priest of Israel would enter the holy of holies with the blood of an unblemished lamb and would make atonement for the whole nation. The priest would spend the prior week in seclusion, and the night before the great day would stay up all night in prayer and study of Torah. It is interesting to see how Yeshua also stayed awake in prayer the night before He was crucified. (Read more)

1. Hours after Syria strike, Netanyahu says Israel enforcing 'red lines'- Times of Israel

Hours after an alleged Israeli airstrike on the Damascus airport in Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed the country's policy of employing military action to prevent weapons transfers to the enemies that pose an immediate threat.

The overnight strike reportedly targeted an Iranian plane delivering weapons for pro-regime forces and Revolutionary Guards units fighting in Syria's civil war. "Israel is constantly working to prevent our enemies from arming themselves with advanced weaponry," Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting at his office in Jerusalem. "Our red lines are as sharp as ever and our determination to enforce them is stronger than ever."

2. Netanyahu: We Will Not Repeat the Mistakes of 1973 - Jerusalem Online

On the eve of the 45th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet on Sunday that Israel will never repeat the mistake it made in 1973.

"Forty-five years ago, our intelligence misjudged the war intentions of Egypt and Syria," Netanyahu said, referring to intelligence assessments at the time that ruled out an Egyptian and Syrian attack.

"When their intentions were finally clarified beyond any doubt, and when the danger was already near, the political sphere committed a serious mistake by not approving a pre-emptive strike. We will never repeat that mistake," he said.

3. Syria says suspected Israeli strikes hit regime facility - Times of Israel

A Syrian facility linked to the country's chemical weapons program was bombed on Monday night, triggering Syrian air defenses, state media reported.

The state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV reported loud explosions in the coastal Latakia province, saying they were likely from Israeli strikes targeting a state company for technical industries.

The Syrian army said that Israel fired missiles from Lebanese airspace, adding that two people were killed in the attack and the facility was severely damaged, Hadashot reported early Tuesday.

4. Report: Israel, Turkey in talks to restore ambassadors - Israel Hayom

Israel and Turkey are reportedly holding backchannel
negotiations aimed at mending diplomatic fences and restoring their nearly severed diplomatic ties, Israeli media reported on Monday.

Once close regional allies, Israel and Turkey froze
diplomatic ties in 2010, after 10 Turkish nationals were killed in clashes when the Israeli Navy raided a flotilla trying to breach the Gaza Strip blockade.

A reconciliation deal in 2016 stipulated that Israel
would pay $21 million in restitution to the victims' families and the two countries would restore full diplomatic ties.

5. Police locate grenade attached to balloon near Gaza - YNET News

A locked hand grenade connected to a balloon was found Monday afternoon on Route 234, between Kibbutz Re'im and Kibbutz Urim near the Gaza border fence.

The explosive device was located near a peanut field a day before its planned harvest.

The police closed the roads in the area to traffic, and asked the public to follow police instructions and use alternative routes. In addition, the public was asked to exercise extreme caution with regard to such suspicious objects- kites and balloons- which may contain explosives and flammable substances that may endanger public safety.

The police added that "immediate action was taken to isolate the scene and additional forces were called. At this stage, the suspicious object is being handled by a police sapper."

The Daily Brief

1. McConnell forecasts 'very challenging election on the Senate side' - Washington Times

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday called the 2018 Senate map "very challenging," pointing out that the party of the White House almost always loses seats in the president's first midterm elections and ticking off nine races he described as too close to call. Mr. McConnell told reporters in Louisville he's hopeful the GOP can hold onto what is currently a slim 51-49 majority in the Senate.

"You know, we've got a storm headed toward the coast - we know the wind's going to be in our face. We don't know whether it's going to be Category 3, 4, or 5," the Kentucky Republican said. "And the reason I say that is you can't repeal history, and almost every election two years into any new administration the party of the presidency loses seats," he said. "They don't always lose the body, but almost always lose seats, and so we know this is going to be a very challenging election on the Senate side."

Mr. McConnell listed races in Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee, Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, Indiana, West Virginia and Florida as "dead even" or "too close to call. Every one of them like a knife fight in an alley - just a brawl in every one of those places," he said. "I hope when the smoke clears that we'll still have a majority in the Senate." Republicans are defending GOP-held seats in Arizona, Nevada, and Tennessee, while Democrats are playing defense in the other six states Mr. McConnell named.

- Father, You we pray that You will preserve the Republican majority in both the House and Senate. The consequences of losing both are dire for the President and the economic gains that have been made. You are our hiding place in the midst of these issues.

2. Majority Whip Scalise Calls on Dems to Denounce Liberal Violence - CNS news

Democrats need to denounce the violence committed by liberals, House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), himself a victim of a politically-motivated shooting, said Wednesday.

"They really need to be called on to call out this kind of violence," Rep. Scalise said in an interview on Fox News Channel's The Ingraham Angle, adding that he would denounce violence against either party:

"If this was going on, on the Right, you know what would happen, Laura. Every mainstream media outlet would be reporting this, calling on each one of us. They'd have microphones in our faces, 'Will you denounce it?' And, you know what? I'd denounce it. I'd denounce anything that happens on either side, but you don't see that enough from the Left."

Congressman Scalise's remarks came as a response to Sunday's switchblade attack on California Republican Congressional candidate Rudy Peters by an anti-Trump fanatic. Peters appeared alongside Scalise on the show Wednesday to describe the assault.

3. Democrat Election Scam Just Chose Wyoming's Next Republican Governor- American Thinker

Democrats pretending to be Republican for primary day just chose the next Republican candidate for governor in America's reddest state. Wyoming gave President Trump his biggest victory in the entire presidential election, with sixty-seven percent of the vote. Because the state is so red, the Democrats' choice will definitely win the general election and become the next governor of Wyoming.

In Wyoming's recent primary, Republican voters didn't get to choose their own candidate. Democrats in the 21st century don't believe in having two-party elections. In California, they try to shut out Republican voters by having a system where the two highest polling candidates win, even if both are Democrat. In Wyoming, they believe they should get to choose their primary candidate and ours - because they will choose more wisely and more "moderately" than Republican voters. They get away with it, because Wyoming was forced by the federal government under Clinton to allow cross-over voting in the primary.

- Father, let Americans be aware of this ploy by Democrats and research into all candidates for office. We declare that these deceptions will be stopped in the Name of Jesus.

4. Chuck Schumer Calls for Delay of Kavanaugh Confirmation Vote to Investigate 'Rape Attempt' Accusation - Breitbart

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said in a statement on Sunday the Senate must delay Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation vote in the wake of a Washington Post story that detailed the nominee's alleged high-school "rape attempt."

The Post released a story Sunday that revealed Christine Blasey Ford, a California psychology professor, is the person accusing Kavanaugh of a "rape attempt" in the 1980's.

In the piece, Ford described her alleged encounter with Kavanaugh back when they both were still in high school, in which she now accuses Kavanaugh of pinning her to a bed in 1982 and attempting to force himself on her.

In the wake of the accusation, Schumer called for a postponement of the Senate confirmation vote for the "serious and credible allegation" to be "thoroughly investigated."

"For too long, when woman have made serious allegations of abuse, they have been ignored. That cannot happen in this case," Schumer said.

- Lord, we know that this has been a tactic of Democrats for years to bring out women to reveal long ago sins of a nominee before a vote. We pray for a truthful picture of this man so that Your will and not man's will can be accomplished.

5. Death toll rises to at least 11, officials say, as some areas grapple with intense flooding due to Carolinas storm- Washington Post

Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina on Friday, battering the state with a powerful combination of wind and rain. The storm has been linked to several deaths, according to officials. Some areas are grappling with intense flooding, while hundreds in the city of New Bern required rescue in the early hours of the day.

Florence, which was downgraded to a tropical storm Friday afternoon, is expected to keep lashing parts of North and South Carolina into the weekend. Follow the storm's projected path here and read the latest forecasts here.

6. Google engineers and scientists flee the company as EVIL takes over - Natural News

Google has become so unethical that even some of its own employees want nothing to do with it anymore. In the latest example of the company driving away valued workers, senior research scientist Jack Poulson has quit his job in protest of the company's plans to launch a censored version of the Google search engine in China.

Last month, news emerged that Google was secretly working on a Chinese search app code-named Dragonfly for devices running Android. It removes any content that the Chinese government doesn't want its people to see, such as that pertaining to free speech, human rights, democracy, and political dissidents. It will also see queries that have been deemed "sensitive" blacklisted entirely, meaning that no results whatsoever will turn up if people type in certain terms or phrases.

As part of the company's research and machine intelligence department, Poulson was tasked with improving their search systems' accuracy. He raised his concerns with his managers but ultimately decided that he couldn't work for them any more in good conscience. He resigned at the end of last month, and he told The Intercept that at least four others have done the same.

- Lord, this program could endanger Your people if it indeed also hooks to people's phone numbers. We ask for a move of Your Spirit to turn their plans around and make them a force for good.

7. 81 Percent of Family TV Comedies Show Kids Being Exposed to Sexual Dialogue: Report - Christian Post

Over 80 percent of prime-time network family comedy television shows have scenes in which adult characters use sexually explicit dialogue in front of children, a conservative media watchdog has warned.

In a new report released Monday, the Parents Television Council has documented the widespread use of sexually charged language in television shows across multiple networks that the networks themselves are deeming to be family-friendly.

"What we are seeing is the frog in the boiling water, where as the temperature goes up, the frog doesn't realize how hot it has gotten," Winter told The Christian Post in an interview. "We have certainly seen over the last several years an increase in sexualizing content, especially for young girls."

Shows surveyed in the report include: "The Mick," "A.P. Bio," "Last Man Standing," "Dr. Ken," "American Housewife," "The Middle," "The Real O'Neals," "Family Guy," "Black-ish," "Jane the Virgin," "The Goldbergs," "Modern Family," "Man With a Plan," "Kevin Can Wait," "Mom," "Young Sheldon," The Simpsons," "Bob's Burgers," L.A. to Vegas," "Roseanne," "Fresh Off the Boat," "Speechless," "This is Us," "Champions" and Son of Zorn."

"ALL of the 'family comedies' aired on CBS, NBC, and Fox contained instances of sexual dialogue by adults in the presence of children, and 80 percent of ABC's 'family comedies' did," the report states. "However, ABC had the most individual instances of such content. This is largely due to the fact that ABC's schedule contains many more family-themed comedies than other networks. The network with the second most instances was Fox. NBC was a close third, with nearly all its instances from the Spring 2018 series 'A.P. Bio.'"

- Father, this horrific situation is extremely out of control. We ask that You move over the television industry to change hearts and reveal Your truth. We pray to delete the effects of these shows on our children.

8. Study: More Than Half of Trans Male Teens Attempt Suicide - The Advocate

A new study from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows an alarmingly high rate of suicide attempts among transgender teens, particularly trans boys.

Nearly 14 percent of all adolescents in the study, "Transgender Adolescent Suicide Behavior," based on data from "Profiles of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors" survey from the Search Institute, reported they had attempted suicide. But 51 percent of transgender males reported at least one attempt, the highest percentage of any gender identity group. The second highest was among nonbinary teens, nearly 42 percent.

9. Christian Blogger Under Police Watch After Receiving Death Threats for Pro-Life Tweet - Christian Headlines

Denise McAllister, Fox News guest and contributor to news site PJ Media, says she and her family have received death threats after she tweeted a pro-life statement.

McAllister says she has been receiving rape and murder threats after she tweeted that "the root of abortion hysteria is women's unhinged desire for irresponsible sex. Sex is their god. Abortion is their sacrament. It's abhorrent as women have flung themselves from the heights of being the world's civilized force to the muck and mire of dehumanizing depravity."

She says people began to send her threats to her private inbox.

"They are threats outside of Twitter, stating they know where I live," McAllister told JP Media. "Threats of rape and strangling."

"My children are very frightened," she added.

This week, she told her followers she would be taking a break from social media.

"Due to threats against my life, my family is asking that I stay off social media until the situation is resolved," she said. "I don't want to, but I need to respect their wishes at this time. I hope to return soon. Keep up the good fight, my friends."

McAllister also added that she is working with police and her home is under police surveillance.

- Father, as we go deeper and deeper into this battle, satan's minions will do anything to destroy the opposition. We ask for protection for Denise and all Christians who are speaking the truth on social media.

-"truth shall be your shield and buckler." (Psalm 91:4)

10. Group: Officials destroying crosses, burning bibles in China- Associated Press

China's government is ratcheting up a crackdown on Christian congregations in Beijing and several provinces, destroying crosses, burning bibles, shutting churches and ordering followers to sign papers renouncing their faith, according to pastors and a group that monitors religion in China.

The campaign corresponds with a drive to "Sinicize" religion by demanding loyalty to the officially atheist Communist Party and eliminating any challenge to its power over people's lives.

A rapture ready nation

Monday, September 17, 2018

Psalm 33:10-12 says, "God brings nothing to the plans of nations, he foils the plans of the peoples. But the counsel of God stands forever, his heart's plans are for all generations. How blessed is the nation whose God is God, the people he chose as his heritage!" Recent headlines are showing just how far this world has fallen, and continues to fall away from the precepts of God. A lot of folks say that if the rapture occurred, America would be like Sodom and Gomorrah because all the Christians would be gone. My question is, "What does America look like now?" Point is, the moral high ground has been taken by the immoral, and it happened without any rapture. Oh, it could be worse, but, really, who are we fooling?

What we need in this country is an honest look at why things are as they are and how we can impact them by a return to the ancient paths of our Lord; a revival of understanding of, and relationship with, the one true God, and his son Jesus the Messiah. This revival is not the showy mega church version of revival. It is a revival of the heart--a return to the gospel and the scriptures in their traditional form and meaning. If we became a nation of Christians so passionate in our relationship with God, we would be described like the apostles and disciples in Acts 17:6 "These who have turned the world upside down are come here also." We would be as Jesus described in the Sermon on the Mount, "salt of the earth."

I've heard many say, "Who cares, we'll be out of here and with the Lord when we are raptured?" My answer is that we should be better than that. I believe the Lord expects better than that. The Great Commission says that we are to make disciples. Romans 12:1 says that we are to "present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:21 says, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." Throughout the scriptures are calls to action for those who believe. We are not supposed to be a royal priesthood sitting around a rapture waiting room, but rather showing "forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

First and foremost, we need to get right with and have a close personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ. In that relationship we will be inspired to be more than just members of an exclusive club waiting for the blessed hope. We will be a living testimony to the one true God, and by our example and actions, we will make disciples. These disciples will organically begin to change the nation from its current state to one whose God is truly the one true God. This is far different than sitting in a church pew listening to self-indulgent, extra biblical, out of context concepts disguised as Christianity. Let us be an Acts 5:29 people where we "obey God rather than men," and in our obedience present a true rapture ready nation whose God is God upon the Lord's return!

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING

He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
(Exodus 33:14)

Lyrics
Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it mount of God's redeeming love.
Here I find my greatest treasure; hither by thy help I've come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood.
Oh, to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee: prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above.

New Mexico observatory closed for 'security issue' to reopen

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - An observatory in the mountains of southern New Mexico that had been closed since early September because of an undisclosed security concern is now scheduled to reopen on Monday, officials managing the facility said.

The Sunspot Solar Observatory no longer faces a security threat to staff, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy said in a statement Sunday. The facility closed on Sept. 6.

The association has hired a temporary security team to patrol the observatory when it reopens. "Given the significant amount of publicity the temporary closure has generated, and the consequent expectation of an unusual number of visitors to the site, we are temporarily engaging a security service while the facility returns to a normal working environment," the association said.
Authorities have not revealed the nature of the security threat the observatory faced. The FBI has referred all questions to the association.

"We recognize that the lack of communications while the facility was vacated was concerning and frustrating for some. However, our desire to provide additional information had to be balanced against the risk that, if spread at the time, the news would alert the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation. That was a risk we could not take," the association said. (Read more)
