7.3 Magnitude Quake in Iran/Iraq

7.3 Magnitude Quake in Iran/Iraq

Tonight we join you in asking prayer for the victims of the mega-quake that has just hit this remote region on the border of Iran and Iraq. Please find specific needs for prayer below. Thank you.

- "Tremble, you earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob." (Psalms 114:7)

1. Iran-Iraq Earthquake Kills More Than 450 - NYT

Iranians dug through rubble in a frantic search for survivors on Monday, after a powerful earthquake struck near the Iraqi border, killing more than 450 people and injuring thousands of others in the world's deadliest earthquake so far this year.

The quake, recorded at 9:18 p.m. on Sunday, was felt as far away as Turkey and Pakistan. The epicenter was near Ezgeleh, Iran, about 135 miles northeast of Baghdad, and had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3, according to the United States Geological Survey. Seismologists in the country said it was the biggest quake to hit the western part of Iran.

Photographs from the region - a patchwork of farms and home to many Kurds, a large ethnic minority in Iran - posted on the internet showed collapsed buildings, cars destroyed by rubble and people sleeping in the streets in fear of aftershocks.

At least 445 people were killed and 7,370 people were injured in Iran, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, which gave an estimate significantly higher than the death toll of 407 that officials had announced earlier. (Read more)

2. Massive Earthquake Rocks Iraq and Iran: Tremors Shake Israel - JNS.org

At least 450 people were killed and more than 1,700 were injured Sunday night when a powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck in Iran and Iraq. Tremors were felt throughout the Middle East, including in Israel. (Read more)

3. EMERGENCY PRAYER REQUEST: IRAQ EARTHQUAKE - FRRME

As if the people of Iraq didn't have enough to cope with, now they have been hit by the deadliest earthquake this year. The quake, which measured 7.3 on The Richter Scale, occurred on the border between Iraq and Iran. Over 400 people are thought to have perished, with an estimated 7,000 injured.

Eyewitnesses compared the quake to a "huge bomb". There have also been reports of women and babies being pulled from the rubble. In Iraq, the Kurdish region has been worst hit. Our relief operation is based there, as are some of our staff and volunteers.

We ask our supporters for the following prayers:

- Pray for the victims of the earthquake, the injured and their families.

- Pray the emergency services are able to rescue those still trapped beneath the rubble.

- Pray for a cessation of violence while those affected are given vital assistance.

- Pray our team on the ground can continue delivering emergency aid to the most needy. (Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East, UK)

Focus on Israel

1. A Salute To Christian Zionist Volunteers In Israel -- HaYovel

History was made within the walls of Israel's Knesset building this past Monday afternoon. In the Shilansky Auditorium, the "Salute to Christian Zionist Volunteers in Israel" event, hosted by MK Sharren Haskel, was attended by pro-Israel Christian organizations, Knesset members and many other prominent Jewish voices from around Israel. HaYovel, Christian Friends of Israel-Jerusalem (CFI-Jerusalem), Christian Friends of Israeli Communities (CFOIC), and Return Ministries were among those represented.

Several key clips from the internationally acclaimed film I Am Israel were shown, including an interview with winery owner Ya'akov Berg from the vineyards of Israel's heartland. David Kiern, director of the film, shared the heart behind creating the documentary: to correct the false impression of Israel by displaying the miraculous beauty of what God is doing in her midst today.

2. Israel to embark on diplomatic offensive against Hezbollah/Iran at the UN - Jerusalem Post

Israel plans to ask the United Nations to strictly enforce the 2006 cease-fire agreement that ended the Second Lebanon War as part of its diplomatic offensive against Iran and its proxy, Hezbollah.

"In recent years, the organization [Hezbollah] has expanded its activity in Lebanese territory in a systematic violation of UN resolutions," Intelligence Minister Israel Katz (Likud) said in an interview he gave the Associated Press. His office then distributed those comments to the Israeli press on Friday morning.

Katz spoke in advance of a trip to the United States that he is scheduled to take in a few weeks, where he will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Katz plans to discuss UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and calls for the disarmament of armed groups in Lebanon, such as Hezbollah, and for the Lebanese government to control its country. It also demands that the UN Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) be the only armed force south of Lebanon's Litani River.

3. Abbas: PA could move to back one-state solution if two states fail - Times of Israel

If the two-state solution fails, Palestinians will back a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with full rights for all citizens, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday.

In a pre-recorded speech broadcast on large screens in Gaza City as tens of thousands gathered to mark the death of PLO leader Yasser Arafat, Abbas, who has not visited Gaza since his allies were thrown out by Hamas in 2007, hailed his predecessor's legacy.

"Our Palestinian people, who have always loved you as a great leader, still have that love, respect and loyalty," he said.

Abbas said the Palestinians were pushing ahead to seal reconciliation and to achieve Arafat's "dream . . . for freedom, sovereignty and independence on our Palestinian national soil."

4. New UNESCO chief says door must stay open for Israel, US - Israel Hayom

The new director general of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, said on Friday she would leave the door open to dialogue with member states such as the U.S. and Israel, who have declared their intention to quit.

She rebuked the U.S. for its decision to withdraw from the U.N. cultural body for alleged anti-Israel bias and says America is "affected by everything" the agency does.

Following her confirmation Friday, Azoulay acknowledged difficulties in the Paris-based organization that has been rocked by U.S. funding cuts since 2011 over the admission of Palestine as a member.

5. Police show up at Netanyahu's residence for 5th round of questioning - World Israel News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is being questioned under caution by police on Thursday for the fifth time in recent months at his official residence in Jerusalem over suspicions that he received illegal gifts.

The session will focus on a probe known as Case 1000, which involves the alleged receiving of expensive gifts from rich supporters, particularly from Israeli-born movie mogul Arnon Milchan, possibly in return for favors. The questioning also includes Case 2000, concerning a pact between Netanyahu and Yedioth Aharonoth publisher Noni Mozes. The prime minister allegedly proposed to use his power to weaken Yedioth's main rival, Israel Hayom, through the passage of a law curbing the latter's distribution in return for more positive coverage of the Netanyahu government in Yedioth.

- Father God, we lift up Prime Minister Netanyahu to You. We ask that You to bring peace and resolution to this investigation of him. We ask that You give him peace and strength. In the name of Yeshua, amen.

6. Iran builds military base in Syria, 30 miles from Israeli border - World Israel News

Iran's military is establishing a permanent base inside Syria, just outside Damascus, BBC reported on Friday.

Citing a "Western intelligence source," the report says that the Iranian military has taken over a compound at a site used by the Syrian army outside El-Kiswah, south of the Syrian capital and just a short 50 km from the border with Israel.

Satellite images of the purported site, commissioned by the BBC, appear to show construction activity at the site between January and October this year. The images show a series of two dozen large and low-rise buildings, likely for housing soldiers and vehicles. (Read more)

7. Report: Trump team drafts plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace - World Israel News

President Donald Trump and his team have begun to draft a peace plan of their own to resolve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, the New York Times reported Saturday.

Trump's Mideast envoy Jason Greenblatt and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, have visited the Middle East several times and have met with both sides over the past 10 months, and are now reportedly at the stage of drafting a document which they hope to present by early next year.

Greenblatt told The Times that the US has "spent a lot of time listening to and engaging with the Israelis, Palestinians and key regional leaders over the past few months to help reach an enduring peace deal." Greenblatt cautioned: "The US is not going to put an artificial timeline on the development or presentation of any specific ideas. Our goal is to facilitate, not dictate, a lasting peace agreement to improve the lives of Israelis and Palestinians and security across the region." (Read more)

8. Israel deploys 'Iron Dome' missile defense amid terror threats - World Israel News

Amid warnings of planned terror activity in retaliation for IDF operations against the Islamic Jihad, Israel has set up Iron Dome batteries in several locations in the center of the country.

The IDF believes the terror group is planning an attack on the Jewish state following the Israeli military's demolition of a Gaza terror tunnel two weeks ago. A total of 14 terrorists were killed in the aftermath of the tunnel collapse, including two senior Islamic Jihad field commanders.

Major General Yoav Mordechai, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), issued a warning Saturday night in Arabic in a Youtube video to terrorist groups in Gaza and Damascus that Israel will respond to any act of terror.

"We are aware of the plot that the Islamic Jihad has been planning against Israel," Mordechai declared. "They are playing with fire." (Read more)

10. Israel Thwarts Potential Bloodbath in Judea and Samaria - BFP

Friday, 10 November 2017 | Yesterday morning Israeli security forces thwarted a terror attack in Judea and Samaria when they arrested a Palestinian man armed with a meat cleaver and two knives outside the community of Kochav Yaakov (Star of Jacob), some 15 km [9 mi] north of Jerusalem.

The potential massacre was prevented by the vigilance and quick actions of a firefighter, who spotted the "suspicious man" outside the entrance of the community, which nearly 8,000 civilians call home, and called the police to investigate.

Officers from the Israel Police's Special Patrol Unit rushed to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspect after he attempted to flee. A routine search quickly revealed his bloody intentions, when the meat cleaver and two knives as well as a copy of the Koran were found stashed inside his backpack.

The would-be terrorist was arrested and taken for investigation. During questioning, he admitted to his part in planning a terror attack in the area. Yet the Palestinian claimed that he did not intend to commit the act himself, but was to pass on the bag and its grim contents to a third party, who had planned the ensuing bloodbath. (Read more)
Prayer Focus

Bring the Israelis living in Judea and Samaria, and the soldiers of the IDF who protect them, before the Lord as they are the common target of various terror attacks ranging from the BDS movement to vehicle ramming and stabbings. Ask God to give them peace of mind as they never know what each new day will bring. Earnestly seek His protection over each one; their going out and coming in.

- For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. (Psalm 91:11-12)

The Daily Brief

1. After Texas church massacre, tiny town turns to prayer to begin healing process - Washington Post

The sprawling white tent was already packed with hundreds of mourners Sunday, some of them spilling outside beneath an overcast sky, by the time Frank Pomeroy, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, took to the stage. He stood in front of a wooden cross wrapped in holiday lights.

In a tent erected on a baseball field a few blocks away, Pomeroy was again preaching, this time to a far larger congregation made up of victims, their family members, locals and outsiders who arrived from around the region to show their support for this tiny, heartbroken town.

"I know everyone who lost their life that day, some of which were my best friends, and my daughter," Pomeroy said, pausing to hold back tears as the crowd began to applaud and yell encouragement. "I guarantee without any shadow of a doubt they are dancing with Jesus today." (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that the strong faith of the people in the little church of Sutherland Springs, Texas, is now impacting our entire nation. Thank You for their testimonies, Abba. We continue to pledge that we will never forget these good saints, but will continue to lift them up in prayers for comfort, grace and healing. In Your name, amen.

- "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

2. Pence: 'Bureaucratic failures' led to Texas church shooting, meets with victims' relatives - Washington Times

Vice President Mike Pence, visiting the Texas church where a gunman killed 26 worshippers, said Wednesday that "bureaucratic failures" contributed to the tragedy by allowing the murderer to purchase a weapon illegally. Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican, is working on legislation that would encourage federal agencies - including military services - to put all convictions in the system. Mr. Pence said the Air Force will deliver the results of its internal investigation quickly. "Karen and I come to this place with a heavy heart," the vice president said. "Faith is stronger than evil. We are deeply moved by their faith and resilience."

Rep. Henry Cuellar, Texas Democrat whose district includes Sutherland Springs, said he met with Air Force officials Tuesday and was dismayed to learn that the military failed repeatedly to report Kelly to the federal database of criminals. "There were three different opportunities when they should have sent that information," Mr. Cuellar said. The lawmaker called Mr. Pence "very compassionate. This is a time when the people need the hugs and the kind words, because right now there's a lot of tears falling on the streets of Sutherland Springs, and it means a lot for him to be there," he told reporters. (Read more)

- Father we praise You for Vice President Pence and his compassionate caring for the people of Sutherland Springs. We also ask that You seal up the bureaucratic loophole that caused this horrific massacre, and continue to protect our leadership from harm.

- "The fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil." (Proverbs 19:23)

3. Former Fort Bragg lieutenant colonel 'armed and dangerous'- ABC affiliate

Authorities have banned a former Fort Bragg lieutenant colonel from the post who they consider potentially "armed and dangerous." Anna Heres was recently separated from the military against her will, and allegedly expressed homicidal intentions. While barred from Fort Bragg, they say she may still try to get on post, and may be driving a silver BMW with New York license plate FZK 5156.

Fort Bragg officials said a "be on the lookout" has been issued to Fort Bragg security, but the alleged threats were made to specific people at Womack Army Medical Center and were not directed towards Fort Bragg or the general public. They said they know Heres' current location and do not believe there's a threat to the general public. (Read more)

- Father, the Army says they know where this woman is, and that she is no threat to the community at large. But we know from past situations that anything can happen with people who are angry and carry ill feelings toward others. We ask that You move upon her to release forgiveness to those whom she feels have wronged her.

- "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." (Matthew 6:14)

4. Report: Green Beret Killed in Mali Discovered SEALs' Illicit Scheme - Military.com

Two Navy SEALs being investigated in the strangulation death of Army Sgt. Logan Melgar in Mali in June allegedly offered the Green Beret a cut of the military money they pocketed, but he refused, according to a report. Melgar confronted the two Navy SEALs after discovering their alleged scheme, where they reportedly took money for themselves from a fund used to pay informants, the Daily Beast reported. The two men tried to get Melgar to join the racket, but he declined the offer, the report said. Melgar later ended up dead in what appeared to be a strangulation.

Whether the SEALs were involved in the death remained unclear as the investigation continued. The commandos were initially described as "witnesses," but authorities later changed that to "persons of interest." Officials said Melgar's cause of death was "homicide by asphyxiation." (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that You come to these SEALs and bring conviction to their hearts. Greed has damaged both their service and the special Operations community. We pray for Your hand of justice, and redemption.

- "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" (1 Timothy 6:10)

5. Democrats Dragging Out Brownback Confirmation - Washington Free Beacon

Catholic leaders and human rights activists are blasting Democrats for delaying the confirmation of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback to a State Department post aimed at protecting the freedom of people around the world to practice the religion of their choice. President Donald Trump nominated Brownback to become the U.S. ambassador at large for International Religious Freedom in late July, a post which is charged with promoting religious freedom and the protection of religious minorities from persecution as key objectives to U.S. foreign policy.

The Senate Foreign Relations approved his nomination in late October, and his GOP supporters in Congress hoped it would sail through the Senate by unanimous consent. Brownback previously served in the House and Senate, where he was widely respected for his congenial nature, although he often clashed with Democrats over his strong anti-abortion stances and other socially conservative views. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that You will move on the Congress to stop playing partisan politics and allow the confirmation of Sam Brownback.

- "The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that this day is coming." (Psalm 37:12)

6. ABC, NBC, CBS Confronted with 'Alarming' Proof of Bias by House Media Fairness Caucus - CNS News

The Media Research Center-documented "depth of bias" by broadcast networks is putting the nation's very democracy at risk, the leaders of the House Media Fairness Caucus said in letters to the presidents of ABC, CBS and NBC News Thursday, rebuking their lack of coverage of the Russian Uranium One scandal. In their letter, Caucus co-chairmen Reps. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), Alex Mooney (R-WV) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) detail how "The Hillreported that Russian nuclear officials had routed millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, a role critical to the sale of Uranium One to the Russian state-controlled firm Rosatom. The House Intelligence Committee, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, opened an investigation into this deal."

"This scandal is a major national security concern, yet it has been almost ignored by the major networks. The American people deserve the facts on this alarming deal," Rep. Smith said in a statement. NBC, CBS and ABC have all failed to meet the "public interest" standard required of broadcasters, Cramer said: "The distribution of content on the public airwaves carries a 'public interest' standard, a standard abandoned by NBC, CBS and ABC long ago. At a minimum, 'public interest' ought to be reflected by the absence of bias in news coverage." (Read more)

- Lord, we have seen the bias across all mainstream media, deliberately targeting the President and skewing the news against him. We take authority over the spirits that are running this agenda and bind them tightly in the Mighty Name of Jesus!

- "Or else how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house." (Matthew 12:29)

7. House Committee to Vote Soon on Veterans Choice Legislation - Washington Free Beacon

The House Veterans Affairs Committee will soon vote on bipartisan legislation to give veterans the option to seek private-sector medical care if the Department of Veterans Affairs is unable to provide a patient with an adequate health care team. Committee chairman Rep. Phil Roe (R., Tenn.), who introduced the bill last week, told the Washington Free Beacon lawmakers will vote on the measure as soon as the Congressional Budget Office releases a cost projection for the program. The committee was initially set to vote on the legislation on Wednesday.

The bill would overhaul the Veterans Choice Program created by Congress in response to a 2014 scandal over manipulated wait times at federal facilities that led to the deaths of dozens of veterans. The program was intended to temporarily provide veterans with greater flexibility to visit care providers outside of the VA's network of health care facilities. Roe's bill would set up a permanent network of private sector providers established in each of the nearly two dozen VA regions, where veterans could seek care if the agency cannot offer it. (Read more)

- Lord we pray that this legislation will truly help veterans get the care they need. There are stories of the veteran's choice program that is currently in place still denying payment for medical care that is desperately needed.

- "But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, o My God." (Psalm 40:17)

8. Trump Administration Left Trio of Florida Lawmakers in Dark on New Cuba Rules - Washington Free Beacon

A trio of Cuban-American lawmakers representing Miami was not told in advance about long-awaited regulations restricting U.S. business and travel in Cuba, according to GOP congressional sources. The lawmakers, Sen. Marco Rubio and Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, all Florida Republicans and strong public champions of President Trump's more limited Cuba policy, suspected they were being left out of discussions or briefings on the regulations because they would wind up not being as strong as President Trump had promised them earlier this year. The State, Treasury, and Commerce Departments, which wrote the new rules, never briefed these members of Congress, and lawmakers ended up having to hear the new rules were coming out Wednesday morning from reporters, the sources told the Washington Free Beacon.

The lack of foreknowledge is a marked shift from months earlier, when the White House brought the lawmakers into the fold and they endorsed Trump's efforts to roll back some of the Obama administration's new détente with Havana at a June event in Miami's Little Havana. The trio of lawmakers issued statements late Wednesday ranging from mild disappointment to strong dissatisfaction and blaming State Department "bureaucrats" from preventing Trump from going farther. They argued the new regulations preserved too many special carve-outs for certain Cuba military-controlled hotels and existing travel plans. (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that You prevent special interests from making concessions to Communist Cuba that should not be made. Let Your will prevail over all relations with the island nation.

- "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips."
(Psalm 141:3)

9. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) Announces He's Retiring in 2018 - CNS News

One day after Democrats swept multiple races including the governorship of Virginia, Rep. Bob Goodlatte became the latest Republican to announce his retirement from Congress.

He follows Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker and numerous Republican representatives to the exit. Goodlatte (R-Va.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced on Thursday that he will not seek re-election in 2018. He outlined his reasons in a "Dear Friend" letter, saying: "After much contemplation and prayer, we decided it was the right time for me to step aside and let someone else serve the Sixth District. I will not seek re-election. With my time as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee ending in December 2018, this is a natural stepping-off point and an opportunity to begin a new chapter of my career and spend more time with my family, particularly my granddaughters." (Read more)

- Father, as all of these Republicans (some RINOS) leave Congress, we pray that ONLY Your replacements be elected.

10. Born before 22 weeks, 'most premature' baby is now thriving - KFOR

Courtney Stensrud and her husband call their fun-loving, spunky daughter a miracle. The now 3-year-old girl was born at just 21 weeks and four days after conception. "She may be the most premature known survivor to date," according to a case report about her birth published in the journal Pediatrics last week. Just after Stensrud gave birth, Dr. Kaashif Ahmad, a MEDNAX-affiliated neonatologist at the hospital and lead author of the case report, counseled her about the baby's extremely low chances of survival and initially counseled against resuscitating the baby.

Stensrud listened as she held her 15-ounce girl in her arms, with the umbilical cord still attached, she said. "Although I was listening to him, I just felt something inside of me say 'Just have hope and have faith.' It didn't matter to me that she was 21 weeks and 4 days. I didn't care," Stensrud said. "As he was talking to me, I just said 'Will you try?' And, he said he would and, three years later, we have our little miracle baby. I don't tell her story a lot but, when I do, people are amazed," she said. "If there's another woman in antepartum that is searching Google, they can find this story and they can find a little bit of hope and a little bit of faith." (Read more)

- Father, how we praise You for this precious testimony of a baby's life and a woman's faith! We believe the report of the Lord, not the reports of man.

- "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)

11. Yemen conflict: UN official warns of world's biggest famine - BBC

Yemen faces the world's largest famine in decades "with millions of victims" if aid deliveries are not resumed, a senior UN official has warned. Mark Lowcock, the UN under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs, urged the Saudi-led coalition to lift its blockade of the conflict-torn country.

On Monday, the coalition shut air, land and sea routes into Yemen after Houthi rebels fired a missile at Riyadh. The ballistic warhead was intercepted near the Saudi capital. Saudi Arabia said the blockade was needed to stop Iran sending weapons to the rebels. Iran denies arming the rebels, who have fought the Saudi-led coalition since 2015.

Earlier this week, the UN and the Red Cross warned that a "catastrophic" situation threatened millions of Yemenis who relied on life-saving aid deliveries. The Red Cross said its shipment of chlorine tablets, vital to combating a cholera epidemic which has affected more than 900,000 people, had been blocked. The UN says seven million Yemenis are on the brink of famine. The country relies on imports for virtually everything civilians need to survive, but now neither food, fuel nor medicine can get in.

More than 8,670 people - 60% of them civilians - have been killed and 49,960 injured in air strikes and fighting on the ground since the coalition intervened in Yemen's civil war in March 2015, according to the UN. (Read more)

- Father, we ask that humanitarian needs be able to pass through the "blockade." We also pray that Your Holy Spirit move among the people of Yemen, as well as all nations involved in the Saudi coalition. Only You have the ability to transcend foolish men to bring about change.

- "A violent man entices his neighbor and leads him in a way that is not good." (Proverbs 16:29)

Church security matters

Monday, November 13, 2017

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has done an expose' on church security in the wake of the Sutherland Springs, TX, massacre of 26 Christians over a week ago. According to WSJ, many pastors are struggling with reconciling the need to arm themselves or members of their congregations with a long-standing cultural norm of houses of worship being off limits to such violence. It's a new day and age, really. No longer does even the vilest of criminal respect the sanctuary of church. As WSJ reports, churches are among the softest of soft targets. It's where everybody wants to believe they are safe from terror, from murderers, from the violence of the outside world. But that's not the case in modern America.

Quite frankly, the shepherd needs to do what is best to protect the flock from bad doctrine, emotional self-indulgence, extra-biblical teachings, and yes, life-threatening intruders. Jesus said in John 10:11-15, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep."

Will your shepherd lay his life down for you? Will he do all he can to protect you? Since the immediate past "president" took office, deadly church violence has increased 281% over the previous decade. Former Focus on the Family employee Carl Chin keeps track of such violence. Chinn reports that from 1999 to 2008 there were 199 violent church deaths in the US, but from 2009 to present there have been 560. Chinn says that by the end of August, there had been more violent deaths in churches than all of last year. The newly energized leftist hate speech of progressive unbelievers has heightened church violence as those on the mental edge are prone to act on these condemnations.

These are important questions that should be considered. Your pastor should be deeply concerned and actively addressing both your spiritual and physical well-being. If not, he should be encouraged to do so. This takes into account both sound teaching and doing the very best to ensure your safety during your time on church property or in church events. Those who accept the responsibility of a flock, should be the ultimate good shepherds. They should seek the truth in all humility, abandoning doctrines of man and embracing the Holy Scriptures; protecting the flock; willing to lay down their lives for it, as the example of the Christ who spoke the truth and sacrificed his life that those who believe in him may have eternal life.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Judge Moore

Judge Moore

"15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. "(1 Peter 3:15-17)

"But he who is without sin cast the first stone." (John 8:7)

1. The Moore Mess - Gary Bauer

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is making headlines again. He has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 14 year-old girl and for making unwelcome advances toward three other young women who were between the ages of 16 and 18 at the time.

As we send this report to you, yet another woman has come forward with more disturbing accusations. She claims to be a Trump supporter, and says she is willing to testify under oath about her accusations.

Let's establish what should be obvious. Any adult man in his 30s who knowingly attempted to seduce a 14 year-old girl is unfit to hold public office. Is that what Judge Roy Moore did? He vehemently denies it. Moore's pastor of 25 years vouches for him as a man of integrity.

At the same time, I hope we can agree that no one should have their reputation unfairly destroyed by unproven, decades-old allegations.

The alleged incident happened 40 years ago. The reality becomes even murkier given the context of when and how the accusations are being made.

At this point, it is virtually impossible for men and women of goodwill without a political ax to grind to discern what the truth is. The only people who know for sure are Judge Moore and his accusers. Would an answer be for the judge to take a polygraph test? Since so many good people have defended him, I recommend he do so.

2. McConnell Says Roy Moore Should Step Aside - Newsmax

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called on Roy Moore of Alabama to drop his Republican U.S. Senate candidacy, saying he believes the women who say the former judge pursued them for dates when they were teenagers.

"I think he should step aside," McConnell told reporters Monday in his home state of Kentucky. "I believe the women, yes," the GOP leader said.

McConnell said Monday that a write-in campaign is a possibility to oppose Moore in the Dec. 12 election.

"That's an option we're looking at, whether or not there is someone who could mount a write-in campaign successfully," McConnell said. Asked if it could be Luther Strange, who lost to Moore despite McConnell's support, the majority leader said, "We'll see." (Read more)

3. Roy Moore: McConnell's the One Who Should Step Down - Newsmax

Alabama Republican Roy Moore says it's Mitch McConnell who should quit, not him.

Moore is responding to McConnell, the Senate majority leader, who says he believes Moore's accusers and thinks he should drop out of the race for Senate. At issue is a Washington Post story saying Moore had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl and pursued romantic relationships with other teenage girls decades ago.

Moore says on Twitter: "The person who should step aside is @SenateMajLdr Mitch McConnell. He has failed conservatives and must be replaced. #DrainTheSwamp." (Read more)

4. New accuser claims Roy Moore sexually assaulted her - WND

Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred represents 5th woman to come forward

Shortly after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called on Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore to withdraw from the special election in Alabama in response to allegations of sexual misconduct by four women, a fifth woman came forward Monday, represented by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred.

Allred - a Democrat known for representing women who make sexual-assault claims against prominent figures - introduced Beverly Young Nelson at a news conference in Madison, New York. Nelson alleges Moore sexually assaulted her in 1977 when she 16 and working as a waitress in a restaurant in Moore's hometown of Gadsden, Alabama. (Read more)

6. Judge Roy Moore: Establishment Republicans, Democrats, Washington Post May Have Colluded in Smear - Breitbart

MONTGOMERY, Alabama - In the third and final segment of his radio interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Friday afternoon, Judge Roy Moore-the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate in Alabama-said he believes establishment Republicans, Democrats, and the Washington Post may have worked together in the smear against him.

"I guess you've got yourself in a position here where you're a month out of an election," Hannity said to begin the third segment. "This all drops on you. You're denying everything. What do you want to tell people-and I'll just give you the microphone-about how you should view the Washington Post, these people making these charges, and your denial? How should people see it?"

Moore, who in the previous segment noted his team is investigating the matter and said he believes that there may be proof of "collusion," said next that he believes proof will emerge that establishment Republicans worked with Democrats and the media to bring forward these smears against him.

"There are going to come out facts, there will be facts, that show in this situation that this was a Democrat and maybe even establishment Republican effort to undermine this campaign, because they don't want to hear the truth in Washington and they don't want to hear the truth about God and the Constitution," Moore said. (Read more)

- Lord, these allegations have had the distinct odor of a Democrat "hit" from the beginning based on the timing of them, and the fact that the Washington Post endorsed Moore's opponent. We pray that Alabama voters will not fall for the tactic, and will listen closely to Your Spirit in the upcoming election.

Classic Hymns

PRAISE HIM, PRAISE HIM
"I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live." (Psalm 146:2)

Lyrics

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer!
Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him! hail Him! highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor give to His holy Name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
In His arms He carries them all day long:

Refrain

Praise Him! Praise Him!
Tell of His excellent greatness.
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Ever in joyful song!

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer! For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.
He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him! hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.
Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,
Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.

Refrain

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer! Heav'nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
Pow'r and glory unto the Lord belong. Refrain

Signs and Wonders

Part One: Strong quake hits Costa Rica, no reports of major damage

SAN JOSE (Reuters) - A strong 6.5 magnitude quake struck the Pacific coast of Costa Rica near its capital city San Jose on Sunday night, but there were no initial reports of injuries or significant damage to infrastructure. Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis said authorities were gathering information and asked residents to remain calm and to be prepared for any possible aftershocks.

A Reuters witness said the quake was felt very briefly in San Jose, but it was enough to startle residents.

"We're very scared. It's been years since we felt such a strong one," said Otto Vargas, a university professor in San Jose, who was home with his family when the shaking started. (Read more)

Part Two: Plague ravaging Madagascar 'could mutate and become untreatable' experts warn

A plague which is spreading rapidly in Madgascar and has killed more than 140 people could mutate and become untreatable, an expert has warned.

Ten African countries have already been put on alert for signs of the disease - and experts fear that it could spread to Western countries via plane travellers.

The disease is caused by the same microbe which wiped out 50 million people in Europe during the Black Death, but in a form that can be spread by coughing.

Most of the cases in the current outbreak are pneumonic plague, a more virulent form that spreads through coughing, sneezing or spitting and is almost always fatal if untreated.

Professor Paul Hunter of the University of East Anglia, told the Daily Star: 'If it reaches the UK, Europe or the US it would be similar to the Ebola outbreak. (Metro News UK) Read more.

Wow! Jesus Brought a Blanket to This Former Muslim Who'd Been Thrown into a Cold Jail Cell

[God Reports] A Muslim man named Hamid found Jesus through his brother's witness. When Hamid heard the Gospel, he accepted Jesus with his mind, but his heart was slow to experience the fullness of God's love.

Timid about his faith, Hamid had no desire to risk sharing his new faith with others, according to a story by Frontiers.

He and his brother began to meet with a Frontiers worker named Dennis, who helped them to grow in their understanding of Jesus.

"Dennis challenged each of the men to spend quiet time with the Lord and to listen to what He might say to them through the Word. They had never learned anything like this in Islam, and they were slow to warm up to the spiritual practice," according to Frontiers.

"For many months, Hamid and the others felt they were hearing nothing from God."

One day, Hamid sat in a park reading the Bible. Police officers spotted him and began to reprimand him, then they hauled him off to jail.

Hamid was petrified. "He felt miserable as he lay shivering on the cold, bare floor of the cell. Throughout the night, he slept fitfully," according to Frontiers.

Then something remarkable happened. He had a dream that Jesus approached him in the middle of the night, embraced him, and placed a blanket over him.

About CHPP

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
