The Daily Brief - Monday, August 22, 2011

"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work." (Rev. 22:12)

The Daily Brief

1. Wall Street Aristocracy Got $1.2 Trillion From Fed - Bloomberg

Citigroup Inc. (C) and Bank of America Corp. (BAC) were the reigning champions of finance in 2006 as home prices peaked, leading the 10 biggest U.S. banks and brokerage firms to their best year ever with $104 billion of profits.

- As more and more reports continue to surface regarding corruption and greed among governing officials, cry out to the Lord to have mercy upon our nation. May they soon be found accountable for their actions.

- " . . . And you shall know that I am the LORD; for you have not walked in My statutes nor executed My judgments, . ." (Ezekiel 11:12)

2. Consumer Edge says U.S. confidence hits new low - Reuters

Consumer confidence has fallen further after weeks of intensified economic concerns and broad stock market declines, and Conference Board data due later this month could be even weaker than current projections suggest, Consumer Edge Research said on Monday.

- This report should come as no surprise . . . for the believer, however, our hope is in the Lord -- not in the indicators cited above. Cry out for the unsaved in this hour so that, as they continue to lose hope in the world system, their hearts will insted be turned to the LORD for strength. He is waiting to receive each one. Amen.

- "He restoreth my soul. . . " (Psalm 23:3)

3. Biden: U.S. has never defaulted on its debt and never will - CNN

The United States, the world's biggest economy, has never defaulted on its debt and never will, said Vice President Joe Biden as he wrapped up his five-day visit to China on Sunday.

- As the people of America continue to turn their hearts unto the Lord in repentance, intercede that this level of repentance would satisfy the heart of God. If so, then perhaps the words of our Vice President will be true . . .

- " . . . if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. . ." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

4. Getting ready for a wave of coal-plant shutdowns - Washington Post

Over the next 18 months, the Environmental Protection Agency will finalize a flurry of new rules to curb pollution from coal-fired power plants. Mercury, smog, ozone, greenhouse gases, water intake, coal ash-it's all getting regulated. And, not surprisingly, some lawmakers are grumbling. Industry groups such the Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned utilities, and the American Legislative Exchange Council have dubbed the coming rules "EPA's Regulatory Train Wreck."

- Pray to ask the Lord how a solution can be reached. After all, He provided the coal in the earth for us to use. Of course, He expects us to use His gift wisely. During his 2008 campaign, President Obama said that he would bankrupt the coal industry. Let's make this a matter of serious prayer . . . God will show us a way!

- "Behold the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear." (Isaiah 59: 1)

5. David Cameron says Libyan regime is 'falling apart' - BBC

David Cameron has said the regime of Col Muammar Gaddafi is "falling apart and in full retreat". The prime minister said there would "undoubtedly be difficult days ahead", but the Libyan people were "closer to their dream of a better future". He said the UK could be "proud" of the part it had played, but stressed the future of the country - and Col Gaddafi himself - was up to Libyans themselves.

- While we welcome PM Cameron's optimism about the battles in Libya, the matter of exactly who these rebels are raises some questions. Are they really fighting for freedom from an oppressive regime, or are they representatives from the Muslim Brotherhood? Ask the Lord to move matters in Libya along so that a reasonable solution is reached. Pray for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to move into Libya.

- "The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord."
(Proverbs 21:31)

6. Report: Iran and Saudi Arabia Helped Al-Qaeda Carry Out 9/11 Attacks
- UK Daily Mail

As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, two authors who've analysed thousands of documents relating to the attack conclude that both Iran and Saudi Arabia helped Al-Qaeda carry it out. In the aftermath, both countries publicly stated that they'd fight terrorism and expressed their condolences, but The Eleventh Day, by Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, produces a compelling argument that they were actually complicit in the attacks. Read more.

- Here is a problem that just will not go away! Do we believe the Commission or the details of these two authors? Does it make a difference at this point? Ask the Lord to give you spiritual insights into the matter of 9/11. Also, request of Him what we should do with accurate information. May the Lord separate the wheat of truth from the chaff!

- "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidences in princes." (Psalm 118: 9)

7. Irene strengthens into hurricane as it heads for Haiti - BBC

Tropical Storm Irene has turned into a hurricane - the first of the Atlantic hurricane season - over Puerto Rico. Haiti, where hundreds of thousands of people still live in tents after last year's earthquake, is in Irene's projected path, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It is next set to hit the Dominican Republic, and may also hit Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas in the US.

- Abba, we thank You that Your mercies are new every morning, and that the wind and the waves obey You! We ask for Your protection upon Your people and their property as they look to You as their Shelter and their Strong Tower. We ask that the winds would lessen and dissipate as they make landfall, and that the people will call upon Your name, and You will deliver them. Amen.

- So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" (Mt. 8:27)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

1. Hamas Breaks Its Ceasefire 14 Times in 24 Hours - YnetNews

Hamas has repeated its past performance of declaring a ceasefire and immediately breaking it, firing more than a dozen more rockets and mortar shells on southern Israel Sunday night and Monday morning.

- Israel is right in her determination not to be drawn into battle with the PA, HAMAS, or even Hizbollah. She is also right to use anti-rocket weapons to take down the rockets sent from Gaza. Continue to pray for wisdom for P.M. Netanyahu and for Israel's use of anti-rocket devices, which are in limited supply. Keep a canopy of protection over the Israelis so that no more citizens are injured nor killed.

- "Through You we will push down our enemies, through Your Name we will trample those who rise up against us; For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our enemies and have put to shame those who hated us." (Psalm 44: 5,6,7)

2. IAF 'wiped out PRC's most important' leader - Jerusalem Post

The death of Abu Awad, who played a major role in the abduction of IDF soldier Gilad Schalit five years ago, has been described by his friends and family as a "severe and painful blow" to the Popular Resistance Committees.

3. Hamas officials go underground in fear of Israeli attack - Jerusalem Post

Senior Hamas security and political officials have descended to underground tunnels in the fear that Israel may try to attack them, according to sources within Hamas quoted by newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi as reporting.

- Editor's comment: the Israelis practically have to LIVE underground when the attacks begin . . .

4. Arab League to hold emergency session on Gaza - Jerusalem Post

The Arab League will hold an urgent meeting on Sunday to discuss an Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip that killed 15 Palestinians, a spokesman said Saturday.

5. Netanyahu: We won't carry out large-scale Gaza operation - Jerusalem Post

SPECIAL COMMENTARY

7a. Arab Nations Step Up Pressure on Syria at U.N. - Fox News

A U.N. human rights expert says Arab nations agreed Monday to demand that Syria allow an international probe within its borders to see whether crimes against humanity have been committed.

7b. Iran cuts Hamas funding for failing to show support for Assad - Ha'aretz

Iran has reduced or possibly halted its funding of Hamas after the Islamist movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, failed to show public support for Syrian President Bashar Assad, diplomats said on Sunday.

- Lord, it seems that these two news items are directly opposed to each other: one complaining about not supporting Assad; the other one wanting to investigate and/or sanction him. We know that in Your Word, You prophesied this conflict when You spoke to Hagar regarding Ishmael. It seems the only thing they are in agreement about, is their desire to annihilate their Jewish cousins.

We thank You that You will not allow that to happen! Father, we ask that You would use even the "wrath of man to praise You." (Psalm 76:10) We pray, too, that You who sets up kings and takes them down, would replace Assad with the person of Your choice -- one who would lead the people to cry out to You, and come to know You personally as the One True God. We know that You take no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Be merciful, O God! Amen!

- "He (Ishmael) will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." (Gen. 16:12)

The Qadhafi Conundrum

The so-called Libyan rebels have stormed Tripoli and are now within reach of toppling the 40 year radical dictatorship of Moammar Qadhafi. Qadhafi is no friend to America. He has been on the forefront of terrorism and was largely responsible for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie that killed 270 people in 1988. Prior to that, President Ronald Reagan ordered Libya bombed in retaliation for a series of terrorist attacks. Qadhafi's support of terrorism was quiet until the Lockerbie bombing. And later, Qadhafi denounced the al Qaeda 911 attacks. But al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood-sponsored terrorist groups have been seeking to overthrow Qadhafi since.

Notwithstanding, the US president is supporting al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood in the fight over who gets control of Libya. He said, "Tonight, the momentum against the Qadhafi regime has reached a tipping point. Tripoli is slipping from the grasp of a tyrant." The United States, at the order of the president, actually has worked very diligently to dress up the al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood-related terrorists to be acceptable to the West. Radical Islamic haters of Israel and America magically have become model citizens made up of doctors, educators and lawyers and paraded around to Capitol Hill and the parliaments of greater Europe to curry supporting worldwide terrorists over a terrorist dictator.
The US president appears to have embarked on a deliberate strategy to embrace radical Islam by partnering with Islamic organizations calling for the demise of the United States, and by assigning Islamists to key strategic positions that oversee the security of the nation, aspects of the judiciary, and are intimate aides to high level administration appointees. The Administration's public position is that these relationships are in the best interest of the United States in promoting tolerance in America and democracy in the Middle East. In reality, they raise poignant and unthinkable questions whether this president has violated his oath of office and several US laws by facilitating an Islamic takeover of America.

Therr is no lack of evidence documenting the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood at high places in the US government. Even Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's top aide Huma Abedin is directly tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood's public strategic plan seeks to overthrow America with a "civilization jihad" by infiltrating the local, state and federal governments. The US support of the Muslim Brotherhood's Arab Spring revolution throughout the Arab world is conducted in the name of democracy, where in reality it is the establishing of even more hostile Islamic control of Arab nations. Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Deception is the way of this government.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Libyan Draft Constitution: Sharia is 'Principal Source of Legislation'

by Lachlan Markay

August 22, 2011

The dust has not yet settled over the Libyan capital of Tripoli since rebels took control over the weekend. But already, a draft constitutional charter for the transitional state has appeared online (embedded below). It is just a draft, mind you, and gauging its authenticity at this point is difficult. There is also no way to know whether this draft or something similar will emerge as the final governing document for a new Libyan regime.

As both the Morning Bell and Washington in a Flash noted today, Heritage Fellow Jim Phillips recently pointed out that Islamist forces "appear to make up a small but not insignificant part of the opposition coalition," and must be prevented "from hijacking Libya's future." Parts of the draft Constitution allay those fears, while others exacerbate them.

Much of the document describes political institutions that will sound familiar to citizens of Western liberal democracies, including rule of law, freedom of speech and religious practice, and a multi-party electoral system.

But despite the Lockean tenor of much of the constitution, the inescapable clause lies right in Part 1, Article 1: "Islam is the Religion of the State, and the principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia)." Under this constitution, in other words, Islam is law. That makes other phrases such as "there shall be no crime or penalty except by virtue of the law" and "Judges shall be independent, subject to no other authority but law and conscience" a bit more ominous. A COMMENTARY FROM MARY MURPHY

Intercessors,

It seems that Libya has fallen and at some point in time, hopefully sooner than later, Gaddhfi will be on his way out-when they find him. Then it is a matter of governmental reorganization-the same that is happening in Egypt and the other Arab nations that are in revolution and overthrow or are in the midst of it. There is always a danger of what they will get. Will it be better or worse than what they had? Following is a preliminary draft for the new constitution of Libya. THIS IS NOT IN EFFECT-ONLY A PROPOSAL.

The entire set of proposed articles are below-just follow the link. When you get to the site, scroll down and you will find it.

1. PRAY AGAINST THIS NATION TURNING TO SHARIA LAW.

2. PRAY FOR WISDOM FOR THESE REVOLUTIONARIES THAT THEY DO NOT SELL OUT TO SOMETHING WORSE THAN WHAT THEY HAD.

Blessings, Mary

Police Credit Miraculous Turn-Around in Drug War to Prayer

(Knoxville, Tennessee)-The Scott County Sheriff's Department believes there is a connection between prayer and meth lab busts since community prayer services began several months ago.
Not only that, notes the report, but revival has broken out in the county as well.

"We have seen a 600 percent increase in drug arrests, specifically with meth, since we have had the prayer vigil...we have used every tool that we could to slow down the drug problem that we have here, and prayers have been the answer," said Chief Deputy Ronnie Phillips.
