Hurricane Irma

Updates: Hurricane Irma

1. Reports: Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands brace for Irma as it approaches with 185-mph winds - AccuWeather

Puerto Rico and other islands in the Lesser Antilles are preparing for Irma as it tracks dangerously close to the islands as a powerful Category 5 hurricane. Some of the worst conditions will be felt in the British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, and St. Kitts and Nevis into Wednesday. Saint Barthelemy, Saint Martin and Anguilla in the northern Leeward Islands will take a direct hit from Irma Wednesday morning.

"Portions of these islands can experience winds past 150 mph. This will cause catastrophic damage. A deadly storm surge of at least 12 feet will impact those islands and cause additional damage," Doll said. A state of emergency has already been declared in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as residents brace for the storm. (Read more)

- Father, we pray You would use shearing winds to disorganize hurricane Irma and push her north and out to sea.

- "Lord, help!" they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves." (Psalm 107:28-29)

2. Hurricane Irma is so strong it's registering on devices designed to detect earthquakes - USA Today

Hurricane Irma is so strong it's showing up on seismometers - equipment designed to measure earthquakes. "What we're seeing in the seismogram are low-pitched hums that gradually become stronger as the hurricane gets closer to the seismometer on the island of Guadeloupe," said Stephen Hicks, a seismologist at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom.

The noise is likely caused by high winds - which cause tiny motions in the ground - and also by trees swaying in the wind, which also transfers energy into the ground, he said. The seismometer is located close to the ocean, so waves crashing along the coastline reverberate around the island, also generating seismic energy, Hicks added. (Read more)

- Father, we pray all who are in the path of this storm to take refuge in You.

- For this is what the Lord of Heaven's Armies says: In just a little while I will again shake the heavens and the earth, the oceans and the dry land. (Haggai 2:6)

3. Katia joins Hurricane Irma and Tropical Storm Jose in the Atlantic - AccuWeather

As major Hurricane Irma moves closer to the United States, newly-formed Tropical Storm Jose will churn across the central Atlantic while Tropical Storm Katia strengthens in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico this week. Tropical Storm Jose, which formed on Tuesday morning, is located thousands of miles southeast of the Lesser Antilles. Tropical Depression 13 formed Tuesday afternoon in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and strengthened into Tropical Storm Katia on Wednesday morning. It will continue to bring enhanced rainfall to eastern Mexico over the next few days.

Tropical Storm Jose will remain in an environment favorable for intensification with dry air and very little wind shear, or change in wind speed or direction with altitude. There is the potential for Jose to become a hurricane as it tracks to the west-northwest this week. This projected path would take it near or just north of the Leeward Islands late this week and into the weekend, less than a week after major Hurricane Irma batters the area. "The northern Leeward Islands are at risk of contending with enhanced showers and tropical-storm-force conditions this weekend, which could hinder Irma recovery efforts," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Rob Miller said. (Read more)

- Father, we lift up these new storms and pray You would diminish them. May they only bring needed rain to parched land.

- When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. (Proverbs 10:25)

Focus on Israel

1. Red Cross head asks Hamas leader to meet with Israelis held in Gaza
- Ynet News

The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, met with Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip Yahya Sinwar on Tuesday to discuss the Israelis being held by the terror organization.

According to Palestinian news agency Ma'an, the meeting between the two lasted an hour, during which Maurer asked Sinwar to allow him to visit "the Israeli soldiers missing in Gaza." Ahead of the meeting, Maurer toured Gaza and met with some of the residents. Maurer and Sinwar meet in Gaza.

Israel's intelligence community determined with high certainty that Hamas is holding two Israeli citizens: Abera Mengistu, 30, from Ashkelon, who has been in the strip since September 2014, and Hisham Shaaban al-Sayed, a Bedouin man from Hura, who crossed into Gaza in April 2015. Both are alive but suffering from physical and mental problems and need to be on medication on a regular basis.

2. Hamas refuses to let Red Cross chief meet Israeli captives - Israel Hayom

The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross on Tuesday discussed the fate of two Israeli civilians and the remains of two Israeli soldiers believed to be held by Hamas in a meeting with the leader of the Islamic terrorist group.

Hamas is believed to hold the bodies of Staff Sgt. Oron Shaul and Lt. Hadar Goldin, who were killed in the Gaza Strip in separate battles during Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014. Ethiopian Israeli Avera Mengistu and Bedouin Hisham al-Sayed, both suffering from mental health issues, crossed into Gaza voluntarily in 2014 and 2015 and are believed to have been captured by Hamas. A fifth Israeli, Jumaa Abu Ghanima, crossed the border into Gaza in 2016, and his fate remains unknown.

According to the Palestinian news agency Maan, ICRC President Peter Maurer asked Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip Yahya Sinwar to meet Mengistu and Sayed but Sinwar refused to allow it.

3. Hamas leader to JPost: We're ready for long-term cease-fire with Israel - Jerusalem Post

Hamas is ready to strike a long-term cease-fire deal with Israel, if it lifts its closure on the Gaza Strip, senior Hamas official in the West Bank Hassan Yousef told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.

"Hamas is prepared to make a long-term cease-fire with the Israeli occupation, in return for it allowing the residents of Gaza to live like all other people in the world with everything that they need," Yousef, who helped found Hamas, said in an interview in his living room in Beitunya, a suburb of Ramallah, the de facto political capital of the Palestinian Authority.

"I mean the Israeli occupation needs to allow for freedom of movement - going and coming for travelers, students, sick people, expatriates, and all others who desire to move - exports and imports and everything else. It needs to lift its oppressive siege," he said.

4. Netanyahu: Ties with Arab world 'stronger than ever' - World Israel News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday declared that Israel's current ties with the Arab world are unprecedented in its history, and its diplomatic efforts around the globe are constantly breaking new ground.

Speaking at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem to Israeli diplomats during the traditional toast ahead of the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday, Netanyahu stated that Israel today is "in a different place; the alliance with the United States - with North America as a whole - is stronger than ever, as are ties with Europe, including developing ties with Eastern Europe. The great breakthrough is to all continents."

5. Netanyahu to embark on first-ever trip by an Israeli PM to Latin America - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit three Latin American countries next week, as a part of his ongoing effort to boldly go where none of his predecessors has gone before.

While Israeli presidents have previously visited the continent - most recently Shimon Peres in 2009 - Netanyahu's four-day trip to Argentina, Colombia and Mexico marks the first time a sitting Israeli prime minister goes to South America. After his journey through Latin America, he is headed to New York, where he will address the United Nations General Assembly and is expected to meet with US President Donald Trump.

Latin America has had a complicated relationship with the Jewish state, but Israeli officials this week spoke of a "historic friendship" that has significantly intensified in recent years due to the ascent of "like-minded" governments.

1. Government faces suit over Addicks and Barker dam releases - Houston Chronicle

A group of flooded-out Harris County homeowners and businesses sued the federal government on Tuesday, accusing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of knowingly condemning their properties by releasing water from the Barker and Addicks reservoirs after Hurricane Harvey. Bryant Banes, a civil attorney whose Heathwood home and his wife's home business were deluged after the rains had subsided, is seeking compensation that could reach into the billions of dollars in what he hopes will become a massive class-action lawsuit that would include compensation for homeowners, building managers and business owners within the area flooded by the controlled releases.

"When they opened up the dams full blast, several hundred homes that were dry and not yet directly impacted by the storm - including mine -got flooded by the Corps' action," Banes said.

Banes doesn't contend that the Corps did the wrong thing, only that the government must pay for the damages it caused. "When they make a choice to flood one area to save another, it's their responsibility to pay for the consequences," he said. Banes' is one of three lawsuits filed Tuesday in state and federal court seeking to hold government agencies liable for flooding from the controlled releases. A spokesperson for the U.S. Army Corps deferred questions about two federal lawsuits Tuesday to the Justice Department. Mark Abueg, a Justice Department spokesman in Washington, D.C., said Wednesday, "We will review the complaint and respond in a timely manner." (Read more)

- Father, we pray for all the people whose homes, churches and businesses were flooded, that You would lift their spirits and help them recover.

- If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

2. Millions of American lives could be at stake as North Korea threatens to attack power grid - Fox News

North Korea may very well have the ability to kill millions of Americans, without directly firing on U.S. soil. For the first time, the pariah country's state news agency warned it could hit the U.S. with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) onslaught, a threat that experts contend is both very real and comes with catastrophic consequences. "The biggest danger would be shorting out of the power grid, especially on the East Coast. Imagine a situation where large sections of the U.S. had no power. Imagine New York or Washington D.C. with no power for just a week. The implications would be hard to fathom," Harry Kazianis, Director of Defense Studies at the Center for the National Interest, told Fox News. "The casualty rates would be off the charts."

According to Kazianis, an EMP delivered by a nuclear weapon would not just fry power grids but also carry the destructive power of an atomic device. "That in it of itself is going to kill thousands if not millions depending on the size of it and where it is dropped. Also, nuclear weapons carry radioactive fallout that would be spread thousands of miles through the atmosphere and oceans," he continued. "We would be adding to such a casualty count sadly for decades thanks to cancer cases that would arise many years later." (Read more)

- Father, we pray President Trump will have Your wisdom as he works to contain and neutralize these threats from North Korea.

- Don't be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself. (Philippians 1:28)

3. Graham: Trump 'Did the Country a Service by Going Back to Constitutional Order' - CNS News

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday that President Donald Trump was right to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program or DACA, because former President Barack Obama's executive order was "an unconstitutional overreach. The Congress is going to have to up its game. As to the president, I think he was right to terminate DACA. I believe from day one it was an unconstitutional overreach by President Obama," Graham said.

Trump "had a dilemma on his hands," he said. "I think the president did the country a service by going back to constitutional order in a way that allows a six-month opportunity for the Congress to take care of these kids."

Graham and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) held a press conference to react to the president's decision on DACA. They also touted their bipartisan Dream Act. It allows young people to obtain lawful permanent residency if they are longtime residents who came to the U.S. as children; graduate from high school or obtain a GED; pursue higher education, work lawfully for at least three years, or serve in the military; pass security and law enforcement background checks and pay a reasonable application fee; demonstrate proficiency in the English language and a knowledge of United States history; and have not committed a felony or other serious crimes and do not pose a threat to our country. (Read more)

- Father, we pray the truth about President Trump's action will be acknowledged throughout our government and media. We pray for political and legal solutions for these "Dreamers" as well as comprehensive reform throughout our immigration system.

- This is what the Lord says: Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds! Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent!
(Jeremiah 22:3)

4. House committee subpoenas FBI, Justice over Trump dossier - Washington Examiner

In the most significant escalation yet in the wrangling between Congress and the FBI over the Trump dossier, the House Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed the bureau and the Justice Department for documents relating to the dossier, the FBI's relationship with dossier author Christopher Steele, and the bureau's possible role in supporting what began as an opposition research project against candidate Donald Trump in the final months of last year's presidential campaign.

The subpoenas are an indication of growing frustration inside the committee over the FBI and Justice Department's lack of cooperation in the Trump-Russia investigation. The committee issued the subpoenas -- one to the FBI, an identical one to the Justice Department -- on August 24, giving both until last Friday, September 1, to turn over the information. Neither FBI nor Justice turned over the documents, and now the committee has given them an extension until September 14 to comply. Illustrating the seriousness with which investigators view the situation, late Tuesday the committee issued two more subpoenas, specifically to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, directing them to appear before the committee to explain why they have not provided the subpoenaed information. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray Congress will uncover the truth regarding Christopher Steele and the unlawful actions committed by federal employees.

- Their malice may be concealed by deception, but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly. (Proverbs 26:26)

5. ISIS Urges Supporters To Poison Food At US Grocery Stores - ZeroHedge

After urging its supporters in the west to turn cars into weapons, guidance that inspired terror attacks in the UK, Spain and France, ISIS is now calling for sympathizers to poison the food in US supermarkets with cyanide, according to SITE. In recent days, channels associated with the terrorist army have posted calls for attacks on Europe, Russia and the United States to mark the occasion of the Islamic "Sacrifice Feast" Eid al Adha. In the third part of an English-language series on jihad, IS advised would-be attackers to inject food for sale in markets with cyanide poison. According to Spiesa, the organization has tested these methods on prisons, causing horrifically painful deaths.

"The Islamic State group used prisoners as "human guinea pigs," carrying out chemical weapons experiments in order to plan for attacks against the West, documents found in Mosul have revealed. The papers detailing the tests, which led to the agonizing deaths of prisoners, were discovered at Mosul University in January when it was recaptured by Iraqi special forces. The documents verified by United States and British forces were detailed by The Times in a report published Saturday. Prisoners had their food and water contaminated by the sprinkling of chemicals found in easily accessible pesticides. The US and Britain now fear that the same methods could be used on a larger scale to contaminate food supplies in the West." (Read more)

- Father God, ISIS seems to have no limit to the malicious evil they desire to inflict on others. We ask You to end the scourge of ISIS and prevent them from poisoning any food or water.

- And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. (Mark 16:17-18)

6. Chicago reported thousands more votes than voters in 2016, GOP official says - Fox News

The head of the Chicago Republican Party is claiming the city reported thousands more votes cast than voters in the 2016 election -- sparking a battle with Chicago officials who call the allegations overblown. First reported by the Chicago City Wire, the Chicago GOP filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Chicago Board of Elections in January for a list of voters who had cast ballots in November. According to the party, the board responded with a list of 1,101,178 individuals, though its website reflects 1,115,664 votes cast.

"There should be never be more votes than voters-every ballot cast should be recorded against a registered voter," Chairman of the Chicago GOP Chris Cleveland told Fox News, explaining that after receiving the data, the party "immediately" contacted the board for "clarification." "This is either massive fraud or massive incompetence, but we have no way of telling the difference because they won't give us the data." (Read more)

- Father, we pray the city of Chicago will be delivered from iniquity and become the city Your heart desires, clean and pure.

- I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. (Ezekiel 36:25)

7. The Latest Jaw-Dropping Numbers From the Opioid Crisis - Mother Jones

About 64,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last year-a staggering 22 percent increase from the 52,404 in 2015-according to the first government estimate of drug deaths in 2016. Overdoses now kill more Americans than HIV did at its peak in 1995, and far more than guns or cars do today.

Fueling the rise in deaths is fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 100 times more potent than morphine, and fentanyl analogs, or slight tweaks on the fentanyl molecule. This has not always been the case: As the chart below shows, the drivers of the opioid crisis have changed from prescription painkillers to heroin, and then to fentanyl. The epidemic is straining the capacity of morgues, emergency services, hospitals, and foster care systems. Largely because of prevalent drug use and overdose, the number of children in foster care nationwide increased by 30,000 between 2012 and 2015. (Read more)

- Father, these overdose deaths represent the untold, unfathomable grief of parents and loved ones. We pray for Your healing and peace to restore us.

- Death has climbed in through our windows and has entered our fortresses; it has removed the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares. (Jeremiah 9:21)

8. Venezuelans Eating Dogs, Zoo Animals as Economy Collapses - Breitbart

Venezuela's opposition published photos this weekend of men butchering a dead dog on the streets of Caracas, preparing the meat for cooking in a nation that has been forced to take increasingly extreme measures to avoid a famine. A representative of Vente Venezuela, an opposition party that has taken a hard line against dialogue with the socialist regime, posted the photos online as proof of how rapid the decline of Venezuela's society has been since Hugo Chávez dismantled the nation's capitalist economy in the 2000s.

"While the dictatorship gives away $5 million to the United States and others are considering governorships, Venezuelans are eating dogs," Vente Venezuela coordinator Javier Chirinos said on Twitter, referring to the five million that dictator Nicolás Maduro has offered victims of Hurricane Harvey to generate goodwill with the international left. "This is the result of 18 years of misery and socialist, and we have the responsibility to denounce it, but above all to do what is necessary to change it," he continued. "To wait another year is to prolong hunger, allow more deaths, it is pain. How much more will we ask the people to withstand?"(Read more)

- Father, the people of Venezuela have not abandoned You and You are their only hope. We agree with them in prayer and ask for Your divine help.

- Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
(Psalm 82:4)

Ending the dream

President Donald Trump put an end to the illegal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. What you likely will not hear in the news media, the protests and all the back and forth about this policy is that it was Constitutionally illegal. In his effort to remake America, the immediate past "president" created the policy in 2012 to allow the illegal immigration of children into the US and ran into legal issues by attempting to expand it in 2014. About 800,000 illegal aliens aged 15-36, the majority of them adults, are impacted by this unilaterally invoked policy that had no legal basis. Now, the leftists are going crazy that Trump might expel these "children" from the United States.

The White House statement said, "DACA was not statutorily authorized and was therefore an unconstitutional exercise of discretion by the executive branch...The Trump Administration is taking responsible action to wind down DACA in an orderly and minimally disruptive manner....DHS's enforcement priorities remain in place. However, absent a law enforcement interest-which is largely the standard that has been in place since the inception of the program-the Department will generally not take actions to remove active DACA recipients." The Trump Administration is allowing a six-month window for Congress to act with responsible legislation.

Trump was lambasted by the previous "president" in a statement saying he asked Congress to act, but..."That bill never came...my administration acted to lift the shadow of deportation from these young people, so that they could continue to contribute to our communities and our country... This is about whether we are a people who kick hopeful young strivers out of America, or whether we treat them the way we'd want our kids to be treated." The previous "president" broke the law by allowing these kids AND their parents to stay in the country illegally. When Congress didn't do what this "president" wanted, he chose to make his own law. Now there are consequences and to many they seem to be inhumane and unfair.

The previous "president" had a dream to remake America into a socialist nation. To achieve his dream, he was willing to break the law. The immigration laws of this nation are similar to those in the Bible. Leviticus 24:22 says, "You shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country." There is a path to legal citizenship and also to work here legally. If the first act of entering a country is to break the law, then no law is truly respected. The willful act of ignoring the law by the previous "president" has brought harm to those he was trying to protect, and to many Americans who were victims of the crime that was created as a result. Now another President gets the heat for ending the dream by enforcing the law.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

A Call to Pray for North Korea

A Call to Pray for North Korea:

Released by John Robb, Chairman,
International Prayer Council

North Korea: Background on the Crisis and Need to Pray Urgently

This helpful article from The Weekly will help you to understand the situation in North Korea and how we ought to pray about this very threatening situation:

"Here are six facts you should know about North Korea, the world's most repressive regime:

1. North Korea was created after the Korean peninsula was divided in the aftermath of World War II. Following the surrender of Japanese forces in 1945, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, supreme commander for the Allied powers, issuedGeneral Order No. 1. In this order, the Japanese empire was required to surrender all portions of Korea north of 38 north latitude to the Soviet Union and all of Korea south of that marker to the United States (thearbitrary choice of the dividing line, which has affected international relations for more than 70 years, was "recommended by two tired colonels working late at night"). That December, the Soviets installed a communist guerrilla leader named Kim Il-sung as the chairman of the North Korean branch of the Korean Communist Party. When the DPRK was formed in September 1948, the Soviets recognized Kim Il-sung as the leader of Korea, both North and South. The autocratic Kim family-Kim Il-sung, his son Kim Jong-il, and grandson Kim Jong-un-have ruled the country every since. (Source: The Weekly.) theweekly@erlc.com

PRAYER REQUESTS:

1. Please watch and pray over the news from the Korean peninsula. This is the most threatening and dangerous situation the world faces right now and it looks to be worsening.

2. Pray that the North Koreans will back down from their provocative actions and that Kim Jong Un will either change course or be removed by his own government or by Chinese intervention.

3. Pray that a military confrontation that could take the lives of hundreds of thousands or even millions would be averted.

4. Ask that God would give special wisdom and restraint to President Trump, President Xi Jinping of China, President Moon Jae-in of South Korea as well as all other leaders involved in the current crisis that a peaceful solution can be found to ending North Korea's nuclear threats and weapons program

"The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)

Praying for Florida

Praying for Florida

We have received this prayer request from our brothers and sisters in PrayerHouseUSA in West Palm Beach, FL. We are praying in agreement with their message.

Standing as One in Prayer and Faith

"Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your unmerited grace, mercy, love, and the blood shed at Calvary. We thank you for Your forgiveness and the authority in Christ Jesus that enables us to be able to come before Your precious Throne of grace to stand in the gap as one in Christ petitioning the Heavens. Father forgive us for our sins individually and as a nation and help bring repentance into our communities and hearts so that none should perish.

Father, we ask that You would shift hurricanes Irma and Jose both out to sea so that the State of Florida and the U.S. would be spared. That as many prepare, You would keep Your divine hand on the people across all the Caribbean islands, our great state, and nation, and protect, shield, and shower Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding.

Father, we ask that You protect and guide all first responders and leaders giving them great wisdom in any and all tasks ahead in all areas affected by these natural disasters. We ask that there would be no more loss of lives, and we lift up all those already affected by Harvey and being affected now or in the path of these two other storms, and ask that You would protect, grant favor, provision, shower Your love upon them, and bring healing and restoration. That somehow, someway, everything would be turned for Your good and Glory to be seen, for with You 'all' things are possible.
Father, we ask that as you hear our petitions and spare, that this would all be done for your Great Names sake and Your Glory to be unveiled so that more souls would be drawn unto You by Your divine Grace and many would come to the knowledge of Christ."

In Jesus Name, Amen!

In our hearts and prayers,

The teams at Prayer House of the Palm Beaches and Prayer House of Broward

WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS

"May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ."
(Galatians 6:14)
Lyrics

When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o'er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Major Solar Flare

Sept. 6, 2017

On Sept. 6th at 1202 UT, sunspot AR2673 unleashed a major X9-class solar flare--the strongest solar flare in more than a decade. X-rays and UV radiation from the blast ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere, causing a strong shortwave radio blackout on the dayside of our planet. The explosion also likely produced a CME, although coronagraph images have not yet confirmed this possibility. Please stay tuned for updates about this event. (www.spaceweather.com)

SEE ALSO: Massive solar storm: Seattle, Portland, even N. Calif. may see auroras - Seattle PI

The beautiful thing about a solar flare that ruptures a filament of the suns magnetic field and fires plasma into space - a coronal mass ejection - is that when it hits Earth, we get expanded northern lights or aurora. If the ejection is big enough, and hits the Earth just right, you can spot aurora much farther south than usual.

The current plasma burst from the sun stems from an M5 or relatively medium-strength flare on Monday. The flare's geomagnetic storm, the space weather version of a small hurricane, is projected to arrive late Wednesday, according to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. (Note that space weather changes and so the agency's predictions will evolve as the week goes on.) The outer range of visibility for the resulting aurora could stretch south over Washington, Oregon and as far as the tip of Northern California. (Read more)

Zika virus used to treat aggressive brain cancer

A harmful virus that can cause devastating brain damage in babies could offer up a surprising new treatment for adult brain cancer, according to US scientists. Until now, Zika has been seen only as a global health threat - not a remedy. But latest research shows the virus can selectively infect and kill hard-to-treat cancerous cells in adult brains.

Zika injections shrank aggressive tumours in fully grown mice, yet left other brain cells unscathed. Human trials are still a way off, but experts believe Zika virus could potentially be injected into the brain at the same time as surgery to remove life-threatening tumours, the Journal of Experimental Medicine reports. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
Friends may participate by receiving our daily prayer alerts. You may contact us at chpp1994@gmail.com for more information. CHPP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ministry. Thank you and God bless you!
