6. Israel on Target - Bridge Connector Ministries

To read this week's report, highlighting three key issues in Israel at this time, go here.

The Daily Brief

1. The other border crisis: Exhausted agents hanging on by a thread - Washington Examiner

"If there's going to be a front page headline about what's happening on the border as it pertains to Border Patrol agents, it should be, 'Exhausted,'" said Wesley Farris, second vice president for the El Paso chapter. "That's what we are - exhausted - in every avenue. Exhausted mentally. Exhausted physically," Farris said.

"Some of the things that they have to see and deal with are horrible," said the union's Yuma chapter president, Mario Campos. Two union reps said agents are drinking more. Other agents who are former military are having new issues with PTSD as a result of seeing thousands of children who have come through without parents suffer emotionally.

The 14,750 rank-and-file U.S. Border Patrol agents are forbidden from speaking with the media. They make up around 75% of the 19,500 agents on payroll as of late June, according to the agency's union, the National Border Patrol Council. Several agents, all union representatives themselves, said their fellow agents may not be making a scene, but many are not OK.

- Father God, we remember these men and women of the Border Patrol and ask You to strengthen them in spirit, mind, and body, each and every day as they serve our nation.

- -My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. (Psalm 119:28)

2. British ambassador to US resigns after being blasted by Trump amid furor over leaked cables - Washington Examiner

Sir Kim Darroch has resigned from his post as the United Kingdom's ambassador to the United States, according to a Fox News report. The ambassador has been under fire this week after several years worth of leaked messages from Darroch showed disparaging and insulting remarks about President Trump. Trump subsequently disinvited him from a Monday state dinner at the White House with the emir of Qatar.

Considered to be one the U.K.'s most senior diplomats, Darroch referred to the president with several unflattering terms in cables dating back to 2017, including "inept" and "incompetent." Among many incendiary remarks, Darroch said, "For a man who has risen to the highest office on the planet, President Trump radiates insecurity."

On Tuesday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross abruptly canceled a long-planned meeting with Britain's Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox because he knew that Darroch would be in attendance.

- Father, we pray the new ambassador from Britain will show respect for our nation and President Trump in public and in private.

-The one who guards a fig tree will eat its fruit, and whoever protects their master will be honored. (Proverbs 27:18)

3. 785 days and waiting: Trump ambassadors face unprecedented delays at hands of Senate Democrats - Washington Examiner

President Trump is more than half-done with his first term, but in many countries, his foreign policy remains on the runway as Democrats force massive delays on ambassador confirmation votes. Now, Trump allies backed by veteran diplomats are urging a fight as key posts go unfilled.

Andy Surabian, a Republican strategist and former Trump White House official, said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should heighten the stakes. "McConnell should today announce he is canceling August recess unless Democrats stop blocking ambassador nominees. Watch how quickly Democrats will fold," Surabian said. "It's two years into the [Trump] presidency. It's time for Republicans in the Senate to play hardball."

Although Democrats hold a minority of Senate seats, arcane rules allow them to force time-consuming individual votes on ambassadors, meaning McConnell, the Kentucky Republican, is forced to prioritize the ones he considers most important.

"Ambassadors play an essential role in executing our foreign policy," Kurtzer said. "When the Senate delays confirmations, it hampers the work of our embassies and weakens our ability to achieve our policy goals."

- Father God, we pray Majority Leader McConnell will have the wisdom needed to place these important ambassadors into position. We also pray for our entire State Department to come into line with President Trump and his foreign policy objectives.

- A wicked messenger falls into hardship, but a faithful ambassador brings healing. (Proverbs 13:17)

4. Pelosi: Debt limit vote possible before August recess - RollCall

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Tuesday didn't rule out voting on a debt limit increase before the August recess, though she indicated the need to raise the discretionary spending caps for fiscal 2020 is still an integral part of the discussions. "Let's see how the conversations go," she said.

Estimates from the Treasury Department and the Congressional Budget Office have put the deadline for raising the debt limit, required for the U.S. to continue to be able to pay for all government services and benefits, sometime in the latter half of 2019, likely by early October.

There could be another partial government shutdown if lawmakers and the White House can't agree on appropriations levels. House Democrats' view has been that their best leverage to extract higher non-defense spending is to merge the two deadlines so the administration has to play ball on appropriations in order to get the timely debt limit ceiling increase they want.

- Father, we know our national debt is immoral and displeasing to You. Give our leaders wisdom and courage to reduce spending, fraud and abuse throughout our federal system. Deliver us!

- Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. (Romans 13:8)

5. US Approves $2.2 Billion Sale of Tanks, Missiles to Taiwan - FreeBeacon

The Trump administration is selling $2.2 billion worth of tanks and missiles to Taiwan but has delayed exports of new F-16s over budget shortfalls in Taipei. The main piece of the latest arms package announced Monday is the sale of 108 M1A2 Abrams frontline tanks and associated equipment, including tank rounds, machine guns, and tank-related gear. In addition to the tanks, the Pentagon notified Congress of the sale of 250 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Taiwan.

"The proposed sale will help improve the security of the recipient and assist in maintaining political stability, military balance, and economic progress in the region," said Army Lt. Gen. Charles Hooper in a transmittal notice to Congress. Hooper is director of the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency that is in charge of arms sales.

Taiwan is a democratic, self-governing island nation formed by Chinese nationalists during a civil war in the late 1940s. The island remains the main target of a promised takeover by the Communist-ruled mainland China government that has vowed to use force if necessary to regain control. The United States is obligated to defend Taiwan from mainland attack and provide defensive weapons under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act.

- Father God, we pray for a reduction in tensions between China and Taiwan and for these defensive weapons to provide an effective deterrent from aggression.

- A wise man is strong, yes, a man of knowledge increases strength (Proverbs 24:5)

6. Largest U.S. Teachers' Union Endorses Abortion - FreeBeacon

The National Education Association approved a new "business item" expressing support for abortion access during its annual conference in Houston. "[T]he NEA will include an assertion of our defense of a person's right to control their own body, especially for women, youth, and sexually marginalized people," the resolution states. "The NEA vigorously opposes all attacks on the right to choose and stands on the fundamental right to abortion under Roe v. Wade."

The NEA is the largest teachers' union in the U.S. with more than 3 million members. It collected nearly $400 million from American educators in 2018, according to federal labor filings. The union is also one of the most politically active in the country, spending $70 million on politics and lobbying in 2017 and 2018. Nearly all of the union's political action committee spending went to Democrats during the midterm cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Pro-life groups and teachers have expressed their outrage regarding the NEA's abortion support. Rebecca Friedrichs, founder of For Kids & Country and a 28-year public school teacher, says she and her fellow pro-life educators are not surprised by the NEA's announcement. "NEA's state and national teachers' unions are essentially the political action committee of the Far-Left," she said. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List, is encouraging pro-life teachers and parents to stand up for their beliefs by vocally opposing the NEA's abortion stance.

- Father, we pray the good and decent people who have been forced to join the education unions will speak up and not back down in their support for family friendly and pro-life values until they see the victory You wish to give them.

- The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah. (Psalm 46:11)

7. 'Deeply sad day' after vote in Westminster on abortion and same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland - Christian Today

Peter Lynas, director of the Evangelical Alliance Northern Ireland, said it was a "deeply sad day" for Northern Ireland after the vote in the House of Commons on Tuesday night. The Commons voted 383 to 73 to extend same-sex marriage to the region, and 332 to 99 to give it the same abortion access as the rest of the UK.

Mr Lynas said that the votes "fundamentally undermine devolution" and that Westminster MPs had "no mandate" to change the law in Northern Ireland. "This is a deeply sad day as MPs vote to remove legal protection from the most vulnerable members of society. I understand some will see this as a victory for equality and choice," he said. "But equality must treat both mother and child fairly and choice must recognize both lives in a pregnancy. The changes to Northern Ireland's current abortion laws would effectively remove safeguards on terminations up to 28 weeks.

He added: "On marriage, it is a covenant commitment between a man and a woman. Many will see this as a victory for equality. However, confusing equality with the redefinition of marriage is a mistake. Christian advocacy group CARE was critical that the amendments were passed by MPs who do not represent any Northern Ireland constituencies, and without any consultation with the people of Northern Ireland.

- Father God, the people of Northern Ireland choose Your law over man's law. These dictates come from London against the will of their people. Give them the wisdom to overcome this unrighteousness and injustice.

- But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15b)

8. Mark Zuckerberg Brags: We Didn't Allow Pro-Life Groups to Advertise Before Ireland's Abortion Vote - PJ Media

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained that Facebook is increasingly trying to work with governments to determine what political speech it does and does not allow via what kind of political ads it is willing to approve.

In the particular example Zuckerberg cited, in 2018, American pro-life groups wanted to run advertisements for Facebook users in Ireland. This is because the Irish were about to vote in a referendum on whether abortion should be legalized.

The company contacted the Irish government asking whether this should or should not be allowed. "Their response at the time was, 'we don't currently have a law, so you need to make whatever decision you want to make.'" In other words, Facebook could do as it pleased. There was no legal reason to disallow the ads. But what did Facebook do? You guessed it: "We ended up not allowing the ads."

- Father, we pray for Mark Zuckerberg and ask you to redeem his life and soul. We pray he will desire to have the mind of Christ and turn his life to good.

- Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)

9. Peace might be breaking out in America's longest ever war - CNN

It may feel like the closed-door talks about peace in Afghanistan have been going on almost as long as the Afghan war itself, but now they are actually going somewhere. In short President Trump has seen the war for the intractable mess that it is, and appears to be talking his way out of it, quite fast.

The first public ray of hope came on Monday in Doha when a group of prominent Afghans, including some government officials acting in a personal capacity, managed to sit through a long -- and by all accounts respectful -- two-day meeting with the Taliban.

Although it was unofficial, they managed to agree with the Taliban a roadmap as to how they might get towards a peace deal. And, most importantly. they agreed immediately that soft targets -- the schools, women and children who should not normally be part of a conflict would be off-limits for now.

- Lord Jesus, as the Prince of Peace, we ask You to enter into these negotiations and bring the Afghan people Your Shalom Peace.

- For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you. (Isaiah 54:7)

10. Report: Iranian, American officials secretly met in Iraq to defuse tension - Israel Hayom

Secret meetings between US government officials and Iranian officials took place last week at a hotel in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish region in Iraq, i24NEWS reported Tuesday.

The Iranian delegation was headed by Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. It also included two officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as well as Iraj Masjedi, Iran's special envoy to Iraq.

During the secret talks, American officials stayed at the same hotel in Erbil as Saudi officials who were later relocated away from the negotiation venue. Back in May, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi said he would send delegations to both Washington and Tehran in order to calm tensions between the US and Iran.

11. US stocks close at record highs after the Fed reaffirms a rate cut is coming - Business Insider

The Nasdaq Composite closed at a new all-time high on Wednesday as remarks by the Federal Reserve chief bolstered Wall Street's expectations for lower interest rates at the end of the month.

Fed Chairman Jay Powell signaled in prepared congressional testimony that the central bank would slash interest rates at the end of a two-day policy meeting that ends July 31, sending the S&P 500 briefly above 3,000 for the first time ever. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also hit a fresh intraday high. (Read more)

Prophetic warning to America

While this is the time of year we all celebrate the liberty of America, please also be a student of what is happening to this liberty. We are in the midst of one of the most alarming dangers to our country and our way of life. My ministry partner of 26 years, William Agbeti is issuing a prophetic warning to America. Agbeti writes: "Based on my extensive exposure to third-world coups d'etat, as well as close study of recent political developments in the US, I believe I can reliably construct a predictive simulation of an imminent COUP d'etat in the US! Unlike bloody coups that engulfed third-world countries in the 1900s and recent times, coups have transformed into bloodless, disruptive tools in changing legally elected governments."

Agbeti continued: "Unbelievably, this new modus operandi in coup making has become appealing to even an established democracy like the US. Conceptualization of coups is always rooted in the same kind of ideology - notably socialism, communism, one world government, one economic order, one state apparatus, one religion or perceived system of peace and what have you. It's therefore rare to find strong adherents of capitalism or proponents of true democracy engaging coups to advance their political and or socio-economic beliefs. To wit, anytime you smell a coup anywhere, chances are that some kind of "One World" order ideology is at work. This, indisputably, makes the democrats in the US an offshoot of some kind of socialist government!
"Operatives of, say a socialist government in a third-world setting ,behave very much like some of us are clearly seeing amongst the democrats in the US. The similarities are obvious--open rejection of election results, organized grassroots resistance, forged alliances with mainstream news media, complex and multifaceted campaign of lies and mind-control techniques, and this is the most dangerous, use of remnants of the previous government still secretly operating within the new government! It's worthy of note that socialist governments that suddenly lose power have well-developed massive grassroots support, safeguarded and powered by blind and wide-spread loyalty of the media. These entities become very desperate and, naturally, lend their support to the shadow government in a bid to go back on life support!
"Talking about life-support, what coup planners basically use as baits to lure the teeming masses on board their political wagons are PROMISES, such as free education, family support, universal basic income, fat grants for communities, districts, regions and numerous freebies! These promises are targeted at vulnerable segments of society: students, young adults, struggling families, displaced people, legal and illegal immigrants, unemployed, etc." The Lord said in Ezekiel 22:30, "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it." In America, we are destroying ourselves by our lack of stewardship to godliness and liberty. Let us not be found lacking to the point of the last sentence in this verse: "But I found none." Stand, and having done all, Stand.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

The Daily Jot Staff

AOC Gets Sued

Now AOC gets sued for blocking people on Twitter

On Tuesday, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled President Trump is not allowed to block people on his Twitter account, because the social-media page was used for "official purposes" and such a move would violate the First Amendment.

Within hours, one of the far-left newcomers to Congress who has done the same thing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., also was sued.

The Associated Press reported the decision in Trump's case "is likely to reverberate throughout politics after the Manhattan court warned that any elected official using a social-media account 'for all manner of official purposes' and then excluding critics violates free speech."

The decision isn't the first on the issue. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this year found a Virginia political violated the First Amendment by blocking a constituent from a Facebook page.

But the new ruling got a lot more attention because it involves the president.

Now Ocasio-Cortez, the confrontational congresswoman and former bartender known for her far-left views, is facing her own legal action.

Fox News reported it was a former Democratic New York assemblyman who sued her just hours after Tuesday's court ruling was announced.

Dov Hikind filed the action for her decision to block users on Twitter based on their personal viewpoints. "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has blocked me on Twitter yesterday apparently because my critique of her tweets and policies have been too stinging," Hikind said in a statement.

Fox News had obtained the information about the case in federal court in the Eastern District of New York.

"Just today the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a ruling that elected officials cannot block individuals from their Twitter accounts, thereby setting a precedent that Ocasio-Cortez must follow," Hikind said.

He charged Ocasio-Cortez was "acting cowardly" and "should be ashamed of her attempts to silence me." He is asking for an injunction against her and a declaration she violated the First Amendment.

- Father, we thank You that "AOC" is not above the law, but must obey these decisions as all citizens must do. We pray that she be humbled to the point of repentance, turn from her wicked, tale-bearing ways, and turn to You for forgiveness of her sins. Help her, O Lord, and deliver her into Your Kingdom we pray, amen.
- "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"

Iranian IRGC Boats Fire on British Oil Tanker

Iranian IRGC boats tried, failed to seize British oil tanker in Persian Gulf, senior US defense official says

Five Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps gunboats tried to seize a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf Wednesday but backed off after a British warship approached, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News.

The British warship was said to have been less than 5 miles behind the tanker but soon intercepted the Iranian boats and threatened to open fire. A manned U.S. reconnaissance aircraft was above as well, the official said, adding that Iranian forces left without opening fire.

Navy Captain Bill Urban, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), said the military was aware of the reported actions. He added, "Threats to international freedom of navigation require an international solution. The world economy depends on the free flow of commerce, and it is incumbent on all nations to protect and preserve this lynchpin of global prosperity."
The British frigate was identified as the HMS Monstrose, according to CNN, which was first to report the encounter.

The incident was the latest in a series of provocations between the Islamic Republic and the West. British forces last week seized an Iranian supertanker that officials believed was operating in violation of European Union sanctions. The British Royal Marines captured the vessel in Gibraltar after believing it was trying to provide crude oil to Syria, an ally of Iran.

(Fox News) Read more here.
- Lord God, we thank You that the Iranians stood down in this latest challenge to control the Persian Gulf. We decree that You, and only You, are the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and that all nations must bow unto Your Holy Name, amen.

- "He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them-- he remains faithful forever." (Psalm 146:6)

British Ambassador Resigns

British ambassador to the U.S. Kim Darroch resigns after Trump criticism

After several days of intense criticism by President Trump, who called the British ambassador to Washington a "pompous fool" and said his administration would no longer work with him, Kim Darroch on Wednesday resigned his post.

Darroch provoked the president's ire when a cache of secret diplomatic cables were leaked to a British tabloid over the weekend. The memos from Darroch described Trump as "insecure" and his administration as "inept" and "dysfunctional."

Prime Minister Theresa May stood by Darroch - and she told Parliament on Wednesday it was "matter of great regret that he has felt it necessary to leave his position."

"Sir Kim has given a lifetime of service to the United Kingdom and we owe him an enormous debt of gratitude," she said in Parliament.

"Good government depends on public servants being able to give full and frank advice," she said, adding, "I hope the House will reflect on the importance of defending our values and principles, particularly when they are under pressure."

In his resignation letter, Darroch wrote, "the current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like." He noted that his posting would have been up at the end of the year, but he had decided to depart now.

Darroch told staff on Tuesday he could not be an effective ambassador if the administration would not deal with him - and the episode did not seem to be passing. (MSNBC) Read more here.

- Father God, the days are evil. We ask for Your comfort and Your peace to rest upon both President Trump and British Ambassador Darroch, now that this episode has come to a close. May all parties involved be healed of their wounds, and may America and Great Britain continue serving as allies in the Free World. In Your name,
- "God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed." (Ecclesiastes 3:17)

Classic Hymns

WILL YOUR ANCHOR HOLD IN THE STORMS OF LIFE?

"An anchor for the soul, firm and secure." (Hebrews 6:19)

Lyrics

1. Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
when the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

[Refrain:]

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour's love!

2 Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,
when the breakers roar and the reef is near?
While the surges rave, and the wild winds blow,
shall the angry waves then your bark o'erflow?

[Refrain]

3 Will your anchor hold in the floods of death,
when the waters cold chill your latest breath?
On the rising tide you can never fail,
while your anchor holds within the veil.

[Refrain]

4 Will your eyes behold through the morning light
the city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore,
when life's storms are past for evermore?

[Refrain]

Archaeologist Says a Stone Pillar in the City of David is Where Abraham Met Melchizedek and Gave Him a Tithe

"If you're going at that time to other places in the world in Egypt or Mesopotamia you can see temples, gold and idols and I don't know pillars. Here it's simple. The stone, animals, animals, sacrifice. The stone is the house of God. No gold and diamonds. Everything is simple. This is what God wants us to be; simple. It's fantastic. For what? For what reason? To connect with God." -Archaeologist Eli Shukron

(Jerusalem, Israel) - [CBN News] An Israeli archaeologist has uncovered the remains of an altar believed to be from around the time when Abraham met the high priest Melchizedek in Jerusalem. (Image: via CBN News) Archaeologist Eli Shukron has spent much of his life looking for Bible history in the City of David. Shukron gave CBN News an exclusive look at what he feels is one of his most important discoveries kept under lock and key that dates back 4000 years-a stone pillar. Shukron says the pillar, found in the City of David, is just like the one described in Genesis 28 when Jacob had a dream in Bethel of a ladder reaching up to Heaven. After the dream, Jacob said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven! Then Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it."
