The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Friday, Sept. 5, 2014

"Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
And a two-edged sword in their hand,
To execute vengeance on the nations
And punishment on the peoples,
To bind their kings with chains
And their nobles with fetters of iron,
To execute on them the judgment written;
This is an honor for all His godly ones.
Praise the Lord!"
(Psalm 149:6-9)

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse . . ." (Rev. 19:1)

The Daily Brief

1. Jordan's growing economic troubles could aid jihadist recruitment - Jerusalem Post

As Jordan deals with growing economic difficulties and civil disturbances, jihadists from al-Qaida's Nusra Front and the Islamic State could try to take advantage of the circumstances by gaining new recruits, a study finds.

- Father, the lack of opportunity in Jordan contributes to those who are being recruited by the jihadists and Islamic State. This country has been impacted by 1.5 million Syrian refugees. Father, You have all the answers. We look to You to move on this country and its economy to prevent the jihadists and Islamic State to take advantage of these people.

- And let our own [people really] learn to apply themselves to good deeds (to honest labor and honorable employment), so that they may be able to meet necessary demands whenever the occasion may require and not be living idle and uncultivated and unfruitful lives. (Titus 3: 14)

2. France Leads World Aliyah For the First Time Ever -Arutz Sheva

France for the first time has become the country with the highest numbers of aliyah (immigration to Israel), according to the French office of the Jewish Agency for Israel on Friday. "France is today the leading country for Jewish emigration to Israel. It has never been before," said Ariel Kandel, who heads the French office of the agency.

- Father, this report says a full 1% of the French Jewish community is expected to move to Israel by the end of 2014. Anti-semitism, record high unemployment, and economic difficulties is contributed to the immigration to Israel. We intercede over the Jewish community all over this world. We speak protection and provision for those in Israel, and those traveling to Israel in the coming months. In Jesus name.

- "The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace."'(Numbers 6:24-26)

3. Egypt offers to absorb Palestinians. Why did Abbas refuse?- Jewish World Review

Abbas said that the Egyptian government had made a startling offer to the PA. The Egyptians told Abbas that they were willing to cede a 618-square mile area of the Sinai adjacent to Gaza for resettlement of the Palestinian refugees, an idea first floated by former Israeli National Security Adviser Giora Eiland. "They [the Egyptians] are prepared to receive all the refugees, [saying] 'let's end the refugee story'," Abbas was quoted by Ma'an news agency as saying.

- Father, maybe this is a step in the right direction for Egypt to receive the refugees, however the refusal by the Palestinians seems a confirmation that they remain unready and unwilling to make peace. Father, may Your plan and purpose prevail in this situation. In Jesus Name.

- The LORD works out everything for His own ends. (Proverbs 16:4)

4. "Beware America, They Are Coming For Us" - Lt. Gen. McInerney on FoxNews - Red State

Yesterday morning on Fox & Friends Lt. Gen. McInerney once again called for the United States to move to DEFCON 1, which is our highest state of readiness and implies an attack on the homeland is imminent. Not only did call for this move a second time, he expanded on what he knows and the capabilities that ISIS has.

- Father, move upon our government leaders to do what is necessary to protect our homeland. This Lt. Gen. McInerney has called for DEFCON 1 a second time. We come against any plans of destruction that the enemy has prepared for us. May all their scheming come to nothing. May they turn on themselves and run in opposite directions. We pray they weaken in their efforts and their organization diminishes. In Jesus Name.

- When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the LORD caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords. The army fled to Beth Shittah toward Zererah as far as the border of Abel Meholah near Tabbath. (Judges 7:22)

5. Record 92,269,000 Not in Labor Force; Participation Rate Matches 36-Year Low - CNS News

A record 92,269,000 Americans 16 and older did not participate in the labor force in August, as the labor force participation rate matched a 36-year low of 62.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

- Father, we speak recovery to our job market. May jobs abound, and may Americans rise and participate in the job market. We thank You for breakthrough in our nation. We pray revival, recovery, and restoration to the people in these 50, United States of America.

- Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. (Jeremiah 6:16)

6. Obama Vows to 'Degrade and Ultimately Destroy' ISIS - NBC News

Obama: The Goal Is To 'Dismantle' ISIS

President Barack Obama vowed Friday to "degrade and ultimately destroy" the militants of ISIS - an organization that he said was too dangerous to be simply contained.

He said that NATO countries agreed on the need for immediate action against the militants, who have rampaged across Syria and Iraq and have vowed to establish a caliphate across the Middle East. He also said that Arab states, including those with a Sunni majority, must help as well.

"You can't contain an organization that is running roughshod through that much territory, causing that much havoc, displacing that many people, killing that many innocents, enslaving that many women," he said. "The goal has to be to dismantle them." He said that included bolstering Iraqi security forces and taking out ISIS leaders. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that this NATO conference spent most of its time addressing the imminent threat of the rise of ISIS, and that these nations are now banning together to take it down. We ask for Your hand to be upon all who will be directly involved in planning and executing the strategies needed to dismantle ISIS, and we thank You for Your mercy that yet rests upon us. In Jesus' name, amen.

- "Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And let those who love Your salvation say continually,
"Let God be magnified."
But I am afflicted and needy;
Hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O Lord, do not delay."
(Psalm 70:4,5)

7. Report: US building international coalition to defeat Islamic State - Worthy News

US reportedly recruiting Britain, Australia for potential military action against group

The United States is looking to build an international coalition to fight the Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq, Reuters reported US officials as saying on Wednesday. They are reportedly hoping to recruit Britain and Australia to join potential military action to be taken against the group.

Jen Psaki, US State Department Spokesperson, told reporters the US is "working with our partners and asking how they might be able to contribute. There are a range of ways to contribute: humanitarian, military, intelligence, diplomatic."

Germany has also reportedly joined talks on how to deal with the militants overrunning Iraq and Syria, but they have said emphatically that they will not be involved militarily. (Read more)

- Lord God, again we thank You for this new development in the global war on terror. We ask that these words be matched with immediate, swift action, before more lives are lost at the hands of ISIS. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

- "Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins." (Psalm 7:9)

8. Rev. Graham: 'As I Read the News, I Can't Help But Wonder if We're in Last Hours' - CNSNews.com

Rev. Franklin Graham, head of the international Christian aid group Samaritan's Purse and son of world-renowned preacher Billy Graham, said that given all the "bad news" about the killing of Christians by Muslims in some countries, and attacks on Christians by the media and the government even in America, he cannot "help but wonder if we are in the last hours before our Lord Jesus Christ returns."

"As I read the news, I can't help but wonder if we are in the last hours before our Lord Jesus Christ returns to rescue His church and God pours out His wrath on the world for the rejection of His Son," said Rev. Graham in a post on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) website.

"I don't know if we have hours, days, months, or years-but as Christians, God calls us to take the truth of the Gospel to the ends of the earth," said Graham. "Our job is to warn sinners of the consequences of sin and show them that God is loving and gracious, willing to forgive if we come to Him in repentance and faith." (Read more)

- As we work here, day by day, putting the Brief together as a tool of intercession in these last days, we too wonder if we are not now in the last hours before we are all called home. Abba Father, we ask for Your grace to rest upon each one of us tonight, that You would grant us many, many doors for the Gospel to be released, beginning with members of our own households, and then on into the highways and the byways of our cities. We ask this prayer tonight, in Jesus' name, amen. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!

- "And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains." (Colossians 4:3)

Slashing Israel's defense budget would severely compromise the country's security and lead it to "places that mustn't be reached," Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said Friday. According to Israel Radio, Ya'alon said the government must do all it can to ensure that in a few years, Israelis do not look back in horror at the heavy price they paid due to lack of investment in security.

Ya'alon asserted that cutting the military's budget would make it impossible for Israel to maintain a skilled and trained army, equipped with first-class technology, Israel Radio reported. (Read more)

1. Islamic State guides Egyptian militants, expanding its influence - Reuters

Islamic State, fighting to redraw the map of the Middle East, has been coaching Egypt's most dangerous militant group, complicating efforts to stabilize the biggest Arab nation.

Confirmation that Islamic Sate, currently the most successful of the region's jihadi groups, is extending its influence to Egypt will sound alarm bells in Cairo, where the authorities are already facing a security challenge from home-grown militants.

A senior commander from the Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which has killed hundreds of members of the Egyptian security forces over the last year, said Islamic State has provided instructions on how to operate more effectively. "They teach us how to carry out operations. We communicate through the internet," the commander, who asked to remain anonymous, told Reuters. "They don't give us weapons or fighters. But they teach us how to create secret cells, consisting of five people. Only one person has contact with other cells." (Read more)

Iran's Supreme Leader has approved co-operation with the US as part of the fight against Islamic State (IS) in Iraq, sources have told BBC Persian. Ayatollah Khamenei has authorised his top commander to co-ordinate military operations with the US, Iraqi and Kurdish forces, sources in Tehran say.

Iran has traditionally opposed US involvement in Iraq, an Iranian ally. However, Shia Iran sees the extremist Sunni IS group, which views Shias as heretics, as a serious threat. (Read more)

3. Iraqi soldier survives Isis mass execution by lying on floor - and pretending to be dead - Independent UK

Human Rights Watch say militants killed up to 770 men in June killings

An Iraqi soldier survived a mass execution carried out by Islamic State militants (Isis) by dropping to the floor and pretending to be dead. Islamic State (Isis) militants killed up to 770 men in mass executions at five locations in Tikrit after seizing the city in northern Iraq in June, Human Rights Watch has claimed. Ali, a 23-year-old soldier who survived of one of the shootings, identified one of three newly discovered sites. He was captured on 12 June with thousands of other men at 11am as they tried to flee along the main road from a military base. Other soldiers and officers had advised him to wear civilian clothes to try to avoid detection by Isis fighters.

Ali said he was among prisoners held in a shipping container in a palace compound in the city before being taken out in a group of 10 at about 5pm, where the men were lined up to be shot with pistols one after another. He told HRW he survived by falling down and pretending to be dead when he was not hit by bullets. He then waited for hours before escaping under the cover of darkness. (Read more)

4. U.S. Concerned Terrorists Will Seize Syrian Chemical Weapons - Israel National News

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said on Thursday that the United States is concerned that the most dangerous terrorist groups could get a hold of chemical weapons if Syria is hiding any stockpiles. Power spoke to reporters after the Security Council received a briefing from Sigrid Kaag, who heads the international effort to rid Syria of its chemical weapons, according to The Associated Press (AP). If President Bashar Al-Assad is hiding any stockpiles, Power said they could fall into the hands of 'extremist groups who have committed some of the most vile acts in the last few days.' ISIS Flag Flies on Temple Mount

Israel: 'Thousands' of Isis Supporters Rally at Temple Mount in Jerusalem

A gathering of thousands of Isis (now known as the Islamic State) supporters has taken place at Jerusalem's Temple Mount, according to local Israeli media.

The report by the Israeli television station Channel 10 (to be broadcast next week) added the gathering further demonstrated the terror group's sights were firmly focused on Israel as a future target.

The rally, which took place on a recent Friday prayer session, was organised by the Tahrir party, described as the "Palestine branch" of IS. The author of the report, Zvi Yehezkeli, said a widely shared photo of an IS supporter was taken next to his position at the Temple Mount. He added the terror group "now knocking on Jordan's door, has marked 'Palestine' as the next target on its list".

In July, IS told the Palestinian people it was "only a matter of time" before they reach Palestine to join the fight against "barbaric Jews". "It is only matter of time and patience before it [IS] reaches Palestine to fight the barbaric Jews and kill those of them hiding behind the gharqad trees - the trees of the Jews," read the statement, released on social media.

The group said it would do "everything within its means" to continue the fight against any obstacle on the way to "Palestine", alluding to the Middle Eastern territory before the creation of the State of Israel in 1948.

"As for the massacres taking place in Gaza against the Muslim men, women and children, then the Islamic State will do everything within its means to continue striking down every apostate who stands as an obstacle on its paths towards Palestine," the group said.

Earlier this week, Israeli officials announced IS had been banned from the country and anyone associated with the group would face the full force of the law.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon signed the law that banned gatherings of organisations that were sympathetic or friendly with IS. (International Business Times)

ISIS Threatens Putin

Islamic State Terrorists in Russian Jets: 'Putin, You're Next'

Islamic State terrorists fresh from the conquest of the last Syrian military base in the north of the country sent a 'special message' to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, as well as his key ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Tabqa airbase was taken after prolonged and intensive fighting which left hundreds of Islamic State and pro-regime forces dead. Its conquest meant that the Islamic State now controls all of Syria's northern Raqqa Province, as well as much of the northeast of the country.

After finally taking the base, the Islamic State released a video showing the mass execution of some 250 regime fighters, who were first ordered to march through the desert stripped to their underwear. Jihadis also circulated pictures of heavy weaponry and Russian-made MiG fighter jets they had seized.

In a video dated August 31, a group of Arab IS fighters address Assad directly from inside a hangar in the base.

'You'd better watch out Bashar - we're coming for you in planes!' declares one terrorist from atop a captured Russian aircraft. 'We'll be coming for you from the skies, with these planes, Allah willing.' 'Brace yourself for what's coming, you pig.'

A second, young fighter then addresses Putin, whose military and political support has been crucial in keeping Assad in power.

'Vladimir Putin, these are the Russian planes that you sent to Bashar. Allah willing, we will take them back to your own turf, and liberate Chechnya and the Caucasus, Allah willing. Your throne is being threatened by us,' he said. (Israel National News) Read more

The Daily Jot

Of Atheist bullies, inane judges, schools and God

The First Amendment reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." On March 15, 1982, President Ronald Reagan said, "The first amendment was not written to protect the American people from religion; the first amendment was written to protect the American people from government tyranny." On September 25, 1982, Reagan said,"To prevent those who believe in God from expressing their faith is an outrage...The relentless drive to eliminate God from our schools...should be stopped."

As we begin football season, several schools have trampled on the rights of coaches, students, student athletes and even parents by attempting to ban prayer before, during and after games. For example, the Washington Times has reported that Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation successfully bullied Orange County Florida school district to ban local ministers, team chaplains, even references to biblical verses on school property. Coaches and teachers are also prohibited from being present at or participating in student-led prayers. The same organization has sent letters to other school districts in Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee threatening law suits for such activities.

I have coached basketball and football for over 40 years. Wherever I was at and whatever team I coached, either myself, another coach, a parent, or an athlete led prayer before the game and after the game. Often we prayed during the game. I have seen lives transformed because of the Christian presence on our teams. My former athletes often tell me about how our coaching and dedication to the Lord changed them at critical points. In training college and pro football athletes, there is no doubt that faith and prayer is a part of many of their lives. Parents, students, coaches, teachers, and administrators in our public schools should openly disobey any court that tells them they cannot exercise their First Amendment rights of religious freedom. Herein, the courts are wrong and have absolutely no authority.

First Amendment protection for the free exercise of religion is obvious--for anywhere, anytime and anybody. A pompous judge or a radical atheist group has no say as the Constitution is the law of the land. Judges who rule against the First Amendment should be removed from office as they are not upholding the Constitution according to their oath of office. No American should submit to such tyranny. When the Sadducees in Acts banned and imprisoned Peter and the apostles from teaching in the name of Jesus, first the prisons couldn't hold them and "Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men." Silence and inaction in the face of tyranny is consent.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

ISIS OR ISIL????

ISIS OR ISIL????

Decoding the president . . .

The Coded Message Obama Delivers When He Says ISIL Instead Of ISIS

"And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:3)

In one press conference after another, when referring to the Muslim terror super-group ISIS, United States President Barack Obama will use the term ISIL instead of their former name ISIS or current name Islamic State. Have you ever wondered about that? We have.
What makes up the near exact center of the Muslim Levant? Israel.
ISIL stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. Now, to us Westerners we don't really make much of a distinction, do we? No, honestly from our perspective its all about the same. But how would a Muslim living in the Middle East view it? Just what is the Levant anyway? Let's take a look.
The geographical term LEVANT refers to a multi-nation region in the Middle East. It's a land bridge between Turkey to the north and Egypt to the south. If you look on a map, however, in the near exact middle of the nations that comprise the Levant, guess what you see? Come on, guess!
It's Israel.
When Barack Obama refers over and over to the Islamic State as ISIL, he is sending a message to Muslims all over the Middle East that he personally does not recognize Israel as a sovereign nation, but as territory belonging to the Islamic State.
Now you know why Obama says that he has no plan, no goal, and no stated aim for dealing with ISIS. But he does have a plan, and it's a really nasty, diabolical one. Obama's plan is to drag his feet for as long as he can, doing only the bare minimum that Congress forces him to do. His "plan" to buy ISIS as much time as possible to make as many gains as they can.

And it's working.

The Islamic State has garnered millions of dollars, a vast cache of weapons, and in their latest foray have captured Syrian fighter jets. With each passing day that Obama fulfills his stated aim of doing nothing, the Islamic State grows by leaps and bounds. The ultimate goal, of course, has not changed and will never change.

The ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel.

Now you know a little bit more why Obama chooses his words so carefully, and what's really in a name. Shakespeare had it right. (Now the End Begins) Read more.

Islam in Europe

Islam in Europe: A Sober Wake-Up Call for Prayer and Action
A Nigerian prayer leader, himself a former Muslim, has sent this provocative and chilling speech of Geert Wilders, a Dutch Member of Parliament and the Chairman of the Party for Freedom in the Netherlands. Here are some excerpts from it to ground and guide your prayers:
I come to America with a mission. All is not well in the old world. There is a tremendous danger looming, and it is very difficult to be optimistic. We might be in the final stages of the Islamization of Europe. This not only is a clear and present danger to the future of Europe itself, it is a threat to America and the sheer survival of the West. The United States as the last bastion of Western civilization, facing an Islamic Europe. . .

The Europe you know is changing. You have probably seen the landmarks. But in all of these cities, sometimes a few blocks away from your tourist destination, there is another world. It is the world of the parallel society created by Muslim mass-migration.

All throughout Europe a new reality is rising: entire Muslim neighborhoods where very few indigenous people reside or are even seen. And if they are, they might regret it. This goes for the police as well. It's the world of head scarves, where women walk around in figureless tents, with baby strollers and a group of children. Their husbands, or slaveholders if you prefer, walk three steps ahead. With mosques on many street corners. The shops have signs you and I cannot read. You will be hard-pressed to find any economic activity. These are Muslim ghettos controlled by religious fanatics. These are Muslim neighborhoods, and they are mushrooming in every city across Europe. These are the building-blocks for territorial control of increasingly larger portions of Europe, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city.
. . . The second thing you need to know is the importance of Mohammed the prophet. His behavior is an example to all Muslims and cannot be criticized.. Now, if Mohammed had been a man of peace, let us say like Gandhi and Mother Theresa wrapped in one, there would be no problem. But Mohammed was a warlord, a mass murderer, a pedophile, and had several marriages - at the same time. Islamic tradition tells us how he fought in battles, how he had his enemies murdered and even had prisoners of war executed. Mohammed himself slaughtered the Jewish tribe of Banu Qurayza. If it is good for Islam, it is good. If it is bad for Islam, it is bad.

Let no one fool you about Islam being a religion. Sure, it has a god, and a here-after, and 72 virgins. But in its essence Islam is a political ideology. It is a system that lays down detailed rules for society and the life of every person. Islam wants to dictate every aspect of life. Islam means 'submission'. Islam is not compatible with freedom and democracy, because what it strives for is sharia. If you want to compare Islam to anything, compare it to communism or national socialism, these are all totalitarian ideologies.

Dear friends, liberty is the most precious of gifts. My generation never had to fight for this freedom, it was offered to us on a silver platter, by people who fought for it with their lives. All throughout Europe , American cemeteries remind us of the young boys who never made it home, and whose memory we cherish. My generation does not own this freedom; we are merely its custodians. We can only hand over this hard won liberty to Europe 's children in the same state in which it was offered to us. We cannot strike a deal with mullahs and imams. Future generations would never forgive us. We cannot squander our liberties. We simply do not have the right to do so.

We have to take the necessary action now to stop this Islamic stupidity from destroying the free world that we know.

1. Pray with our brothers and sisters in Christ in Europe that their governments will wake up and take a strong hand in not allowing the Islamic agenda to take over and dominate their societies.

2. Pray for those seeking to reach Muslims with the Gospel for His guidance and blessing and for many more such ministries to begin reaching out strongly and effectively to the burgeoning Muslim immigrant populations.

Why God Judges Nations

Why God Judges Nations

by Chuck Colson

At Intercessors for Israel's 2013 International Prayer Conference in Jerusalem, I shared a message called "The Judgments of God" - with an emphasis on His judgments on nations today. God has used Israel in the Old Testament as an example of how He deals with national sin, especially when a nation based upon His laws rebels against Him. However, the Bible plainly states that Israel's miraculous end time restoration brings into play another factor: in the last days God judges nations according to their leaders' attitudes and actions regarding His promise to restore Israel. God has staked His reputation, His Name, on this. His whole redemptive plan now focuses on Israel being in the land that He promised to them.

As intercessors, we stand in the gap for our nations, pleading for mercy because of sins such as abortion, sexual perversions, violence, corruption, etc. Yet, are intercessors dealing with the one root issue that brings God's ever increasing judgments today? Praying against unrighteousness is good, but in some cases the wrong actions of a people do not bring God's judgment on a nation - they are a sign that God is already judging that nation!
That one root issue is Israel. We are not talking about a few bible verses concerning this - but literally dozens. During the message, I only had time to share a few of those verses, but because of its urgency, I offer many of the relevant verses here.

A biblical understanding of how and why God judges nations has been hijacked from the Church. The intercessor willing to stand in the gap for his nation and for God's kingdom purposes may have already gotten it backward. Let's build on what God Himself says about it.

Most intercessors are familiar with the scriptures showing how intercession moves God to have mercy in the midst of His judgments.

And I sought for a man among them who should make up the hedge for the land, and stand in the gap before me, that I should not destroy it. But I did not find one. (Ezekiel 22:30)

Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in her open places, if you can find a man, if there is one who does justice, who seeks the truth; and I will pardon her. (Jeremiah 5:1)

He said that He would destroy them, if Moses His chosen had not stood before Him in the breach, to turn away His wrath, so that He should not destroy them. (Psalm 106:23_

The Good News Corner:

Man Was Taken by Emergency Responders to the Hospital. When His Family Returned Home, This Note Was Waiting for Them.

A Texas fire department is attracting nationwide attention for actions they took after helping rush a man to the hospital last week for a heart attack.

The individual, John McCormick, 65, was mowing his lawn when he suffered a heart attack, collapsing inside his home as his family called for help. Medics arrived at the scene and took the 65-year-old, who had a history of heart problems to the hospital.

The firefighters followed the medics to the hospital, per normal operating procedure - but it's what they did next that has them in the media spotlight.

Baytown's Engine 4 decided to head back to the McCormick home and finish the job he started. The team mowed the rest of the man's lawn.

"We're all fighting over who can push the mower first," Lt. J.D. Giles told KHOU-TV.

"I just happened to get off the truck first and grabbed the lawnmower first. We were all fighting over it," firefighter Blake Steffenauer added.

The entire act was caught on camera by a neighbor who later uploaded the images online.

According to KHOU, the firefighters even mowed the backyard, locked the garage and put the padlock's key in the mailbox.

They then left a handwritten note to the family.

"We felt bad that your husband didn't get to finish the yard, so we did. We noticed the padlock to the garage was unlocked so we locked it and placed your key in the mailbox," the note said. "We are very sorry that your husband became ill, we hope he has a speedy recovery."

"Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you out," it read.

WEEKEND ASTEROID FLYBY

This Sunday, a house-sized asteroid named "2014 RC" will fly through the Earth-Moon system almost inside the orbit of geosynchronous satellites. At closest approach, Sept. 7th at 18:18 UTC, the 20-meter-wide space rock will pass just 40,000 km over New Zealand. This diagram from NASA shows the geometry of the encounter:(Go here)

There is no danger of a collision with Earth.

Asteroid 2014 RC was discovered on the night of August 31 by the Catalina Sky Survey near Tucson, Arizona, and independently detected the next night by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope, located on the summit of Haleakalā on Maui, Hawaii. Follow-up observations quickly confirmed the orbit of 2014 RC: it comes from just beyond the orbit of Mars.

The close appproach of this space rock offers researchers an opportunity for point-blank studies of a near-Earth asteroid. Even amateur astronomers will be able to track it. Around the time of closest approach, it will brighten to magnitude +11.5 as it zips through the constellation Pisces. This means it will be invisible to the naked eye but a relatively easy target for backyard telescopes equipped with CCD cameras. [ephemeris] [3D orbit]

According to NASA, "[the orbit of 2014 RC] will bring it back to our planet's neighborhood in the future. The asteroid's future motion will be closely monitored, but no future threatening Earth encounters have been identified." (SpaceWeather.com)

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
(Luke 21:25-28)

Today's Birthdays

Today's Birthdays on the Hill

Almost every day of the year, a member of Congress or a Senator is celebrating a birthday. Let's lift up these men and women, day by day in prayer on their special day, that God might bless them and show them His love for each one. Indeed, let's move together in obedience to the Lord's mandate in I Timothy 2:1-4. It is written:
"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Today's Birthday Greetings go to:

Rep. Alcee L. Hastings (FL)

Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (NH)
