Focus on Israel

1. Former Intelligence Chief: Gravest Threat Facing Israel is 'First Northern War' - United With Israel

"The gravest threat we face is not the third Lebanon war, but the first northern war - simultaneous conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, which Hamas in the south is likely to join," warned IDF Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amos Yadlin, former head of the IDF's Military Intelligence Directorate.

Speaking while presenting President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday with the 2019 Strategic Assessment from the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) which he currently heads, Yadlin noted that "Israel of 2019 is a strong country, the IDF is extremely powerful and deters our enemies. The challenge is to take this strength and use it to reinforce the correct policy."

The INSS research highlights the major political and diplomatic issues facing Israel in the near future. On the list of leading threats by severity, the INSS's 2019 assessment includes war with all the enemy forces and on all fronts in the north - Iran on the Golan Heights, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Syrian regime - as well as a military conflict in the south with Hamas in Gaza and a deterioration of the situation in Judea and Samaria.

2. Bolsonaro slated for historic Israel visit one week before elections - Israel Hayom

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will arrive in Israel on March 31 for a four-day visit, Israel Hayom has learned, just one week ahead of Israel's general elections on April 9.

In closed talks with Bolsonaro during a historic visit to the South American country in late December, the Brazilian leader reiterated to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his intentions of relocating the Brazilian Embassy to Jerusalem.

It now appears Bolsonaro will officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital during his expected visit.

Bolsonaro and many of his top aides have repeatedly indicated that Brazil would soon relocate its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Since his election victory, however, Bolsonaro has come under pressure from powerful backers in the agricultural sector - who fear the move could harm their halal meat sales in Arab countries - to abandon the embassy relocation idea.

3. Somali Islamist Terror Group Claims Deadly Nairobi Atrocity Was Response to 'Desecration' of Jerusalem by 'Zionist Jews' - Algemeiner

The Somali Islamist terror group that carried out Tuesday's attack on a hotel complex in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi has issued a fresh statement declaring that the atrocity was directed against "Zionist Jews." The assault claimed the lives of 14 people, including US citizen Jason Spindler - a survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001 Al-Qaeda atrocity in New York.

On Tuesday night, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that security forces had regained control of the complex, with all the terrorists "eliminated" in the process.

Wednesday's statement from the Somalia-based Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen (more commonly known as "Al-Shabaab"), an affiliate of Al-Qaeda, stated that it had carried out the Nairobi attack as "a response to the witless remarks of US President Donald Trump and his declaration of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel."

4. 'Israel may need to invade Iran to stop its entrenchment in Syria' - Jerusalem Post

Israel needs to prepare for the possibility that its battle to keep Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria may have to be expanded to Lebanon or to Iran directly.

That is one of the recommendations that appeared in the Institute for National Security Studies Strategic Assessment for Israel 2018-2019, which was released and rolled out by the Tel Aviv-based think tank at a ceremony at the President's Residence on Wednesday.

"Israel maintains a very strong basic deterrent against security challenges that are below the threshold of war," according to the report. "At the same time, most of the fronts facing Israel are very volatile: Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. In all three, despite the existence of mutual deterrence between the sides, there is a potential for escalation toward a broad confrontation and a general war, more than one front at a time."

According to the report, the most serious threat facing Israel in 2019 would be an all-out war in the north - the First Northern War - that would include Iran, Hezbollah and Syria. Such a confrontation would also likely spill over to the south, and Israel would additionally find itself battling terrorist organizations from the Gaza Strip.

5. US Seeks $373M Acquisition of Israel's Iron Dome Anti-Missile Defense System - Jewish Press

The United States Army has sent Congress a 14-page document requesting approval of $373 million towards purchasing a few of Israel's widely acclaimed Iron Dome missile-interception systems.

It has sought to receive by 2020 two Iron Dome batteries with 12 launchers, 240 interception missiles, two battle-management systems and two radar systems to enable U.S. ground forces' protection against artillery, rockets, cruise missiles, mortars and unmanned air vehicles in conflict areas globally, according to Inside Defense.

"Based on an analysis of cost, schedule and performance, the Army [has decided to]: field two interim IFPC batteries of Iron Dome in [fiscal year] 2020," stated the document.

The Daily Brief

1. Four Americans Killed in Islamic State Attack in Syria, Official Says - Bloomberg

A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest attacked international forces patrolling in the northern town of Manbij, according to Islamic State's self-styled Amaq news agency, which is used by the group to claim attacks around the world. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the Syrian civil war through activists on the ground, says the blast killed at least 16 people.

"The president has been fully briefed and we will continue to monitor the ongoing situation in Syria," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement. She referred other questions about the attack to the Defense Department, which said service members were killed by an explosion while on "routine patrol."

Islamic State has lost almost all of the land it once held under its caliphate. The group swept through Iraq and Syria in 2014, conquering large chunks of territory before its major strongholds fell at the end of 2017. The U.S.-backed coalition, Iraqi and Syrian government forces, Syrian rebels, Russian airstrikes and Iranian-allied militias have all targeted the group. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray for the peace of Syria. Lord, deliver them from the scourge of the Islamic State. We also lift up the grieving families of our soldiers and ask You to comfort them.

- Remove your scourge from me; I am overcome by the blow of your hand.
(Psalm 39:10)

2. Trump's shutdown trap? - American Thinker

Has President Trump [maneuvered] Democrats and the Deep State into a trap that will enable a radical downsizing of the federal bureaucracy? In only five more days a threshold will be reached, enabling permanent layoffs of bureaucrats furloughed 30 days or more.

A reduction in force is a thoughtful and systematic elimination of positions. For all practical purposes, a government RIF is the same thing as a layoff. A lot of procedures must be followed, and merit ("performance") is the last consideration, but based on the criteria, employees already furloughed can be laid off once they have been furloughed for 30 days.

If this was the plan all along, it would explain why President Trump goaded Chuck and Nancy in his televised meeting with them last year, boasting that he would claim credit for the shutdown. Such a mass RIF would be the Trump version of Ronald Reagan firing the air traffic controllers when they went on an illegal strike in 1981. That was completely unexpected by his enemies, vehemently criticized, and successful. (Read more)

- Father, we pray President Trump will use this Reduction in Force process to remove each and every unnecessary federal employee.

- Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

3. H.R. 1: Democrats Act to Strip State Powers Over Elections - PJ Media

Democrats in Congress have announced their top legislative priority. They want to centralize power over elections in Washington, D.C. The bill is a 571-page dreamscape of wild wishes and federal mandates on states. The Constitution decentralizes power over American elections and puts states in charge. H.R. 1 would undo that.

It forces states to implement mandatory voter registration. H.R. 1 also mandates that states allow all felons to vote. It forces states to have extended periods of early voting H.R. 1 also undermines the First Amendment by exerting government control over political speech and undoing the Supreme Court's Citizen's United decision. The proposal also undoes another Supreme Court decision. In Husted, H.R. 1 would undo that ruling and prohibit states from effectively cleaning voter rolls.

H.R. 1 mandates same-day voter registration and would obliterate state registration procedures. It limits the ability of states to cooperate to see who is registered in multiple states at the same time. But the biggest prize in H.R. 1 is to restore Justice Department approval powers over state election law changes, known as "preclearance." This preclearance power, struck down by the Supreme Court in Shelby County v. Holder, is the one power that unites them all. Preclearance gave radical bureaucrats at the Justice Department Voting Section the power to micromanage every single state election law behind closed doors. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for revealing this plan and we pray these proposed changes to our elections will not pass through Congress or be made into law.

- You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. (Deuteronomy 25:15)

4. Judge strikes down Trump administration's plan to add a citizenship question to 2020 Census - USA Today

A federal district judge Tuesday struck down the Trump administration's plan to add a question on citizenship to the 2020 Census, ruling that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross exceeded his authority under federal law. Ross announced the addition of the citizenship question last March, but it has been tied up by a half dozen lawsuits. The government has not asked about individuals' citizenship on the Census since 1950. Opponents, including California, New York, the American Civil Liberties Union and immigration rights groups, contend fears of deportation among undocumented immigrants will cause them to be undercounted.

In his 277-page ruling, Judge Furman discounted Ross's contention that he made his decision based on the Justice Department's request. Furman's ruling is sure to be appealed, most likely to the Supreme Court, unless the administration drops the issue. That did not seem likely Tuesday.

"Our government is legally entitled to include a citizenship question on the Census, and people in the United States have a legal obligation to answer," Justice Department spokeswoman Kelly Laco said. "Reinstating the citizenship question ultimately protects the right to vote and helps ensure free and fair elections for all Americans." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the appeal to the Supreme Court will be successful and they will allow the citizenship question on the Census.

- Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago." (Psalm 77:10-11)

5. Ocasio-Cortez set to join Maxine Waters on key financial services committee - Fox News

Self-described socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced on Twitter late Tuesday that she will join California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters on the influential House Financial Services Committee, which oversees Wall Street and the housing industry. Waters, the chair of the financial services committee, has vowed to counteract the Trump administration's 2018 rollback of the Dodd-Frank legislation, which the White House called "disastrous" and overbroad.

California Rep. Katie Porter, Michigan's Rashida Tlaib, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley have also reportedly been tapped for the committee by Democratic House leaders, and a vote finalizing their appointments is expected within days. The roles would afford the rising far-left Democrats a powerful platform to pursue the sweeping reforms they campaigned on, even as some moderate liberals voiced concerns that intra-party clashes would be inevitable.

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, has suggested that the nation's largest banks should be broken up, and she shunned corporate donations during her House run last year. (Read more)

- Lord God, we pray the members of the House Financial Services Committee will only be able to accomplish that which is best for the American people.

- Mockers stir up a city, but the wise turn away anger. (Proverbs 29:8)

6. 'THE SMOKING GUN': Google Manipulated YouTube Search Results for Abortion, Maxine Waters, David Hogg - Breitbart

In sworn testimony, Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Congress last month that his company does not "manually intervene" on any particular search result. Yet an internal discussion thread leaked to Breitbart News reveals Google regularly intervenes in search results on its YouTube video platform - including a recent intervention that pushed pro-life videos out of the top ten search results for "abortion."

According to the source, the software engineer who started the discussion called the manipulation of search results related to abortion a "smoking gun." The software engineer noted that the change had occurred following an inquiry from a left-wing Slate journalist about the prominence of pro-life videos on YouTube, and that pro-life videos were replaced with pro-abortion videos in the top ten results for the search terms following Google's manual intervention.

This suggests Google has followed the lead of Democrat politicians, who have repeatedly pushed tech companies to censor content. The fact that Google manually curates politically contentious search results fits in with a wider pattern of political activity on the part of the tech giant. President Trump has previously warned Google, as well as other Silicon Valley giants, not to engage in censorship or partisan activities. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for the full measure of justice to be poured out upon Google for their bias and malfeasance.

- It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice. (Proverbs 18:5)

7. Rep. Nunes, Other Republicans Push Back on NYT Report - Free Beacon

Congressman Devin Nunes (R, Calif.) is pushing back on a weekend report from the New York Times which said the FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into President Donald Trump shortly after he fired James Comey as the bureau's director to determine if Trump was working as a foreign agent for Russia, perhaps even unwittingly.

"This is yet more evidence that FBI leaders actually had no real evidence against the Trump team," Nunes said in a statement obtained by the Washington Examiner. "Instead, they were simply trying to undermine a president they didn't like and avenge Comey's firing. By relying on the Steele dossier-a fraudulent document funded by Democrats and based on Russia sources-FBI leaders were either complicit or too oblivious to notice they were being used in a disinformation operation by the Democratic Party and Russian operatives."

The Times report published late Friday said in the wake of Comey's firing, "law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president's behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the whole truth will be revealed regarding actions by government officials to undermine President Trump from his candidacy through his administration.

- The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness (Romans 1:18)

8. Former top FBI lawyer James Baker subject of criminal media leak probe, transcript reveals - Fox News

The former top lawyer at the FBI has been under federal investigation for leaking to the media, a letter from House Republicans revealed Tuesday. The letter from GOP Reps. Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows cited the transcript of a congressional interview with former General Counsel James Baker and his lawyer last fall, where the probe conducted by seasoned U.S. Attorney John Durham was confirmed.

"You may or may not know, [Baker has] been the subject of a leak investigation . . . a criminal leak investigation that's still active at the Justice Department," lawyer Daniel Levin told lawmakers, as he pushed back on questions about his client's conversations with reporters. Jordan and Meadows' letter was sent to Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, and requested additional information about the probe later this month.

The letter from the GOP lawmakers cited other concerns that arose as part of their own investigation when Republicans controlled the House: "The Committees learned that in some instances, high-ranking DOJ and FBI officials, including the FBI General Counsel James Baker and DOJ Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr, took the self-described 'unusual' step of inserting themselves into the evidentiary chain of custody." - Father, we pray all those guilty of betraying our nation will be found out.

- Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out. (Proverbs 10:9)

9. Saudi Arabian Flag Candy Statue Removed From Ground Zero Following Backlash - Daily Caller

A nine-foot sculpture depicting the Saudi Arabian flag in the shape of a piece of candy is reportedly being removed from its grounds near the 9/11 memorial in New York City after facing backlash. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said they'd relocate the installation, which features the words "There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is the prophet" in Arabic, after many felt its proximity to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial was insulting and insensitive.

Fifteen of the 19 hijackers in the Sept. 11 attack on the United States were Saudi nationalists, although the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has long denied any involvement. Many survivors and others affected by the attack were upset and confused with the placement, and are welcoming the decision to relocate the statues to the John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"Having respectfully understood the art component of it, I was offended that Saudi Arabia was represented there, particularly that close to hallowed ground," said Tim Frolich, who was permanently disabled in the World Trade Center attacks. "There's no support out there for it from the 9/11 community." (Read more)

- Father, thank You for removing this abomination from New York City. We pray it will also not remain at JFK airport, as You are the One, True, and Living God.

- Thus Josiah removed all the abominations from all the country that belonged to the children of Israel, and made all who were present in Israel diligently serve the Lord their God. All his days they did not depart from following the Lord God of their fathers. (2 Chronicles 34:33)

10. Man accused of plotting White House attack in custody - ABC13; Atlanta

Federal authorities have arrested a man in Georgia, accused of plotting to attack several prominent locations in Washington, D.C., including the White House.

Hasher Jallal Taheb had been under investigation by the FBI as part of a sting operation, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Taheb allegedly told FBI informants that he wanted to conduct an attack in the United States on targets like the White House and Statue of Liberty.

In December, Taheb allegedly showed an undercover operative a hand-drawn diagram of the White House and asked for help with obtaining weapons and explosives for the attack, the complaint states. The FBI traded Taheb weapons and explosives in exchange for his car, and he was arrested after the exchange. (Read more)

Manhood vs toxic masculinity

Procter and Gamble's Gillette brand has procured the ire of some conservative outlets, such as Breitbart News, for an ad it has aired encouraging men to be the best that they can be by not harassing women, getting into or tolerating fighting, and intervening when they see such things. Immediately, conservatives went off the hook equating the ad to emasculating men by urging them to lose their "toxic masculinity." Responding to parts of the ad recognizing the "Me To" movement, the twittersphere lit up with comparisons like "Let me know more toxic masculinity when it saves you from a burning building, goes to war to protect you and your freedoms, or rescues puppies, kittens, and horses from flood waters after a hurricane."

There is truth on both sides of this argument. It is, however, not either/or, but both/and. Yes, the leftists who are trying to destroy this country want American men to be weak and reticent to defend themselves-for obvious reasons. The ideological subversion that has taken place over the past couple of decades is designed by the Marxists, progressives, socialists, communists to ensure that no one is able to come to sensible conclusions to even defend themselves or their families, let alone their nation. But men, real men, do not abuse women, children or animals. They balance the upbringing of their sons with a delicate mix of toughness and lovingkindness, justice and compassion, mental strength and empathy.

The statistics don't lie. In the US, every 9 seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten;1 in every 3 women is abused during her lifetime; Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women-more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined;10 million children witness some form of domestic violence every year; Nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls say a boy friend has threatened violence or self-harm if presented with a breakup; Everyday more than 3 women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends; Men are 2 times as likely to abuse their wives if they witnessed domestic violence as children. Violence against women and children is usually perpetrated by men. It is a man's issue. And we can do something about it.

I am not upholding Procter and Gamble's ad by any stroke of the imagination (or razor blade). I am, however, saying that there are Biblical principles by which men, real men-true gentlemen, should live. Ephesians 5:25 says, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it." Verse 28 says, "So men ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself." Chapter 6 begins with encouraging children to obey and honor their father and mother. Verse 4 says, "And you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." If we as men do these things, we set examples of true manhood using love, truth, honor and justice.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

Signs and Wonders

Rabbinic Expert: First Super Blood Moon of the Year Sign of Earthquakes,
Governments Will Fall

On the evening of January 21, as the holiday of Tu B'shvat begins, a lunar eclipse will pass over the Washington D.C., just as the President will reach the halfway point of his term in office. The eclipse will be a super blood moon, described in Jewish sources as having powerful significance.

On the Gregorian Calendar: The lunar eclipse will be visible in its entirety from North and South America, as well as portions of western Europe and northwest Africa, on the evening of Sunday, January 20 and in the early morning hours of Monday, January 21. The evening of the eclipse will be a supermoon when the moon is at its perigee, the point in its month-long elliptical orbit that brings it closest to Earth. At that time, the moon appears up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than at its apogee, its furthest point from Earth. This will not only be the first lunar eclipse of 2019 but also the year's first supermoon. At that time, the proper conditions will exist to create a blood moon in which the moon has a distinctly reddish tint. This will be the last total lunar eclipse until May 26, 2021.

On the Political Calendar:

The date also marks the halfway point of Donald Trump's presidency, coming exactly two years after he was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. It should be noted that Trump was born on the night of June 14, 1946, within fifteen minutes of a total lunar eclipse and 700 days before the state of Israel was established. Trump's lucky sevens did not end there. When he was sworn in as President on January 20, 2017, he was 70-years-old, seven months and seven days. (Read more)

Sapphires Found Only in Outer Space . . . and Israel:
Tribe of Zebulun's Hidden Wealth

"When I think of precious stones in Israel, my thoughts go straight to the Temple and the vestments of the High Priest, No one thought we would find stones here in Israel but the Temple and the Kohanic vestments required many precious stones. Nowhere does the Bible say that these stones were brought from outside. It was clear the stones from the Temple were from here." - Avi Taub

A company founded on the prophetic advice of the Chabad Rabbi has found a type of gemstone unique to Israel . . . and outer space.

Last week, the International Mineralogical Association recognized a new, distinct mineral discovered by Shefa Yamim, the only mining company searching for precious gems in Israel. The mineral is embedded in sapphire and is named carmeltazite for the Carmel Mountains, the location of its discovery, and the trace minerals it contains: titanium, aluminum, and zirconium. It will be marketed under the name 'Carmel Sapphire." The largest stone the company found to date weighed in at 33.3 carats. After density testing, it was shown to be harder than diamond.

"We are delighted that our Carmel Sapphire has been recognized as a host to many rare minerals," Avi Taub, CEO of Shefa Yamim, said in a statement. "In today's world where the prices of gems are determined predominantly by their rarity, the Carmel Sapphire is a unique discovery because it has not been found anywhere else in the world".
