The Daily Brief

1. Russia warns U.S. not to repeat in Syria past mistakes in region - Reuters

Russia warned the United States on Sunday against repeating past mistakes, saying that any unilateral military action in Syria would undermine efforts for peace and have a devastating impact on the security situation in the Middle East.

- Lord, we do pray that the U.S. leaders would make the right decision about Syria. May Your will be done in Syria. Guide our leaders out of darkness and the shadow of death, into Your light and into the way of peace we pray. In the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

- To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:79)

2. Report: UK's Cameron pressing Obama for strike on Syria - Jerusalem Post

British Prime Minister David Cameron has allegedly been pressuring US President Barack Obama to launch a prompt military strike on Syria in response to its supposed chemical weapons attack last Wednesday, The Times of London reported Monday.

- Lord, may the leaders of both countries have godly counsel. Let clarity and truth come forth on the situation in Syria. We pray for good advice as to making war. May the Holy Spirit's advice be given and received. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war. (Proverbs 20:18)

3. Obama: GOP threat to shut down government 'not an economic plan' - NBC News

President Barack Obama said Friday that Republican threats to shut down the government over his health care law don't amount to an economic plan.

- Lord, our President needs the spirit of the Lord. Your spirit gives wisdom and understanding. He needs Your spirit of counsel and might, Your spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. Open him to the spirit of the Lord we pray. Our health and well being are in Your hands. We pray also for the leaders who are trying to do something about this health care law. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. (Isaiah 11:2)

4. Sales of New U.S. Homes Fell More Than Forecast in July - Bloomberg

Purchases of new U.S. homes plunged 13.4 percent in July, the most in more than three years, raising concern higher mortgage rates will slow the real-estate rebound.

- Lord, we pray for a spirit of repentance to rise in this country, as we know unrighteousness has brought much devastation to our homes and the wealth of our country. We pray for Your intervention in these homes and our economy that they may flourish again. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. (Proverbs 14:11)

5. As Worries Over the Power Grid Rise, a Drill Will Simulate a Knockout Blow - NY Times

The electric grid, as government and private experts describe it, is the glass jaw of American industry. If an adversary lands a knockout blow, they fear, it could black out vast areas of the continent for weeks; interrupt supplies of water, gasoline, diesel fuel and fresh food; shut down communications; and create disruptions of a scale that was only hinted at by Hurricane Sandy and the attacks of Sept. 11.

- Lord, we pray for mercy and the protection of the power grid. Our greater prayer is for the salvation of souls - an awakening - and whatever it takes to accomplish that. Strengthen Your people to stand, and be lights in whatever is to come. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put in under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)l

6. Pat Buchanan: U.S. has been 'de-Christianized' - Washington Times

The United States has lost one of its core guiding lights - its Judeo-Christian focus - said one conservative pundit, reflecting on the tragic and senseless shooting death of an Australian man in Oklahoma on a baseball scholarship, whose life was allegedly snipped by three self-proclaimed bored teens. (Read more)

- Abba Father, this killing was reported around the world and it reflects just how far this nation has fallen from Your ways! The spirits of lawlessness, hatred and racial division are on the rise and are destroying so many lives, including the young people involved in the criminal actions. Have mercy Lord, and redeem all who will come to You. Move aside the leaders who are silent and give tacit 'approval' of these violent actions. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen and Amen.

- "The violence of the wicked will destroy them, because they refuse to do justice." (Proverbs 21:7)

7. Churches changing bylaws after gay marriage ruling - AP

Worried they could be sued by gay couples, some churches are changing their bylaws to reflect their view that the Bible allows only marriage between one man and one woman. Although there have been lawsuits against wedding industry businesses that refuse to serve gay couples, attorneys promoting the bylaw changes say they don't know of any lawsuits against churches. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, these churches are trying to protect their functions to be in line with Your heavenly laws. Only time will tell if these revisions will protect them in this era of militant hostility against Your ways. Guide and direct all of Your own how to pray and continue to walk in Your ways in this time of growing darkness. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen and Amen.

- "But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God." (1 Corinthians 11:3)

8. REPORT: Obama Is Considering A Limited Two-Day Strike On Syrian Military Targets - Business Insider

President Obama is considering a strike on Syrian military targets involving sea-launched cruise missiles or possibly long-range bombers that would last no more than two days, according to senior administration officials and reported by Karen DeYoung and Anne Gearan of The Washington Post. Reuters reports that the West has told the opposition to expect a strike "within days."

The limited strike would seemingly be a response to allegations that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its own people before dawn on August 21. Hundreds were killed and thousands suffered "neurotoxic symptoms."

The design of the potential attack implies sending a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad without becoming entrenched in the 29-month conflict . . . (Read more here.)

- Father, we pray wisdom for these considerations of a strike on Syrian military targets. We know action must be taken, so we intercede for the right plan. In Jesus name.

- And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. (Matthew 24:6-7)

Iran Rejects American Pastor Saeed Abedini's Appeal and Affirms Eight Year Prison Sentence

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which defends human rights and religious freedom, said an appeals court in Tehran has rejected the appeal of American Pastor Saeed Abedini, a U.S. citizen, and refused to reduce his eight year prison sentence. Speaking in an ACLJ news release, Abedini's wife Naghmeh called the decision "devastating."

The ACLJ said it is now exploring all legal and governmental options available.

"While we remained hopeful that Iran would use its own appeal process to finally show respect for Pastor Saeed's basic human rights, again Iran has demonstrated an utter disregard for the fundamentals of human rights," said Jordan Sekulow, executive director of the ACLJ, (which represents Abedini's wife and their two children) speaking in the news release.

Sekulow continued, "We are exploring all options with Pastor Saeed's family, including options in this country and abroad to bring more pressure on Iran from the U.S. and other countries around the world."

Deceiving and being deceived

The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:12, 13 that in the last days, "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Jesus warned in his Matthew 24 explanation of the end times, "Take heed that no man deceive you." There is tremendous deception at the highest levels of leadership worldwide and American leadership is at the center of this deception. The president is using deception to advance his passion to do the bidding of the Muslim Brotherhood in establishing a worldwide Islamic Caliphate in direct opposition to the US Constitution and the word of God. Do not be deceived.

The president is rattling the saber to rush into Syria. He is trying to sell the American public and the world on the idea that the Syrian people are being mass murdered by their terrorist leader who is a vassal puppet of Iran. This is the very same page taken from the president's Libya playbook, where he claimed the Libyan people were threatened by their dictator Muammar Qadhafi in March 2011. Yet Qadhafi claimed that al Qaeda was behind the rebellion in Libya. Indeed, he was correct. It was the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda that was ginning up the rebellion and the White House was their key supporter. It is the very same in Syria--the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda are the opposition to the Syrian regime.

While the president is trying for the second time this year to pin chemical weapons use on the Syrian regime, there are indicators that cast doubt on the story. Just as in April, the White House, parroting the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda narrative, tried to justify military support of the "rebels" using a claim of chemical weapons use. That claim was debunked when it was concluded that the sarin gas used was not military grade and was likely used by the very people the occupant wants to support. There is enough evidence that the current claim of chemical weapons use in Syria was also not military grade as reported by the Finnish Institute for Verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Further, there is a story written by The Daily Star claiming that at least four Hezbollah fighters were receiving treatment in Beirut after coming "into contact with chemical agents while searching a group of rebel tunnels in Damascus over the weekend." Hezbollah is a terrorist arm of Iran and has been fighting as an ally along side the Syrian military against the White House-supported al Qaeda and other rebel factions. It would make little sense for the Syrian government to gas its own fighters while trying to kill its own people. It is consistent with the president's mode of operation to have the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda kill the Syrian people and try to blame it on the Syrian government. Libya is an example. Do not be deceived--both sides are doing evil. It is a sad statement that America is even involved.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

The Regional Implications of a U.S. Strike on Syria

Analysis: The Regional Implications of a U.S. Strike on Syria

by Yaakov Lappin
Special to IPT News
August 27, 2013

At the time of this writing, the United States appears to be making final preparations for a military strike on Syria in response to a chemical massacre perpetrated by the Assad regime against hundreds of civilians living in rebel-held suburbs of Damascus.

U.S.-led military action in Syria would represent a shift in the willingness by the Washington-led bloc of the international community to confront Bashar al-Assad's regime, though the planned strikes are highly unlikely to topple it.

Instead, it is reasonable to expect a painful slap to the regime, to serve as a punishment and a deterrent against future use of weapons of mass destruction.

A failure by the international community to respond to last week's atrocities would be interpreted by the Iran-led Shi'ite axis - of which Syria is a central part - as a green light for further WMD attacks.

That would be a highly dangerous development, due to the increasingly radical and erratic actions of Syria, and its willingness to use unconventional weapons.

Furthermore, Iran, which sees Syria as a strategic forward province, is helping to orchestrate Assad's war, and would be encouraged by Western inaction to continue sponsoring and arming terrorists all over the Middle East, while developing its nuclear program.

Military action will send an important message of deterrence to Assad's backers in Tehran, as well as to Hizballah in Lebanon, whose fighters have helped keep the Syrian regime alive.

In recent days, Syrian and Iranian officials have issued a series of threats designed to deter a punitive strike, asserting, for example, a U.S. attack will create "a ball of fire that would burn not only Syria but the whole Middle East." One Syrian spokesman claimed Israel would be the "first victim" of a U.S. attack on Syria, and that Israel will "come under fire" in the event of a strike. Such statements have been routinely issued by Iran and Syria in the past.

Although they can't be entirely dismissed, these threats stand little chance of materializing. Any direct Syrian retribution attack on Israel will jeopardize the Assad regime's very existence.

In light of the fact that Assad is likely to survive an American military move, it would make no sense for him to take a step that will all but ensure his demise by provoking an Israeli response.

Nevertheless, in the Middle East, irrational steps can never be ruled out.

Second Resource: Jerry Golden: Don't Believe Their Lies

All we are hearing on the News is how Obama must send troops and enforce a no fly zone in Syria to stop Assad from using chemical weapons. The truth is Assad did not use chemical weapons on innocent civilians as it is being reported. He would be crazy to do that, and the area where these weapons were supposedly (if in fact they were used) is in a part of Damascus not under the control of Assad, and if you look more closely at the videos coming out they just don't look like the results of chemical deaths.

The truth is the so-called Rebels (Islamic terrorists) will do anything to bring the US and Israel into the fight if they can direct them against Assad. Their goal is to take over Syria like the Muslim Brotherhood did in Egypt. The terrorists can depend on Obama who always comes to the aid of the Islamic extremists.

At the same time this chemical attack was reported to have taken place al-Qaida sent 4 rockets into northern Israel trying to draw Israel into the fight. But that didn't work and all they got was a return serve from Israel in like manner into the terrorist area where the rockets were fired from. Israel has good intelligence coming out of Syria and will not be fooled by the terrorists.

Another thing that has become more transparent is the control of the major mainstream media who like Obama are doing all they can to deceive the general public world-wide. It would be hard for me to believe for a moment that they don't know the truth - but instead of truth they have an agenda.

Here in Israel it is obvious to those who have eyes to see what Obama and Kerry are trying to do. To say it simply; they want to bring about the destruction of Israel and they know a two-state solution will do just that. We also feel in our spirits that something big is happening and we will not like it. But more important than all the seeing and feeling is that we know God is with us, that He will bring the Jews back to Israel. That His Prophetic Word will come to pass. Obama or the Devil himself can't stop or even slow down the Word of God. (Read more here.)

Third Resource: Intelligence insider: Syria, World War III & the hidden objective

By Doug Hagman
Reported on Canada Free Press

World War III will begin in Syria, and no one on the planet (and Americans in particular) will be left untouched by what is about to take place. This has been planned for some time, and we are now seeing it happen right in front of us." Those are the words of a trusted source with deep ties to the intelligence community, before providing more insight into what we might expect as this 'crisis' escalates and "Syria explodes."

As I wrote in that article published on October 8, 2012, "All that is needed now is for a dutiful media to present one image, a video, or some other proof that Assad or someone else is using, or has their hands on, unconventional weapons. This will provide the necessary pretext for the U.S. and NATO, to intervene and ramp up the war against Assad. The UN will assist, and the red line will then have been crossed." That will be the trigger event for U.S. involvement, and the escalation into a global conflict.

We are now at that critical moment . . . (Read more)

The Good News Corner: Two Reports!

The Good News Corner:
1. God's Hand at Work in North Korea

By Jeremy Reynalds
Senior Correspondent for ASSIST News Service

NAPIER, NEW ZEALAND (ANS) -- It began on a flight to Moscow.

Owen holds up his shofar in Pyongyang While enroute to attend a conference with a contingent of Asian Market Place ministers, Owen Pomana, 42, an indigenous Maori from New Zealand, had a vision of a colored flag. The star stood out. When Pomana asked God what the star represented, he saw the letters NK.

One of the businessmen flying with Pomana was from South Korea, and Pomana shared the vision with him. It was then that Pomana said he had a strong feeling he was supposed to fly to North Korea to share God's Word and sound the shofar (trumpet) there.

Pomana's friend thought it would be important for him to go to North Korea, so they prayed and committed the matter to the Lord.

However, a number of issues needed to fall into place for the trip to happen. Pomana said he wanted a scriptural confirmation, the right timing and the provision of the necessary finances. . . If God wanted Pomana in North Korea, the funds would have to be available in three weeks. That August tour date was the last one for the year.

Pomana said he had a real concern for imprisoned American Kenneth Bae, given a 15 year prison term, and that his going to North Korea could possibly make a difference for Bae in the spiritual realm. He said he felt the importance of him going on the tour was vital, because Bae had been locked up for a number of months, had lost a significant amount of weight and was quite sick.

Pomana said he received the confirmations for which he had been looking, a major one being that the necessary funds arrived within three weeks. However, Pomana said, he continued to pray and meditate about his pending upcoming trip, as he wanted to make sure it was God's Will.

Pomana knew he had to believe that the North Korean authorities would not do an Internet search on him, because they would find numerous references to his Christian activities, including his comments about and concern for Bae.

Pomana's attention was drawn to John 13: 15. "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."

Pomana said Bae had laid down his life for his friends and for his King, and was now separated from his wife and family. God was sending in a watchman "with the sound of the trumpet" (shofar), to affect the spiritual atmosphere over North Korea.

Pomana's next challenge would be to get an Israeli shofar into China. He knew he would be faced with X-ray machines.

Pomana said God told him he needed to obtain a "bio security" certificate for the shofar, and change its description to a musical instrument. At what he felt was God's leading, Pomana also had the shofar carved with indigenous patterns so it appeared to have originated in New Zealand.

With his expenses paid and his visa in hand, Pomana set out on the first leg of his North Korean adventure

Read more, including how Pomana "recorded possibly the first ever sounding of the shofar from Israel in the DPRK." by going here. [This site includes photos and videos of Pomana's ministry inside the DPRK. Praise the Lord for this GOOD report!}

Pomana said he now wants to share his experiences with as many people as possible, and actively pursue Bae's release in whatever way God allows.

2. Russian Hotels to Have a Bible in Every Room

By Dan Wooding
Founder of ASSIST Ministries

With so much bad news coming out of Russia these days, it is surprising (and encouraging) to learn that this month, Russian hotels are to have Bibles in every room.

According to Teresa Neumann of Breaking Christian News (http://breakingchristiannews.com), the first 6,000 copies of the New Testament and Psalms were installed this month in rooms of Izmailovo, one of the largest hotels in Moscow. Neumann, quoting from a story in The Christian Telegraph (www.christiantelegraph.com), said, "Russia has joined with the Christian tradition in putting Bibles in hotel rooms. "The move is supported by the government's Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management Department."

Dimitriy Pershin, the chairman of the Commission with the Diocesan Missionary Council of Moscow, said, "Actually, in every European hotel, guests can find Bibles in the rooms. The Gospel is a book that has become the foundation of European culture. It is an essential feature of the respectful and hospitable attitude towards the guests, as well as an indicator of the cultural level of the owners of hotels."
. . . Having once smuggled Bibles into Russia during the dark days of Communism, I never dreamed that I would ever see the day when the Word of God would be freely available in the hotels in Russia. How things have changed. (Dan Wooding)

Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call

Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call

Devotional for Day 22:

27 August 2013

Submitted by:

Lynne Bartholomew, Southampton Vineyard Church, United Kingdom

www.southamptonvineyard.org

Intention:

In the beginning God made the heavens, the earth and people. He made everything beautiful. He was and is delighted with what he has made.

Scripture:

"A voice crying in the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low, the uneven ground shall become level and the rough places a plain. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed." (Isaiah 40:3-5 NRSV)

Reflection:

When God created the world His intention was clear. It was to be filled with people who would tend and care for the glorious diversity of nature. Humbly and willingly serving our Maker in this way all would live in peace with Him and each other.

How far we have strayed. Made so beautiful in His image we have torn down His forests, tainted His refreshing atmosphere and polluted His seas and rivers. Yet all this pales into insignificance at what has happened to our souls and minds. The dirt of this fallen world has filled the hearts of His people, blinding us to His will, causing greed, corruption and selfishness. Instead of beauty we see injustice, poverty, slavery, and lawlessness. The grace and joy of life is stained with the grime of our sin.

Yet He loves us with an unending, caring devotion. The LORD has not given up on this world or its people and neither should we. What He began in creation He will bring to completion. He longs to forgive, renew our hearts and minds and bring us into his will. How joyful He will be when we are all working together to bring into being the kingdom that was His original intention for the world.
Prayer:

Mighty and wonderful God, we have fallen so far and failed so pitifully. Forgive us we pray about the part we have played in allowing this beautiful world to sink so low. Forgive us for the unborn lives lost through abortion, the pure lives crippled by abuse, the honest lives warped by corruption, the healthy lives ruined by drugs. Forgive us for the poverty, starvation, death and decay we see all around us. May we become instrumental in bringing renewal to the world. We ask this, oh Lord not because we are good, but because you are faithful. Amen.
