Border Bill Passes

Pelosi Caves to GOP Pressure, Senate Border Funding Bill Passes, President to Sign
A coalition of moderate Democrats and Republicans approved crucial border funding legislation late Thursday in the House, sending the $4.6 billion bill to President Trump's desk for his expected signature - after Speaker Nancy Pelosi backed down from a push to include restrictions on immigration enforcement that could have scuttled the measure.
In doing so, Pelosi risked a severe backlash from the progressive base calling for those measures, convinced that so-called "guardrails" must be imposed to prevent alleged abuses by border officials.
But the speaker agreed to bring the bipartisan Senate-passed bill to a vote, without such restrictions, following intense pressure from Republicans and moderates in her own party. The Senate had demonstrated that bipartisan support by approving the bill 84-8 a day earlier, after rejecting an earlier House version.
While liberal members wanted to put restrictions back in the Senate bill, members were running up against a deadline with the July 4 recess about to begin. In explaining her decision, Pelosi cited the urgent need to get funding to help children caught in the humanitarian crisis at the southern border.
"In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill. As we pass the Senate bill, we will do so with a Battle Cry as to how we go forward to protect children in a way that truly honors their dignity and worth," she wrote in a letter to colleagues.
The bill passed 305-102.

[Editorial comment: this action, which took place on Tuesday in the House, was the precursor that led to the victory in the Senate on Thursday, reported above.]
It took last-minute changes and a full-court press by top Democratic leaders, but the House passed with relative ease Tuesday a $4.5 billion emergency border aid package to care for thousands of migrant families and unaccompanied children detained after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
The bill passed along party lines after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi quelled a mini-revolt by progressives and Hispanic lawmakers who sought significant changes to the legislation. New provisions added to the bill Tuesday were more modest than what those lawmakers had sought, but the urgent need for the funding - to prevent the humanitarian emergency on the border from turning into a debacle - appeared to outweigh any lingering concerns.
The 230-195 vote sets up a showdown with the Republican-led Senate, which may try instead to force Democrats to send Trump a different, and broadly bipartisan, companion measure in coming days as the chambers race to wrap up the must-do legislation by the end of the week.
"The Senate has a good bill. Our bill is much better," Pelosi, D-Calif., told her Democratic colleagues in a meeting Tuesday morning, according to a senior Democratic aide who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the private session.
"We are ensuring that children have food, clothing, sanitary items, shelter and medical care. We are providing access to legal assistance. And we are protecting families because families belong together," Pelosi said in a subsequent floor speech.
The bill contains more than $1 billion to shelter and feed migrants detained by the border patrol and almost $3 billion to care for unaccompanied migrant children who are turned over the Department of Health and Human Services. It seeks to mandate improved standards of care at HHS "influx shelters" that house children waiting to be placed with sponsors such as family members in the U.S.
Both House and Senate bills ensure funding could not be shifted to Trump's border wall and would block information on sponsors of immigrant children from being used to deport them. Trump would be denied additional funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention beds. (Read more)
- Lord, we pray that this bi-partisanship shown in the passage of this bill will create more opportunities to work together for the good of our country.
We thank You, too, that tomorrow, as we all fall on bended knee on the Call2Fall, we have a national opportunity to bring forth REPENTANCE . . . yielding PEACE. Amen.
- " . . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Beware of Unholy Alliances
|
||||
Beware of Unholy, Demonic Alliances of Some Candidates
As we have watched the beginning of the 2020 election cycle with the first two democratic debates, let's pray the God would expose and protect our nation from any unholy, demonic alliance that any candidate might have. These alliances may be by conscious decisions or by unwitting circumstances. (As we move toward the 2020 elections, we will also pray this for all candidates on both sides of the aisle.)
What unholy alliances might we find or need to watch for? Anything that partners with an anti-biblical position or principal, relationships between funders of evil agendas and candidates who take their support and money, or a spirit of Jezebel, death, division, anti-Christ or other that permeates a candidate's messaging.
We need to be praying for the spiritual battle behind the campaigns. We have created a resource so that you can be praying for each Democratic candidate by name and pray about such issues that may be hidden from the public. The Special Report, "Who Will Face Trump in 2020?" is available for instant download here. As you read through the report, listen to the Holy Spirit and be sensitive to how you are guided to pray.

- Holy Spirit, guide our prayer! Show us how we can pray about the spiritual battle behind the elections.

SCOTUS Rules: Alabama Abortion Ruling Stands

Supreme Court Ducks Case on Alabama 'Dismemberment Abortion' Ban
The Supreme Court ruled against hearing Alabama's case on legislation that bans "dismemberment abortions" on Friday, the Washington Examiner reported.
In February, 21 states filed a petition to hear the case after the legislation was blocked.
However, the Supreme Court's decision not to hear it means Alabama's ban on this method of abortion will remain in place. A federal judge previously ruled that the legislation was unconstitutional.
. . . Justice Clarence Thomas expressed his agreement with the decision to deny the Alabama hearing, citing the Supreme Court's decision in the Planned Parenthood v. Casey case.
"The notion that anything in the Constitution prevents states from passing laws prohibiting the dismembering of a living child is implausible," he said.
- Father God, we shout HALLELUJAH for this decision, announced today. We praise You, Father, that the State of Alabama is choosing LIFE, and that our U.S. Supreme Court agrees. PRAISE THE LORD!
- "My mouth will declare the praise of the LORD; let every creature bless His holy name forever and ever." (Psalm 145:21)

Trump Meets Chinese President at G-20 Summit

Trump, Xi arrive for high-stakes G-20 meeting Trump, Xi arrive for high-stakes G-20 meeting
President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived for a face-to-face meeting in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday amid trade tensions between the U.S. and China.
Afterward, Trump described the meeting as "excellent" and said the U.S. and China are "back on track" but that "negotiations are continuing."
The meeting between the two leaders at the G-20 summit is their first in seven months, although the two reportedly saw each other at a dinner for the Group of 20 leaders, where Trump said much was accomplished. Trump and Xi were expected to focus on issues including trade and a dispute over Huawei Technologies.
"We've had an excellent relationship," Trump said to Xi at the beginning of the meeting, "but we want to do something that will even it up with respect to trade." Trump told reporters he thought they would have a "very productive" meeting. "I think we can go on to do something that will be truly monumental and great for both countries," he added.
Xi said he felt both the U.S. and China benefit from cooperation and lose with confrontation. "Cooperation and dialogue are better than friction and confrontation," he said. (Fox News) Read more.
- Father, we lift up President Trump while he continues to meet with world leaders at the G-20 Summit in Japan. We thank You for the apparent softening now of relations between China and America, and we ask continued dialogue and favor between our two nations in the days ahead. In Your Name, amen.
- "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3)

Alert for California Pastors
|
||||
Why California Pastors Must Stand Up to Government Tyranny
In the latest and most egregious example of attempted government overreach, California legislators have proposed a bill that would dictate what pastors preach from the pulpit. Specifically, "Assembly Concurrent Resolution 99 calls on 'counselors, pastors, religious workers, educators' and institutions with 'great moral influence' to stop perpetuating the idea that something is wrong with LGBT identities or sexual behavior. ACR 99 also condemns attempts to change unwanted same-sex attraction or gender confusion as 'unethical,' 'harmful,' and leading to high rates of suicide."
Put another way, these legislators are telling pastors and spiritual leaders to throw out the Bible, disregard the Lord's will, ignore the testimony of thousands of ex-gays, and conform to extreme political correctness - or else.
This is one of the most frontal attacks on our religious freedoms in memory (or, perhaps, in our nation's history). And it confirms what I have said for the last 15 years: Those who came out of the closet want to put us in the closet. This is nothing less than that ancient spirit of Jezebel trying to silence God's messengers through fear and intimidation.
There is one way to respond to such spiritual and legal attacks: First, stand up against the bill in order to expose its bias and bigotry; and second, if the bill should actually pass (which might be a longshot even in California), defy it.

Big tech free speech "truth" squads
The First Amendment to the US Constitution reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." This means that the US government cannot abridge the freedoms of speech, the press, peaceful assembly, and to petition the government for redress. But I repeat myself. It is important. Especially when big tech companies have become such large platforms that their censure of free speech. religion and political ideologyhas a similar affect as if the government were doing the censuring.
In a blatant private enterprise attempt to censure free speech, Twitter announced it will attach a notice to tweets that it considers offensive, but "may be in the public's interest for the tweet to remain available." Twitter says, "A cross-functional team including Trust and Safety, Legal, Public Policy and regional teams will determine if the Tweets are a matter of public interest based on the criteria listed above the following considerations." Twitter listed five criteria its truth squads will use including the severity of the "rule violation"; whether preserving the Tweet will hold public officials or candidates accountable; whether sources of information are available for the public to stay informed; if removal would hide context or prevent people from understanding the issue; and if the Tweet will provide unique context for a broader discussion.
Then Twitter reveals the true story about their free speech truth squads: "In instances where a Tweet violates our rules and our review doesn't find that it would be in the public interest to leave it up, we will require the account owner to remove the Tweet. Either way, this notice will make our decision-making clearer." Twitter's policy applies to candidates, public office holders, and government officials with over 100,000 followers. In other words, as a matter of policy Twitter is going to allow a special appointed committee to determine whether to allow a public official's free speech to live or die on its platform, which has become the major vehicle of direct communication to the people.
Twitter (and probably the other tech giants will follow suit if they haven't already-can anyone say Facebook?) will attempt to influence the next election by censuring public officials. Who is the public official who uses Twitter most effectively to talk to Americans? President Donald Trump. Twitter is saying if Trump doesn't meet their truth squad's criteria, he will be censured. This is the problem when privately-owned free speech platforms become so large that they can be weaponized for political purposes and impose their own ideology. As Christ said in John 8:32, "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." Big tech is attempting to suppress the truth to hold you captive to political intolerance and ideological bigotry, and that includes your Christian values.
Have a blessed and powerful day,
