Update: The Equality Act

Urgent: Join Christian Leaders in Opposing the Dangerous Equality Act

Vote Now Scheduled for Friday, May 17th

Dear Friends,

We need your help in stopping H.R. 5, the poorly-named Equality Act, which is a bill in Congress that is a direct assault on religious freedom, the family, and the sanctity of human life. We expect the House of Representatives will vote on this harmful bill this Friday, May 17 at 10:30 AM ET.

Because of the urgency of the matter, this letter from twenty-one Christian leaders was sent yesterday to both Republican and Democratic leadership in the U.S. House and Senate. On Thursday evening, May 16 at 7:00 PM ET we will send a follow-up letter in opposition to the Equality Act with the names of additional pastors and church leaders from around the country. We invite you to consider adding your name to the letter, asking Congress to stop this assault on faith, family, and freedom.

Your name will be added along with other leaders like Franklin Graham, Robert Morris, Harry Jackson, Jr., Jack Graham, Todd Wagner, and James Robison. Please click here to add your name and the name of your church or organization to the letter. The deadline is 5:00 PM ET, on Thursday, May 16.

H.R. 5 is a top priority for Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic majority in the House, and because of the far-reaching negative implications for Bible-believing Christians, stopping it must be our top priority. Please join us in signing the letter and in encouraging your church or the members of your organization to contact their Representative and Senators and ask them to stop H.R. 5, the Equality Act.

Standing for Faith, Family, and Freedom,

Dr. Kenyn M. Cureton
Vice President for Church Ministries

2. Iran blames 'Israeli mischief' for tanker attacks off UAE coast - YNET News

The tanker attacks off the coast of the United Arab Emirates were "Israeli mischief," an Iranian parliamentary spokesman said on Tuesday, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, says a different attack on its oil interests was conducted using drones launched by Iranian-backed group.

"The events that took place in the Emirates were Israeli mischief," Behrouz Nemati said, without providing any details on what role Israel may have played in the attacks.

Details of the alleged sabotage to two Saudi, one Norwegian and one Emirati oil tanker on Sunday remained unclear, and Gulf officials have declined to say who they suspected was responsible.

3. Netanyahu: United in our desire to stop Iranian aggression - Israel National News

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday expressed support for US President Donald Trump's stance against Iranian aggression.

"There is a new efflorescence, a new renaissance of relations between us and many of our Arab neighbors, and many non-Arab Muslim countries. We are united in our desire to stop Iranian aggression," said Netanyahu at an event marking the one year anniversary of the US Embassy moving to Jerusalem.

"Israel and all the countries of the region and all the countries who seek peace in the world should stand together with the United States against Iranian aggression. We have to keep on strengthening the State of Israel and keep on strengthening the indispensable alliance with America," he added.

Netanyahu's comments came as Washington deployed an aircraft carrier strike group and nuclear-capable bombers to the Gulf in the wake of unspecified threats from Iran.

4. Islamic Jihad leader: 'Greater battle with Zionist enemy to come, we were hours away from bombing Tel Aviv - JNS

(May 13, 2019 / MEMRI) In an interview with Lebanese Mayadeen TV last week, Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ziyad Al-Nakhaleh said the terrorist group had demonstrated only a portion of its "power and determination" in its armed conflict with Israel earlier in May. He went on to say that his organization had "sufficient capabilities for a prolonged confrontation."

Referring to the events of May 3-6, he said "these past few days were only a live-fire exercise for the resistance," adding that he is certain that "a greater battle with the Zionist enemy is yet to come." Al-Nakhaleh said that the PIJ had not informed Cairo of its intention to "retaliate" against Israel.

5. Israel Celebrates First-Year Anniversary of US Embassy Move to Jerusalem - Jewish Press

Israel is marking the official one-year anniversary of the U.S. Embassy move to Jerusalem with fanfare and celebration, along with embassy officials and diplomats in the capital.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman declared Tuesday in remarks at a celebration marking the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Embassy move to Jerusalem, that Israel is gaining strength, for two reasons.

One, because the 'unbreakable bond' between Israel and the United States is growing "stronger and stronger and stronger," Friedman said, and "the second is that Israel has one secret weapon that not too many countries have: Israel is on the side of God, and we don't underestimate that."

The Daily Brief

1. US attorney John Durham has been reviewing origins of Russia probe 'for weeks'- FoxNews

The U.S. attorney appointed to examine the origins of the Russia investigation has been working on his review "for weeks," a person familiar with the process told Fox News on Tuesday, to probe "all intelligence collection activities" related to the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

Fox News reported on Monday that Attorney General Bill Barr had assigned John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, to conduct the inquiry into alleged misconduct and alleged improper government surveillance on the Trump campaign in 2016 as well as whether Democrats were the ones who improperly colluded with foreign actors.

Durham, known as a "hard-charging, bulldog" prosecutor, according to a source, will focus on the period before Nov. 7, 2016-including the use and assignments of FBI informants, as well as alleged improper issuance of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants. Durham was asked to help Barr to "ensure that intelligence collection activities by the U.S. Government related to the Trump 2016 Presidential Campaign were lawful and appropriate."

A source also told Fox News that Barr is working "collaboratively" on the investigation with FBI Director Chris Wray, CIA Director Gina Haspel, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and that Durham is also working directly with Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who is currently reviewing allegations of misconduct in issuance of FISA warrants, and the role of FBI informants during the early stages of the investigation.

Durham has led numerous public corruption probes, including organized crime, government misconduct and financial fraud matters. In 1999 AG Janet Reno appointed Durham to investigate law enforcement corruption in Boston, and under AG Eric Holder Durham was selected to investigate matters relating to the destruction of videotapes by the CIA and treatment of detainees by the CIA. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray U.S. Attorney John Durham will uncover and prosecute all the malfeasance within the Department of Justice and FBI.

- With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you (Luke 1:3a)

2. GOP Rep. Meadows Predicts Comey Will Have His Day of Reckoning- Breitbart

Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity," Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, predicted that in the coming days, the narrative that was the justification for the Department of Justice's special counsel probe led by Robert Mueller would begin to "unravel." He added that former FBI Director James Comey would have his "day of reckoning," as well.

"I think in the coming days, and by days I mean just a few days, we'll start to see a lot of this unravel," Meadows said. "But as it unravels, part of why you're seeing Jerry Nadler and others go crazy is because they know that the truth is coming out."

"As passionate as they were today - they haven't been passionate when we've been in the privacy of those rooms, asking those questions like Jim [Jordan] and I and others have," he continued. "They won't even look at the documents because they don't even want to know the truth. And Director [James] Comey, he has his day of reckoning, too. You know, he says that they investigate. We also know they criminally leaked as well. It's time for accountability." (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for accountability. We declare that the deep state will be finally not just be exposed, but removed.

- You will decree a matter, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways. (Job 22:28)

3. Senators: Trump to roll out immigration plan in speech 'as early as this week' - Washington Examiner

President Trump will deliver a speech as early as this week outlining an immigration reform plan that would bolster border security and create a more merit-based system, according to GOP senators who attended a meeting with Vice President Mike Pence Tuesday.

Pence, along with Trump senior adviser Jared Kushner, and senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, briefed GOP senators on the plan, which would include both border security elements and the changes to bolster merit-based immigration. Trump has held smaller meetings with GOP lawmakers at the White House to discuss the plan.

Tuesday's meeting was aimed at uniting the GOP around a central plan. "I don't think it's designed to get Democratic support as much as it is to unify the Republican Party around border security," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. "This is what we want on border security, this is what we want on merit-based immigration." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the people of this nation will rally behind this plan and bring law and order to our border and nation.

- When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan. (Proverbs 29:2)

4. Democrats rally around Tlaib after Holocaust comments - WIN

Top Democrats came to Rep. Rashida Tlaib's defense Monday after President Trump and other Republicans slammed her statement that implied that Palestinians willingly helped the Jews after the Holocaust by giving up their land to create Israel.

However, American historians and Israeli officials have backed Republican criticism that Rep. Tlaib misrepresented Arab behavior in British Mandate Palestine during the Holocaust. In the podcast, Rep. Tlaib, who represents a districts in Detroit, said that she "love[d] the fact" that "in many ways" it was her ancestors who provided "a safe haven for Jews post-the-Holocaust." She added that "she was humbled by the fact that it was my ancestors that had to suffer for that to happen." And she said she would not "allow others to hijack it and say it's some extremist approach."

The Arab leader in Palestine during World War II, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was a firm supporter of Hitler and recruited Arabs for the German army. Before, during and after the war, it was Arab pressure on England that led the British to close the gates of Palestine to Jewish refugees just as the Nazis began their conquest of Europe.

- Father, we pray for Representative Rashida Tlaib to be able to hear valid criticism and expand her thinking. Lord, we know You desire her to be in Your Kingdom, so we pray for her salvation and the renewing of her mind.

- Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

5. Trump accelerates directed-energy weapons development - American Thinker

The Trump administration has moved quickly to fund over 100 new directed energy and hypersonic weapons. Deputy Chief of Staff for Programming Gen. John "Mike" Murray told the House Armed Services subcommittee last week that the Army is already reporting "great success" at killing drones with experimental low-powered lasers, that a laser weapon mounted on an 8×8 Stryker is expected to enter service in 2023. He projects a much more powerful truck-mounted directed energy cannon will be deployed soon thereafter.

Assistant Secretary of the Army for acquisition Bruce Jette told the House committee that the Trump administration intends to have all branches of the military work together on directed-energy weapon logistics and technology because, "There's not enough money to see if we can compete with the Air Force, the Navy, and DARPA."

The Trump crash program in directed-energy development drove spending to $1.1 billion in 2019. But Pentagon planners told the House that due to the success of the effort, their budget request for 2020 would fall to $840 million. (Read more)

- Father, we pray our military will have the best and most advanced equipment available to keep our nation safe. We also pray our leaders will have the restraint to use these weapons only when absolutely necessary.

- He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows. (Psalm 7:13)

6. FBI uncovers homegrown terror training camp in Alabama - KATU, Alabama

At first glance, it looks like an abandoned dump. But this plot of land in Macon County, Alabama is described in an FBI search warrant as a "makeshift military-style obstacle course" belonging to a small group of terrorists led by Siraj Wahhaj who owned the property up a long dirt road but just a few miles from downtown Tuskegee.

The property, similar to another compound in New Mexico the group is now linked to where federal prosecutors say Wahhaj and four other suspects were training children to carry out deadly terror attacks on American soil.

FBI Assistant Director for the Counterterrorism Division Michael McGarrity told lawmakers on Capitol Hill there are 850 open domestic terrorism investigations, with 40% racially motivated violent extremism. (Read more)

- Lord, thank You that this camp was discovered before any attack occurred. We pray that You would reveal every single camp that might be in our nation, and bring justice to bear against them.

- For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light. (Luke 8:17)

7. Trump Says US in 'Fantastic Position' in Trade War With China - Epoch Times

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a series of tweets posted on the morning of May 14, said the United States economy was well-positioned to succeed despite the trade dispute with China. "China buys MUCH less from us than we buy from them, by almost 500 Billion Dollars, so we are in a fantastic position," Trump wrote.

On May 10, U.S. tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports were increased to 25 percent from 10 percent. In response, the Chinese Finance Ministry announced on May 13 that Beijing would raise tariffs on $60 billion of U.S. goods. The U.S. tariff hike was enacted in response to the Chinese regime allegedly reneging on commitments negotiated over months of trade discussions.

According to Reuters, Beijing backtracked on commitments to change its laws on key structural issues including forced technology transfer, theft of U.S. intellectual property, and currency manipulation. (Read more)

- Father, we pray President Trump, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, and U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer, will have the wisdom needed to work out a trade deal with the Chinese.

- If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

8. Trump: Farmers to Get $15B Amid China Trade War - NewsMax

President Donald Trump said on Monday that his administration was planning to provide about $15 billion in aid to help U.S. farmers whose products may be targeted with tariffs by China amid a deepening trade war.

American farmers, a key constituency of Trump, have been among the hardest hit in the trade war. Soybeans are the most valuable U.S. farm export, and shipments to China dropped to a 16-year low in 2018, while soybean futures prices last week fell this week to 11-year lows.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said on Friday that Trump had asked him to create a plan to help American farmers cope with the heavy impact of the U.S.-China trade war on agriculture. While farmers have largely remained supportive of Trump, many have called for an imminent end to the trade dispute, which propelled farm debt to the highest levels in decades and worsened credit conditions for the rural economy. (Read more)

- Father, we pray our farmer's financial stability will be restored, as well as their land with the recent flooding.

- Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure-pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return. (Luke 6:38)

9. Iran vows 'no talks with US' after Trump invite - World Israel News

Iran's semi-official Tasnimnews agency quoted Gen. Yadollah Javani as saying that "there will be no negotiations with America." The Iranian commander also claimed the U.S. would not dare take military action against Iran but did not elaborate.

The verbal exchange comes as tensions escalate between Washington and Tehran. The Trump administration sent the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and a bomber squadron to the region in response to threats by Iran against American interests.

On Wednesday, Iran threatened to renew nuclear enrichment that had been halted under the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers - a year after U.S. President Donald Trump pulled America from the accord, saying it does nothing to stop Iran from developing missiles or destabilizing the Middle East. But in a softer approach, Trump told reporters on Thursday at the White House: "What I would like to see with Iran, I would like to see them call me." (Read more)

- Lord, we call forth Your angelic host to cover and protect our troops and our nation against any and all actions made by Iran. We call forth the true people of that nation, removing the yoke of the Ayatollahs, and allowing them once again to be free.

- And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. (Isaiah 10:27)

10. Pompeo shares details on 'escalating' Iran threats in Brussels: U.S. State Department - Reuters

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shared information on "escalating" threats from Iran with European allies and NATO officials during meetings in Brussels on Monday, the U.S. special representative for Iran said.

"The secretary wanted to share some details behind what we have been saying publicly," Hook said. "We believe that Iran should try talks instead of threats. They have chosen poorly by focusing on threats."

Hook said Pompeo, while in Brussels, also discussed reported attacks on several oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE said on Sunday that four commercial vessels were sabotaged near Fujairah emirate, one of the world's largest bunkering hubs lying just outside the Strait of Hormuz. It did not describe the nature of the attack or say who was behind it. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Secretary Pompeo's talks with other nations will be successful in advancing U.S. policy.

- A trustworthy envoy brings healing (Proverbs 13:17b)

What to do Part 1

In response to the congressman admitting that there is an ongoing coup attempt by the President's opponents, many Daily Jot readers ask the question, "What do we do about this?" It's not only about the constant haranguing, bullying and labeling of anyone who disagrees with the coup-makers, but also about our freedoms of religion and speech and way of life. One reader was representative of the others, writing, "Please, help us, tell us what we can do!! It surely seems the silent majority just doesn't know what to do, who or how we get into action and stop this . . . I truly believe if you would give some direction this would help tremendously." It's not my place to tell you what to do, but here are some considerations.

First, this takes some self-examination. This young man asked what he had to do to receive eternal life. Jesus said you have to give up your self, take up the cross (which was very offensive for it was the most demeaning way to die), and follow him. In counting the costs, the young man could not bear to do what the Lord advised. Considering the depth of the situation, you will have to determine how far you are willing to go. When the powers that be can ruin your life, as they have tried to do to President Donald Trump, the cost beyond writing letters and making phone calls becomes very high. This is, however, not about politics or even government. We are seeing the results of not taking up the cross and following Jesus.
What are you willing to do? How far are you willing to carry the cross? Christ said in Matthew 5:13, "You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men." The reason I do not often tell you what to do is because I believe you need to be seeking the Holy Spirit, studying your Bible in its context and true meaning, and determining your course of action. For myself, I speak out. I find people at the grocery store, gas pump, athletic gatherings, etc., to use the news to speak out. If you think attending your church's "be all you can be in Christ" seminar is speaking out, perhaps you need to think this through a bit more.
Society has become so dark because the light is dim. As Christ said in Matthew 5:14-15, "You are the light of the world: A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house." Similarly, changing the world cannot be done inside the four walls of churches and conference centers. Don't allow these things to hide your light. Your light is the light of Christ and it needs to shine. If it's extra-biblical, emotional and self-indulgent, your light is not going to shine because it becomes about you, rather than Christ. So the first step in What to Do is self examination and counting the cost. Then you need to bend over and pick up that cross. Politics and government have nothing to do with this, it's about relationship with Christ and following him.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

The Daily Jot Staff

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God."
