"PHOTOS: Inside Shelter for Illegal Alien Children Separated from Parents"

By Joel Pollak; Breitbart News

PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK TO READ THE ORIGINAL STORY, TO VIEW THE PHOTOS OF THE EL CAJON SHELTER FOR ILLEGAL ALIEN CHILDREN, AND TO SEE THE 3:53 MINUTE VIDEO OF THE SHELTER.

The Department of Health and Human Services hosted Breitbart News and other media on a tour of a facility in El Cajon, California, on Friday where migrant children are being sheltered after being separated from their parents.

The children are separated from their parents - or, to be precise, from the adults accompanying them, who may or may not be their parents - when their parents cross the southern U.S. border illegally and are caught and detained.

Previously, under the "catch-and-release" policy, the adults would be released. Under the "zero tolerance" policy of the Trump administration, the adults are being detained and prosecuted. Children cannot be incarcerated with them.

However, families that arrive together at legal ports of entry and apply for asylum status are generally not split up and are permitted to stay in the U.S. pending the adjudication of their applications (which can take several years).

The facility at El Cajon, however, is not a "cage." It is a comfortable facility providing lodging, meals, clothing, medical care, education, recreation, counseling, and other services.
It is run by a nonprofit organization called Southwest Key as part of the Department of Health and Human Services' Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) Program, run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in the Administration for Children and Families (ACF).

The facility is located on a main street in a quiet, suburban neighborhood. It has 65 beds, occupied by boys ages 6 to 17. The rooms are spare, with three to four beds in each; the boys are responsible for cleaning the rooms and making their own beds. There is an outdoor recreation area with picnic tables and a small soccer pitch.

There is a classroom area, and English lessons. The goal is "reunification": letting each child depart with a legal guardian.

Some 90% of the children at the shelter arrived at the border without adults; the other 10% were separated from the adults accompanying them. Once the children arrive - usually brought by U.S. Border Patrol agents - they are greeted in the "intake" office, where they receive any urgent medical care, are assigned a case worker, and are given food, a shower, and new clothing. They are also given toiletries and lessons in hygiene - literally how to flush a toilet, brush their teeth, and operate the shower, which some of the children may have never seen in their lives.

The children receive six hours of education daily, which include lessons in English and physical education. The boys interact with girls who are housed offsite and brought to the shelter during the day to access its services.

They have limited access to telephones to call relatives, both in the U.S. and abroad. They receive therapy, both as individuals and in group sessions. They enjoy field trips to local museums, parks, and the zoo, where they can explore the city beyond the shelter. And they also have social activities, including a recent "prom" for which they dressed up.
"Cages," these are not. What is immediately striking about the facility is the enthusiasm and care of the staff who work there. One administrator greeted the journalists on the tour: "Welcome to our home." The children at the facility seemed genuinely happy, despite their unfortunate circumstances and the trauma of their long journey.
Southwest Key has operated its facilities - 27 in total, across California, Arizona, and Texas - since 1997, when the U.S. Supreme Court decided in Flores v. Reno that unaccompanied illegal alien minors could not be held in detention facilities. This is not a new problem, even though it took Trump to make the media realize it existed.

1. Abbas aide slams reported US plans to raise funds for Gaza - AP News

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) - A Palestinian official has condemned reported U.S. plans to secure Gulf funding for major economic projects in blockaded, impoverished Gaza.

Nabil Abu Rdeneh, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, alleged Monday that such efforts aim to further separate the Gaza and the West Bank which flank Israel. Abbas runs parts of the West Bank and the Islamic militant Hamas controls Gaza.

Israel, citing security, has prevented most travel between the two territories sought for a Palestinian state.

There were no immediate reports of injuries on either side of the border.

4. Report: Iranian- Backed Syrian Militias Change Uniforms, Head Toward Golan- Jerusalem Post

Hezbollah and Iranian- backed Shi'ite militias are concentrating in an area dubbed the "triangle of death" near the Golan Heights, as the Syrian regime prepares its major post-Ramadan offensive.

The offensive is designed to defeat the rebels in southern Syria and has raised concerns in Jerusalem, Washington, Moscow and Amman as a potential crisis looms.

This comes as Israel continues warning the Syrian regime to remove Iranian forces from the country.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he reiterated Israel's demand that Iran withdraw from all of Syria, in conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo over the weekend.

The Daily Brief

1. Fireworks expected as DOJ watchdog Horowitz, FBI boss Wray face Senate Judiciary for hearing- Fox News

FBI Director Christopher Wray and Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz are expected to be the centers of attention Monday when they testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Horowitz's bombshell report on the FBI's investigation of Hillary Clinton's personal email server.

Horowitz's report, released Thursday, singled out then-FBI Director James Comey for harsh criticism and referred five other bureau employees for potential disciplinary action.

Most notably, Horowitz found that anti-Trump text messages between FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page "potentially indicated or created the appearance that investigative decisions were impacted by bias or improper considerations."

However, the report also noted the FBI's decision not to prosecute Clinton in July 2016 was not motivated by political bias against then-candidate Donald Trump. In one text exchange from August 2016, Page texted Strzok: "[Trump's] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!"

"No. No he won't. We'll stop it," Strzok responded. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that justice will come to this entire situation, and that You will remove all anti-Trump players from the government. If they cannot be objective, then let them be removed.

- "The wicked are overthrown and are no more." (Proverbs 12:7a)

2. GOP will hit FBI, DOJ with 'full arsenal of constitutional weapons' if they don't comply with subpoena, Gowdy warns - Fox News

House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy told "Fox News Sunday" that House Speaker Paul Ryan led a meeting Friday night with senior members of the DOJ and FBI, and made it clear that "there's going to be action on the floor of the House this week if FBI and DOJ do not comply with our subpoena request."

The House Judiciary Committee has requested more than a million documents from the FBI and DOJ relating to the Hillary Clinton email probe, the firing of former top FBI official Andrew McCabe, and reported surveillance of a Trump aide during the 2016 presidential election. But Republicans have accused the DOJ and FBI of stonewalling and intentionally impeding their investigation, despite the agencies' claims that fulfilling the request requires a careful review of the sensitive documents.

Gowdy, R-S.C., said the GOP's action could involve "the full panoply of constitutional weapons available to the people's house." (Read more)

- Lord we are constantly amazed at the stonewalling of the FBI and DOJ. We pray that You will move to bring truth to light and not allow any changes to the documents being requested.

- "Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; though they join forces, none will go unpunished." (Proverbs 16:5)

3. Exclusive - Steve King: Republican House Members Considering Forcibly Removing Paul Ryan from Speakership - Breitbart

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told Breitbart News Tonight earlier this week that House Republicans are considering forcibly removing House Speaker Paul Ryan from the speakership via a "motion to vacate the chair" over Ryan's efforts to undermine President Donald Trump's agenda. "It's kind of odd that he has as much power as he has," King said of Ryan during the appearance on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel with Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak on Breitbart News Tonight earlier this week. "But I do predict, and it is happening, that that power is diminishing. I also have got information that there are-I'll say 'members'-I say that plurally, with knowledge, that are considering introducing a motion to vacate the chair. If they do that, that will throw this place into a tizzy and force the kind of election for a Speaker that may bring out someone who is a lot stronger on this."

A motion to vacate the chair would call a referendum on Ryan's speakership to the floor. It could force a vote on whether Republicans want Ryan to remain as speaker as a lame duck for the rest of the year, especially after all these failures in strategy and his efforts to undermine the president with an amnesty bill that the president opposes and said he "certainly" would never sign.

Ryan claimed, falsely, to House Republican members recently in a conference meeting that the president did support the Ryan amnesty bill-something the president confirmed on Fox and Friends on Friday morning was not true. The president opposes the bill and Ryan's continued claims that Trump did back the bill are now proven to be false. (Read more)

- Lord, we've known for some time that Paul Ryan has some issues against the President. We pray that Your will be done in this matter of his position, but that You would work on his heart.

- "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you." (Ezekiel 36:26a)

4.Thousands of DACA recipients with arrest records, including 10 accused murderers, allowed to stay in US - Fox News

Nearly 60,000 immigrants with arrest records -- including 10 accused of murder -- have been allowed to stay in the United States under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed Monday.

According to DHS, 59,786 DACA recipients have been arrested while in the U.S. -- approximately 7.8 percent of all who have been approved to remain in this country under the program since it was created in 2012. Of those, 53,792 were arrested before their most recent request for a so-called "grant of deferred action" was approved. Another 7,814 were arrested after their request was approved.

The DHS statistics do not indicate how many of the arrested immigrants were convicted of crimes, nor do they indicate whether charges were reduced or dropped. They also do not indicate how many arrested DACA recipients were deported as the result of a conviction.

Francis Cissna, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) director, told "Fox & Friends" the agency wants to release as much data about DACA as possible for the public and lawmakers to be informed. "I would like people to keep in mind . . . whatever they do, I would hope that we, at USCIS, would be able to turn down these people . . . if we think they're a public safety threat . . . if someone is a gang member . . . even if they don't have a conviction," Cissna said. (Read more)

- Lord, this is unacceptable for these kinds of criminals to be allowed to stay in the United States. We ask that You help our leaders fix the immigration system to keep these dangers out of America.

- "You have delivered me from the violent man." (Psalm 18:48c)

5. Obama Presidential Center Will Cost (Illinois) Taxpayers Almost $200 Million - Western Journal

Illinois taxpayers will cough up almost $200 million as part of the state's plan to improve the area around the Obama Presidential Center, which will be constructed on the South Side of Chicago.

Earlier this month, Gov. Bruce Rauner signed off on a bill that included $174 million for road work near the project and another $50 million to repair a rail stop, the Washington Examiner reported.

"Bringing the Obama Presidential Center to Chicago took leadership and vision, and we are gratified that our partners in Springfield also saw the potential for what this means for all of Illinois. The state's $174 million investment in infrastructure improvements near the Obama Center on the South Side of Chicago is money well spent," Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement that was released Friday as ground was broken for the rail stop project.

The rail stop project is supported by state and federal tax dollars through a federal grant matched with state money. Emanuel was a one-time chief of staff to former President Barack Obama.

The Obama Center is still in the process of getting all local, state and federal approvals. One issue that has emerged is that the 23-story center would eat up a slice of historic Jackson Park. Some opponents of the project want the center to build on private land. (Read more)

- Father, we ask that if this center is not in Your plan for taxpayers in Chicago, you will not allow them to continue it.

- "There are many plans in a man's heart, nevertheless the Lord's counsel - that will stand." (Proverbs 19:21)

6. Supreme Court strikes down Minnesota law prohibiting voters from wearing political apparel to polls - Fox News

The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down Minnesota's broad ban on wearing "political apparel" at the polls, ruling the law violates the free speech rights of voters.

The 7-2 ruling said despite any "good intentions" by the state, regulation of such individual expression cannot be reasonably applied because of overly sweeping prohibitions.

A Minnesota voter had sued after being told to remove a "Please I.D. Me" button and Tea Party shirt at his polling place. He argued such "passive, non-disruptive" expression should be allowed, while the state said the restrictions were a "reasonable, viewpoint-neutral" means to ensure polling integrity and reduce voter coercion. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for this win for free speech in Minnesota, which will allow people to wear whatever they choose to the polls.

- "Righteousness exalts a nation." (Proverbs 14: 34a)

7. Appellate Court Reinstates Doctor Assisted Suicide in California - NBC News

A state appeals court has reinstated - at least for now - California's law allowing terminally ill people to end their lives. The Fourth District Court of Appeals in Riverside issued an immediate stay Friday putting the End of Life Option back into effect. The court also gave opponents of its decision until July 2 to file objections. The law allows adults to obtain a prescription for life-ending drugs if a doctor has determined that they have six months or less to live.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Daniel Ottolia declared the law unconstitutional last month, stating that it had been adopted illegally because lawmakers passed it during a special legislative session called to address other matters. Ottolia didn't address the issue of whether it's proper for people to end their lives. (Read more)

- Father, we are grieved to see the continual actions of the state of California that go against Your Word. We ask that further court rulings stop this law.

- "These six thing the Lord hates, yes seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a hear that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among the brethren." (Proverbs 6:16-19)

8. Trump directs creation of 'space force' as sixth branch of military - ABC7 News/San Francisco

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has ordered the creation of a new military branch, adding the "Space Force" to the Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

"It is not enough to merely have an American presence in space, we must have American dominance in space. Very importantly I'm hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a space force as the sixth branch of the armed forces, that is a big statement," Trump said at a meeting of the National Space Council on Monday. "We are going to have the Air Force and we are going to have the space force, separate but equal, it is going to be something." (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that You be in the center of any creation of a new branch of the military. China and Russia have surpassed our capabilites in many areas, so we do pray that You shore up our protection in that area. We place our trust and hope in You to do what needs to be done with any military work in space.

- "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7)

9. School District Will No Longer Acknowledge "Biological Sex"- Todd Starnes

One of the nation's largest school districts has decided to toss scientific fact out the window for the sake of tolerance and nondiscrimination.

The Fairfax County school board in Virginia approved a new sex education policy that removes references to "biological sex" and replaces it with "sex assigned at birth."

"A lot of the people who are opposed to the change are making the point that what we want the kids to learn is biology, not ideology," Rev. Thomas Ferguson, of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington told NBC television.

While the school district may have overwhelming approved the changes, parents were overwhelmingly opposed. According to the school district, they received 1,318 emails regarding the changes. 941 emails opposed to the use of the term "sex assigned at birth."

Parents were also opposed to removing language that states abstinence is the only 100 percent effective method to elimination sexuality transmitted infections. (Read more)

- Father, have mercy on America for the sins that are being openly displayed. Our children are in peril; even adults are confused and deceived as well. We repent and ask You to move mightily to change the hearts of all Americans.

- "In wrath remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2d)

10. Ex-Gays Sound the Alarm Over California's Dangerous New Bill - Charisma

A group of former homosexuals and ministry leaders rallied on the steps of a California courthouse Tuesday to protest a bill that threatens to ban Christian books and resources which address issues of homosexuality and gender identity.

If passed, AB2943 will criminalize "sexual orientation change efforts" by making it illegal to distribute resources, sell books, offer counseling services or direct someone to a biblically-based model for getting help with gender confusion and homosexuality.

In contrast, the bill supports counseling that offers encouragement towards "exploration and development" of same-sex attractions.

The bill's supporters believe the bill will protect the LGBT community, but former homosexual and Pulse Nightclub shooting survivor Luis Ruiz said he needed the church the most during the lowest point of his life. (Read more)

- Father, we understand from those who have been on site at this rally, that the hearts of the legislators in Sacramento remained hardened and determined to pass this bill. The Senate Judiciary Committee has now passed AB 2943. We ask that You, Holy One, would send forth Your angels to stop this bill from passage in the full Senate. Father, we ask that You move to defeat this bill in California. We ask that You cause Your people to continue to rise and stand against this plan. Let not sin reign among us. We stand in the gap, in repentance, in Your name, amen.

- "Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored; renew our days as of old." (Lam. 5:21)

11. Death Threat, Suspicious White Powder Mailed to U.S. Ambassador to Canada - Breitbart

Authorities are investigating a suspicious letter filled with a "white powder" substance sent to U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft.

"An email sent to all embassy staff say the incident happened around 10:30 yesterday morning after an off-site mailroom supervisor 'encountered white powder while screening a letter addressed to the Ambassador,' Kelly Craft," CTV News reports.

The package, sent to Craft's residence in Ottawa, included a letter threatening to kill the 56-year-old unless she stepped down as Ambassador. The letter also included an expletive-filled rant against President Donald Trump.

The letter may have been sent from Quebec, the host province of the G7 Summit in Charlevoix held last week. A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Canada says the white powder tested non-harmful.

On Friday, Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland met with Craft and called the situation "wholly unacceptable." (Read more)

- Lord, thank You that this white powder was harmless, but we ask You to protect our Ambassador from any further attempts, harmless or not.

- "You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness." (Psalm 91: 5,6a)

FBI report and coup attempt

The news is abuzz with the Inspector Generals report on the FBI abuse of power. No smoking gun, but all those who want to see President Trump drummed out of office. Read into what you want, but from my perspective there was a deep-state, Democratic Party conspiracy going on-using people on the taxpayer dole-to prevent Trump from becoming President. It appears as though the entire "Russian" narrative is accusing Trump of exactly what his opponents were doing. Moreover, they are using this narrative to impeach a duly elected president. If, for example, the Democrats take control of the House and/or Senate, expect Trump to be impeached. The FBI report gives insight to an ongoing coup attempt.

In February 2017, The Daily Jot reported about the genesis of a coup. My ministry partner of 26 years, William Agbeti, has been through six coups d'état in Ghana spanning from 1966 through 1981. Only one failed. I asked him to analyze the factors of those coups and compare them with the current situation in America to see if there were similarities. He said, "All the FACTORS that play out for coups d'état are currently PRESENT in the US. Most of these FACTORS are oftentimes masterminded. The stage is being set for perhaps America's first coup d'état." Agbeti went on to identify the various indicators already in place that may contribute to an overthrow of the US government in some form or another.

Agbeti says, "Coup makers in Ghana belonged to one, part or all of the following categories of persons: disgruntled leaders, power-drunk individuals, stoogies fronting for organized criminals, over-ambitious adventurers, ex-heads of state with unfinished agendas, opposition members who have created a shadow government, die-hard individuals with sympathetic ears to foreign powers desirous of entrenching and superimposing their interests (or way of life) on a nation. Master minds, employing state oppression as an excuse, using mainstream mass media, institutions, and instigating groups of people to pour out into the streets to create well-organized mass revolts, easily paved the way for successful coups. These master minds belonged to shadow governments with hidden agendas."

The FBI report, the various other reports by Congress, even the Mueller Special Counsel investigation, so far have done nothing to verify Trump collusion with Russia to undermine the election. In fact, all criminal charges to date have nothing to do with Trump's campaign. Revealed, however, is how the FBI and the previous White House used the secret FISA court to spy on Trump, the visceral of FBI agents against Trump and in favor of Hillary Clinton, and general deep state chicanery. There is a stronghold over our nation aimed at keeping its power. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 says, "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds." We the People need to recognize this for what it is, and pray and act against it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Focus on the Migrant Crisis

1. President Trump: U.S. Won't Become a 'Migrant Camp' - Washington Times

"President Trump challenged Democrats to 'come to the table' to fix the country's immigration system, saying Monday that the current battle is over whether the U.S. should have borders," Stephen Dinan reports in The Washington Times. The President said that "if Congress can find agreement on a way to update what he called the 'worst immigration laws in the entire world' it could be a trendsetting move for the rest of the globe," Dinan adds. 2. Trump digs in on immigration amid family separation crisis - AP

Facing a rising tide of outrage from Democrats and some Republicans over the forced separation of migrant children and parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, President Donald Trump dug in Monday, again blaming Democrats in the escalating political crisis.

Democrats have turned up the pressure over the policy, and some Republicans have joined the chorus of criticism. Former first lady Laura Bush has called the policy "cruel" and "immoral" while GOP Sen. Susan Collins expressed concern about it and a former adviser to Trump questioned using the policy to pressure Democrats on immigration legislation. (Read more)

3. Media spins child immigrant centers as 'concentration camps' - OneNewsNow

America's leftist pro-immigration mainstream media has been pushing its anti-Trump narrative that detention centers for illegal immigrant children are "concentration camps."

The claim that the Trump administration is running concentration camps - for immigrant children who enter the United States alone or for those whose parents are being processed by the U.S. government - was recently made by two MSNBC analysts . . . The new branding, which Trump would classify as more "fake news," was soon spread via social media. (Read more)

4. Kellyanne Conway: 'If I Commit a Crime, and I Am Put in Jail,' My Children Are Separated from Their Mother - CNSNews.com

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, defended the administration following the law by separating children from parents who illegally enter the country, telling NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday that as a mother, if she had committed a crime and went to jail, her children would be separated from her.

"But that happens in our country as well," Conway said in responding to questions about the administration enforcing immigration law by arresting illegal border crossers.

"In other words, if I commit a crime and I am put in jail, my four children are separated from their mother, because we don't have a policy -- why would you want the children in jail with their parents?" she said.

"You want them in a facility temporarily or you want them to be repatriated back to their home country, with said parent, or you want them to come into this country with a responsible adult who you know, who the authorities are confident means that child no harm, won't get them in an MS-13 gang, won't subject them to trafficking or rape, or worse," Conway said. 5. DHS Secretary Nielsen: Past Administrations 'Absolutely' Separated Illegal Immigrant Families - CNSNews.com

Separating illegal immigrant families at the border is not unique to the Trump administration, according to DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

She said that contrary to media reports, previous administrations also separated illegal immigrant families at the border, not just the Trump administration. During Monday's White House press briefing, Nielsen was peppered with questions regarding the administration's policy of handling illegal immigrant families at the border.

NBC News White House Correspondent Kristen Welker claimed separation of families at the border didn't occur until Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a zero-tolerance policy. "This never happened before he announced the zero-tolerance policy," Welker said. However, Nielsen said the administrations of Barack Obama administration and George W. Bush both separated families at the border. (Read more)

- Lord God, this situation has gotten out of control because the enemies of our nation have now launched an all-out assault against our borders, seeking to overwhelm our people. We thank You, Lord, that You have placed a man in office who will defend our borders, no matter what it takes. We ask You to forgive the perpetrators of "fake" and distorted news, for they know not what they do. We ask Your wisdom to guide President Trump in following through with his policy, while addressing the humanitarian needs that have arisen. Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer, amen.

- "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19)
"He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate." (Isaiah 28:6)

Classic Hymns

ABIDE WITH ME

"They urged Him strongly, 'Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.'" (Luke 24:29)

Lyrics

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word; But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord, Familiar, condescending, patient, free. Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings, But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings, Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea- Come, Friend of sinners, and thus bide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile; And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile, Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee, On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Lyte was inspired to write this hymn as he was dying of tuberculosis; he finished it the Sunday he gave his farewell sermon in the parish he served so many years. The next day, he left for Italy to regain his health. He didn't make it, though-he died in Nice, France, three weeks after writing these words. Here is an excerpt from his farewell sermon:

O brethren, I stand here among you today, as alive from the dead, if I may hope to impress it upon you, and induce you to prepare for that solemn hour which must come to all, by a timely acquaintance with the death of Christ.
For over a century, the bells of his church at All Saints in Lower Brixham, Devonshire, have rung out "Abide with Me" daily. The hymn was sung at the wedding of King George VI, at the wedding of his daughter, the future Queen Elizabeth II, and at the funeral of Nobel peace prize winner Mother Teresa of Calcutta in1997.
This tune was written at a time of great sorrow-when together we watched, as we did daily, the glories of the setting sun. As the last golden ray faded, he took some paper and penciled that tune which has gone all over the earth. (Source:Cyberhymnal. Go here to learn more.)

Signs and Wonders

Mysterious explosions plague Pennsylvania suburbs

A mysterious set of explosions in the suburbs of Philadelphia over the past two months has strained emergency responses to other calls and left authorities in Pennsylvania asking for help to track down whoever is behind the blasts.

Since April 2, there have been over 20 early-morning explosions in northern Bucks County, located about 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release Tuesday.

"Fortunately to date no one has been injured; however, we are attempting to prevent someone from accidentally getting injured by these explosions, including the individual responsible," state police said in a news released obtained by Fox News. "These events disrupt emergency response personnel from their normal course of duty, straining local resources and impeding emergency personnel from responding to other calls for service."
Authorities did not release information about a potential suspect, but asked the community to remain vigilant.

"Regardless of how insignificant you think your tip may be, we strongly encourage you to come forward with your information," state police said.

Residents across the area have reported booms loud enough to rattle windows and shake walls taking place between 1 and 4:30 a.m. and waking them up.

"It's just like a boom. That's just how it sounds," Donna Weaver told FOX29 at the end of April.

Weaver, a resident of Quakertown, said she heard the booms several times over the course of the month, which woke her up in the middle of the night.

"I don't know and it's kind of scary," she told FOX29. "Because I thought of thinking maybe its underground, maybe underground somewhere." (New York Post) Read more

Mike Pence's Bold Plan to Aid Persecuted Christians Becomes Reality

"I want to make a promise to each and every one of you. We will not rest until we give our fellow Christians and persecuted communities across the Middle East the resources and support they need to recover, rebuild, and flourish in their ancient homeland once again." -Vice President Mike Pence

Over the weekend, reports emerged that the United States Agency for International Development will be following through with a plan that Vice President Mike Pence has been advocating for. According to the Washington Examiner, the agency will provide over $100 million to help persecuted Christians.
The majority of the money will go toward Christian and Yazidi communities in Iraq, an area of the world where Christians are consistently persecuted. According to Open Doors, Iraq is among the top ten countries where Christian persecution is the highest.

The money that the agency will be giving out will be assisting various groups throughout the country. According to Mark Green, the USAID Administrator, some of the money has already been specifically allocated. $10 million will be distributed to various groups including Catholic Relief Services. $25 million will assist "persecuted communities" in Iraq.

Overall, $100 million will reportedly be given within this fiscal year to the Christian and Yazidi minority religions. This news follows Vice President Pence's consistent pleas to provide aid for those persecuted. He spoke out at the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting last week. About CHPP

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
