On the Campaign Trail

On the Campaign Trail

Editor's comment:

In this increasingly complex campaign season, we turn to the Author and the Finisher of our faith . . . the anchor of our soul . . . our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As we list topics of interest for both campaigns, we ask you to join us in decreeing, very simply, that God's will shall be done (Matthew 6:10), and thanking our Lord that He is the "governor of the nations" (Psalm 22:28) and as such, He holds all in His hand. Thank you all, and God bless you as you lift up this election in prayer. Amen.

1. Early Voting Begins in the White House - The Hill

Brace yourselves: Election Day has begun.

Some federal write-in absentee ballots, which are typically reserved for people serving dangerous foreign deployments or stints on submarines, have already started to come in. And that trickle of ballots will soon become a flood, with early voting set to begin in several states around the country.

The first round of early ballots will be dropped in the mail in North Carolina on Friday, kicking off a nearly nine-week sprint of early and absentee voting before the final results are tallied on Nov. 8.

Even before the first absentee ballots go out, the first vote has been cast. North Carolina officials said August 26 they had received a Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot from Francois Farge, a 51-year old Republican registered to vote in North Carolina but living in France. (Read more)

2. Signs of electoral earthquake in latest polls - WND

The latest state and national polls, the first partially reflecting Hillary Clinton's bad week, show Donald Trump moving up in swing states, challenging his opponent in Democrat states and running away with Republican states.

In Ohio, one of the most important battleground venues, the latest Bloomberg poll, conducted only partially after Mrs. Clinton's physical collapse Sunday, shows Trump with his biggest lead - up 5 percent. Taken Friday through Monday, Trump emerges with a 48 percent to 43 percent lead among likely voters in a two-way contest and 44 percent to 39 percent when third-party candidates are included. 3. Trump Wants Many More Employers to 'Get Involved' in Child Care -Zerohedge.com

Republican Donald Trump says both the federal government and private industry should be helping working parents and even stay-at-home parents care for their children.

"Child care is such a big problem. And we're going to solve that problem," Trump told a rally in Aston, Pa., Tuesday night.

In a plan pushed by his daughter Ivanka, a mother of three herself, Trump announced what he called a "pro-family, pro-child, pro-worker plan" that relies on new tax deductions (for up to four children per family); an expanded earned income tax credit, and dependent care savings accounts that can add up over time. 4. Family Research Council Action Praises Donald Trump's Child Care Tax Plan - FRC

Washington, D.C. -- Family Research Council Action today announced its support for a plan proposed by GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump that would allow parents -- whether in the workplace or at home -- the ability to deduct the average cost of child care from their taxes. 5. Clinton's Pneumonia Secrecy? 'I Just Didn't Think It Was Going to Be That Big a Deal' - CNSNews.com

Why didn't Hillary Clinton just say she had pneumonia on Friday, the day she says her doctor diagnosed it? Why keep it secret, CNN's Anderson Cooper asked Clinton in a telephone interview Monday night.

"I just didn't think it was going to be that big a deal," said the woman whose health has come under scrutiny, even before she was seen collapsing into a Secret Service van outside the 9/11 memorial service in New York City on Sunday. (Read more)

7. Obama hits campaign trail for Clinton amid rough patch, calls her 'fit' to lead - Fox News

President Obama returned Tuesday to the campaign trail to help fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton through arguably the rockiest stretch of her White House campaign, brushing aside the controversies that have dogged her candidacy and assuring voters she's "fit" for office -- as she spends a second day off the trail on doctor's orders.

"You want to debate who is more fit to be our president?" Obama asked the crowd at a rally in Philadelphia. "One candidate [has] traveled to more countries than any secretary of state ever has. And the other isn't fit in any way, shape or form to represent this country." (Read more)

8. BREAKING! Clinton campaign releases additional health details on candidate - Fox News

The Hillary Clinton campaign on Wednesday released what it called a "comprehensive update" on the candidate's medical information, describing the illness that took her off the trail this week as a mild and non-contagious bacterial pneumonia.

"She is recovering well with antibiotics and rest," Dr. Lisa Bardack said, adding the candidate remains "healthy and fit to serve."

Describing the pneumonia diagnosis, her doctor said she detected a "small" sign of pneumonia in the right middle-lobe of her lung. (Read more)

Former president Peres released from hospital after suffering irregular heartbeat.

Former president Shimon Peres remained in serious but stable condition on Wednesday morning after suffering a severe stroke Tuesday night, said Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer Director Yitzhak Kreiss.

The Daily Brief

Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Chaffetz Asks FBI, 'What Information Do You Believe That Congress Does Not Have the Right to See? - CNSNews.com

The chairman of the House Oversight committee on Monday said the FBI must produce its full investigative file on Hillary Clinton's use of a personal server and email address to the United States Congress. "And I mean the full file, not just the parts the FBI deemed relevant," Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) told the FBI's congressional liaison on Monday. "We decide what's relevant, not the Department of Justice, not the FBI. We're entitled to the full file," Chaffetz said. (Read more)

- Abba, We have noticed these last few years, an increasingly disregard for Congress and its role in governing our nation. This spirit of lawlessness must be confronted and stopped. According to the U. S. Constitution, We, the people, through our votes, are the ones who should be running this country. We ask that our nation submit itself to our Constitution, and to our God, and bring glory to You we pray, Amen.

- "Then if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves, if they will pray and seek Me and stop their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

2. Clinton IT specialist ignores subpoena for House hearing; other witnesses plead 5th - Fox News

The former State Department IT specialist who set up Hillary Clinton's private server ignored a subpoena to appear Tuesday before a House committee hearing, while other tech experts who helped maintain the system asserted their Fifth Amendment right not to testify - frustrating Republican lawmakers trying to dig deeper into the former secretary of state's email setup. House oversight committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said he'll now consider a "full range of options" to address IT aide Bryan Pagliano's "failure" to attend. "He should be here. It is not optional," Chaffetz said. (Read more)

- Father God, we offer You praise that Congress is fulfilling its obligation to hold this government agency accountable for its apparent misdeeds. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we remove the "Gag order" that has been placed around Bryan Pagliano by the State Department, and we decree that all hidden things be revealed under his watch. We do this in Your name, amen.

- For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light. (Mark 4:22)

3. Civil Rights Commission: 'Religious Liberty,' 'Religious Freedom' Code Words for Intolerance, Homophobia, and 'Christian Supremacy' - CNSNews.com

A new report by the United States Commission on Civil Rights supports the majority on the federal commission, who say that efforts to protect religious liberty and freedom are really a way for individuals and entities to discriminate against people who don't share their beliefs.

"The phrases 'religious liberty' and 'religious freedom' will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Christian supremacy or any form of intolerance," Martin Castro, chairman of the commission, said in a statement included in the 296-page report.

"Religious liberty was never intended to give one religion dominion over other religions, or a veto power over the civil rights and civil liberties of others," Castro said. "However, today, as in the past, religion is being used as both a weapon and a shield by those seeking to deny others equality. In our nation's past religion has been used to justify slavery and later, Jim Crow laws," Castro said. "We now see 'religious liberty' arguments sneaking their way back into our political and constitutional discourse (just like the concept of 'state rights') in an effort to undermine the rights of some Americans."(Read more)

- Lord of Heaven and Earth, God of the Universe, how sad to see our dear and precous freedoms become eroded and mislabeled and made wrong. We ask for our freedoms to be restored, and our country to be renewed, bringing joy and glory to You, and honor and glory to our nation. We thank You for our Forefathers, who have given their lives and hearts to You. We thank You for this wonderful Land, and give glory to You. In Your Name, we pray, Amen.

- "Now it shall be, if you diligently listen to and obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all of His commandments which I am commanding you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. "Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth." (Deuteronomy 12;2;29)

4. Disturbing, Dramatic New Details Emerge About San Bernardino Terror Attack - CBSLocal/LA

A new report from the Justice Department and the Police Foundation reveal many new, disturbing and dramatic details about the San Bernardino terror attack last December.

The report revealed that three mystery people tried to rush the two terrorists - but these heroes were gunned down. KCAL9's Tom Wait says the report also included new information about the bravery and heroism from police and paramedics.

. . . One other very troubling detail: Police found a bag in the conference room that contained three pipe bombs. They didn't realize the bag was there until about six hours after the shooting. Police believe those explosives were supposed to go off after first-responders reached the scene. (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank You for the bravery demonstrated by these first responders on that tragic day in San Bernardino, and for the lives that were saved. We continue to lift up those who mourn, almost nine months later, for the lives of those who were lost. May this tragedy yet be turned to good, by the redemptive love of our Savior, in His name, amen.

- Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)

5. Border Patrol Chief: 7,542 Agents Assaulted Since 2006; 30 Died in Line of Duty Since 2003 - CNSNews.com

Mark Morgan, the head of the U.S. Border Patrol, told Congress on Tuesday that in his first few months on the job, he's learned that the men and women who carry out the "never-ending mission" often do so at personal risk to themselves.

"You know, the numbers we often hear associated with the United States Border Patrol are the numbers of annual apprehensions of those attempting to illegally enter the country every year. It's hundreds of thousands. I'd like to take a few minutes to also share some other numbers that we don't often talk about," Morgan told a House Homeland Security subcommittee. I've learned that the United States Border Patrol agents are among the most assaulted law enforcement personnel in the country. There have been 7,542 assaults against agents since 2006, and 30 agents have died in the line of duty since 2003."

"Another number which often gets little mention is how often Border Patrol agents put themselves in harm's way to provide emergency medical care and assistance to those in need, to include those that are trying to illegally enter the United States," Morgan said. He noted that every year, the U.S. Border Patrol rescues thousands of victims of human smuggling and others attempting to cross the desert to get into the U.S. (Read more)

- Father, we are saddened to read these numbers of those on Border Patrol Duty, who have put their lives in harm's way to protect our southern border, some making the ultimate sacrifice. We definitely need to rectify this situation, and protect these men and women, who are placing their lives in danger. Protect them, we pray, and give them quick and witty ideas as to how to manage this situation for the good of our nation, and for the glory of Your name. Amen.

- "I, [godly] wisdom, reside with prudence [good judgment, moral courage and astute common sense], And I find knowledge and discretion." (Proverbs 8:12)

6. Tent Cities Full Of Homeless People Are Booming In Cities All Over America As Poverty Spikes - ZeroHedge.com

Just like during the last economic crisis, homeless encampments are popping up all over the nation as poverty grows at a very alarming rate. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, more than half a million people are homeless in America right now, but that figure is increasing by the day. And it isn't just adults that we are talking about. It has been reported that that the number of homeless children in this country has risen by 60 percent since the last recession, and Poverty USA says that a total of 1.6 million children slept either in a homeless shelter or in some other form of emergency housing at some point last year. Yes, the stock market may have been experiencing a temporary boom for the last couple of years, but for those on the low end of the economic scale things have just continued to deteriorate.

Tonight, countless numbers of homeless people will try to make it through another chilly night in large tent cities that have been established in the heart of major cities such as Seattle, Washington, D.C. and St. Louis. Homelessness has gotten so bad in California that the L.A. City Council has formally asked Governor Jerry Brown to officially declare a state of emergency. And in Portland the city has extended their "homeless emergency" for yet another year, and city officials are really struggling with how to deal with the booming tent cities that have sprung up. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for a solution to this outbreak of homeless people. May the churches in these areas rally together with food and clothing, and the gospel, to help those in need.

- "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind; to set free the oppressed and announce that the time has come when the Lord will save his people." (Luke 4:18-19)

7. Iran threatened to shoot down US Navy spy planes in the Persian Gulf - Fox News

Iran threatened to shoot down two US Navy surveillance aircraft flying close to Iranian territory in the Persian Gulf over the weekend, the latest in a series of recent provocations between Iran and the US military in the region, three US defense officials with knowledge of the incident told Fox News.

On Sept. 10, a Navy P-8 Poseidon with a crew of nine and an EP-3 Eries with a crew of roughly 24, were flying a reconnaissance mission 13 miles off the coast of Iran, through the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman, according to officials who call the boundary Iran's "black line." Iran's territorial waters-like all nations--extend 12 miles into the sea, according to international maritime law.

At some point during the flight, the Iranian military warned the two aircraft to change course or risk getting shot down. The US military planes ignored the warning and continued flying in international airspace, although close to Iranian territory, the officials told Fox.

"We wanted to test the Iranian reaction," one US official told Fox News when asked why the US jets were flying close to Iran. "It's one thing to tell someone to get off your lawn, but we weren't on their lawn," the official continued. "Anytime you threaten to shoot someone down, it's not considered professional." (Read more)

- Lord God, we continue to ask Your protection over all of our military in the region of the Persian Gulf: on land, at sea, and in the air. Thank You, Lord, for watching over our men and women in uniform, in Your name, amen.

- If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (Matthew 21:22)

8. U.S. bombers fly over South Korea in show of force after nuclear test - Reuters

SEOUL Two U.S. B-1 bombers flew over South Korea on Tuesday in a show of force and solidarity with its ally after North Korea's nuclear test last week, while a U.S. envoy called for a swift and strong response to Pyongyang from the United Nations.

Speaking in the South Korean capital on Tuesday, Sung Kim, the U.S. envoy on North Korea, added that the United States remained open to meaningful dialogue with Pyongyang on ending its pursuit of nuclear weapons. "Our intention is to secure the strongest possible (U.N. Security Council) resolution that includes new sanctions as quickly as possible," Kim told a news briefing after meeting his South Korean counterpart.

He said the United States would work with China, North Korea's major diplomatic ally, to close loopholes in existing resolutions, which were tightened with Beijing's backing in March. "China has been very clear that they understand the need for a new U.N. Security Council resolution in response to the latest North Korean nuclear test," Kim said. (Read more)

- Father God, we continue to lift up the increasing tensions between North Korea and both South Korea and the United States, asking Your hand to rest upon all parties involved, bringing peace. We ask for a miracle, in Jesus' name, amen.

- "Nothing is too difficult for thee." (Jeremiah 32:17)

9. David Cameron resigns from UK Parliament - CNN

From world leader to the wilderness in just under three months.

David Cameron, the former British Prime Minister, has announced he will stand down as a member of Parliament for his constituency of Witney immediately, triggering a by-election. Cameron, who has served in Parliament since 2001, stepped down as Prime Minister in the aftermath of June's Brexit vote in which the UK decided to leave the European Union.

He had previously said that he was "keen to continue" in his role as a backbench MP after stepping away from Downing Street but has since decided such a role is untenable.

"In my view, the circumstances of my resignation as Prime Minister and the realities of modern politics make it very difficult to continue on the backbenches without the risk of becoming a diversion to the important decisions that lie ahead for my successor in Downing Street and the Government," he said in a statement Monday.

"I fully support Theresa May and have every confidence that Britain will thrive under her strong leadership. "I now look forward to a life outside of Westminster, but hope to continue to play a part in public service and to make a real and useful contribution to the country I love." (Read more)

- Father God, we lift up David Cameron before Your Throne of Grace and we call forth Your kingdom purposes and destiny in his life. May this time of humbling draw him Closer to You in the knowledge of Your salvation and Your plan for his life, in Your Name, amen.

- "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (1 Timothy 1: 1,2)

10. Category 5 Super Typhoon Meranti is strongest storm of 2016 season - mashable.com

Churning the waters of the Northwest Pacific is the strongest tropical cyclone of the 2016 Northern Hemisphere season: Super Typhoon Meranti. It is the fourth Category 5 storm on Earth this year, which is close to the annual average of between four and five such storms.

Super Typhoon Meranti, which according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center had maximum sustained winds of 155 knots, or nearly 180 miles per hour, as of Monday evening eastern time, has southern Taiwan and coastal China in its sights for the middle of the week.

Fluctuations in the storm's intensity are likely before Meranti makes its closest pass to southern Taiwan on Wednesday, but it is likely to still be a powerful Typhoon at that time. Taiwan's second-most populous city, Kaohsiung City, is located in the southwest part of the island. (Read more)

- Abba, we thank You that You are the Lord of the winds and the waves! We have seen so many "natural disasters" here of late: fires, winds, rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, typhoons, floods. and cyclones across the earth. It reminds us of Your mighty Hand drawing in the sand, when the woman was taken in adultery, and You wrote men's sins upon the sand. Here there is calamity and disaster, but still You decide the limits of these storms, and we thank You! Protect Your people, we pray. Amen.

- "And said, 'this far you shall come, but no farther; and here your proud waves shall stop'?" (Job 38:9)

The Daily Jot (Part One)

Good citizenship matters

There are many articles and books being written about how the United States is under judgment and how the nation needs to repent. The news media and politicians usually are angered greatly by these assertions. "Certainly, it is those right wing Christian lunatics at it again," they might say. Everyone and anyone has license to ridicule those who believe that the moral decay of our nation starting at the very top--not only in this particular leadership, but several previous ones--is any reason that our nation is facing sure financial crisis, a breakdown of the family, a marriage crisis, a murder crisis, especially of the unborn, and continuous threat from Islamic terrorists.

In all fairness, perhaps Christians blame God too much for this condition. Much of the problems of this nation have been brought on by ourselves--we, as citizens. There are just certain principles that apply. If you spend more than you take in, you are in debt; if you allow the breakdown of the family structure, your society will reflect it; if your choices go against good wisdom, there are consequences. Enough people doing the wrong things brings an entire society down. There is also a collective nature to a society that God judges as a reflection of the people. Now is when people hit the unsubscribe button and run out of the room screaming, "I'm a good person. I didn't support these rogues. Its not my fault."

Examples of God judging the nations is seen throughout the Old Testament. God judges nations because the people of the nation, and His people specifically, are not living righteously. The nation suffers because of the condition of the people, and the nation also suffers because of the condition of the leadership. One good example is found in Ezekiel 22:30, "And I sought for a man among them, that should build up the wall, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none." Another is Proverbs 29:2, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn." You see, both people and leaders share responsibility.

Set aside politics and the United States. Let's look at the Kingdom of God. If followers of the Messiah do not impact their society, what will that society look like? Jesus told us in Matthew 5:13, "You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." He later says that we are the light of the world, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." These are commands for action. It is those who know Jesus who are to impact the world. Good citizenship in the Kingdom of God translates to good citizenship in your nation. When it is not exercised in deed and in accountability, the nation declines or faces judgment.

Do not be deceived, registered Churches in China are not free

China (MNN) - When 20 world leaders get together, there's bound to be some tension.

Before the summit, the United States Commission of International Religions Freedom (USCIRF) urged President Obama to discuss religious freedom with President Xi Jinping. And while he seems to have taken this advice, according to several news stories, it doesn't appear that the conversation was productive.

Outside of China, it's hard to get a feel for how things are in China. For many of us, it seems like China is doing a lot better when it comes to human rights than they have in the recent past.

Patrick Klein of Vision Beyond Borders says that's not really true.

Classic Hymns:

OH HOW I LOVE JESUS!

"God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

Lyrics

There is a Name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest Name on earth.

Refrain:

Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Because He first loved me!

It tells me of a Savior's love,
Who died to set me free;
It tells me of His precious blood,
The sinner's perfect plea.

It tells me what my Father hath
In store for every day,
And though I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.

Signs and Wonders

EARTH's MAGNETIC FIELD RINGS LIKE A BELL

In the Lofoten Islands of Norway, Spaceweather.com reader Rob Stammes operates a magnetic observatory. 24 hours a day, he measures the strength and direction of the local magnetic field as well as electrical currents running through the ground. During geomagnetic storms, his chart recordings go haywire. On Sept. 12th, something different happened. They rang like a bell.

"During the morning and especially around noon, sinusoidal pulsations appeared on my instruments," says Stammes. "The period was close to 115 seconds."

These are natural ultra-low frequency oscillations known to researchers as "pulsations continuous" (Pc). The physics is familiar to anyone who has studied bells or resonant cavities. Earth's magnetic field carves out a cavity in the surrounding solar wind. Pressure fluctuations in the solar wind can excite wave modes in this cavity much like Stammes observed.

The magnetic oscillations of Sept. 12th were Pc4 waves; in other words, their frequencies fell in the range 6.7-22 mHz. Pc4 waves, and their even lower frequency cousins Pc5 waves (1.7-6.7 mHz), can have an energizing influence on particles in Earth's inner magnetosphere because the waves resonate with the natural motion of particles around the geomagnetic field. Amazing Archaeological Find: Could Moses Have Sat On This Chair?

(Albuquerque, New Mexico)-[ANS] Noted Biblical Archeologist and director of the Tall el-Hammam Excavation Project in Jordan, Dr. Steven Collins, recently gave a lecture at Calvary Albuquerque entitled "Why Sodom Matters."

During his address, Dr. Collins gave an update on the excavations at Tall el-Hammam/Sodom. After detailing the history of the dig (the "right place," the "right time," and the "right stuff"), Dr. Collins showed slides of the recent findings from the location, including cloth, bones, and other artifacts.

Dr. Collins then proceeded to show a slide of an isolated, freestanding building at the possible location where Moses and the Israelites camped in the Kikkar of the Jordan (the Plains of Moab). It dates to the Late Bronze Age, the time of Moses and Joshua. Dr. Collins stated, "I have a sneaking suspicion that Moses may have co-opted and used the building for his personal headquarters, completing the book of Deuteronomy before crossing to Jericho the other side of the valley."

"So the nations will fear the name of the Lord And all the kings of the earth Your glory." (Psalm 102:15)

God is using His people to build a Canopy of Prayer across our nation, to stand in the gap before His Throne of Grace in repentance for our personal and national sins; and to pray against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

We meet at 7:00 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday, in an "open forum." We have no set agenda, but to seek Him daily for the burdens of His heart, and to pray them through . . .
All are welcome to join us in this exciting new venture!
