The Daily Brief

1. Air Strikes in Yemen Kill 40 Al Qaeda Militants in Two Days - Washington Free Beacon

Air strikes in southern Yemen killed about 30 suspected al Qaeda members on Sunday, local tribal sources said, in the second day of strikes against militant targets in the country.

- Father God, we are encouraged by the positive action in our country's leadership in eliminating the enemy that has sworn to destroy our country and eliminate the little country of Israel. We pray that this self-declared enemy of our country will come to a saving knowledge of Your Son, Jesus and change their ways.

- "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

2. Not Even the Threat of War in Europe Can Unite the E.U. - Time

European countries with strong trade ties to Russia remain reluctant to impose stiffer sanctions even as the conflict in eastern Ukraine worsens.

- Father, may the members of the E.U. put an end to their bureaucracy, and make good their threats against Russia and approve the next phase of sanctions. Help them put aside their fear of retaliation from Russia, and give them plans ahead of time to survive without Russia's help.

- `Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due time their foot will slip; For the day of their calamity is near, And the impending things are hastening upon them.' (Deuteronomy 32:35)

3. US ready to target Russian president's hidden $40bn stash - The Hill

The Times of London reported Friday that the U.S. was preparing a sanctions regime that would target Putin's personal wealth, which includes a reported $40 billion stashed in Swiss bank accounts.

- Father, we praise You that this action is now being taken by our government. Let all hidden things be made known, and let justice prevail in this matter. In Your Name, amen.

- "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!" (Amos 5:24)

4. Sources: White House deliberately leaked photo of ill Saudi King with breathing tube - World Tribune

The United States is said to have disclosed that Saudi King Abdullah was dying.

- Father, protect us from repercussions of this leaked photo from the White House. We continue to intercede over our leaders. Give us righteous leaders full of mercy and truth.

- Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation. (Psalm 85:7)

5. Boy sings gospel song until kidnapper sets him free: 'Every praise is to our God' - Washington Times

A 9-year-old boy who was abducted from his home in Atlanta, sang a gospel song for hours until his kidnapper snapped and set him free.

- Dear Lord, what a blessing to hear of the power of a song lifted up in praise to You. Thank you for inhabiting the praises of Your people even to the loosing of bonds and changing the hearts of the kidnapers.

- "Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hands." (Psalms 146:9)

2. US: Dissolution of PA would have 'grave implications' - Times of Israel

On Monday, the US described the dissolution of the Palestinian Authority - as has reportedly been threatened by President Mahmoud Abbas and other top Palestinian officials - as an "extreme step" that could fundamentally alter relations between Washington and Ramallah.

3. Netanyahu to Palestinians: When you want peace, let us know - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu criticized the Palestinian Authority on Monday, saying that its threat to dissolve and the ruling Fatah faction's efforts to forge unity with Hamas indicate a lack of desire for peace.

The Daily Jot

Reclaiming freedom from tyranny

There is a wind of liberty blowing across the plains of America. It has begun as a soft wind, barely noticeable in the bitter cold of soft tyranny, and it is gaining strength with each passing day. Americans are finally able to articulate the spying, the targeting, the bullying, the taxing, the lawlessness. That Rasmussen poll of April 15 is a milestone. Only 16% percent of likely voters believe the federal government has the consent of the governed, while 54% consider the federal government a threat to liberty rather than a protector of it. Majorities across Republican, Democrat and unaffiliated voters now believe that government "has become a special interest group that looks out primarily for its own interests."

By the hundreds of Executive Orders taking away Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, the militarization of nearly every non-elected, Constitutionally questionable government agency from the IRS to BLM to even the Postal Service, the spying on American citizens, the establishment of a police state, the refusal to enforce immigration, marriage, offshore drilling, and voter rights laws, to record deficit spending to materially supporting terrorists, this government, this occupant of the Oval Office has been dropping drops of tyranny into the crucible of freedom. The question is, when will Americans say no more? When will Christians realize their beliefs and freedom to exercise those beliefs are threatened with each drop?
The time is coming, if it is not here already, when the government has pushed the citizenry too far. First, is the recognition of the problem. People of all political persuasions are doing that--government has become its own special interest representing its own interest. Then is the action to correct it. Putting the rights of a desert tortoise over those of a US citizen and being willing to enforce it with extreme military might reveals the heart of tyranny. Hats off to Cliven Bundy for standing. His position and the subsequent support of militia groups and the American people may well be the turning point of Americans finally waking up to see that tyranny is at their doorsteps. If it is on Bundy's doorstep, it's on yours.

Militia are now speaking up. They are willing to take on the government with arms, if necessary. This has ruffled the feathers of Senators and Congressmen. Oklahoma Republican Senator Jim Inhofe is such an example saying, "you've got a bunch of people there trying to take the law into their own hands and they shouldn't be doing that." Well, Mr. Inhofe, if you and your colleagues were doing your jobs, Americans wouldn't be rising up. Wake up Senator. The wind of liberty is blowing. An unjust law is no law at all. Since law originates from God, law must be just or it is not law. It gets down to Acts 5:29, "We ought to obey God rather than men." Winds of liberty in obedience to God will break the chains of tyranny.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Another Attack On "Under God"

Another Attack On "Under God"

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 and formally adopted by Congress in 1942. The words "under God" were added twelve years later, and it is an interesting story how that happened.

One Sunday morning early in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower attended services at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church a few blocks from the White House. There he heard Reverend Dr. George MacPherson Docherty give a stirring sermon calling for the addition of the words "under God" to the Pledge. Docherty said that there was nothing in the Pledge that differentiated Americans from Russians. Russian school children, he argued, could recite a similar pledge to their country.

This prompted Ike to reflect on what made Americans different from their Soviet enemies--what set America apart. Of course, it is that we believe our liberty comes from God.

The next day, Eisenhower initiated the process of adding "under God" to the pledge. Soon after, Rep. Charles Oakman introduced a bill to add the words and the law passed overwhelmingly in both houses of Congress and was signed by the president.

Interestingly, given the current attacks on religious liberty and the overall trend toward restraining religious speech, I'm not sure such a bill would pass today, especially in Harry Reid's Senate.

The courts have gone back and forth about the constitutionality of the daily schoolroom ritual. In 2002, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declared the words to be an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. Then, in 2010, the same court ruled that the phrase could be left in because it invokes not religious faith but "our founders' political philosophy that a power greater than the government gives the people their inalienable rights."

Now "under God" has been targeted again. A national humanist group is suing a New Jersey school district on behalf of a family that believes the words "under God" discriminate against atheist children. The American Humanist Association claims that phrase "marginalizes atheist and humanist kids as something less than ideal patriots." This even though state law allows children to opt out of reciting the pledge.

I don't know how this latest fight will turn out. But I do know that the left won't be happy until all recognition of God is banished from the public square. Ronald Reagan used to say that if we ever forget that we are "one nation under God then we will be a nation gone under." He was right. (Gary Bauer)

Traditional Marriage A Winning Issue

Traditional Marriage A Winning Issue

Are social conservatives' views unpopular?

Left-leaning political commentators, Democratic Party operatives and the Republican establishment constantly advise the GOP to drop social conservatives' issues from the party's platform. Today American Values, along with Family Research Council, released the results of a commissioned national survey conducted by Wilson Research Strategies showing that 82 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning independents believe marriage "should be defined only as a union between one man and one woman." In fact, 74 percent of GOP voters strongly agreed with this statement.

It's time for Republicans to stop taking advice from people who want them to lose. As I noted in Politico today, "Public policy makers are doing a great disservice to themselves and future generations by continuing to misread the convictions of the American people, who overwhelmingly support the institution of marriage as a unique union of one man and one woman. The misinformation campaign waged by media elites muddies the debate and attempts to isolate those who support the time-honored traditions and values shared by every major world religion throughout human history."

"Incredibly, the debate is no longer about privacy and tolerance. Religious liberty, free speech and rights of conscience are now at stake. This survey should remind political and cultural leaders that this debate is far from over. If anything, it is taking on a new sense of urgency for millions of men and women of faith." Israel: Suspend UN Move or Toughen Sanctions

ISRAEL: SUSPEND UN MOVE OR TOUGHEN SANCTIONS

In wake of unilateral Palestinian move to seek further international recognition, Israel sends clear warning to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas

White House: Unilateral moves by both sides will not accelerate the peace process.

Israel has imposed economic sanctions on the Palestinian Authority in response to the PA's recent submission of applications to 15 different international organizations and conventions.

An Israeli official said that Israel would deduct debt payments from tax transfers that the PA routinely receives, and limit the PA's bank deposits in Israel. (Source: Intercessors for America)

Prayer point and verses, below, also offered by IFA.

Prayer Focus:

There is nothing new here. American Christians must live with the fact that our government continues to pull back from its fair support of Israel. This observation should guide our prayers. We know God is fully in control and has an ultimate plan and purpose for each of the nations. This includes the preservation of Israel. Pray accordingly, asking God to remove the veil so Israel will turn to the Lord, recognizing Jesus as Messiah. Isaiah speaks of a future day when light will come to Israel and the glory of the Lord will again rise over His Old Testament people (see all of Isaiah 60).

"But their (Israel's) minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away." (2 Cor 3:14-16)

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising." (Isaiah 60:1-3)

Massive NATO Force Deployment

Massive NATO Force Deployment

SUMMARY:

4/18
Pentagon announces U.S. will be deploying ground forces to Poland in resp to events in Ukraine and the buildup of Russian forces. Awaiting details from DoD.

4/17
Russian President threatens response if NATO moves military forces closer to its border. USGOV warns Americans to defer all non-essential travel to Ukraine.

4/14
Rising Tensions: Defense officials report Russian fighter jet(s) making multiple close-range passes near guided missile cruiser USS Donald Cook in Black Sea.

[Please note: the following is an excerpt from the full article. To get a sense of the massive size of this deployment, we strongly encourage you to go here for the full text of this article. Thank you for asking our God to intervene on behalf of all the people of this troubled region, for their protection. May His will be done. Amen.]
On Wed of last week during a nationally televised question-and-answer session in Moscow, Russian President Vlaidmir Putin made very clear that Russia will respond if NATO moves closer to the Russian border.

Further stoking flames in the region, Arizona Senator John McCain visited the capital of Moldova this week during which he urged the swift integration of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia into European structures, meaning the EU and NATO. His public statement came at the same time as the predominantly pro-Russian Eastern Moldovan state of Transdinistra again appealed to Moscow to recognize the region's independence.

Despite late week diplomatic efforts in Geneva where the normal talk of frameworks and paths forward were highlighted during follow-up press conferences, this is invariably diplospeak for not having accomplishing much and it is highly unlikely Russia, NATO or the new Ukrainian government will be backing down anytime soon.

This week the U.S. government issued an updated travel warning for Ukraine within which Americans were urged to avoid all non-essential travel to the country, and in particular, to avoid the Eastern and Southern regions due to the degrading security situation and growing anti-American sentiment. Victory! Dreadful Abortion Bill Stopped in Colorado

Pro-Lifers Stop Pro-Abortion Bill in Colorado

Thanks to the efforts of pro-life citizens, a dangerous pro-abortion bill was killed in the Colorado Legislature. SB 175 would have enshrined abortion into state law making it impossible to pass commonsense pro-life measures. Passage would have also threatened existing state law that protects women and preborn babies.

"It would have left it open for absolutely no regulation" said Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of issue analysis at Focus on the Family. "We're talking late-term abortions, informed consent and regulation of the abortion industry. This would have shut down any policy debate and prevented the passage of any pro-life legislation in the state."

Leaders of the Democrat-controlled Legislature claimed they had enough votes to pass the bill, but a flood of emails and calls from constituents and a prayer rally by approximately 1,000 people on the Capitol steps proved to be effective. Leadership dropped the bill without a vote. (CitizenLink) Read more here.

Signs and Wonders:

Astronomers discover most 'habitable,' Earth-like planet yet

Astronomers have discovered what they say is the most Earth-like planet yet detected --- a distant, rocky world that's similar in size to our own and and exists in the Goldilocks zone where it's not too hot and not too cold for life.

The find, announced Thursday (April 11), excited planet hunters who have been scouring the Milky Way galaxy for years for potentially habitable places outside our solar system. "This is the best case for a habitable planet yet found. The results are absolutely rock solid," University of California, Berkeley astronomer Geoff Marcy, who had no role in the discovery, said in an email.
. . . The planet is about 10 percent larger than Earth and may very well have liquid water - a key ingredient for life - on its surface, scientists said. . . (Fox News)

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

ABOUT CAPITOL HILL PRAYER PARTNERS

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." Today's Birthday

Today's Birthday on the Hill

Almost every day of the year, a member of Congress or a Senator is celebrating a birthday. Let's lift up these men and women, day by day in prayer on their special day, that God might bless them and show them His love for each one. Indeed, let's move together in obedience to the Lord's mandate in I Timothy 2:1-4. It is written:

"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Today's Birthday Greeting goes to:

Rep. Jim Langevin (RI)

Pray for the Harvest!

"Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." (John 4:35)

Every day, in every nation on earth, tens of thousands of men and women are making decisions for Christ. Now, you can monitor this amazing fact online by literally "watching" as these souls are born again into the Kingdom.

Of course, the identities of those who are coming to the Lord are never revealed, but our God knows who they are!

Join us as we monitor these "names" daily, praying over each one to be mentored and to grow in his or her faith . . . even in these perilous times. You may visit either or both of the sites below, to pray for fields that are ripe for harvest.
