The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Tuesday, July 1, 2014

" . . . weep with those who weep . . ."
(Romans 12:15)

Anne Graham Lotz: Urgent Call to Prayer (7-7-7)

Prayer for Day One:

We worship You, Lord Jesus Christ, as the Lamb who was slain, but who is now enthroned at the center of the Universe as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, soon to return in power and glory.

You are Jesus, who calmed the stormy seas with just a word. You turned water into wine. You created sight in a man born blind. You raised the dead.
You are the same One who set the boundaries for the oceans. The same One who hung the stars in space and calls them all by name. The same One who strides the winds of the earth so that the clouds are the dust of Your feet.

3. US personnel in Bahrain prepare for Ramadan - Stars & Stripes

MANAMA, Bahrain - U.S. personnel accustomed to drinking their coffee on the drive to work will have to put that habit on hold for about a month. It's one of a few lifestyle changes Americans will have to make during the holy month of Ramadan. For the 8,200 U.S. personnel living here, and those serving throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility - including servicemembers, civilian personnel, contractors and family members - the month may require changing some daily routines. While not required to fast during Ramadan, in Bahrain, Americans can be fined or detained by local authorities for eating, drinking or smoking in public when off-base during daylight hours.

- Father, we pray for all Americans who are overseas during this time of turmoil among the nations. We pray You guide the steps of those living in Bahrain during this time of Ramadan. We speak blessings and the favor of God on them In Jesus Name.

4. US sending 300 more US troops to Iraq - Washington Examiner

The U.S. is sending another 300 troops to Iraq to beef up security at the U.S. Embassy and elsewhere in the Baghdad area to protect U.S. citizens and property, officials said Monday. That raises the total U.S. troop presence in Iraq to approximately 750, the Pentagon said.

- Precious Lord, we ask that You would put Your protective hand on these additional troops to guard them from enemy fire so that they may return home safely. We pray for our military leaders to use wisdom in how they are used and that they not be political pawns in the hand of politicians. We pray for Your wisdom from above in the carrying out of all missions in this troubled area. May all lean on You in this time.

- "For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, but the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it." (Ecclesiastes 7:12)

We ask that You would arrange circumstances so that anyone would fear to abuse the power given to them by the voters and realize that God will hold them accountable for how they govern. Deliver us from this abuse, in the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

- "For the Lord shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the Valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act." (Isaiah 28:21)

6. Berlin House of One: The first church-mosque-synagogue? - BBC News

Berlin thinks it is making religious history as Muslims, Jews and Christians join hands to build a place where they can all worship. The House of One, as it is being called, will be a synagogue, a church and a mosque under one roof. An architecture competition has been held and the winner chosen. The striking design is for a brick building with a tall, square central tower. Off the courtyard below will be the houses of worship for the three faiths - the synagogue, the church and the mosque. It is to occupy a prominent site - Petriplatz - in the heart of Berlin. (Read more) http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-27872551
- Oh, Father, how sad to see how deception has crept into Your church and many have been deceived. Father, may their eyes be opened that they may see what the enemy is leading them into at this hour. Instead of gross darkness covering the people, may Your people shine so that all will desire the light that they carry. In the name of Jesus, we bind up the spirits of deception that are operating in this situation.

- Father, we are alarmed at the rapid growth of Islam in our own nation, for this is clearly a sign that we have now lost sight of You and our Christian foundation, and are chasing after other gods. Lord, have mercy. Please visit these lost souls (who chase after Allah), even in the night, giving them dreams and visions of You, and let the light of Your Glory invade their darkened souls. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

- "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." (Exodus 20:3)

Seizing on the mayhem in Iraq, Israel's prime minister on Sunday called for the establishment of an independent Kurdistan as part of a broader alliance with moderate forces across the region, and asserted that Israel would have to maintain a long-term military presence in the West Bank to keep a jihadi juggernaut from powering its way to the outskirts of Tel Aviv. AIPAC stands with the people of Israel at this moment of sorrow and loss. We express our deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the innocent teenage boys who were murdered by terrorists with no respect for human life.

Americans and Israelis understand that terrorist barbarism cannot be tolerated. We have once again witnessed that Hamas is an enemy of peace, reconciliation and fundamental human decency. For the sake of peace, all people of goodwill should distance themselves from this terrorist body.

The spokesman for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, made the announcement in an audio statement posted online. Islamic extremists have long dreamed of recreating the Islamic state, or caliphate, that ruled over the Middle East for hundreds of years.

Abu Mohammed al-Adnani said the group's chief, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is the new leader, or caliph, of the Islamic state. He called on those living in the areas under the organization's control to swear allegiance to al-Baghdadi and support him.

"The legality of all emirates, groups, states and organizations becomes null by the expansion of the caliph's authority and the arrival of its troops to their areas," al-Adnani said.

The Daily Jot

Supreme Court, Congress, and tyranny

The Washington Times has written an analysis of the Supreme Court decisions impacting the occupant of the Oval Office. The nine justices, two of whom were appointed by the "president," have rejected his expansion of powers in 9-0 decisions 20 times in five years. While the June 30 decisions on socialized medicine and compulsory union dues were not unanimous, they were an indication of how conservatives and liberals have differing views on what the same words mean, and that the term "liberal" is becoming exponentially redefined as "tyrannical" in the interpretation of law. The divide on use of executive power and government intrusion in personal and religious life in America is widening.

Congress should not need an unelected Supreme Court to rule that dictatorial executive authority and overreaching government is unconstitutional. Moreover, American citizens do not need an unelected court to tell them when their rights are violated by executive fiat. There are some things that are obvious. The problem here is that the Supreme Court and the courts under them do not recognize that all law is originated and given by God. He is the source of the law. Law cannot be just with man rejecting God and building precept upon precept from man's interpretation of what is just. Ecclesiastes 7:20 says, "For there is not a just man upon earth, that does good, and sins not."
Notwithstanding, Ohio Republican and Speaker of the House John Boehner said, "Today's decision is a victory for religious freedom and another defeat for an administration that has repeatedly crossed constitutional lines in pursuit of its big government objectives." All well and good except that Boehner and his colleagues have Constitutional responsibility to challenge a president over abuse of executive authority. Article 1 Section 2 of the US Constitution gives the House the sole "Power of Impeachment" and Article 3 gives the Senate the sole "Power to try all Impeachments." Article 2 Section 3 requires the President to "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed."

This "president" has publicly said that he will not enforce certain laws that he does not agree with, including Defense of Marriage, immigration laws and border security, privacy laws, laws against negotiating with and funding terrorists, and those that pertain to religious freedom and freedom of speech. While the Supreme Court has done well to heal the hurt of the citizens slightly, Boehner and his colleagues have done little but grandstand in abdicating their Constitutional responsibilities to a lawless president. They are an Isaiah 59:13 group: "In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Hobby Lobby (Gary Bauer)

Supreme Court Upholds Religious Liberty

For the third time in less than two weeks, the Supreme Court has rebuked the Obama Administration for its overreach. Today the court ruled 5-to-4 that Hobby Lobby and other closely held businesses cannot be forced to subsidize abortion-inducing drugs in violation of their deeply held religious beliefs.

Politico described today's ruling as "a huge black eye for Obamacare, the administration and its backers," adding that the justices have reinforced the argument of conservative critics that "[Obamacare] and President Barack Obama are encroaching on Americans' freedoms."

In deciding the case, the Supreme Court first considered whether corporations could even claim, as Hobby Lobby did, that they possessed religious freedom rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Obama Administration effectively argued that business owners had to abandon their religious values at the company door. But the Supreme Court rejected that extreme position 7-to-2.

Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito declared:

"We doubt that the Congress that enacted [the Religious Freedom Restoration Act] -- or, for that matter, [Obamacare] -- would have believed it a tolerable result to put family-run businesses to the choice of violating their sincerely held religious beliefs or making all of their employees lose their existing healthcare plans." (Gary Bauer; Excerpt)

Hobby Lobby (FRC)

Supreme Court Delivers Momentous Religious Freedom Victory
June 30, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council (FRC) praised today's ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court upholding religious liberty and protecting the conscience rights of family businesses who object to being forced to pay for the coverage of sterilizations, contraception and drugs that have the potential to destroy an unborn child.

FRC President Tony Perkins learned of the ruling this morning as he met with the Hahn family, founders and owners of Conestoga Wood Specialties, which were represented by Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys in this lawsuit challenging the Obama administration mandate.

Perkins made the following comments:

"The Supreme Court has delivered one of the most significant victories for religious freedom in our generation. We are thankful the Supreme Court agreed that the government went too far by mandating that family businesses owners must violate their consciences under threat of crippling fines.

"All Americans can be thankful that the Court reaffirmed that freedom of conscience is a long-held American tradition and that the government cannot impose a law on American men and women that forces them to violate their beliefs in order to hold a job, own a business, or purchase health insurance.

"The unfair HHS mandate gave family businesses two non-choices: either violate your deeply held moral beliefs and comply by paying for drugs and services to which you object, or pay crippling fines of up to $100 per day, per employee, for non-compliance. This mandate threatened the jobs, livelihood and healthcare of millions of Americans and forced those who stood up for their conscience, like Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood, to either comply or be punished.
Thankfully, the threat the HHS mandate imposed on Americans has been deemed unlawful today as a violation of core religious freedom rights. While we celebrate this landmark decision, it is our hope that lower courts will follow the Supreme Court's lead and protect non-profits like Little Sisters of the Poor, Priests for Life, and Wheaton College from the unfair HHS Mandate," concluded Perkins.

Religious Liberty Wins at Supreme Court

The Supreme Court just struck down President Obama's abortion-pill mandate.

Life won. Liberty won. The Obama Administration lost.

In a landmark decision upholding religious liberty, the high court held that family businesses do enjoy religious liberty rights. This ruling will have far-reaching consequences for religious freedom

Because family businesses have religious liberty rights, they can't be forced to pay for abortion pills. They cannot be drafted into the abortion industry.

We've been fighting this battle for years. From day one, we objected to ObamaCare's unconstitutional mandate. We have 7 cases directly challenging the abortion-pill mandate, we've represented 79 Members of Congress, and filed over a dozen amicus briefs.

It's a tremendous victory for religious liberty and the lives of the unborn against President Obama's radical pro-abortion agenda. But the fight continues.

We know the Obama Administration won't give up. We must remain vigilant and ready to counter this radical Administration's next assault. Stand with us today.

The Good News Corner:

Hobby Lobby:

Victory for Hobby Lobby and all freedom loving Americans!

Dear Friends,

As you have probably already heard, today marks a landmark victory for religious liberty! As Bill and I and our Becket Fund team descended from the Supreme Court steps, we were greeted by a crowd cheering "I believe that we will win!" As you can see, we did!

The court ruled 5-4 in favor of our brave clients David and Barbara Green and their family business, Hobby Lobby.

As you can see from the ruling, business owners will not be required to violate their faith, or pay severe fines to the IRS for not complying with the HHS mandate. Our Senior Counsel Lori Windham explained today: "The Supreme Court recognized that Americans do not lose their religious freedom when they run a family business."

And this is not just for David and Barbara Green - this ruling has implications for over 50 pending lawsuits brought by nonprofits, including our very own Little Sisters of the Poor.

As Barbara Green said today in celebration: "The Court's decision is a victory, not just for our family business, but for all who seek to live out their faith. We are grateful to God and to those who have supported us on this difficult journey."

So, please join us all in celebrating today's triumph for religious freedom, and we promise to continue the fight until all of our clients are granted this same liberty.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Executive Director
The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty

P.S. The Hobby Lobby decision is already bearing fruit-just hours after the Supreme Court released the decision, Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), founded by a cloistered nun and dedicated to spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church, was granted last minute relief from the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, one day before the world's largest religious media network would have been forced to violate its deeply help religious convictions or pay crippling fines to the IRS.
