And smoking flax He will not quench;

1. Israel rejects Russian offer to keep Iran 100 km from Syrian border - Times of Israel

Israel has rejected a Russian proposal to keep Iranian forces in Syria 100 kilometers (62 miles) away from Israel's northern border, a senior Israeli official said Monday, moments after a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu concluded in Jerusalem.

Israel is sticking to its demand that Iran not be allowed any military foothold in Syria, the official stressed. Israel is furthermore demanding that all long-range missiles be removed from the war-torn country and that any factories producing precision-guided missiles there be shut, the official said.

Additionally, Jerusalem has asked Moscow to guarantee that all air-defense systems that protect the aforementioned arms be taken out of Syria. Lastly, Israel requested the closing of border crossings between Syria and Lebanon and between Syria and Iraq, to prevent Iranian weapons being smuggled into Syria.

2. In operational debut, David's Sling defense system fires at missiles launched in Syria - Israel Hayom

Israel's David's Sling air defense system made its operational debut Monday, when an interceptor missile was launched as a precaution against ballistic missiles fired within neighboring Syria, the military said.

Projectiles fired as part of internal fighting between the Syrian army and rebel forces in southwest Syria triggered early warning sirens in northern Israel, but were unlikely to have been aimed at Israeli targets, the IDF statement stressed.

An initial investigation into the incident revealed that the missiles had been fired at Israel's direction and the defense system identified their trajectory as being on track to strike within Israeli territory.

The David's Sling operators had an extremely short time to decide whether or not to launch an interceptor, and decided to intercept. Ultimately, the projectiles are believed to have hit about 1 kilometer inside Syria.

3. Ancient boulder dislodges from Western Wall, crashes down near woman at prayer- Times of Israel

A large boulder from the Western Wall was dislodged from the ancient structure on Monday morning, tumbling down onto an egalitarian prayer platform.

There were no injuries in the incident near Robinson's Arch, south of the main prayer plaza, but the rock landed very close to a female worshiper.

"I didn't hear or feel anything until it landed right at my feet, " said Daniella Goldberg, 79. She said she was praying at the site, as she does regularly, when suddenly the boulder crashed down. She told Hadashot TV news she "tried not to let the incident distract me from my prayers" and refused to be drawn on whether divine providence had spared her. "May we all be blessed," she said.

4. From God? Huge Stone Falls From Kotel - Breaking Israel News

A massive boulder that was part of the Western Wall suddenly became dislodged on Monday morning and fell onto a platform used for egalitarian prayers. No injuries were reported though one woman is seen in a video standing very near to where the boulder fell. Israel Radio reported that the stone weighed about 220 pounds.

Police closed off the area, known as the Robinson's Arch platform, which is directly south from the Western Wall Plaza. Israel Antiquities Authority archeologists are investigating the incident.

The platform is one of two used for egalitarian prayer services in which men and women pray together. Halacha (Torah law) requires that a physical barrier separate men from women during prayer is such a manner that the men will not be able to see the women.

5. Bennet After U.N.- Meeting: Israel Must Avoid Iran Driven Two-Front War- Jerusalem Post

Iran must not be allowed to drag Israel into a war on both its southern and northern borders, Education Minister Naftali Bennett said after he met Monday morning with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov.

Tehran sits at the head of an eight tentacled octopus that is responsible for the violence on Israel's Gaza, Lebanese and Syrian borders, said Bennett, who is a member of Israel's security cabinet.

"Iran's goal is to simultaneously entangle Israel on many fronts," Bennett tweeted after his meeting with Mladenov.

"My opinion is that Iran is stirring trouble to alleviate multiple pressures. Israel should avoid dual Iranian-driven fronts. Ground Op in Gaza only as very last resort," Bennett said.

The Daily Brief

1. Rand Paul calls to revoke John Brennan's security clearance, asks if he's 'monetizing' access- Fox News

Sen. Rand Paul called Monday for President Trump to revoke former CIA director John Brennan's security clearance, as he questioned whether the Obama-era spy boss was "monetizing" his access to sensitive information in his new role as a pundit.

"Is John Brennan monetizing his security clearance? Is John Brennan making millions of dollars divulging secrets to the mainstream media with his attacks on @realDonaldTrump?" Paul tweeted early Monday.

Brennan joined NBC News and MSNBC in February as a contributor and senior national security and intelligence analyst. A spokesperson for the networks did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment on Paul's tweet, which did not list any specific allegations.

The Kentucky Republican, who last week jumped to Trump's defense as the president faced bipartisan criticism over his summit and press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed up the original tweet by saying:

"Today I will meet with the President and I will ask him to revoke John Brennan's security clearance!"

2. Dramatic Rise in Anti-Trump Idolatry Setting Stage for End-of-Days Showdown Between Good and Evil- JewsNewsIL

Sales of tarot cards have risen sharply in the last year as self-proclaimed witches claim that divination and dark-magic are effective in opposing President Trump. One end-of-days expert cites this as an illogical yet divinely guided step in setting the stage for the Messianic showdown in which the two sides, Good and Evil, are clearly defined.

The BBC published an article last week noting a 30-percent increase in sales in tarot cards last year, citing data collected by US Games Systems, a publisher of tarot games. Tarot may be a modern trend but it's roots are ancient, with some sources claiming the deck has its origins in the Book of Thoth, a legendary tome of Egyptian occult and idolatry. Based on four suits, tarot cards are similar to common playing cards but with some significant differences that serve its primary purpose: divination.

The Latin root of the word 'divination' means "to foresee, to be inspired by a god," but the Torah expressly forbids the practice.

Let no one be found among you who consigns his son or daughter to the fire, or who is an augur, a soothsayer, a diviner, a sorcerer. Deuteronomy 18:10

3. Toronto shooting rampage leaves 2 dead, 12 hurt; gunman dead after firing into restaurants- Fox News

Terrorism was not being ruled out as a motive after a gunman fired into packed Toronto restaurants and cafes Sunday, killing two people and injuring 12 others before dying in a gun battle with police, officials said.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit said in a news release two people were killed by a man who "fired shots at groups of people several times" while walking along Danforth Avenue.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said cops were investigating "every possible motive, including terrorism."

4. Trump warns Iran's Rouhani to stop the threats or suffer historic consequences- Fox News

President Trump late Sunday tweeted out to Iranian President Rouhani to never threaten the U.S. again or face historic consequences.

The tweet came on the heels of Rouhani's warning to Trump that hostile policies could lead to the "mother of all wars" with Iran.

Trump called for Rouhani to stop the rhetoric or--in caps lock-- "suffer the consequences the like of which few throughout history have ever suffered before. We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence and death. Be cautious!"

5. "Landmark Resolution To Protect Children from Unsuitable Content -- Passed by Republican National Committee" - Education Views

A landmark Resolution supporting parental rights was unanimously adopted this week by the Republican National Committee. Cynthia Dunbar, National Committeewoman for Virginia and sponsor of the Resolution stated, "I'm thrilled we were able to get this Resolution adopted. This should not be a partisan issue. Parents everywhere deserve the right to know what their children are being taught and have an opportunity to consent to it. 6. Trump Tweets Cohen Taping 'Perhaps Illegal' but Denies Own Wrongdoing- Newsmax

President Donald Trump early Saturday, in an apparent reference to news that his former attorney Michael Cohen had taped a conversation with him concerning payments to a former Playboy model, tweeted that the action was "perhaps illegal," but denied any wrongdoing on his own part.

He also called raids of Cohen's home, office and hotel room earlier this year "inconceivable" and "almost unheard of."

7. Currency War Erupts, Threatening to Ripple Across Global Markets - Newsmax

The currency war has arrived.

So say some of the best and brightest in the $5.1 trillion-per-day foreign-exchange market. U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday accused China and the European Union of "manipulating their currencies and interest rates lower." The comments came after the yuan plunged to its lowest level in a year, with little sign of China's central bank intervening to stem the slide. They also follow a decline in the euro this year and add to the calculus that European Central Bank policy makers might need to consider when they meet next week.

8. Dems' Tactic Echoes Clinton Operatives: Stall Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation by Demanding Documents - Breitbart

Brian Fallon, the head of Demand Justice, a new progressive activist group established to play a vital role in opposing President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, took to CNN immediately after Trump announced his pick earlier this month to spell out the group's battle plan against the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fallon, who served as press secretary for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, outlined tactics to be used in an attempt to stall Kavanaugh's confirmation pending the release and full review of the thousands of pages of the Starr Report, which documented the case to impeach President Clinton and was drafted in part by Kavanaugh.

Now it seems Democrats are following through, with the Associated Press reporting on Friday that Democrats are "demanding to see the conservative appellate court judge's lengthy paper trail before they even start meeting with him, let alone casting their votes on a lifetime appointment that could shift the court rightward."

9. Surveillance images show gunman behind George H.W. Bush's former doctor moments before murder- Fox News

Houston police released surveillance images Sunday showing a gunman trailing behind George H.W. Bush's former cardiologist moments before the doctor was shot and killed while biking to work - clues authorities hope will help nab the killer.

The images taken from surveillance cameras in the area show Dr. Mark Hausknecht biking across an intersection while a man trails behind and eventually approaches him. Police said Hausknecht was shot and killed moments later, about one block away.

Another image shows a man heading west on Southgate Boulevard and Travis Street shortly after the deadly shooting.

The images comes a day after police released a sketch of a man they believe is the gunman. Authorities are also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The 65-year-old doctor was heading to work at the Texas Medical Center when he was shot at least twice at 9 a.m. Friday morning, police said. Hausknecht dropped to the ground immediately while the gunman fled the scene on a light-colored mountain bike, police said.

Witnesses told police the shooter was a clean-shaven man who is about 30 years old, 5-foot-10 with a slender build. He was wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, a gray warmup jacket and khaki shorts the morning of the shooting.

10. Exclusive: Alleged Russian agent Butina met with U.S. Treasury, Fed officials- Reuters

Maria Butina, accused in the United States of spying for Russia, had wider high-level contacts in Washington than previously known, taking part in 2015 meetings between a visiting Russian official and two senior U.S. officials.

The meetings, disclosed by several people familiar with the sessions and a report prepared by a Washington think tank that arranged them, involved Stanley Fischer, then Federal Reserve vice chairman, and Nathan Sheets, then Treasury undersecretary for international affairs.

Butina traveled to the United States in April 2015 with Alexander Torshin, then the Russian Central Bank deputy governor, and they took part in separate meetings with Fischer and Sheets to discuss U.S.-Russian economic relations during Democratic former President Barack Obama's administration.

The two meetings, which have not been previously reported, reveal a wider circle of high-powered connections that Butina sought with American political leaders and special interest groups.

Syria, Iran, Psalm 83 and prophecy

Monday, July 23, 2018

Many Christians are watching the situation in Syria, Gaza and Iran with great prophetic interest. Some, however, are predicting various prophetic outcomes surrounding these events, citing the "Psalm 83 War." There are many Biblical commentators who believe that Psalm 83 is about a prophesied war that triggers several prophetic events, including the rapture, the tribulation, and the eventual return of Christ. A careful reading of Psalm 83, however, demonstrates that there is no war prophesied and that the psalm is a prayer against the enemies of Israel that could be used even today as the nation is surrounded by those mentioned when Asaph wrote the psalm.

Verses 1-5 say, "Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee." Then Asaph names names--Ishmaelites who are Arabs; there is Edom, Moab, Ammon from Jordan; Gebal and Tyre from Lebanon; Hagarenes from Mesopotamia, Syria and Egypt; Amalek and Philistines from Gaza and Egypt; and Assur from Turkey and Iraq.

The rest of the Psalm asks God to cause these enemies to perish by wind, fire, storm, even confusion, concluding with verse 18, "That men may know that thou whose name alone is God, are the most high over all the earth." There are many items in Psalm 83 that are common to prophecies referring to the Day of the LORD. One example is when God defeats the beast (Gog) in Ezekiel 38. Many of the countries and people groups are similar. The LORD uses rain, hailstones, fire, brimstone, and confusion to defeat this coalition (v. 21 "every man's sword shall be against his brother") that "they shall know that I am God" (v.23).

These nations that are prophesied as coming against Israel by the Old Testament prophets are consistent enemies of Israel and today they are followers of the most antichrist system in the world--Islam. It is no huge revelation that these traditional enemies of Israel will cause wars and rumors of wars from now until the end. Our generation may well see the end time prophecies of the Bible play out before our very eyes. But let us be ever mindful of false teachings and traditions of men that lead us astray. Don't take my word for it, or other teachers; don't get angry if what you have been taught over a lifetime is challenged. Read the Bible for yourself, in its context, and judge what is being taught. Jesus told his followers repeatedly to not be deceived by man.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
Bill Wilson
