Reflections for Holy Week:
Day Five: Maundy Thursday
Thursday, April 18, 2019
> > > Please read I Corinthians 15: 35-43
As we approach the celebration of Good Friday, I'm reminded of the seven sayings of Jesus from the cross and of the glory and the power in each saying.
Now even His loyal Twelve had left. And at last we hear Him cry out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34). Not only had He been forsaken by His human companions, but now in that desperate and lonely hour, He- because He was bearing our sins in His own body on the cross-had been forsaken by God. Jesus was enduring the suffering and judgment of Hell for you and for me.
How can you show your gratitude to God for allowing His Son to endure the shame and suffering of the cross?

1. With plea for harmony, president officially taps Netanyahu to form new coalition - Times of Israel
President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday officially tasked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with assembling a coalition to govern the 21st Knesset with a plea to Israel's leader to soothe social divides after a combative election campaign.
"In democracies, the majority decides. And in these elections, the majority spoke its part," Rivlin said at a press conference alongside Netanyahu, after officially handing him the appointment.
Netanyahu, who will be serving as prime minister for an unprecedented fifth term, is expected to cobble together a coalition of right-wing and ultra-Orthodox parties after talks kick off Thursday.

Prayer Request:
- Lord God, we thank You for this hard-earned victory on behalf of Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. We praise You, Lord, that he will now be given the opportunity to lead Israel for his fifth term of office, carefully shaping the destiny of his nation. Amen.
- "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)
2. WATCH: Palestinians Agree to Peace Talks without Preconditions, then Demand Preconditions - United With Israel
Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Minister Riyad Al Malki recently announced that PA President Mahmoud Abbas is willing to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "without preconditions." In typical fashion, Al Malki immediately issued a precondition after extending the empty precondition offer, demanding that Russian President Vladimir Putin preside over the negotiations.
With Russia aligned with Syria and Iran, nations sworn to Israel's destruction, Al Malki's precondition reveals the Palestinians' intransigence when it comes to sitting down in good faith with Israel to hammer out an agreement.

3. Hamas threatens Israel: 'No ceasefire, no Eurovision'- World Israel News
Hamas terror group operatives circulated a clip on social media in which they state that Hamas will not allow the Eurovision to take place as long as there is a blockade on the Strip. In the clip, Hamas warns that no one will be able to sing and dance while Gaza's residents "are suffering." The site in Tel Aviv at which the Eurovision is to be held is shown in the clip with its coordinates, and sirens are heard in the background, implying some sort of attack.
Hamas is seeking to achieve a significant breakthrough that will enable it to avert a crisis that could endanger its brutal rule in the Gaza Strip. The terror group is hoping to solidify a long-term ceasefire with Israel, which will ostensibly bring the Strip economic relief.

4. First Passover seder to be held in Warsaw Ghetto since Holocaust - World Israel News
Hundreds of Jews will celebrate the Passover seder this Friday night in a place that has not seen such a ceremonial meal since 1943, Arutz 7reported on Wednesday.
The chief rabbi of Chabad-Poland, Shalom Ber Stambler, will host a hundred families from the U.S., Israel, and Poland in the former Warsaw Ghetto, which still stands in part today in the center of the Polish capital as a reminder of the Holocaust.
"It is very significant for us to be celebrating Jewish holidays, and particularly the seder night, which symbolizes Jewish freedom and the day that we united as a nation, in a place that not long ago others sought to destroy us," Stambler said. "Throughout the ages, the Jewish people have been oppressed by many nations, yet we have always emerged triumphant!"

5. US special envoy Jason Greenblatt releases map that includes the Golan - World Israel News
On Tuesday, the Trump administration's special envoy for Middle East negotiations, Jason Greenblatt, released an updated map of Israel that now includes the Golan Heights.
"Welcome to the newest addition of our international maps system after @POTUS issued a proclamation recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights," Mr. Greenblatt tweeted.

6. Bombshell Report: Deal of the Century Won't Include Palestinian State - Israel Today
The long-anticipated details of the Trump Administration's "Deal of the Century" is likely to stop short of giving the Palestinians a state, according to sources close to the White House cited by The Washington Post.
Sources say that the "Deal of the Century" will focus on Israel's security concerns.
The Trump Administration is expected to present their proposal in the coming months for a resolution to the long-entrenched Palestinian problem. Behind-the-scenes over the past two years, Trump's Middle East adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner has been shuttling back and forth between Israeli and Middle East leaders in secret meetings, and officials have kept many of the details of their talks secret. However, recent comments from Kushner and other US officials indicate that Palestinian statehood will not be on the table as a condition for restarting peace talks.
The Trump proposal will include financial incentives to improve the lives of Palestinian Arabs, people familiar with the effort said in the Post report. Arab officials around the Middle East have also confirmed that Kushner has suggested that economic opportunities for Palestinians will be a centerpiece of the plan.

7. The kids are all right-wing: Why Israel's younger voters are more conservative - The Times of Israel
Like lots of millennials who have catapulted to fame, May Golan got her start on the internet, blogging about life in her South Tel Aviv neighborhood. From there she gained a platform as a social activist, with 25,000 followers on Facebook and 16,300 on Twitter.
On Tuesday, April 9, hours before she won a seat in Israel's Knesset, she reached out to voters in one last Facebook video.
"The right wing government is in danger," she warned viewers, wearing a T-shirt with the words "Netanyahu. Right-wing. Strong. Successful." emblazoned in blue and white block letters.
"There could be a leftist government here," she said. "We have so many hopes and dreams. We have hoped for a secure future, to return governance and sovereignty from the legal activism that's strangling us, and those leftist nonprofits that end up making the most important decisions here."

1. Donald Trump Hosting Wisconsin Rally on Night of White House Correspondents' Dinner - Breitbart
President Donald Trump announced his plan for a political rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Saturday, April 27 - the same night as the White House Correspondents' dinner. The president declined to attend the WHCA dinner earlier this month.
"I'm going to hold a rally, because the dinner is so boring and so negative, that we're going to hold a very positive rally," Trump told reporters at the White House. This is the third year in a row that Trump has skipped the dinner in favor of a political rally. In 2018, Trump held a rally with supporters in Washington, Michigan. (Read more)
- Father, we pray You will go before President Trump and his team and shield them from all harm or trouble. Give President Trump wisdom and safety as he makes plans for his re-election campaign.
- Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe. (Proverbs 28:26)
2. Democrats, GOP poised to pounce on Mueller findings - The Hill
Democrats and Republicans are preparing their arguments and talking points ahead of Thursday's release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report. Democrats are poised to go after Attorney General William Barr over expected redactions, suggesting they will subpoena the Justice Department if they think too much information is left out of the document.
President Trump and his conservative allies on Capitol Hill are expected to point back to the core conclusions of Mueller's report - as described by Barr - to argue Trump has been exonerated and that the investigation should no longer be an issue.
GOP strategist Ford O'Connell said Republicans believe they can leverage the Mueller report to their advantage in 2020 by using Democratic calls for transparency to fuel their efforts to investigate the individuals who launched the counterintelligence probe into Russia's election interference.
Barr is already set to appear before both the Senate and House Judiciary committees at the start of next month. There is no word yet as to whether Mueller will join him. (Read more)
- Father, we pray the Mueller report will be conclusive and useless as a basis for continued partisan subpoenas, lawsuits, and fighting.
- So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no one knows whether love or hate awaits them. (Ecclesiastes 9:1)
3. House Dems Sign Secret MOUs To Target Trump - SaraACarter
Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Elijah Cummings and Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters executed a secret Memorandum of Understanding to "target" President Trump and subpoena all his financial and banking records, according to a letter sent to Cummings from ranking committee member Rep. Jim Jordan.
Further, Jordan's letter indicates that other MOUs have apparently been signed and agreed to with House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Ca, who has promised to continue investigations into the president despite findings by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office that there was no conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia.
On Monday, Jordan sent a memorandum explaining his objections to the partisan behavior of Cummings and "unprecedented subpoena to Mazars USA LLP," as reported by SaraACarter.com. "We'd describe (the MOUs) as an agreement to conspire and coordinate their efforts to attack and investigate POTUS," Congressional official. "If you intend to continue to use the Committee's limited resources to attack President Trump for political gain, I hope that you will at least be transparent about your actions," said Jordan at the end of his letter. (Read more)
- Father, thank You for shining light on these Memorandums and the coordinated efforts to hamper the Trump Administration. We pray these plans will not be implemented, for the benefit of the nation.
- The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. (Psalm 33:10)
4. GOP Senators Really Want To See A 'Highly Classified' FBI Memo About The Hillary Clinton Investigation - Daily Caller
The Republican chairmen of three Senate committees are pressing Attorney General William Barr for details about "highly classified information" that the FBI declined to investigate as part of the Hillary Clinton email probe. They inquired with the Justice Department about the matter on July 31, 2018, in a phone call on Sept. 17, 2018, and in letters on Oct. 17, 2018 and now, April 16, 2019.
After the September 2018 phone call, the Justice Department declined to provide a briefing to the Senate Judiciary Committee, claiming that doing so would interfere with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. "Now that the Special Counsel's investigation has concluded, we are unaware of any legitimate basis upon which the Department can refuse to answer the Judiciary Committee's inquiries," the senator's wrote.
The inspector general's finding "raises significant issues associated with the FBI's failure to review certain highly classified information in support of its Midyear investigation," reads the letter to Barr, signed by GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, the chairmen of the Senate Judiciary, Finance and Homeland Security Committees, respectively. (Read more)
- Father, we pray the FBI will honor this request and be more open and transparent with information requested by oversight committees.
- But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
(Amos 5:24)
5. Pete Buttigieg's father was a Marxist professor who lauded the Communist Manifesto - Washington Examiner
The father of Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg was a Marxist professor who spoke fondly of the Communist Manifesto. Joseph Buttigieg, who died in January at the age of 71, immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s from Malta and in 1980 joined the University of Notre Dame faculty, where he taught modern European literature and literary theory.
"Equity, environmental consciousness, and racial justice are surely some of the ingredients of a healthy Marxism. Indeed, Marxism's greatest appeal - undiminished by the collapse of Communist edifices - is the imbalances produced by other sociopolitical governing structures," Buttigieg wrote. Paul Kengor, a professor at Grove City College and an expert in communism and progressivism, said Buttigieg was among a group of leftist professors who focused on injecting Marxism into the wider culture. "They're part of a wider international community of Marxist theorists and academicians with a particular devotion to the writings of the late Italian Marxist theorist Antonio Gramsci. He was all about applying Marxist theory to culture and cultural institutions - what is often referred to as a 'long march through the institutions,' such as film, media, and especially education," Kengor told the Washington Examiner. (Read more)
- Father, we pray the media will truly find out if Pete Buttigieg's political philosophy aligns with his father. We ask You, Lord, to protect our nation from such destructive ideas.
- They would not be like their ancestors-a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him. (Psalm 78:8)
6. President looms large over McConnell-Pelosi spending ceiling talks - The Hill
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is trying to build a functional working relationship with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as the two tackle the mammoth task of winning a deal on fiscal spending ceilings for the next year. McConnell says the deal is his top legislative priority after the April recess, but achieving it won't be easy.
Democrats are insisting on parity between defense and nondefense spending, arguing any hike for the Pentagon must be equal to that for domestic spending. That directly contradicts the wishes of President Trump, whose budget proposed slashing nondefense spending while increasing defense spending by 5 percent.
"We have got to get used to talking to each other," McConnell told reporters last week after reaching out to Trump and Pelosi about kickstarting the talks. "The only way we can, in a divided government, get a rational spending-cap bill is in the political center," he said. "Her most liberal members probably won't vote for it. Many of my conservative members won't vote for it, but we have to do it because the country will suffer, either through a [continuing resolution] or, even worse, a sequester if we don't do it." (Read more)
- Father, we pray our leaders will work together for the benefit of the entire nation and its' citizens.
- May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth. (Psalm 67:4)
7. Congress Wants Investigation Into Taxpayer-Funded Anti-Israel Events at UNC, Duke - FreeBeacon
Congress is petitioning the Education Department to explain how $235,000 in taxpayer dollars were used to fund a series of anti-Israel events organized by Duke University and the University of North Carolina that featured speakers and events tied to Palestinian terror groups.
Rep. George Holding (R., Ga.), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, petitioned Secretary of Education Betsy Devos in a letter sent Monday to investigate the events, which the lawmaker described as featuring "severe anti-Israeli bias and explicit anti-Semitism."
The anti-Israel events have generated controversy at both schools due to what observers have described as a vitriolic anti-Israel bias that fosters an unsafe environment on campus for Jewish students. Duke has come under fire in past months for hosting similar events that witnesses have described as anti-Israel. (Read more)
- Father, we pray for total exposure and removal of institutional anti-Semitism throughout our Colleges and Universities. Dry up their sources of funding until real change occurs.
- Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel.
(Isaiah 5:24)
8. 'Shadowy' dark money network behind left-wing causes exposed in new report - FoxNews
An expansive network of "shadowy" dark money donors has grown to rival the influence of the conservative Koch brothers -- pumping millions into left-wing causes ranging from health care to climate change to abortion -- all while flying well under the radar of public scrutiny, according to an explosive new report obtained by Fox News.
The report, by conservative watchdog Capital Research Center, describes a band of nonprofits operating under the banner of Washington-based philanthropy company Arabella Advisors. Those "pop up groups" are housed in four Arabella-controlled "sister" nonprofits, according to the report: the New Venture Fund, Sixteen Thirty Fund, Hopewell Fund and Windward Fund. "Together, these groups form an interlocking network of 'dark money' pop-up groups and other fiscally sponsored projects, all afloat in a half-billion-dollar ocean of cash," the report says.
The company was founded by Eric Kessler, who has worked both in the Clinton administration, where he managed conservation issues, and as a member of the Clinton Global Initiative. He also founded the New Venture Fund and is on the board of the Sixteen Thirty Fund. (Read more)
- Father, we ask You to remove these organizations and their negative influence on our nation. Cause them to be fully exposed and ruined.
- The Righteous One takes note of the house of the wicked and brings the wicked to ruin. (Proverbs 21:12)
9. Pew Research: Hispanics to Outpace Black Americans as Largest Voting Minority in 2020 - Breitbart
Pew Research Center projections predict that Hispanic American voters will now be the largest voting minority in the 2020 presidential election, passing black American voters for the first time in United States history. Eligible Hispanic voters in 2020 will tick up to a record 13.3 percent of the entire American electorate, while eligible black American voters will make up about 12.5 percent of the electorate.
The Pew Research study matches demographic trends that are projected over the next four decades, driven nearly entirely by the country's legal immigration policy that admits more than 1.2 million legal immigrants every year. By 2040, current legal immigration levels will bring about 15 million new foreign-born voters to the U.S. Ahead of 2020, nearly all Democrats vying for the Democrat presidential nomination have announced their support for not only amnesty for all 11 to 22 million in the U.S. but also for continuing the Washington, D.C.-imposed mass immigration policy. (Read more)
- Father, we pray both parties will compete for the Hispanic vote and give the people a vision for how they can bless their families and benefit their lives.
- Then Abner said to Joab, "Let the young men now arise and compete before us." And Joab said, "Let them arise." (2 Samuel 2:12)
10. Liberal Feminist Mother Warns Transgender Activists Are Taking Control of Mental Health Profession - The Federalist
A liberal feminist mother of a gender-dysphoric teen warns parents that transgender activists are ensuring it will soon be "nearly impossible" to find a mental health professional who is willing to help these children evaluate their self-perceptions. "What the general public does not understand is that standard mental health therapy is now considered conversion therapy when practiced with gender-dysphoric youth," the mother asserted.
"I quickly discovered that it is nearly impossible to find therapists who do this kind of work," wrote the anonymous mother in a piece that appeared at the Federalist Tuesday. "If a girl presents as transgender today, the vast majority of therapists will immediately affirm the girl's declared gender identity and ask her what steps she would like to take toward transition."
Currently, transgender activists are celebrating their success in pressing lawmakers in 16 states and the District of Columbia to ban what they call "conversion therapy." These political supporters of gender ideology claim therapists who do not immediately affirm the perception of young people claiming to be a gender that is incompatible with their biological sex are "harmful" and "abusive" and must be outlawed. (Read more)
- Father, we lift up our young people who are being bombarded with destructive messages about their sexual identities. We pray for Your deliverance of each one and a turning of their hearts to You.
- So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless. (Ecclesiastes 11:10)

The state of Christianity entering the high holy day
As we Christians begin to celebrate the highest of holy days in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it may well be wise to have some introspection. There is a decline of Christianity in our nation. A fast-growing number of Millennials and Generation Z find Christianity irrelevant. Christians get enraged at immorality, policy, and the state of affairs in our country and around the world. Yet we are demanding that people hold to moral beliefs as justified by a book that they don't even read. On a day that we commemorate Christ sacrificing his life that all who believe on him may have everlasting life, we Christians, as a whole, should be doing a better job as disciples than what we are doing.
1 Corinthians 5:12 asks, "For what have I to do to judge them also that are outside? do not you judge them that are within?" In direct speak, it means that we have no business holding those who do not know the gospel accountable to our standards. That's why we are exhorted, even commanded, to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey what the Lord has commanded us. We must find ways to make Christianity relevant. It has been tainted to be identified with political ideals, when in reality, the political ideals should be identified with Christianity, foundationally centered on God's love and love for one another. It starts with our individual relationship with the Lord. To look at our families, communities, states, nations from a Christian lens, we should first start by looking in the mirror.
The Apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 4:17-19, "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 10:13-14, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"
Jesus said in Matthew 24:23, "Then if any man shall say unto you Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not." Our national identity and, more importantly, our personal salvation is diluted tremendously if we, as Peter put it, "scarcely be saved." If America's preachers are so intent on preaching/teaching a self indulgent, extra Biblical and emotional version of the Christ, then what Christ are we following--the real Son of God, crucified and risen, for our sins, or some humanist version of Christ that fits a social or political extra-biblical gospel? It is here, not on the national policy front, that we as a people have lost our identity. This should be a serious personal consideration that gives weight to working out your salvation with fear and trembling.
Have a blessed and powerful day,

Breaking News
1. DOJ to show Mueller report 'without certain redactions' to some lawmakers; Barr holds news conference Thursday - Fox News
Attorney General William Barr is set to hold a news conference Thursday morning where he will discuss the long-awaited release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report -- and certain members of Congress will be able to see the report "without certain redactions" after its public release, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.
Barr will be joined by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at 9:30 a.m. where they are expected to discuss the release of the report, officials said.
The disclosure of a version of the report without "certain redactions" came in a filing late Wednesday in the Roger Stone prosecution. The DOJ said it would publicly redact sections related to Stone's case which is ongoing. Stone, a longtime confidant of the president, is awaiting trial on charges including false statements and obstruction. (Read more)
- Father, we pray the Mueller report will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
- Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)
2. Trump vetoes resolution calling on US to pull support of Saudi-led Yemen war - Fox News
President Trump on Tuesday vetoed a joint resolution calling on the U.S. to end military assistance to Saudi-led forces fighting in Yemen's ongoing civil war, calling it "an unnecessary, dangerous attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities, endangering the lives of American citizens and brave service members, both today and in the future."
It was just the second veto of Trump's presidency and Congress lacks the votes to override him. Both houses of Congress had invoked the War Powers Resolution of 1973 in a bid to end American involvement in the conflict, which has raged in the Middle Eastern country since 2015.
The U.S. has provided billions of dollars of arms to the Saudi-led coalition fighting against Iran-backed rebels in Yemen. Members of Congress have expressed concern about the thousands of civilians killed in coalition airstrikes since the conflict began. The fighting in the Arab world's poorest country also has left millions suffering from food and medical care shortages and has pushed the country to the brink of famine. (Read more)
- Father God, we pray that our nation will support our troops and support personnel who have been deployed to serve in this difficult war in Yemen. We support our President, in prayer, amen.
- "Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king." (I Peter 2:17)
3. Lifting up poor communities-the conservative way - The White House
Today, President Trump brought State and local leaders from both parties together at the White House for a conference on "Opportunity Zones"-a signature piece of his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Rather than spending more money on yet another government program or Washington bureaucracy, Opportunity Zones offer tax incentives for long-term investment in more than 8,760 low-income communities throughout America.
"Across the country, our tax cuts have kicked off a race to invest in Opportunity Zones, beyond anything that anyone in this room even thought," President Trump said today.
Opportunity Zones are a powerful vehicle for bringing economic growth and job creation to the American communities that need them the most. The census tracts eligible for the program were chosen by Governors, then certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. All told, the program is anticipated to spur $100 billion in private capital investment. (To read the President's statements today, go here and go here.)
> > > For those of you who are working with social media, we do ask that you broadcast this news with your own networks, offering letters of support to the President on this valuable initiative, should you be led to do so. Thank you.
- Father God, we thank You that President Trump has gone forward to help the needy in our nation, and to recognize not only the leaders of our political parties, but also the tribal and community leaders in doing so. We thank you for giving us a "king" who rules wisely. Amen.
- " . . . honor the king . . ." (I Peter 2:17)
4. ISIS-Linked Group Posts Notre Dame Cathedral Warning: 'Wait for the Next' - Western Journal
Supporters of the Islamic State group used Monday's fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris to threaten future attacks, even though the investigation of the blaze has so far shown no links to terrorism, according to published reports.
"Wait for the next," was the translation given to one image posted by an Islamic State-linked group that showed flames near the bell towers of the cathedral, the U.K. Daily Mail reported, citing the privately run SITE Intelligence Group. The towers survived.
Another piece of propaganda spelled out "Have a good day," in Arabic letters, while another called the fire "retribution and punishment," SITE reported, according to the Daily Mail. (Read more)
- Father God, it is obvious that, although our military has destroyed the operating center of ISIS inside Syria, this terrorist group is not gone. We ask for increased vigilance on the part of security personnel worldwide during this most holy of weekends for Christians around the world, as they stand watch over all other places of worship. Thank you, Lord, amen.

5. Man caught with 2 gas cans entering St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, police say - Fox News
A man was taken into custody in New York Wednesday night after entering St. Patrick's Cathedral carrying two canisters of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and two butane lighters, authorities said.
The man, whose identity will be released once he is formally charged, was stopped by a cathedral security officer, New York City Police said. The man turned around, spilling some gasoline, and walked south onto Fifth Avenue and over to 50th street.
Cathedral security notified two Critical Response Command (CRC) officers-- part of a "striker team"-- outside the cathedral. (Read more)
- Lord God, as above, we ask increased prayer, in particular, for all security personnel in New York City over this upcoming weekend. We praise the Lord that this man was seen, and was captured. In Your Name, amen.
- "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners
Our Mission Statement
Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
