4. Today's Prayer for the First One Hundred Days
Jan 31st - Pray our Courts will Defend Religious Liberty! [excerpt]
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1; KJV);
"Stand and Pray!" (Ephesians 6:13-18; KJV)
Pres. Donald Trump will repeal executive orders and bureaucratic regulation that are hostile to religious liberty, like the measure used to sue the Little Sisters of the Poor who refused to purchase insurance for their employees that included abortifacient contraceptive drugs. But the enemies of Christianity and public expressions of faith will continue to use the Courts so long as there are sympathetic justices and judges who do not value religious liberty - it will take two new pro-liberty SCOTUS justices to turn the tide. For some of the Federal Courts, many far left judges will have to retire to make way for God-fearing pro-liberty judges, before Christians will be safe to practice their faith without threat from employers, and local and state sexual orientation, gender identity (SOGI) and other laws that prohibit Christian businesses, employers, Christian 501C3 organizations, and even churches, from practicing their faith cross current to the LGBT agenda. Candidate Clinton, speaking to Planned Parenthood in August said that abortion rights laws "have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed."
Prayer Points:
- Thank the Lord for stirring Americans and especially Christians, to push back in November's Election against the tide of anti-faith government discrimination.
- Pray for President Trump and his advisors and appointees, that they will work with Congress to pass laws that stop anti-religious discrimination and bleeding caused by the previous administration, state and local laws and ordinances.
- Pray that the American people will be delivered from their biases favoring sexual activism over religious liberty and that anti-religious secularism will cease to be advanced in our public schools and colleges.
- Ask God to spur activist judges to retire. May He guide the Trump Team to weigh Religious Liberty heavily in choosing every future SCOTUS Justice and federal judge. In Jesus' Name!

1. Netanyahu and Trump to meet on February 15 - Jerusalem Post
US President Donald Trump is slated to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 15 for talks that are expected to cover a range of security issues.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer, in announcing the meeting, said, "our relationship with the only democracy in the Middle East is crucial to the security of both our nations, and the president looks forward to discussing continued strategic, technological, military and intelligence cooperation with the prime minister."
Netanyahu then issued a statement saying he "deeply appreciated" Trump's "kind invitation" and the warm words about Israel.
"I look forward to discussing with him the areas of cooperation between us that are so vital to the security and well-being of our two countries," he said. (Read more)
2. Hamas rewriting charter without anti-Semitism, claims official, but still rejects Israel - Times of Israel
A senior Hamas official said on Wednesday that the terror group, which rules the Gaza Strip, is rewriting its charter in a way that will remove its anti-Semitic language, but also made plain the group's ongoing rejection of the Jews' right to statehood in Israel.
The charter, written in 1988, contains a cocktail of Nazi, communist and Islamist anti-Semitic tropes and conspiracy theories, including that Jews were behind the French and Russian revolutions and the two world wars, that they control the media and the UN, that they infiltrated the Freemasons and that they funded colonialism with their wealth.
"We will have a clear political document, which is supposed to be in the near future, clarifying all those points," the official, Osama Hamdan, told Al-Jazeera on Wednesday. (Read more)
3. 'Now is the time to annex Judea and Samaria' - Israel National News
Advocates for the Land of Israel are lobbying the Likud party ahead of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's February trip to Washington DC to meet with newly inaugurated President Donald J. Trump.
Activists from the Women In Green, a pro-Israel organization which supports the application of Israeli law over Judea and Samaria, canvassed among lawmakers and party leaders at this week's conference of Likud members in Eilat, dubbed the "Likudiada".
Women in Green co-chair Nadia Matar spoke with Arutz Sheva at the Likudiada regarding the Prime Minister's upcoming trip to Washington, and the growing movement to apply Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. (Read more)
4. Palestinians see US reconsidering Israel embassy pledge, says PLO official - Jerusalem Post
The United States has not formally told Palestinian leadership of any plans not to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a senior Palestinian official said on Wednesday.
The comment came in response to a report Wednesday morning in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, a pan-Arab newspaper, that the White House had informed Palestinian leadership that US President Donald Trump no longer planned to move the US's diplomatic headquarters in Israel "at this stage."
"We have not received reassurances in writing or orally from the US that it does not plan to move the embassy," Wasel Abu Yousif, a PLO Executive Committee member, told The Jerusalem Post.
Abu Yousif clarified that the Palestinian leadership believes that Trump is actively reconsidering the possibility of relocating the embassy. (Read more)
5. Trump: 'Two sides' to issue of moving embassy to Jerusalem, 'not easy' - World Israel News
US President Donald Trump said that it's certainly possible that he will follow through on his plan to move the US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in an interview over the weekend with CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network).
"There's certainly a chance of it, absolutely," Trump said when asked about the move. "I've always liked the concept of doing it, I'll tell you that."
He also acknowledged that Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama did not answer the call in the Jerusalem Embassy Act, passed by Congress in 1995, to have the US embassy in Tel Aviv moved to Jerusalem. The bill allows the president to sign a waiver every six months for "national security interests," which indefinitely postpones the move. (Read more)
6. Meet the top Jewish officials in the Trump Administration - Jerusalem Post
American Jews are watching the beginning of Donald Trump's presidency with both fear and hope. Many have expressed worries about some of his supporters' ties to the so-called "alt-right" movement, whose followers traffic variously in white nationalism, anti-immigration sentiment, anti-Semitism and a disdain for "political correctness." Those fears intensified when Trump named as his chief strategist Stephen Bannon, the former chairman of Breitbart News, a site Bannon once referred to as a "platform" of the alt-right. Trump's strongly conservative Cabinet picks also back policies on health care, the environment, abortion and civil rights often diametrically opposed to the views of most Jewish voters.
Yet others have praised Trump's stance on Israel and his nomination of David Friedman, a bankruptcy lawyer who supports West Bank settlement construction and has expressed doubts about the two-state solution, as US ambassador to Israel. Trump won 24% of the Jewish vote, with especially strong support in the Orthodox community.
Here is a look at the president's Jewish advisers who will be helping to shape US policy for the next four years. (Read more)
7. Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner Host D.C. Bigwigs for First Shabbat Dinner at Home - Breaking Israel News
On Friday, Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner hosted several of President Trump's Cabinet members at the couple's first Shabbat dinner in their new Washington, D.C. home.
Last Friday, the couple was busy celebrating Trump's inauguration, making January 27 the first Shabbat evening the family spent at home. They marked the occasion by inviting an impressive group of advisors and cabinet members, including Trump's Department of the Treasury pick Steve Mnuchin, Department of Commerce nominee Wilbur Ross, Strategic Communications Director Hope Hicks, and advisors Gary Cohn and Dina Habibi Powell.
All of the D.C. dinner guests were sighted and photographed entering the Kushner home on Friday night by the Daily Mail, which published the photos on Saturday. Jared Kushner is visible greeting his guests at the door. (Read more)

9. A Special Prayer for PM Netanyahu
Please pray for PM Netanyahu as he is under investigations. He is being questioned again today. He has stated about these baseless charges:
On Thursday, Netanyahu took to Facebook to complain of the "pressure inflicted by the media and [some] politicians on the attorney general and law enforcement to file an indictment at any cost against the prime minister. "This is an attempt to carry out a coup, in a non-democratic way," he wrote. (Times of Israel)
This is also an attempt by the left to displace Netanyahu before he and President Trump can actually work hand in hand to strengthen Israel. The left would like to see Herzog or Livni get in and cause dissension with the new US administration. Please pray these investigations and the whole attempt to overthrow Netanyahu will end.
"No weapon forged to be used against you will succeed; you will refute everyone who tries to accuse you. This is what the LORD will do for his servants--I will vindicate them," says the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17)
"He who vindicates Me is near; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand up to each other; Who has a case against Me? Let him draw near to Me." (Isaiah 50:8)
Blessings and Shalom,

Please note:
Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
1. Trump to announce Supreme Court pick on Tuesday- USA Today
Setting up a high-stakes legal and political battle, President Trump said Monday he will announce his Supreme Court choice in a prime-time address Tuesday night, two days earlier than initially scheduled. Trump did not disclose the identity of his nominee, but told reporters that his pick is "unbelievably highly respected" and people will be "very impressed" by the selection.
The scheduling announcement came via Trump's Twitter feed: :I have made my decision on who I will nominate for The United States Supreme Court. It will be announced live on Tuesday at 8:00 P.M. (W.H.)." Trump's nominee will likely face intense opposition from Democrats in the Senate, where Republicans who hold a slim, 52-seat majority blocked former president Barack Obama's choice of federal appeals court Judge Merrick Garland last year. (Read more)
- Lord we pray for this action, for the nominee to be protected and not blocked. We thank You that a righteous man will be chosen, a man who will be as strong a Justice as Scalia.
- "For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous." (Psalm 37:17)
2. U.S. Senate advances nomination of Tillerson as Secretary of State - Reuters
The U.S. Senate advanced te nomination of former Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) Chief Executive Rex Tillerson on Monday to be President Donald Trump's secretary of state, moving closer to filling a key seat on the Republican's national security team despite partisan rancor over Trump's immigration order.
The vote was 56 to 43 to move toward a final confirmation vote after up to 30 hours' debate, putting a final vote very early on Wednesday, if senators do not agree to change the time. (Read more)
- We thank You, Lord, for this answer to prayer, and we continue to lift up Rex Tillerson before Your Throne of Grace, that he might find favor when his nomination comes before the entire Senate for a vote this week. In Your Name, amen.
- "When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." (Proverbs 16:7)
3. Priebus: We Won't Apologize For Keeping America Safe - RealClearPolitics
President Trump's WH chief of staff Reince Priebus joins NBC's Chuck Todd on 'Meet The Press' to defend Trump's executive order restricting people coming into the U.S. from seven middle eastern countries.
"The fact of the matter is that 325,000 people from foreign countries came into the United States yesterday, and 109 people were detained for further questioning. Most of those people were moved out. We've got a couple dozen more that remain," Priebus told Todd. "I would suspect that as long as they are not awful people, they will be moved through today... If they're folks that shouldn't be in this country, they're going to be detained. So we apologize for nothing here." (Read more)
- Father, we thank You that You have placed in the office of the President of the United States one who truly desires to make America safe again. Lord God, President Trump is also a man who is holding to all the promises he has made over the past year on the campaign trail. We thank You for his courage, his tenacity, and his desire to do the right thing to protect all of us, in Your name, amen.
- "But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one." (Matthew 5:37)
4. CAIR Issues Statement on Trump's Planned 'Muslim Ban' Executive Orders - CAIR
The Council on American-Islamic-Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today issued a statement in reaction to executive orders expected to be signed by President Donald Trump restricting immigration from a number of Middle Eastern and African countries.
"Make no mistake - whatever language is used in President Trump's executive orders on refugees, immigration and visa programs - Muslims are the sole targets of these orders.
"These orders are a disturbing confirmation of Islamophobic and un-American policy proposals made during the presidential election campaign. . ." (Read more)
- Lord God, how easily our enemies twist the truth! We wept for the past 8 years as we witnessed hardly any Christian refugees welcome to our shores from Muslim - majority nations, and we lobbied the Obama administration to ease this policy, to no avail.
Now, Lord God, the shoe is on the other foot, and the enemy is crying out. We call forth TRUTH to come forth in the public rhetoric about this temporary ban, for it is not designed to keep out Moslems, but only the terrorists that live in these nations. Lord God, we speak SHALOM over our nation tonight, in Your name, amen.
- "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)
5. Some Muslim-American activists back Trump's extreme vetting - Fox News
Not all Muslim-Americans reject President Trump's executive order restricting travel from seven troubled, Muslim-majority nations.
Amid widespread protests and a federal lawsuit filed by the Council for American-Islamic Relations, a handful of Muslim activists say the president was right to order the sudden imposition of strict and targeted travel regulations.
"It's not a ban on Islam, or any religion," Raheel Raza, a Pakistani-born Muslim human rights activist, told Fox News. "There is so much hysteria surrounding this order that it's unfortunately barring reason and logic. Trump is not politically correct at all. (If he wanted to) he would say outright that it was a Muslim ban."
Raza has come out in support of the 120-day suspension of the refugee program and a 90-day moratorium on travel to the U.S. from citizens of seven terror hot spots, including Iraq, Syria, Somalia and Sudan. She said every country has a right to secure its borders, and that the temporary order is needed while Washington works on a better solution to combat extremism. (Read more)
- Thank You Lord for a voice of reason in the middle of the hysteria. We ask for her soul, and a removal of the deception and lies in the minds and hearts of those who are over-reacting to something that other Democrat Presidents have done in the past.
- "Remove falsehood and lies far from me." (Proverbs 30:8a)
6. Washington becomes first state to sue Trump over refugee order- KXLY local
Calling it an attack on religious freedom and a threat to the state economy, the state of Washington will go to court to try and prove President Trump's order on refugees is unconstitutional.
Attorney General Bob Ferguson said his team has worked all weekend to prepare a lawsuit that will be filed Monday afternoon in federal court. Attorney General Ferguson said the lawsuit seeks to prove several provisions in President Trump's executive order are unconstitutional and should invalidate the entire order.
The lawsuit, billed as State of Washington versus Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, accuses the government of violating the First Amendment and several current immigration laws. The attorney general said President Trump's order not only persecutes believers in a particular religious faith, but also threatens the safety and economy of all of Washington. (Read more)
- Once again, Lord, we come you to ask that You stop the hysteria over our President's common sense actions. We ask that all lawsuits be dismissed.
- "But we are doing great evil against ourselves." (Jeremiah 26:19c)
7a. Acting AG tells Justice Department staff not to defend Trump's refugee order - Fox News
Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, a holdover from the Obama administration, directed Justice Department attorneys Monday not to defend President Donald Trump's controversial executive refugee and immigration ban. Yates said in a memo that she was "not convinced" that Trump's order was lawful, nor that its defense was consistent with the department's obligation to "always seek justice and stand for what is right."
Yates' directive was likely to be temporary, given that Sen. Jeff Sessions, Trump's pick for attorney general, will likely move to uphold the president's policy. Sessions is currently awaiting Senate confirmation. (Read more)
7b. Trump fires acting AG for refusing to defend travel ban - The Hill
President Trump on Monday night fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she defied him by refusing to have the Justice Department defend his controversial executive order on immigration. "Tonight, President Trump relieved Ms. Yates of her duties," the White House said in a statement.
Trump selected Dana Boente, a U.S. attorney from Virginia, to replace Yates until his attorney general pick, Sen. Jeff Sessions, is confirmed. That vote could be this week.
"Ms. Yates is an Obama Administration appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration. It is time to get serious about protecting our country. Calling for tougher vetting for individuals travelling from seven dangerous places is not extreme. It is reasonable and necessary to protect our country." (Read more)
- Lord, this Deputy AG did not honor her position, or her boss.
- "Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work." (Titus 3:1)
9. Limbaugh: Trump has 1 much bigger problem than protesters - WND
While protests continue over President Donald Trump's "extreme vetting" of foreigners from seven Muslim-dominated countries, radio host Rush Limbaugh says the commander in chief faces a much more serious problem.
"The real choke point here and the real weak point - and I've mentioned it a number of times all during the campaign - the real problem Trump has here is not these protesters," Limbaugh said Monday on his national broadcast. "The real problem he's gonna have is the Republicans in Congress sticking with him. This is the kind of thing that they've caved to I don't know how many times."
"This is the kind of uprising in the media, uprising on the left that just sends chills down the spines of the average, ordinary Washington Republican, and they cave within seconds to things like this, as [Sen. John] McCain and Lindsey Graham predictably and right on schedule have done, by coming out and saying they profoundly disagree. This has always been, as far as I'm concerned, the wild card for anything Trump does, and that is the Republican and the Republican leadership in Congress." (Read more)
- Lord, we pray that You would infuse the GOP in Congress with a backbone to stand strong with the President. We take authority over weakness in the face of pressure in Jesus' Name.
- "Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand." (Romans 14:4c)
10. Iran tests ballistic missile in defiance of UN resolution, US officials say - Fox News
Iran conducted its first ballistic missile test under Donald Trump's presidency, in yet another apparent violation of a United Nations resolution, U.S. officials told Fox News on Monday. The launch occurred Sunday at a well-known test site outside Semnan, about 140 miles east of Tehran, Fox News was first to learn.
The Khorramshahr medium-range ballistic missile flew 600 miles before exploding, in a failed test of a reentry vehicle, officials said. Iran defense minister Brigadier Gen. Hossein Dehqan said in September that Iran would start production of the missile.
U.N. resolution 2231 -- put in place days after the Iran nuclear deal was signed -- calls on the Islamic Republic not to conduct such tests. However, this is at least Iran's second such test since July. The resolution bars Iran from conducting ballistic missile tests for eight years and went into effect July 20, 2015.
Iran is "called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology," according to the text of the resolution. (Read more)
- Lord we thank You for Your protection against the actions of Iran, and ask that You build a hedge of fire around Western interests throughout the region.
- "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)

Enforcing the law causes outrage
The news media immediately went into "globalist" group-think and interviewed immigrant travelers who were stranded by the Trump E-Os and telling the good they were doing for America--heart specialists, doctorial candidates, people who had saved to get their education in America, etc.-painting a picture that these folks were unfairly being singled out by this nasty president who insists on enforcing the law. There has not been one mention of the terrorist attacks in the US-one per year since the previous "president" took office, involving those who had immigrated to this country or were homegrown products of not enforcing immigration laws or carefully vetting those coming from terrorist-sponsoring countries.
The Center for Immigration Studies analyzed data released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. From 2010 to 2016, ICE released 124 aliens who have been charged with 135 new homicides--some have been released multiple times. In 2014, ICE released a total of 30,558 criminal aliens. These aliens had already been convicted of 92,347 crimes before they were released by ICE. As of July 25, 2015, a total of 1,607 aliens had been convicted of a crime after being freed by ICE. The total number of new crimes for which these aliens were convicted after ICE released them was 2,560, including: 298 dangerous drug offenses, 185 assaults, 40 weapons offenses, 28 sex offenses, 10 sex assaults, four kidnappings, two arsons, and one homicide. The numbers have escalated since the study.
The Bible is very clear about how to handle immigrants. Exodus 22:21 says, "You shall neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him." This is repeated in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. In context, Exodus 12:49 says, "One law shall be to him that is home-born, and unto the foreigner who sojourns among you." This is also repeated in Numbers and Leviticus. One law for all. In this context it is God's law, but these people neither want to submit to the laws of the nation or to God's laws. If they are here illegally, they have broken the law as their first act. Hard as it is, policymakers must address this, otherwise our country is in danger. Trump is taking the first step. It's not pretty enforcing laws that have not been enforced for a long time. But it is necessary to protect the rest of the population from the predators and terrorists.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Media Malpractice

Media Malpractice
Late Friday afternoon, President Trump signed an executive order designed to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the country. Immediately the left and its media allies went on the attack.
Virtually every major media outlet breathlessly reported that President Trump's order had resulted in chaos and outrage. Protests "spontaneously" erupted. Hollywood elites are accusing the White House of fascism. Members of Congress were choking back tears and denouncing the White House action as "mean spirited" and "unconstitutional."
Here's part of President Trump's order:
"In order to protect Americans, the United States must ensure that those admitted to this country do not bear hostile attitudes toward it and its founding principles. The United States cannot, and should not, admit those who do not support the Constitution, or those who would place violent ideologies over American law. In addition, the United States should not admit those who engage in acts of bigotry or hatred (including "honor" killings, other forms of violence against women, or the persecution of those who practice religions different from their own) or those who would oppress Americans of any race, gender, or sexual orientation."
This is exactly the kind of vetting we need! There is no reason for us to be importing bigotry.
The media have abandoned all notion of objectivity. CNN had a guest on yesterday actually making the case that this order was evidence of "white supremacism" in the Trump Administration. President Trump was right to call the media "the opposition."
The so-called "mainstream media" are little more than the propaganda arm of the Democratic National Committee. Their mission is not to educate the public but to deceive the public by hiding facts and distorting the truth. (Gary Bauer)
Making America Safe Again
|
||||
Making America Safe Again
At the start of the weekend, President Trump was busy doing what President Trump does -- making things happen.
In an executive order on Friday, Trump limited travel to the U.S. by citizens of seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Making good on a promise to increase national security and prevent future terrorist attacks within our borders, the president suspended the issuance of visas for these nationals for the next 90 days because of the prominence of jihadi violence within their borders. Along with a variety of other measures, the order also brought scrutiny on the process for immigrants and visitors from any nation by creating a temporary hold on any refugee travel to the U.S.
Trump's order also prioritizes the admission of persecuted religious minorities in the previous countries after the temporary ban is up, whether those refugees be Yazidi, Christian, or Muslim.
Trump has also ordered the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department to prepare a plan to create safe zones in Syria and the surrounding area within 90 days.
Predictably, the media and liberal politicians went crazy. Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) took to Twitter, vowing to fight the order "tooth and nail." Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) issued a public statement that claimed "the Statue of Liberty . . . has tears in her eyes." (Family Research Council)

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER
"Pray continually." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
"Pray continually." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Lyrics
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father's throne Make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, My soul has often found relief And oft escaped the tempter's snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! The joys I feel, the bliss I share, Of those whose anxious spirits burn With strong desires for thy return! With such I hasten to the place Where God my Savior shows His face, And gladly take my station there, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless. And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I'll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! May I thy consolation share, Till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height, I view my home and take my flight: This robe of flesh I'll drop and rise To seize the everlasting prize; And shout, while passing through the air, "Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

About the Author:
Words: William Walford, 1845
Music: William B. Bradbury, 1861
About the hymn:
During my residence at Coleshill, Warwickshire, England, I became acquainted with W. W. Walford, the blind preacher, a man of obscure birth and connections and no education, but of strong mind and most retentive memory.
In the pulpit he never failed to select a lesson well adapted to his subject, giving chapter and verse with unerring precision and scarcely ever misplacing a word in his repetition of the Psalms, every part of the New Testament, the prophecies, and some of the histories, so as to have the reputation of "knowing the whole Bible by heart." He actually sat in the chimney corner, employing his mind in composing a sermon or two for Sabbath delivery, and his hands in cutting, shaping and polishing bones for shoe horns and other little useful implements.
At intervals he attempted poetry. On one occasion, paying him a visit, he repeated two or three pieces which he had composed, and having no friend at home to commit them to paper, he had laid them up in the storehouse within. "How will this do?" asked he, as he repeated the following lines, with a complacent smile touched with some light lines of fear lest he subject himself to criticism. I rapidly copied the lines with my pencil, as he uttered them, and sent them for insertion in the Observer, if you should think them worthy of preservation.

Signs and Wonders
Italy's Etna Volcano Awakens with New Explosions in the New Year
Etna in Italy had a real quiet 2016. However, it appears that 2017 won't follow the same path. Since January 23, the summit craters on Etna have been restless and now strombolian explosions have been rocking the South East Crater. In fact, two distinct vapor-and-ash plumes are active on the Sicilian volcano. This is the first sign of magma at the surface at Etna in over eight months (which is a long time for the nearly-constantly restless volcano).
The current eruption (termed "mild" by the folks at the INGV's Etna Observatory) first started with loud explosions and incandescent blocks on January 20. By January 23, full-fledged strombolian explosions were occurring from a vent between some of the older South East Crater vents. On top of that, glowing and a small plume was noted from the Voragine crater as well. Etna is well-known for having eruptions where multiple summit vents are active, so this isn't too out of the ordinary. Whether this activity is a harbinger of an active new year at Etna is still unknown, but clearly the conditions are changing at the Italian volcano. When the weather is favorable, you can watch the eruptions at Etna on the webcams. (Wired.com) Read more.
