The Daily Brief:
"Praying for All in Authority"
Tuesday, June 9, 2015

" . . . but all the people shall keep the watch of the Lord."
(2 Chronicles 23:6d)

Below please find a photo, taken over this past weekend,
of two tornadoes under a massive supercell in Simla, Colorado.

" . . . in wrath remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)

A Rainbow Over the Supreme Court
This photo of the front of the Supreme Court was taken the night before the hearings on gay marriage:

Monday, April 27, at sunset. Please remain with us in prayer over the pending decision on traditional marriage until the verdict has been rendered.

" . . . from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. . . What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Mark 10: 6,9)

Thank You, Lord, for watching over this Court. In Jesus' name, amen.

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. Jerusalem mayor urges Obama to recognize Israel's capital - Times of Israel

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Monday urged US President Barack Obama to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, hours after the US Supreme Court struck down a law to permit Americans born in Jerusalem to list their birthplace as Israel in their US passports.

The landmark ruling, which backed the president's official stance on Jerusalem, was also fiercely criticized by MK Michael Oren - formerly the Israeli ambassador to the US - while the Foreign Ministry declined to comment.

"Just as Washington is the capital of the US, London is the capital of England, and Paris the capital of France - so too Jerusalem was and always will be the capital of Israel," Barkat said in a statement. (Read more)

2. 'Netanyahu failed in stemming tide of BDS against Israel,' Herzog says - Jerusalem Post

With the Israeli political establishment still up in arms over French cellular giant Orange's plans to end its business arrangement in the country, opposition leader Isaac Herzog (Zionist Union) took to the airwaves on Friday and accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to adequately address the specter of anti-Israel boycotts.

"Netanyahu has failed in dealing with this boycott," Herzog (Zionist Union) told Channel 2. "He is incapable of overcoming it. Instread, he is leading us to a Jewish-Arab state." (Read more)

3. Netanyahu: It's Not Too Late to Prevent a Bad Deal with Iran - Israel National News

It is not too late to stop a bad nuclear deal between Iran and the West, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the Jerusalem Post Annual Conference in New York City, in remarks made via video conference.

"Israel has no better friend in the world than the United States. And the United States has no better friend than Israel. I want to thank President Obama, the Congress and the American people for all they have done for Israel's security," Netanyahu said.

"But," he continued, "even the closest of friends can respectfully disagree about issues of international security. And of these, none is more important to Israel, to the stability of the Middle East and to the peace of the world, than the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program."

"Preventing Iran from being able to build nuclear weapons is the preeminent challenge of our generation," stressed Netanyahu. "We must understand that Iran doesn't just threaten the destruction of Israel; it is conquering huge swaths of the Middle East as it seeks to export its Islamic revolution across the globe." 4. Peace would pump billions into Israeli economy, new study shows - Times of Israel

Israel stands to gain some $120 billion (NIS 460 billion) over the next decade from a peace agreement with the Palestinians based on the two-state solution, according to an extensive new study from an American think tank.

The Palestinians would gain $50 billion (NIS 193 billion) from such a deal, according to the Rand Corporation, which measured current GDP growth rates, population growth rates and other factors to come up with the figures, released Monday.

The Palestinian gain would mean an average per capita income increase of about 36 percent, the group said in Jerusalem, while Israel, which has a larger economy, would see a more modest per capita gain. On the other hand, the study found that the status quo or a deterioration of the security situation would dramatically worsen both societies' economic standings. Even without the resumption of violent conflict, the international anti-Israel boycott movement alone could cost Israel about $50 billion in the next 10 years. (Read more)

5. UN: "Israel did not violate children's rights" - Jerusalem Online

The UN left Israel and Hamas off of the blacklist of countries and organizations that violate children's rights around the world, despite a harsh report accusing Israel of harming children during Operation Protective Edge. The UN Secretary General intervened at the last minute and prevented the serious political condemnation of Israel.

The UN emissary for children's involvement in armed conflicts, Leila Zrogi from Algeria, sharply criticized Israel in the report, and claimed that the IDF and Hamas harmed children during Operation Protective Edge. Sources claimed that Ban's decision to reject the recommendation of Zrogi was "very exceptional".

Israel's ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor said in response to the decision that "the Secretary General did well by deciding not to surrender to the dictates of the terrorist organization and the Arab states by adding Israel to the bloody list which includes organizations such as IS, al-Qaida, and the Taliban. But this is only the beginning of the work: instead of publishing thousands of reports and lists against Israel, the United Nations must condemn the terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip with unequivocal condemnation." 6. Ya'alon to Gaza Terrorists: Don't Continue to Test Us - Israel National News

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon on Monday evening spoke at a ceremony honoring outstanding reserve units at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem, where he had a simple message for Gaza terrorists: Israel will not tolerate continued rocket attacks.

"In the last few days we received another reminder about the complexity of the situation in Gaza, a hostile entity controlled by a murderous terrorist organization, Hamas, which is also being challenged by terrorist gangs affiliated with the Global Jihad movement," he said.

"In the face of this situation, Israel is conducting a determined and firm policy, but also a prudent and responsible one," continued Ya'alon. "During Operation Protective Edge, the IDF struck the terror organizations in the Gaza Strip, and if need be and we will continue to be challenged, we will not hesitate to act with similar intensity in the future."

"We will not allow anyone to disrupt the lives of Israeli citizens. We will not tolerate firing at our towns," said Ya'alon, speaking directly to terrorist organizations in Gaza. "Beware of continuing to test us, since only last summer we proved that we can strike the terrorist organizations in an unprecedented way. We will not be patient with attempts to challenge us." 7. Netanyahu: World is silent in face of rocket attacks on Israel - www.watch.org

A day after a rocket fired from Gaza hit Israel's south on Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leveled harsh criticism at the international community for its silence over a recent spate of rocket attacks while warning that a strong reprisal was forthcoming.

"Within a few days, we will conquer the Syrian border with Israel," an Islamic State member threatened over the weekend. (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. US Supreme Court denies 'Jerusalem, Israel' on passports, victory for Obama - Times of Israel

The court ruled 6-3 that Congress overstepped its bounds when it approved the law in 2002. It would have forced the State Department to alter its longstanding policy of not listing Israel as the birthplace for Jerusalem-born Americans.

Justice Anthony Kennedy said in his majority opinion that the president has the exclusive power to recognize foreign nations, and that the power to determine what a passport says is part of this power. "Recognition is a matter on which the nation must speak with one voice. That voice is the president's," Kennedy wrote.

The ruling ends a 12-year-old lawsuit by a Jerusalem-born American, Menachem Zivotofsky, and his US citizen parents.

Justice Antonin Scalia read a summary of his dissent from the bench, saying the Constitution "divides responsibility for foreign affairs between Congress and the president." Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito joined the dissent. (Read more)

US Jewish groups slam administration's 'hypocritical' view on Jerusalem - Times of Israel

ADL, AJC, Conference of Presidents express disappointment, concern over ruling barring Jerusalem-born US citizens from citing Jewish state on passport. (Read more)

- Lord God Almighty, if Jerusalem is not the Capital of Israel according to the U.S. Supreme Court, this ruling will bring a judgment upon our nation. Abba, how can You recognize our capital city, if we do not recognize Yours?

The Justices who sit on the U.S. Supreme Court are going to find out some day that there is a Supreme Court in heaven, and according to the Word of God, Jerusalem is the everlasting Capital of the Nation of Israel and place where the Lord of Lord and King of Kings will soon return to rule and reign! Amen! Amen!

Father, we repent for this action, and ask that You will yet show mercy to Your people. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen and amen.

- [Prayer for the safety of God's remnant]
"And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." (Ex. 12:13)
[Prayer for the safety of the city]
" . . . in wrath remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)

2. Obama says Supreme Court should never have taken up health law case, in blunt challenge - Fox News

President Obama on Monday bluntly challenged the Supreme Court over a pending ruling on the validity of ObamaCare subsidies, saying the court shouldn't even have taken up the case -- and warning that a decision striking down subsidies would be a "twisted interpretation" of the law.

. . . the president's comments on Monday, during a press conference on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Germany, were perhaps his toughest to date. He strongly suggested the court would be running afoul of established legal guidance if it rules against the administration, and took the rare step of saying the court should have stayed out of this fight. "This should be an easy case. Frankly, it probably shouldn't even have been taken up," Obama said.

The administration has argued in court that the subsidies are valid through both state-run exchanges and exchanges run through HealthCare.gov. Foes argue that the Affordable Care Act stipulates subsidies are only intended for those buying insurance on state-run exchanges. The court decision, expected any day, could have far-reaching implications because millions would lose their insurance if the court rules against the administration. (Read more)

- How arrogant and out of protocol, Lord, for this man to make comments such as this against the justices who will reveal their decision soon. We bind up the spirit of control in the name of Jesus and shut off the ears of the justices to inappropriate pressures such as this to control the outcome of this legal case. Father, we ask that You would make sure the decision rendered will lead away from unconstitutional socialism and again reinforce the US as providing the best healthcare system in the world for our people. We ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

- "To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice."
(Proverbs 21:3)

3. Schiff, King call on Obama to be aggressive in cyberwar, after purported China hacking - Fox News

Two top-ranking House lawmakers -- a Democrat and Republican -- on Sunday called on President Obama to go beyond the whodunit in the recent hacking of U.S. government computers, suggesting his administration must go on the attack. "We need to figure out when we're going on an offensive," California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told "Fox News Sunday."

Beijing says U.S. claims that China-based hackers were involved in getting into Office of Personal Management computers are unproven and irresponsible, but has not denied responsibility for the attacks. The security breach resulted in the purported identify theft of at least 4 million federal workers. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., a member of the House's Homeland Security Committee and former chairman of the chamber's Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said the United States must do more than it is doing right now. "We should not be afraid to use all of our tools to stop this," he told Fox News. (Read more)

- Father, may we use every tool at our disposal to stop these attacks. Give us protection from hackers who steal information from millions of people. Protect our computer networks on every side.

- "But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one." (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

4. Congressional Leaders Arrive in Laredo over Downed Chopper - Breitbart

Two members of the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee arrived in Laredo on Sunday for a briefing about a Customs and Border Protection helicopter that made an emergency landing after taking fire from the Mexican side of the border. They will be meeting on Sunday and Monday with officials from the Air Branch and Marine Branch Sector Headquarters.

Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT)mand Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) made the trip to south Texas to obtain additional information about the incident, according to a statement from Farenthold's office obtained by Breitbart Texas.

"Nothing is more important than ensuring our Border Patrol personnel are safe and have all the resources they need to do the job we depend on them for day in and day out," said Rep. Farenthold. "I'm in Laredo today because I wanted a firsthand assessment of the current situation at the border and to hear from the people on the front lines of our national security what Washington can do to put them in the best position to do their job and stay safe." (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for the quick response shown by Congress over this shooting incident in Laredo, Texas. We ask that all the facts be made known to those in authority, so that correct action can be taken to ensure that our Border Patrol personnel are safe, and that Mexican authorities be held accountable for this dangerous incursion on our southern border. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen and amen.

- " . . . the glory of kings is to search out a matter." (Proverbs 25:2)

5. Egg rationing in America has officially begun - Washington Post

In recent days, an ominous sign has appeared throughout Texas. "Eggs [are] not for commercial sale," read warnings, printed on traditional 8 1/2-by-11-inch pieces of white paper and posted at H-E-B grocery stores across Texas. "The purchase of eggs is limited to 3 cartons of eggs per customer."

H-E-B, which operates some 350 supermarkets, is one of the largest chains not only in the state, but in the whole country. And it has begun, as the casual but foreboding notices warn, to ration its eggs.

"The United States is facing a temporary disruption in the supply of eggs due to the Avian Flu," a statement released on Thursday said. "H-E-B is committed to ensuring Texas families and households have access to eggs. The signs placed on our shelves last week are to deter commercial users from buying eggs in bulk." (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, here is another stark warning that should awaken the citizens of the US that we are in trouble regarding our future food supply. We know we are a sinful nation and deserve judgment but we fall before You alone in repentance and ask for mercy, Father. We ask that You confront Your remnant to prepare for what is coming. We pray this in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth."(Psalm 124:8)

6. Task for Obama at Group of 7 Is to Reinforce Isolation of Russia
- New York Times

One year after President Obama rallied core allies to join the United States in punishing Russia for its bellicose ways, he will use a gathering on Sunday of the world's largest industrialized democracies to urge them to stand strong, and together, in isolating the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin.

But this time, Mr. Obama faces an additional challenge: It is not entirely clear that their efforts are working. The tough economic sanctions that have been the linchpin of American and European efforts to confront Moscow over its annexation of Crimea last year and its continuing aggression in Ukraine have, along with the lower price of oil, exacted a toll on Russia. They may even have helped deter Mr. Putin from escalating his intervention.

But they evidently have not forced him to give up his designs on Ukraine or to surrender Crimea, and many analysts believe he is playing a waiting game on the assumption that he can outlast Euro-American solidarity. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your intervention between Russia and Ukraine. We pray You move upon Vladimir Putin to relax his aggression in Ukraine. Give wisdom to the allies in their efforts to isolate Russia.

- "A man's heart devises his way: but the LORD directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

7. ISIS Likely Has Ability to Make Chemical Weapons, Warns Australian Foreign Minister - Christian Post

The Islamic State terror group's recruitment of highly technically trained professionals, including from the West, shows it could be developing chemical weapons, Australia's foreign minister, Julie Bishop, said.

"The use of chlorine by Daesh [the Arabic acronym for Islamic State], and its recruitment of highly technically trained professionals, including from the west, have revealed far more serious efforts in chemical weapons development," Agence France Presse quoted Bishop as saying in a speech in Perth late Friday.

"Daesh is likely to have amongst its tens of thousands of recruits the technical expertise necessary to further refine precursor materials and build chemical weapons," she added in her speech to the Australia Group, which works to deny licenses for the export of chemical and biological-weapon related materials. (Read more)

- Father, prevent the Islamic State from developing chemical weapons. Foil their plans on every side. Bring confusion to their camp. In Jesus name.

- "The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples." (Psalm 33:10)

8. Obama under fire for saying no 'complete strategy' yet to train Iraqis
- Fox News

President Obama took heat Monday for admitting he doesn't yet have a "complete strategy" in hand for training Iraqis to fight the Islamic State -- months into the coordinated campaign to defeat the deadly terrorist network.

"When a finalized plan is presented to me by the Pentagon, then I will share it with the American people," Obama said, adding, "We don't yet have a complete strategy."

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul said in a statement: "It is no surprise this administration does not have a 'complete strategy' for training Iraqis to fight ISIS. What is surprising is that the president admitted it." (Read more)

- Lord God, we call forth a spirit of wisdom to rest upon the mind of Barack Hussein Obama, that he will fulfill the requirements of the office he occupies, and move quickly to equip those who are fighting ISIS head on. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

- "Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path . . ." (Proverbs 23:19)

9. Netanyahu: The Palestinians ran from talks with Barak, Sharon, Olmert and now me - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the world to hold the Palestinians accountable for their continuing tactic of fleeing peace talks which Israel has always shown itself ready to engage in.

Speaking ahead of a meeting with visiting Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaora'lek, Netanyahu voiced his commitment to a two-state solution, but said that the Palestinians refused to engage in direct talks. He listed the long line of Israeli prime ministers who have attempted to reach an agreement with the Palestinians to no avail."They ran away from Barak; they ran away from Sharon; they ran away from Olmert; they ran away from me. " Netanyahu called the Palestinian tactic "a perfect trap." (Read more)

- We thank You for the supernatural wisdom the Prime Minister has had in discerning the tactics of the Palestinians and pointing them out to the world. We pray for peace upon the land of Israel and for wisdom for its leaders to continue. We pray for protection of all of their lands and people. Precious Lord, put the fear of God into those who think to attack them. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

- "Never again will you be call "The Forsaken City" or "The Desolate Land." Your new name will be "The City of God's Delight" and the "Bride of God," for the Lord delights in you and will claim you as his bride." (Isaiah 62:4)

10. Indonesia: US Embassy celebrates 4th of July earlier out of respect for Ramadan - Jakarta Post

The United States Embassy enjoyed its annual 4th of July celebration on Thursday, June 4, one month early, in order to respect the upcoming Ramadan month, which will begin on June 17 and last for one month.

US Ambassador to Indonesia Robert O. Blake and US Ambassador to ASEAN Nina Hachigian presided over the festivities, which involved brass band renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner and the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya.

He added that moving the 4th of July celebrations to June 4 was one done out of respect for the upcoming Ramadan month, which will last from June 17 to July 17. (Read more)

- Lord God, we believe You are offended by this move, as we are. Holy God, in Your Word, You warn us time and time again to not bow down to idols. Ramadan is all about worshiping a false God, where our national holiday was borne out of the Judeo-Christian tradition -- one which worshiped You and You alone. We place the Cross of Christ as a stake in the midst of this agenda, and we decree that this incident in Jakarta will "die on the vine" and not serve as a precedent for other American Embassies to follow. We say this in the name of our Lord Jesus, Christ . . . Father, forgive. Amen.

- "You shall have no other gods before Me." (Exodus 20:3)

Good News for times such as these

With all the bad news in the headlines, I often receive emails asking about how to cope with stress and anger over the condition of the economy and the moral condition of the nation. Many are out of work and cannot find jobs. Interesting that with all the government programs, many do not qualify to even receive help for food or other essentials. A couple people have written saying that they visited all the churches in their area, and none would help them--this truly speaks to the condition of our nation. Still others are stressed over the non ending wars and nation-building, the police state, the gloomy economy, the specter of homosexual marriage, and other declining issues of morality. How do we cope, they ask?

I have been writing about current events from a Biblical world view nearly every day for 13 years and six months. The news has not improved. At one time, prophetically inspired events occurred once every couple of weeks. Now, there seem to be several per day. Time is truly accelerating. I have often written that we cannot stop the march of prophecy, but we can determine our place in it. Certainly, my study of the end times suggests that things are not going to get better the closer we get to the return of Christ. I believe that the Lord has allowed my wife and I to experience very, very difficult times in the recent past to prepare us for the days ahead and to assist others as we experience those days.

The Holy Scriptures are the best means to cope. In them, you will find tremendous wisdom and solace. While reading them regularly, you will grow closer in your relationship with God. For my wife, during her long and death-defying illness, Psalms gave her hope and comfort. The other day I was feeling the need to hear from my Father in heaven. I picked up my Bible and just thumbed through some pages. The one I settled on for no particular reason happened to be Ecclesiastes 3. This is the chapter where Solomon says there is a season for all things. Most know of these verses, but we are not quite so familiar with the ones that immediately follow. My eyes zoomed in on Verses 11-13:

"He (God) has made everything suited to its time; also he has given human beings an awareness of eternity; but in such a way that they can't fully comprehend, from beginning to end, the things God does. I know that there is nothing better for them to do than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live. Still, the fact that everyone can eat and drink and enjoy the good that results from all his work, is a gift of God." This connected with my spirit. The gift of life is from God and we should enjoy it no matter what is going on around us. Let's not focus on the negatives, but rather on the gift of life and salvation. Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly. That's good news we can count on!

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Our Grandmothers' Songs

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

ETERNAL FATHER, STRONG TO SAVE

"Rescue me and deliver me in Your righteousness; turn Your ear to me and save me." (Psalm 71:2)

Lyrics:
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy Word,
Who walked on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our family shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect us wheresoever we go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

The Good News Corner

Abortions declining in nearly all states, survey finds

Abortions have declined in states where new laws make it harder to have them - but they've also waned in states where abortion rights are protected, an Associated Press survey finds. Nearly everywhere, in red states and blue, abortions are down since 2010. Explanations vary. Abortion-rights advocates attribute it to expanded access to effective contraceptives and a drop in unintended pregnancies. Some foes of abortion say there has been a shift in societal attitudes, with more women choosing to carry their pregnancies to term.

Several of the states that have been most aggressive in passing anti-abortion laws - including Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, and Oklahoma - have seen their abortion numbers drop by more than 15 percent since 2010. But more liberal states such as New York, Washington and Oregon also had declines of that magnitude, even as they maintained unrestricted access to abortion.

Nationwide, the AP survey showed a decrease in abortions of about 12 percent since 2010. (Read more)

- Father in Heaven, we praise You and rejoice over this wonderful report. What an encouragement to those who have labored for this kind of news and what hope for the unborn and for their mothers who have avoided a life-harming decision. We, however, pray for abortion to be completely eliminated from the culture of our country and from the protection of it by law. We ask this prayer in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen and amen.

- "The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death." (Proverbs 13:14)

Worship With Us Today!

Worship With Us Today!

"Then I heard Him speaking to me from the temple,(in Jerusalem) while a man stood beside me. And He said to me, "Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever." (Ezekiel 43:6,7)

In honor of JERUSALEM, the Capital city of ISRAEL, we offer this old hymn . . . for the city on a hill. . . (Lyrics only . . .)

Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
Thou city ever blest,
Within thy portals first I find
My safety, peace and rest.
Here dangers always threaten me,
My days in strife are spent,
And labor, sorrow, worry, grief,
I find at best their strength.

No wonder, then, that I do long
O blessèd home, for thee,
Where I shall find a resting place,
From sin and sorrow free;
Where tears and weeping are no more,
Nor death, nor pain, nor night,
For former things are passed way,
And darkness turned to light.

Now all for me has lost its charm
Which by the world is praised,
Since on the cross, through faith, I saw
My Savior Jesus raised;
My goal is fixed, one thing I ask,
Whate'er the cost may be,
Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
Soon to arrive in thee.
