Three Tributes to that Great Day in American History

1. Seizing D-Day


Thirty-two years ago today, President Ronald Reagan stood above the rocky crags of Normandy, France and commemorated the largest and most significant military operation in the 20th Century. To the brave men who survived D-Day, he said, "You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? . . . What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self-preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love . . . You all knew that some things are worth dying for."

So many tales of courage from that day have been handed down through the generations like fine heirlooms, knit together in the legacy of self-sacrifice. Today, 72 years removed from those heroic moments, the deep tradition that once burned bright in the hearts of our troops grows fainter with every policy issued by this administration. Apart from the size of the Army, which has nearly sunk to pre-World War II levels, very little about the military resembles the glory days of that epic campaign. And while brave men and women are still driven by a pride and calling greater than themselves, the ethos of the world's strongest force is being profoundly changed. 2. Remembering D-Day


Today is the 72nd anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of France that marked the beginning of the end of World War II.

America still has the most powerful military in the world. Its technological sophistication surpasses anything our leaders of 70 years ago could have imagined. But when it comes to having the moral courage to do what needs to be done to triumph over evil, our retreat from the values of the Greatest Generation has been nothing short of breathtaking.

On D-Day, President Roosevelt demonstrated that moral courage when he led the nation in a prayer for our troops crossing the English Channel. Below are some excerpts of FDR's D-Day prayer. Share them with your children as a reminder of America's rich religious heritage and the courage we drew from it.

"Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. . .

"They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and goodwill among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home. Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.

"And for us at home . . . help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice. . . And, O Lord, give us faith. Give us faith in Thee; faith in our sons; faith in each other; faith in our united crusade. . . Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen."

3. D-Day -"A struggle to preserve our republic, our religion, and our civilization . . ." - FDR


D-Day was JUNE 6, 1944.

Over 160,000 troops from America, Britain, Canada, free France, Poland, and other nations landed along a 50-mile stretch of the Normandy coast of France.

It was the largest amphibious invasion force in world history, supported by 5,000 ships with 195,700 navy personnel and 13,000 aircraft.

On that day, the sea along the heavily fortified beaches of Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, Sword and Pointe du Hoc ran red with the blood of almost 9,000 killed or wounded.

It was a major turning point in World War II.

1. Haniyeh: We won't give up on a Gaza seaport - Israel National News

Deputy Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has made clear that the group will not back down from its demand that a seaport be established in Gaza.

Haniyeh's comments came at a sermon this past Friday in a Gaza mosque. "The construction of a port in Gaza is the hope of the Palestinian people to break the siege on Gaza and we reiterate our adherence to this right," he said. "We will not back down from the seaport and we support and encourage the efforts made on this issue in order to obtain the right to force this occupier out of our land," continued Haniyeh. 2. Hamas tunnels crisscross entire length of the Gaza Strip, Israel says - Times of Israel

Hamas operatives can travel throughout the Gaza Strip entirely underground using the terror group's extensive tunnel network, Israeli security forces said Sunday.

Information about the tunnel system came from the testimony of a 17-year-old Hamas member who was picked up by Israeli troops last month after he illegally crossed into Israel from Gaza, the Shin Bet security service said.

The underage operative "belonged to the Beit Lahiya Battalion" in the northern Gaza Strip and "most of his activity was in the field of tunnels," the security agency said in a statement.

Through his testimony, Israel learned "Hamas is working to construct tunnels that are linked to combat tunnels throughout the Gaza Strip," the Shin Bet said. (Read more)


3. Israel 'engaging' with ICC over Gaza war inquiry - Israel Hayom

Israel is holding discussions with the International Criminal Court over the court's inquiry into possible war crimes during the 2014 Gaza conflict, the ICC's prosecutor said. The move would indicate a step-up in Israeli engagement with the Hague-based tribunal and a shift from a policy of non-cooperation with ICC probes of alleged war crimes in Palestinian territories.

An Israeli government source said there was contact with the ICC on procedural issues, but declined to go into detail. (Read more)


4. Pomp, fanfare and rain welcome Netanyahu in Moscow - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was received with pomp and fanfare in Moscow on Monday, as he arrived with his wife, Sara, for a two-day trip, during which he will hold his fourth meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in less than a year.

During a rainy official welcoming ceremony at Moscow airport, Netanyahu reviewed a guard of honor.

The prime minister and Putin are expected to discuss Moscow's involvement in the Syrian civil war, in which it is supporting the regime of embattled President Bashar Assad as well as its reported delivery of advanced Russian weaponry to Iran. (Read more)


5. Arab League chief: Netanyahu using Saudi plan to dodge French push - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent interest in the Arab Peace Initiative stems from his desire to elude the current French peace drive, the Arab League chief said in an interview published Monday, claiming further that the Israeli leader is also motivated by eagerness to expand trade in the Middle East - not reaching an agreement with the Palestinians.

Speaking to pan-Arab daily newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Nabil Elaraby dismissed Netanyahu's new openness to the Arab Peace Initiative, which calls for a full Israeli withdrawal from all territory captured in the 1967 Six Day War, in return for normalized ties with the Arab world.

"He doesn't really want the Arab Initiative; its terms are well known," Elbaraby said. The Israeli leader "only wants a way to enter the Gulf market to strengthen the economy," Elaraby charged. "We won't change the text of the initiative; why did Netanyahu wake up now? It's to get around the French efforts." (Read more)


6. Nearly 100,000 Sign On a Show of Support for Israel - Breaking Christian News

In honor of Jerusalem Day, a collection of over 93,000 signatures from Israel supporters worldwide affirming the Jerusalem Covenant, which proclaims the eternal unity of Jerusalem and its status as the Biblical and political capital of Israel, was presented to Knesset's newest member, Rabbi Yehudah Glick (Likud), by Israel365 founder Rabbi Tuly Weisz.
"This is so exciting, holding a book with almost 100,000 signatures of people from all over the world, who signed their name on the Jerusalem Covenant," said Glick upon presentation of the Covenant. "Jerusalem is the city of peace," he continued, "and here we see the words of the prophets materializing and becoming a reality, all nations coming together and signing the Jerusalem Covenant between God and Jerusalem and the world."

The Jerusalem Covenant was originally written in 1992 by Deputy Chief Justice Rabbi Menachem Elon to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Jerusalem's reunification. The Covenant is intended as a renewal of the original Biblical covenant between God and the people of Israel. (Read more)

My important responsibility as President of the United States is to keep our people safe. And that's why I just met with key members of my Homeland Security team, including our FEMA Director, Craig Fugate, here at FEMA's National Response Coordination Center. And Craig and his team gave us updates on preparations for the 2016 hurricane season, which starts tomorrow.

One of the things that we have learned over the course of the last seven and a half years is that government plays a vital role, but it is every citizen's responsibility to be prepared for a disaster. And that means taking proactive steps, like having an evacuation plan, having a fully stocked disaster supply kit. If your local authorities ask you to evacuate, you have to do it. Don't wait. We do thank you that our head of state has actually given a direct warning to our citizens at this time. 2. US Jewish LGBT leadership in historic Israel visit - Ynet News

Over 100 leaders of the US LGBT community came on an unprecedented trip to Israel to express solidarity with Israeli LGBT community.

The delegation was jointly organized through the US Jewish Federation and Israeli and groups. One of the goals of the trip was to help improve the dialogue between the US and Israel - primarily amongst liberal groups, which have a tendency to be more critical of Israel. (Read more)

We know the political winds are favoring the LGBT advocates in the United States and in Israel. We pray for those who identify as LGBT to have Your image restored within them. Let Your truth become known to this delegation, and move on their hearts as they visit the land where the Blood of Jesus was shed. May they be joined with Israel, not in sin, but in truth.

3. NY Governor announces boycott against BDS - Israel National News

Shortly before the annual Celebrate Israel Parade in New York on Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a new initiative to block the BDS movement that economically targets the Jewish state with boycotts.

Cuomo announced that he plans to put out a list of business and organizations that support BDS. He will also issue an order to all New York agencies to divest from the named businesses and to avoid any future relations with them.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, who just last week held the largest anti-BDS event yet at the UN General Assembly in New York, welcomed Cuomo's announcement.(Read more)

4. Pro-BDS Websites Being Targeted by Widespread, Systematic Cyber Attacks; Cybersecurity Firms Stumped by Identity of Attackers - Algemeiner

Cyber-security companies are working to uncover the culprits in a range of cyber attacks against anti-Israel websites, VICE News reported on Thursday.

According to the report, websites affiliated with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement are being targeted with various techniques aimed at taking them offline, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, in what appears to be a widespread, targeted campaign. The systematic attacks against the websites were uncovered by Canadian-based cybersecurity firm Deflect Labs, which offers its free services to protect the websites of independent media, human rights organizations and activists from cyber attacks.

According to a brief released by the firm on Thursday, the attacks show "a level of sophistication and commitment not generally seen on the Deflect network." The firm has received some $500,000 in funding from the Canadian government. (Read more)

5. Texas governor declares state of disaster in 31 counties due to massive flooding - Fox News

- Father, this video shows it all. We ask for divine intervention that the rains will now cease in the State of Texas, and its citizens have their homes and property restored. Lord God, again we cry out for Your mercy, in Your name, amen.

Just think, the worst is probably yet to come!

Let's start with the 'biblical' floods currently sweeping across western and eastern Europe. Days of downpours have caused ten deaths in Germany, two in France and Romania and one in Belgium. The River Seine in Paris is six meters higher than normal. (Read more)

7. Rep. Franks: 'All The Research Shows' Kids Do Better With a Traditional Family - CNSNews.com

U.S. House Representative Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), who formerly headed Arizona's subcommittee on Child Protection and Family Preservation as a state lawmaker, said the research shows that children are in the best position to succeed in life if reared in a traditional family with a mother and father, not with same-sex "parents" or divorced parents.

He also argued that the people who support homosexual marriage are not very tolerant because now they are trying to force people with religious convictions to affirm and enable their unnatural lifestyle. It is now to the point where you "will bake our [gay] cake" and "you will do what we say," said Rep. Franks about the same-sex activists. (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank You for the forthright position being taken by Rep. Trent Franks on this very volatile issue. May he be blessed as a result of his actions. Heavenly Father, we pray You would move upon the hearts of people in this nation for the benefit and protection of children, in the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

8. Massachusetts House rejects measure to ban male sex offenders from women's bathrooms - LifeSiteNews

Massachusetts is poised to enact sweeping legislation that would open all public restrooms, showers, and intimate accommodations to members of the opposite biological sex. In the process, legislators rejected an amendment that would bar convicted sex offenders from accessing the facilities of the opposite sex.

The bill (H. 4343) passed the state House of Representatives on Wednesday, 116-36, with the support of eight Republicans and the opposition of 12 Democrats.

The proposal would reorient state laws away from a biological understanding of sexuality by replacing the word "sex" with "gender identity" in existing state laws. It also requires "any public accommodation . . . without limitation" to allow people to use the intimate facilities of their preferred gender at the time. It now goes to reconciliation with the Senate. (Read more)

9. Obama Administration Scrambling to Release as Many Guantanamo Prisoners as Possible - CNSNews.com

The Obama administration is running out of time and options to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba, so officials are scrambling to release as many prisoners as possible and considering novel legal strategies that include allowing some men to strike plea deals by video-teleconference and sending others to foreign countries to be prosecuted.

But it looks to be little, too late to close the prison before President Barack Obama leaves office in January, denying him the chance to fulfill a campaign pledge.

There's the difficulty in transferring prisoners from the U.S. base in Cuba, questions about the legality of plea deals and solid opposition in Congress to anything that might help Obama achieve that promise. (Read more)

10. IRS finally reveals list of tea party groups targeted for extra scrutiny - Washington Times

More than three years after it admitted to targeting tea party groups for intrusive scrutiny, the IRS has finally released a near-complete list of the organizations it snagged in a political dragnet.

The tax agency filed the list last month as part of a court case after a series of federal judges, fed up with what they said was the agency's stonewalling, ordered it to get a move on. The case is a class-action lawsuit, so the list of names is critical to knowing the scope of those who would have a claim against the IRS.

But even as it answers some questions, the list raises others, including exactly when the targeting stopped, and how broadly the tax agency drew its net when it went after nonprofits for unusual scrutiny. The government released names of 426 organizations. Another 40 were not released as part of the list because they had already opted out of being part of the class-action suit. (Read more)

Standing with all Muslims


In very supportive and revealing remarks to the Muslim community, the "president" said he is standing with all Muslims during his statement on the "Occasion of Ramadan." He demonstrated his thorough knowledge of the religion many still believe he practices, if not publicly, in the deepest recesses of his heart. He began, "As another new moon heralds the start of the holy month of Ramadan, Michelle and I extend our best wishes to Muslims across the United States and around the world." He again pointed to the Muslim heritage "traced back to the very beginning of our nation." But there is one revealing statement that proved the intent of his heart and perhaps solves the hidden mystery of his true belief.

Underscoring the Constitutional right to religious freedom, the "president" said, "As Muslim Americans celebrate the holy month, I am reminded that we are one American family. I stand firmly with Muslim American communities in rejection of the voices that seek to divide us or limit our religious freedoms or civil rights. I stand committed to safeguarding the civil rights of all Americans no matter their religion or appearance. I stand in celebration of our common humanity and dedication to peace and justice for all." Did you catch the revelation? He said, "I stand firmly with Muslim American communities in rejection of the voices that seek to divide us or limit our religious freedoms or civil rights."

Again--he stands firmly with the Muslims in rejection of the voices that seek to divide US or limit OUR religious freedoms or civil rights. This sentence grammatically links the words "US" and "OUR" to "Muslim American Communities." This is from the official White House transcript on the White House website. It's not an oversight. The opening phrase of that paragraph in context also suggests the use of "WE" as referring to "Muslim Americans." In the ten years I have covered this person, this is the first time I have seen him directly identify with Muslims by using "we," "us," and "our." He mistakenly referred to remarks about his religion once during an interview as "my Muslim faith," but nothing ever this direct.

He ended the statement with: "I can think of no better way to mark my Administration's last celebration of Ramadan as President than to honor the contributions of Muslims in America and across the world for Eid. Ramadan Kareem." Sounds like a victory lap to me. Three insights here: 1) Islam's role in early America was one of slavery and hostility, 2) the "president" is distinctly using "we," "us," and "our" in speaking of the Muslim community, and 3) the Koran, in the strongest possible terms, does not support religious freedom, especially for Christians and Jews. Jeremiah 51:14 says, "Surely I will fill thee with men as with locusts and they shall raise a battle cry against you." The "president" has left no doubt.

The under noticed failing economy


According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 62.6% of the civilian workforce is employed. But the unemployment rate is only 4.7%. Ever wonder how 37.4% of the workforce is unemployed, but the unemployment rate is at 4.7%? A record 94,708,000 Americans were not participating in the labor force in May, an increase of 664,000 over April. Yet the government says unemployment declined by .3 percentage points. Some 1.9 million people in May alone have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more. Now the reason for the discrepancies is found in how the government manipulates the figures to make you think things are better than they are.

BLS defines unemployment as people who "do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior 4 weeks, and are currently available for work." BLS also says that some argue that this definition is too restrictive and BLS economists have posted an alternative in another section of the website. That definition is "Total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force" The unemployment rate according to this calculation is more than double the official government estimate, at 9.7%. It still doesn't account for 37% of the workforce not having a job.

CNSNews, reports some 14,179,000 Americans have left the workplace since the "president" took office. The only current sector of the economy that showed job growth was health care, which added 46,000 jobs, which is related to socialist health care considerations-in other words taxpayers are paying for this "increase" in jobs. But the "president" keeps spinning his yarn. He said in his recent weekly address: "America's businesses have created 14.5 million new jobs over 75 straight months. We've seen the first sustained manufacturing growth since the nineties. We've cut unemployment by more than half. Another 20 million Americans have health insurance. And we've cut our deficits by nearly 75 percent."

No matter how the politicians and the government want to spin the statistics, the fact remains that the US is under a tremendous weight of debt. Jobs are hard to come by. More people are on government assistance than ever before. And more people have given up on finding a job than ever before. This is a looming issue that seems to be overlooked by both politicians and media. Exodus 18:21 instructs on how to select leaders, "able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness." Truth and covetousness are the issues here. The truth is hard to find as it is skewed to justify the covetousness of taking your money and redistributing it to remain in power. Sinful leaders result in deficits of all sorts.

SUMMARY

Great sand seas, exotic oases, extinct volcanoes, and a nomadic people make for intriguing scenes and stunning landscapes in Libya's expansive Sahara Desert. Equally stunning are the ancient cities along the 1770 km (1,100 mi) of Libya's coastline on the southern Mediterranean Sea, home to most of Libya's 6.5 million people. These coastal cities showcase a diverse history steeped with the ancient Greek, Roman, and Ottoman empires and those of other invaders. This water poor but oil rich country's earliest inhabitants were Berber tribes, most of which have blended into the Arab majority today. Surrounded by Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Egypt in North Africa, Libya is experiencing political turmoil like several of its neighbors.

Vast oil reserves discovered in 1959 have made Libya one of Africa's wealthiest nations. Libya's recent past, however, has not flowed as smoothly as the oil that has fueled its economy and funded its government. For the last 42 years, Libya, under the dictatorship of Muammar Qadhafi (Gaddafi), has supported terrorists and developed weapons of mass destruction. Libya's activities resulted in UN sanctions which were formally dropped in 2003 after Libya accepted responsibility for several terrorist acts, dropped its weapons programs, and began combating terrorist groups in their country. Recent internal political unrest and violence has led to the collapse of the government and the death of Qadhafi. A transitional government is ruling the country with plans to make Libya a pluralist, democratic state. Economically, the new government will also need to address the problem of the nearly one third of the people living at or below the poverty line who have not benefited from Libya's oil wealth.
Libya is 97 percent Sunni Muslim. It is the state religion and under Qadhafi was seen as more moderate. The recent unrest has brought more radical groups to the forefront and it is uncertain what stand the new government will take on religious freedom. The small number of Christians in Libya are mostly immigrants from other nations. Few indigenous Libyans are followers of Jesus. Christian evangelism is illegal, yet slowly more Libyans are accepting Christ in spite of the probability of persecution. Radio, satellite television, and the internet offer viable and effective ways to evangelize and disciple, but Bibles and other Christian materials are also needed.

- Pray for the tiny Libyan Church to be united and established despite intense persecution.

- Pray for Jesus to reveal Himself to moderate and extremist Muslims alike.

The Persecuted Church

Unknown Assailants in Pakistan Open Fire on Church in Lahore


In keeping with reports, armed extremists opened firing at a church in Dhoopsari, Sandha near Lahore. The incident took place in the small hours, while the assailants managed to flee after firing, while the local Christians have expressed exasperation over the incident.

Local Christians revealed that at the time of attack, there was a complete power cut in the area due to which it was dark, and no one has seen the appearances of the attackers. They said that on June 4, Saturday the extremists attacked at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dhoopsari Sandha Lahore, at around 4:00 am.

Consequently, the local Christians informed the Sandha police about the attack, and the police registered an FIR number 597/16. The Christians told the police that five guns shots penetrated into the church premises piercing the main gate of the church. Locality' Christians complained that none of the Muslims of the area have expressed solidarity with them, nor have voiced condemnation. (Christians in Pakistan) Read more.

A Single Lightning Bolt Killed 21 Cows in South Dakota


[This is so sad . . .]

So far this year, five people in the U.S. have died from lightning-some after working outside, others while riding a horse or picnicking with family. Cattle have fared worse.

Last week alone, 21 cows in South Dakota made the grave error of gathering around a metal feeder while storms loomed. A single bolt hit the feeder, electrifying the animals and killing them all on the spot.

Cattle and other farm animals are often the unheralded casualties of severe weather. In another incident last week, a dozen more cows were killed by lightning while they huddled under a tree in Missouri. . .

The Moody County Sheriff's Office has posted this warning on their Facebook page:

This is a very strong reminder of what Lightning can do. As the severe weather starts to roll in this summer please keep this in mind. If you start to see lightning and hear thunder you need to get out of the open. Off of the Lakes, off of the Golf Course etc so that you are safe. 30,000 Take to the Streets in New York in Support of Israel


The night before the parade, the city's iconic Empire State Building was lit up in blue and white to mark the occasion.


Despite a persistent downpour of rain some 30,000 people marched through New York on Sunday in the annual Celebrate Israel Parade.

Hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, the parade, which featured floats with dancers, bands, and performers, made its way through Manhattan from 52nd Street to 74th Street.

Among those who took part were New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, a delegation of Israeli MKs and city mayors, Israeli Consul General to New York Ido Aharoni, and Israel's envoy to the United Nations, Danny Danon. (Times of Israel) Read more here.
