"Standing United Together . . . Under the Cross of Christ"

ALERT - NOW!

Hundreds of thousands rally nationwide for illegal immigrant families separated at border

[Editor's note: as expected, and as announced in our Daily Briefs last week, the masses are NOW marching on the streets in the cities of our land, protesting the President's border policy. Please take note, pass this word on to other, like-minded believers, and pray. Thank you.]

The voices of hundreds of thousands of people rang nationwide on Saturday calling for the reunification of hundreds of children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Protesters chanted "shut detention down!" as they marched in New York City's Foley Square while in El Paso, Texas, hundreds marched toward the Paso Del Norte (Santa Fe) Bridge that crosses into Juarez, Mexico. More than 600 events were planned across the country.

"We're here because there are parents out there who can't sing lullabies to their kids, so we're going to sing on their behalf until they can sing together," Tony-winning actor Lin-Manuel Miranda told a crowd in the nation's capital.
From immigrant-friendly cities like New York City and Los Angeles to conservative Appalachia and Wyoming, protesters are rallying under the Families Belong Together banner, pushing against Trump's controversial "zero tolerance" policy that has seen some 2,000 families separated after crossing into the U.S. illegally from Mexico.
Tyler Houlton, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, welcomed interest in the immigration system and said only Congress has the power to change the law.

"We appreciate that these individuals have expressed an interest in and concern with the critical issue of securing our nation's borders and enforcing our immigration laws," Houlton said. "As we have indicated before, the department is disappointed and frustrated by our nation's disastrous immigration laws and supports action."

Trump took to Twitter on Saturday morning to show his support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement amid calls from some Democrats for major changes to immigration enforcement.

Tweeting from New Jersey, Trump said that Democrats "are making a strong push to abolish ICE, one of the smartest, toughest and most spirited law enforcement groups of men and women that I have ever seen." He urged ICE agents to "not worry or lose your spirit."

Although many who show up will be seasoned anti-Trump demonstrators, others will be new to immigration activism, including parents who say they feel compelled to show up after heart-wrenching accounts of children forcibly taken from their families as they crossed the border illegally. In Portland, Oregon, for example, several stay-at-home moms have organized their first rally while caring for young kids.

"I'm not a radical, and I'm not an activist," said Kate Sharaf, a Portland co-organizer. "I just reached a point where I felt I had to do more." (Fox News) Read more.

- Father God, we hear the anger and the frustration of those who are now marching in our streets, to protest President Trump's policy to deal with these illegal border crossers and their families. We come against the lies and the false narrative being promulgated by George Soros and many other sources which have caused this hysteria to visit our land. We speak peace . . . SHALOM . . . to these marchers and we thank You that You are in control and that Your SHALOM is still found in the midst of this chaos. In Your Name, amen.

"I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel's mourners, creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near," says the LORD. "And I will heal them." (Isaiah 57:1,19)

"Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria:

'He shall not come into this city,
Nor shoot an arrow there,
Nor come before it with shield,
Nor build a siege mound against it.

By the way that he came,
By the same shall he return;
And he shall not come into this city,'
Says the Lord.

'For I will defend this city, to save it
For My own sake and for My servant David's sake.' "
(2 Kings 19:32-34)
"When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19)

The Heat Wave

Scorching, long-duration heat wave to roast much of U.S.

uly is typically the hottest month of the year, for both the U.S. and the planet as a whole. However, this year it is going to start off particularly hot across the country, as a dangerous heat wave stretches from Arizona to Maine.

Why it matters: The heat and humidity will combine to create life-threatening conditions in many cities, particularly in the Midwest and Northeast, where heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are in effect.

The cause: A sprawling and unusually intense area of high pressure aloft, also known as a "heat dome," will promote sinking air and sunny, storm-free conditions for areas under its influence.

At the peak of the heat wave between July 1 and the Fourth of July holiday, more than 50% of the lower 48 states are forecast to see high temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The sweaty details: Some cities, including Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, and Nashville, could all see temperatures reach or exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 10 to 20 degrees above average for this time of year. (Axios) Read more.
- Lord God Almighty, we do ask for relief from this dangerous heat wave, now encompassing almost half of our nation. Lord God, please keep all safe from this weather, especially the very young and the very old. We cry out in repentance for our sins, and ask for Your hand of mercy to visit us, yet once again. As hundreds of thousands of our citizens observe the Call2Fall tomorrow, we ask the You hear and receive our repentance. In Your name, amen.
- "Now therefore, amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the Lord your God; then the Lord will relent concerning the doom that He has pronounced against you." (Jeremiah 26:13)
Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his [d]counselors, "Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?"

They answered and said to the king, "True, O king."

"Look!" he answered, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."
(Daniel 3:24, 25)

The Shooting in Annapolis

Five dead in 'targeted attack' at Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis

A gunman blasted his way into the Capital Gazette newsroom in Annapolis with a shotgun Thursday afternoon, killing five people, authorities said. Journalists dived under their desks and pleaded for help on social media. One reporter described the scene as a "war zone." A photographer said he jumped over a dead colleague and fled for his life.

The victims were identified as Rob Hiaasen, 59, a former feature writer for The Baltimore Sun who joined the Capital Gazette in 2010 as an assistant editor and columnist; Wendi Winters, 65, a community correspondent who headed special publications; Gerald Fischman, 61, the editorial page editor; John McNamara, 56, a staff writer who had covered high school, college and professional sports for decades; and Rebecca Smith, 34, a sales assistant hired in November.

Two others were injured in the attack that began about 2:40 p.m. at the Capital Gazette offices at 888 Bestgate Road in Annapolis. Police took a suspect into custody soon after the shootings. He was identified as Jarrod W. Ramos, a 38-year-old Laurel man with a long-standing grudge against the paper.

"This was a targeted attack on the Capital Gazette," said Anne Arundel County Deputy Police Chief William Krampf. "This person was prepared today to come in. He was prepared to shoot people." (Capitol Gazette) Read more

Trump: Journalists should be free from fear of violent attacks - The Hill
President Trump on Friday lamented the "horrific" shooting at The Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Md., saying journalists in the United States should not have to face grave danger.

"This attack shocked the conscience of our nation and filled our hearts with grief," Trump said at a White House event celebrating his tax-cut law. "Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their job."

Trump vowed his administration "will not rest until we have done everything in our power to reduce violent crime and to protect innocent life."

He also extended condolences to the families of the victims, offering "our warmest, best wishes and regrets." (Read more)
- Father God, we join our president in extending condolences to the families of the victims of this horrible shooting. We ask that You would use this tragedy for good, causing all who work in both print and broadcast media to stop and take stock: eternity is but a breath away. "Am I ready to meet my Maker?" Show them the way, dear Lord, show them the way. Amen.
- "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment . . ." (Hebrews 9:27)

Abortion Challenge May Loom After Supreme Court Retirement

Father, we ask you to prepare the heart, even now, of the person you have chosen for the next U.S. Supreme Court justice. Prepare them for the confirmation process to come, and for their time on the Court.

Father, we ask that you give President Trump wisdom in making his selection that he has said he will announce on Monday, July 9. Father, give him the questions to ask to make your purposes clear for him in this time.
Father, we ask your wisdom for the Senate in giving their advice and consent to this nomination. Father, open doors even now for conversations that would steer our jurisprudence and national conversation closer to You.
Father, we ask You to stand in the way and scatter those who would oppose your person to be the next justice of the Supreme Court.
Father, we pray for the remaining members of the Supreme Court as they deal with the departure of their friend, Justice Kennedy, and as they prepare for the new justice joining them.
Father, we pray for the American people as they learn anew about the nation's highest court. Father, give us clarity as to what should be the purpose and scope of our Supreme Court, and may we clearly see You working your purposes among us.
Father, we pray for the media. Father, give them open hearts to clearly present your message about the nominee and the Court. Father, may they not allow lies to go forth to the American people about any person or issue in this time and process.
“He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.” (Daniel 2:21)
