The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29)

". . . the glory of the LORD filled the temple. . ." (2 Chronicles 5:14)

The Daily Brief

1. Americans Killed at Synagogue Include Grandson of Prominent Boston Rabbi, Kansas City Native - ABC News

Three Americans were among four killed in a brutal synagogue attack in Jerusalem today -- including a Kansas City-born rabbi and the grandson of a prominent American Jewish leader. Two Palestinians armed with knives and a gun ran into the synagogue and attacked worshipers during morning prayers. The Americans were all dual American-Israeli citizens, according to The Associated Press. The fourth victim was a British national, according to the Israeli government. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for the families of these who have been assassinated. We ask for Your mercy and grace for them. Let Your peace be in Jerusalem. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. "May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces." For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, "May peace be within you. "For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good." (Psalm 122:6-9)

2. IRS Agents Can Pose as Clergy to Spy on Churches - Charisma News

New York Times front-page story shared that IRS rules allow that "an undercover employee or cooperating private individual may pose as an attorney, physician, clergyman or member of the news media." The New York Times also goes on to state that the IRS allows much more "latitude" than other federal agencies in gathering information.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states: "It is troubling and an outrage that members of the IRS can pose as members of the clergy to gather information for the government. The First Amendment and the foundational principles of religious freedom that have long been embraced and honored by our nation are being trampled by these rules. (Read more)

- Lord, We ask that You give wisdom to our federal security agencies, so that, when they operate undercover, they do not overstep our freedoms, but protect the freedoms of the people of the USA. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

3. Ferguson-Area Cop's Ominous Warning on What's Coming: 'I'm Serious, Get a Gun' - The Blaze

If you do not have a gun, get one and get one soon. We will not be able to protect you or your family," he wrote. "It will be your responsibility to protect them. Our gutless commanders and politicians have neutered us. I'm serious, get a gun, get more than one, and keep one with you at all times." (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for peace to rest upon Ferguson, Missouri. Lord, the grand jury's announcement may cause rioting. Lord, we are asking for a snow storm in Ferguson so that everybody stays home until tempers are cooled. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "Out of the south comes the storm, And out of the north the cold."
(Job 37:9)

4. Iraqi Forces Enter Baiji Oil Refinery After Months-Long Clashes With ISIS: Reports - IB Times

Following months-long clashes between Iraqi security forces and militants of the Islamic State group, government forces entered the Baiji oil refinery on Tuesday, according to local media reports. The two sides have been fighting over control of the refinery, which is Iraq's largest, since June, when ISIS took control of the town of Baiji, about 130 miles north of Baghdad. "The first Iraqi force, the anti-terrorism force called Mosul Battalion, entered Baiji refinery for the first time in five months," Iraqi police colonel Saleh Jaber told Reuters.

If confirmed, the advance would come just days after Iraqi forces, backed by U.S.-led airstrikes, recaptured large parts of the town that had been under ISIS control since June. Last week, General Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi, commander of the provincial security operations, had claimed that Baiji had been "completely liberated," according to local media reports.(Read more)

- Lord, We give You thanksgiving and praise for this victory. We pray that the Iraqi Forces backed by USA-led airstrikes will be able to hold onto this city and be able to move on to Tikrit and Mosul. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "But he took his stand in the midst of the plot, defended it and struck the Philistines; and the LORD brought about a great victory." (II Samuel 23:12)

5. Iranian Cleric Threatens US, Israel With 'Missile Attack' - Newsmax

A prominent Iranian religious leader threatened the United States and Israel with missile attacks just as U.S. officials and other diplomats were preparing for last-minute talks with Iran over its suspected nuclear-weapons program. The bombastic Friday sermon by Ayatollah Ali Movahedi-Kermani further inflamed tensions surrounding the talks aimed at meeting a Nov. 24 deadline for a deal to stop Iran from enriching uranium in exchange of the removal of crippling economic sanctions. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You that Iran is showing its true colors. We pray that You continue to expose Iran, and that the USA will not sign any treaty with them nor withdraw any sanctions. In His Name, we pray, Amen.

- "But if you truly obey His voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries." (Exodus 23:22)

6. ISIS to annex more Arab lands into caliphate - WND

ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is still very much alive after premature reports of his death, announcing that a number of provinces in Arab countries have declared their loyalty to his Islamic caliphate. Sources say the new annexations will only create a more complex threat environment for the U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition.

Baghdadi's rare public announcement is the first time there has been any official acknowledgement of such annexations since ISIS, also known as the Islamic State, took over parts of Syria and Iraq some six months ago and declared the creation of a caliphate. (Read more)

- Abba! We thank You for exposing those who have joined ISIS so that we can monitor them. You are Lord of all and we praise You. We thank You that the weapons that we have are mighty. We thank You the battle is Yours! We await the defeat of ISIS and give You all the glory. In His Name, Amen.

- ". . . and that all this assembly may know that the LORD does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the LORD'S and He will give you into our hands."
(I Samuel 17:47)

For the first time in decades, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the deployment of checkpoints at the entrance to East Jerusalem's Arab neighborhoods.

5. Foreign Ministry: Spanish Resolution Distances Peace - Israel National News

Spanish lawmakers' decision to call on the government to recognize a Palestinian state will distance peace and not bring it closer, officials in the Israeli Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday night.

"When the Palestinians are permitted to understand, albeit mistakenly, that they can achieve anything they want without a return to negotiations and without the required compromises, all that is achieved in practice is the further postponement of the Palestinian return to the negotiating table," the officials said, according to the website of the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

"There is a serious mistake here in conflict resolution when you make it more difficult to achieve something rather than contributing to it and promoting a solution," they added. (Read more)

6. Syria blocked Beirut from peace talks with Israel - Lebanese lawmaker says - Jerusalem Post

A top Lebanese official told the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in The Hague on Monday that Syria had blocked Lebanon from engaging in peace talks with Israel.

Marwan Hamade, a Lebanese parliament member, former minister, and close ally of assassinated Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri, made the statement in testifying against Hariri's alleged assassins.

Speaking alternately in English and Arabic, Hamade explained that, as part of trying to take over Lebanese foreign policy and governance, Syria "forbade" Lebanon to negotiate with Israel "before Syria was done" negotiating with Israel. (Read more)

7. Live blog November 19: Aftermath of Har Nof Synagogue Attack - Times of Israel

The fifth victim of Tuesday's Jerusalem synagogue terror attack, Druze policeman Zidan Saif, died of his wounds late Tuesday, having been shot in the gunfight that ended the Har Nof synagogue assault. The four Jewish victims were laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon. Condemnation over the attack, in which the two terrorists used a gun, ax and meat cleaver to attack worshipers before the police arrived and killed them, poured in from Israeli and international leaders, including Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. But Abbas was blamed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for inciting terrorism against Israel. Late Tuesday, Netanyahu demanded global denunciation of Palestinian terrorism and incitement, vowed that Israel would "settle scores" with the terrorists, and issued a call for national unity. The Times of Israel is liveblogging continuing developments overnight and into Wednesday. Tuesday's liveblog is here. (Go here)

8. Report: Netanyahu told Jordan's king to take reins at Temple Mount - Times of Israel

PM said Abdullah and Waqf needed to take a larger role in preventing disturbances, while king called for MKs to end visits to holy site, according to new details of Amman talks.

During the Thursday meeting, attended by Netanyahu and US Secretary of State John Kerry, Jordan's King Abdullah II expressed dissatisfaction regarding the Jewish Knesset members who had visited the Temple Mount in recent weeks, telling Netanyahu that their presence was inconsistent with the prime minister's public assurances of maintaining the status quo of the compound, known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif.

In response, Netanyahu reportedly told the king he was unable to restrict the movements of MKs, according to news site NRG.

Abdullah, however did acknowledge President Reuven Rivlin and Netanyahu's recent requests that right-wing MKs refrain from visiting the contested holy site, and noted the decline in such visits over the last week, the Hebrew daily reported. (Read more)

AIPAC Statement on Terrorist Attacks

Palestinian Incitement Spurs Terrorist Attacks

Palestinian terrorists today murdered four Israelis as they prayed at a Jerusalem synagogue. The attack followed months in which Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian leaders used vitriolic language to inflame tensions, especially over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The Palestinian leadership must cease these provocations and work to de-escalate current tensions.

Never give up

A longstanding Daily Jot reader wrote recently expressing in just a few sincere words what many feel on a daily basis. He wrote: "I pray daily concerning the state of our Country and world, I write my congressman and senator encouraging them to stand for the constitution and on Godly principles. I also share the truth of the Gospel and on what's really going on in our Country and in government with others, but I feel so helpless. I mean, I don't feel like I'm putting a dent in what's going on. Help!" I have been writing The Daily Jot for nearly 13 years. The state of the world has steadily declined and will continue to do so. Christians, take heart. We are to overcome evil with good and not grow weary in doing it.

Every phone call you make. Every letter you write. Every email you send. Every word you speak. Be encouraged. The Lord said in Isaiah 55:10-12, "For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not thither, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands."

Neither be offended. The Lord says in Ezekiel 3:17-19, "When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and you give him not warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul." No matter how long, no matter how difficult things become, do what the Lord tells you to do. As you do these things unto the Lord, you have made a transfer, so to speak, from yourself to others. It is now on them to act responsibly with the information. You have done your part.

God sent his only begotten Son to die on the cross for our sins that we might have life everlasting. It's up to us to share the many facets of living out our salvation. 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 exhorts: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body." Keep going. Keep doing. You never know when your action may be that last full measure needed to advance God's plan. Never give up.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

"God is Love?" Muslim's Astonishing Testimony of Accepting Christ as His Savior

"...I couldn't believe it. I had never received love from God. I was a slave of God. In my wildest imagination, I couldn't believe God is love." -Kamran

A video on YouTube may have many around the world seeking an answer to the question, "Who is this Jesus Christ of Nazareth?"

In the video, a former Muslim man named "Kamran" who studied Islam intensely for over a decade, describes a set of events that led him to accept Jesus as his Savior.

Kamran explains that he always had a deep love for God, but after 10-12 years he hit a wall after feeling [he] could never get close to Him.

Then, one day he was in a hotel in Cypress and he saw a Bible sitting on a table. A staff member at the hotel noticed his curiosity and offered the Bible to Kamran. Shocked that he'd been given it, he went to his room and began searching it.

Freeze affecting all 50 states - even Hawaii

Record cold arctic air for mid-November has set off a major lake-effect snowstorm across the Great Lakes snowbelts, affecting western and central New York, northwest Pennsylvania, northern Ohio, northern and western Michigan, and far northern Wisconsin.

Up to 51 inches of snow has already fallen in western New York, and up to 2 feet has fallen in far northern Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan. By the time all is said and done, parts of western and Upstate New York could be buried in almost 6 feet of new snow.
