"Standing United Together . . . Under the Cross of Christ"

Focus on Israel

1. PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM - CHPP

Dear Saints of the Most High God,

This map shows us the many cities where over 150 Hamas rockets struck in Israel this past week.

As the map shows, over just the past few days, Israel has taken a huge beating. We know you have all been tracking this news with us, and we ask that you offer a special prayer this weekend that the apparent "truce" that held last night (see below) will HOLD.

Thank you!

"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee." (Psalm 122:6)

2. No rockets or airstrikes as fragile Gaza truce lasts through the night - Times of Israel

After two days that saw the worst exchange of fire between Israel and Hamas since the 2014 war, a fragile truce prevailed Friday in Gaza, with no rocket attacks or airstrikes since an apparent ceasefire went into effect at midnight.

The Hamas terror group said a ceasefire had been reached "on the basis of mutual calm." It said the deal was mediated by Egypt and other regional players.

Israel denied there was a truce, but a senior Israeli official told Israel Radio that "quiet would be met with quiet." There were no instances of violence reported along the border overnight.

3. Over 150 rockets launched into Israel, woman seriously injured - Times of Israel

A woman was seriously injured in Israel early Thursday morning when a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip hit a home in the Eshkol regional council near the Palestinian enclave.

The woman was a 30-year-old foreign worker from Thailand. She suffered injuries to her abdomen and limbs. Another person was lightly injured, and several were treated for shock.

Thursday morning's injuries brought the total of wounded on the Israeli side to five in the current cycle of violence.

Rocket barrages by the Hamas terror group continued throughout the night. The military said over 150 rockets and mortar shells were launched at Israeli communities since Wednesday evening. (Read more)

4. Egypt said to warn Hamas: Israel will renew assassinations if fire persists - Times of Israel

Egypt has warned Hamas that Israel will seek to assassinate the terror group's leaders if rocket fire from the Gaza Strip does not cease, according to an Israeli television report on Thursday.

Egyptian intelligence cautioned Hamas that Israel could renew targeted killings if the terror group further exacerbates tensions on the Gaza Strip border, Hadashot television news reported.

Previous media reports in recent months have indicated that Israel conveyed similar threats to Gaza rulers Hamas through Egyptian channels during periods of increased violence on the border. (Read more)

5. Hamas takes advantage of Israeli wariness of military campaign - YNET News

The rocket and mortar shell fire to the western Negev on Wednesday night and Thursday morning proves once again that Hamas is no longer deterred. On the contrary, it's trying to force its own deterrence equation on us.

The reason for this: The State of Israel has managed to convince Hamas that it would do almost anything to avoid sending the IDF into the Gaza Strip for another large-scale military campaign. Government and Cabinet conduct in recent months, IDF actions on the ground, the negotiations with the Egyptians by the Shin Bet director and through the Israeli media-have all made it clear to the Hamas leaders, beyond any doubt, that Israel is willing to take a lot, so long as it doesn't have to launch a wide scale operation.

This desire-justified in and of itself-has in practice become the main objective of Israeli strategy and tactics recently. The government in Jerusalem and the heads of the defense establishment at the Kirya base in Tel Aviv may be constantly declaring that their objective is to reach a stable, long-term calm that provides security and the sense of security to the residents of the western Negev-and they mean what they're saying-but what's happening on the ground makes it absolutely clear to Hamas that the immediate Israeli objective is to prevent another Operation Protective Edge or an even bigger and longer campaign in the strip. 6. Israel May Evacuate Border Towns as Gaza Conflict Escalates, Senior Officer Says - Haaretz

A senior Israeli commander said Thursday morning that the military is nearing launching an operation in the Gaza Strip, not ruling out evacuating communities near the border as the fighting continues.

"We are after another night of escalation, and at this stage we don't see it ending," the officer said.

Referring to negotiations between Hamas and Israel, being mediated by Egypt, the officer said that Hamas "chose to stay away from a deal and it will pay the price for its violations in the last four months." The officer warned Hamas of "suffering a severe blow" if it continues firing rockets. (Read more)

7. Palestinians Say Israel and Hamas Reach Cease-fire; Israel Denies - HAARETZ

Following an escalation in hostilities between Israel and Gaza over the past 24 hours, a foreign diplomat told Haaretz that Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire. According to the diplomat, the cease-fire is not part of a wider agreement being negotiated between the two parties.

Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV channel reported that the cease-fire had taken hold "on the basis of mutual calm." An Egyptian source told Haaretz that the cease-fire took effect at 11 P.M., while Reuters reported that a Palestinian official with knowledge of the talks said the cease-fire would begin at 11:45 P.M. local time.

An Israeli official, however, denied all reports of such an agreement being reached. The conflicting reports came shortly after Israeli security officials said the chances of a full-fledged military operation in the Gaza Strip have decreased. (Read more)

8. BULLETIN! Ground Forces "An Option Which Might Take Place in the Next Few Days" - Breaking Israel News

According to IDF Maj. Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror, the Israeli government is currently deciding whether to go to war with Hamas in light of the escalating tensions. "Although we have only used air force and artillery so far without ground forces, this is an option which might take place in the next few days," he said on a phone conference. "It is clear that a ground forces operation is more complicated, as it would result in many more casualties on both the Palestinian side and the Israeli side."

He told Breaking Israel News, that using accurate intelligence, the IDF will continue to minimize civilian casualties on the Palestinian side. "In some cases, we contact the local people so they understand their area might be bombed by Israel and because of this, there are very few casualties up till now." However, Amidror warned, severe escalation would be problematic, as it would mean more collateral damage. (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. US to impose new Russia sanctions for 'chemical or biological weapons' use against British ex-spy - FoxNews

Russia used "chemical or biological weapons" to try to assassinate a former British spy, the U.S. said on Wednesday, adding that new sanctions would be imposed on the country for the attack.

"Following the use of a 'Novichok' nerve agent in an attempt to assassinate UK citizen Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia Skripal, the United States, on August 6, 2018, determined under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act of 1991 (CBW Act) that the Government of the Russian Federation has used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law or has used lethal chemical or biological weapons against its own nationals," the State Department said in a statement.

"Following a 15-day Congressional notification period, these sanctions will take effect upon publication of a notice in the Federal Register, expected on or around August 22, 2018," the department continued. The sanctions will be applied against all Russian state-owned enterprises, a senior State Department official told Fox News, adding that around 70 percent of the Russian economy would be affected, influencing hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of trade. Both the Russian government and U.S. allies were formally informed of the decision to impose the sanctions on Wednesday, the official said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that these sanctions will hold and will generate their desired effect. In Your Name, amen.

- "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." (John 14:14)

2. GOP Congressman Chris Collins Charged With Insider Trading - Fox News

New York Republican Rep. Christopher Collins has been indicted on insider trading charges, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday. The indictment also names the congressman's son, Cameron Collins, and Stephen Zarsky, the father of his son's fiancée. The fraud counts relate to securities of an Australian biotechnology company called Innate Immunotherapeutics, where the 68-year-old congressman served on the board.

Among the charges, the defendants are accused of multiple counts of securities fraud, along with one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count each of making false statements. All three pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday afternoon.

The Republican congressman, who has served New York's 27th District since 2013, surrendered to federal agents in Manhattan on Wednesday morning and is expected to appear in federal court in lower Manhattan later in the day. Attorneys representing Collins released the following statement on Wednesday: "We will answer the charges filed against Congressman Collins in Court and will mount a vigorous defense to clear his good name. It is notable that even the government does not allege that Congressman Collins traded a single share of Innate Therapeutics stock. We are confident he will be completely vindicated and exonerated."

Collins has a track record of publicly backing Trump, including being one of the first sitting members of Congress to endorse his candidacy. Most recently, Collins called for an end to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into campaign collusion and blamed the Obama administration for failing to push back on Russia. (Read more)

- Father God, as we see the awesome sweep of Your power, now exposing corruption at every level in Washington, D.C., we see that no political party is exempt from this move of cleansing. We ask that justice be rendered for Rep. Collins; that he might be humbled under Your mighty hand in repentance, leading to salvation. In Your name, amen.

- "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"
(Amos 5:24)

3. Scalise Discusses the Latest Threat on His Life: 'No Place for It in Politics' - CNS News

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the House majority whip, said he's relieved that authorities have arrested the 63-year-old New York man who left a threatening voice mail message for the congressman. This comes a little more than a year after Scalise survived an assassination attempt at a congressional baseball practice. "And clearly these kind of disturbing things, there's no place for it in politics," Scalise told Fox News's Laura Ingraham Tuesday night.

"I first want to thank, once again, our United States Capitol Police. They were very quick to act when my office received this threat. They sent the information on to Capitol Police, Capitol Police did research, found out that this man has had some real serious concerns. And it was hard to track him down because he was trying to use aliases. "But ultimately they found him. And he's in custody -- in federal custody. And hopefully he gets a serious sentence because you can't allow this kind of threats and violence against people based on their political views."

Ingraham noted that the violence and intimidation of conservatives "seems to be ratcheting up." She said the left blames President Trump: "No," Scalise said. "You look at some of the liberal rhetoric that's coming out from the left. They're encouraging and inciting, in many cases, violence. And it's got to stop. In fact, liberals need to call this out. They need to speak up, just as we're speaking up, saying is there's no place for it on the Republican and Democrat side. I think people on the left need to be as vocal at calling out this kind of violence." (Read more)

- Father God, we ask that these threats on the life of Rep. Steve Scalise, and every member of Congress, STOP. We cry out to You, Mighty God, for help, in Your name, amen.

- "For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord." (Psalm 27:5,6)

4. US Senate Intelligence Committee calls Julian Assange to testify - WikiLeaks - Blacklisted News

In a letter delivered to Assange at his residence in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, committee chairman Richard Burr (R-North Carolina) requested that Assange make himself available for a closed interview "at a mutually agreeable time and location." WikiLeaks' legal team said that they "are considering the offer but testimony must conform to a high ethical standard."

Assange fled to the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012, seeking asylum from possible extradition to the US, where he faced indictment under the Espionage Act for publishing leaked government documents. Since his de-facto house arrest in the embassy, WikiLeaks has continued to draw controversy, publishing then-candidate Hillary Clinton's emails and leaked emails from the Democratic Party's internal servers in 2016.

Over a month before the Senate Intelligence Committee's letter arrived in London, ten Democrat senators sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence, demanding that he press the Ecuadorian government to revoke Assange's asylum. Pence visited Ecuador shortly after, and met with the country's president, Lenin Moreno. After meeting with Pence, Moreno reportedly mulled evicting Assange from the embassy. Assange had been granted asylum by Moreno's predecessor, and the new president described the Australian journalist as an "inherited problem." (Read more)

- Father God, we ask that truth be released in this hearing.

- " . . . and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (John 8:32)

5. Pro-Life Groups Demand End to Federal Funding for Research Using Aborted Baby Parts - CNS News

Reacting to Tuesday's CNSNews.com report that the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has contracted to obtain "fresh" human fetal tissue to transplant into "humanized mice," pro-life organizations are demanding that the U.S. government terminate funding of research that uses tissue taken from aborted babies.

In fiscal 2018, the NIH-which is a separate entity from the FDA but also a part of the Department of Health and Human Services--estimates it will spend $103 million on human fetal tissue research. In fiscal 2017, it spent $98 million.

In their statements, pro-life organizations called, not just for the termination of this contract, but also for laws prohibiting all such use of taxpayer funds. In July, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill to fund the Department of Health and Human Services that includes language that would prohibit funding for research that uses tissue taken from babies who were aborted.

- Father God, we are sickened just to read this report. Have mercy, O Lord, have mercy! We have no words . . . we have no words. Help us, O Lord we pray, amen.

6. Man arrested at compound was training kids to be school shooters: prosecutors - New York Post

The son of a controversial Brooklyn imam who was arrested for abusing kids at an armed compound in New Mexico last week was training the youngsters to commit school shootings, new court documents allege. Siraj Ibn Wahhaj was running weapons training at the dilapidated desert camp near the Colorado border where 11 starving children were found living in filthy conditions, prosecutors wrote in documents filed Wednesday. Wahhaj is the son of the Brooklyn imam of the same name, who heads the Masjid At-Taqwa in Bedford-Stuyvesant - and was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The younger Wahhaj was arrested last week when sheriffs came looking for his missing 3-year-old son, Abdul-Ghani, but instead found the other children barefoot and dressed in dirty rags.

When authorities arrived, Wahhaj was "heavily armed" with an AR-15 rifle, five 30-round magazines and four loaded pistols, according to Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe. Wahhaj and four other adults from the camp are all facing child abuse charges, while Wahhaj is also accused of child abduction in Georgia. Little Abdul-Ghani was not found at the filthy compound, but authorities say they found the remains of a child who they're still working to identify. (Read more)

- Father God, we praise You that this man and his entire wicked team was apprehended before these murders could take place on these school grounds. We ask for the full weight of our judicial system to fall upon their heads, and for deliverance for these brainwashed children. Thank You, Father, for rescuing us from disaster, in Your Name, amen.

- "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer . . ." (Isaiah 65:24)

7. The unintended target of tax reform: Churches now face 21% penalty - Washington Times

Houses of worship and nonprofit groups are crying foul as they realize that a provision in last year's tax reform law requires them to pay federal taxes on some employee benefits for the first time, a development that could cost them thousands of dollars.

The provision was in the legislation that Congress and President Trump signed in December, but for months it flew under the radar while lawmakers wrestled over the main portion of the law: corporate and individual tax cuts. Now churches, synagogues, universities and nonprofit groups have learned they must pay taxes on employee fringe benefits such as parking and transportation under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. A certain provision calls for a 21 percent tax on some fringe benefits and expenses.

Representatives of D.C. organizations ranging from the Washington Hebrew Congregation to the Washington National Opera said they know about the new tax rule, but scant guidance leaves them with no clue how to calculate what they owe. In a double whammy, a D.C. law requires employers - including nonprofits - to offer commuter transit benefits, but now federal law taxes those required benefits. (Read more)

- Father God, we ask that this provision be appealed to the Supreme Court and cast down. We ask You to forgive those in authority who have allowed this provision to slip through the cracks of the new tax law. In Your Name, amen.

- "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)

8. Anti-Semitism Soars on U.S. College Campuses - Free Beacon

The AMCHA report puts figures to a range of anecdotal and reported conflicts on college campuses across the United States, where anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activity continues to flourish. Pro-Palestinian campus activists continue to aggressively silence those in the Jewish community and foster an unsafe environment for many Jewish students.

"Attempts to ostracize and exclude pro-Israel students and staff became much more flagrant" this year, according to the report. "Incidents including open calls to boycott interaction with or expel actual on-campus students or student groups increased from 3 in 2015 to 4 in 2016 to 14 in 2017, and 18 in the first half of 2018 alone."

"Our examination revealed that Israel-related anti-Semitic incidents were considerably more likely to contribute to a hostile environment for Jewish students than incidents involving classic anti-Semitism, and that anti-Israel campus activities are no longer intent on harming Israel, but increasingly, and alarmingly, they are intent on harming pro-Israel members of the campus community," the organization noted. (Read more)

- O God in Heaven, we repent of this wicked movement on the campuses of the colleges in our nation. We ask that, by Your mighty hand, these millenials be delivered from their deception to the TRUTH - that Israel belongs to You, that the Jews are Your chosen people, and that a blessing will fall upon all who will bless them. Help us, O Lord we pray, in Your name, amen.

- ". . . but deliver us from evil . . ." (Matthew 6:13)

9. Seeking 'WORLD PEACE,' Trump says US won't trade with those who trade with Iran - Times of Israel

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned that any country doing business with Iran will not trade with the US as the first set of US sanctions against Iran that had been eased under the landmark nuclear accord went back into effect. The sanctions, under an executive order signed by Trump, target financial transactions that involve US dollars, Iran's automotive sector, the purchase of commercial planes and metals including gold. More US sanctions targeting Iran's oil sector and central bank are to be reimposed in early November.

The stiff economic sanctions ratchet up pressure on the Islamic Republic despite statements of deep dismay from European allies, three months after Trump pulled the US out of the international accord limiting Iran's nuclear activities. As the sanctions loomed Monday, Trump said in a statement, "We urge all nations to take such steps to make clear that the Iranian regime faces a choice: either change its threatening, destabilizing behavior and reintegrate with the global economy, or continue down a path of economic isolation."

The US has long designated Iran as the world's foremost state sponsor of terrorism, Pompeo noted Sunday, adding that the Islamic Republic cannot expect to be treated as an equal in the international community until it halts such activities. He said that "there's no evidence today of a change in their behavior," and in the meantime "we're going to enforce the sanctions." (Read more)

- Praise God, Father, for President Donald Trump!

- "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord." (Psalm 150:6)

10. Sen. Dianne Feinstein's Ties To China Go Way Deeper Than An Alleged Office Spy - The Federalist

As media, intelligence agency, and political scrutiny of foreign meddling is seemingly at its apex, a story with big national security implications involving a high-ranking senator with access to America's most sensitive intelligence information has been hiding in plain sight. Few American officials could have been as potentially exposed to the PRC's skilled intelligence service as Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA). Here we have not only proof of a spy, but real evidence of consistently pro-Chinese policy that at very best created the appearance of a financial conflict of interest.

Recall that the Chinese regime conducted the cataclysmic U.S. Office of Personnel Management hack, arming it with the most compromising possible information on 21 million government employees and applicants. Then the PRC liquidated America's entire informant network on the Chinese mainland.

Feinstein's dealings with the Chinese must be investigated. But so too ought the links between federal officials and all of our adversaries, be it the Chinese and Russians, the Pakistanis and Iranians, or the Muslim Brotherhood and its state supporters.

We need a top-to-bottom reform of our government's vetting efforts, and enhancement of our counterintelligence capabilities. Attempts by foreign countries to infiltrate our political offices pose a grave national security threat, as Feinstein's record clearly shows. With people like her on pertinent congressional committees, however, how many foxes have been elected to guard the henhouse? Representatives' responses to reform measures will help us find out. (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank You that more details are now emerging about this case. We ask that a spirit of repentance would fall upon Senator Feinstein in the wake of this wrongdoing . . . leading to her repentance, and to salvation through Your Shed Blood. We praise You, O Lord, amen.

- "For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light." (Mark 4:22 NLT)

Taking Back the High Ground

How is it that those who hate anybody who disagree with them have the moral high ground in labeling people bigots, hate mongers, homophobes, Islamophobes, misogynists, racists, xenophobes, Nazis or whatever? If you profess Christianity or conservatism, you are automatically thrust into one or more of these categories. In fact, you will be accused of doing the same type of hatemongering that the accusers are doing against you. Yet they seem to get away with it as if they are the moral authority. This is no less than political intolerance and ideological bigotry. Christianity has nothing to do with these traits. Nevertheless, Christians are painted with a broad brush of prejudice. We need to take back the high ground.

As we journey toward the Day of the Lord, Christ himself says that things will get worse for Christians. He said in Matthew 24:9-10, "Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another." This is the way of the world. Even in a nation where the very First Amendment to the Constitution underscores freedom of religion and free speech, Christians have become demonized as uneducated knuckle-draggers that cling to their guns and Bibles. Christians, however, are not out there bullying and killing people who don't believe the way they do.

In Christianity there is no racism, bigotry, hate, misogyny or other "phobes." We are to hate sin and stand against evil. In this day and age when everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes, people do not recognize bible-based morals and ethics. They believe them to be old-fashioned and not relevant to modern society. Even many Christians look the other way on some of the current mores of society that are in conflict with Holy Scripture. When so much is against us, how then do we take back the high ground? It seems that we can appeal to some by asking questions about certain biblical principles (without calling them that) that will either make them think or find points of agreement.

Additionally, our example of living speaks volumes. People will know us by our deeds and the spirit in which we conduct ourselves. Remember the Apostle Paul's approach in 1 Corinthians 9:19-22, "For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." Using this approach, we may save some; we may begin taking back the high ground. Food for thought.

Israel Anti-Boycott Act

ALERT!

Urge Senate to Pass Israel Anti-Boycott Act (S. 720)

For many years Israel has been singled out by the UN and other international governmental agencies with a goal to isolate the Jewish State. Through the Boycott Divestment they hope to dramatically impact Israel's economy. Our Congress has thankfully had a history of standing with Israel to combat this political, economic attack.

A bipartisan bill, authored by Sens. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Rob Portman (R-OH), recently modified The Israel Anti-Boycott Act (S. 720) bill to strengthen First Amendment protections. As written it would expand existing U.S. anti-boycott laws to include international organizations like the U.N. and the European Union.

More than half the Senate has already cosponsored this legislation, which would help protect U.S. companies and combat efforts by international organizations-including the U.N.-to boycott Israel. Nothing in this bill restricts constitutionally protected free speech. The bill only regulates commercial conduct as it relates to boycotts sponsored by international organizations.

Urge your Senators to cosponsor the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, a bipartisan bill that protects U.S. companies and opposes global efforts to boycott Israel.
To find your Senator and contact information go here.
Simple example script: "I am calling Senator (your senator) to urge him/her to cosponsor the bipartisan Israel Anti-Boycott Act if he/she has not done so. It sends an important message to the United Nations and other international governmental organizations that this nation will not tolerate any form of economic coercion against U.S."

The Space Force

Vice President Pence Calls for Space Force to be Established by 2020

"Vice President Pence called Thursday for America to assert its dominance in space," Adam Shaw reports for Fox News-"and revealed the Trump administration wants to create the 'Space Force' by 2020."

In a speech to the Defense Department, he said that countries such as Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are pursuing ways to "bring new weapons of war into space itself."

"As their actions make clear, our adversaries have transformed space into a warfighting domain already and the United States will not shrink from this challenge," the Vice President said in a speech at the Pentagon today.

. . . "Creating a new branch of the military is not a simple process. It will require collaboration, diligence, and above all leadership. As challenges arise and deadlines approach, there must be someone in charge who can execute, hold others accountable, and be responsible for the results," he said. (Read more)
- Lord God, we have now learned from other sources that our enemies are using weapons in outer space against us. Some are even stating that the fires in California may have been caused by these weapons . . .

We thank You for the fact that President Trump has taken the lead on this matter, and we ask for swift passage, funding and implementation of this new branch of our military, in Your name, amen.

Important Message from Dr. Alveda King!

Important Message from Dr. Alveda King!

"'President Trump Turns Out to Be a Samson!'
Alveda King Asks for Prayer after 'Hot Meeting' in the White House"

Dr. Alveda King, Atlanta, GA

Talk about a long hot summer . . . Since my recent visit to the White House on August 1, 2018, the heat has been turned up. Being a part of the group present for an update on President Trump's prison reform agenda has caused a firestorm in many circles, to say the least.

I Timothy 2:1-2 "Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."
At the meeting on August 1, the President focused on prison reform and urban initiatives. The session was very encouraging as we received updates on Executive Orders regarding prison reform, the job market and job readiness, aide to foreign nations, life and more . . . President Trump was very interactive with those around the table. His empowerment agenda is backed by a solid team which includes strong voices in the faith community. As evidenced in his quotes below, President Trump's position on faith is very clear:
"We will be one people, under one God, saluting one American flag."

"We will say Merry Christmas again!"

"Our republic was formed on the basis that freedom is not a gift from government. Freedom is a gift from God."

"Faith is more powerful than government, and nothing is more powerful than God."

"Across our land, we see the splendor of God's creation. Throughout our history, we see the story of God's providence. And in every city and town, we see the Lord's grace all around us, through a million acts of kindness, courage and generosity. We love God".

Capital Prayer Alert

Capital Prayer Alert: The Month of August

Written by Carol Bauer

As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. I hope you will share Carol's thoughts with your friends and fellow worshipers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. --Gary Bauer

The waning days of summer are upon us. Back to school items overflow in the aisles of stores, the summer heat is wilting the few flowers in the garden, kids are becoming bored with unstructured time and the midterm elections are less than three months away. It feels a bit like the roller coaster slowly inching its way to the top of that first dramatic hill with the ominous clicking sound in the background. Once the top is reached, it's a wild and unpredictable ride!

Looking to the coming months it feels like a wild ride ahead. There is great news on economic growth and employment. There has been an impressive drop in food stamp participation. Optimism in the general population and increasing job opportunities available even to those who have been out of the work force for an extended period of time would seem to point to an overall rosy picture for the country.

And yet, there is real unease. Police shootings are up, increasing efforts to divide us are everywhere and civil political discourse is becoming hard to find. Very disturbing are the too numerous examples of efforts by social media giants to shut down or limit the access of conservative voices. Add to that the activities of Antifa and even some more mainstream voices who seek to shut down opposing views and you have a volatile and dangerous mix.

Those of us who are animated by our faith and our belief in time-tested American ideals should be called to stand firm in the midst of what could be seen as both a challenging time and a real opportunity. We must speak truth in a world that needs clarity. We must engage the culture where we can make a difference and do so with confidence and facts on our side. And we must bolster the efforts of one another to do the same.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, give us a sense of peace amidst the divisions we see around us. Remind us of the eternal truths and certainties which you embody. Fill us with confidence and give us joy in the journey through daily challenges. As we have opportunities to interact with family, neighbors and friends, open our eyes to see and understand the challenges others face and prompt us to be part of a useful dialogue.

Lord, give us strength to stand for what is right and true, the confidence to express it to others and the insight to recognize when our voices are being shut out or shut down. Give us courage to speak, write and influence.

Scientists Claim to Have Solved the Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle

British oceanographers from the University of Southampton believe the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle has been busted. After an investigation lasting decades, they've concluded that ships are being sucked into the ocean by "rogue waves" over 30 metres in height.

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a stretch of water between the southernmost tip of Florida, Puerto Rico, and the island of Bermuda to the north. The Triangle has featured in the public imagination since the early 1900s, when media first started running reports on the area's unusual tally of shipwrecks. An article in The New York Times claimed that over the past 500 years the Triangle has claimed at least 50 ships and 20 aircraft.

Dozens of theories have been offered over the years, but this latests one involving waves was first proffered in 1995, when a freak wave of 18.5 metres was measured in the North Sea by satellites. The so-called Draupner Wave was the first time scientists had recorded a "rogue wave," at a time when rogue waves were considered just as mythical as the Bermuda Triangle.

So what are rogue waves? Basically, they're abnormally large and unexpected waves in open sea. According to a study on Freak Waves, a standard-issue large wave of around 12 metres will have a breaking pressure of 8.5 psi. Modern ships are designed to tolerate a breaking wave of 21 psi, but a rogue wave can deliver a crushing 140 psi, grossly exceeding the limits of what ships are expected to tolerate.

Dr Simon Boxall, an Oceanographer from the University of Southampton who led the new study, explained on a Channel 5 documentary The Bermuda Triangle Enigma: "there are storms to the South and North, which come together... we've measured waves in excess of 30 metres. The bigger the boat gets, the more damage is done."

His team re-created the intense surges of the 30 metre waves by using indoor simulators. Then to see what such a wave would do to a large ship, they built a model of the USS Cyclops, a carrier that went missing in the Bermuda Triangle in 1918 and claimed the lives of 309 people.

"If you can imagine a rogue waves with peaks at either end, there's nothing below the boat, so it snaps in two. If it happens, it can sink in two to three minutes," explained Dr Simon Boxall. (Read more)

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
