2. Jewish leadership, Vatican discuss collaboration on common interests - Jerusalem Post

Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis, has said that the Jewish rabbinic leadership has several common causes with the Catholic Church and the Vatican and that improved relations will help improve collaboration on those issues.

The rabbi spoke to The Jerusalem Post after he led a delegation to Pope Francis on Thursday to present a Jewish perspective on Catholic Jewish Relations on the fiftieth anniversary of Nostra Aetate, in which the Catholic Church repudiated the notion of the collective guilt of the Jewish people for Jesus's death in 1965.

Alongside Goldschmidt and the CER were rabbis from the Rabbinical Council of America, a large modern-Orthodox rabbinical association in the US, and rabbis from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

Goldschmidt and his delegation presented the pope with a document entitled 'Between Jerusalem and Rome' that sets out an approach for the two faiths to work together on issues of common concern, and commits to deepening dialogue and partnership with the Catholic Church in the future.

3. Was Rivlin's visit to Ma'aleh Adumim a sign of support for sovereignty? - Jerusalem Post

President Reuven Rivlin demonstrated support of the application of sovereign to the Ma'aleh Adumim settlement when he visited on Friday, Benny Kashriel, the mayor of the West Bank city, told The Jerusalem Post.

Kashriel told Rivlin the same thing during a small on-camera ceremony in the first-grade classroom in the Nofei Haselah Elementary School.

"Your arrival for the start-of-school is a declaration that we need to apply Israeli sovereignty to city of Ma'aleh Adumim; it's a declaration that the city is an organic and integral part of the State of Israel," Kashriel said.

He later told the Post that Rivlin has always supported the settlement, which is located just east of Jerusalem.

4. 'We will all benefit from the strengthening of Samaria' - Israel National News

Public Safety Minister Gilad Erdan took part Monday evening in the inauguration of the community policing center in the Samarian Jewish community of Barkan. Erdan said the center has great importance because "a great deal of the crime that begins with the Palestinians in Samaria is followed by burglaries and other criminal incidents throughout the State of Israel."

Minister Ardan expressed his hope that the budget for paving the bypass roads in Samaria would be found, saying, "The paving of the bypass roads will also contribute to the Arab population to the Jewish population as well; And we will all benefit from this empowerment and the development of Samaria."

5. Watch: IDF prepares for war with Hezbollah - Jerusalem Online

Today (Monday), the IDF began an unprecedented exercise in the north in preparation for a possible war with Hezbollah. The massive military exercise is being held in memory of former Mossad Director Meir Dagan and is intended to improve the military's readiness on the northern front.

The exercise, which is taking place 19 years after the previous one, will include tens of thousands of soldiers from dozens of brigades and will last 11 days. The exercise will simulate a scenario where Hezbollah forces manage to infiltrate an Israeli community near the border, escalating the situation to an all-out war in the north.

6. Egypt finalizes deal with Russia for first nuclear plant - Times of Israel

CAIRO - Russian media said Monday that Egypt has finalized a deal to build a nuclear power plant with funding from Moscow after nearly two years of negotiations.

The reports came after Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in China, where they were attending a summit.

The nuclear plant will be built in Dabaa, about 130 kilometers (80 miles) northwest of Cairo on the Mediterranean coast.

7. Assad Winning, Iran Staying in Syria is "New Reality," Says Former US Ambassador - BFP (Bridges for Peace)

Thursday, 31 August 2017 | The last United States ambassador to Syria said that Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad has won, that Iran is likely to stay in Syria, and that "this is the new reality that we have to accept, and there isn't much we can do about it," in an interview Monday.

In the interview, which was conducted by the Emirati newspaper The National, Robert Ford also said that the dynamic on the ground, "has made the situation worse for Israel."

Without more assistance in the form of "money, weapons-including surface-to-air missiles" as well as military advisors from their backers, Ford explained, "it would be impossible [for the rebels] to defeat Assad and his Russian and Iranian allies."

Ford also noted that even though Assad was violating ceasefires that Russia had arranged, Russia would take no action against Assad for doing so. He also said that he expected Assad to try and assert control over all of Syria and even to target the Kurds.

Regarding the threat to Israel from the new alignment, Ford said that Iran has thousands of fighters from Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Pakistan under its command and that they "are not going home after this settles." He added that these fighters "are battle-hardened and would reinforce Hezbollah in any new war against Israel."

In addition, the placement of Russian anti-aircraft weaponry in Syria was limiting Israel's freedom to maneuver in the air. (Read more)
- Intercede for PM Netanyahu, Pres. Rivlin and other leaders in Israel to trust and to be strengthened and encouraged by the Lord from within. Pray that He will instruct them with wisdom to deal with Iran's growing presence in Syria. Ask God for His heavenly armies to protect the northern borders of Israel.

- "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Behold, all those who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced; they shall be as nothing, and those who strive with you shall perish." (Isaiah 41:10-11)

8. US Condemns UN Peacekeeper over Spread of Illegal Weapons to Hezbollah - BFP

Tuesday, 29 August 2017 | On Friday, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley condemned the UN peacekeeping commander in Lebanon for turning a blind eye to the "massive flow of illegal weapons" to Hezbollah-controlled southern Lebanon and called for the force to do more to stop these activities, Haaretz reported Sunday.

The US has increased pressure on the UN ahead of the peacekeeping mission's renewal, scheduled for next week, to stop the spread of illegal arms to Hezbollah, a terrorist organization which Israel has long complained is operating with impunity.

However, the UN peacekeeping commander, Maj. Gen. Michael Beary, has rejected US and Israeli criticism. He told The Associated Press this week that his force has no evidence for illegal activity in the region, and that "if there was a large cache of weapons, we would know about it." (Read more)
- Lift up the UN peace-keeping forces, praying that they will grasp the truth regarding Hezbollah's increased terrorism and weapon smuggling. Pray that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' visit to Israel and seeing "facts on the ground" will have a significant impact on his future leadership of the United Nations.

- "Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass." (Psalm 37:5)

The Daily Brief

1. Hurricane Irma now powerful Category 5 storm, Florida declares state of emergency - Fox News

Hurricane Irma continued to strengthen Tuesday as an "extremely dangerous" Category 5 storm, prompting states of emergency in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Florida, sending residents to stores to prepare for the worst.

Irma's maximum sustained winds had increased to near 180 mph, and the storm was located about 225 miles east of Antigua, moving west at 14 mph, the National Hurricane Center said in its 11 a.m. ET advisory.

Fox News Senior Meterologist Janice Dean said Irma is now "one of the strongest hurricanes we have witnessed in the last decade."

The forecast for Irma remains tricky for over the weekend as it approaches South Florida by Saturday night into Sunday, as the storm is expected to make a sharp turn to the north as a trough moves into the region, according to Dean. (Read more)

- Lord we pray against this new hurricane and by the power of Jesus Christ, and by His Blood, we stand against the storm and command it to break up!

- "Behold I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19)

2. Gov. Jerry Brown declares state of emergency in Los Angeles County as fire continues to rage in Verdugo Mountains - LA Times

Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles County as firefighters continue to battle a 5,900-acre brush fire in the Verdugo Mountains north of downtown Los Angeles that has destroyed three homes and shut down a stretch of the 210 Freeway.

The governor's declaration came at the urging of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who said it would ensure that state and federal assistance was provided as quickly as possible. Garcetti described the fire as the biggest in the history of the city in terms of sheer acreage.

Firefighters got some relief Sunday from a heat wave that has gripped much of the state for days. Temperatures were slightly cooler, in the mid-90s, and there were even brief showers in some burn areas as monsoonal moisture from Tropical Storm Lidia moved into the region. Winds were also calmer, but officials warned that could change quickly. "The biggest challenge and risk is the wind," said Los Angeles Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas. (Read more)

- Lord, we take authority over these fires and command them to cease in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

- "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." (Matthew 28:18)

3. Trump administration ends DACA, with 6-month delay - Fox News

The Trump administration on Tuesday announced the "orderly wind down" of the Obama-era program that gave a deportation reprieve to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children - putting pressure on Congress to come up with a replacement. "I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. But we must also recognize that we are nation of opportunity because we are a nation of laws," Trump said, in a lengthy written statement explaining the decision. The Department of Homeland Security formally rescinded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, with a six-month delay for current recipients. According to Acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke, the interval is meant to give Congress "time to deliver on appropriate legislative solutions."

"However, I want to be clear that no new initial requests or associated applications filed after today will be acted on," Duke said in a written statement. (Read more)

- Father God, once again we thank You for placing those in authority over our nation who will adhere to the rule of law according to the Constitution. DACA was a unilateral decision, made by President Obama, and against the will and the vote of Congress. Thank You, Lord, for strengthening the Constitutional order and the rule of law in America, in Your name, amen.

- "The Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our King, and He will save us." (Isaiah 33:22)

4. Trump "Optimistic" over Peace Prospects, Says US Delegation to Middle East - Bridges for Peace

US President Donald Trump's commitment to fostering peace in the Middle East stands firm and he remains "hopeful and optimistic" to finding a solution that will see Israel and the Palestinians living together in harmony. That was the message that a top US delegation communicated to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority (PA) President, Mahmoud Abbas, last week. The delegation, including Trump's Senior Adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, Special Envoy for International Negotiations, Jason Greenblatt, and Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategy, Dina Powell, arrived in Israel on Wednesday evening following stops in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, where they met with senior officials in a bid to gain regional backing for the prospective push for peace.

The delegation's first meeting in the Promised Land was on Thursday morning with Netanyahu at the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) headquarters in Tel Aviv. Israel's Ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, and US Ambassador to the Jewish state, David Friedman, also joined the three-and-a-half-hour discussion.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Netanyahu expressed his confidence in the possibility for peace in the region. "We have a lot of things to talk about," the prime minister said. "How to advance peace, stability and security in our region-prosperity too-and I think all of them are within our reach." (Read more)

- Continue to lift up the peace process between Israel and Abbas, praying for resolution and for God's will to be done. Ask God to direct Prime Minister Netanyahu's steps and to make them sure.

- "A man's heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

5. US takes control of Russian posts in three cities after expelling diplomats - Fox News

U.S. officials seized three Russian diplomatic posts in San Francisco, New York and Washington D.C. Saturday after the Trump administration ordered the occupants to leave within 48 hours. A senior State Department official said U.S. officials and Russian Embassy personnel conducted joint walkthroughs of the three buildings before they were formally turned over to the Americans.

"These inspections were carried out to secure and protect the facilities and to confirm the Russian government had vacated the premises," the official said in a statement emailed Saturday to reporters by the State Department on condition the official not be named. The official also denied Kremlin claims that American officials had threatened to "break down the entrance door" to one of the facilities, and that the FBI was "clearing the premises."

Russia has been incensed by the move to shutter its consulate in San Francisco and trade offices in Washington and New York, actions the U.S. took in retaliation for Moscow's decision last month to force the U.S. to cut its diplomatic personnel in Russia to 455. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You would somehow bring calm to US relations with Russia. You alone know the answers and the hearts of all involved. We pray for a mighty move of Your Spirit across Russian leadership and citizens.

- "For God did not send His Son in to the word to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." (John 3:17)

6. North Korea: Kim Jong Un observes missile-ready hydrogen bomb - CNN

North Korea's regime has "succeeded in making a more developed nuke," according to the country's state news agency.

The Korean Central News Agency described it as a "nuke" in its English-language report, but called it a "thermonuclear hydrogen bomb" in the Korean version. During a visit to the country's Nuclear Weapons Institute, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "watched an H-bomb to be loaded into new ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile)," KCNA reported.

"The H-bomb, the explosive power of which is adjustable from tens kiloton to hundreds kiloton, is a multi-functional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated even at high altitudes for super-powerful EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack according to strategic goals," KCNA reported in English. (Read more)

- Lord, we once again stand on Your Word that no weapon formed against us will prosper. WE pray a hedge of Your Holy Fire around all of the regions reachable by this weapon.

- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn." (Isaiah 54:17a)

7. Haley says North Korea is 'begging for war,' calls for strongest possible UN sanctions - Fox News

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Monday asked the body's Security Council to impose the strongest possible sanctions against North Korea in response to the rogue nation's most recent nuclear test, saying "the time for half measures is over."

Haley spoke at U.N. headquarters in New York a day after North Korea claimed to have conducted an underground test on a hydrogen bomb. It was the country's sixth such test, following five previous ones on a nuclear warhead and recent launches of inter-continental missiles to land such weapons on foreign soil.

"We cannot kick this can down the road any longer," said Halley at a special U.N. meeting, convened after the weapon test overnight Saturday.

Her statements follow President Trump a day earlier condemned the test in the strongest terms. "North Korea is a rogue nation which has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success," Trump said in one of several tweets Sunday.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said later in the day, in a White House meeting on the matter, that any threats by North Korea to the United State or its allies will be met with an "effective and overwhelming" military response. (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that these sanctions against North Korea harm only Kim Jong-UN. We ask that the people of North Korea be once and for all freed from this evil regime.

- "The wicked will not go unpunished." (Proverbs 11:21a)

8. DOJ subpoenas Christian pastor's views on Islam - WND

In a sweeping defeat for Obama-era holdovers at the U.S. Department of Justice, a federal court has tossed out a case in which the department had subpoenaed a Christian pastor's views on Islam. The Islamic Center of Culpeper, Virginia, had already won a favorable settlement in its Obama-aided case against the city, which agreed to provide a permit for the mosque to pump sewage from a site where it wants to build a mosque, even though state environmental officials had said the site was not suitable for a septic system.

But that wasn't enough for the lawyers who staff the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ. They wanted to make an example out of rural Culpeper County. How else to explain forcing a local pastor and other locals who spoke against the mosque at public hearings to turn over personal documents that would reveal their views on Islam?

Pastor Steve Harrelson of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church was the main target in the sights of the DOJ, which sought to bring him before an inquisition-type hearing, forcing him to testify about his opinions on Islam and also deliver up to the government his personal papers and documents. But U.S. District Court Judge Norman Moon put an end to the witch hunt for "Islamophobes" in this small northern Virginia town that was being perpetuated by Obama-appointed U.S. attorneys. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Your protection for all ministers of Your Gospel, that the government will no longer be allowed to conduct such unconstitutional actions.

- "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36)

9. Attacks on US diplomats in Cuba continued longer than first announced, State Department now says - Fox News

Unusual health attacks on U.S. diplomats in Cuba continued as recently as August despite previous assessments that the activities had stopped in the spring, the U.S. said on Friday. "We can confirm another incident which occurred last month and is now part of the investigation," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said. The U.S. is continually revising its assessments of the extent of the attacks as new information is obtained, Nauert said. An investigation has not been completed.

The announcement that the attacks - in which a potential covert sonic device caused a series of issues, including permanent hearing loss - comes after the union representing American diplomats said that mild traumatic brain injury was among the diagnoses given to diplomats victimized in the attack. The American Foreign Service Association said additional symptoms had included brain swelling, severe headaches, loss of balance and "cognitive disruption."

U.S. officials had previously said that the attacks had started in fall 2016 and continued until spring 2017. Last week, Nauert had said at least 16 Americans associated with the U.S. Embassy in Havana had been affected, but that the "incidents" were no longer occurring. The tally of U.S. government personnel affected jumped to 19 following Friday's revelation. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Your covering of protection for our diplomats assigned to Cuba and bring glory to Your name by healing those already affected.

- "And by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5c)

10. Historian ties Dems to Marxist plan to collapse U.S. from inside - WND

"We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America," declared Barack Obama during a campaign stop on Oct. 30, 2008, five days before the election that would make him the most powerful man in the world. The concept of "fundamental transformation" has been discussed vigorously since then, especially in light of the many sweeping changes Obama brought to the country over his eight years in office.

Historian Charles Sasser sees Obama's "fundamental transformation" in the context of an older and more sinister plan articulated by a pair of Marxist activists nearly 50 years ago. "What we're seeing now is this fundamental transformation, and it goes all the way back to [Herbert] Marcuse," Sasser said during a recent appearance on the "Prophecy Hour" radio program.

"In the 1960s when he [Marcuse] was talking about the 'long march through the institutions,' this is what Obama was talking about - the fundamental transformation of America."

You are the heart of our nation

A nation lives through the hearts of its people. America is an ideal as much, if not more, than a nationality. The American ideal traditionally has been to live free and do no harm to others. In that ideal, we become Americans by assimilating to the values of our nation-freedom, equality, respect for others, rule of law. Founded in the principle that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us, we have the freedom to own land, to enterprise with our skills and dreams, to worship how we see fit, and, as Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:13, to "enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God." This is America. If you hold to these principles, you are an American. It's an ideal that lives in your heart.

Lately, especially in the last nine years, the American ideal has come under tremendous threat. There are people in gangs like Antifa, the news media, and even elected politicians who do not ascribe to the American ideal. In fact, they want to tear down everything that is American, and as the immediate past "president" put it, "remake America." It is in their heart to oppose everything that is American-its history, its capitalism, its religious foundations, its family units, its natural affections for those who are countrymen. This spirit that lives in these people is a rebellious one. The heart of these is as described in Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it."

There are those, however, who still embody the heart and spirit of America. They believe in freedom. They abide by the laws. They respect others. They stand for what is right according to a Godly standard. They are willing to speak up and take action when there is injustice. They hold dear to the creed that all men are created equal and have the God-given right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They have a love for family. They are loyal. They are trustworthy. They are not afraid of a fight, but seek peace first. In short they are a King David type of people, to whom God may testify as conveyed in Acts 13:22, "I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will."

One way or another, if you are reading this, you are the heart of our nation. Whether you are a God-fearing American, one who understands that the American ideal and values also flow from the heart of God who created all things and called them good, or if you are a rebellious spirit having a wicked heart living in America, there is before you a choice of good or evil, of life or of death. The American ideal is goodness and life that shows lovingkindness and civility, but is not afraid to stand strong against unrighteousness. It's all about the heart. Let us pray a Psalm 51:10 prayer for all our countrymen that the Lord create in them, in all of us, "a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within" us.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

BLESSÈD ASSURANCE

"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith." (Hebrews 10:21-22)

Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

4,300-Year-Old Statue Head Depicts Mystery Pharaoh

A sculpture of an unknown Egyptian pharaoh's head, found at the ancient city of Hazor in Israel, dates back around 4,300 years, to a time when Egyptians were building pyramids. The sculpture was smashed apart around 3,300 years ago, possibly after an Israeli force led by King Joshua destroyed the city, researchers have found. (Read more here.)

Incredible "Prodigal Son" Testimony of Going From "Guttermost to Uttermost": "I'm Convinced I Killed Myself and Jesus Resurrected Me!"

"There is hope for the hopeless. Not just for people in addiction, but for family members. Speak life over your loved ones. Prophesy over them ... Look at a story like mine, and not to sound cliché, but they can go from guttermost to uttermost." - Brandon Henderson, whose father prophetically called him "man of God" every time he spoke to him despite his son's addictions

It started simply enough, with a few prescription painkillers from his doctor for back pain in 2008, though Brandon says he started experimenting with softer drugs like pot long before that. Soon, Brandon traveled from his Jacksonville home to Miami, hopping off the interstate to stop at pill shops to stock up.

When insurance for these medications runs out, addicts like Brandon turn to heroin because it's cheaper and easier to come by on the streets.

Though he cried out to God for intervention, he says he felt like the Lord was far away.

But God continued to speak through Brandon's parents.

After shooting up, Brandon would call his father, who would answer the phone every time with "Man of God, how are you?"

"Dad said, 'You will live and not die,' and would stand and declare works of the Lord. He would call me, 'man of God,' and I'd be like 'Are you kidding me? Do you know what I just did? There was an offense there, but something in my heart longed for that, him calling that out in me."

Brandon credits these prophetic words for saving his life. Read more
