Praying the Word of God . . .
in the Will of God . . .
over the Issues of the Day

(Isaiah 55:11)

Thursday, October 3, 2013

"I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting . . ." (I Timothy 2:8)

The Daily Brief

1. Shots fired near Capitol after car chase starting at White House - Fox News

Shots were fired outside the U.S. Capitol after a car chase that started when a woman tried to ram a security barrier near the White House, putting the Hill temporarily on lockdown in a chaotic scene Thursday afternoon.

According to U.S. Capitol Police, officers are injured. One person could be seen being carried off in a stretcher.

The lockdown has since been lifted, and those inside the Capitol are no longer being ordered to "shelter in place." Sirens had been blaring inside the Capitol when the shots were first reported.

- Our Prayer Watch team had just left that very corner minutes before this incident. We are praising God today that we are safe and sound, as are many others. As details continue to come in, offer praise to the Lord that this crisis was resolved quickly . . . please see more details, below.

- Psalm 91

2. Chemical weapons team arrives in Syria to destroy arsenal

A disarmament team crossed into Syria on Tuesday to begin the work of destroying its chemical arsenal, a day after United Nations experts wrapped up their investigation into alleged gas attacks. The team of 20 inspectors from the Hague-based Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) arrived in Beirut on Monday before crossing into Syria on Tuesday. They are unable to fly to Damascus because the road between the airport and the city is the scene of frequent fighting.

- Father we know that this action is only the tip of the iceberg in the fight against chemical weapons. We pray that any other caches of these instruments of evil will be found and destroyed.

- "He that hides hatred with lying lips, and he that utters slander is a fool." [Proverbs 10:18]

3. Breakthrough? Obama 'willing to negotiate'

Obama is willing to negotiate with the Syrian dictator he wanted to bomb for gassing his own people. He is willing to negotiate with the president of Iran and the Taliban. But, Obama said, "Absolutely, I will not negotiate" with Republicans. Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, finds that outrageous, and there is fury in his voice. "This is something fundamentally wrong with this president."

- Father, this president is so far out of control in every area that anger is running at a fever pitch. We ask for Your help in bringing peace to America; preserve us, Oh God, and forgive our deeply embedded sins. We call upon Your mercy and ask that You reign over us.

- "for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them" [1 Samuel 8:7b]

4. House Democrats reject GOP plan to re-open some parts of government

The newest Republican plan was to keep open national parks, veterans services and the District of Columbia, an approach modeled on recommendations of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has led the GOP's strategy in the standoff that resulted in the first shutdown of the federal government in 17 years. "If the Democrats are really concerned about funding the VA, let's fund it," said Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), as House Republicans emerged from an afternoon strategy session.

- Lord, we call for a wave of Your wisdom to come to this gridlock. We thank you for those standing firm on principles, and we ask that You give all of these lawmakers strategies that will work to make our nation stronger.

- "The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge." [Proverbs 18:15]

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts his trust in YHWH shall be safe." (Proverbs 29:25)

3. Netanyahu: Ayatollah Khamenei 'heads a cult' - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took to the US airwaves Wednesday, persistent in his effort to convince the international community that Iranian President Hasan Rouhani's charm offensive at the UN last week was an act meant to cover up Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions.

4. Ya'alon: Diplomacy with Iran must not be based on 'wishful thinking' - Times of Israel

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon on Wednesday acknowledged there were differences between Israel and the US on Iran, and expressed concerns over Western attempts to engage in diplomacy with Tehran, warning against "wishful thinking" in the face of duplicitous Iranian "sweet talk."

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"Remember the prisoners as if chained with them-those who are mistreated-since you yourselves are in the body also." (Hebrews 13:3)

Why is the World Silent as Christians Are Persecuted? - algemeiner

On September 22, dozens of Christian worshipers were killed at a church in Pakistan. Many more were wounded. The assailants were jihadist suicide bombers. This was not the first attack on the small Christian community in Pakistan.

In Egypt, repeated deadly assaults have targeted Coptic Christian churches. Some members of this ancient faith group, convinced they have no future in the Arab world's most populous nation, have emigrated.

In Iraq, the Chaldean Christian population has dwindled in recent years. Persecution at the hands of Islamist groups has been a key factor driving people out.

In Nigeria, periodic attacks by radical Muslim groups on Christian worshipers and their churches have brought widespread death and destruction.

In Turkey, the Greek Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarchate has had to face one bureaucratic roadblock after another.

In Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus, many Greek Orthodox churches have been destroyed or otherwise desecrated since the Turkish army first invaded in 1974.

And in Sudan, until the break-up of the country in 2011 that brought the nation of South Sudan into existence, millions of Christians in the south were targeted by the Muslim north, resulting in an unimaginably high death toll.

I asked a well-placed Christian prelate why the muted reaction, why the failure to take to the streets, demand action of Western governments, and demonstrate solidarity with co-religionists.

His answer was revealing.

He said that targeted Christian communities might face still more danger if voices are raised. But what has been achieved by yielding to intimidation, except for still more attacks?

He also noted that some Christians in the West didn't identify with Christians of different sects, such as Copts, Chaldeans, or Greek Orthodox. But this is hardly a justification. Is righteous anger only to be unleashed if "membership criteria" are met?

And third, he felt the most important thing Western societies could to was to set an example for the Islamic world by treating minority communities, particularly Muslims, well.

How many more attacks like the one in Pakistan, how many more dead worshipers, how many more destroyed churches, and how many more families need to flee before the world finds its voice, summons its moral outrage, demands more than fleeting statements of anguish by officials, and stands with those Christian communities in danger?

On-Site Report: Shooting at the Capitol

On-Site Report: Shooting at the Capitol

Many of you may not yet be aware that, every day Congress is in Session, we do have prayer partners who are walking the halls of the Senate and the House, praying for all in authority. We are also decreeing the verses on each Brief, each day, as prayer partners with you, across the nation.

Today was my day on the Hill . . . below is my report of what happened. Thank you for your own prayers of protection for the CHPP Captains, as they lift up intercession on-site daily on Capitol Hill. Amen.

In His Grace,

Sara Ballenger, Founder
Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

On-Site Report: Shooting at the Capitol

My prayer partner and I had JUST left the Hill a few minutes before the shooting broke out. We were literally on the corner of 2nd and Constitution Ave. NE, beside the Hart Senate Office Building in our vehicle [where the shooting occurred], praying protection for all who would enter in there, and for that area, and then drove on down to Constitution Avenue to pray for David's Tent. At that time, all was quite on the Hill.

A few minutes later, as we parked alongside the Ellipse (where the worshippers were ministering inside David's Tent), suddenly a large number of police vehicles were racing up Constitution Avenue in the opposite direction, towards the Hill. We immediately began praying in the Spirit, while we turned on our radio to WTOP (Local all-news radio.)

That was when we found out what had happened, and what was happening.

We were stunned . . . literally. We had JUST left that area!

We then began praying for our friends who work beside that intersection: the offices of ACLJ (Jay Sekulow), Faith and Action (Rev. Rob Schenck) and Men for the Nations (Dick Simmons). We prayed for protection for all of them, intensively!

I called my husband, who instructed me to come home immediately and not linger at David's Tent. Yes, Lord.

Meanwhile, even as we lingered in the car, it seemed that things were beginning to come under control on the Hill. The police had apprehended the shooter (praise God!) and the area was coming off lockdown . . .

We were also AMAZED that the Spirit of the Most High God had placed us right there, right then, to bless and to pray for all who were there, immediately before that shooting.

As I type this report, details are still unfolding but for now, everyone on Capitol Hill is safe and sound. We salute the Capitol Hill police force for their speed, efficiency and professionalism. They are probably the best in the world!

And we salute all of YOU, our partners in prayer (now numbering in the thousands and growing daily). God has heard your prayers today for "all in authority" and He has answered our prayers. Amen.

Pray for the Harvest!

Of course, the identities of those who are coming to the Lord are never revealed, but our God knows who they are! Join us as we monitor these "names" daily, praying over each one to be mentored and to grow in his or her faith . . . even in these perilous times. You may visit either or both of the sites below, to pray for fields that are ripe for harvest.
