The Daily Brief

1. BREAKING NEWS: Court Reinstates most Texas Abortion Restrictions - Fox News

A federal appeals court has issued a ruling reinstating most of Texas' tough new abortion restrictions.

More on this story:

~Father, we thank You for this very good news! We do ask for a preservation of individual states' rights, as spelled out in our Constitution. We pray for all those affected by this ruling, and rejoice in the fact that lives will be saved, and the "shedding of innocent blood" will be diminished. May it continue, we pray, Amen.

-"Light in a messenger's eyes brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones." (Proverbs 15:30)

2. Obama's Justice Department Argues Before Supremes: International Treaties Trump Constitution

The Justice Department is going before the Supreme Court and arguing that the Obama administration has the authority to trump the Constitution with international treaties. Texas Senator Ted Cruz is stepping up to the plate to fight this globalist broadside.

~Abba, we ask that You would intervene in this administration's efforts to nullify our Constitution, and set up a global government. This nation was founded on Your principles, and it is to be "of the people, by the people, and for the people" of this nation. We ask that these efforts to deny us these freedoms will come to naught. In your Name we pray, Amen.

-"because he despised the oath by breaking the covenant to which he had sworn allegiance; having done all these things, he will not escape unpunished." (Ezekiel 17:18)

3. Top Hospitals Opt Out of Obamacare - U.S. News and Reports

Americans who sign up for insurance on the state exchanges may not have access to the nation's top hospitals, Watchdog.org reports.

~Lord, we again ask for an exposing of these facts before the nation, so people will know what choices they have available to them. Shine Your light on the facts, and make them known we pray, for Your glory. Amen!

- "Our God! Won't You execute judgment against them? For we haven't strength enough to defeat this huge horde coming against us, and we don't know what to do, but our eyes are on You." (2 Chronicles 20:12)

4. Senate intel committee approves NSA snooping, with restrictions - Washington Times

The Senate intelligence committee voted Thursday to officially affirm the NSA's ability to collect records of Americans' telephone calls, but imposes new restrictions on federal authorities who want to sift through the data.

~Abba, we thank You there are new restrictions on federal authorities who wish to sift through personal information of the general public. We ask wisdom for all of us in protecting our privacy, not for any subversive purpose, but just because it is our God-given and government-given right. Amen.

- "Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you could want is equal to it. With her right hand wisdom offers you a long life, and with her left hand she gives you riches and honor. Wisdom will make your life pleasant, and will bring you peace." (Proverbs 3:15-17)

5. Senate GOP blocks key Obama judge, signals renewed fight over court nominees - Washington Times

Senate Republicans on Thursday filibustered one of President Obama's nominees to sit on the federal appeals court in Washington, arguing that while the woman is well-qualified, confirming her would allow Democrats to shift the political balance to the left on the country's second-most important court.

~Father, we thank You that this nomination has been blocked - at least temporarily. We do ask for a balanced court that will abide by the laws of this nation, and support our Constitution as it is written, and not endeavor to re-write it for any particular political purpose, we pray, Amen.

- "The balance and scales of justice have their origin in Adonai; all the weights in the bag are His doing." (Proverbs 16:11)

6. Historian surprised Obama skipping Gettysburg event - World Net Daily

President Barack Obama will not attend next month's event marking the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address in Pennsylvania, national park officials said. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will instead represent the administration the Nov. 19 sesquicentennial, officials at Gettysburg National Military Park said Wednesday.

~Abba, we are disappointed to hear that our President, who says he admires President Lincoln, would not attend this very special 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address given by President Lincoln at the dedication of the National Military Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pa. What an honor, and how appropriate it would be for our nation's first black President to honor President Lincoln, who tirelessly worked to bring about freedom for the slaves and equality for all races and peoples. We ask that the occasion will be blessed by You, we pray, Amen.

- "Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor is due." (Romans 13:7)

7. BREAKING: Gunman in LAX shooting wounded, in custody, 3 injured, officials say - Fox News

The gunman in a shooting Friday at Los Angeles International Airport was wounded and taken into custody after prompting authorities to evacuate a terminal and stop flights headed for the city from taking off from other airports, officials say. (Read more)

- We offer praise to the LORD that no one was killed in this incident, and that the injuries seem to be non-life threatening. As we type this report, however, airline schedules across the nation have been severely impacted, as flights to LAX have been delayed. Ask our Lord to restore order in this chaos quickly, and to grace our citizens with peace and calm during this disruption. Amen.

- "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (Matthew 21:22)

("Think about this.") May we each heed the signs in the heavens that portend the soon return of our Lord. Amen.

- "There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven." (Luke 21:11)

Authorities in Malaysia Begin Censoring Christian Newspaper - Asia News

A controversial ruling by the Court of Appeal is now being felt. In view of the court's decision banning the use of 'Allah' as the word for the Christian God, Malaysia's Home Ministry seized, 2,000 copies of the Herald, at Kota Kinabalu Airport, Sabah State. The Catholic weekly is published by the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

Ministry officials said that the court's ruling meant that they have to verify pre-emptively whether the weekly complied with its order or used "unlawfully the word Allah".

In an official statement on its Facebook page announcing the action, the Home Ministry noted that "the inspection found no unlawful use" of the word "in the publication." For this reason, it released the copies for distribution on "27 October 2013".

Asked about the situation, the Herald's editor Fr Lawrence Andrew said that the Home Ministry did not give him any official explanation. What is more, however swiftly they carried out checks at Kota Kinabalu Airport, the seizure effectively "prevented the weekly's distribution" in time for last Sunday's Mass among Catholic parishes in Sabah.

Indeed, the decision to release the paper came only after Mgr Murphy Pakiam, archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, and Wilfred Madius Tangau, a lawmaker with the ruling party (Barisan Nasional), personally intervened in the matter.

It should be noted that Sabah (where the distribution of the weekly was stopped) is on the island of Borneo along with Sarawak. The two states are home to two thirds of Malaysia' Christians, and are very different from mainland Malaysia.

In this part of the country, the use of Allah has never been controversial. Christians have used it without any problems, living in relative harmony and closeness with members of other religions, often within the same family. For the past 14 years, the Catholic weekly has done the same.

The Daily Jot

The War Against You

The US government was set up to serve the people. But now the government not only is served by the people, the politicians running it are conducting a war against us. Think about it. They are running the debt beyond recovery. Your portion of the national debt is now reported at over a million dollars. The economy is so bad that many people have given up hope of a job and have gone on the government dole. Over 47 million people, or nearly 20% of the US population, is now on food stamps. You can't drive your car in a populated area or make a phone call without the government knowing about it. Homeland Security is purchasing 240,000 pepper spray projectiles for riot control. Who is the enemy?

The Founding Fathers worst nightmare is coming true. They believed that an overreaching government would naturally seek to control the freedoms of its people. That's why they put checks and balances into the system. But one of the problems with representative government is that it only works when the citizenship is engaged. John Adams, Founding Father and second US President, said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." The religion he was speaking of is Christianity. Aside from Judaism, other religions are incompatible with a republican form of government. They tend toward despotism of varying degrees.

This precept was part of the very fabric of America as far back as the 1600s when the Pilgrims came here to escape religious persecution at the hands of the Church of England. Pastor of the Pilgrims John Robinson wrote in a farewell letter to those leaving on the Mayflower: "Lastly, whereas you are become a body politic, using amongst yourselves civil government, and are not furnished with any persons of special eminency above the rest, to be chose by you into office of government; let your wisdom and godliness appear, not only in choosing such persons as do entirely love and will promote the common good...not beholding in them the ordinariness of their persons, but God's ordinance for your good."
This letter from Robinson was credited as inspiration for the Mayflower Compact, which was instrumental in shaping the Founders view on self government. Moreover, Exodus 18:21 influenced the Founders in devising our representative form of government: "Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens." The common thread here is the morality and character of leadership. When the "church" abrogates its responsibility in making disciples, one result is bad leadership. This war against you will continue until the House of the Lord stands agin it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Commentary: TIMES ARE CHANGING

TIMES ARE CHANGING

Since the Revolutionary War Virginia has been the titular home of America's Armed Forces which brings to the state myriad Defense Contractors, their representatives and thousands of defense related jobs. The Pentagon is located in Virginia as is the huge Navy Yard at Norfolk and countless Army and Air Force installations are scattered throughout the state.

All these installations are manned by military personnel and most of them have families living in Virginia. It can be said that as goes America's Armed Forces, so goes military spending in Virginia as well as the spending at military and military support facilities all across the nation.

When the nation's Defense budget is large those working at the bases and military facilities are flush with money, and all the little and big stores and local businesses enjoy the good life. If the Defense budget is cut in Virginia you can be sure Defense spending is reduced nationwide.
But this depends on who is sitting in the White House as Commander-in-Chief. For the last five years the actions of the President and the Democrat Party have been directed toward weakening and shrinking the size of America's armed forces. In the words of the old folk song, "The times they are a changing."
. . . The Pentagon doesn't have enough money to recruit, train and support the nation's military, but federal departments like the Department of Homeland Security have more than enough money to create, outfit and equip their own civilian armies, from scratch. Civilian pseudo-armies have sprung up in many of the federal government's non-military departments and agencies. We don't have enough money to keep our military trained and ready for deployment, but we have enough money to create civilian pseudo-armies that do not report to the Congress or to the Pentagon.
For what purpose are these civilian armies being created? It can't be to deploy them overseas to fight alongside our armed forces in wars like the one in Afghanistan; we have contractors who do that. No, these civilian armed forces are meant to fight within the continental limits of the United States. . .
As best I can determine, the White House has fired more high ranking generals and admirals in the last two years than in the past fifty years combined. The cause of their retirement is less than clear. The Pentagon suggests that perhaps they may have been involved in improper relationships, whatever that means, or they have been too openly critical of Administration policy. This is code for their refusing to be "Yes" men. . .
Now is the time for senior admirals and generals to stand up, speak up for the troops they lead and tell Congress and the President in no uncertain terms that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines in the middle east are not being properly trained, equipped and led, especially in places like Benghazi and Afghanistan.
Their Politically Correct rules of engagement are wrong. They should be allowed to blow away any foreign soldier who even looks like he's about to fire on American troops or on our allies. If a mistake is made and an innocent is killed, as best as is possible restitution should be made. But there should be no second guessing of our soldier's actions.
Our senior generals and admirals would do well to remember the words of German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemoeller when speaking of the NAZIs. "First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out . . Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."
MAJ. GEN. Jerry R. Curry, US Army, Ret.

Tracking the Polls

Obama Hits New Low

As more and more Americans confront the reality of Obamacare, Obama is taking a hit too. The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds Obama's approval rating has fallen five points in two weeks and hit a record low in that poll of just 42%.

A number of liberal reporters were in the dumps this morning due to the poor results for Obama. They tried to console themselves by pointing out that Obama was still more popular than Congress. But the poll also found that Democrats generally are taking a hit too.

Two weeks ago, during the height of the government shutdown debate, Democrats enjoyed an eight-point lead when asked which party Americans preferred to control Congress after next year's elections. Now, their lead is down to just four points -- meaning it is essentially tied when you consider that the poll gives Democrats a nine-point sampling advantage!

There was more bad news for the Democrats. By a 24-point margin, respondents said it was better for different parties to control the White House and Congress in order to "prevent either from going too far." Obama can't be voted out next year and Americans clearly do not want to give him any more power. The best way to prevent Obama from going too far will be for voters to defeat more Democrats!

There was another question in the poll that deserves mentioning. Only 34% of Americans thought the economy would be worse off next year. Yet 70% said the country was "on the wrong track." What explains the gap?

I think it is everything else that Americans are experiencing: growing moral decline, abortion on demand, same-sex marriage, a shrinking middle class and a growing sense that our liberty is in danger. I hope the Republican Party is paying attention.

The economy is certainly an important issue, but a single-issue campaign focused exclusively on the economy failed to win last year and will fail in the future.
