The Ministerial on Religious Freedom

State Dept.'s Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom Could be a Turning Point for Millions

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2018 -- Today, the State Department will host the first-ever "Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom". The event will be held July 24 -- 26, bringing together government officials, representatives of international organizations, religious leaders, rights advocates, and members of civil society organizations from around the world.

Coinciding with the Ministerial, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) will host a reception at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) on Wednesday, July 25, in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA). On Thursday, July 26, USCIRF will also host a grant workshop for civil society organizations seeking to learn how to apply for U.S. government funding.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, who also serves on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, will attend the Ministerial and offered the following comments:
"Three months into his new job as secretary, Mike Pompeo has put his stamp on plenty of foreign policy. But this decision to bring the world together on one of the greatest human rights crises of our time could be a turning point for millions of people. Considering that religious freedom cuts against instability and decreases the likelihood of terrorism, everyone in the world has a stake in the Ministerial succeeding.

"Of course, just because leaders sit down and talk about it doesn't mean the problem of religious persecution will just magically disappear. But it could go a long way to starting a dialogue in some countries that, until now, have been very unwilling to discuss the topic.

"After the eight years of the Obama administration, we're more appreciative than ever for President Trump's emphasis on religious liberty. With all of the issues competition for the world's attention, Americans are grateful the White House isn't overlooking one of the most important," concluded Perkins.

- Father, we are grateful for President Trump, Secretary Pompeo and Ambassador Brownback's dedication to religious freedom and its' importance around the world. May these efforts through the Ministerial produce real action to expand religious freedom and protect religious minorities in every nation.

- Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. (Isaiah 60:1-3)

Focus on Israel

1. Netanyahu accuses Erdogan of 'massacring Syrians and Kurds' - YNET News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday rebuked Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, accusing him of massacring Syrians and Kurds after Erdogan strongly criticized Israel.

Erdogan said the new Nationality Law, which declares that only Jews have the right of self-determination in Israel, legitimized oppression and showed that Israel is a fascist and racist country.

Netanyahu replied: "Erdogan is massacring the Syrians and the Kurds and is jailing thousands of his own people. This great democrat's criticism of the Nationality Law is the greatest compliment it could be paid."

2. Erdogan: 'Spirit of Hitler' apparent in 'fascist' Israel's nation-state law - Times of Israel

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday branded Israel the "most fascist, racist state" in the world after Israel's Knesset passed a new law defining the country as the nation state of the Jewish people. "This measure has shown without leaving the slightest room for doubt that Israel is the world's most Zionist, fascist and racist state," Erdogan said in a speech to his ruling party.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promptly responded to Erdogan's comments, saying Turkey is now living under a "dark dictatorship."

3. IDF shoots down Syrian fighter jet that entered Israeli airspace - Times of Israel

The Israeli Air Force shot down a Syrian fighter jet that traveled two kilometers into Israeli airspace on Tuesday afternoon, the military said. Syrian state-run media confirmed the jet was shot down but said it was inside its own airspace.

"Two Patriot missiles were fired at a Syrian Sukhoi-model fighter jet," the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.

The IDF said the aircraft was monitored as it approached the border with the Golan Heights.

4. IDF after downing plane: We warned Syria against entering Israeli airspace - Times of Israel

The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday said it had repeatedly warned Syria against flying aircraft close to the border before shooting down a fighter jet that the military claims traveled two kilometers into Israeli territory.

"We issued numerous warnings through numerous channels and in various languages to make sure that no one on the other side violates Israeli airspace or threatens Israeli civilians or sovereignty," IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus told reporters. According to the Israeli military, a Syrian Sukhoi fighter jet entered Israeli airspace over the Golan Heights on Tuesday afternoon, traveling approximately two kilometers (one mile) before it was shot down by two Israeli Patriot interceptor missiles.

1. Ahead of big GDP report, Trump says US has 'best financial numbers on the planet' - CNBC

With the release of second-quarter growth numbers just three days away, President Donald Trump is enthusiastic about growth, to say the least. While not mentioning the upcoming gross domestic product report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Trump indicated in a tweet Tuesday that the economy is powering along. Economists expect GDP to have grown 3.8 percent in the second quarter, after a 2 percent increase for the first three months of the year and a 2.3 percent gain for all of 2017.

If the FactSet estimate is correct, that would be the fastest growth since the third quarter of 2014, when GDP rose 5.2 percent. The Trump administration has set at least 3 percent growth as a target, a number the U.S. economy has not hit since the Great Recession for a full calendar year. Trump's top economic advisor, Larry Kudlow, said during last week's Delivering Alpha conference that the economy could grow ahead of 4 percent for "a quarter or two" before cooling off. (Read more)

- Father, we are so thankful for the abundance in our economy. Lord, we pray each person will act upon new opportunities, improving their lives and families.

- I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me. Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness. (Proverbs 8:17-18)

2. FISA Applications Confirm: The FBI Relied on the Unverified Steele Dossier - National Review (Andrew McCarthy)

On a sleepy summer Saturday, after months of stonewalling, the FBI dumped 412 pages of documents related to the Carter Page FISA surveillance warrants - the applications, the certifications, and the warrants themselves. Now that we can see it all in black and white - mostly black, as they are heavily redacted - it is crystal clear that the Steele dossier, an unverified Clinton-campaign product, was the driving force behind the Trump-Russia investigation.

Based on the dossier, the FBI told the FISA court it believed that Carter Page, who had been identified by the Trump campaign as an adviser, was coordinating with the Russian government in an espionage conspiracy to influence the 2016 election.

This sensational allegation came from Christopher Steele, the former British spy. The FISA court was not told that the Clinton campaign was behind Steele's work. Nor did the FBI and Justice Department inform the court that Steele's allegations had never been verified. To the contrary, each FISA application - the original one in October 2016, and the three renewals at 90-day intervals - is labeled "VERIFIED APPLICATION" (bold caps in original). And each one makes this breathtaking representation:

The FBI has reviewed this verified application for accuracy in accordance with its April 5, 2001 procedures, which include sending a copy of the draft to the appropriate field office(s). In reality, the applications were never verified for accuracy. In my public comments Sunday morning, I observed that the newly disclosed FISA applications are so shoddy that the judges who approved them ought to be asked some hard questions. (Read more)

- Father, we pray many more honest reporters will view this evidence of malfeasance and fulfill their journalistic duty to inform the public. We pray for the momentum to complete these investigations and expose all wrongdoing.

- The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous, but is terror to the workers of iniquity. (Proverbs 21:15)

3. Declassify House Russia hacking report, Nunes demands - Washington Times

A House committee wants intelligence agencies to declassify the censored parts of its final report on Moscow election interference in light of the fact that special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment this month of 12 Russians contains some of the same information. It marks a new fight between Rep. Devin Nunes, California Republican and committee chairman, and the intelligence bureaucracy over the contested issue of disclosing as much information as possible on the ongoing Trump-Russia probe.

In another scuffle, Mr. Nunes is going eye-to-eye with the Justice Department over his request for more documents on how the FBI began its counterintelligence probe into the Trump campaign and the use of confidential human sources, or spies. In the Russia indictment, the intelligence community apparently allowed Mr. Mueller to release the same sensitive information it had blocked in the House Republican majority report, according to congressional sources.

Mr. Nunes sees his committee's final report as a vindication since, he says, it mirrors what Mr. Mueller put in the indictment. "And then it looks like all you did, all that Mueller did, was validate our report, indict some Russians and leave out, I think, some very pertinent, relative evidence that the American public should see, which is why we continue to have to fight," he said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these documents Chairman Nunes wishes to declassify and unredact will be fully revealed to the public.

- But I have made Esau bare; I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself. His descendants are plundered, His brethren and his neighbors, and he is no more. (Jeremiah 49:10)

4. Sanders Says Trump 'Looking Into' Revoking Security Clearances of Brennan, Comey and Clapper - CNS News

During Monday's White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked about Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) suggestion that former CIA Chief John Brennan's security clearance be removed. Sanders confirmed that the president is looking into revoking the security clearance of Brennan, as well as former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Director James Comey, and former Bush CIA Director Michael Hayden.

"The president is exploring the mechanisms to remove security clearance, because they politicize and in some cases monetize their public service and security clearances," Sanders said. "Making baseless accusations of improper contact with Russia or being influenced by Russia against the president is extremely inappropriate, and the fact that people with security clearances are making these baseless charges provides inappropriate legitimacy to accusations with zero evidence," she added. (Read more)

- Father, we ask for stronger safeguards around access to classified information and we pray the security clearance for these individuals who have abused the privilege will have it revoked.

- A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter. (Proverbs 11:13)

5. Rand's Reservations: Why Paul Is Skeptical Of The Kavanaugh Pick - Daily Caller

GOP Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has expressed serious misgivings about Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, offering the most blunt critiques of Kavanaugh yet to emerge in the Republican caucus. Though the senator says he is genuinely undecided with respect to his confirmation and promises to approach the matter with an open mind, Paul is concerned with Kavanaugh's views on the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures.

Civil libertarians of the Paul variety are particularly troubled by a short concurring opinion Kavanaugh wrote in a case called Klayman v. Obama, a challenge to the National Security Agency's metadata collection program. Kavanaugh's brief opinion argued that metadata capture was consistent with existing Supreme Court precedent. He cited the 1979 Smith v. Maryland decision, a landmark ruling that allows government to access records held by a third-party - like telephone companies - without a warrant.

Still, the senator will meet with Kavanaugh on Tuesday and is willing to extend the judge some latitude, given President Donald Trump's record on judicial selection. Speaking at the White House Monday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the administration is optimistic that Paul will ultimately vote in Kavanaugh's favor. "We're certainly hopeful that Senator Paul will do the right thing and vote to confirm this highly-qualified nominee," Sanders said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these concerns by Senator Paul will be thoroughly vetted. We lift up Brett Kavanaugh and pray he will become the next Supreme Court justice only if it is Your perfect will.

- I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10)

6. Federal Court Reins in Rogue Agency, Hands Trump a Win - CNS News/Daily Signal

President Donald Trump will soon be able to use his famous catch phrase ('You're fired") against the head of a troubled federal agency, the Fair Housing Finance Agency, which is led by a single Obama appointee with no meaningful oversight from the president. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this week that the agency's structure is unconstitutional.

Congress designed the Fair Housing Finance Agency to be a politically independent entity empowered to create and enforce rules, while also overseeing operations at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and nursing them back to financial health. But Congress also adopted some specific provisions that made the agency partisan and unaccountable to the president-unconstitutionally so, according to the 5th Circuit's opinion.

In this case, the court found that Congress insulated the Fair Housing Finance Agency too much from "meaningful executive oversight," to the point that the president "could not fulfill his Article II responsibility to ensure the faithful execution of the nation's laws, thus undermining the separation of powers." At the 5th Circuit's direction, the district court will now have to strike the provision of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 that limits the president's power to fire the Fair Housing Finance Agency director, thus "restoring executive branch oversight to the [agency]."

- Father, we are grateful for the reforms implemented by the Trump Administration. Help him trim our federal workforce by continuing to eliminate areas of duplication, waste, fraud and abuse.

- And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called 'benefactors.' But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. (Luke 22:25-26)

7. Democrats outpace Republicans, rake in cash in heartland in bid to retake House - Washington Times

Democratic House candidates in the country's heartland are raking in the cash, outpacing Republicans in fundraising in many key races and putting the party on solid ground to reclaim the chamber in this year's congressional elections. Fueled by anti-Trump grass-roots energy and a crop of good candidates, Democrats outperformed their Republican counterparts in Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota and Texas races during the all-important April to June fundraising period.

It's the mirror image of 2010, when Republicans led the money battle against Democratic incumbents in 44 races at this point, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and went on to win 40 seats, flipping control of the House. "At this point in time in 2018, the numbers indicate, I think, that there are as many as 55 to 57 Democratic candidates that outraised Republicans," DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Lujan told The Washington Times. "That shows an advantage not just with fundraising, but also with the grass-roots operations they are running." Democrats need to flip control of 23 seats to win back the House. (Read more)

- Father, we lift up our elections this fall and pray for true servants of the people to be elected to each office throughout the land. We pray for Your Spirit to guide each voter and for Your peace to envelop the results.

- He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. (Daniel 2:21)

8. Steve Bannon's new mission: Paralyze E.U. - WND

Former President Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon is taking his anti-establishment political activism across the Atlantic to battle the European Union. Along with Raheem Kassam, a former chief aide to British anti-EU leader Nigel Farage, Bannon has created a Brussels-based political organization intended to undermine and ultimately paralyze the EU, he told Reuters. Kassam said The Movement is "our clearing house for the populist, nationalist movement in Europe."

"We're focusing attention on assisting individuals or groups concerned with the matters of sovereignty, border control, jobs, amongst other things," he told Reuters. "We decided to headquarter out of Brussels because it is the heart of the European Union - the most pernicious force against nation state democracy in the West today."

- Father, we lift up the peoples of Europe. We pray for a renewal of their Christian heritage - truly You are the answer to every problem they have. Help them remove migrants who intend harm and effectively minister to those who integrate into their nations.

- Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men (Psalms 140:1)

9. North Korea Begins Dismantling Key Facilities at the Sohae Satellite Launching Station - 38 North

In an important first step towards fulfilling a commitment made by Kim Jong Un at the June 12 Singapore Summit, new commercial satellite imagery of the Sohae Satellite Launching Station (North Korea's main satellite launch facility since 2012) indicates that the North has begun dismantling key facilities. Most notably, these include the rail-mounted processing building-where space launch vehicles are prepared before moving them to the launch pad-and the nearby rocket engine test stand used to develop liquid-fuel engines for ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles. Since these facilities are believed to have played an important role in the development of technologies for the North's intercontinental ballistic missile program, these efforts represent a significant confidence building measure on the part of North Korea.

Commercial satellite imagery of the launch pad from July 20 shows that the rail-mounted processing/transfer structure has been moved to the middle of the pad, exposing the underground rail transfer point-one of the few times it has been seen in this location. The roof and supporting structure have been partially removed and numerous vehicles are present-including a large construction crane. An image from two days later shows the continued presence of the crane and vehicles. Considerable progress has been made in dismantling the rail-mounted processing/transfer structure. One corner has been completely dismantled and the parts can be seen lying on the ground. In both images the two fuel/oxidizer bunkers, main processing building and gantry tower remain untouched. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your blessing to follow these positive actions by Kim Jong Un and his regime. Prepare his heart and the hearts of the North Korean people to receive a new life of freedom and understanding of You.

- Is it not yet a very little while till Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be esteemed as a forest? In that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.
(Isaiah 29:17-18)

10. Experts: China Waging War Against the U.S. - FreeBeacon

China is waging war against the United States through a far-reaching foreign influence operations campaign that has raised concerns of spying and technology theft, according to regional experts.

In testimony before the House Intelligence Committee last week, James Phillips, chairman and CEO of NanoMench Inc., warned the Chinese government is subtly exploiting America's open innovation model to steal business secrets and academic research, posing a greater national security threat than the much-publicized actions by Russia. "We need to quit talking about Russia," Phillips said. "There's a real war going on-it's a cyber war like never before, where they're invading the United States every day trying to take over the United States in terms of our science and technology. If they're not stealing it they're imitating it, or they're trying to get it through other means."

"We're publishing our very best science out of our universities, national labs onto the internet, giving it free to countries like China," Phillips said. "It just doesn't make any sense to the extent that that could be moved from ideation to invention to innovation to full execution commercialization and we could have the lead on innovation, not only now, but on a permanent basis and all that translates to GDP. The winner is not going to be through wars anymore, it's going to be through GDP-the country with the best jobs and the most jobs."

U.S. intelligence officials have warned for years of Beijing's emergence as a major strategic competitor that is seeking to supplant the United States as an economic and military powerhouse. During a security conference in Aspen, Colo., last week, FBI Director Christopher Wray called China the "most significant" long-term threat to the country, noting the bureau is pursuing Chinese-linked economic espionage investigations in all 50 states. Mainstream America the hope of a nation

Tuesday, July 24, 2018

There are many people predicting civil war in the United States. Others ponder the possibility that the nation already is under a massive coup attempt by leftist forces that include the Democratic Party and its allies in the mainstream media. Notwithstanding the ferocious and relentless attack on the office of the President since before he took office, the vicious narrative fomented by the left, the verbal and physical attacks on those supporting the current President, and the fake news emanating from those collective attacks almost prove the point that America is being torn apart by a civil war and a coup attempt. The louder the visceral, the harder it is to see the true America.

Last weekend, I attended my 45th high school class reunion. I hadn't seen some of these folks since graduating in 1973. It further impressed upon me why Ohio is such a bellwether for predicting who wins presidential elections. While our school was not racially diverse, it was diverse in other ways. Our school was a mixture of farmers, factory workers, service providers, government employees, small business owners, professionals and executives. They are Democrat, Republican, Independent and probably apolitical. There are diverse interests from car racing to horses to dogs to sports to food (especially food). There is a wide range of financial status. And when we get together, there is diverse conversation.

This is mainstream America. These are the quiet people who love their families, do their jobs, enjoy their downtime, and believe in the American dream. They don't meddle in other people's business. They treat others as they would like to be treated. In talking with them, politics was not at the center of the conversations. But it did come up in very respectful and thoughtful ways. I observed that the vast majority of my classmates love their country. They may have differing opinions on how to solve its problems, but they respect one another's opinion and are willing to listen to it. Many of them, in fact, most, are skeptical of the mainstream media. Some don't even watch the news because they don't know what to believe.

These Ohio men and women are real people. They are not radicals. They have a stake in the country. They want the best for their children and grandchildren. They are willing to give a chance to whatever President is voted into office. They don't appreciate being labeled if they disagree. They are not hostile, but they will get their backs up if pushed into it. They are the salt of the earth who stand in the breech between liberty and tyranny. This is the America that the radicals both despise and misunderstand. As Christ said in Matthew 5:37, "But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no: for whatever is more than these comes of evil." You will always know where you stand with them. Getting together with these folks renewed my hope in the American ideal. There are more of us than there are the radicals. We are not as loud, but we are more resolved.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government.
