Today's Daily Brief

1. McCain Stands Out on Super Tuesday as Dems Prepare for Fresh Rounds - CNN Politics.com, Fox News and the Washington Times

U.S. Senator John McCain took a commanding lead over his Republican presidential rivals on Super Tuesday. Sen. McCain won in nine states: New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut, Delaware, Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma and California, giving him 468 delegates. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won in seven states: Massachusetts, Utah, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and Colorado and Alaska, for 158 delegates. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee came in third with wins in five southern states: Arkansas, Alabama, West Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee for 132 delegates. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas claimed nine delegates.

But there wasn't a clear winner in the Democratic race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, forcing them to prepare for battle in the post-Super Tuesday states. Sen. Clinton won eight of the 22 states that had Democratic primaries or caucuses: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Sen. Obama won 13 states: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota and Utah. New Mexico was still undecided with approximately 110 votes separating the two candidates.

For Republicans, 1,023 delegates were being decided Tuesday and 1,191 are needed to win the Republican nomination. On the Democratic side, 1,681 delegates were up for grabs Tuesday and 2,025 are needed to secure the party's nomination.

May we as Christian participants be seen as true sons and daughters of Your Son, Jesus Christ; and may our actions reflect, "What Would Jesus Do?" We pray that we will remember to ask You for wisdom when we vote in all upcoming races according to Your values. We ask that the 2008 Presidential Election be remembered as one that was uniting and not dividing for the nation. May America be saved!

2. Stocks See Not-So-Super Tuesday: "Recession Is Here" - Economists - ABC News and CNN

Wall Street plunged Tuesday, sending the Dow Jones industrials hurtling down nearly 370 points after investors saw an unexpected contraction in the service sector as evidence that the economy is sinking into recession.

A growing number of top economists believe that the U.S. economy has now toppled into recession. Alarm bells sounded Tuesday after the release of a report by The Institute of Supply Management showing declining activity in service businesses for the first time in nearly five years. The findings also showed that employers are cutting staff. Surveyed areas included the retail, transportation and health care industries as well as hard hit areas such as finance, real estate and construction.

· You have seen economies come and go, Lord, and have raised up civilizations and let them fall. May the people of America know that without turning to You there will be no lasting economic recovery, no matter who the next President of the United States is.

3. Al Qaeda Seen Planning Another Attack On U.S. - Washington Times

Senior al Qaeda leaders have diverted operatives from Iraq across the globe and are increasing preparations to strike the United States, senior intelligence officials told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence yesterday. They said the terrorists had plans to attack the White House as recently as 2006, and added that al Qaeda is now recruiting Westerners to terror camps in Pakistan.

"Al Qaeda is improving the last key aspect of its ability to attack the U.S. - the identification, training and positioning of operatives for an attack in the homeland," said Michael McConnell, director of national intelligence, which oversees all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies.

· We could not sleep at night if not for Your protection, Lord. May these terrorists and their recruits be stopped before they commit any further attacks. May they, their families and friends, and their very countries be visited by Your Son, Jesus; so that they can accept Him as their Savior. Thank You for listening to our cries for help. Amen.

4. Senate Delays FISA Action for Stimulus Package - CNSNews.com

Though both Republicans and Democrats have said that updating surveillance laws is critical to national security, the legislation stalled in the Senate Tuesday as lawmakers considered the president's economic stimulus package instead. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) sets guidelines on how the government can conduct surveillance for intelligence gathering. At the request of the intelligence community, Congress passed updates to the law in August. Congress has now passed a two-week extension to the updates known as the Protect America Act while it considers a more permanent solution.

5. Tornadoes Leave At Least 50 Dead Across South, Injuring Hundreds - USA Today and Fox News

An estimated 60 tornadoes ripped across five Southern states Tuesday night, tearing through homes, ripping the roof off a shopping mall and blowing apart warehouses in a rare spasm of violent winter weather. The unusual winter storms that churned across the nation's midsection could claim 50 lives. Reported victims included 26 people in Tennessee, 13 in Arkansas, seven in Kentucky and four in Alabama. Mississippi also suffered storm damage but no reported loss of life.

President Bush said he called the governors of Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee and assured them the administration was ready to help and to deal with any emergency requests. "Loss of life, loss of property - prayers can help and so can the government," Bush said. "I do want the people in those states to know the American people are standing with them."

· Dear Lord, You are in the little things; the last breaths of life, the last rain drops and the last tears. And, You are in the larger things, like the calming of the Sea of Galilee to increase Your disciples' faith. We ask that You will be in all of the details to restore these five states and their people to spiritual and material wholeness. May many come to know You as their Savior because of this tragedy, and may You be blessed for allowing these acts of nature to happen. You truly can do all things.

6. Fears Over Russian Nuclear Threat To UK - London Telegraph

Russia may abandon the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty of 1987, which eliminated medium-range nuclear missiles in Europe and helped end the Cold War, according to an authoritative military study entitled "The Military Balance 2008." Russian President Vladimir Putin has already stopped following the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE) of 1992 that restricts the deployment of troops and tanks near sensitive European frontiers, and is expected to formally withdraw from CFE later this year.

John Chipman, head of the International Institute for Strategic Studies which published the study; said that taken together, these steps would allow Russia to build a new generation of medium-range nuclear missiles capable of striking Western Europe. Its armed forces would also be free to deploy near any European country bordering Russia.

7. Russia Plans Buildup In The Mediterranean: 'Russia Has Strategic Interests- World Tribune

Russia has completed a two-week naval exercise in the Mediterranean and plans to re-establish its footprint in the region. Russian Navy commander Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky said his force would establish a presence in areas deemed by Moscow as strategic. Vysotsky said this would include the Mediterranean and the neighboring Atlantic Ocean.

"What is important is that we have arrived in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean at a scheduled time and not just that we appeared there," Vysotsky said on February 3. "We'll do all we can to build up our presence where Russia has strategic interests."

· Dear Lord, it seems we ask every week for Mr. Putin to repent of his sins and turn to You for forgiveness and salvation. May we not become weary of asking for him and his people to repent of their sins so that they might be saved. May the strongholds of pride and arrogance be destroyed in his heart, Russia and the world; and may those whom they oppress be saved!

8. Three-Parent Embryo Formed In Lab - BBC

British scientists believe they have made a potential breakthrough in the treatment of serious disease by creating a human embryo with three separate parents, using DNA from a man and two women in lab tests. The Newcastle University team believe this could help eradicate a whole class of hereditary diseases, including some forms of epilepsy; and could ensure women with genetic defects do not pass the diseases on to their children.

Opposition include Josephine Quintavalle, of the pro-life group Comment on Reproductive Ethics, who said it was "risky, dangerous" and a step towards "designer babies." "It is human beings they are experimenting with. We should not be messing around with the building blocks of life." She further added that embryo research in the U.S. using DNA from one man and two women was discontinued because of "huge abnormalities" in some cases. Dr. David King, of Human Genetics Alert, also expressed concern about a "drift towards 'GM babies.'"

· Unbelievable, Lord, that mere humans would think that they can improve upon Your gift of life. May these scientists be forgiven for their audacity to tamper with Your creation of Life and be saved from their sins. May the scientific community look only to You for direction in their experiments. For Your glory we pray. Amen.

In the wake of Monday's double suicide bombing attempt, the Israeli Air Force fired missiles at a Hamas base in Gaza, killing six Hamas militants. Responding to that and earlier targeted killings, Palestinians sent barrages of rockets into Israel, the latest a volley of eight Kassam rockets, one of which scored a direct hit on a home Sderot, leaving six people lightly wounded.

2. 3 Qassam rockets land in Ashkelon - Ynet News

Three Qassam rockets landed Tuesday night in southern Ashkelon. There were no reports of injuries or damage. Hamas claimed responsibility for firing the rockets.

Judge Affirms Christian Man's Right to Share His Faith

A federal judge in Nebraska ruled Monday that a Christian can publicly share his faith.

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) filed a lawsuit on behalf of Kevin Pulver, who was threatened by police with citations, arrest and a court appearance for attempting to speak peacefully in a public arena near Hastings College.

The court ruled against the unconstitutional ordinance, guaranteeing Pulver's First Amendment right to speak in public about his faith. ADF said the ruling benefits more than freedom of speech for just one individual, and is good for the entire Christian community.

"Christians shouldn't be penalized for expressing their beliefs. This is a public area where all people are allowed to speak their views under the First Amendment," said ADF Senior Counsel Nate Kellum. "Singling out and squelching religious speech is a clear violation of the Constitution."

Campus Victory in Georgia

Christian Group Allowed to Return to Georgia Campus

Following a lawsuit by the Alliance Defense Fund and National Legal Foundation (NLF), Savannah State University will allow a Christian group to return to campus.

Savannah State expelled the group Commissioned II Love in September after university officials said the group's act of sharing the Gospel was "harassment" and its practice of washing the feet of new members was "hazing."

"The university is doing the right thing now in allowing this student group to return to being part of the campus community in the same way as other groups who also hold to distinctive beliefs and practices," NLF attorney Barry Hodge said.

Frozen Stem Cells Save British Toddler's Life

SUMMARY: She was given just a 30 percent chance of survival before treatment.

A toddler with a rare form of cancer has been saved after she became the second person in Britain to be given a transplant using frozen umbilical-cord stem cells, Fox News reported.

Two-year-old Sorrel Mason, from Great Wratting in Suffolk, was given only a 30 percent chance of survival after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Millions of stem-cell samples across the world were checked after no match was found in Europe. Doctors eventually found a partial match from stem cells taken from an umbilical cord frozen in Tokyo.

Sorrel made a complete recovery after undergoing treatment with the umbilical-cord stem cells from Japan at a Bristol children's hospital last year.

"We've known for some time that leukemia has been successfully treated using adult stem cells," said Dawn Vargo, associate bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "This story provides hope that the healing properties of adult stem cells can be harnessed even when the cells have been frozen."

Sorrel's mother, Samantha Mason, 38, thanked doctors for "pulling off a miracle."

Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton fought for a breakout in their eyeball-to-eyeball Democratic duel while Republican John McCain hoped to bury his rival's presidential hopes in a blur of voting Tuesday from Alaska to the Atlantic. An enormous cache of delegates was at stake -- not enough to clinch a nomination but plenty enough to mint a runaway favorite, or even two.

· Lord, we believe that You have heard our prayers for a righteous person to win this presidential race. We believe that You will have Your way and not man! Amen!

2. Born Again Christians Favor Democratic Candidates, Says Survey - Christian Post

A surprising new survey out Monday found that more born again Christian voters said they would support a Democratic candidate than a Republican candidate, breaking the long tradition of born-again support for the GOP.

· Lord, we pray that You will open the eyes of the born- again Christian voters to see that we cannot have anything to do with darkness. The pro-abortion and homosexual stance of the Democratic Party and their candidates is the big schism between those that walk according to God's will and those who do not.

3. Media malpractice: Popular support for Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee not news - World Tribune

Whatever you think of Ron Paul, you have to admit that the media are notoriously biased against him. The Fox News Channel unfairly excluded him from its January 6 debate, while MSNBC and CNN tried to keep him from speaking for any significant length of time during their January 24 and January 30 debates. This is a candidate, we must recall, who placed second in the Republican Nevada caucuses on January 19, beating John McCain.

· Father God, You are fair and just in all Your ways. There is not shade of turning with You. We pray that You will cause the media to be fair in covering all the candidates so that citizens can have a real idea of the different viewpoints of the candidates. We pray that only those things that need to be said. Raise up our King David for this time.

· For I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He. (Deuteronomy 32:3, 4)

In the nation's first-ever $3 trillion budget, President Bush seeks to seal his legacy of promoting a strong defense to fight terrorism and tax cuts to spur the economy. Democrats, who control Congress, are pledging fierce opposition to Bush's final spending plan -- perhaps even until the next president takes office.

· Lord, we pray for peace in our government. Let every person desire peace and pursue it. We pray that You will move on the hearts of our leaders to not only desire righteousness, but courtesy, in all their affairs.

· Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. (Philippians 2:3) Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)

The FBI is gearing up to create a massive computer database of people's physical characteristics, all part of an effort the bureau says to better identify criminals and terrorists.

· Heavenly Father, we pray the You will take charge over these plans. Let nothing be agreed upon that would cause harassment for Christians later on. Direct our decisions and our steps. We ask You to place people who will have Your wisdom in these positions of authority. Amen!

6. Navy test fires powerful electromagnetic 'railgun' - AFP

The US Navy test fired the world's most powerful electromagnetic railgun Thursday, launching a projectile at a velocity of 2,500 meters per second, or 5,600 miles per hour, into a bunker.

· While we are encouraged by this success on the part of our Navy, we are even more comforted, knowing that our ultimate security rests with our Savior.

Fighting raged on for a third day Monday in Chad's capital, N'Djamena, as rebels sought to take control of the oil-rich African nation.

· Lord, we pray that just as You divided their tongues, You will divide these tongues so they will no longer plan violence! Let them be divided and distracted!

· Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues, For I have seen violence and strife in the city. (Psalms 55:9 )

8. China battles "coldest winter in 100 years" - Int'l Herald Tribune

Railways and highways were returning to normal across China on Tuesday, but millions are likely to spend the biggest holiday of the year without power and water in what for some is the coldest winter in a century.

· Pray for a miracle of divine intervention in the nation of China. Thousands are now coming to Christ daily in this huge nation . . . may each one survive this disaster to live to share the witness of the Gospel with others who are perishing. Ask our Lord to loose His angelic forces to miraculously protect the citizens of China; and may He grant grace to the authorities who are responding to this cataclysm. In their own helplessness, pray that they, too, would find the Lord.

· "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28) For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the Lord, and there is no other. Israel Police decided to increase its presence in main cities and crowded places, fearing that more attacks will follow Monday's suicide bombing in Dimona.

4. Fatah: Bombers infiltrated Israel through Egypt - Ynet News

Members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestinian and the al-Aqsa Brigades, Fatah's military wing, confirmed Monday that the two suicide bombers who carried out the attack in Dimona had entered Sinai from the Gaza Strip and infiltrated Israel through Egypt.

A 70-year-old woman convert from Islam died on Friday (February 1) from burns she suffered when unknown assailants in a Muslim-majority area about 150 miles northwest of the capital set her home on fire last month.

2. India Hindu Militants "Force" Orissa Christians To Convert "At Gunpoint" - Worthy News

Hindu militants have "forced" Christian families to "convert" to Hinduism and threatened to resume attacks against Christians in the eastern Indian state of Orissa, where up to nine people were killed in religious clashes last month, an advocacy group said Sunday, February 3.

Council On American Islamic Relations Trying To Shut Down Free Speech

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) poses as a civil rights organization for Muslims, but is, in fact, "a political organization that advocates a specific political agenda on behalf of foreign interests," according to radio talk show host Michael Savage. Savage has sued CAIR for copyright violations when the organization used segments of one of his shows discussing Islam to-as Savage puts it in his lawsuit-"raise funds for CAIR so that it could self perpetuate and continue to perform its role in the RICO conspiracy set forth in Count Two and to disseminate of propaganda on behalf of foreign interests that are opposed to the continued existence of the United States of America as a free nation."

Savage says that CAIR, using his program illegally, set out to raise funds for its organization and "organized contacts with various advertisers including Walmart, AutoZone, JC Penny and others whereby CAIR sought to convince them not to advertise on The Michael Savage Show. Any success in this area was due to the copyright infringement and the false context in which the material was presented. CAIR caused some advertisers to pull advertising but they also made false claims as to many other advertisers. These false claims were done in part to intimidate other talk show hosts."

Savage's point is that CAIR wants to shut down free speech in America by quelling any discourse on Islam. In fact, Savage's lawsuit goes a step further by indicating that CAIR not only illegally used excerpts from his radio show, but also is violating racketeering laws and is representing foreign interests who want to see an end to the United States. Savage accused CAIR of exploiting the 9/11 terrorist attacks to raise money for the Holy Land Foundation-on trial in Texas for funding the terrorist organization Hamas. In CAIR's answer to the lawsuit, it admits that it "offered a link to websites for Muslim and non-Muslim organizations collecting donations for 9/11 survivors, including the Holy Land Foundation's website."

The Muslim Brotherhood plan to colonize North America exposed in the Holy Land Foundation trial called for organizations like CAIR to establish footholds in the U.S. and raise money for terrorist operations and for establishing strongholds in America. The Savage lawsuit against CAIR is one that all Americans should support because it impacts free speech, and further, it exposes the deep web of Islamic insurrection against the United States. This nation needs to turn back to its Christian roots in deed and spirit or it may well face the judgment of Babylon seen in Jeremiah 51:14, "Surely, I will fill you with men as with locusts; and they shall raise a battle cry against you." Michael Savage knows this all too well.

The GOP's Fall from Grace

If Republicans hope to rebuild faith in the party, a new poll suggests that the GOP start with some genuine outreach to its "born-again" base. Proving that believers are increasingly disenchanted with the Republican party, the Barna Group released its latest survey on voters' allegiance. According to the poll, if the election were held today, most born again voters would choose the Democratic nominee for president. Barna's research indicates that "born-again" voters are most likely to vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton (20 percent), followed by Sen. Barack Obama (18 percent), and Mike Huckabee (12 percent).

While the results are striking, it is important to note that Barna uses a broad definition for "born-again" voters. It includes people who make a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as their Savior and believe they will go to heaven when they die. Contrast that with the poll's definition of "Evangelical," which includes seven additional conditions such as believing in the accuracy of the Bible, God as the earth's Creator, eternal salvation through grace, and much more. Yet even among the "Evangelical" subset, the respondents may be firmly committed to "conservative ideals" but less committed to the Republican party. Although 56 percent of Evangelicals are registered Republicans, they indicate some discomfort with "the choices they have at hand" for president.

This is yet another indication that the GOP brand is in danger. On paper, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between the Republican and Democratic establishments. Both have deemphasized social issues and attempted to fill the void with big government approaches to poverty and global warming. Both are hoping to spend their way into Americans' hearts. But only one establishment can benefit from this agenda--and it isn't the GOP. The mission creep has already cost the Republicans their credibility and the congressional majority. (FRC Action)

Trivial Pursuit

"Where's the beef?" That's what one research company is asking about the media's latest election coverage. After its survey of 765 news stories from December to January, the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) confirmed what many Americans already suspected. The press is abandoning substantive policy discussions in favor of shallow reporting that is turning an historic election race into a congeniality contest. Only 20 percent of the most recent news stories have included concrete facts about the key issues at stake. The other stories, though largely positive in nature, have included little more than anecdotes about life on the campaign trail. Through features like the Washington Post's front- page "How They Look" column, readers have been trained to care more about what the candidates are wearing than what they stand for. Unfortunately, appearances can be deceiving, which is why voters want--and deserve--more than a cursory glance through candidates' credentials and policy goals. 1. STATE OF THE UNION: BUSH AGENDA RICH IN VALUES

An energized President Bush addressed both houses of Congress on Monday night in his final State of the Union address. The economy, immigration and the war on terror were prominent in his speech, but there was a lot for family advocates to take note of, as well.

Still high on the president's priority list is ethical stem- cell research. "I call on Congress to pass legislation that bans unethical practices such as the buying, selling, patenting or cloning of human life," Bush said.

The president also signaled he's spoiling for a fight on judicial nominees. "I've submitted judicial nominees who will rule by the letter of the law, not the whim of the gavel," he said. "Many of these nominees are being unfairly delayed; they are worthy of confirmation, and the Senate should give each of them a prompt up-or-down vote."

Bush hailed the success of his Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, and challenged Congress to make the office permanent. "What we'd like to do is pass legislation that would ensure permanence," said Jay Hein, director of the White House program. "It will be stronger and more sustainable if it's in legislation."

2. SENATE DEMOCRATS STALLING BIPARTISAN ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE

This week the Senate Finance Committee led by liberal Democrat Senators began putting obstacles in the way of bipartisan legislation sponsored by Democrat Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (CA,) and House Republican Leader John Boehner (OH,) -- wholeheartedly supported by President George W. Bush and the Senate Republican Leader, Mitch McConnell (KY) -- which will return some $150 billion to 117 American families and small businesses. Yesterday, the Senate Finance Committee agreed to a bloated liberal Democrat stimulus package by a vote of 14-7. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Bush/Pelosi/Boehner bipartisan economic package last week by a whopping 385-35.

Senator McConnell said, "The fact that there were 10 provisions added to the Baucus proposal before it was even considered in committee, coupled with three more amendments added in the committee, only reinforces my view that the way to prevent more delay in the effort to boost the economy is to pass the bipartisan House-passed bill and quickly send it to the President for his signature. The Baucus proposal has become yet another Christmas tree and will only grow and slow down when it reaches the Senate floor. We need to act now, and the way to do that is the bipartisan the bill that passed the House by an overwhelming, bipartisan margin."

This week the Bush Administration put out a statement: "The Administration strongly supports House passage of H.R. 5140, the bipartisan economic growth compromise, without amendment. This legislation meets the criteria set out by the Administration that an economic growth package be large enough to make a difference, immediate in its impact, broad-based, temporary, and based on tax relief rather than government spending programs. The Administration commends the House for taking swift, decisive bipartisan action to improve the Nation's near-term economic outlook."

· Offer prayer for a breakthrough in the Senate, so that this badly needed package can pass.

· "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" (Jer. 23:29)

3. S. 1780: PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM INDECENT PROGRAMMING ACT

This bill is desperately needed to help restore parents' ability to provide wholesome entertainment without indecent material invading their living room through the TV while their children are watching. During a recent interview on Good Morning America, actress Diane Keaton used the "f-word" at 8:00 in the morning. It is simply unacceptable to use this type of language on television, particularly at a time when millions of parents and children will be in the viewing audience.

The stakes on this issue could not be any clearer. If this legislation is not passed, the broadcast decency bill we all worked so hard to pass last year will have been for naught. Activist judges have nit-picked that law. This bill makes clear that the FCC can penalize single instances of indecency - yet Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) will not bring this bill to the Senate floor for a vote!

How can we get his attention? Everyone calling their legislators on a designated day!

Please call your Senators at 202-224-3121 on Tuesday, February 5, and urge them to ask Senators Reid and Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) to bring S. 1780 to a vote. (Concerned Women for America)

4. CLONING, EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH

The recent news that scientists have produced embryonic-like stem cells from skin cells - without killing embryos to produce them, was followed by news last week that a cloned human embryo was produced from a scientist's own skin cells. Oddly, says FRC's Senior Fellow for Life Sciences, Dr. David Prentice, "scientists probably are responsible for the media downplaying this unbelievable news." To accomplish this, female donors were hormonally stimulated to harvest dozens of immature human eggs from which 6-12 were used in the experiments. The results? No Embryonic stem cells were produced and all the embryos were destroyed. This unethical, inefficient, "non-therapeutic" cloning "instrumentalizes" human life, says Prentice. It increases the risk that someone will use the technique to bring clones to birth and increases risk to women's health (lots of eggs required). This kind of "research" has no benefit for patients and is useless compared to adult stem cell research which has produced scores of therapies that are helping thousands of patients right now. Also now, adult stem cells programmed to behave like embryonic stem cells can do everything that embryonic stem cells can, but are efficient, easy, cheap, and fundable. The good thing about this cloning event is that it could revive congressional debate over Sens. Sam Brownback (R- KS) and Mary Landrieu's (D-LA) bill to outlaw human cloning vs. Sen. Orin Hatch's bill to "protect" the practice.

· May Congress revive the cloning debate and may the American people, through their elected representatives, say "NO!" to all human cloning! May the truth about successful adult stem cell therapies, so obviously blessed by God, become common knowledge in America! May the failure of embryonic stem cell research, the tumors such research produced, the high cost in human life and disdain for human dignity and ethics that accompany it, similarly be understood in America and around the world!

· "Whosoever transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son." (11 John 1:9,10)

5. GAY ACTIVISTS WORK TO REPEAL "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL"

Homosexual activists are engaged in a push to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. In December, activists set up an exhibit of 12,000 American Flags on the National Mall to commemorate the 12,000 homosexual service members dismissed since "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was instituted. A recent '60 Minutes' TV program featured the effort, saying "more and more [military] commands are appreciating their lesbian and gay service members -- and retaining them despite the ban on their service. That sends a clear signal to Congress...the time has come to repeal the law." Congress rejected the pro- homosexual Hate Crimes bill as a rider to the Defense Authorization Bill, but Sen. Ted Kennedy (D- MA) promises to raise the bill again this year. The pro- homosexual ENDA will also be on the agenda this year .

· Continue to pray that the American people will truly understand the consequences of open homosexuality in the military, ENDA and Hate Crimes and that their representatives in Washington will firmly reject all three. May the next president be someone who will veto any and all of these measures!

· "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light." (Eph. 5:11-13)

6. NEXT: SUPER TUESDAY

Florida's January 29 Primary election promises to be a close, four way race among Republicans and a face off between the two front running Democrats. While Florida is key to identifying the leaders from both parties, "Super-Duper Tuesday" will be the watershed for the campaigns that have survived so far. On that day, February 5th, 24 states will conduct elections or caucuses. Remember, primary voters will vote, not just for President, but for nearly every elected public office, federal, state and local, from president to dog- catcher. · May God raise up a praying army to impact the outcome of these elections for His purposes, honor and glory. Let us thank God for intervening in past elections and pray He will do it again! May God fearing men and women be elected in these primaries! May voters find a slate of candidates in November whose service will be pleasing to God and who will draw us closer to Him as a nation!

I can feel the enemy trying to go through the system in the States to deviate it from within for his purposes. I can see it clear through all the lies that are released during the speeches. I can sense the darkness in many of the interviews that happened. I pray for awakening for the Americans, otherwise it would be too late. It needs prophetic intercession to say in authority "No For All the plans of the enemy". Under the cover of His Blood we pray for "His Will To Be Done."

Super-Tuesday is a very important day where 24 states, including the influential ones will give their voice on who will be the candidate on both sides. It's an important step in the presidential race. I feel a warning & I pray for the release of intercessors who take it seriously praying for that election starting with the Super-Tuesday.

7. RESOLUTION IN UTAH FIGHTS NORTH AMERICAN UNION
URGES U.S. TO WITHDRAW FROM SECURITY AND PROSPERITY PARTNERSHIP

A state lawmaker in Utah has introduced a resolution encouraging the U.S. to withdraw from the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America and any other bilateral activity that would move the country toward an EU-style continental merger.

Republican state Rep. Stephen Sandstrom introduced House Resolution 1 to the Utah legislature this week after a similar measure passed the House last year by a 47-24 vote but was blocked by a Senate committee just before the session's close. The resolution reads in part: "The gradual creation of such a North American Union from a merger of the United States, Mexico and Canada would be a direct threat to the United States Constitution and the national independence of the United States and would imply an eventual end to national borders within North America."

According to tabulation on StopTheNau.org, 13 states have now passed similar resolutions opposing the SPP and the movement toward a future North American Union. Utah is among six states considering a resolution against the SPP. Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) has introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives a resolution expressing congressional opposition to construction of a NAFTA super highway system or entry into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada. · Please pray that all states will join in this opposition to the NAU and the superhighway planned to cross the USA from Mexico to Canada. God gave us this country, and it is not ours to give away or to be used to fill the pockets and ambitions of powerful men. The Lord is the uniter and healer of our nation, not politicians. Pray for all the legislators, whether state or federal, who see the danger of the NAU and have the courage to stop its growth.

· "Have we not one Father? Hath not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?" (Malachi 2:10)

8. IRAQ READY FOR "FINAL" BATTLE WITH AL QAEDA

Iraqi security forces have begun a "decisive" final offensive against al Qaeda in Iraq to push the Sunni Islamist militants out of their last major stronghold in the north, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said last Friday. U.S. military commanders say al Qaeda, blamed for most big bombings in Iraq, has regrouped in the northern provinces after being squeezed out of western Anbar province and from around Baghdad during security crackdowns last year. They describe Mosul, capital of Nineveh province, as al Qaeda's last major urban stronghold in Iraq. (Reuters 1/25/08)

· Intercede for all troops deployed and for their families - for protection, good health and morale. Pray that wisdom and strategy be granted to U.S. commanders in Iraq. Intercede for Iraqi President Jalal Talabani (Kurdish), Prime Minister Nouri al- Maliki (Shiite Muslim), the Parliament, and all officials- that a form of good government that is representative of all Iraqi socio-religious ethnic groups be established and maintained. Intercede for all Christians and churches in Iraq.

9. 200 KENYAN CHILDREN PRAY FOR THEIR COUNTRY WITH MIRACULOUS RESULTS

In the latest edition of Missions Catalyst, Sue Sprenkle, an overseas correspondent for the International Mission Board, who has been reporting from Africa for 10 years describes a scene inside the small, tin shack of a Baptist church filled with children. "After three weeks of post-election violence, it's good to hear the sounds of children laughing and playing-especially in the hard-hit slums of Nairobi," she says. "My heart overflows with emotion as I hear a sound even more precious than laughter-a child's sweet, innocent prayer."

For the last two weeks, Sprenkle says, children in this small slum area have gathered to pray for their country. "The church's pastor says the children started gathering on their own, so he let them in the church. The daily prayer meeting now attracts more than 200 children ranging in age from three to 17."

Ever since the children started praying together, the pastor says there have been no deaths, houses burned or even violence in their section of this slum. Adults recite this fact in amazement. The children, however, don't even mention it because it's exactly what they expected to happen. (Assist News)

We thank you for revealing to us how precious they are to You, and we thank You for not only hearing, but answering their prayers. We pray that You would look at their innocence and grant their requests for peace, protection, love, and an end to the violence. You are good to honor the statement of the little girl that said "See," seven-year-old Natasha whistles through her missing two front teeth, "God answers prayers."

· "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you . . . become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3-4)

10. BARAK OBAMA SUPPORTS PALESTINIAN STATE CUTTING ISRAEL IN HALF

Democratic Presidential candidate Barak Obama said he supported the division of Israel into at least two parts by a Palestinian state. The stunning comment came as Obama struggled to articulate his stance on key Mideast issues in dispute. "The right of return [to Israel] is something that is not an option in a literal sense," Obama said, but then went on to say that "The Palestinians have a legitimate concern that a state have a contiguous coherent mass that would allow the state to function effectively."

A land corridor between Gaza and the West Bank would effectively cut Israel in half, making it incoherent and non-contiguous, divided into northern and southern portions by the Palestinian land-mass Obama supports. The Democratic candidate didn't explain why it was legitimate for the Palestinians to have a coherent and contiguous territory at Israel's expense.

Regarding Iran, he saw no harm in engaging in talks with the Iranian regime. " We are not looking to impede Iran's legitimate national aspirations, but they have to change their behavior." Iranian national aspirations, as articulated by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, include wiping Israel off the face of the earth. · Offer praise to the Lord that various candidates' views on Israeli policy are coming to light at this time. PRAY FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE -- THAT THEY BE GIVEN THE WISDOM TO SUPPORT CANDIDATES WHO WILL NOT DIVIDE THE LAND. And if none has appeared yet with that intention, pray he or she will appear soon!

· I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land. (Joel 3:2)

11. WINOGRAD NOTES LEBANON WAR FAILURES BUT ABSOLVES OLMERT

Providing material for both sides of the political aisle the evening of January 30, the Winograd Commission's final report on the handling of the second Lebanon War avoided, as expected, any personal recommendations, and ultimately absolved Prime Minister Ehud Olmert from improper motives regarding the ground attack in the final hours of the conflict. The situation sets up a crucial waiting period as Labor party leader Ehud Barak decides whether or not to pull out of the government and force new elections. Although the report was not condemning, it did call the war a "serious missed opportunity" and portrayed Israel as failing to take advantage of a situation in which they were clearly superior militarily. In addition, the political echelon was cited repeatedly along with the military for strategic and planning mistakes.

Meanwhile, apparently drawing on the repeated statements of failure for both the military and political echelons, including the government's failing to define Israel's overall strategy in the conflict or an exit strategy, the opposition Likud party said in a statement that Olmert must take personal responsibility and resign, and Barak must keep his campaign promise to quit the government. · Pray that the current volatility within the Israeli government will lead to accountability and responsibility by elected officials. Pray that this present debate will provide the wisdom and honesty needed in those who govern the people.

· "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)

12. ISRAEL SUSPECTS IRAN HAS CLANDESTINE URANIUM ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Iran is not threatening Israel and does not want nuclear weapons, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said January 26. Speaking to Israel Radio on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Iranian Foreign Minister Manoucheher Mottaki said that it was Israel that possessed nuclear weapons and are "threatening Teheran." Iran, said Mottaki did not recognize two countries South Africa and Israel. However with the end of apartheid in South Africa the problem was solved and in Israel's case there is no reason why relations cannot change when it changes its policy he said.

Meanwhile, in an interview to the Washington Post published Saturday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Israel believes Iran has a clandestine uranium enrichment program beyond the one in Natanz and suspects that it is already working on warheads for ground-to-ground missiles. Barak said Israel believes "the Iranians are aiming at nuclear capability," even though "they may have slowed down the weapons [development] in 2003, because it was at the height of the American military campaign [in Iraq]."

Barak also spoke of the fledgling Middle East peace process, saying Israel was willing to reach an accord but was not sure of the Palestinian Authority's ability to implement one. "There has never been a shortage of goodwill on Israel's side. [PA President Mahmoud Abbas [Abu Mazen] and Prime Minister Salaam Fayad] are both willing and ready, but there is a great question mark as to whether they are able. 13. BUSH ANNOUNCES PLO STATE IN '08

President Bush, in his State of the Union address on Monday night, announced his plan to have a PLO State by the end '08. This new state would take Judea and Samaria from Israel and proclaim East Jerusalem as its new capital, the home to all Christian holy sites.

There have been over 20,000 attempted terrorist attacks by the PLO. The State Department is already in Jerusalem pushing forward the Road Map to Peace plan. U.S. Lt.-Gen. William Fraser, the new Road Map implementation monitor, arrived Sunday for an intensive round of meetings with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders. His goal is to push Israel further into implementation this peace plan.

This is a battle between lightness and darkness, between politics and prophecy. 128,000 votes have already been cast. Our present goal is 200,000 on our way to a million. We are asking everyone to pray and get one friend to sign the petition. If you do so, we can reach 200,000.

Ray Bringham: Long Time Prayer Warrior in God's Presence!

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners has received word of the passing into glory of our brother, Ray Bringham. Ray lived a long life. It was a life devoted to the Lord and to mobilizing prayer on behalf of the Kingdom of God . He had a passion to see revival and especially for the latter part of his life, he led the Lord's people into times of deep repentance. Please keep his family in your prayers as they deal with this loss in their lives.
