News on the Hill

Thank you for joining us as we pray together over these issues that are being addressed today on Capitol Hill, as the Spirit leads.

"The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)

1. How and When Will House Defund Planned Parenthood? Ryan: 'Legislation Will Be In Our Reconciliation Bill' - cnsnews.com

When asked how and when the Republican-controlled House of Representatives would pass legislation to defund Planned Parenthood, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) said "Planned Parenthood legislation will be in our reconciliation bill," but provided no further information. (Read more)

2. House Passes New Rules Enhancing Its Constitutional 'Power of the Purse' - cnsnews.com

The House of Representatives adopted changes to the chamber's standing rules on Tuesday that "enhance the House's ability to exercise its 'power of the purse'," according to House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA).

The vote was 234 to 193 along party lines, with three Republicans siding with Democrats against the rule changes, which include a restoration of the Holman Rule during the first session of the 115th Congress. (Read more)

3. Paul Ryan: Russia Didn't Put the Server in Hillary Clinton's Basement - cnsnews.com

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Thursday that while Russia "clearly tried to meddle in our political system," they did not put the server in Hillary Clinton's basement or tell her not to campaign in Wisconsin or Michigan. "Russia clearly tried to meddle in our political system. No two ways about it," Ryan said when asked if he doubted the intelligence community's assessment that Russia meddled in the presidential election.

"Let me say a couple of things. First of all, and I think this is what the president-elect is legitimately upset about. There are attempts on the left to try to delegitimize this election. That's just bogus. He won fair and square. He won clearly and convincingly. Russia didn't tell Hillary Clinton not to go to Wisconsin or Michigan. They didn't put the server in her basement or put the stuff on Anthony Weiner's laptop," Ryan said. (Read more)

4. DNI Clapper: Russians Did Not Change Any Vote Tallies in U.S. Elections - cnsnews.com

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper admitted to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that the Russians did not alter vote counts in the U.S. election.

"They did not change any vote tallies or anything of that sort," Clapper said under questioning from Chairman John McCain (R.-Ariz.)

Clapper further implicitly conceded that whatever the Russians might have done in making Democratic National Committee emails available to the public, the outcome of the U.S. presidential election nonetheless reflected "the choices" of American voters. (Read more)

5. GOP senators present bill to move US Embassy to Jerusalem - israelhayom.com

Three Republican senators on Tuesday introduced legislation that would move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a break from previous U.S. policy that would effectively recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The U.S. Embassy, like virtually all other foreign embassies in Israel, is located in Tel Aviv. During his 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump pledged to move the embassy to Jerusalem, a promise his top aides have said he plans to fulfill after he takes office on Jan. 20.

According to Fox News, Senators Ted Cruz (Texas), Marco Rubio (Florida) and Dean Heller (Nevada) presented the "Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act" shortly after the 115th United States Congress was sworn in. (Read more)

- Father, we do thank you for these three senators who have now introduced this bill in Congress. We pray for favor for this bill, and for its swift passage in both the Senate and the House. We thank you, Lord, that Donald Trump has promised to sign this bill into law when he assumes the office of the President of the United States. In Your name, amen.

". . . he who began a good work in you will continue it until the coming of Christ Jesus." (Phil. 1:6)

6. With one bill, Republicans fast track plan to undo Obama regulations - Reuters

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday giving Congress the power to kill dozens of recently enacted rules in one fell swoop, as Republicans charged ahead on their campaign to strip down federal regulations. It was the second time the Republican-dominated chamber took up legislation blocking "midnight rules," those rolled out at the close of a president's term. But the previous bill, introduced in November, had faced a certain veto from President Barack Obama, a Democrat. On its second day back in session, the House passed the bill on a vote of 238 to 184. The Senate is expected to soon consider companion legislation, which could face a harder time because it would need eight votes from Democrats. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for a quick and complete rollback of unnecessary and burdensome regulations. Set our people free!

- " . . . they were not afraid of the king's edict." (Hebrews 11:23b)

7. GOP blunder on ethics office should start proper reform debate - Washington Examiner

House Republicans were guilty of political malpractice Monday night when they tried to change the way the Office of Congressional Ethics will operate in the 115th Congress. But they are to blame not because the OCE works well or is a good thing. It doesn't and it isn't. It needs reform, and it would not be wrong to abolish it.

What made the GOP move culpable was, rather, that it was done semi-secretly, near midnight, on a public holiday. This naturally raised a storm of protest and, in the clear daylight of Tuesday, Republicans scrapped their plans. We applaud that decision and suggest that when the party gets around to reforming the ethics process, which is necessary, it does so with plenty of open public discussion first. (Read more)

8. Donald Trump Plans Revamp of Top U.S. Spy Agency - Wall Street Journal

President-elect Donald Trump, a harsh critic of U.S. intelligence agencies, is working with top advisers on a plan that would restructure and pare back the nation's top spy agency, people familiar with the planning said. The move is prompted by his belief that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has become bloated and politicized, these people said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray these agencies would truly work for the benefit of the American people and not be manipulated by our political parties. We pray for accuracy and integrity throughout our intelligence agencies. We pray, too, for wisdom for the various congressional committees who will have to approve and then fund this restructuring of the Office of the DNI, in Your name, amen.

- "May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you." (Psalm 25:21)

9. Trump to tap Coats for National Intelligence Director: reports - The Hill

Trump will name former Indiana Sen. Dan Coats to lead the nation's sprawling intelligence community, according to multiple reports Thursday.

The news comes as rumors swirl that Trump is weighing dismantling the very agency he has reportedly tapped Coats to lead, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that Your favor would rest upon Former Senator Daniel Coats as he goes before the Senate Intelligence Committee to be approved for this position. Thank You, Lord, this fine man has been chosen to fill this key position in our government. Amen.

- "Ask, and ye shall receive . . ." (Matthew 7:7)

10. URGENT: House vote today on Israel resolution - Liberty Counsel

Breaking news, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote later today on a resolution that calls on the Obama administration to veto any further anti-Israel UN measures.

When President Obama directed the U.S. Ambassador to allow a UN committee to pass an anti-Israel resolution, he betrayed Israel and America.

The newly-passed UN resolution demands Israel "immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem." The enemies of Israel will promptly use it to ratchet up world pressure on Israel, embolden terrorists, and encourage violence and bloodshed in the Middle East.

Secretary of State John Kerry then made matters worse in a major speech when he obsessed for over an hour against Israeli settlements.

- Pray for passage of this resolution - in both the Senate and in the House - NOW.

- "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13)

2. Haifa shootings were likely terror attack, police assess - Times of Israel

Two separate shootings in Haifa on Tuesday, in which one person was killed and another injured, may have been part of the same terror attack, according to growing assessments by police who launched a manhunt for the perpetrator on Wednesday.

Yehiel Iluz, 48, a senior judge on a Haifa rabbinic court for conversion, was moderately wounded in the first shooting on the city's Haatzma'ut Road on Tuesday. Some 30 minutes later, Guy Kafri, 47, a van driver from Haifa's Nesher neighborhood, was shot and killed on nearby Hagiborim Street.

First reports indicated a case of mistaken identity in a possible gangland shooting, but as the investigation went on, police increasingly began to suspect it was a terror attack. A gag order was placed on the investigation Tuesday and few details were made available to the press.

3. Hikers discover ancient menorah, cross etchings in Israel - Fox News

It's rare when Hanukkah and Christmas arrive on the same day, as they did in 2016. But what three Israeli hikers discovered during the holidays made the coincidence truly remarkable.

The hikers, members of the Israel Caving Club, were exploring a water cistern in the Judean Shephelah, located in the lowland region of South-Central Israel, when they found a seven-branched menorah and a cross etched into the same wall.

"We heard there are interesting caves in the region," said Ido Meroz. "We began to peer into them, and that's how we came to this cave, which is extremely impressive with rock-carved niches and engravings on the wall.

A majority of Israeli citizens do not agree with the verdict of the military court convicting Sgt. Elor Azariya for the shooting of a wounded terrorist in Hevron and want him to be pardoned, according to a survey by Channel 2.

51% of respondents said that they do not agree with the verdict, compared with only 36% who do agree with the verdict. There was an even greater disparity between those who want Azariya to be pardoned following the verdict and those who do not. 67% of respondents supported granting Azariya a pardon so he can return to his family, compared to only 19% who did not support a pardon for Azariya.

6. Huckabee: two-state solution a 'stupid diplomatic fantasy' - israelnationalnews.com

Former Arkansas Governor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee met with a delegation of rabbis from the Rabbinical Congress for Peace movement. The rabbis wished to present to him the Torah's view regarding the holy land and the prohibition against relinquishing land to foreigners.

The Rabbinical Congress for Peace was founded in 1993 in order to alert public attention to the clear position of the Torah concerning territories under Israeli rule. This halahic ruling is anchored in the supreme value in Jewish Law known as "the sanctity of life." Saving a life supersedes the entire Torah. Because of this value, the Torah unequivocally forbids relinquishing even one inch of territory under Jewish rule or participating in any negotiations concerning withdrawal from any such territory.

The head of the Congress, Rabbi Yosef Gerlitzky presented to Huckabee the famous halahic ruling signed by 400 rabbis which prohibits negotiations over parts of the land of Israel and views these negotiations as a danger to residents of Israel. The ruling and signatures were translated into English and Huckabee showed interest in the Torah's view on the matter. (Read more)

7. Biblical Origins of the 70-Nation Anti-Israel Paris Conference - Breaking Israel News

High ranking officials from 70 nations of the world will gather in Paris on January 15th in an attempt to force Israel to accept a two-state solution with the Palestinian Authority. By so doing, they will be fulfilling a momentous Biblical prophecy foretold thousands of years ago.

"Everyone knows already what the purpose of the conference is: it will be an all-out hatefest against Israel," Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman, director of Ohr Chadash Torah Institute, told Breaking Israel News. "What's interesting is that it isn't just one or two enemies with a specific grudge, like the Arabs or the Nazis. It is 70 nations, which in Torah terms, means all of the nations," explained Rabbi Trugman. (Read more)

"They have said: 'Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Yisrael may be no more in remembrance.' For they have consulted together with one consent; against Thee do they make a covenant." (Psalms 83:5-6)

1. US Special Forces deployed at Russian border to defend Baltic states 'scared' by Vladimir Putin - The Telegraph UK

US Special Forces have been deployed close to the border with Russia as part of a "persistent" presence of American troops in the Baltics.

Dozens of special ops solders are being stationed along Europe's eastern flank to reassure Nato allies Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

The move will also allow the US to monitor Russian manoeuvres amid fears of further destabilisation following its annexation of Crimea in 2014.

General Raymond Thomas, head of the Pentagon's Special Operations Command, said the Baltic states were "desperate" for America's help in deterring potential Russian aggression. (Read more)

- Father, there are some who would say that Crimea belongs to Russia, and hence is rejoining its parent nation. Nevertheless, now that we see our own "boots on the ground" in this region, we ask that You would protect our men in uniform, strengthen them, and give them skill for the task they have been given to do. In Your name, amen.

- "For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways." (Psalm 91:11)

2. Ford cancels plans for $1.6 billion Mexico plant, to add 700 jobs in Detroit - Marketwatch

Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it is scrapping plans for a new $1.6 billion assembly plant in Mexico, instead choosing to build small cars in an existing Mexican factory, and invest $700 million in a Michigan facility that will build electric vehicles.

The move is a surprising turnaround for Ford F, +4.61% after facing criticism by President-elect Donald Trump for more than a year in relation to its Mexico plan. Last month, Chief Executive Mark Fields said it was looking to work with the incoming administration on Trump's trade agenda, but indicated it was too late to change its specific plan to build a new factory in Mexico. - "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)

4. As opioid epidemic worsens, the cost of waking up from an overdose soars - CNBC

It's an epidemic playing out across America as prescription painkillers lead to addiction, and their price on the street often causes people to turn to heroin. In 2015, for the first time, the number of deaths from heroin overdoses in the U.S. surpassed those from gun homicides, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In total, more than 33,000 people in the U.S. died from opioid overdoses. (Read more)

- Lord, we come with burdened hearts for those caught in the web of addiction. We pray for the restoration of lives and families. May they know You and power of Your resurrection!

5. Knife-wielding man wounds 11 children in south China - Reuters

A man in China's southern region of Guangxi wounded 11 children with a blade at their kindergarten on Wednesday, state television said, in the country's latest mass knifing incident. Violent crime is rare in China, compared to many other countries, but there has been a series of knife and axe attacks in recent years, many targeting children.

China Central Television said in a post on its official microblog that a man climbed the wall of the kindergarten in the city of Pingxiang and attacked the students. All of the wounded children had been sent to the hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening, CCTV said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for these precious little ones to be completely healed. We pray the families would seek you for comfort and healing.

6. Does Kim Jong-un have a 'guilty conscience'? North Korean dictator's hint of remorse in New Year's speech stuns analysts - The Telegraph

Hints of remorse at Kim Jong-un's personal failings in his New Year's speech to the North Korean people have caught watchers of the regime off-guard. Analysts have suggested that the North Korean leader was attempting to demonstrate humility and to come across as a benevolent leader who has the best interests of his people at heart. (Read more)

- Father, Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. Together we ask for the nation of North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong-un to become a righteous inheritance, saved and set free by the blood of the Lamb.

7. Here Are the Events Planned to Protest Trump's Inauguration - TIME

Organizers have planned several events and protests across the U.S. ahead of Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on Jan. 20. From the Women's March on Washington to pro-marijuana activists giving out free joints, people are ready to mobilize on the days of and surrounding Trump officially taking the office.

The largest demonstration related to the inauguration is the Women's March, which expects 200,000 people to attend in Washington D.C. on Jan. 21, the day after the inauguration. Labeled as a "Gathering for Justice," the march invites people to "come together in solidarity to express to the new administration & congress that women's rights are human rights and our power cannot be ignored," according to a National Park Service list of First Amendment permit applications.

For those not in D.C., other U.S. cities have planned affiliate marches. Among several locations, Women's Marches will take place in San Francisco and New York City. The movement has also gone global, with demonstrations planned in Canada and London. (Read more)

- Father God, another hallmark of this very unusual election is the appearance of these planned protests, both here and across the nation. We thank You that we do live in a country where our freedom of speech is protected, so we do not deny these citizens their right to protest. We ask, Lord, that there be NO violent uprisings and, if so, that law enforcement officers will deal with this danger with skill, wisdom and grace. We ask for a peaceful inauguration this year in Washington, D.C. and in every city in America. In Your name, amen.

- "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21)

8. ALERT!! Over 2,400 Progressive Faith Leaders Want Trump Meeting to Counter 'So-Called White Evangelicals' - christianpost.com

A group of more than 2,400 progressive faith leaders have signed on to an open letter demanding a meeting with president-elect Donald Trump in the hopes of having him advance a "moral agenda." In an open letter created by the group Repairers of the Breach, the interfaith coalition asked that Trump meet with them prior to his inauguration.

"Since your election, our communities have been fractured by harassment and intimidation. People of color and religious minorities are afraid. Poor working people who you appealed to in your campaign are disappointed that you have attacked their union leaders while appointing Wall Street elites who use them to your Cabinet," stated the open letter. "And while we know no human being is perfect, we wish to speak with you about these moral issues because far too much is at stake for you to succumb to your worst demons while in public office."

Signatories of the open letter include the Rev. James Forbes, president of the Healing of the Nations Ministries; the Rev. Traci Blackmon, acting executive minister for the United Church of Christ's Justice and Witness Ministries; the Rev. Katharine Henderson, president of Auburn Seminary; Imam Tahir Kukiqi of the Albanian Islamic Cultural Center of New York City; and Lisa Sharon Harper, chief church engagement officer with the progressive evangelical group Sojourners. (Read more)

- Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. These misguided men and women have twisted the Scriptures to fit their own agenda, rather than allowing the Word to set them free to worship You in Spirit and in truth. Help us, O Lord, we pray in Your name, amen.

- "All day long they distort my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil." (Psalm 56:5)

The acerbic occupant

The occupant of the Oval Office appears as if he is doing everything he can to undermine President-elect Donald Trump. The media has reported that the "president" has established a presidential record by on creating federal regulations and red tape that will cost the American taxpayer over a trillion dollars. He has also presided over record illegal immigration and "refugee" resettlement from terrorist sponsoring states. He has created diplomatic and foreign policy crisis with his reckless treatment of Israel and harassment of Russia. He has said that if he had a third term he would have won the election, and he is moving down the street to continue living in Washington, DC. A shadow government in the making.

During the presidential debate, Trump said that he would wait and see when asked if he would accept the results of the election if he lost. His opponent Hillary Clinton said this was a threat to our democracy. The "president" said Trump's remarks were dangerous and undermines "our democracy." The liberal talking heads in the media echoed the comments saying that such a remark undermines democracy, threatens the newly elected president, and makes way for a shadow government that questions the very legitimacy of the president. So far, this has been the game plan of the Democratic Party-their leadership has challenged the results of the election, called into question Trump's legitimacy, and it appears they are establishing a shadow government with the lame duck "president" as the ringleader.

No question that the lame duck occupant of the Oval Office is attempting to undermine the presidency of Donald Trump before he even takes office. The regulations, the immigration policy and the diplomatic crisis are all issues that will have an immediate impact on the new president and will require incredible manpower to undo. And the lame duck "president" has stated repeatedly that he will be quiet for a time-which remains undetermined-then he will speak out on the Trump policies. Given that he has purchased a home in an expensive DC neighborhood, he has thrown the gauntlet down that we have not seen the last of his "presidency."

He has broken presidential protocol, deciding that his legacy must continue whether the American people rejected it or not. What this really could be is the aftermath of an incredible coup against the US government. He said he would remake America and left the people to decide what that meant. But he seems to have meant that America would become a revolutionary new Marxist Islamic regime. Everything was going according to schedule until Trump defeated Clinton. Now he and his cabal must scramble to continue or complete the revolution. They are doing exactly what they accused Trump of doing. Beware and stand strong for as it is written in Isaiah 59:7, "Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Classic Hymns:

GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU

"Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you." (Psalm 55:22)

Lyrics

Be not dismayed whate'er betide, God will take care of you! Beneath His wings of love abide, God will take care of you!

Refrain:

God will take care of you, Through every day o'er all the way; He will take care of you; God will take care of you!

Through days of toil when heart doth fail, God will take care of you! When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you! 3

All you may need He will provide, God will take care of you! Trust Him, and you will be satisfied, God will take care of you!

Lonely and sad, from friends apart, God will take care of you! He will give peace to your aching heart, God will take care of you! 5 No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you! Lean, weary one, upon His breast, God will take care of you!

NASA spots mysterious objects hurtling towards Earth

NASA recently spotted two massive space objects hurtling towards Earth.

While the American space agency has pinpointed one as a comet, the other has left it slightly more baffled.

The comet is set to fly close to Earth this week, but the mystery object isn't expected to make an appearance until February.

"2016 WF9 could have cometary origins," said Deputy Principal Investigator James "Gerbs" Bauer at NASA's JPL. "This object illustrates that the boundary between asteroids and comets is a blurry one; perhaps over time this object has lost the majority of the volatiles that linger on or just under its surface."
While 2016 WF9 is dark like a comet, it appears to lack the characteristic dust and gas cloud that defines a comet.

On 25 February, 2017 WF9 will approach Earth's orbit at a distance of nearly 32 million miles (51 million kilometres) from our home planet.

NASA said that the object is "not a threat to Earth for the foreseeable future".

Meanwhile, the other object, which has been firmly classified as a comet could be visible this week.

The comet, C/2016 U1 NEOWISE, "has a good chance of becoming visible through a good pair of binoculars, although we can't be sure because a comet's brightness is notoriously unpredictable," said Paul Chodas, manager of NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object (NEO) Studies at JPL.

Those in the northern hemisphere may be able to spot the comet in the southeastern sky shortly before dawn this week. (Mirror Co. UK) Read more here.

"In Jesus Name!" How This Man Miraculously Saved a Girl From Her Burning Car

(San Antonio, TX)-[CBN News] It's being called a miracle. A San Antonio woman was pulled free from her burning vehicle last Friday morning.

Scot Love saved the 22-year-old girl, named Mishelle, after hearing her car crash nearby.

He claims that the three words that saved her were, "In Jesus' Name."

Love visits the area of San Antonio twice a year from North Carolina to manage a fireworks stand. He had just laid down his recreational vehicle after 1 a.m. on Friday when he heard noises coming from outside that made him jump.

"I hear that all too familiar sound of like a pop, crash and a vehicle getting crunched," Love said.

When he saw the car on fire off Highway 281 and Summerglen Way he immediately went to help another woman pull the driver out.

"The front of the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames and the fuel had sprayed across so that you couldn't get to the driver's side door," Love said. "Every time she opened the door you could hear the girl inside screaming."

PrayerSurgeNow: Updates

Our good friend, Dai Sup Han, raised up PrayerSurgeNow at the leading of our Lord, nine years ago. Ever since then, "PSN" has hosted weekly conference calls every Saturday morning from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. EST, with speakers who provide briefings to the Body of Christ of different topics needing prayer.
PSN also offers other opportunities now, throughout the week each week, to join with other seasoned intercessors in releasing targeted prayers for our nation.
For news of PSN's weekly agendas, please visit their website by going to: prayersurgenow.blogspot.com, or by going here.
