Focus on The Election
Today we will introduce this special feature, to bring us all up to speed on the elections to be held both tomorrow and later this week -- both primaries and caucuses. Then, beginning tomorrow and continuing every day through November 8, we will feature a guide to praying for this election, to be located at the end of each edition of the Daily Brief.
Please find below this prayer request, written by Susan Turner, our One-Year Bible Scribe, for this week's election. Thank You, Susan, for this prayer. In Jesus' name, amen!
May this Tuesday, a day that man calls "Super Tuesday," be one with election results that glorify You! We ask that the next president of the United States be a man who loves You with all of his heart, mind and soul!
So many afflictions have come out of the last presidential elections. . .
May Your people come out to vote this year in the primaries, caucuses and general elections. May their voting make a difference and bring about great changes to help restore America and her people unto You, Your Law and Commandments.
May Your voice be heard! May You be remembered!
We also ask for Your Holy Spirit to please intercede for all known and unknown needs for America so that she will be able to honor and trust in You.
In Jesus' Mighty Name we ask and pray for America. Amen.
- "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." (Psalm 34:19)

Voters in the following states will vote in a primary election or a caucus this Tuesday:
Oklahoma, Vermont, Wyoming, Massachusetts, Alaska, Georgia, Colorado, Arkansas. In the State of Tennessee, only the Republicans will vote in a primary election. On Super Tuesday, 865 delegates are at stake for the Democrats, while 661 delegates are at stake for the Republicans.
In order to win their party's nomination, Democrats must have the votes of 2,283 delegates, while Republicans will need 1,237 delegates.
2. Voters Will Also Go to the Polls on 2 More Days This Week - CHPP
Next Saturday, March 5, voters will also go to the polls in five more states: Nebraska, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, and Maine. The next day (Sunday, March 6,) voters in Puerto Rico will also cast their votes.
3. Puerto Rican crisis roils 2016 race - The Hill
Puerto Rico's economic crisis could play a critical role in the race for the White House. Years of economic decline has driven hundreds of thousands of island residents to the US mainland, and is upending the political calculus on the presidential trail.
Puerto Rican residents cannot vote for the president in the general election, but can cast votes in primary contests.
The hotly contested Republican primary now has every candidate scrambling for whatever delegates they can find, leaving Puerto Rico's oft-ignored primary on March 6 a unique opportunity for a pickup. (Read more)

1. Lebanon's PM issues ultimatum over Hezbollah - Times of Israel
Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam has reportedly warned that he will resign if the powerful Hezbollah terror group does not move to repair its troubled ties with Saudi Arabia.
According to Israel's media Walla outlet, senior officials in Lebanon told the local Elnashra website that Salam intends to make good on his ultimatum as soon as possible.
Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia and the Shiite Hezbollah have been at odds over the latter's support for the Syrian regime and for Houthi rebels seeking to oust Yemen's government. It has sent fighters to Syria to help prop up embattled president Bashar Assad and, according to some reports, has also dispatched militants to Yemen. Both Hezbollah and the Houthis also receive support from Iran. (Read more)
2. Haniyeh: Nothing can stop the 'intifada' - Israel National News
Hamas's leader in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh on Friday welcomed the upcoming release of terror suspect Mohammed al-Qiq, hours after Israel agreed to release him following a 94-day hunger strike.
Speaking in Rafah, Haniyeh also vowed that the "intifada" will continue.
"Al-Qiq's victory is proof that defeating the occupation is realistic," said Haniyeh, who was quoted by Channel 2 News. (Read more)
3. Hamas official: We're not seeking a war with Israel, our tunnels are defensive - Jerusalem Post
GAZA- A senior leader of the Islamist group Hamas said the Palestinian movement was not seeking a new war with Israel and insisted a network of tunnels it is digging, some of which have reached into Israel in the past, was "defensive."
Speaking to members of the Foreign Press Association in Gaza, Mahmoud al-Zahar, a medical doctor seen by many as a hardliner, suggested the prospects of reconciliation with the rival Fatah party of President Mahmoud Abbas were slim, despite years of international efforts to forge unity.
"I think nobody here in the region is looking for a war," said Zahar, 71, who has survived two Israeli assassination attempts, one of which, in 2003, killed his son.
"We are not looking for any confrontation with Israel, but if they are going to launch an aggression we have to defend ourselves," he told reporters late on Wednesday. (Read more)
4. PA demands control over Iran cash handouts to terrorists - Times of Israel
The Palestinian Authority on Sunday said direct financial assistance by Iran to the families of Palestinian terrorists and attackers killed in a five-month wave of violence would be unacceptable, and called for such funding to be directed through a PA.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a PA presidency spokesman, was quoted in local media as saying that bypassing the Authority in handing out such funds would constitute illegal interference in internal Palestinian affairs.
Tehran announced last week assistance would be offered to families of those killed in the wave of Palestinian stabbing, car-ramming and shooting attacks that erupted in October 2015. The PA official did not reject the payments, but said such aid must follow official channels. (Read more)
5. Playground at Beit El settlement comes under sniper fire - Times of Israel
A children's playground at the West Bank settlement of Beit El was hit by sniper fire Saturday night. No one was injured in the attack.
According to Channel 10 television, the gunfire is believed to have come from the nearby Palestinian refugee camp of Jalazoun. The IDF launched a search in an effort to track down those responsible.
The incident came a day after a Palestinian teenager was shot dead as he tried to stab Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint close to the settlement. Palestinian sources later said that the youth had American citizenship, and named him as 17-year-old as Mahmoud Muhammad Shaalan, a resident of the village of Deir Daboun, north of Ramallah. 6. Egyptian MPs demand sanctions for MP who met Israeli envoy - Israel National News
A group of Egyptian parliamentarians are planning to ask to sanction one of their colleagues over his meeting with Israel's Ambassador to Egypt last week, the Al-Ahram newspaper reported Saturday.
Tawfik Okasha came under fire last week after inviting Israeli ambassador Haim Koren to dinner, where the two reportedly discussed issues pertaining to Israel and Egypt.
According to Al-Ahram, a mixture of MPs, both independent and party-allied, have tabled requests with parliament speaker Ali Abdel-Al asking that Okasha be punished for what has been termed "committing the unprecedented crime of meeting with Israel's ambassador in Egypt". (Read more)

1. Syria's onetime 'capital of the revolution' now a ghost town - CNSNews.com
HOMS, Syria (AP) - Two years after the last Syrian rebels left the besieged Old City of Homs, voices echo through the shells of bombed-out buildings, their upper floors tilted at odd angles as though frozen in time. "There is no danger here, because there isn't anybody," a soldier said as gunfire rang out in the distance. "No gunmen, not a soul, not even animals, nothing. Only concrete." He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
Some 1,200 rebels and civilians, many of them wounded and starving from a yearlong siege, withdrew from the last remaining strongholds in the ancient heart of Homs in May 2014, surrendering to President Bashar Assad a bloodstained city once dubbed the "capital of the revolution." The return of nearly all of Syria's third largest city to government control dealt a painful blow to the uprising, which began with mostly peaceful protests in March 2011 before a harsh government crackdown and an ensuing insurgency plunged the country into civil war.
At one point, rebels controlled nearly 70 percent of Homs, which had a prewar population of 1.2 million. But a government counteroffensive and heavy fighting pulverized much of the city, and the siege eventually starved the opposition out. (Read more)
Our Father who art in heaven, You know the horrors that the people of Homs, Syria have been through in the last several years. These 1.2 million people have fled their homeland and are scattered like sheep without a shepherd. Our prayer is that You will be their Shepherd and Your salvation will be their comfort. Guide them to the new homes of Your leading where they will be safe and fed not only with the food of man, but with the manna of the Holy Spirit. May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob be praised by all of these people as they begin this new season in their lives. We pray that their relationship with You will be as disciples to all they meet on their journeys. Thank You for hearing our prayers for these displaced people. Jehovah-Shalom be praised.
- "Then the Lord said to him, Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die." (Judges 6:24)
2. Guns fall silent in Syria - Reuters
Guns mostly fell silent in Syria and Russian air raids stopped on Saturday, the first day of a cessation of hostilities that the United Nations has described as the best hope for peace in five years of civil war. Under the U.S.-Russian accord accepted by President Bashar al-Assad's government and many of his foes, fighting should cease so aid can reach civilians and talks can open to end a war that has killed more than 250,000 people and made 11 million homeless.
Russia, which says it intends to continue strikes against areas held by Islamist fighters that are not covered by the truce, said it would suspend all flights over Syria for the first day to ensure no wrong targets were hit by mistake. (Read more)
- Lord it is heartbreaking to consider how the Syrian citizens have suffered while deceitful power brokers vie for position. We must continue to watch what Russia does, not what they say. We pray that You will be the true strength of this cease-fire agreement, the wall of defense for the citizens.
- Although most Syrians do not know You, we intercede on their behalf, "Awake, and rise to [their] defense! Contend for [them], My God and Lord." (Psalms 35:23)
3. Rebels, Russians report violations as Syria truce teeters - Times of Israel
Syria's main opposition grouping recorded 15 violations by government troops and allied forces on the first day of a landmark truce, a spokesman told reporters Sunday, as Russia accused Turkey of breaking the ceasefire. "There were 15 violations by the regime forces on day one of the ceasefire, including two attacks by (Lebanese militant group) Hezbollah in Zabadani" west of Damascus, said Salem al-Meslet, spokesman for the High Negotiations Committee. Opposition monitoring groups reported earlier Sunday that warplanes had carried out air raids on two villages in northern Syria. (Read more)
- Lord, another 'landmark truce' broken. We recognize and are tired of these charades with neither side proving trustworthy. Thus we commit these men and nations into Your hands. We place our expectations in You for You alone are faithful.
- "Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does." (Psalms 145:13)
4. Senior UN Official Who Sent US Computers to North Korea 'Told Me That He Didn't Care What the US Thought . . . Didn't Have to Obey US Laws' - CNSNews.com
The head of a U.N. agency which gets a significant proportion of its budget from U.S. patent applicants transferred U.S.-origin computer equipment with dual-use potential to North Korea, and cracked down harshly on whistleblowers who sought to expose his behavior, U.S. lawmakers were told Wednesday. Despite the alleged actions and lawmakers' earlier appeals, the Obama administration allowed Francis Gurry to be re-elected in 2014 for a new six-year term as director-general of the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a joint hearing of three House Foreign Affairs subcommittees heard.
The administration did so, a witness told the hearing, at the request of a close ally, Australia; Gurry, whose career at WIPO spans more than three decades, is believed to be the highest-ranking Australian in the U.N. system.
In one of the more startling disclosures, a witness reported on claims that Gurry sent high-end IT equipment to North Korea in return for its vote of support for his election. (Read more)
- Father God, it is clear that Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO, seems to have no respect for this request by the United States. His decision to send U.S.- origin computer equipment with dual-use potential to North Korea will endanger our nation. Lord, You can scramble all of this equipment so that its data is jibberish and unusable. For the safety of the U.S. we ask You to take out this equipment NOW. We ask this in Your name. Amen.
- "Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth." (Genesis 11:9)
5. Pacific Commander: China Heading Toward Operational, Tactical Control of Major U.S. Trade Route - CNSNews.com
If China continues to arm all of the bases they've reclaimed in the South China Sea . . . they will change the operational landscape in the region," Admiral Harry Harris, head of U.S. Pacific Command, told a news conference on Thursday. "And short of war with the United States, they can become -- they can rise to the level of having operational control, tactical control of the waterways and airways in the South China Sea, which today, involves about $5.3 trillion of trade, over a billion of which -- over a trillion of which is destined for the United States.
"There are enormous I.T. infrastructure in the . . . undersea cables in the South China Sea. It's a principle shipping lane, as we've discussed. And I think that, again, short of war with the United States, China will exercise de facto control of the South China Sea, if they are -- if they continue to outfit the bases that they've reclaimed there."
Harris said China, in the past few years, has reclaimed almost 3,000 acres of land from the South China Sea, turning many of the islands into military bases. . . "So, that is what has changed. The United States and our patrols -- military patrols, air and maritime in the South China Sea haven't really changed. We have a consistent presence in the Western Pacific, and we have had that for decades. So, I would say it's China that has changed its behavior." (Read more)
- Father God, You created the seas and they are Yours. Let there be peace in the oceans and the land in the South China Sea region. We ask You to watch over all of our military patrols who are on duty in that area of the world. We pray they will be on alert and fervent for the tasks for which you have chosen for each person. We pray over the I.T. infrastructure and its financial impact on the U.S. We ask Your guidance to rest upon those who are making decisions regarding U.S. policy towards China in this region, and we do this in Your name, amen and amen.
- "Nebuchadnezzar the king, To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you." (Daniel 4:1)
6. The Great Wall of Europe: Hungary splits continent in two with huge fence to stop migrants - The Express UK
Hungary is set to build another huge border fence to keep out migrants. No-nonsense prime minister Viktor Orban today announced plans to construct an enormous 280-mile long razor wire barrier which will completely seal his country off from southern Europe. The fence will join up with those currently deployed along Hungary's borders with Serbia and Croatia to create an impregnable barrier to migrants headed north towards Germany and Scandinavia.
Mr Orban has styled himself as a defender of Christian Europe, repeatedly ignoring pleas from European Union (EU) bureaucrats to open up his country's borders to millions of migrants. (Read more)
- Lord, we see the plight of migrants looking for a safe-haven, and yet countries are unable to handle this vast influx of people. Clearly the solution is beyond the reach of mere human counsel. Oh that leaders would humble themselves, seek Your face and cry out to You for wisdom.
- "Counsel and sound wisdom are Mine; I am understanding; I have strength." (Proverbs 8:14)
7. National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Says Members Must Affirm Gender, Biological Sex in New Statement of Faith - Christian Post
The National Religious Broadcasters affirmed traditional marriage and condemned any sexual act outside that union, including pornography and homosexuality, in a new version of their Statement of Faith adopted Tuesday.
"NRB believes that sexual acts outside marriage are prohibited because they are sinful. Consequently, NRB members must resist and refrain from any and all sexual acts outside marriage - including but not limited to adultery, fornication, incest, zoophilia, pornography, prostitution, voyeurism, pedophilia, exhibitionism, sodomy, polygamy, polyamory, sologamy, or same-sex sexual acts," notes the NRB, a non-partisan international association of committed broadcasters and Christian communicators in the new statement of faith shared with The Christian Post Wednesday.
Highlighting Scripture as the guide for the amendments made to the organization's statement of faith, the NRB notes that the changes are required to give clarity in the current political-legal landscape. All NRB members, employees, and volunteers must "affirm and adhere to this Doctrinal and Religious Absolute statement on marriage and human sexuality to qualify for involvement with ministry," the organization says in the document. (Read more)
- Father, we welcome this revised version of the NRB's Statement of Faith, and we agree with its tents. As an Associate Member of the NRB, CHPP's own president will adhere to this policy statement in all of our future publications. Praise the Lord!
- "Praise the Lord!" (Psalm 149:9)
8. Shocked Kansas Leaders Ask for Prayer After Massacre at Small Town Factory - KAKE News
(Hesston, KS) - Kansas leaders - in shock over a horrific killing spree at Excel Industries yesterday by an employee, which left 3 dead and scores wounded, are asking for prayer.
"Please send your thoughts and prayers to the people of Hesston," tweeted Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, who also ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff in memory of the victims and their families.
Tweets from other leaders, saying they are praying for the victims' families include US Senator Pat Roberts and Congressmen Mike Pompeo, Kevin Yoder and Lynn Jenkins. (Read more)
- Father, we join our dear friend, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, and others who have called for a time of mourning and of healing for this small the citizens of this small Kansas community. May each one be comforted by Your tender mercies. We ask this in Your name, amen and amen.
- "There is a time for all things . . ." (Eccl. 3:1)
9. Clinton sweeps South Carolina primary as 'Super Tuesday' looms
Hillary Clinton defeated Bernie Sanders in a landslide in the Democratic primary in South Carolina, projections showed, seizing momentum ahead of the most important day of the nomination race: next week's "Super Tuesday" showdown. (Read more)
- Father God, as members of both of our political parties continue to go to the polls to help their candidates gain support in the general election, we thank You that, as we ask, You will answer and show us whom to choose. We repent of the habit of voting for "so and so" because we think he (or she) has the greatest chance of getting elected. Lord, this reasoning is following the wisdom of man. Instead, Lord, we turn our hearts to You to govern this choice for us, for we know that, against all human odds, nothing is too difficult for You, if we but trust in Your wisdom to guide us along the way. In Your name we pray, amen.
- "These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him."
(I John 2:26,27)
10. Arguments in Supreme Court abortion case pitched to audience of one - Washington Post
The Supreme Court's most important abortion case in decades, being heard on Wednesday, is pitched to an audience of one.
Justice Antonin Scalia's unexpected death complicates the impact of the court's eventual decision. But if the challengers are able to convince Kennedy that the Texas law goes too far, it would have national implications. States have passed more than 250 restrictions on abortion in the past five years.
The case remains "monumental," said Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), which is leading the legal challenge.
Texas argues that its 2013 law was a logical response to the shocking indictment of Philadelphia abortion provider Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted that year of first-degree murder in the deaths of three infants born alive and involuntary manslaughter in the death of a woman undergoing the procedure in his under- regulated clinic.
The state's restrictions were meant to ensure the safety of women undergoing the procedure, Texas told the Supreme Court, and fit within Kennedy's opinion in Casey that "states may regulate abortion, so long as the regulations have a rational basis and do not have the purpose or effect of creating a substantial obstacle to abortion access." (Read more)
- Father, we pray that this Supreme Court will, indeed, uphold the state's restrictions regarding abortion clinics, so that the horrors of the Gosnell case not be seen again in Texas or, over time, anywhere else in the nation. We ask that You move upon the heart of Justice Anthony Kennedy, the traditional "swing vote" on this Court, to swing in the direction of protecting women. We ask this in Your name, amen and amen.
- "I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city." (Isaiah 1:26)

A Republic or a Communist state--you will decide
South Carolina Democrats overwhelmingly chose criminal communist Hillary Clinton over lightweight communist Bernie Sanders, setting the stage for the Democratic presidential nomination. If a host of law enforcement agencies do not indict Clinton for exposing top secret information to America's enemies, Clinton will be the leader of the Democrats. Donald Trump may well be the leader of the Republicans, which has thrown the "establishment" Republicans into a nervous breakdown. Already, we are hearing that the establishment GOP will try to mount an independent effort against Trump. Establishment Republicans and many embroiled in this season of politics seem to be forgetting the possible outcome.
Now before you hit the "unsubscribe" button (which many have every time I write about this Presidential race), please understand what is at stake. This nation will continue toward communism at a swift pace if Hillary Clinton is elected. She will likely have two Supreme Court appointments and that means the words that once meant something in the Constitution will be changed to a leftist interpretation for generations to come. There will be no stopping attacks on freedom of speech, religion, the right to bear arms, or a multitudes of other freedoms. If the Republican establishment runs an independent candidate or encourages a non-vote or write-in for a candidate that is not the nominee, the GOP also will be supporting this drive toward communism.
The current "president" has exercised enormous power to change the dynamics of the nation. There was virtually no Republican opposition. Yes, they sometimes voted to attempt to prevent the "president's" Marxist Islamic agenda, but mounted no leadership to reflect public opinion. The GOP elected officials by and large paid a lot of lip service to their constituents, but in the end, compromised to the point of allowing the "president" and his party their way. This is the "establishment" Republican Party that many are, quite frankly, fed up with. They were the same ilk that fought against Ronald Reagan when he ran for President. They don't like challenges to their authority. They think like Democrats.
This election is in the hands of an angry electorate who believes that the country club establishment of Democrats and Republicans in Washington, DC, are not listening and are running the country into the ground. That's why an admitted socialist (acceptable word for communist) and a billionaire pragmatist who rubs people the wrong way are energizing the electorate. The Republican Party has lost its way. The Democratic Party has been hijacked by Marxists. They are all trying to keep control of the mess they have created. That means conning voters into one belief or another. We have a choice in this election. It may not be the ideal choice, but it will determine whether we remain a Republic or slide into communism. As Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Your freedom of religion depends on it.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Report: Tens of Thousands of Christians Killed,
Churches Destroyed in Nigeria Since 2000
Nigeria is a country torn in two. While Southern Nigeria is economically stable and enjoys relative peace, Northern Nigeria is rattled by continuing targeted attacks of violent groups, social and economic insecurity and ethno-religious conflicts between various groups. Especially Christians living in these areas have been bearing the brunt of this violence and insecurity. Northern Nigeria hosts a substantial Christian population in the area where Islam meets Christianity. With an estimated thirty million adherents in the Northern region, it is the largest minority in a mainly Muslim environment. This environment has become ever more hostile in recent decades, leading to growing marginalization and discrimination, as well as widespread attacks on Christians, especially in the last fifteen years (World Watch Monitor) Read more.

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:
SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER
"Pray continually." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Lyrics
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father's throne Make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, My soul has often found relief And oft escaped the tempter's snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! The joys I feel, the bliss I share, Of those whose anxious spirits burn With strong desires for thy return! With such I hasten to the place Where God my Savior shows His face, And gladly take my station there, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless. And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I'll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! May I thy consolation share, Till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height, I view my home and take my flight: This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise To seize the everlasting prize; And shout, while passing through the air, "Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

The asteroid of 'uncertain orbit' that REALLY could smash into Earth, according to NASA
Paul Chodas, manager of NASA's Center for Near Earth Orbit Studies said: "This asteroid's orbit is quite uncertain, and it will be hard to predict where to look for it.
"There is a chance that the asteroid will be picked up by our asteroid search telescopes when it safely flies past us next month, providing us with data to more precisely define its orbit around the sun."
NASA can also not be certain about the object missing us on a later pass in 2017.
