President Trump's Middle East Plan
|
||||
Jared Kushner visits Middle East with 'opportunity of the century' peace vision
Generations of Palestinians have lived without ever knowing peace.
The West Bank has fallen into a state of prolonged crisis. And throughout much
of Gaza, families must subsist with barely a few hours of working electricity
each day.
The Palestinian story will not end here, however. Although failed by a long line of violent "leaders" who seek perpetual war and terror over peace and prosperity, most Palestinian people want to build a real future for both themselves and their children.
A few hours ago, White House senior advisor Jared Kushner addressed world business leaders alongside key Middle East officials in Manama, Bahrain. He laid out a remarkable "opportunity of the century" economic plan, which would constitute the most ambitious and comprehensive international effort for Palestinians to date.
"The conventional wisdom about the fate of the Palestinians is remarkably consistent," Kushner said. "In meeting after meeting, and conference after conference, I hear the same broken record of negativity about why progress is not possible."
Yet "while politicians pay lip service, the world moves forward, and the Palestinian people continue to be left behind," he added.
Peace
to Prosperity is President Donald J. Trump's political and economic vision for
a vibrant, free Middle East. Today, Kushner laid out the economic half of that
plan. The goal is to allow the Palestinian and Israeli people an opportunity to
see what a prosperous Middle East looks like before discussing a political
roadmap to peace.
The economic plan rests on addressing three crucial pillars of Palestinian society: the economy, the people, and the government:
Unleash economic potential by providing investors with confidence that their assets will be secure with improved property rights, rule of law, fiscal sustainability, capital markets, and anti-corruption policies
Empower the Palestinian people through education, workforce development, and an improved quality of life
Enhance Palestinian Governance by encouraging the Palestinian public sector to provide the services and administration necessary for a better future
"My direct message to the Palestinian people, is that despite what those who have let you down in the past say, President Trump and America have not given up on you," Kushner said.

1. Israel says GPS mysteriously disrupted in its airspace but planes secure - Reuters
JERUSALEM, June 26 (Reuters) - Israel is experiencing unexplained GPS disruptions in its airspace but measures are in place to allow safe landings and takeoffs at its main international airport, the government said on Wednesday.
The announcement by the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) followed a report on Tuesday by the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) that "many" pilots had lost satellite signals from the Global Positioning System around Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport.
Confirming there had been GPS disruptions for approximately the past three weeks, an IAA statement said these affected only airborne crews and not terrestrial navigation systems.
Israeli authorities had worked from the outset to locate the source of the problem and fix it, it added.

2. Seeking End to Netanyahu's 'Corrupt Leadership,' Ex-Israeli PM Barak Announces Election Run - Algemeiner
Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak announced on Wednesday a return to politics as the leader of a new party in Israel's coming national election, saying it was time to end Benjamin Netanyahu's "corrupt leadership."
The legislature dissolved itself last month and scheduled an election after Netanyahu, who heads the right-wing Likud, failed to form a governing coalition following a ballot in April in which no single party won a parliamentary majority.
Political commentators said a comeback for Barak, who once led the left-wing Labor party, could fragment Israel's center-left and harm the chances of Netanyahu's strongest challenger, Benny Gantz of the Blue and White party, unseating him in the Sept. 17 poll.
"We came here today to comment on what is going on around us and announce the establishment of a new party," Barak, 77, told a news conference. He did not say what it would be called, and hinted at a possible alliance with centrist and left-wing parties to defeat Likud.

3. Bahrain FM to Times of Israel: Israel is here to stay, and we want peace with it - Times Of Israel
MANAMA, Bahrain - Bahrain sees the US-led economic workshop taking place in Manama this week as a possible "gamechanger" tantamount in its scope to the 1978 Camp David peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, the Gulf state's foreign minister said Wednesday, also firmly backing Israel's right to exist.
"We see it as very, very important," Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa told The Times of Israel on the sidelines of the "Peace to Prosperity" workshop.
Khalifa also stressed that his country recognizes Israel's right to exist, knows that it is "there to stay," and wants peace with it.

4. Nikki Haley visits Western Wall - Israel National News
Former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, who arrived in Israel to participate in the Israel Hayom Forum for US-Israel Relations, visited the Western Wall today, Wednesday, Israel Hayom reported.
Haley, who is the guest of honor at the special forum, arrived at the women's section of the Western Wall, prayed and placed a note among the stones.
Those present warmly received Haley, who is known for her consistent support for the State of Israel.
This is Haley's first visit to Israel since she left office. During her tenure as UN ambassador (beginning 2017 until the end of 2018), she took a hard line against the organization's anti-Israel bias and even used the US veto power in the UN Security Council for the first time in six years.

5. Gaza official: Halt of fuel imports exacerbating power shortages- Times Of Israel
Israel's decision to stop fuel shipments bound for Gaza Strip's sole power plant has significantly exacerbated the existing power shortage in the coastal enclave, Mohammed Thabet, a spokesman for the Gaza Electricity Distribution Company, said on Wednesday.
The Jewish state decided to halt all fuel shipments destined for the power plant on Tuesday after several flaming balloons launched by Palestinians in Gaza landed in the southern part of the country.
Incendiary balloons originating from Gaza sparked at least 13 fires in southern Israel on Monday, according to the local fire service. The balloons emanating from the Strip caused another another 19 fires on Wednesday, the fire service said.

1. Trump Says US Will Respond With Overwhelming Force if Iran Attacks 'Anything American' - Epoch Times
President Donald Trump on June 25 threatened to respond with "overwhelming force" to the next attack by Iran on any U.S. assets. The president issued the warning after Iran issued a statement ridiculing the White House in response to sanctions ordered by Trump, which targeted the leader of the Iranian regime and senior Iranian military commanders.
Tehran threatened to disrupt oil shipments in the Strait of Hormuz in response to sanctions. The United States suspects that the regime followed through on that threat less than two weeks after the sanctions took effect, with an attack on four oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. A month later, Washington accused Tehran of attacking two more tankers on June 13.
Tehran continues to deny any involvement in the tanker attacks but admits to downing the U.S. drone. Iran claims the drone was in its airspace. The United States asserts that the drone was in international airspace. The sanctions on Iran's oil sector have effectively starved the Iranian economy of the main source of revenue Tehran uses to import food for its 81 million people. (Read more)
- Father God, we pray the leaders of Iran will choose to de-escalate these tensions and come to the negotiating table.
- When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone's way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them. (Proverbs 16:7)
2. Border crisis belongs to Congress - Boston Herald
There is a crisis on the southern border of the United States. Customs and Border Patrol agents are being overwhelmed by a surge of families seeking asylum. Border facilities do not have the necessary resources to care for the immigrants in many cases and conditions are sub-standard. President Trump will sign reasonable legislation and has shown a willingness to compromise. The legislative branch needs to do its job.
We must change the asylum process and remove the incentives for immigrants to come here illegally in the first place. As Rep. Dan Crenshaw, (R-Texas), told Fox News in April, "The asylum process is being completely taken advantage of. People are realizing if they jump across our border and they have a child with them they can raise their hand and claim asylum and they will be caught and released."
Crenshaw sees the bolstering of resources on the border as a priority. "We need more detention facilities, more immigration judges," he said. "We need the ability to adjudicate these claims right on the spot without releasing people. If they don't have a credible claim of persecution and the vast majority do not, they get deported immediately. When you disincentivize just jumping across like that it will have dramatic effects. We need to implement that immediately." (Read more)
- Father, we pray Congress will provide necessary legislation and fully fund the efforts of Homeland Security to resolve the crisis on our border.
- He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. (Deuteronomy 18:10)
3. 'It Never Ends': President Trump Responds After Robert Mueller Agrees to Testify in Congress - Epoch Times
As House Democrats wait eagerly to hear Robert Mueller testify on his findings from the Russia probe, after he previously said that he wouldn't, President Donald Trump said, "It never ends," during an interview with Fox Business Network's "Mornings with Maria."
Mueller is scheduled to testify in open session before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees on July 17, the panels' chairmen, Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) announced on June 25. After the Mueller report was released in April, House Democrats have expended great effort to secure the former special counsel's testimony in an attempt to gather evidence for impeachment.
Trump sounded frustrated by House Democrats' repeated attempts to weaponize the report against the president, despite it finding no collusion with Russia and insufficient evidence obstruction of justice by Trump during the probe. "[T]he report is no collusion, no obstruction which was ruled on. I mean, how many times do we have to go through this stuff-five times?" Trump said. (Read more)
- Lord, we ask You to expose all the motives behind the Mueller investigation, and where necessary, bring people to justice.
- He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. (Psalm 37:6)
4. Michael Flynn Attorney Suggests Special Counsel Withheld Key Information From His Defense - The Federalist
On Monday, former President Trump national security advisor Michael Flynn appeared before Judge Emmet Sullivan for a routine status hearing. Yet the 15-minute hearing proved anything but usual when Flynn's new attorney, prosecutor turned defense attorney Sidney Powell, suggested that the special counsel's office may not have produced classified information relevant to Flynn's case. And Powell made clear she intends to obtain it.
While the government told the court it was "not relying on any other recordings, of any person, for purposes of establishing the defendant's guilt or determining his sentence, nor are there any other recordings that are part of the sentencing record," Sullivan's standing order required the special counsel to provide Flynn any information material to his guilt or sentence, and to present the court any information that might be favorable to Flynn that the government did not believe to be material.
Flynn's prior attorneys may not have attempted to enforce the court's order, but from Powell's preliminary comments during Monday's hearing suggest she has every intent of demanding the documents. And that's where things will get interesting.
- Father, we pray Sidney Powell receives all the information requested and is able to expose prosecutorial misconduct, if it exists.
- The judges shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is a false witness and he has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him just as he had intended to do to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you.
(Deuteronomy 19:18-19)
5. DOJ urges definitive ruling from SCOTUS on census citizenship question - Politico
The Trump administration made an unusual last-minute plea to the Supreme Court Tuesday, telling the justices that actions by lower courts make it urgent to act quickly to resolve the legality of adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
The Trump administration has maintained that it added the question to enhance Voting Rights Act enforcement, but opponents say it was done for partisan reasons to discourage citizen and noncitizen immigrants from responding to the census. Three federal judges have ruled that the addition of the question was illegal because it was justified inadequately by the officials involved.
The Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling on the issue this week. Decisions in some cases are expected Wednesday and additional releases are possible later in the week before the justices depart for their summer break. (Read more)
- Father, we pray this common sense question for the Census will be approved by the Supreme Court.
- Solomon numbered all the aliens who were in the land of Israel, following the census which his father David had taken; and 153,600 were found. (2 Chronicles 2:17)
6. Trump signs executive order calling for upfront disclosure of hospital costs - FoxNews
President Trump on Monday signed an executive order demanding the upfront disclosure by hospitals of the actual prices for common tests and procedures. Trump's order also requires that patients be told ahead of time what their out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and copays will be. "This landmark initiative continues our work to put American patients first," Trump said at the White House. "We are fundamentally changing the nature of the health care marketplace."
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told reporters before Trump's remarks that the idea is to give patients practical information that they can use to help save money. For example, if a hospital charges your insurer $3,500 for a type of echocardiogram and the same test costs $550 in a doctor's office, you might go for the lower-price procedure to save on copays.
The executive order calls for a rule-making process by federal agencies, which typically takes months or even years. The details of what information will have to be disclosed and how it will be made available to patients must be worked out as part of writing the regulations. That will involve a complex give-and-take with hospitals, insurers and others affected. Consumers will have to wait to see whether the results live up to the administration's promises. (Read more)
- Father God, we pray these rules and regulations will go into effect quickly and begin to help people make good financial choices for themselves and those responsible for payment.
- For wisdom is protection just as money is protection, but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors. (Ecclesiastes 7:12)
7. Study: Crime Guns Obtained Illegally Shortly Before Shootings - FreeBeacon
A study published in the latest edition of the Journal of Urban Health argues perpetrators of gun crimes acquire their guns shortly before using them, and better enforcement of current law could interrupt these transactions.
The study said those interviewed were unable to obtain guns via legal purchases and got them from relatives or through underground contacts. Researchers found the median time between purchasing a firearm and using it in a crime was two months. Furthermore, 42 percent of respondents said they did not have a gun six months before their arrest.
The researchers believe law enforcement should understand that criminals obtain guns in illegal transactions with people they know, often relatively soon before committing crimes. They also argue this knowledge would give law enforcement a better chance at preventing future gun crimes. The researchers said tools to stop such transactions are already available to law enforcement, and that better enforcement of current law could result in a noticeable reduction in gun crime. (Read more)
- Father, we pray our entire system will be aligned to prevent ineligible people from obtaining firearms. We also pray friends and family will heed the warning of Your Holy Spirit and not allow them to have a weapon.
- And all the horns of the wicked He will cut off, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up. (Psalm 75:10)
8. Illinois becomes 11th state to allow recreational marijuana - NBC
Illinois' new governor delivered on a top campaign promise Tuesday by signing legislation legalizing small amounts of marijuana for recreational use, making the state the 11th to do so and the first to implement a statewide cannabis marketplace designed by legislators.
Legalization in Illinois also means that nearly 800,000 people with criminal records for purchasing or possessing 30 grams of marijuana or less may have those records expunged, a provision minority lawmakers and interest groups demanded. It also gives cannabis-vendor preference to minority owners and promises 25 percent of tax revenue from marijuana sales to redevelop impoverished communities.
Police organizations are wary, concerned about enforcing driving under the influence laws and arguing technology for testing marijuana impairment needs more development. (Read more)
- Father, we lift up the people of Illinois and pray You will deliver them from foolish leaders.
- A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is arrogant and careless. (Proverbs 14:16)
9. Colorado kids pay big price for state's decision to legalize marijuana - Powerline
The returns are in on Colorado's decision to legalize marijuana: (1) Large amounts of money are being made thanks to legalization, privately and by the state; (2) "horrible things are happening to kids." The quotation is from psychiatrist Libby Stuyt. She treats teens in southwestern Colorado and has studied the health effects of high-potency marijuana. Stuyt says: "I see increased problems with psychosis, with addiction, with suicide, with depression and anxiety" stemming from legalization in the state.
The Washington Post informs us that in the Denver area, visits to Children's Hospital Colorado facilities for treatment of cyclic vomiting, paranoia, psychosis and other acute cannabis-related symptoms jumped to 777 in 2015, from 161 in 2005.
As a reward for jeopardizing the mental health of its young people, Colorado is bringing in large sums of tax revenue. According to the Washington Post, in 2018 $1.54 billion in sales produced $266 million in fees, licenses, and taxes. No politician will admit that the financial benefits of legalizing marijuana are worth significant increases in psychosis, depression, and suicide, coupled with decreased ability to perform and learn in school. (Read more)
- Father, we pray for a reversal of recreational marijuana in Colorado, and for this state's experience to instruct others on what NOT to do. We pray for the youth impacted by this law and pray for their minds to be restored.
- But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay. (Psalm 40:17)
10. Laws must be applied equally or they don't matter - Boston Herald
Volodymyr Zhukovskyy is what happens when you stop enforcing all the laws, for all the people. If you tell one group of individuals that, for whatever reason, there are certain laws they no longer have to abide by, it's not long before everybody else begins to believe that there's no reason they should be held accountable for any crimes they commit either.
Volodymyr Zhukovskyy is not an American, but he is in the country legally. The problem is, with all the illegal immigrant criminals who are here getting a pass, day in and day out, on everything from identity theft to fentanyl dealing, why shouldn't Volodymyr, too, have expected all the passes he got on drunk driving, on cocaine, on heroin, on larceny, in Massachusetts, in Connecticut, in Texas?
And so he enjoyed his multiple passes, right up until last Friday afternoon, when he's accused of killing seven Americans by driving a pickup truck into a group of motorcycle riders in northern New Hampshire. Until Friday, what did Volodymyr Zhukovskyy have to fear from the criminal justice system? Forget sanctuary cities, or sanctuary states. It's a sanctuary nation for Volodymyr Zhukovskyy and millions like him, citizens and illegal immigrants alike. (Read more)
- Father God, we ask You to restore law and order, righteousness and justice throughout our nation. We pray for the families of the bikers killed and injured and pray for Your comfort upon each one.
- And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice. (Psalm 50:6)

The immorality of college debt
Wednesday, June 26, 2019
Several years ago, I was on the phone with a college finance office discussing what I believed to be overcharges on my son's student loan. Of course, through the whole tangled web of this grant, and that loan, and whatever, it was like unraveling a ton of coat hangers dumped in a pile. By and large, even with a football scholarship and academic scholarships, my son will have over $80,000 in debt to start his professional life. I told the finance person that I believed it was immoral what these colleges and universities were doing to this generation. You can see why neo communist Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and other politicians are saying they would forgive college loans if elected. It's down-right vote buying.
Sanders and others are going after the millennial generation vote by saying that they will cancel college debt. In fact, they have introduced legislation to do just that, and provide free tuition at public colleges and universities. AP reports, "Sanders vowed at a Monday news conference that his plan "completely eliminates student debt in this country and the absurdity of sentencing an entire generation, the millennial generation, to a lifetime of debt for the crime of doing the right thing. And that is going out and getting a higher education." He appeared alongside the proposal's House sponsors, Reps. Ilhan Omar, (D-MN), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), with American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten in attendance." No mention that Sanders' "plan" will never be implemented. It's just his plan to get votes.
These neo communists know that their legislation has zero chance of passage. They also know that by saying that if elected they will cancel college debt and provide free tuition is an impossible lie. But it doesn't matter, millions of millennials will believe them and vote for them. The question of who is going to pay for this would come up. And the answer will likely be that we owe it to our children. In reality, what we owe to our children is to clean up the entire mess of the liberal education system, which propagates immorality, irresponsibility, and socialist agendas, and perpetuates the dumbing down of our children. Universities and colleges are so bloated with political nonsense, teachers that can't hold a real job, and nonessential overhead that higher education is an unaffordable bad value.
What happens if ever there is free tuition? What happens if college debt is cancelled? It just cheapens education and starts the debt cycle over again. What is needed is real reform. Removing the fat from college budgets, which would include the political agenda, a whole bunch of unnecessary student services and fees, and the inflated administration budget, including salaries of the overstuffed pontificators who are ruining generations of Americans. But that won't happen because it would address the root of the problem: Ending socialist brainwashing paid for by either students, their parents, or the general public. Colossians 2:8 says, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." And therein is the immorality of college debt.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
