Brett Kavanaugh Nominated to Serve on SCOTUS

Trump picks Kavanaugh for Supreme Court

President Trump nominated appeals court judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court Monday night to replace the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, ending a days-long guessing game that began the moment Kennedy announced his retirement on June 27.

In televised remarks from the East Room of the White House, the president praised what he called Kavanaugh's "impeccable credentials, unsurpassed qualifications and a proven commitment to equal justice under the law."

"There is no one in America more qualified for this position, and no one more deserving," Trump said.

Kavanaugh, a former law clerk to Kennedy in 1993, was elevated to the powerful federal appeals court in the District of Columbia by President George W. Bush, under whom he had served as a White House lawyer and staff secretary. Kavanaugh, 53, also won the confidence of key players in the Bush circle such as strategist Karl Rove. - Father God, we thank You for the balance of power our Founders so wisely established in our Constitution. We bring this nominee before Your Throne of Grace today, asking only that Your perfect will be done now on earth, as it is in Heaven. If Brett Kavanaugh is the man of Your choosing to serve as the next Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States, we ask for swift confirmation in the Senate. But Father God, if Brett Kavanaugh is not the man of Your choosing, we ask that his nomination be blocked. In Your Name, amen.

- "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

1. Report: Hamas increases training ahead of possible war with Israel - Jerusalem Post

Hamas has increased its training in preparation for a possible conflict with Israel, defense officials warned on Sunday.

According to a report by Israeli public broadcaster Kan, Hamas has upped training of its forces ahead of a possible conflict with Israel, which recently deployed Iron Dome batteries along throughout southern Israel.

Another report, on Channel 2 News, said that Hamas had redeployed its military forces along the border with Israel, after they had left the area when large protests began there in May. The deployment of the forces could be a sign that Hamas is interested in taking back control of the territory near the border and preventing protestors from instigating violence with Israel.

3. Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem Issues Ruling Against Egalitarian Prayer Space at Western Wall - The Algemeiner

The Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem Shlomo Amar has issued a ruling forbidding the creation of a mixed-gender prayer space at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

Amar's ruling comes as the issue is being passed to a special committee headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which will be tasked with formulating a policy on the highly controversial question.

According to Israel's Channel Two, Amar's ruling stated that, according to Jewish law, it is forbidden to change the current status of the Wall.

"Here I return to the well-known ruling," wrote Amar, "that the entire length of the Western Wall from end to end is a holy place and one must behave toward it according to all the laws of the synagogue and the beit midrash. And no man has authority to trample on a holy place, not by desecrating the sabbath or holidays, and not by men and women praying together."

The National Security Council has drafted possible measures to be taken against the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) that operates in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.

"Israel has a technologically advanced market economy with cut diamonds, high-technology equipment and pharmaceuticals among its major exports. The country is very highly developed in terms of life expectancy, education, per capita income and other human development index indicators."

The Daily Brief

1. Manafort filing unmasks DOJ meeting with AP reporters, questions if 'grand jury secrecy' violated - Fox News

Lawyers for ex-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort are raising concerns about a 2017 meeting between top law enforcement figures and Associated Press reporters, questioning whether "grand jury secrecy" was violated and revealing memos that say the reporters even offered investigators a "code" pertaining to their client's storage facility.

The details emerged in a series of recent filings, including an effort by Manafort's attorneys to get his criminal trial moved from Northern Virginia, citing pretrial publicity.

"Mr. Manafort's legal issues and the attendant daily media coverage have become a theatre in the continuing controversy surrounding President Trump and his election," Manafort's lawyers wrote Judge T.S. Ellis, who is overseeing the bank and tax fraud case in Northern Virginia. A second prosecution, involving similar charges, is underway in Washington, D.C. Arguing for a trial in Roanoke, Va., Manafort's legal team said an "inside-the-beltway jury" would be biased against their client.

But Manafort's defense also is seeking a hearing on the April 2017 meeting involving FBI and Justice Department officials and four AP reporters - after his team for months has argued that improper leaks to the media have put him at a disadvantage. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your justice to prevail over this situation, and if there has been wrongdoing on either side we ask for a quick answer.

2. Fake News: AP Report that Army Was Purging Immigrants Was Not True - Gateway Pundit

In a report published this week, the Associated Press claimed that the U.S. Army is "quietly discharging immigrant recruits." But the implied message that the administration is targeting immigrants even in the military, while met with outrage, turned out to be not what it appeared.

The AP story quoted a retired U.S. Army colonel about 40 recruits who were hoping to obtain citizenship and had been abruptly dismissed from the military recruiting program, known as MAVNI (Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest), which began in 2009 under former President George W. Bush to meet the military's need for immigrants with certain special language skills, Fox News reported.

The program, which was suspended last year due to concerns that the Defense Department was unable to properly vet candidates, saw 10,000 immigrants become naturalized citizens since its start. The 40 recruits in question in the AP report had issues with their security clearances and were not summarily discharged. "Any recruit . . . who receives an unfavorable security screening is deemed unsuitable for military service and is administratively discharged," Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Nina Hill said Friday. - Lord, we ask that You put down these false reports that are a twisting of the truth. In the mighty Name of Jesus and by the power of His Blood we pray that all Americans would begin to see what is happening and cause the press to begin reporting things the way they are and not from their bias.

- "The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but the words of the pure are pleasant." (Proverbs 15:26)

3. NATO leaders fear Trump crisis at key summit -Yahoo news

NATO leaders face a major threat to the credibility of their military alliance at their summit this week-- not from traditional foe Russia, but from the head of their most powerful member, US President Donald Trump. The gathering at NATO headquarters in Brussels, days before Trump meets his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, is shaping up to be the most difficult in years, analysts and officials told AFP.

Allies are braced for a barrage of invective from Trump for not spending enough on defence, and are apprehensive that his often sceptical tone on the alliance that has underpinned European security for 70 years might turn into outright hostility. (Read more)

- Father, we speak peace to this summit, and ask for productive talks. We take authority over unrealistic fears, bitterness, and anger in the minds of our allies that are fueled by the media. The entire narrative of "crisis" talk is fed by a media that hates our President. So we thank You that You are the way around that narrative, and truth will come forth.

- "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good." (Proverbs 15:3)

4. The Wisconsin Supreme Court Strikes a Blow for Academic Freedom - National Review

This morning, the Wisconsin Supreme Court sent a powerful message to America's elite private universities: If you're going to promise academic freedom, you'd better deliver academic freedom.

In a stinging 63-page ruling, the court held that Marquette University violated its own faculty handbook when it effectively terminated professor John McAdams for writing a blog post criticizing a graduate student instructor's attempts to silence debate about gay rights in her ethics class.

The facts of the case are relatively simple. In late 2014, a student approached Professor McAdams and told him that his instructor, a graduate student named Cheryl Abbate, had "listed a number of issues on the board" - including "gay rights" - and then said, "Everybody agrees on this, and there is no need to discuss it." After class, the student approached the instructor and attempted to engage her in a discussion about gay marriage. After an initially appropriate exchange, the instructor shut down the discussion, saying that "you don't have a right in this class to make homophobic comments" and "in this class, homophobic comments, racist comments, will not be tolerated." She then "invited the student to drop the class." (Read more)

- Lord, more colleges have attempted to shut down those who disagree with the liberals viewpoints. We ask that You use this opportunity to protect our First amendment rights all across the nation.

- "The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" (Psalm 118:6)

5. Kentucky governor cancels some Medicaid benefits after judge blocks work requirements - The Blaze

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin (R) followed through with a threat to make cuts to Medicaid benefits if the state was not allowed to implement work requirements for able-bodied adult recipients, the Courier Journal reported. Just two days after a federal judge blocked Bevin's work requirement plan, the administration cut dental and vision benefits for almost half a million Kentucky residents.

"This is an unfortunate consequence of the judge's ruling," Doug Hogan, communications director for the Cabinet of Health and Family Services, wrote in an email.

What's the story?

Bevin is an opponent of the Medicaid expansion allowed by Obamacare, which his Democratic predecessor took advantage of.

The governor has said the current cost of Medicaid in Kentucky is unsustainable, so he wants to implement work requirements for able-bodied adults to help ensure that only those who truly need Medicaid are enrolled in the program. (Read more)

- Father, what seems like a common sense approach if people are able to work in order to receive state benefits, is now a snarl of anger. We pray for calm, for justice, for Your intervention in this situation.

- "If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." (2 Thess. 3:10b)

6. Michael Barone: AMLO and Trump - The odd couple that could oddly narrow the US-Mexico gap - Washington Examiner

Will NAFTA survive? Last week, by a very large margin, Mexicans elected as president longtime NAFTA critic Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (universally known as AMLO). He promptly had a cordial telephone conversation with longtime NAFTA critic President Trump, who remains U.S. president for at least the next 30 months and, if re-elected, for all of AMLO's six-year term.

The cordiality may just have been a ritual. Not since the 1920s have Mexico and the U.S. had presidents as critical of the other's country as they will upon AMLO's inauguration Dec. 1.

It's unclear whether the ongoing renegotiations of NAFTA with Mexico and Canada will result in abrogation of the treaty or just modifications, perhaps overdue after 25 years. But NAFTA is not just an economic agreement, even though it was sold to bipartisan majorities in Congress as that in 1993. For the boundary between the U.S. and Mexico, negotiated after the U.S. won the Mexican-American War in 1848, has not just been the world border separating the two most economically unequal neighboring nations. It has also been the line separating two profoundly different cultures.(Read more)

- Father, You alone know the hearts of these men, and whether or not AMLO will be able to negotiate with our President. We speak peace to their relationship, which may appear ot be off on the wrong foot before it even gets started.

- "He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered." (Proverbs 28:26)

7. Duterte vows to resign if anybody can prove God exists - Sacramento Bee

The Philippine president, who recently sparked outrage for calling God stupid, has courted new controversy in his largely Roman Catholic country by saying he will resign if anybody can prove that God exists. President Rodrigo Duterte, who has had a thorny relationship with the church, questioned anew in a speech late Friday some of the basic tenets of the Catholic faith, including the concept of original sin, which he said taints even innocent infants and can only be removed through baptism in a church for a fee. "Where is the logic of God there?" Duterte asked in a speech at the opening of a science and technology event in southern Davao city.

The 73-year-old leader said that if there's "one single witness" who can prove, perhaps with a picture or a selfie that a human was "able to talk and to see God," he will immediately resign. (Read more)

- Lord, this man is a fool for his unbelief, and even if he were shown the reality it is unlikely he would actually resign. But he can be the target of prayer by Christians who do believe, and we will watch for the answer to be forthcoming.

-"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." (Proverbs 9:10)

8. 'Unreal' Hate: St. Jude Family Attacked Online After Thanking Eric Trump for Support - Fox Insider

A Memphis woman whose nephew beat cancer said she's experienced hateful online attacks because she thanked Eric Trump for his commitment to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Last month, Sherrie Hopper thanked the president's son for his support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of Tennessee on Twitter, and said she and her family are "eternally grateful" for his commitment.

Eric Trump has reportedly raised more than $16 million for the hospital over the past 10 years.

After Trump shared the post, Hopper posted a video for the "#WalkAway Campaign" saying that the "hate" her family has received online is "unreal." (Read more)

- Lord, we loose Your authority over America in the Name of Jesus and by His Blood we declare these hateful attacks to be null and void. We pray that You will turn their hateful actions into a blessing for your people.

- " . . . but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you." (Deut 23:5b)

9. Neighbors Protest ICE As It Breaks Up Child Sex Trafficking Ring - The Federalist

Video of neighbors protesting as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents broke up a child sex trafficking ring in their neighborhood has resurfaced, as politicians and activists call for the agency to be abolished.

A local CBS news station reported on the incident, which took place in West Oakland, California, last year. ICE began conducting the raid in the morning, waking up neighbors who saw ICE and Department of Homeland Security vehicles on the street.

Assuming the agents were arresting illegal immigrants, people began protesting outside of the house. Neighbor Hadar Cohen woke up to her roommate crying, saying she didn't know what to do. The two of them and other housemates went outside to find agents on their street. Cohen, who was holding a "No person is illegal" sign, said that agents weren't telling the neighbors what was going on. (Read more)

- Lord, this situation can be laid at the feet of liberals and the media for pushing a narrative that is totally false and has targeting ICE agents who are doing important work. We ask that You not only protect these agents and their other employees, but that You bring Your powerful Light to shatter the darkness over this issue.

- "Oh, send out Your Light and Your truth!" (Psalm 43:3a)

10. 'It's All God': Tennessee Tent Revival in Its 3rd Month as More and More People Come to Christ - CBN

A spiritual revival continues to blaze in Northeastern Tennessee, entering its 12th week Monday with more than 200 people accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, according to the evangelist leading the services.

It's called the #GreenevilleAwakening, and it's being held under a big tent near Greeneville, Tennessee. "We've taken the Word of God and showed them how to be saved, and people from all walks of life, all social statuses," evangelist D.R. Harrison told CBN News. "It's just been amazing to see the power of God move in these last days."

Harrison said he originally was scheduled to preach a one-week revival beginning April 15 at the Greystone Freewill Baptist Church. He said in week three, the crowds increased to standing room only. Harrison said he and the pastor began to pray because they were running out of room at the church, and God provided a large tent through a North Carolina man. (Read more)

One God, and he's not allah

In 2014, a friend of mine called upset about the announcement that Islamic prayers were going to be held in the National Cathedral. I said, "What can I say or do about that?" He replied that our founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves to learn of such things. Indeed, the one true God, I'm sure, was not pleased either. The Episcopalians turned the National Cathedral into a house of ill repute. Of course, there are many so-called pastors who are doing the same to their churches. They tell us that allah and YHVH God are the same and that Islam is really a religion of peace. It is no such thing. It is a system where men use a false god to control, recruit and gain power, then to kill, steal and destroy.

In Matthew 24, Jesus explains the end times. He said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Verse 11 says, "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." Even today, there are many false prophets. Those who would say that allah and God are the same are chief among the false prophets. Especially those who call themselves Christians and also preach that allah and God are the same. The basic tenet of the Christian faith is found in John 14:6, where Jesus declares: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me." The Koran, the holy book of allah, in many verses denies that Jesus is the Son of God.

The Koran's Sura 4:171 says, "O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium (Mary) is only a messenger of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His messengers, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one Allah; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector." Sura 19:29: "God forbid that He Himself should beget a son!" Sura 17:111:"Praise be to God who has never begotten a son; who has no partner in His Kingdom . . ."

If allah and God are the same, then why would God tell Jews and Christians one thing and Muslims another in their holy books? Why would there be two holy books? Christian pastors, politicians, Episcopalian administrators of the National Cathedral take heed. You cannot agree that allah and God are the same and at the same time claim that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. You are double minded. Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, "Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what partnership has light with darkness?" If you believe allah and God are equal, then you are unequally yoked, and yoked with the darkness of the Islamic deeds. allah is not God. Those who believe so are badly mistaken and deceived. Run from them.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD

""Go up to Gilead and take balm." (Jeremiah 46:11)

Lyrics
Refrain

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin sick soul.

Some times I feel discouraged,
And think my work's in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit
Revives my soul again.

Refrain

If you can't preach like Peter,
If you can't pray like Paul,
Just tell the love of Jesus,
And say He died for all.

About the Author:

Words and Music: African-American spiritual

About the Hymn:

The "balm in Gilead" is a reference from the Old Testament, but the lyrics of this spiritual refer to the New Testament concept of salvation through Jesus Christ. The Balm of Gilead is interpreted as a spiritual medicine that is able to heal Israel (and sinners in general). In the Old Testament, the balm of Gilead is taken most directly from Jeremiah chapter 8 v. 22: "Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wounds of my [God's] people?" (Another allusion can also be found in Jeremiah chapter 46, v. 2 and 11: "This is the message (of the Lord) against the army of Pharaoh Neco . . . Go up to Gilead and get balm, O Virgin Daughter of Egypt, but you multiply remedies in vain; here is no healing for you" - see also Jeremiah chapter 22, v. 6.)

Cosmic Radiation Detected on Commercial Flights over the South Pacific

July 9, 2018: Last month, flight attendants got some bad news. According to a new study from researchers at Harvard University, the crews of commercial airlines face an elevated risk of cancer compared to members of the general population. The likely reason: cosmic rays. High energy particles from space hitting the top of Earth's atmosphere create a spray of secondary radiation that penetrates the walls of airplanes above ~20,000 feet.

We have some new data pertinent to this topic. On June 19th, Spaceweather.com and students of Earth to Sky Calculus flew from California to New Zealand to launch a series of space weather balloons. Naturally, we took our radiation sensors onboard the aircraft. Here is what we measured:
