Thank You, Everyone! - June 27, 2010

"First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all . . ." (Romans 1:8)

Thank You, Everyone!

Dear Friends,

Grace and peace be unto you through our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus . . .
Two weeks ago tonight, we released our Special Appeal in the face of an imminent financial disaster here, and tonight I am happy to report that I have good news for you!

Due to your wonderful gifts and prayers,THIS DISASTER IS NOW CANCELED and we are well on our way to moving forward through (at least) the rest of this summer!

Tonight, and on behalf of our Board of Directors, I want to say THANK YOU to all of you who have so generously responded to our cry for help!

My heart is full of joy and gratitude as I write this news to you tonight, not only because of your generous giving (please keep it up!!), but even moreso because of the wonderful letters that many of you took the time to write, as well . . . telling us how much this ministry means to you out there.
THOSE NOTES WERE THE MOST OVERWHELMING OF ALL!!

So this weekend, as we prepare to release another edition of the "OCAP," we are also greatly encouraged to know that we ARE "making a difference" for you, as we continue to "partner in prayer" together for our nation! The LORD quickened us to this work sixteen years ago, and now we understand better than ever before how our alerts are serving each of you, as you frame your own intercession for America, for Israel, and for His Kingdom to come on earth, among us.

What a blessing it is for us to serve you, and our Lord, in this very strategic work!!
In closing, and on behalf of our Executive Board, we ask that the Lord's favor will go before you in all that He leads you to do, and that His blessings overtake you . . . even as you have been such a blessing to us.

"He revived us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruins." (Ezra 9:9)

News from Accounting

Dear Friends,

Please be advised that this summer, Capitol Hill Prayer Partners is changing our accounting procedures to reflect the growth of our ministry.

In days past, whenever you gave a gift to CHPP, we then responded with an acknowledgment letter, for tax purposes, for that offering only.

With our new system, we will no longer follow this procedure, but will instead issue one letter to you at the end of the year, listing all of your giving for this year, beginning June 15 through December 31, 2010.

WE DO ASK, HOWEVER, THAT YOU PLEASE RETAIN ALL RECEIPTS FROM CHPP THAT HAVE BEEN SENT TO YOU SO FAR THIS YEAR.

We thank you all for your understanding as we transition to a more streamlined method of accounting, and please know that a great big "thank you" goes with each gift you send!
In His Grace,

Jim Ballenger, Treasurer

The Daily Brief - Friday, June 25, 2010

"I AM with you always, even unto the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

The Daily Brief

1. Congress moves to deal on Volcker rule - The Hill

Congress on Thursday moved a step closer to striking a deal on a controversial part of Wall Street overhaul legislation aimed at restricting trading at big banks.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) unveiled the new language, which was still under debate Thursday night among lawmakers on a conference committee finalizing the bill.

At press time, lawmakers were vowing to complete the conference on the legislation late Thursday, setting up a final vote on the bill before the July 4 recess.

A deal on the Volcker measure could help ease final passage of the 2,000-page Wall Street overhaul bill, and would put President Barack Obama on the cusp of a second major domestic policy victory before the midterm elections. Read more.

- As the House and the Senate move closer to the finish line in passing this legislation at the bidding of the White House, pray that the intricacies of the language of this bill would be written according to the will of God, and not according to the will or the agenda of man. Pray!

- So he said, "I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and goods, And I will say to my soul , Soul, you have many goods laid up for years; take your ease, eat drink and be merry. But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul will be required of you, then whose will those things be which you have provided? "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." (Luke 12 v 18 - 21)

2. Obama: G-8, G-20 Nations Must Work to Re-balance Global Economy - VOA

Obama arrives in Canada Friday for the G-8 and G-20 summits of the world's major industrialized nations. VOA chief White House correspondent Dan Robinson reports, discussions at the G-8 will focus on development, economic, peace and security issues, and the G-20 summit will assess steps member nations are taking along the path of financial recovery.

- Just two days ago, an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale roared through Ottawa, where the G8 is meeting this weekend. Witnesses on the ground said that, in addition to the intense shaking, this quake sounded and felt like a "freight train" roaring under their feet. Is God shouting a warning from heaven? Pray that the world leaders will pay attention to the voice of God, who warns us to seek Him before we make any plans to interfere with the finances of the nations of the world. Pray that hidden agendas will be exposed and corrected.

- Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses, He himself shall dwell in prosperity. And his descendants shall inherit the earth. "The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him, And He will show them His covenant. (Ps. 25 v 12- 14)

"Once more (it is a little while) I will shake the heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory." (Haggai 2:6)

[ Note: The midday quake was felt in Canada on Wednesday and in a number of U.S. states, including Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.. To learn more about this quake, go here.]

3. Russia plans second military base in Kyrgyzstan - London Telegraph

Russia plans to build a second military base in Kyrgyzstan in a bold gambit likely to alarm Washington and other countries in the region.

- About one year ago, Russia was trying to lay claim to part of the nation of Georgia, in an attempt to gain a geographic foothold toward Israel. That attempt failed then; pray that this similar attempt in the nation of Kyrgystan, follows suit.

- All the horns of the wicked I will also cut off, But the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. (Ps. 75:10)

4. Belarus orders cutoff of Russian gas to Europe - Deutche Welle

In a dispute with Russian gas giant Gazprom, Belarus has moved to stop the flow of Russian gas to Europe until it is paid outstanding transit fees.

- God, we bind the powers of darkness that would withhold essential gas supplies from getting to the people in Europe. Move upon the leaders of Belarus and Europe to reach an agreement as soon as possible. May the God of heaven rule over this situation that none can withstand Your strength and wisdom to prevail. Protect the people from harm. In Jesus Name.

- "Because God has been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice." (Psalm 63:7)

5. Youths attack Jewish dance group in Germany - AP

Arab youths threw stones at a Jewish dance group during a street festival in Hanover, injuring one dancer and forcing the group to cancel its performance, German police and dance officials said Thursday. The teenagers also used a megaphone to shout anti-Semitic slurs during the attack Saturday, Hanover police spokesman Thorsten Schiewe said. "I don't remember such a dramatic attack in Germany in recent times," said Michael Fuerst, the head of the Jewish community of the state of Lower Saxony. Read more.

- Offer praise that this horrible incident has not remained hidden, but has come to light. Pray for the hearts of the Arab teenagers to be softened towards the Jewish people. May they be delivered from the bitterness in their souls to walk instead in the full light of the grace and Counsel of God, according to His Word. In Jesus' name, amen.

- If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. (John 15:18)

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (John 13:34)

6. Bible translators hope to have every language covered in 15 years - Denver Post

A Christian endeavor of almost 2,000 years could be substantially completed by 2025.

- God, we give thanks for the Bible translators who give incredible hope to people of every language in the world. Reward them abundantly for their tireless and faithful service to all men everywhere. Anoint them by Your Holy Spirit that this work be completed way ahead of time. May angels stand beside them and give constant encouragement as they put the powerful Word of God into every hand around the globe. In Jesus Name.

- "For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)

What the news media is NOT reporting about the court decision to allow oil drilling

According to the Federal District Court judge, who reversed the White House ban on deepwater oil drilling, the White House lied that experts recommended the ban. While, the judge's decision does not use the word "lie", it says the White House was "misleading," "It was factually incorrect." The decision goes on to say, "Although the experts agreed with the safety recommendations contained in the body of the main Report, five of the National Academy experts and three of the other experts have publicly stated that they "do not agree with the six month blanket moratorium" on floating drilling. They envisioned a more limited kind of moratorium, but a blanket moratorium was added after their final review."

The panel of experts recommended a six month moratorium on drilling exploratory wells deeper than 1,000 feet, but the White House reduced it to 500 feet. The judge's decision estimated that there were 150,000 jobs directly related to offshore drilling in the area. And that the 3,600 structures in the Gulf account for 31% of total domestic oil production. Some 64% of active leases are in water over 1,000 feet. The decision says that those bringing the suit against the ban employ over 11,875 people and that "at least 19 other companies, aside from BP's operations involved with Deepwater Horizon, are presently operating deepwater drilling rigs."

The decision points out, "If some drilling equipment parts are flawed, is it rational to say all are? Are all airplanes a danger because one was? All oil tankers like Exxon Valdez? All trains? All mines? That sort of thinking seems heavy-handed, and rather overbearing...Nonetheless, the Secretary's determination that a six-month moratorium on issuance of new permits and on drilling by the thirty-three rigs is necessary does not seem to be fact-specific and refuses to take into measure the safety records of those others in the Gulf." The Court agreed that the employers of these nearly 12,000 people would suffer irreparable harm as a result of the White House moratorium on oil drilling.

The decision says, "the Court is persuaded that it is only a matter of time before more business and jobs and livelihoods will be lost. The defendants (sic the White House) trivialize such losses...but it does not follow that this will somehow reduce the convincing harm suffered." This judge believes after reviewing the "facts" that the truth is the man who occupies the Oval Office's decision to stop all oil drilling was "arbitrary and capricious." 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Why is the White House appealing this decision when so many jobs are at stake, the price of oil will skyrocket, and there is no basis for public endangerment?

Stem cell breakthrough for blind patients 'after treatment restores vision'

Patients who were left blinded after chemical accidents have had their sight restored using corneas grown from their own stem cells, scientists have claimed.

In the largest study of its kind, Italian researchers said they restored the sight of patients left blinded or suffered severely impaired vision, after suffering chemical burns. Experts said the study, undertaken between 1998 and 2007, offers new hope to the thousands of people who suffer chemical burns on their corneas from heavy-duty cleansers or other substances at work or at home. The research is also being hailed as a key breakthrough in scientific regeneration that could give hope to other patients with otherwise irreversible eyesight.

Graziella Pellegrini, from the University of Modena's Centre for Regenerative Medicine in Italy said the study showed that "at least one kind of therapy can give stable results for up to 10 years. . . They were incredibly happy. Some said it was a miracle," said Dr Pellegrini, who led the study. "We have a couple of patients who were blind in both eyes. Can you imagine for these patients the change in their quality of life."

In the study researchers used so-called adult stem cells, which are partly developed cells found throughout the body. The technique was first performed in 1995. Dr Pellegrini said it has now been done on 252 patients. (London Telegraph) Read more.

- Offer a shout of praise for this report! In this example, doctors do not need to destroy a life in order to save one; but simply use existing stem cells for healing.

- So Jesus answered and said to him, "What do you want Me to do for you?" The blind man said to Him, Rabboni, that I may receive my sight. (Mark 10:51)

The Daily Brief - Thursday, June 24, 2010

"I AM with you always, even unto the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

The Daily Brief

1. G20 countries face split on issue of stimulus spending versus tackling soaring deficits - AP

World leaders who addressed a severe economic crisis with an unprecedented show of strength last year were gathering Thursday to again confront the state of their economies. But they were finding it harder to maintain solidarity with changed challenges and new faces.

Britain, Japan and, unexpectedly, Australia were sending new leaders to the G-20 summit of major industrial and developing economies. As leaders began arriving, Australia's ruling Labor Party ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Julia Gillard was elected Thursday, becoming Australia's first female leader. Wayne Swan, her new deputy and the country's finance minister, was scheduled to replace Rudd for the Canadian meetings.

- Lord, as You shake the nations and replace leaders, we ask for a new fresh move of Your Spirit at the G20 summit in Toronto this weekend. We ask for a visitation, and a fear of You, to be placed at those meetings.

- "See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him Who speaks from heaven." (Hebrews 12:25)

2. Magnitude-5.0 Earthquake Rattles Eastern Canada - AP

A magnitude-5.0 earthquake struck at the Ontario-Quebec border region of Canada on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, and homes and businesses were shaken from Canada's capital in Ottawa on south to an arc of U.S. states.

- "I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. I will halt the arrogance of the proud, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. Therefore I will shake the heavens and the earth will move out of her place" (Isaiah 13:11,13a)

3. Obama Accepts General McChrystal Resignation - AP

[sic] Obama has accepted the resignation of the Honorable General Stanley McChrystal as the U.S. commander in Afghanistan and is replacing him with General David Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command, The Associated Press (AP) news agency reports citing senior officials.

- Lord, one of the sins that can cause a nation to fall is division between its military and civilian leadership. There must be strength both in reality and in appearance, or our enemies have an opening through which evil can strike. We ask for Your intervention in this rift, so that General Petraeus will be able to accomplish freedom and stability for Afghanistan, and bring cohesion and strength to our troops.

- "Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10)

The Bushehr nuclear plant in Iran will go into operation in mid-September, ISNA news agency quoted on Wednesday, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization as saying.

B) Iran: We've enriched uranium to 20% purity - Ha'aretz

Iran has enriched 17 kg of uranium to 20 percent purity, a top official said on Wednesday, underscoring Tehran's determination to push ahead with its nuclear program despite new international sanctions.

- Lord, we place the railings of the madmen who rule Iran before you - and as Nehemiah before us - we ask that You remember Your promises to Israel and all of Your people.

- "I Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and fury and great wrath" (Jeremiah 21:5)

5. New-Home Sales Plunge 33 Pct With Tax Credits Gone - ABC News

Sales of new homes collapsed in May, sinking 33 percent to the lowest level on record as potential buyers stopped shopping for homes once they could no longer receive government tax credits.

The Daily Jot

The prophetic fulfillment of deception falls upon those seeking the doctrines of men

The world is very confused. We can see that the opposite of common sense is being employed in almost every instance. A general is forced to resign because the Commander in Chief has such a tender ego. The world economy is about to buckle beneath debt because intelligent men and women cannot figure out they are spending more than they are receiving or are capable of receiving. Dictators are taking control of private enterprise and expecting profitable results. All the confusion has led to people just not knowing what to think or how to make a decision. They do not understand the truth and therefore they are not free to make correct decisions.

The latest poll by Rasmussen is case in point. The poll indicated that conservatives see the government as a threat to rights while liberals view it as a protector of rights, but there were large amounts of undecideds. The survey found that "nearly half, 48% of American adults see the government today as a threat to rights. Thirty-seven percent (37%) hold the opposite view. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided. Additionally, most Americans (52%) say it is more important for the government to protect individual rights than to promote economic growth. Just 31% say promoting economic growth is more important. But again a sizable number (17%) of adults aren't sure which is more important."

Part of the problem is that people do not discern truth. They are confused by the facts, which do not always indicate what is true. Former Soviet KGB agent Yuri Bezmenov, who defected from the Soviet Union in 1970, conducted an interview in 1984 about Soviet infiltration methods and the plan to take over America. Bezmenov said that by 1970 the Soviet Union already had infiltrated the United States by using a brainwashing strategy called "ideological subversion" designed to change the perception of reality of every American so "no one is able to come to sensible conclusions" to defend themselves, their families, their community, and their country.

Truth by worldly standards is a hard pill to swallow. In John 8:32, Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." No doctrines of man can deliver truth. The truth is found in Jesus. Its plain and simple. But even the church, where truth should prevail, is confused with doctrines of divination, self indulgence and false prophecies. Jesus warned in Matthew 24:11, "And many false prophets shall arise and deceive many." These will deceive many because many will listen to the doctrines of men rather than be standard bearers of the word of God. Make no mistake, if you are seeking the latest doctrine of man rather than the word of God, you will be confused and deceived--just look at the Rasmussen poll.

Kids . . and Condoms?

With Liberty and Prophylactics for All!

A tiny town on Cape Cod has taken one thing off its back-to-school list: parental involvement. To the astonishment of most every media outlet in America, the Provincetown school board voted unanimously to pass out condoms to all students--starting with first graders. Under Massachusetts law, individual school districts are allowed to make their own policies about sex education. But in the first grade? Six-year-olds are usually worried about catching cooties--not Chlamydia!

As if that weren't outrageous enough, school leaders won't allow parents to opt-out. The rule specifically states that Provincetown will not honor requests from moms and dads who want to keep their kids out of the distribution program. In fact, some board members argued that the new policy didn't go far enough. Committee member Shannon Patrick actually complained that students can't have private access to the stash of condoms. "I don't like that students can't be discreet about this," she told reporters. "They have to go and ask for it. I'd rather them not have the conversation." I suppose she would prefer baskets of free birth control at the elementary school doors?

Regardless of how liberal the community may be, it boggles my mind that these activists are getting away with openly defying a family's authority. In district after district, schools are creeping in and substituting their judgment for that of parents'. It's all part of the Left's broader strategy to sexualize children and break down inhibitions so that they become the next generation of Planned Parenthood clients. Beth Singer, the Provincetown superintendent tried to argue, "They are children. They often act without information--on assumption, things they've heard. I think information is always important for kids."

She's right. Information is important--from parents. In most schools, kids can't even take a Tylenol without their mom's or dad's permission, but now it's okay to encourage six-year-olds to have sex without ever calling home? On matters that directly affect a child's health, it is imperative that families are central in the decision-making process.

Even parents who are supportive of condoms for older children should be warned that research shows they aren't effective. Greater access to contraception doesn't reduce teen pregnancies or abortion. David Paton, who has authored four major studies in this area, went so far as to say that "It is clear that providing more family planning... has actually led to an increase [in contraception rates]... It appears that if people have access to family planning advice, they think they automatically have a lower risk of pregnancy."

Unfortunately, this is exactly the kind of "health care" that this administration envisioned for every school in America when it passed ObamaCare. School-based clinics, free birth control pills, millions of dollars for Planned Parenthood--it's all in there. And when those fail, as even liberals expect them to, taxpayers will give free abortions to every woman who wants one. What a difference an administration makes. Under President Bush, kids learned about the real ABCs: abstinence, be faithful, and (as a last resort) contraception. (Family Research Council)

More Corruption in Afghanistan?

Lawmakers accuse military of disregarding warnings on payoffs in Afghanistan

At a hearing, a lack of oversight is blamed for the protection racket in which private security contractors transporting supplies to troops are forced to pay warlords for safe passage. Legislators admonished military officials Tuesday for disregarding warnings that U.S. taxpayers have been bankrolling a mafia-style scheme in which private security contractors transporting supplies to troops in Afghanistan are forced to pay warlords for safe passage.

At a hearing, Rep. John F. Tierney (D-Mass.) blamed a lack of military oversight for the protection payments, which are costing millions of dollars. A congressional report released Monday by Tierney's subcommittee on national security and foreign affairs revealed that the protection racket may be damaging U.S. troops' efforts to build a legitimate Afghan government by funneling money to the insurgency. Several trucking company supervisors said they suspected that the men they hired for protection then paid the Taliban not to attack, according to the report. (LA Times)

Recent Security Lapses at U.S. Military Bases

No Links Seen in Spate of Base Breaches

Officials note an uptick in security incidents at military bases across the United States, but said a link can't be found among the incidents or to terrorism. The latest security incident resulted in a lockdown Monday of a Naval Air Engineering Station in Lakehurst, N.J., after a delivery truck driver told a guard at the gate he had a legal firearm, CNN reported. The base was on lockdown for about an hour and the driver was eventually allowed to leave.

The New Jersey incident followed by several days the fatal shooting at Fort Gillem, Ga., of one soldier allegedly by another soldier, and the arrest of two men at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida on suspicion of trying to bring unauthorized weapons onto the base. While the incidents occurred close together, the FBI, local police and the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigative Command told CNN they can't find a connection among the incidents themselves or a thread tying the attempted breaches to terrorism. State police revoke appointment of Muslim chaplain

Officials from the Illinois State Police have revoked the appointment of a prominent Chicago-area cleric to be its first Muslim chaplain. In a statement, state police officials said Sheikh Kifah Mustapha, the associate director of the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview, could not serve as a volunteer chaplain "due to information revealed during the background investigation."

Last December, Mustapha was one of seven religious leaders trained in Springfield to become volunteer state police chaplains. State police said they discovered after all seven volunteers completed the training that detailed background checks had not been performed. But shortly after Mustapha's appointment, Steve Emerson, executive director of the Washington-based Investigative Project on Terrorism, criticized Illinois law enforcement for ignoring Mustapha's history as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the case against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, once the nation's largest Muslim charity. Oil and Prayer Do Mix!

Last week, the Louisiana Senate passed a resolution calling for a Day of Prayer for the Gulf disaster and those impacted by it. Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) has said the crisis will put 84,000 Louisianans out of work. Similar prayer calls are being organized for the other Gulf States. John Stemberger, President of the Florida Family Policy Council, is working on a coordinated effort, and is asking believers and churches across America to unite in prayer for the Gulf this Sunday, June 27th.

And on July 4th, I'm urging Christians, pastors, and churches across America to join us in observing the second Call2Fall, and to make this 4th of July a time, not just to celebrate, but to cry out to God for our nation. Pastors in all 50 states are uniting in prayer by taking a minimum of five minutes during their Sund ay services to lead people in repentant prayer for America. Please let your pastor know by pointing him to www.Call2Fall.com where he can follow the directions for churches. (Family Research Council)

Religious Liberty Sees Victories in Louisiana and Massachusetts

The Louisiana Legislature has passed in its final hours of session the "Preservation of Religious Freedom Act." The bill, passed in the final hours of the session, declares that the "free exercise of religion is a fundamental right of the highest order in this state" and that states and local governments must not burden an individual's exercise of religion.

The bill now heads to Gov. Bobby Jindal's desk.

Calvary Chapel in the City in Boston won a victory last week against the City of Boston, which had denied religious groups access to community rooms. Calvary Chapel was seeking access to hold Vacation Bible School.

"We feel strongly that Christians are not second-class citizens," said Joel Oster, senior litigation counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). "They should not be denied access to a public meeting room because of their religious views."

On the eve of ADF filing a federal lawsuit, the city backed down and allowed the church access to the meeting room. The city also changed its policy in accordance with the 2001 Supreme Court ruling in Good News v. Milford Central School, which addressed equal access to public facilities.

ADF regularly receives calls about people of faith being denied access to public facilities.

"The law is crystal clear," Oster said. "The Supreme Court has said time and again that cities cannot discriminate against religious views when you are talking about who can access a public meeting room." (CitizenLink)

A Call to Prayer - June 24, 2010

Join the Nation in Praying for the Gulf Oil Disaster on Sunday, June 27th

"I will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortess, my God in whom I trust!" (Psalm 91:2)

Pray for Gulf Oil Crisis!

Join the Nation in Praying for the Gulf Oil Disaster
on Sunday, June 27th

As we find ourselves in the midst of the greatest man-made environmental disaster in our history, the Florida Family Policy Council is joining in prayer with those throughout the Gulf Coast and around the nation to ask for God's mercy and help. Many are facing a sense of helplessness during this ongoing crisis and we are reminded by history that our nation has turned to prayer and humility before God during challenging times.

Consider this quote from President Ronald Reagan:

"We face great challenges in this country, but we've faced great challenges before and conquered them. What carried us through was a willingness to seek power and protection from One much greater than ourselves, to turn back to Him and to trust in His mercy."

Remarks at the Annual National Prayer Breakfast February 3, 1983
(Source: Florida Family Policy Council)

AREAS OF PRAYER FOCUS

• Give comfort to the families of those killed in the initial oil rig blast
• Grant success to the efforts to stem the flow of escaping oil
• Intervene to mitigate further damage and strengthen the hands of clean up crews
• Sustain those whose livelihood is directly impacted by this tragedy
• Preserve the health of citizens along the coastal regions
• Comfort the minds of all citizens, reminding us that He is a strong refuge in times of trouble
• Guide the counsels of our civil leaders and provide them with wisdom and Divinely inspired solutions to the many complex problems associated with this disaster
• Pray that God will prevent future recurrences and prevent Hurricanes in the affected areas

Gulf Coast Governors Join in the Call to Prayer

Governors of Four Gulf Coast States Sign: "The Gulf Coast Disaster Day of Prayer."

As of yesterday, the Governors of the States of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and the Lt. Governor of the State of Florida had all signed a proclamation, calling for a day of prayer on Sunday, which was written by David Barton.

Please find below a portion of that decree.

Whereas, we find ourselves in the midst of the greatest man-made environmental disaster in our history; and

Whereas, it is our heritage that as a people we have been taught not only to publicly acknowledge God for the many blessings bestowed on us but also that we are to turn to Him and seek His aid and assistance in times of distress and calamity; and President Ronald Reagan affirmed not only that "Prayer is the mainspring of the American spirit, a fundamental tenet of our people since before the Republic was founded" but also that "Prayer is today as powerful a force in our Nation as it has ever been. We as a Nation should never forget this source of strength";

President Reagan reminded us that we "have always turned to prayer at times of crisis. We recall the moving story of George Washington kneeling in the snow at Valley Forge to ask for divine assistance when the fate of our fledgling Nation hung in the balance. And Abraham Lincoln tells us that on the eve of the Battle of Gettysburg, 'I went into my room and got down on my knees in prayer.' Never before, he added, had he prayed 'with as much earnestness"; and President James Buchanan reminded citizens: "In this the hour of our calamity and peril, to Whom shall we resort for relief but to the God of our fathers? His omnipotent arm only can save us from the awful effects . . . let our fervent prayers ascend to His Throne."

President John Tyler said that "When a Christian people feel themselves to be overtaken by a great public calamity, it becomes them to humble themselves under the dispensation of Divine Providence, to recognize His righteous government over the children of men, to acknowledge His goodness in time past, as well as their own unworthiness, and to supplicate His merciful protection for the future";

. . . . . The Continental Congress declared that "in the hour of calamity and impending danger . . . we are peculiarly animated, with true penitence of heart, to prostrate ourselves before our great Creator and fervently to supplicate His gracious interposition for our deliverance"
I therefore call a Day of Prayer, urging citizens to pray comfort on the families of those killed in the initial blast; that God would crown with success efforts to stem the flow of escaping oil; that He would interpose to mitigate further damage and strengthen the hands of clean up crews; that He would sustain those whose livelihood is directly impacted by this tragedy; that He would preserve the health of citizens along the coastal regions; that He would comfort the minds of all citizens, reminding us that He is a strong refuge in times of trouble; that He would guide the counsels of our civil leaders and provide them with wisdom and Divinely inspired solutions to the many complex problems associated with this disaster; and that He would prevent future recurrences.

Please Tell Your Friends!

Please forward this alert on to all on your list, so the whole nation can join with those in the Gulf States who will be praying on the GULF COAST DISASTER DAY OF PRAYER on SUNDAY, JUNE 27th.

THANK YOU!!

The Daily Brief - Wednesday, June 23, 2010

"I AM with you always, even unto the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

The Daily Brief

1. Federal Judge Blocks Obama's Offshore Drilling Moratorium in Gulf of Mexico - Fox News

In a victory for drilling proponents, a federal judge struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, saying the government rashly concluded that because one rig failed, the others are in immediate danger, too.

- God, by Your power sustain this victory for drilling proponents and withstand any warfare against this judge's ruling. Protect him personally and all that pertains to him. Cover this entire issue by the power of the blood of Jesus and drive deep Your perfect will that it cannot be shattered or moved. In Jesus Name.

- "But whoso hearkens unto God shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil." (Proverbs 1:33)

2. Sharp Words Expose Rift Over War Policy - Wall Street Journal

Gen. Stanley McChrystal's remarks about senior officials exposed what has been an open secret in Washington and Kabul for months: The fissures that emerged during the Obama administration's three-month review of war strategy last year remain, and many of the personalities involved have strained relations that have festered for months.

- God, reveal all the deep secrets and hidden culprits that have contributed to a gross imbalance in the war strategy on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. Protect the truth that comes out of this upheaval and may all the truth be revealed so that this war against evil forces can be fought without constraints. In Jesus Name.

- "These six things does the Lord hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto Him; a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren." (Proverbs 6:16-19)

3. Obama's real McChrystal problem: Afghanistan plan in trouble - Politico

Gen. Stanley McChrystal's MacArthur moment was more than an embarrassment for the White House -- it was a reminder of just how badly Obama's "good war" in Afghanistan is going.

- Father, may Your perfect will override all the major mistakes in judgment regarding the war in Afghanistan and by Your holy protection prevent loss of life. Lord, put in place sound war strategy and military intelligence to fight this war to win. Provide sufficient military and ample ammunition. Strengthen and empower our servicemen and women with Your holy presence and though they be few, give them resounding victory over all the forces of evil that have overtaken this country. Remove the element of sending men to war unprotected. Protect Gen. McChrystal's life, career and future. In Jesus Name.

- "But Your army will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord, to battle, as my Lord has said." (Numbers 32:27)

4. Amid crises, Obama declares war -- on Arizona - Washington Examiner

The Obama administration has a lot of fights on its hands. Putting aside real wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, there's the battle against leaking oil in the Gulf, the struggle against 9.7 percent unemployment across the country, and clashes over the president's agenda on Capitol Hill. Despite all that, the White House has found time to issue a new declaration of war, this time against an unlikely enemy: the state of Arizona.

- Father, dispatch your warring angels from heaven to encircle the White House, the grounds around Washington, D.C., and around the state of Arizona and its governor, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the oil spill situation, the unemployment issues, the clashes over this administration's agenda, and this new declaration of war. God, empower this army of warring angels to fight against all evil spirits that are bringing mass confusion, baffling and twisted deception upon our country and break their power by the blood of Jesus. Disable and destroy these works of evil. In Jesus Name.

- "Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's." (II Chronicles 20:15)

5. Dems: We're not bound by president's tax vow - The Hill

Democrats are looking at the possibility of raising taxes on families below the $250,000-a-year threshold promised by Obama during the election.

- Father, we ask that You protect these families from increased taxation that they not fall prey to these destructive plans. Send Your holy angels to fight their battle. Block that which is not of God by the power of the blood of Jesus. Wring out the strength of any imposed power that would cause undue hardship upon our people. In Jesus Name.

- "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings." (Jeremiah 17:9-10)

6. 'Allahu Akbar!' shouted as Christians cuffed - World Net Daily

Four Christians were arrested and thrown out of a public Arab festival in Michigan -- and at least two people claim a crowd cheered "Allahu Akbar!" while the Christians were led away in handcuffs for doing nothing more than engaging in peaceful dialogue and videotaping the event.

- Father, Jesus was crucified on a cross and all the sins of mankind were laid upon Him. These sins mentioned here were included. So because there has been provision made for the sinners to repent, we ask that You will convict the hearts of all that attended this festival that they bow their knees before a holy God pleading for mercy before they fall into an eternal abyss. Send forth angels to bring release for these four innocent people who did no wrong. In Jesus Name.

- "Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (Romans 6:16)

Climate Change--Speaking the truth and immediately apologizing for it

There seems to be an air of apologizing for the truth that has encompassed the skies of America. People appear to be so frustrated with the wickedness and incompetence of this nation's leadership that they cannot help themselves but to blurt out what is truly on their hearts. But after the lightening power of their words hit the target and are exposed to the air around them, instead of igniting passion and action, their power is diluted by apology. Have we become so civilized in this nation that we cannot tell the truth and let it stand for what it is? Have we become so politically correct that men will not be men in standing for what is right and just and true?

Last week the man who occupies the Oval Office met with the team of BP about the oil spill. He extracted some $20 billion in clean up commitments from them. Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton said of the incident, "I do not want to live in a country where anytime a citizen or a corporation does something that is legitimately wrong, it is subject to some sort of political pressure that, again, in my words, amounts to a shakedown." Barton was referring to the lack of due process that was applied to BP. If the precedent is set that if there is no due process for BP, nothing prevents the all powerful government to do the same to citizens or American businesses. But under political pressure, Barton apologized.

Now General Stanley McChrystal, the commander of the war in Afghanistan, is on the hot seat for an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. McChrystal apparently is not too impressed with the Commander in Chief and his staff. McChrystal gave the impression that the president was aloof and disengaged, the national security advisor is a "clown," that Ambassador Richard Holbrooke is dangerous, and that Vice President Joe Biden is ineffectual along with much of the rest of the White House staff. But before the article has even hit the news stands, McChrystal is rushing to the White House with an apology. This was the president's own appointment to "fix" the Afghanistan war. Truth, then apology.

Jesus said in John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Jesus was unapologetically a defender of the truth. He was particularly critical of the Jewish governmental and religious leaders of his time. He called the scribes and Pharisees hypocrites and compared them with empty tombs, vipers, and children of hell. In Matthew 23:15, Jesus said, "Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves." Jesus was not only a seeker of the truth, he minced no words pointing out the liars and their actions. Know the truth and don't apologize for it.

Gay Benefits Extended

Expansion of Gay Benefits Threatens Private Sector

SUMMARY: The Obama administration plans to give family medical leave benefits to gay employees and their partners.

The Labor Department is set to announce on Wednesday that the government will extend benefits to gay couples under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). FMLA allows private and public employees to take extended absences for serious medical conditions, including pregnancy, or to care for family members.

The move is significant, because to date, the administration has only looked at benefits for federal employees.

Peter Sprigg, senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, said the latest plan may cause trouble for private employers.

"This action with the Family and Medical Leave Act is a huge leap beyond anything he's done before because he is imposing an obligation upon private employers," he said. "He's not the chief executive of every private employer in the country, and yet, he is telling them that they have to offer benefits to homosexual couples."

DOMA defines marriage for federal purposes as the union of one man and one woman.

"It is not within the power or authority of the president to effect a de facto repeal simply by these little regulations, one regulation at a time," Sprigg said. "The president is going beyond his constitutional and legal authority. If he wants to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, he needs to persuade Congress to repeal it." (CitizenLink)

The General And Obama

It is hard to get a rise out of Obama. When he talks about the 10% of Americans who are unemployed, he looks flat-lined. When he talks about the Gulf oil spill he seems uninterested. "No Drama Obama" doesn't get excited about much until someone dares to criticize him. Just ask Joe the Plumber or Rep. Joe Wilson. Or General Stanley McChrystal. Consider this headline from Politico: "Furious [sic] Obama summons Gen. Stanley McChrystal to D.C."

General McChrystal, commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, was recently profiled in a Rolling Stone article that will hit newsstands later this week. In the article, McChrystal reportedly described Obama as "unprepared" and described his meeting with the president as "disappointing." This morning, the talking heads were demanding that McChrystal be sacked for insubordination. He probably will be. If so, it will be the second time Obama has dismissed the top commander in Afghanistan. Just 13 months ago, Obama fired Gen. David McKiernan and replaced him with Stanley McChrystal.

But, here's the predictable pattern. When Joe the Plumber accused Obama of being a socialist, the issue became Joe the Plumber. It wasn't long before the most intimate details of Joe Wurzelbacher's life were on the evening news. When Joe Wilson accused Obama of lying about his healthcare scheme, Wilson was slammed for his impolite behavior. When Gen. McChrystal criticizes Obama as unprepared, it's McChrystal who is forced to apologize for daring to speak out of line.

If the "main stream" media were doing their job, perhaps they should be asking if General McChrystal's criticism was correct. On MSNBC this morning, Medal of Honor recipient Colonel Jack Jacobs shocked interviewer Contessa Brewer. When asked about Gen. McChrystal's criticism of Obama and that of his advisors, Col. Jacobs said, "Those views [in the military] are widely held. They're not just held by McChrystal's staff for example." (Gary Bauer)

Dept. of Justice Sues State of Arizona

More Evidence Of Democrat Disconnect: Obama's Lawsuit Against the State of Arizona

America's top foreign policy official, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, broke some big news earlier this month that was just picked up by American media last week.

During a June 8th interview with a news station in Ecuador, Hillary was asked about Arizona's new anti-illegal immigration law. The reporter had done her homework and knew polling found strong support among the American people for the law. As we reported last week, an ABC/Washington Post found 58% of Americans support it.

Undaunted, Hillary responded: "[sic] Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that the federal government should be determining immigration policy. And the Justice Department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit against the act."

That was news to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and most of the media. Gov. Brewer had met with [sic] Obama at the White House just five days before Hillary's interview to discuss the law. Obama reportedly "brushed over" her concerns about a lawsuit from the Justice Department.

A "stunned and angered" Gov. Brewer responded, "This is no way to treat the people of Arizona. To learn of this lawsuit through an Ecuadorean interview with the Secretary of State is just outrageous. If our own government intends to sue our state to prevent illegal immigration enforcement, the least it can do is inform us before it informs the citizens of another nation."
A new Rasmussen poll finds that the American public is still on the side of Arizona. Not only do 58% of Americans support the law, but Rasmussen found that only 26% of likely voters support the Obama lawsuit against Arizona, while 56% think Arizona should not be sued, including 59% of Independent voters and even 34% of Democrats. It's hard to imagine the White House and congressional Democrats being more disconnected from the American people, but I suspect they'll find more ways to surprise me. (Gary Bauer)

Hawaii Civil Unions on Governor's Veto List

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle has published a list of legislation she may soon veto, including the recently passed civil unions bill. The bill would give special rights to gay couples in the state, without the name "marriage." Historically, most bills on such a list have been vetoed. Lingle has until July 6 to make her decision.

Francis Oda, chairman of the Hawaii Family Forum, said his group will keep up the pressure on Lingle until she vetoes the measure. "We're gratified," he told The Associated Press, "and hopeful for an eventual veto."

- Please continue to lift up this key decision in prayer, until Governor Lingle has actually taken the desired action on this bill. Thank you.

The Daily Brief - June 22, 2010

"I AM with you always, even unto the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

The Daily Brief

1. Federal Judge Blocks Offshore Drilling Ban - AP

A federal judge struck down the Obama Administration 6 month ban on deep water oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico simply saying that the Administration assumed that because one rig exploded, the others pose an immediate danger too.

- Offer a chorus of praise over this decision, which is clearly an answer to prayer!

- "My whole being will exclaim "Who is like you oh Lord?" You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them." (Psalm 35:10)

2. Gulf Spill Fund to Speed Up Payouts - Washington Times

The administrator of a $20 billion fund to compensate Gulf oil spill victims pledged Monday to speed payment of claims as a federal judge considered whether to lift a six-month moratorium on new deepwater drilling. BP has paid out more than $100 million so far. Various estimates place total claims so far in excess of $600 million.

• Lord, we pray these lawsuits will not add to the confusion of capping this oil spill. We pray the courts will lift the moratorium on the oil drilling, so that our oil resources will not be depleted, but only if lessons have been learned from this catastrophe.

• Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)

3. Times Square Plotter Pleads Guilty, Warns of 'War' - USA Today

Faisal Shahzad, a Connecticut father of two, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to plotting to blow up Times Square and warned more such attacks would come unless the U.S. leaves Muslim countries.

Federal agents say Shahzad, of Bridgeport, Conn., attempted on May 1 to explode bombs stashed in an SUV he had parked near a Broadway theater. The bombs, which included a gun cabinet packed with fertilizer fuel and propane tanks and gas canisters rigged with fireworks, failed to ignite properly. A vendor who noticed smoke coming from the SUV called police, who evacuated Times Square.

• Lord, we thank you for your protection and your mercy. This attack was thwarted by you, and we are grateful. Let other would-be bombers and terrorists be stopped before they can do any harm.

• Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them. (Psalms 17:7)

4. Fannie, Freddie Could Cost $389 Billion - NewsMax

For all the focus on the historic federal rescue of the banking industry, it is the government's decision to seize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in September 2008 that reportedly is likely to cost taxpayers the most money. On average, they recoup less than 60 percent of the amount borrowers failed to pay.

• Heavenly Father, the time has come to put an end to these expenditures that are draining our finances greatly. Put godly business people and patriots in place to bring solutions, and turn our nation around in our finances.

• The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, But the words of the pure are pleasant. He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live. (Proverbs 15:26, 27)

5. Gay Workers to Get Family Leave - ABC News

The Labor Department is ready to tell employers they must give gay workers the same opportunity as heterosexual ones to take unpaid time off to care for their partners' newborns or loved ones.

Last year, Obama gave federal workers' same-sex partners a first round of benefits including visitation and dependent-care rights. He also authorized child-care services and subsidies; more flexibility to use family leave to attend to the needs of domestic partners and their children; relocation benefits; giving domestic partners the same status as family members when federal appointments are made; and access to credit union and other memberships when those are provided to federal workers.

• Lord, while we know that you love the sinner but hate the sin, we know that the gay lifestyle is an abomination to you. We pray that you remove immediately all those in favor of redefining marriage between a man and a woman. We pray for their salvation. Let them abhor their sin!

• But the sons of rebellion shall all be as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands, but the man who touches them must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear. " (2 Samuel 23:6, 7)

6. Report: California on 'Verge of System Failure' - NewsMax

The government spent so far beyond its means that mass layoffs, welfare reductions that leave a million children and the poor and elderly without needed services and failing infrastructure are now the norm.

Budget analysts say Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has no choice but to ask Washington for bailout funds, and that Washington has no choice but to agree because not bailing out the Golden State could put the entire U.S. economy at risk. It seems that California - which at one time had the third-largest economy in the world - is like the biggest U.S. banks: Too big to fail.

• Lord, all the wasteful programs and greed have caused California and the US. to lose fiscal restraint. We pray that unfavorable programs will be deleted, and only productive programs kept. Reverse our downward spiral.

• The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand. A man will be commended according to his wisdom, but he who is of a perverse heart will be despised. (Proverbs 12:7,8)

7. Planned Parenthood's Missing millions - The Washington Times

Planned Parenthood Federation of America's (PPFA) audits show the organization spent just $657.1 million between 2002 and 2008 from federal government grants and programs, but the abortion behemoth's own annual reports show that it took in $2.3 billion from government grants and programs during the same time period.

Someone, then, needs to explain to all those people why $2.3 billion in tax dollars have been doled out to an organization that admits to systematically having killed more than 1.8 million pre-born babies between 2002 and 2008 and then reports it only spent $657.1 million in federal dollars.

• Heavenly Father, we pray for continued vigilance and wisdom- as to what we have to do- and what rules we need to initiate, in order to keep our country from those who would kill innocent children. We pray our nation will turn to You, and will stand strong to protect the unborn.

• In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. (Proverbs 3:6-7)

8. Rahm Emanuel expected to quit White House - London Telegraph

Washington insiders say he will quit within six to eight months in frustration at their unwillingness to "bang heads together" to get policy pushed through.

- Begin to pray now for the one who will fill Emanuel's shoes when he leaves. Cry out to God to raise up a Chief of Staff for Obama who is PRO-ISRAEL. Ask for a miracle! Amen!

6. US issues travel warning against joining Gaza blockade runs - ICEJ News

The US State Department issued a travel warning on Sunday for any American citizens trying to engage in further efforts to breach the Gaza blockade by sea, joining Britain in warning away its citizens from joining aid flotillas bound for Gaza. "US citizens are advised against traveling to Gaza by any means, including via sea. Previous attempts to enter Gaza by sea have been stopped by Israeli naval vessels and resulted in the injury, death, arrest and deportation of US citizens," warned the US State Department. The warning follows Israel's request that countries issue such warnings to deter further attempts to break the blockade.

The prophetic example of how to change the condition of America

Upon hearing the news that the remnant in Jerusalem were under great affliction, the prophet Nehemiah prayed to the Lord. He confessed sins and reminded the Lord of the promise that "if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them . . . I will gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there." Nehemiah asked for mercy. The Lord made a way for Nehemiah to discuss his concern with the king that Jerusalem should be rebuilt. And that request was granted. But as the process of rebuilding began, those in Jerusalem were still not abiding in the word of God, which caused extraordinary problems.

Nehemiah Chapter 5 finds the people of Jerusalem in great distress. They began complaining against each other. Verses 5:3-5 say, "We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the famine. There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the kings tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards."

This oppression was the result of sin--because there was exploitation of misfortune, a lack of love for one another, as well as various other violations of God's word. The oppression stemmed from a system where the government over Jerusalem encouraged usury, and also partook of it. There was a famine, where just to eat the people mortgaged even their children, and could not redeem them. When society is tipped in the balance toward sinful ways, good people suffer along with the evil. And the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. America, with its debt and usury--both personal and national, may well be headed for a Nehemiah era if its people and its government do not repent from their wicked ways.

Nehemiah, however, also gives us an example of what to do about this. First, he called an assembly of the nobles and rulers and rebuked them and got them to agree to restore the usury and the food that was taken. And then, Nehemiah led by example. He writes that when he was appointed governor, "the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea even their servants bare rule over the people, but so did not I, because of the fear of God." A lesson for America before we get into such extreme condition--we need to repent, rebuke our rulers, and put those in place who fear God. Sooner than later.

Congress Moves on Iran Sanctions

US Congress settles on tougher Iran sanctions

Poll finds widespread support for military strikes on Iran's nuclear sites

After waiting for the Obama administration to secure another round of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran's renegade nuclear program, both Houses of the US Congress reached agreement on Monday on a compromise set of measures that would go well beyond the UN resolution by penalizing Iran's business partners for selling the country gasoline, investing in its refineries, or providing financial services to firms linked to its political and military elite.

The sanctions package now set for full congressional approval amounts to a more confrontational approach to Iran than that taken by the Obama administration. It would reinforce existing US sanctions, penalizing American companies for violations by foreign subsidiaries and barring some of Iran's financial partners from US financial markets. The bill would also target violators of human rights and increase criminal penalties of up to $1 million in fines or 20 years in jail for violators of any sanctions.

If applied forcefully by Obama, this act will bring strong new pressure to bear on Tehran in order to combat its proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, support for international terrorism, and gross human rights abuses," the legislation's co-sponsors said in a statement.

The pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC hailed the pending bill as "the toughest piece of Iran sanctions legislation ever passed by Congress." (ICEJ News)

Turkey's Actions a "Historic Shift"

Israeli Ambassador Oren: Turkey's actions mark 'historic' shift

Dr. Michael Oren, Israel's Ambassador to the US and a noted Middle East historian, said on Monday that Turkey's recent actions in support of the hostile Gaza aid flotilla mark a change of "historical proportions" which is cause "deepening discomfort" and "uneasiness" on Capitol Hill. In an interview with The Jerusalem Post, Oren said that Turkey is making a shift from being pro-West towards the East whose outcome is unpredictable.

"We are living in a sea of change," said Oren. "The change in Turkey's orientation - literally toward the Orient - is an event of historical proportions. Turkey's return to the Middle East after a hiatus of 90 years is huge, and nobody knows where this is going." Oren added there has also been a huge shift in US foreign policy with [sic] Obama in office and his efforts to reform both US domestic and foreign policies. Israeli policy has remained constant, while US and Turkish foreign policies are the ones changing, he assessed. About Elena Kagan

Kagan Lacks Wisdom of Solomon

Last week Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) took to the Senate floor to defend [sic] Obama's Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's role in kicking military recruiters off of Harvard's campus while she was the law school dean. He might have wanted to wait to read the new documents released this weekend that show that not only was Elena Kagan key in kicking military recruiters off campus, directly violating U.S. law, she did so more or less independently--not even consulting the dean of Harvard University, Lawrence Summers.

The law she violated was the Solomon amendment that insists that if your university accepts federal funds it should also accept military recruiters. She called the current policy of "Don't A sk Don't Tell," which was created by her future boss President Bill Clinton and supported by the Democratic Congress at the time, "a moral injustice of the first order." She was so outraged that she did not work with the Pentagon to find a solution, instead leaving that work to others, which was fine to Military leaders at the time who found her hostility to them prevalent.

If Ms. Kagan has such disdain for passed legislation she disagrees with that she is willing to violate the law instead of seeking a solution, does she really have the temperament to have a permanent seat on the U.S. Supreme Court? (Family Research Council)

The Emperor's New DISCLOSE

You can add the Obama's name to the list of supporters on the DISCLOSE Act, or as we like to call it, the 2010 Incumbency Protection Act." The White House issued a statement of endorsement this week, just as Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tried to quash the rumors that the Senate wouldn't take up the bill if it passed the House. Despite outrage from his own side, Sen. Reid wrote, "We commit to working tirelessly for Senate consideration of the House-passed bill so it can be signed by the president in time to take effect for the 2010 elections." Considering the tough race the Majority Leader faces it is no surprise he wants to move quickly to silence the opposition.

Meanwhile, H.R. 5175 seems to be inching closer to a vote in the House as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tries to cobble her shaky coal ition back together after several Democrats stepped away from the bill. Once again, she resorted to some backroom wheeling and dealing to buy back her support, this time by protecting government contractors who might be banned from political speech during election season. As always, Speaker Pelosi is on the lookout for new ways to undermine democracy to get her legislation passed. In a great sound bite from the debate, Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) described it as "auctioning off the First Amendment." Going once . . . going twice . . . (Family Research Council)

White House Hosts GLBT Party Tonight

At tonight's gay and lesbian pride bash, the White House won't be giving out party favors--but political favors. Before America's most prestigious residence is transformed into a festival of perversion, Obama got the celebration started early by altering a major federal policy. Yesterday, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced that it would order companies, including private businesses, to give 12 weeks of unpaid leave to homosexuals who want to care for their partner's sick child or loved one. The Department is expected to make a formal announcement about the changes tomorrow, giving the revelers plenty to toast tonight.

. . . As much as Obama may care about the upcoming elections, he is quietly building an Executive safety net that will more than cushion the blow if November 2nd wipes out his party's leadership. After all, why worry about losing the congressional majority if you can execute your policies without it? You've heard of activist judges. Well, meet the first activist man to occupy the White House. He has a pointed, under-the-radar strategy motivated by two things: mobilizing his affluent homosexual base to give more and work harder for victory this fall, while demoralizing the vast majority of America that disagrees with his radical agenda. This administration hopes that the more time conservatives spend wringing their hands about these changes, the less time they will spend doing something about them.
