Pink slips and promotions fly at White House in chaotic day of turnover
1. Trump ousts Tillerson, taps CIA Director Pompeo for State Dept - Washington Times
President Trump fired Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson unceremoniously Tuesday and replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. Speaking to reporters at the White House as he departed for California, Mr. Trump said he and Mr. Tillerson had numerous disagreements over the past 14 months. "Rex and I have been talking about this for a long time," the president said. "We disagreed on things, like the Iran [nuclear] deal. I think it's terrible. I guess he thought it's OK. I wanted to either break it or do something, and he felt a little bit differently. We were not really thinking the same. It was a different mindset." The president added, "I think Rex will be much happier now." A senior White House official said of the timing of Mr. Tillerson's ouster, "The president wanted to make sure to have his new team in place in advance of the upcoming talks with North Korea and various ongoing trade negotiations."
The president also announced that Deputy CIA Director Gina Haspel will become the new director, and the first woman so chosen. Both Mr. Pompeo and Ms. Haspel will require Senate confirmation. Some national security insiders, meanwhile, have mused during recent months that Mr. Pompeo might be a stronger fit for secretary of state because of his focus on the North Korea crisis. One of Mr. Pompeo's signature moves as CIA director was the creation last year of a Korea Mission Center focused on examining the North Korean missile threat and how best to manage the crisis. He said Mr. Pompeo "will continue our program of restoring America's standing in the world, strengthening our alliances, confronting our adversaries, and seeking the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
He said Ms. Haspel will set a "historic milestone" if confirmed for the CIA post. He said the CIA "will continue to thrive under the leadership of Gina Haspel." Ms. Haspel, a CIA officer for 30 years, said she is "humbled" by the president's confidence in her. "If confirmed, I look forward to providing President Trump the outstanding intelligence support he has grown to expect during his first year in office," she said. Former CIA Director John Brennan and human-rights groups said Ms. Haspel will face questions from the Senate about her role in overseeing the agency's waterboarding and rendition programs in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She reportedly ran a secret "blacksite" in Thailand. Mr. Brennan, who led the agency under President Barack Obama and has been a vocal critic of Mr. Trump, said Ms. Haspel "has a lot of integrity." "She has tried to carry out her duties at CIA to the best of her ability, even when CIA was asked to do some very difficult things in very challenging times," he said. (Read more)

President Trump on Tuesday unceremoniously fired his embattled top diplomat Rex Tillerson as secretary of state and said he would replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
The president announced his ousting of Tillerson on Twitter. Tillerson was unaware of the reason for being fired when Trump went public with the news, a State Department spokesman said.
"Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State," the president tweeted. "He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!" (Read more)

n a Twitter message Tuesday morning, President Trump announced some major changes in his administration:
"Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!"
Haspel is the current deputy director of the CIA, and she may face a tough confirmation fight, based on opposition already coming in from groups such as the ACLU.
Pompeo is taking over the State Department at a time when President Trump expects to speak face-to-face with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

4. Pink slips and promotions fly at White House in chaotic day of turnover - Fox News
A key Cabinet official was canned and another promoted, while one of the president's closest aides was escorted from the White House on Tuesday in one of the busiest - and most chaotic - days of the Trump administration.
It all started when President Donald Trump unceremoniously fired his embattled Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in an unexpected morning tweet and announced he was giving Tillerson's job to CIA Director Mike Pompeo. In the same tweet, Trump named Gina Haspel, Pompeo's deputy at the spy agency, the new director of the CIA.
News then broke that John McEntee, a former UConn quarterback who serves as the president's personal aide, was ousted from his official job, given a new job with the Trump campaign and escorted from the White House under mysterious circumstances.
Then a few hours later, a top Tillerson aide, Steve Goldstein, lost his job at the State Department after issuing a statement about how Tillerson didn't understand why he was being fired.
In all the chaos, though, Trump is expressing confidence that the changes will be positive for his administration. "I'm really at a point where we're getting very close to having the Cabinet and other things that I want," Trump told reporters Tuesday at the White House. (Read more)
5. Trump aide John McEntee escorted out of White House, moves to campaign- Fox News
President Trump's longtime personal aide was unceremoniously escorted from the White House Monday and moved to a position at Trump's 2020 campaign -- the latest in a series of rapid-fire personnel departures.
The Trump campaign announced Tuesday that John McEntee, a former UConn quarterback, would be the new senior adviser for campaign operations.
A White House official told Fox News that McEntee was escorted out of the building on Monday. The Wall Street Journal first reported on McEntee's departure, citing an unspecified security issue.
CNN, meanwhile, reported that he was under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for financial crimes. The Secret Service offered "no comment" when asked to confirm that report. Sources also told Fox News that security clearance was not the issue. (Read more)

1. Palestinians to Sue US at International Criminal Court over Jerusalem Recognition - United with Israel
The Palestinian Authority (PA) plans to file a legal complaint against US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to a Palestinian official, the Turkish Anadolu Agency reported Monday.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki will fly to The Hague in the near future to file a suit against the US at the ICC over Trump's official recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December, Saleh Rafat, an executive committee member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), told the official Voice of Palestine radio.
Trump's historic recognition has "violated all international laws and resolutions," Rafat calimed, without giving further details about the legal basis for the complaint.

2. Arabs planning 'day of rage' on Friday - Israel National News
The National and Islamic Forces, the supreme coordinating body of the Palestinian organizations, announced on Monday that this coming Friday, March 16, will be a "day of popular rage" at all points of friction, checkpoints and "settlements".
The official announcement by the National and Islamic Forces calls on the Palestinian public to rise up against the policy of the American administration and Israel on the Palestinian issue, stressing the importance of implementing the decisions of the PLO Central Council, including severing ties with Israel and revoking recognition of Israel as long as it does not recognize the "state of Palestine".

3. Undercover Israeli operation brings down 22 arms traffickers in West Bank, East Jerusalem - Jerusalem Online
The Israel Police revealed on Monday that 22 arms traffickers were arrested and a significant amount of drugs, explosives, weapons, cash and ammunition were confiscated in East Jerusalem as a six-month undercover operation came to an end.
As part of the operation, an officer went undercover in East Jerusalem and the West Bank and eventually purchased 11 explosive devices, various firearms and ammunition. The undercover cop collected evidence on the main suspects, some of whom are even members of Palestinian terrorist groups.

4. Israelis Divided Over Military Drafting of Ultra-Orthodox Jews - Algemeiner
A decades-old exemption of ultra-Orthodox Jews from compulsory military service is a deeply divisive issue in Israel at the heart of a cabinet crisis that could lead to an early election.
A preliminary vote in parliament on a new bill that would maintain the exemption is expected on Tuesday. One faction in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's six-party coalition government has vowed to defy him and oppose the legislation.
That could cause Netanyahu's government to unravel, setting the stage for the possible dissolution of parliament and a snap election in which he would seek a new mandate to help survive corruption allegations threatening his political survival.
The exemption enjoyed by ultra-Orthodox seminary students has long caused friction in Israel, where Jewish women and men are called up for military service at the age of 18.

5. Palestinian PM escapes assassination attempt in Gaza - Israel Hayom
An explosion struck the convoy of the Palestinian prime minister Tuesday as he was making a rare visit to Gaza, in what his Fatah party called an assassination attempt it blamed on Gaza terrorists.
The explosion went off shortly after the convoy entered Gaza through the Erez border crossing between Israel and Gaza.
Gaza's Hamas-run interior ministry said the explosion hit as the prime minister's convoy passed near the northern town of Beit Hanoun. No one was injured, and security services have launched an investigation, ministry spokesman Eyad Al-Bozom said.
Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was unharmed and went on to inaugurate a long-awaited sewage plant project in the northern part of the strip.

1. "No Precedent In US Political History": "Extraordinary Number" Of Ex-CIA Operatives Are Running For Congress As Democrats - Gateway Pundit
At no time in U.S. political history have more ex-CIA operatives sought the Democratic nomination for Congress, reports Patrick Martin of the World Socialist Web Site. WSWS reports: "An extraordinary number of former intelligence and military operatives from the CIA, Pentagon, National Security Council and State Department are seeking nomination as Democratic candidates for Congress in the 2018 midterm elections. The potential influx of military-intelligence personnel into the legislature has no precedent in US political history. If the Democrats capture a majority in the House of Representatives on November 6, as widely predicted, candidates drawn from the military-intelligence apparatus will comprise as many as half of the new Democratic members of Congress. They will hold the balance of power in the lower chamber of Congress."
Yet, where does this new development tie in with the Deep State's war on President Trump? Kim Dotcom hits the nail squarely on the head. "The Deep State no longer wants to rely on unreliable puppets. They want to run politics directly now," the internet entrepreneur tweeted in response to the report Saturday. WikiLeaks' Julian Assange sees this new trend as something much larger - rather an unprecedented convergence of power. 2. Tony Perkins: Religious Freedom Restoration Under Trump Will End If Evangelicals Don't Vote Republican - Christian Post
If conservative evangelicals fail to participate in the midterm elections this November, the "restoration of religious freedom and the freedom of speech" established under President Donald Trump will end, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins has warned. "We need to be wise and act quickly, not only using these freedoms to spread the good news, but also to put in place policies that will protect and promote these essential freedoms, not just for ourselves but those yearning for freedom around the globe and generations yet unborn," he said. "Evangelicals understood what was at stake and voted," Perkins contended. "But the election was not the end of our responsibility, but rather the beginning of our opportunity. First by acting upon it, but also preserving it."
Because of the importance of the evangelical voter, there is an "intense effort on the Left" to suppress their turnout in the upcoming elections by dampening the enthusiasm of conservative voters, Perkins warned. If conservatives - and in particular evangelical voters - do not turn out this November, "one of the first orders of business (if Democrats win the House) will be the impeachment of President Trump," Perkins cautioned. "They most likely will not succeed in removing him from office, but they will most likely succeed in stopping what this administration is doing." Perkins urged evangelical voters to "act upon the opportunity that we have to fortify our freedoms, and to ensure government does not again try to quarantine our Christian faith within the walls of our churches." 3. Mueller invokes unusual 'conspiracy to defraud government' charge to ensnare more targets - Washington Times
Special counsel Robert Mueller and his prosecutors have invoked an unusual "conspiracy to defraud the government" charge to ensnare a Russian cyber network and could use the same legal strategy to go after President Trump and his associates, even if the conspiracy is not linked to a criminal act. Last month, Mr. Mueller, a Republican and former FBI director, indicted 13 Russian nationals connected to the Internet Research Agency (IRA) Russian "troll farm," accusing the IRA of interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election by spreading fake news stories through U.S. social media. The same approach was employed in securing a plea deal last month with Rick Gates, the aide for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. What has attracted attention in legal circles is the underlying legal theory behind the indictments, accusing the Russians of essentially committing a crime by preventing agencies of the U.S. government from carrying out the duties. Mr. Mueller appears to be leveraging the theory "into a powerful instrument with respect to both foreign and domestic actors," according to a recent article on Lawfare, a national security blog by the Lawfare Institute and Brookings Institution.
The "conspiracy to defraud" approach, the Lawfare authors point out, "has been sitting in plain sight in the general conspiracy statute since 1948 (and an earlier provision with substantially similar language dates to 1867). The statute makes it illegal for two or more persons to 'conspire either to commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose.'" The authors add that "unlike conspiracy to commit an offense, conspiracy to defraud the United States need not be connected to a specific underlying crime," and "defraud" is not defined by the law. 4. Trump's School Safety Plan Includes Hardening Schools, Strengthening Background Checks, Mental Health Reform - CNS News
The White House on Monday rolled out President Donald Trump's school safety plan, which focuses on four areas: hardening schools, strengthening background checks, mental health reform, and reviewing funding proposals for preventing school violence. Trump also supports the framework of the STOP School Violence Act, which gives state-based grants to implement evidence-based violence prevention programs. The president is proposing increased integration of mental health, primary care, and family services, as well as support for programs that utilize court-ordered treatment. The plan also calls for a review of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other statutory and regulatory privacy protections.
Finally, the president is calling for the establishment of a federal commission chaired by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos "to address school safety and the culture of violence." It will study and make recommendations on a number of areas, including: age restrictions for certain firearm purchases; existing entertainment rating systems and youth consumption of violent entertainment; the effects of press coverage of mass shootings; repeal of the Obama administration's 'Rethink School Discipline' policies; and the effectiveness and appropriateness of psychotropic medication for treatment of troubled youth. 5. MAGA Direct: Trump trumps the media again - Washington Times
For the first time, the president provided his own live video feed of his campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, streamed across multiple social media channels and websites, bypassing standard broadcast outlets altogether. All future events - and there will be many - will follow the same method. "This will include crowd shots that the mainstream media have intentionally neglected to show at Trump rallies since they became an important function of the Make America Great Again movement in 2015," says campaign manager Brad Parscale, who is pleased by the debut of the new outreach.
"Americans were able to experience a Trump rally without the filter of the mainstream media thanks to our MAGA Direct beta live stream that we delivered to our social media channels and websites for the first time," Mr. Parscale continues. "We will continue to model ourselves after President Trump and explore new ways to leverage social and digital media. Through our live streaming of campaign events, we can connect more directly with Americans who serve as our inspiration." The campaign says MAGA Direct will be available on Mr. Trump's personal Facebook page and Twitter feed, along with the Donald J. Trump YouTube channel; and via DonaldJTrump.com and GOP.com/videos. 6. Donald Trump and trade - Washington Times
Last week President Trump dialed back his earlier call for a punitive and blanket tariff on imported steel and aluminum. I was opposed to the steel tariffs. But Mr. Trump makes a strong case that many of our trading partners - most notably, China - are violating trade agreement rules left and right and stealing American patents and intellectual property protections. And they have been doing so for years and years with impunity. China is estimated to be pirating more than one-half trillion of American technology, inventions, drugs, vaccines and computer software each year. That is theft and it cannot stand. Since intellectual property is an ever-larger share of what America produces each year, the costs get exponentially higher.
Mr. Trump has introduced a new strategic doctrine on trade and though I have some reservations, it's important that we understand it and realistically assess its merits. The Trump doctrine as I see it, and this is based on my conversations with him on this subject, is predicated on the undeniable truism that nations like China and Russia need America far more than we need them. We both benefit from the transaction, but they benefit more than we do. Mr. Trump wants to exploit that American advantage. This strategic free trade stance is designed to monetize the advantage that America has as a result of having the largest and most lucrative market. (Read more)

7. Truth and the Transgender Movement - FRC
Many on the far Left have been so busy pushing radical transgender policies that they haven't stopped long enough to consider the consequences for the people they're claiming to help. Fortunately new research, the Washington Times reports, is screaming "Stop!" In the journal JAMA, experts from Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine are leading more people to urge caution in this rush to trans-friendly policies.
Despite what the sexual extremists might say, there's absolutely no conclusive evidence that procedures like gender reassignment are actually helping people. FRC's own Peter Sprigg has studied the effects of these surgeries extensively and knows that sometimes the treatments that promise the most help actually harm patients more. And Swedish researchers would be the first to say so. In their "'robust' study, the consequences of gender reassignment surgery are startling, and appear to be uniformly negative. They encompass not only higher rates of mental illness (as indicated by psychiatric hospitalization) than in the general Swedish population, but higher rates of physical illness -- cancer ("neoplasm") and heart disease -- as well. Most shocking of all, however, was the rate of completed suicides -- which was over 19 times higher than in the general Swedish population. Transgender activists often insist that the reason gender reassignment surgery is 'medically necessary' is in order to prevent the suicides which might otherwise occur among those who identify as transgender but are frustrated in their desire to surgically alter their bodies. Yet the Swedish study shows that extraordinary rates of suicide persist after surgery." (Read more)

8. Russian Spy Ship Off Georgia Coast - Free Beacon
A Russian spy ship is currently conducting surveillance operations in waters near a U.S. ballistic missile submarine base in Georgia, according to Navy officials. "We are tracking the Viktor Leonov's presence off the East Coast, much like we are aware of all vessels approaching the United States," said Navy Cmdr. Bill Speaks, a Navy spokesman. "We respect the right and freedoms of all nations to operate in international waters in accordance with international law," he added. A military official said the Leonov, a ship known for conducting annual forays near sensitive U.S. military facilities off the East Coast, is currently operating off the Georgia coast near Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, home to U.S. nuclear missile submarines. The ship for the past several days was located some 20 nautical miles offshore and has been closely shadowed by U.S. military ships and aircraft, including P-8 surveillance aircraft.
The spy operations come days after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Moscow's development of new and "invincible" nuclear weapons aimed at the United States. A video presentation during the Russian leader's speech showed a simulated multiple-warhead nuclear strike on Florida. Putin, in a speech in Moscow, also touted a new unmanned underwater vehicle capable of delivering a megaton-sized nuclear warhead against ports and coastal cities. (Read more)

The Democrat's Farrakhan problem
The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) is calling for seven Democratic Members of Congress to resign. They include radical Islamist Congressman and Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Hakim Mohammed (aka Keith Ellison), Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, Danny Davis, Andre Carson, Gregory Meeks, and Al Green. RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "(Nation of Islam leader Louis) Farrakhan is the moral equivalent of a leader of the KKK. If it was discovered that members of Congress had met with the leader of the KKK, they would need to resign. In this case, for meeting with, and embracing, Louis Farrakhan, nothing short of resignation is acceptable from these seven Democrats."
In response, the Nation of Islam's Executive Council wrote an open letter proving the RJC's point, saying that the RJC represented "White supremacy and the continuing effort to destroy our community . . Remember, it was the same Satanic Jews of yesterday that conspired against Jesus and had him killed by the ruling authority of the Roman Empire." The Nation of Islam's website says, "We believe we are people of God's choice." It also declares: "We believe in the truth of the Bible, but we believe that it has been tampered with and must be reinterpreted so that mankind will not be snared by the falsehoods that have been added to it." Yet, the Nation of Islam believes in only one God, allah, who has no son.
The Nation of Islam website also calls for: The United States to be divided between Blacks and Whites; all black Believers of Islam to be freed from all prisons; a new nation free from "white courts"; an exemption of black Believers of Islam from all taxation; Free education, including the freedom of Muslim teachers to teach and train their people in their ways; a prohibition on intermarriage or race mixing; Black Believers of Islam not fighting in any American war; and that Master W. Fard Muhammad is "the long-awaited "Messiah" of the Christians and the "Mahdi" of the Muslims." Fard is considered a co-founder of the Nation of Islam and its messiah. Farrakhan also once referred to the immediate ex-"president" as God.
The support of Farrakhan by these Members of Congress is the equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan and they should resign. Much of the Democratic Party leadership is fine with Farrakhan otherwise Keith Ellison would not have been elected as the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee. It's also fair to note that history documents incredible ties between the KKK and the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party's resistance to ending slavery and efforts to resist to the civil rights movement. When people call for the deconstruction of anti-Semitism and racism, a good place to start is the stronghold of political parties. How often are the accusers doing exactly what they accuse others of doing? As Christ said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Anti-Semitism and racism have no place in our society.

Signs and Wonders
A GASH IN THE SUN'S ATMOSPHERE
A canyon-like hole has opened in the sun's atmosphere, and it is spewing a broad stream of solar wind toward Earth. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is monitoring the structure.
This is a "coronal hole"--a region where the sun's magnetic field opens up and allows solar wind to escape. Coronal holes appear, in various shapes and forms, several times each month. This one is unusually wide, stretching more than 800,000 km across the face of the sun.
NOAA forecasters say there is a 55% chance of G1-class geomagnetic storms when the solar wind stream arrives on March 14th or 15th. G1-class storms are relatively minor and have little effect on satellites and global power grids. However, they can disorient animals that migrate using magnetic cues at high latitudes and usually spark bright auroras around the Arctic Circle. (Read more)

Our Mission Statement
Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]

This is a 30 minute national conference prayer call offered Monday through Saturday. We pray daily for our President, Cabinet, Supreme Court, one or two state legislatures, preambles, plus a moral topic and Israel. All are welcome to participate in prayer for our nation. Fellowship and Bible reading is optional for those who would like to remain on the line. The call is hosted by The Salt & Light Council.
