Holy Week: Day Four
Wednesday, March 28, 2018
> > > Please read I Corinthians 15: 29-34
When the devil tempted Jesus, it was a real temptation. He tempted Him to turn stones into bread (see Matthew 4:1-4). What a temptation that must have been! Jesus was hungry; He had the power to turn those stones into bread. But there was another reason that made the temptation so powerful: the great need of the human race. Think of the starving people He could have fed!
Jesus could have done it, but He was here to take people to Heaven, to give them eternal life. And He could do that only by going to the cross and taking their judgment and their Hell. From the cross He was saying, "I love you. I love you, whoever you are." He would have died on that cross if you had been the only person in the whole world. He loves you. You are important to Him.
Outside the influence of the cross there is bitterness, intolerance, ill will, prejudice, hatred, crime, and war. That is why-if the world does not turn to Christ, and Him crucified and raised from the dead-we could see the judgment of God falling upon our world.
Have you met Christ at the foot of the cross, turned from your sins, and put your life completely under His control?

1. Netanyahu secures majority backing after right-wing parties recommend him as PM -Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secured the backing of a majority of Knesset members Tuesday as Yisrael Beytenu, the Union of Right-Wing Parties and Kulanu recommended him to form the next government in their official consultations with President Reuven Rivlin.
With 10 of the 11 parties elected to the Knesset having presented their recommendations to Rivlin (the Arab Ra'am-Balad party was meeting with him later Tuesday), Netanyahu has the backing of 65 MKs, a majority of the 120-seat Knesset. Blue and White leader Benny Gantz, in contrast, has just 45.
The president said his choice is now "all but certain" and he is expected to entrust the task of forming a government to Netanyahu, who is likely to be able to build a coalition of up to 65 seats comprising Likud (35 or 36 seats), the ultra-Orthodox Shas (8), United Torah Judaism (7 or 8), Union of Right-Wing Parties (5), Kulanu (4), and, likely, Yisrael Beytenu (5).

2. Rivlin: I will ask Netanyahu to form government - Israel Hayom
President Reuven Rivlin announced on Tuesday that a majority of MKs had advised him to have Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu form a government after the April 9 election, effectively ensuring his nomination.
In office for the past decade, Netanyahu won a fifth term despite an announcement by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit in February that he might charge the prime minister in three corruption cases. Netanyahu has denied wrongdoing.
President Reuven Rivlin chooses a party leader whom he judges has the best prospect of putting together a ruling coalition. He was set to announce his candidate on Wednesday.
In broadcast remarks on Tuesday, the second day of Rivlin's consultations with political parties on their preferences for prime minister, he said Netanyahu "now has a majority of Knesset members" behind him. "Any room I had for maneuver has effectively been removed at this moment," he added.

3. Rivlin Receives 61 Recommendations to Appoint Netanyahu - Jewish Press
Sixty-one MKs morning have recommended to President Reuven Rivlin by Tuesday morning to assign Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form the next government.
In the round of meetings with the president that began on Monday, the Likud, Shas and United Torah Judaism recommended Netanyahu to the post, while Kachol Lavan recommended Benny Gantz and Arab faction Hadash-Ta'al did not recommend any of the candidates. On Tuesday morning, the Labor Party recommended Gantz to the post, as did Meretz. Representatives of Yisrael Beiteinu and the Right-Wing Union recommended Netanyahu, as Kulanu is expected to do.
Ra'am-Balad, the other Arab faction, is also expected not to recommend anyone.
Yisrael Beiteinu's Evgeny Sova and Yulia Malinovsky recommended Netanyahu but told the president, "We are in a very complex situation, it is our duty to maintain the delicate balance between religion and state in our time. We see it as our duty to be a defender of the secular public in the State of Israel, while respecting the religious community, of course."

4. Palestinians turn to Russia to bypass US peace plan - Jerusalem Post
The Palestinians are urging Russia to play a greater role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as they embark on an international campaign to bypass the Trump administration's peace plan, which is scheduled to be released in the coming months, Palestinian officials said on Tuesday.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to visit Moscow in the coming months to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has spoken multiple times of hosting a Middle East peace process that would include direct talks between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Abbas.
PA Foreign Minister Riad Malki said on Tuesday that Abbas was prepared to meet with Netanyahu without preconditions if Russia is prepared to host such a summit.

5. Fire breaks out on Temple Mount during Notre-Dame blaze - Israel National News
A small fire broke out on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Monday, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.
The fire broke out at a guard's booth on the Temple Mount, though Israeli police emphasize that the blaze was "quickly extinguished" and the site is currently open.
The blaze broke out on Monday evening around the same time as Paris's Notre-Dame cathedral burned, police said.
Israeli police said that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined, and that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire had been launched.

6. 1,600-year-old gold coin of emperor who abolished Sanhedrin discovered by pupils - Times of Israel
An extremely rare 1,600-year-old gold coin of the Byzantine emperor who made Jews second-class citizens in the Land of Israel has been discovered - ironically, near a new trail built in commemoration of the Sanhedrin he abolished. It is the first time this coin has been found in Israel, according to an Israel Antiquities Authority press release published on Tuesday.
In February, four trekking teens stumbled upon the coin while orienteering in the fields alongside the Zippori stream in the Galilee. The high schoolers, Ido Kadosh, Ofir Sigal, Dotan Miller and Harel Grin, immediately discerned that this was no run-of-the-mill coin and alerted their geography and history teacher Zohar Porshyan, who contacted the Israel Antiquities Authority.
The ninth graders received a certificate of commendation from the IAA at the Haemeq Hama'aravi High School in Kibbutz Yifat in the Jezreel Valley. The coin has been transferred to the State Treasuries.

1. European Churches: Vandalized, Defecated On, and Torched "Every Day"- Gatestone Institute
In Germany, four separate churches were vandalized and/or torched in March alone. "In this country," PI-News, a German news site, explained, "there is a creeping war against everything that symbolizes Christianity: attacks on mountain-summit crosses, on sacred statues by the wayside, on churches... and recently also on cemeteries."
In virtually every instance of church attacks, authorities and media obfuscate the identity of the vandals. In those rare instances when the Muslim (or "migrant") identity of the destroyers is leaked, the desecraters are then presented as suffering from mental health issues. Hardly anyone writes and speaks about the increasing attacks on Christian symbols.
There is an eloquent silence in both France and Germany about the scandal of the desecrations and the origin of the perpetrators.... Not a word, not even the slightest hint that could in anyway lead to the suspicion of migrants...
It is not the perpetrators who are in danger of being ostracized, but those who dare to associate the desecration of Christian symbols with immigrant imports. They are accused of hatred, hate speech and racism." (Read more)
- Lord, regardless of what kind of churches these were, some have major historical value, and all have symbols of Your Presence and Love that are being destroyed. We ask for a move of Your Spirit in all of these nations, including our own, to grant us repentance, and heart change.
- "O, Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)
2. Trump says GOP 'can retake the House' by addressing asylum 'con job' - Washington Examiner
President Trump said Monday that Republicans "can retake the House" next year by vowing asylum restrictions, calling a surge of Central American migrants a "big con job." Trump said he believed many asylum-seekers are not actually victims of persecution. "Congress has to get smart," Trump said in Minnesota. "The Republicans want to do it but you need the votes of the Democrats. You need 60 votes in the Senate, and we are a little bit short in the House. We can retake the House, I think, over this issue."
With the prospects for legislation bleak, the White House pursued a dramatic housecleaning of senior leadership at the Department of Homeland Security to speed enactment of regulations to limit admittance of migrants seeking asylum and to limit the benefits available. (Read more)
- Father, we pray our legislators will do the right thing and protect our nation. Cause the people to rise up and demand action on this issue.
- Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. (Job 38:3)
3. Trump immigration officials face 'death, personal threats,' for being 'pro-border control' - Washington Examiner
In its campaign to energize the Department of Homeland Security and immigration-focused agencies, the White House has run into a wall. The problem: Few people are in the anti-immigration "career path," and those who are face an increasing level of personal threats.
Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting Director Thomas Homan, for example, faced death threats before leaving for a private industry job. And top White House immigration adviser Stephen Miller has faced protests at his condo complex and was heckled at a restaurant last year. What's more, his face was printed on "Wanted" posters placed on lampposts near his downtown Washington condo.
What's more, there is a "culture" in immigration offices of helping people get into the country and receive government benefits. Many consider immigrants, not taxpayers, "their clients," said the official. As a result, few policy wonks have gone into immigration policy. "In Washington, D.C., in terms of career tracks, it's not a well-populated career track to sort of go into trying to restrict immigration benefits," said the official. (Read more)
- Father, we pray for the necessary cultural change within our Department of Homeland Security to protect American citizens and their interests first.
- No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. (Matthew 6:24a)
4. De Blasio Threatens to Sue if Trump Sends Immigrants to Sanctuary City NYC - Breitbart
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio threatened to sue the Trump administration if it sends illegal immigrants to New York City, a "sanctuary city." According to the New York Post, de Blasio said, "It's illegal. It is just plain illegal. We will meet him in court. We will beat him in court."
"Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only," Trump tweeted.
So-called "sanctuary cities" are cities where local authorities do not report the immigration status of residents to federal authorities. Last week, the Washington Post reported that the White House proposed transporting and releasing detained immigrants to sanctuary cities such as San Francisco, allegedly to alleviate detention space at the border, but also to "send a message to Democrats." (Read more)
- Father, we pray for Mayor de Blasio to have a change of heart and perspective, to repent for implementing policies that make his city less safe and less prosperous. Help him call upon You for the wisdom to turn things around for New York city.
- We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud. (Psalm 123:4)
5. Bernie Sanders, at combative Fox News town hall, makes no apologies for making millions - FoxNews
Bernie Sanders took the stage at a fiery Fox News town hall in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Monday, and sparks flew almost immediately, as Sanders defiantly refused to explain why he would not voluntarily pay the massive new 52-percent "wealth tax" that he advocated imposing on the nation's richest individuals. Sanders later admitted outright that "you're going to pay more in taxes" if he became president.
On whether he supported abortions that occur up to the moment of birth, Sanders retorted, "I think that happens very, very rarely, and I think this is being made into a political issue. At the end of the day, I think the decision over abortion belongs to a woman and her physIcian, and not the government."
Sanders also said felons, including rapists and murderers, should be able to vote from prison. But he insisted he was not simply courting more potential Democrat voters.
The Tax Day town hall took place as Sanders emerged as the fundraising front-runner among Democrats, and sought to further distinguish himself from a crowded field of liberal candidates who have largely embraced his progressive proposals, from a sweeping 'Medicare for All' overhaul to a higher minimum wage and free public college education. (Read more)
- Father, we pray You would help each voter understand how these socialist policies will change their lives and limit their freedoms. We lift up the Democrat party and pray their nominee will be completely honest with the American people.
- How painful are honest words! But what does your argument prove? (Job 6:25)
6. McConnell warns AOC, Schumer, Pelosi aim to 'blow up' Constitution to get their way - Washington Examiner
In a sweeping blow against growing Democratic efforts to squelch conservative voices and force progressive policies and programs on a wary nation, McConnell warned that the left is ready to "blow up" decades of rules to get their way on issues like the environment and Medicare for all.
"Progressives are openly acknowledging they'll never get their agenda through the constitutional machinery as it's operated for centuries, so they've concluded it's the constitutional machinery that has to go. Change the rules if you can't win otherwise," he said in a well-received speech at Hillsdale College late Monday.
In the address, McConnell called on Middle America to fight back. "We all need to fight back against this toxic, counter-constitutional, anti-speech trend in our nation's institutions and in each of our personal lives. Every American should discipline ourselves to remember the difference between simple disagreement and permanent outrage, and avoid being part of the problem. Avoid being part of that problem," the Kentucky lawmaker said. (Read more)
- Father, we pray every citizen will truly understand the stakes in the next election - and choose to support candidates who support the Constitution of the United States.
- This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men. (Titus 3:8)
7. Trump To Give Tiger Woods Presidential Medal Of Freedom After Winning The Masters - Daily Caller
President Donald Trump said he will award professional golfer Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom after winning The Masters on Sunday. Trump said he called Woods to congratulate him on his "great victory," and also informed him that he would be presenting Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his "incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE."
Woods and Trump have known each other for many years. Before winning his fifth Masters, Trump predicted Woods would win, complementing the way he had been playing. Sunday's win was Woods' 15th major championship win. (Read more)
- Father, we thank You for this inspiring story of redemption and pray Tiger Woods will honor You for his second chance at greatness.
- Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (1 Peter 5:6)
8. Pompeo on Latin America's Shift Away From the Left: 'It's Glorious' - CNS News
The people of Latin America are shunning totalitarian communism and "it's glorious," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday as he wrapped up a visit to a region where the "21st century socialism" championed by the late Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez is in decline.
Pompeo said he believes people in the region appreciate that they should interact and do business with countries that share their values of "freedom, faith, liberty, rule of law." Those themes featured prominently during Pompeo's visit, which included stops in Paraguay, Peru, Chile, and Colombia.
"A wave of democratization is sweeping the continent, and it's coupled with anti-corruption movements and a healthy dose of something no nation can live without: common sense," he said in a speech in the Chilean capital, Santiago. Conservatives have also come to power in formerly leftist-ruled Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Honduras.
"China, Russia - They will use debt traps, they will disregard rules, and they will spread disorder in your home. Thankfully, you all, South America, is not buying it. You should know that the United States will stand behind you." In an interview with VOA Spanish while in Paraguay, Pompeo underlined the nature of the regimes supportive Maduro - not just Russia and China, but also Cuba, which he said was running Maduro's security apparatus, and Iran. (Read more)
- Father, we thank You for this great progress in Central and South America and we pray these peoples will experience safety and prosperity through conservative principles and good governance.
- But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. (Psalm 37:11)
9. Islamic State Plan for Series of [Bataclan] Massacres Across Europe - Breitbart
In a letter to the Islamic State's self-appointed caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi uncovered by The Sunday Times, six jihadist leaders describe how they will use a number of so-called "crocodile cells" to acquire funds for terrorist operations through violent crime and perpetrate mass-casualty terrorist attacks against European civilians.
"Killing infidel venture capitalists, hacking banks through bank accounts, bank robberies or robberies of places that are pre-studied" will be some of the tactics used to accrue resources, the letter explains. The director of the cells, based in Germany and Russia but operating across Europe, is identified as one Abu Khabab al-Muhajir, with specific targets including German passenger trains and a petroleum refinery oil pipeline near Basel, Switzerland.
The letter also describes how radical Islamic terrorists will be smuggled into Europe from the territory once occupied by al-Baghdadi's shattered caliphate and the wider Middle East, Caucasus, and Central Asia regions posing as regular migrants. (Read more)
- Father, we pray You will assist the authorities to stop these terrorist acts from happening. We also pray for an awakening throughout Europe and an understanding that each person needs to turn their hearts to You.
- "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
10. Ivanka Trump eyes laws, customs holding back African women - AP
The president's daughter and senior adviser, on a four-day trip to promote a White House global women's project, spoke about roadblocks for women during a policy discussion with Ethiopia's president and after signing a joint statement with the African Union Commission.
In the agreement, the United States and the African Union Commission pledged to help empower women and to fight problems such as child marriage, human trafficking and sexual abuse. Trump highlighted the "collective goal" to eliminate gender-based violence and stressed the shared focus on improving access to education and business opportunities.
During the event, Trump and David Bohigian, acting director of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, announced a new financing initiative for women in Africa. Known as OPIC 2X Africa, the effort will directly invest $350 million - and seek additional private investment - in businesses and funds owned by women, led by women or working to help women. OPIC provides loans, loan guarantees and political risk insurance, funding projects that stretch across continents and industries. (Read more)
- Father, we pray these new opportunities will lift millions of Africans out of poverty and help them live happy, productive lives.
- Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice. (Psalm 112:5)

Standing against human trafficking Part 2
The horrors of human trafficking are real and occur every day. As Pastor William Agbeti in Ghana points out, much of the human trafficking, the sex slave trade, and, yes, even the human body part market are centered in Islamic countries in the Middle East. We left off in yesterday's Daily Jot saying that victims of the sex slave trade often do not know who their captives are or where they are being kept. Agbeti writes: "When they become sick, they are not treated. When they die, their bodies are dumped." The human trafficking story in Ghana is also part of the similar story that is occurring right now on the US-Mexican border because leftist politicians refuse to address the issue. But it gets even worse, according to Agbeti.
Agbeti writes: "A much more heart-rending offshoot of this business that we are learning about of late involves a booming trade in human parts! In this business, operators deliver girls to slaughter houses abroad and their vital parts are harvested and sold for top dollars! We hear an organ like the heart fetches over $100,000! Our young girl has been very fortunate and thanks to the DAILY JOT, she happens to be the very first girl in her entire village to attend school. Her siblings and several girls in her home town have no hope and opportunity like she has had. She is the talk of the village! She knows what it means to receive help and education. Already, she has dreams of working to help young girls go to school or have vocational training.
There is no end to the evil that is in the world. Slavery in any form is a detestable evil. Taking young girls, however, and selling them into sex slavery, then not treating them when they are sick, or sending them to slaughter houses to harvest their organs is beyond the imagination of most of us. What we have done in our Ghana ministry by helping just one escape this fate is monumental. There are many people that are risking their lives each day to rescue youngsters from the evil that befalls them in these slave syndicates. But who funds and benefits from these slave markets? It is repeatedly reported that Islam organizes, grows and profits from human trafficking and slave trade. It has for centuries and it continues. I just don't get it when politicians and even religious leaders like the Pope say Jews and Christians and Muslims serve the same God.
Have a blessed and powerful day,

Alert for Denver area schools:
Denver-area school districts cancel classes amid 'credible threat' of woman 'infatuated' with Columbine shooting
Multiple Denver-area school districts have canceled classes for Wednesday after a Miami woman "infatuated" with the 1999 Columbine massacre made threats and traveled to Colorado where she bought firearms earlier this week, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the FBI.
Sol Pais, 18, who has a history of making "concerning" comments, arrived in Colorado from Miami early Monday and bought a pump action shotgun and ammunition, the FBI told reporters Tuesday evening. The FBI's Miami office had reportedly alerted its Denver counterpart after learning of the potential threat.
After consulting with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies, Denver Public Schools, Douglas County School District, 27J Schools, Adams 12 Five Star, Aurora Public Schools, Englewood Schools, Jefferson County Schools and Cherry Creek Schools decided to cancel classes for Wednesday, the Denver Channel reported.
Authorities said Pais was last seen in the foothills of Denver and remains at large. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is currently leading multiple agencies in a massive manhunt. While no warrant has been issued for her arrest, the FBI said that district attorneys and the U.S. attorney's office are discussing appropriate charges.
The FBI's Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force issued a notice Tuesday describing Pais as "infatuated with (the) Columbine school shooting." The alert said police who come into contact with her should detain her and evaluate her mental health.
More than 20 schools -- including Columbine -- were put on lockouts Tuesday, meaning classes were conducted as usual, but entry and exits were heavily restricted for nearly three hours. (Fox News)

- Father, we pray that this woman be found quickly and detained; and we ask for the safety of all school children who reside in the Denver area. Amen.

Preparing for Passover

Preparing for Passover
The following is a message received today by one of our readers. Thank you, Kelsey!
Hello all --
I wanted to share a nugget on Passover (as Pam was musing this Holy Week). I'm not an expert on the Jewish holidays like our amazing Yolanda and Jon, but Holy Spirit has been speaking about the "preparation for Passover" the last week or so. How do we actually prepare for the Holy Week.
When we moved into our new house a couple years ago in April, we met our dear Jewish neighbor in bed garage as she was "sweeping the leaven out" of her house. That's how they prepare - sweeping the house.
Our family has been led to "sweep the house" on all levels this week . . . to repent and make even the little things right in relationships, in our hearts with the Lord, the inner thoughts, everything. We want to get even those "dust bunnies of leaven" that sit unnoticed all year long.
Today I sensed we all should take a moment to consider sweeping our hearts, homes, and workplaces/ministries in preparation for Passover/Holy Week. "Clean hands and a pure heart" is the only way to ascend the hill of the Lord. It will be the safe place of rest in the days to come.
These are merciful days!! Days of preparation for what He's going to do - days where we cleanse our hearts to join in a collective cry "let my people go!"
Love and grace to you all this week. May you experience the mercy and favor of God in this season!
Kelsey
