in the Will of God . . .
over the Issues of the Day

(Isaiah 55:11)

"His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed, And His dominion will be forever." (Daniel 6:26)
> > > We will suspend publication of the Israel Report this weekend, as we await news out of Syria. Watch for a possible special report, if so.

Monday is Labor Day, so we will also stand down then, too. The next Daily Brief will be posted next Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Finally, Congress reconvenes next week; please be in prayer for your own member of Congress and for the two senators from your state, as they prepare their hearts to return to Capitol Hill on Tuesday. Thank you.

The Daily Brief

1. US Ramps Up Case for Military Response to Syria - Voice of America

The United States continues its campaign to persuade its citizens and the world to back a military response to allegations that Syria has used chemical weapons against civilians. Secretary of State John Kerry is . . . spoke on the evidence against Syria. And the government is expected to release an unclassified report on that evidence following meetings with President Barack Obama and his advisers. Obama faces a tough fight to build support for what is expected to be a limited military attack against the Damascus government.

- Father, we ask You to intervene in the affairs of man concerning our President's desire to attack Syria. We pray that You would reveal the secrets concerning use of chemical weapons in that country, and make them known. May cooler heads prevail. We know that such action could put U.S. and Israeli citizens at risk of terrorist attacks on our own soil. We ask for a "sound mind" to weigh in these decisions, and protect Your people world-wide, we pray. Amen.

- "The time is near when all things will end. So think clearly and control yourselves, so you will be able to pray." (I Peter 4:7)

2. Fifth American destroyer heads to Mediterranean in build-up of possible Syria strike - Jerusalem Post

A few hours after reports surfaced that Russia sent two missile ships into the Mediterranean Sea due to the Syria crisis, the US sent another destroyer, their fifth so far, towards the center of the build-up and probably increases the possibility of an attack on Syria. According to an American security source quoted in the Daily Star, "the US is expected to make the 'Stout' destroyer available for an imminent attack against Syria."

- Abba, we thank You that our times are in Your hands. We pray that governments, world-wide, will not "play chicken", and exchange threats. We ask for Your will to come to pass in this situation, and Your timing of all such actions. In Your judgment, remember mercy, we pray. We look to You to impart Your wisdom to all those who are making decisions regarding any further action against Syria, and we thank You for that wisdom. Amen.

- "For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace." (James 3:16-18)

3. Immigration Reform 2013: House Gang Preps Comprehensive Bill For October Push - International Business Times

Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez has said earlier this week, while speaking in Republican territory in Virginia, that he's already signed off on the measure and eager to introduce it. Now we know that all the Democrats within the bipartisan gang remain unified on the agreement and are waiting on their Republican counterparts to sign off on it. When the Republicans give the go signal, the group will wait for what it believes is the "right bipartisan moment" to introduce the bill, which members believe is in October. By that time they hope Congress will be over the budget fight, with an appropriations bill passed to avert the threat of a government shutdown.

- Abba, we look to You again for wisdom to be given to our Congress, as they consider this legislation. We pray for fairness and righteousness to come forth. We ask for Your timing, and Your discretion and understanding. Amen.

- "My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck." (Proverbs 3:21,22)

4. Gay Spouses in All States Now Married Under U.S. Tax Law - Bloomberg

Gay spouses in all U.S. states will be treated as married under federal tax law even if local authorities don't recognize their marriages . . . The decision by the Treasury Department today implements the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in June to overturn part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which had forbidden the Internal Revenue Service from letting married homosexual couples file joint tax returns.

> > > Please see two commentaries on this IRS ruling, below.

- Lord, indeed we are strangers in a strange land, that we hardly recognize. We are appalled at the decisions being made for us that do not even go through Congress anymore. Executive orders, and edicts being issued from the IRS seem to trump state laws, and force the "left's" agenda upon us. You alone are our Rock, and our sanity in an insane world. Our Hope is in You! Amen.

- "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things, rather than the Creator--Who is forever praised. Amen." (Romans 1:25)

5. Mystery grows: Journalist died prepping Obama exposé - World Net Daily

Major probe tied to agent suspected of sanitizing president's passport records Before his death in a fiery car crash, Michael Hastings was preparing to publish a major investigative piece tied to the undercover agent who is suspected of sanitizing President Obama's passport records prior to the 2008 presidential election. The mystery has only deepened since the Los Angeles Coroner's Office ruled that drugs in his system at the time of the June 18 crash, including amphetamines and marijuana, likely did not contribute to the crash.

- Father, we thank You that You do expose the lies and deeds done in darkness, and bring them to light. We do ask for wisdom to be given to those in charge of the investigation of the death of this man, and ask that the truth come forth into the light. We stand on Your Word, that those things "whispered in the dark" will be shouted from the rooftops.(Luke 12:2,3) May truth prevail, we pray. Amen.

- "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed." (John 3:19-20)

6. US Fast-Food Workers Strike for Higher Wages - Voice of America

Leading up to the Labor Day holiday celebrating the contribution of American workers to society, thousands of low-wage workers at fast-food restaurants and retail stores went on a one-day strike in more than 50 cities. These protests are part of a labor union sponsored campaign to pressure the fast food industry to increase wages and allow workers to unionize In New York City, several hundred restaurant and retail workers took to the streets to demand higher wages.

- Lord, we pray for Your wisdom, and Your understanding in this situation. We realize that our economy is poor right now, and employers are cutting back hours and benefits to employees in anticipation of Obamacare becoming incumbent upon them. And yet, we also sympathize with those who must live on minimum wages to feed themselves and their families.

We know You have the answer, and we pray for all those involved in making these decisions, that they will have compassion, as well as wisdom, in their deliberations. We pray for the workers, that You will help them, and enable them to do a good job, and receive an appropriate income doing so. Amen.

- "Because the Scripture says: 'When an ox is working in the grain, do not cover its mouth to keep it from eating,' and 'A worker should be given his pay'." (I Timothy 5:18)

7. Hawaii's Governor Abercrombie Introduces Draft of Same-Sex Marriage Bill

Gov. Neil Abercrombie yesterday provided state legislators and news media a marriage bill drafted by the state Attorney General. The bill is based on Senate Bill 1369, introduced in the 2013 regular session, and was drafted in collaboration with legislators, staff and stakeholders.

"We are doing our due diligence to remain open, transparent and accessible on this important issue of equality," Gov. Abercrombie said. "Over the coming days, I along with the Lt. Governor, Attorney General and staff will be available to legislative caucuses. Next week, it is my hope to meet with House and Senate leadership to discuss the possibility of a special session."

View the draft bill here.

- Father we repent for this evil that is being forced upon the people of Hawaii in the name of "equality." We ask Your intervention to stop this action.

- "For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught." (Proverbs 3:26)

8. BREAKING! Rebels Admit Responsibility for Chemical Weapons Attack - Infowars.com

Syrian rebels in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta have admitted to Associated Press correspondent Dale Gavlak that they were responsible for last week's chemical weapons incident which western powers have blamed on Bashar Al-Assad's forces, revealing that the casualties were the result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them by Saudi Arabia.

If accurate, this story could completely derail the United States' rush to attack Syria which has been founded on the "undeniable" justification that Assad was behind the chemical weapons attack. Dale Gavlak's credibility is very impressive. She has been a Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press for two decades and has also worked for National Public Radio (NPR) and written articles for BBC News. (Read more here.)

- Maintain your positions of prayer, fasting and repentance, and cry out to Almighty GOD that the true facts of this disastrous tragedy will yet come to light. With prayer, perhaps the anticipated strike by U.S. forces on Syria may yet be averted. Pray!

- "He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light. He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them." (Job 12:22,23)

1. Israel blesses the world with Green economy knowhow - ICEJ

A partnership between Israel's MASHAV, UN agencies and the World Bank Institute resulted this month in a professional program on "Green Economy - Policy Measures and Implementation of Green Growth" at the Weitz Center for Development Studies in Rehovot. Over 30 public officials, environmental leaders, and policy makers from 19 different developing countries participated in the project, learning from Israel's experience in promoting economic development in harmony with sustainable environmental practices.

2. Israeli leaders calm in the face of threats - ICEJ

Israeli leaders issued calm reiterations of their position that Israel is not involved in the Syrian crisis but will respond fiercely if attacked on Thursday, providing a sharp contrast with the hysterical ranting of Iranian and Assad regime officials that Israel would be annihilated if Western forces attack the regime in the near future. "At present there is no need to change daily routines," Prime Minister Netanyahu said.

3. Israel blesses Vietnam with agricultural assistance - ICEJ

Israel inaugurated the Joint Dairy-Farm Demonstration Project at a farm near Ho Chi Minh City this week in the presence of senior representatives from Vietnam's agricultural and political echelon. Ambassador Daniel Carmon, director of the MASHAV foreign assistance program at Israel's Foreign Ministry, said the project would teach Vietnamese farmers how they could massively increase the productive capacity of their farms, benefiting not only themselves but the entire region.

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise," says the Lord; "I will set him in the safety for which he longs." (Psalm 12:5)

1. Mob 1,000 Strong Destroys Church and Beats Pastor in Northern India - Gospel for Asia

Nearly 1,000 people rallied on August 25 to destroy the construction site of a church led by Gospel for Asia pastor Tanvir. They proceeded to beat the pastor and other believers as well.

The congregation in North India had recently resumed construction on the church building after opposition halted their plans two years ago. Only the roof remained unfinished when slanderous rumors were spread around the village, accusing the Christians of culturally offensive actions.

That afternoon, people who had heard the rumors visited the site of the church building and asked the pastor and workers to stop construction.

"We don't want this building in our colony," they said.

Pastor Tanvir complied and stopped construction, but despite his efforts to avoid a clash, an anti-Christian group made an announcement to the village saying that everyone needed to gather together to protect their religion. Around 1,000 people responded and planned their attack on the church building.

The mob came to the site chanting religious slogans, and without any warning to the believers, they began climbing to the top of the church building. They lifted an iron grid off the roof that weighed more than one ton and threw it to the ground.

"I could see the power of Satan working through them when they were lifting the iron web because it was very heavy," Pastor Tanvir said.

After the anti-Christians destroyed the building, they proceeded to seize and beat up Pastor Tanvir and other believers who were present, including Pastor Tanvir's mother. By God's grace, the believers escaped, but they did not return to their homes the entire night as a safety precaution.

White House Muslim Brotherhood Obsession

Just how far would any historic American president go to ensure that his personal agendas are advanced? Generally, throughout the history of the United States, presidents have yielded to the will of the people over their own agendas. In other words, American presidents generally put the country above their personal interests when push came to shove. Not now. President Obama appears to be obsessed with doing the Muslim Brotherhood's bidding throughout the Middle East. It is not in the best interest of the United States nor for the rest of the world. But he is headlong into the Muslim Brotherhood agenda. Question is, when will Congress, the Supreme Court or the American people say "enough is enough"?

Apparently, even the people of Great Britain have had enough of their leader David Cameron playing lapdog to Obama. British Parliament rejected a motion that would have paved the way for the staunchest American ally to join the US in military action against Syria's Assad dictatorship. This prompted Cameron to jump off the lap and sulk on the floor in announcing that the UK will not take part in any military action in Syria. This would seemingly be a blow to the White House plans, but not so. A spokesman for the presidentt's national security council told reporters that the White House would consider going it alone.

The UK Guardian reports that Caitlin Hayden said, "The US will continue to consult with the UK government - one of our closest allies and friends. As we've said, [sic] the president's decision-making will be guided by what is in the best interests of the United States. He believes that there are core interests at stake for the United States and that countries who violate international norms regarding chemical weapons need to be held accountable." Here again, the obsession by this person over advancing the Muslim Brotherhood agenda has become in his mind, "what is in the best interests of the United States."
If the president wants to hold people accountable for violating international "norms" (not laws, mind you), perhaps he should start with holding Islam accountable for its crimes against humanity--slavery, sex trafficking, pedophilia, terrorism, honor killings and the list goes on and on. Let us remember that whoever is using chemical weapons on innocents in Syria is part of Islam. But instead, he sides with the most radical purveyor of Islam--The Muslim Brotherhood. It is in the best interest of the United States to abandon any support for this antichrist system of Islam. As David said to Saul in 1 Samuel 24:13, "As says the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Syria's Christians Ask for Prayer

Bracing for a Possible Military Strike, Syrian Christians ask for Prayer

"God is going to protect the Christian community in Syria and our trust is not in any powers-not in the regime, not in the US-no one else. We are trusting God Himself that He sees and He hears the cries of the Christians."

(Syria)-As the US considers mounting a military response to the recent chemical weapon attack on Syrian civilians near Damascus, the Christian Believers in the Syria know that any action will prompt greater persecution against the Church.

CBN News spoke with a Syrian pastor who said that Syrian Christians are praying for God to intervene with peace.

"The Christians are living in fear right now," noted the pastor, who wished to remain anonymous for his security.

The pastor explained to CBN, "Once NATO hits Syria, that means they're going to weaken the structure and the rule of the system of Syria is going to be destroyed and that means what's going to come next is the Sharia (Islamic) law, and the Sharia law is very much against the existence of Christianity in that part of the world."

Although they are faced with great opposition and don't know what will happen in the coming weeks; Syrian believers are reportedly trusting in the Lord as their help.

"We know God has given promises," the pastor told CBN News. ". . . God is going to protect the Christian community in Syria and our trust is not in any powers-not in the regime, not in the US-no one else. We are trusting God Himself that He sees and He hears the cries of the Christians."

The pastor noted that it's critical for fellow Believers in Jesus everywhere to pray for God's purposes to be fulfilled in the Middle East, and likewise in the West. (Source: CBN News) Read more.

Praying for Turkey

Praying for Turkey

Dear Friends,

This comes from one of the Christian leaders in Turkey who asks our prayers for the current upheaval going on in the country with many thousands protesting against the Islamist-oriented government. Lets' pray for God's will to be done and His purposes accomplished in what has been called the "most unreached" nation in the world for the Gospel of Christ:

"We wanted to let you know about the recent events in Turkey and ask you to join us in prayer. The protests are still going on 78 cities with different intensity. The hardest ones are in Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara. The protest is against the intolerance and dictatorship of the government. The people who are protesting want the government to respect their rights, instead of keeping to change the laws to control their lives.

There has never been such a protest before in Turkey. The protestors are mainly college students and elderly people. They just sit, walk, sing, and talk. There is no violence or resistance on their side when the police beat them up to arrest them. They even clean the mess and bad graffiti about the prime minister every morning until 4:00 AM! It's amazing! People just want to be free from the dictatorship of the government and live in real democracy, not on paper, and they do it with a very civilized and loving attitude. They even serve food and drink to the police who are attacking them with gas bombs, water tanks, etc.
We were hoping that people would not die, but one person was killed by the police in Ankara and another in Antakya during protests. The prime minister started to threaten indirectly by saying that he has been holding 50% of his people not to get involved and do something against the protestors. He'll probably announce what he will do on Saturday and if he releases that 50% on the protestors, a civil war will start and many people will die.
Please, pray with us (and even fast if you can) that God will resolve it before many people die. May His will be done and may we, believers be ready to be used by Him as He works in His sovereign ways.

Thank you so much for your prayers!"

IRS to Recognize Same-Sex Marriages

(From CitizenLink)

IRS to Recognize Same-Sex Marriages
The IRS will consider same-sex marriages as the equivalent of marriage for tax purposes. The recognition will apply even if a same-sex couple is legally married in one state, but lives in another that has not redefined marriage.

The Treasury Department and IRS made the announcement today. This comes two months after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the federal law defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

Although disappointing to many, today's decision reminds us how important it is to stand for God's design for the institution. (By Bethany Monk; CitizenLink; August 29, 2013)

(From the Family Research Council):

FRC Responds to Treasury, IRS Announcements on Homosexual Marriage Benefits
August 29, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council rejected today's Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announcements regarding the way the two government departments will view homosexual marriages.

Of the announcements Chris Gacek, J.D., Ph.D., senior fellow for regulatory policy at the FRC, made the following comments:

"State family policies have been undermined today by the Obama administration. The federal government should not, as Kennedy stated in his opinion for the majority in U.S. v. Windsor, 'put a thumb on the scales and influence a state's decision as to how to shape its own marriage laws.' We disagree with this interpretation of Windsor and are displeased to see the Obama administration's lack of respect for state marriage laws."

Devotional for Day 25:

Intention: Let us remember that our prayers are already based on Biblical promises of assured victory!

Scripture:

"And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly." (Romans 16:20 NKJV)

Reflection:

Satan will be crushed. God will do it, but not without us, for under our feet he will be shattered. Clearly, there will be a final, global fulfilment of this prophecy at the end of the age. But within the overall context of Romans 16:17-20, it is likely that Paul was referring to a partial, local fulfilment in Rome as well. He had just finished describing the divisions, false doctrines and deceptions that were invading the church at Rome, and Paul seemed to be attributing these assaults not just to wicked men but to Satan himself. Through His Church, though, God would enforce His power, authority and victory over the accuser.

If our mission is to exalt the Lord everywhere we go, then certainly we will be enforcing the devil's defeat everywhere our feet step as well. Thus let us crush with confidence! Years ago we led a prayer team from IHOP and YWAM to Culiacan, a city in Mexico. We stayed in a cheap, dirty hotel in a ghetto part of the city. On our last morning there, one of the missionaries with YWAM was walking by the owner of the hotel, and in that moment he heard the Lord say, "It's time." So he and two others started talking with her.
She said that she had reached a point of desperation, was on the verge of losing the hotel due to financial problems, and also sensed a deep need in her life spiritually. She mentioned that the fifth floor of the hotel was haunted by evil spirits, and the previous day she was in a room on that floor. Suddenly, she felt a hand brush up against her neck and pull her hair. Knowing that it was a demon, she was very afraid. At the same time, though not a Christian, she knew she needed help from God and actually cried out to Him in that moment. After hearing her story, the three missionaries shared the gospel with her, and afterwards she prayed with them to receive Jesus into her life. Truly our assignment in the nations is "to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God." (Acts 26:18 NKJV)
Prayer:

Lord, you are highly exalted, far above all principalities and powers and might and dominion.

All authority in heaven and on earth is yours. We are calling upon you today to stretch forth your hand of power and deliver those imprisoned in darkness. Set those free who are trapped in the abortion industry, in sex trafficking, in false religions and false ideologies. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
