The Daily Brief

1. Critics question IRS initiative targeting small businesses - Fox News

Small business owners across the country are receiving letters from the IRS questioning if they are reporting all of their cash income, in a new push by the agency some are saying could unnecessarily create fear in the small business community. The Wall Street Journal reports the initiative is an attempt to respond to what the agency feels is a widespread failure by small businesses to report all their cash sales. (Read more)

- Lord, on top of the changes and costs imposed by this new health care law , small business owners are being further pressured by a government agency that most citizens fear, due to its power to damage and destroy. Father, it appears like small businesses are being 'targeted' and with so many jobs on the line, the impact of this law can only be negative. We bind and rebuke this spirit of darkness being used to inspire fear and intimidation, in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "Do they not go astray who devise evil? But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good." (Proverbs 14:22)

2. 'Just Go Ahead and Defy the IRS': Rep. King Fires Up Conservative Conference, Stands with Non-Profits - The Blaze

In a stirring address, King told the audience that "when we lean across our backyard fence, or when you step up to the pulpit or when you sit in the pew, when you profess the things that we believe in, and you're a 501(c)3 and you're afraid of the IRS, just go ahead and defy the IRS on that. "I'll stand there with you. If we can't preach the word in America, where can we preach it?" (Read more)

- Father God, we ask for Your wisdom for those of us who have sought the "blessing" of the tax-exempt status of a 501 (c) 3, tax-exempt designation, so that our supporters might receive that tax benefit each year. Now, it seems that this blessing may be turning into a curse . . . We thank You for Rep. Peter King and many others in authority who will defend the rights of nonprofit organizations and ministries to help their donors, even while carrying out their own missions. May the voices of the righteous now ROAR across this nation, demanding justice for the faithful. We ask this prayer in Jesus' Name, amen.

- "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1)

3. Obama outlines proposals for reining in NSA surveillance - LATimes

President Obama proposed significant new limits on the power of intelligence agencies to secretly collect vast amounts of information on Americans, responding to weeks of controversy with steps he said were designed to "ensure that the American people can trust that our efforts are in line with our interests and our values." The proposals include measures to ensure that the government no longer will be the only side represented before the secret court that approves intelligence surveillance. They mark the first results of an intense debate within the administration about how to address the public unease over domestic spying that began with disclosures from former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, according to this report, we do not know if it means some data will be not collected and prior data removed, or if this is just meant to appease the public but truly does not change anything. Father, we ask You to shine Your light into all that is going on here and cause all lies and deceptions to be exposed so that most will understand what is happening. Confront the people involved as to their evilness Lord, saving them if they will accept it but move all the deceivers aside. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen and Amen.

- "A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape." (Proverbs 19:5)

4. Obama warns disabled veterans prolonged sequester could put their benefits in jeopardy - Fox News

President Obama took his case for ending the sequester to hundreds of disabled veterans Saturday, saying he protected their benefits from the "reckless" cuts to the federal budget but suggesting next year might be different . . . "But I want to tell you going forward the best way to protect the VA care you have earned is to get rid of this sequester altogether." (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we come against the spirit of intimidation and bullying that is causing our disabled veterans to be threatened by Obama's remarks. Father, we know there are other projects where this money could be cut rather than these benefits that are so critically needed by those who have sacrificed so much already. We ask You to confront the dark spirits involved in these 'threats' and shut them down; and we ask for Your wisdom for the members of Congress as they work to write our national budget for next year. We offer this prayer in Jesus' Name, amen and amen.

- "A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a man of wicked intentions is hated." (Proverbs 14:17)

5. Obama administration backs prayer at local government meetings - LA Times

The Obama administration and congressional Republicans have found something to agree on: Town councils should be allowed to open their meetings with a Christian prayer. Lawyers for the administration and two groups of lawmakers from the House and Senate, nearly all Republicans, separately made that argument in briefs to the Supreme Court this week. The high court should relax the constitutional limits on religious invocations at government meetings, they argued. The case could lead to a major change in the law on religion that would go well beyond prayers at council meetings.

Last year, a federal appeals court ruled that the town of Greece, N.Y., near Rochester, had crossed the line and violated the 1st Amendment's ban on an "establishment of religion." For years, the town supervisor had invited a local minister to deliver an opening prayer at the council's monthly meeting. Members of the audience were encouraged to join in the prayers.

Two residents, one Jewish and one an atheist, had complained for several years that the prayers were offensive and inappropriate. Until they sued in 2008, only Christians had been invited to lead the prayers. Looked at through the eyes of a "reasonable observer," the town's prayer policy "must be viewed as an endorsement of . . . a Christian viewpoint," the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals said in ruling against the town. (Read more)

- Abba Father, we ask You to grant great discernment and wisdom to those in authority who will now be allowed to grant prayer at local government meetings. Shari'a law is moving quietly across our land, and utterances to allah bring curses to the nation. We again ask Your wisdom, discretion, discernment, and strength for those leaders who desire to see the restoration of the Judeo-Christian foundation in our land. Let us, as a free people, vote into office only those of like mind. We ask this in Your Mighty Name, amen.

- "A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape." (Proverbs 19:5)

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"You shall increase my greatness, And comfort me on every side."
(Psalm 71:21)

Azerbaijan--Pastor's Wife Passes Away

Pastor Zaur, who leads a small Baptist church in Aliabad, lost his wife, Nunuka, on July 21 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Zaur Blaev and his congregation have been continually harassed by the local imam and authorities. In 2007, Pastor Zaur was arrested during a raid on a worship service in his home, and he spent nearly a year in a prison camp before being released.
More recently, while Zaur was in Russia seeking treatment for his wife, his church was again raided and issued a large fine.
Nunuka continued to struggle through surgeries and treatment, but on Sunday morning, July 21, she told Zaur, "I'm going to heaven, to be near God, so you don't need to worry about me. Please continue to serve God." Please pray that God will continue to comfort and sustain Pastor Zaur.

The Daily Jot

Prophetic Youth--Small indicator of a larger problem

CBS News in New York is reporting that a growing number of restaurants in the US are banning children in prime time hours because of their bad behavior. One restaurant owner in Houston, Tx., said that he started banning children under 8 years of age after 7 pm because his customers complained about loud children. The CBS reporter observed: "When a baby cries, or a kid-sized meltdown is served up with a restaurant meal, it can be a recipe for stress for other patrons." She quoted a diner saying, "I've seen them yelling and screaming, and throwing themselves on the floor and walking up to other people's plates." Trends like these could be a small indicator of a larger problem.

It is marking the rise of the "nones." The "nones," says the Barna Group, are youngsters who claim no faith or say they are unaffiliated with any belief system. Barna says the term rose to prominence when a Pew Research poll found that the number of Americans who are religiously unaffiliated rose to almost 20%-a nearly 5% leap in just the last five years. A Gallup poll shows similar numbers, and a March 2013 poll from UC-Berkley and Duke University also found religious affiliation in the US is at its lowest point since it began to be tracked. One common thread in every survey has been the significant number of "Nones." The Pew survey found that 32% of 18-29 year olds have no religious affiliation."

Barna reports that those 18- to 29-year-olds, once identified closely with faith and the church, have since begun to wrestle with that identity. Between high school and turning 30, 43% of these once-active Millennials drop out of regular church attendance-some eight million "twenty-somethings" have, for various reasons, given up on church or Christianity. Some 59% of Millennials with a Christian background have, at some point, dropped out of going to church after having gone regularly, and half have been significantly frustrated by their faith. Additionally, more than 50% of 18-29 year olds with a Christian background say they are less active in church compared to when they were 15.
So why are kids under 8 being banned from restaurants a small indicator of a bigger problem? The parent-church partnership is reaping what it is sowing--an increasing number of parents are not raising their children with Biblical principles; the church is not relevant enough to keep them. Jesus prophesied that families may be divided over him. In Luke 12:53, he says, "The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law." America's children are becoming a prophetic generation, but not in the way the Church intended.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

IRS STILL Targeting The Tea Party

IRS STILL Targeting The Tea Party

This will get your blood boiling, friends. Testifying last week before the House Ways and Means Committee, an IRS agent admitted that the agency is still targeting Tea Party groups for additional scrutiny.

What is going on at the IRS? This scandal broke months ago and dominated the headlines. One acting IRS commissioner was "fired." Lois Lerner is pleading the Fifth and has been suspended. Another top director has been placed on administrative leave. Acting IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel emphatically told reporters six weeks ago that he had stopped the practice of targeting Tea Party, Christian and other conservative groups.

But the agent's testimony is clear. Consider these excerpts from a transcript released by the House Ways and Means Committee:

Committee: If you saw -- I am asking this currently, if today if a Tea Party case, a group -- a case from a Tea Party group came in to your desk, you reviewed the file and there was no evidence of political activity, would you potentially approve that case? Is that something you would do?

IRS agent: At this point I would send it to secondary screening, political advocacy.

Committee: So you would treat a Tea Party group as a political advocacy case even if there was no evidence of political activity on the application. Is that right?

IRS agent: Based on my current manager's direction, uh-huh.

This is clearly well beyond just a few rogue agents. We seem to be dealing with an entire rogue agency! (Gary Bauer)

An Opinion: My Brother, My Enemy

My Brother, My Enemy

By Chuck Baldwin
August 8, 2013

. . . Think about what happened in Germany during the rise of the Third Reich. The vast majority of Christian pastors and churchmen turned against their freedom-loving brethren in the Confessing Church and helped Hitler's henchmen and stormtroopers to persecute, imprison, and even murder fellow followers of Christ. The historical record indicates that 95% of the pastors and churches of Germany supported Hitler and openly opposed Christian freedomists such as Martin Niemoller and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Niemoller and hundreds of others wound up fleeing Germany, while Bonhoeffer and hundreds of others were executed by the Reich.

How is it that so many professing Christians can be so blind to the divine principles of liberty? How is it that they can be so quick to turn against their brethren who choose to stand and fight for those divine principles of liberty? I believe the answer is because, 1) they are truly ignorant of the divine principles of liberty, and/or, 2) they are statists at heart.

. . . Ladies and gentlemen, the chasm between freedomists and statists is widening. It is pitting brother against brother; husband against wife; father against son; mother against daughter; friend against friend; and Christian against Christian. In much the same way that the great struggles for liberty have divided brethren in the past, so, too, it is happening today. And the chasm is only going to widen further in the months and years to come.

And mark this down: as the chasm widens, there will be no room for neutrality. Everyone, and I mean everyone, will have to pick a side. We either believe and understand the divine principles of liberty and are ready and willing to fight and defend those principles, or we support the tyrant's position that the state stands in the place of God and must be obeyed at all costs.

This is why it is so important for Christians to leave these churches that promote the damnable doctrine of unlimited submission to the state; and I mean right now. Pastors who continue to preach this fallacious doctrine of unlimited submission to the state are facilitating the destruction of liberty in America. They are helping to put shackles around the necks of our children and grandchildren.

I realize that there are many sincere Christians out there who believe that all their pastor and church must do is preach the Gospel, win souls, etc., and America will be healed. They are sincerely mistaken. . .

Over these past 60 years, we have seen more Gospel preaching, more Gospel literature, more Christian colleges, universities and seminaries, more Christian TV and radio ministries, more youth retreats, couples retreats, marriage retreats, Sunday Schools, missions organizations, evangelism programs, ad infinitum, than at any time in church history. And, while many of these institutions and organizations will differ on the nuances of secondary doctrine, for the most part, they have shown fidelity to the Great Commission. With all of this Christian witness, one would think that we would be in the Millennium by now (and, yes, I realize that some Christians think we are). So, why is America teetering on the brink of despotism?

During this same period of time, America has plummeted morally, socially, culturally, politically, and, yes, spiritually. Why? The "salt" has lost its savour and is being cast out, and trodden under foot of men. (Matt. 5:13) Christian pastors and churches are no longer fighting against the decay and decomposition of our country--including against that political and spiritual bacteria that are eating away at the fundamental principles of liberty upon which America was built. As a result, our nation's freedoms are being systematically and rapidly expunged.

For all intents and purposes, freedom and liberty are entering a modern-day Dark Ages. And just as in the ancient days of Middle Eastern and European persecutions and inquisitions, those Christians who stand for liberty today are being ostracized, marginalized, and demonized--by their own brethren. More and more, the same man who is my brother is also my enemy.

Another Opinion: Weak Kings

An Opinion: Weak Kings

By Pastor Faye Higbee

Post Falls, Idaho

Let's discuss Joan of Arc. Her high intelligence and prowess led to her becoming the first and only woman to ever be the Supreme Commander of the armies of a nation at the young age of seventeen. She fought long and hard against their enemies and was fiercely loyal to a weak king. She gave him her all. Never once deciding that Dauphin was unfit for the office of king, she fought on with courage and strength. She fought heavily behind enemy lines. But in the end, she was captured. It was ultimately the king's failure to ransom her from the enemy that caused her to be burned at the stake. She was a courageous young woman with gifts beyond her years. Her life was cut short while fighting for her nation, a nation that was run by a fool who didn't care about much of anyone but himself.

America was born in rebellion. Our first leaders had foresight and wisdom, based upon Judeo-Christian values and thoughts. They cared about their armies, and their people. They were decidedly NOT weak. They knew the stakes, they fought the fight. And they won.
Over the centuries, American leaders have run the gamut between strong and powerful, and weak. But at no time have we had a leadership as weak as the one we have today. They rule by subterfuge, intimidation, and deception. Their minions follow them blindly without forethought. If you think they are strong, you are mistaken, because evil is foolish. They not only make scandals, they are personally so wrapped up in themselves that they could care less about the people. They do not serve us, they serve themselves. When leadership does that, people die.
We can chose to blindly follow these leaders, or we can stand up and and say NO. We can choose to let America be destroyed by their actions, or we can ask for Divine Guidance and believe that we can prevail. I have seen many people on some of the social networks either stick their heads in the sand and pretend all is well, or they sound like they will give up. Personally, I will not give up. This is MY country. Is it yours? Will you jump of the cliff for these leaders who do not care about you? Or will you say no way?

The Good News Corner:

Victim Michelle Knight Watches Ariel Castro's "House of Horrors" Razed

"Dear Lord, give the missing people strength and power to know they are loved, we hear their cries, they are never forgotten in my heart. They are caterpillars waiting to be turned into butterflies. -Prayer of Michelle Knight, at the razing of "House of Horrors"

(Cleveland, OH)-Multiple sources report that Michelle Knight, one of the three girls Ariel Castro kidnapped and tortured in his basement for nearly a decade, showed up in person to witness the razing of Castro's "House of Horrors."
Knight, who is said to be committed to raising awareness for abducted children, reportedly brought with her yellow balloons which she distributed to people in the crowd who had gathered to watch the demolition.

"I want the people out there to know," said Knight, during her public prayer, "including the mothers, that they can have strength, they can have hope, and their child will come back."

Also present was Peggy Arida, the aunt of Georgina DeJesus, one of Castro's other captives. In a powerfully symbolic gesture, she was allowed to use the excavator to make the first "hit" on the house.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty said, "For ten years this house was a secret prison of a psychopath, but after today it will be gone. He's [Castro] going to sit in the bowels of prison now the rest of his life, the rest of his days, in fear of himself and other prisoners." (Breaking Christian News) Read more.

Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call

Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call

Devotional for Day 7:
12 August 2013

Ian Shelton, Coordinator of One Heart for the Nation, Australia

www.oneheart.com.au

Intention:

The unity of the church is the Lord's means for reaching the world and saving souls, and as such this should be the priority of every Christian and especially every leader.

Scripture:

(Father) I pray that (Christians) will all be ONE just as You and I are . . . so that the world will believe You sent Me (John 17:21 NLT).

. . . that (Christians) may become ONE and PERFECTLY UNITED, that the world may know... (John 17:23 AMP).

Reflection:

According to the Bible, unity is a necessity for soul-winning. The division and brokenness of the Church in most communities diminishes God's glory, and at best, is seen negatively by most non-Christians. Christians should be able to love one another.

Imagine if pastors and congregations in each community began to seek the welfare of other pastors and congregations above their own. Imagine if pastors and congregations worked together to bring healing to the brokenness of their community.

The average community is unravelling, which manifests in the breakdown of marriages, youth delinquency, drugs, suicide and much more. Our modern communities are full of relational pain. However, only too often many Christians themselves are victims of society's brokenness-including pastors and leaders. Humble pastors and leaders need to begin the journey, through prayer, to bring healing to one another and to the Church of the community.
Only a healed, unified Church is able to heal a broken, divided community. There is something very impacting in seeing dozens of pastors who love one another testifying how they and their families have been strengthened by the love they have received from one another.

As this relational unity grows to touch, heal and impact the congregation members, the love of Christ cannot help overflowing to needy souls all around them.

Christ's prayer is for unity of the Church in order to reach the world. Soul-winners will always be the greatest advocate for the unity of the Church. The greatest prayer of the Bible is the high-priestly prayer of Jesus in John 17, and as such should be our priority prayer because it is our obedience to love one another that provides the answer to the prayer.

Prayer:

Father, teach us to pray in unison with Your Son that we, the Church, may be completed and perfected in unity in each community in our nation. Forgive us for our disunity and division, for our neglect of each other's needs, for the critical words and attitudes against each other. Cleanse us from this proud spirit that elevates myself, my ministry and my congregation above the needs of other Christians in other congregations. Father, fill us afresh with the loving heart of sacrificial service that unites and heals the Church and overflows to needy communities. Amen.
