The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Friday, January 9, 2015

"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." (Isaiah 43:19)

Honoring Andrae Crouch . . .

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse . . ." (Rev. 19:11)

The Daily Brief

1. Paris Hostage Situations Over - Breaking Christian News

(Paris, France)-In northeast Paris, the Kouachi brothers (Charlie Hebdo terrorists), holed up in a printing factory reportedly "came out firing" on security forces, and were killed. The lone hostage was rescued.

Shortly after, in the other siege location, where hostages were being held in a Kosher supermarket in Paris, there were reports of explosions or gunfire. Then police moved in and brought out a handful of hostages, and the gunman was reported killed. However, later it was reported that at least four hostages there were killed.

According to reports, all three Islamic terrorists killed were related to the same terror cell. (Read more)

- Father, we are saddened to hear of these terrorist attacks in France, yesterday, and now again, today.  France has a substantial Islamic population, however that has not worked to their advantage in avoiding Islamic terrorism. We ask, that somehow, no further lives will be taken, and that You will show Yourself to be the One True God, Who protects and defends His people! Amen.

- " Every man has become stupid and brutelike, without knowledge [of God]; every goldsmith is put to shame by the images he has made; for his molten idols are a lie, and there is no breath [of life] in them. They are worthless (emptiness, falsity, futility), a work of delusion and worthy of derision; in the time of their inspection and punishment they shall [helplessly] perish. Not like these [gods] is He Who is the Portion of Jacob [the true God on Whom Israel has a claim], for He is the One Who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance-the Lord of hosts is His name." (Jeremiah 51:17-19 AMP)

2. Paris prosecutor: terror suspect killed 4 entering grocery - CNSNews.com

PARIS (AP) - A Paris prosecutor says that four people who died in an attack against a kosher grocery were killed when the assailant entered the store - not when police tried to rescue them. He said that gunman Amedy Coulibaly killed four people when he entered the kosher market in eastern Paris on Friday. 15 hostages in the store were later set free. (Read more)

- Father God, we join with those who grieve the loss of these four customers in this kosher market . . . four who were undoubtedly Jews who kept kosher. We thank You that the assassins have been taken down, too . . . harsh as this seems. Father God, we continue to ask that this madness will come to an end, and that peace and stability be restored to the nation of France. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

- "... mourn with those who mourn . . ." (Romans 12:15)

3. We are Charlie: Hundreds gather in NYC's Union Square - MSNBC

Despite the frigid cold, over 200 people gathered in Manhattan's Union Square Wednesday evening in solidarity with the victims of a terror attack that took place earlier in the day, leaving 12 dead at the Paris offices of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

An estimated 200-400 people stood together in near silence at first, braving temperatures that dipped into the teens, holding signs that read "Je suis Charlie" - a phrase that translates to "I am Charlie" and has become the rallying cry of those showing support for the attack's victims. Eventually, the crowd erupted in song, including the French national anthem.

Attendees included French nationals, Americans and citizens of other countries who repeatedly chanted "We are Charlie! Nous sommes Charlie!," "We are not afraid!," and "We are free and proud of it!" Police presence was minimal.(Read more)

- Lord God, although these citizens think they are doing right in supporting the freedom of speech, in reality, this is a dangerous statement to make in the Spirit realm. As Christians, we are commanded to obey You and Your law . . . something this magazine never did. Instead, Charlie Hebdo made fun of everything and essentially held the position of an atheist. We ask you to forgive those who aligning themselves with this chant (We Are Charlie), setting them free instead to worship You and to serve You only in Spirit and in Truth. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God." (Eccl.8:13)

4. Al-Qaida member in Yemen says group directed Paris attack - CNSNews.com

CAIRO (AP) - Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula directed the attack against the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris "as revenge for the honor" of Islam's Prophet Muhammad, a member of the group told The Associated Press on Friday.

At least one of the two brothers involved in the attack travelled to Yemen in 2011 and either received training from or fought alongside the group, according to U.S. and Yemeni officials. A U.S. intelligence assessment described to the AP shows that Said Kouachi was trained in preparation to return home and carry out an attack.

If confirmed, the attack would be the first time al-Qaida's branch in Yemen has successfully carried out an operation in the West after at least two earlier attempts. (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank You that our prayers are being answered, and that, over time, more and more information is coming to light about the workings and the location of this evil terrorist network. We ask for no more lives to be lost until all suspects can be brought to trial -- especially in the nation of Yemen. Thank You, Lord, again and again and again, for hearing our prayers, in Jesus' name, amen.

- "The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous." (Proverbs 15:29)

5. Britain's MI5 chief warns al-Qaida in Syria planning mass attacks on West - Jerusalem Post

Al-Qaida militants in Syria are plotting attacks to inflict mass casualties in the West, possibly against transport systems or "iconic targets", the head of Britain's MI5 Security Service said on Thursday. Speaking after gunmen killed 12 people in an assault on a French satirical newspaper, MI5 boss Andrew Parker warned a strike on the United Kingdom was highly likely. (Read more)

- Abba, we pray Your protection against western targets in the U.K. and U.S. from these violent, senseless people.  We ask that You show them Who You really are, so that if they do desire to serve the One True God, they will turn to You, Whom to know is life eternal! If not, then we ask for all of their plans to fail, and may their feet be ensnared by the nets they have designed to trap others. Save Your people, O Lord, we pray. Amen!

- "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom You will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the God of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15)

6. French losing control over their country -Ynet news

French President Francois Hollande, the man who only several days ago instructed France's representative at the United Nations Security Council to vote in favor of the establishment of a Palestinian state, outdid himself on Wednesday when he declared that the massacre at the office of weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo was "a terrorist attack." What a quick, on-the-mark and accurate observation by the president, whose approval rate in this high-ranking position has hit an all-time low.

It was a "terrorist attack," as opposed to three other attacks carried out by Muslims (which also resulted in casualties) in the past two weeks in different cities in France, which the authorities referred to as "acts of mentally ill people."

. . . Allow me to predict that the massacre against the satirical weekly (which also mocks Jews, by the way) is only the beginning. Because if the French authorities, led by the anemic president, who mostly excels in juicy love affairs, will fail to act immediately and with all their might, they will lose control over their country. (Read more)

- Father, what a mighty God we serve!! We thank You that French President Hollande is finally waking up and "smelling the coffee" before his nation ceases to exist! Lord, put Your salve on his eyes, that he may see with clarity what evil is planned against his nation, and move with counter measures to thwart the plans of the enemy. And, we also ask that those Jews living in France will be "wooed" by You to make alyeah to Israel. Protect them we pray, Amen.

- "Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, the hearts of the sons of men are fully set to do evil." (Ecclesiastes 8:11)

7. Seismic series prompts Dallas suburb to examine emergency plans - Yahoo.com

Seismologists installed more earthquake-monitoring devices in the Dallas suburb of Irving on Thursday as officials examined contingency plans after a series of temblors raised concerns for the area near the former Dallas Cowboys football stadium. (Read more)

- Lord of Creation, we thank You for Your great love for Your people, and Your creative ways of getting their attention! It seems the whole earth if pulsating, anticipating the soon arrival of upheaval, such as this world has never seen, or experienced. We do come against fear that would try to "paralyze" those who need to call out to You. We thank You that You do rule the nations, and that You alone are God. We ask that many will look at the political upheaval, and the extremes in the physical earth, and realize that indeed the whole earth is groaning and travailing. You are stability in an unstable world, You are our Rock, and our Salvation. Amen!

- "The name of Adonai is a strong tower; a righteous person runs to it and is raised high [above danger]. The wealth of the rich is his fortified city, like a high wall, in his own imagination." (Proverbs 18:10,11)

8. Snow, Extreme Cold Plague Much of US - BBC

Snow and frigid temperatures have stopped or complicated travel plans in much of the United States. Residents in the nation's capital, Washington, awoke Tuesday to more than 12 centimeters of snow. The snow caused U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to cancel his trip north to attend former New York Governor Mario Cuomo's funeral. In Illinois, wind chills as low as minus 30 were forecast to move in behind a storm that dropped as much as 6 inches of snow on parts of the state.

- Lord, we ask for mercy for the millions of people being adversely effected by these extreme winter conditions in our land. We ask for more moderate temperatures to prevail. Please insulate and protect the homeless, elderly, and others in need of warmth. Thank You for Your faithfulness and provision for all our needs. Amen.

- "God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. For He says to the snow, Fall on the earth; likewise He speaks to the showers and to the downpour of His mighty rains. God seals up (stops, brings to a standstill by severe weather) the hand of every man [and now under His seal their hands are forced to inactivity], that all men whom He has made may know His doings (His sovereign power and their subjection to it)." (Job 37:5-7)

9. * US-Cuba Normalization Talks to Take Place January 21 - VOA U.S.-Cuba talks on normalizing ties will take place in Havana on January 21-22, the U.S. State Department said on Thursday, as Cuba freed six more detainees as part of the two countries' rapprochement. Assistant Secretary of State Roberta Jacobson, the top U.S. diplomat for Latin America, will visit Cuba for the meetings, which were originally scheduled to discuss migration but will now cover normalizing ties after more than 50 years of enmity.

- Father, we ask for Your wisdom to be given to those who are involved in these talks. A quote from our former President, Ronald Reagan, comes to mind regarding negotiating with your enemies, or former enemies, and that is: "Trust, but Verify"!  We do pray that this will be followed with regard to Cuba, who has been an enemy of the U.S. for over 50 years. Lord, we look to You for Your direction and safeguards. We pray that those who conduct these negotiations will be chosen by You to represent the best interests of our nation. Our trust is in You! Reveal that which would be hidden, that we may know our enemy and walk in divine guidance. In Your Name we pray, Amen.

- "You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it. Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness." (Proverbs 8:5-7)

10. Landmark Paris synagogue closes on Shabbat for first time since World War II - Jerusalem Post

The Grand Synagogue of Paris shuttered ahead of Shabbat services on Friday night in the wake of a series of terror attacks across the city, including one siege on a Jewish market by an Islamic extremist.

The synagogue was evacuated during the event, Le Monde reported on Friday, and did not reopen for services on Friday night. Friday's closure marks the first time since World War II the synagogue, a Paris landmark, was not open for worship on the sabbath, according to the Orthodox Union.

"The Jewish community feels itself on the edge of a seething volcano," said Dr. Shimon Samuels, the Paris-based director for international relations at the Simon Wiesenthal Center. "Hostages in a kosher supermarket held [up] by an African jihadist, who reportedly already killed two victims . . The scenes are out of a war movie," he said. "But the war is undeclared as long as the sickness is not publicly named as a state of emergency. A culture of excuse exonerates the perpetrators as 'disaffected, alienated, frustrated, unemployed.' No other group of frustrated unemployed has resorted to such behavior." (Read more)

- Father, this news makes us so sad . . . Thank You for protecting Your people, Lord; please help them to quickly resume worship in this beautiful synagogue in Paris. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

- All of Psalm 91 for the Jews in France.

3. Hamas accuses PA of neglecting Gaza Strip - Jerusalem Post

Hamas officials on Thursday accused the Palestinian Authority government of turning its back on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and called for rescinding the last reconciliation agreement between the two parties.

Hamas's fury came in response to the PA government's announcement that it would not pay salaries to civil servants employed by Hamas since it took control over the Gaza Strip in 2007.

The government said it would not be able to fulfill its responsibilities toward the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip unless it's allowed to regain full control over the area. (Read more)

7. Senior CNN Man in Bizarre Anti-Israel Tirade after Paris Attack -Israel National News

CNN's veteran news anchor and international correspondent Jim Clancy has provoked controversy after a series of bizarre anti-Israel tweets following Wednesday's deadly terrorist attack in Paris.

Journalists throughout the world and from across the political spectrum reacted with horror at the slaughter of 12 people at Charlie Hebdo's Paris offices yesterday. The satirical magazine was targeted by Muslim extremists wielding Kalashnikov rifles, after years of threats and previous attacks by Islamists over several cartoons it published which mocked Islam and Muslim leaders - in addition to countless others mocking other religious and secular figures.

Clancy, however, took exception to the claim that the magazine was attacked for insulting Islam, claiming instead that "The cartoons NEVER mocked the Prophet. They mocked how the COWARDS tried to distort his word." (Read more)

8. Palestinians say ICC can examine war crimes allegations now -Times of Israel

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court can immediately start examining allegations of war crimes against Israel if she chooses, the Palestinian UN ambassador said Thursday.

Riyadh Mansour told a group of reporters that Palestine's formal acceptance of the court's jurisdiction starting June 13, 2014 gives prosecutor Fatou Bensouda a green light to take up the question of alleged war crimes on Palestinian territory without waiting for Palestine to formally become a member of the court on April 1. Prophecy Clock--US now arming Iranian militias

The bizarre foreign policy of the United States just keeps getting worse. Bloomberg reports that the US has been inadvertently arming Iranian Islamists who are fighting the Islamic State. This comes on the heels of the president's end-of-2014 proclamation that Iran could become "a very successful regional power" and that he could see the US reopening an embassy there. That the White House is allowing the arming of America's enemies is extremely alarming, but it is nothing new. Since this president took office, US tax dollars have been routinely spent on arming Islamic terrorists, likely dating back to before the White House-inspired Arab Spring revolutions in 2010.

Rewind to June 15, 2011, when the White House presented a 38 page report attempting to justify the war in Libya. The president made a humanitarian case for offensive military action in Libya. House Speaker John Boehner informed the "president" that he would be in violation of the War Powers Act and the Constitution if the war did not end by June 17. US involvement in the Libyan war continued through October 2011. The president claimed that he was within his authority to continue the war without Congressional approval. It was revealed that US tax dollars were used to fund al Qaeda operatives to overthrow the Libyan government--many of those operatives had been fighting against US soldiers in Iraq.

It didn't stop there. The "president" continued funding revolution throughout the Middle East, using the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda as proxies in attempts to overthrow Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, and Syria. The Syrian effort became even more muddled as the White House was once again caught sending US arms to al Qaeda-linked "rebels" to oust the Assad government. Then entered the release of Abu Bakr al-baghdadi from an Iraqi prison and the training of Islamic insurgents in Jordan, who eventually united with Bakr to form the Islamic State (IS). Then the president made a big show of "bombing" the IS, but in reality it became stronger and is a stronghold for international terror and barbarism.

Now, Bloomberg reports that Ambassador Jim Jeffrey, the US envoy to Baghdad from 2010-2012, confirmed that the Iraqi government has been transferring US weapons to Iranian Islamists for years. White House spokesman Alistair Baskey said the administration did not "have any reason to believe" such transfers were occurring. Here we have a US "president" arming the enemies of America and of God with impunity. The prophetic impact is enormous as these are the traditional enemies of Israel who are being armed and strengthened by US tax dollars and US leadership. Consequences? In Zechariah 12:9, the Lord says that in that day, "I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

A Fifth Column?

A Fifth Column?

These were not isolated events. Coulibaly and the Kouachi brothers were part of a radical Islamist group in France called the "Buttes Chaumont" cell, named after a Paris park. The men had extensive criminal histories, and their desire to wage jihad was known to intelligence officials.

The larger reality is that there are an unknown number of such cells throughout Western Europe and here in the United States. Some may be affiliated with Al Qaeda, some with ISIS, some with Hezbollah or Hamas. (By the way Hezbollah is very active throughout South America, something that we have often noted during debates involving our porous borders.)

Nigel Farage, leader of a populist party in Great Britain called the UK Independence Party (UKIP), warned that the Paris attacks are the bitter fruit of the left's devotion to political correctness and multiculturalism. Farage said:

"We now have within many European countries, and dare I say it, within the U.S.A. too, a fifth column living within our own countries. . . people who are out to destroy a whole civilization and our way of life. . . So let's recognize the mistakes we've made. . . .

"We have promoted multiculturalism. We have promoted division within our societies. We have said to large numbers of people, 'You can come here from any part of the world. Oh, by the way, please don't bother to learn our language, don't integrate in any way at all. You can take over whole parts of our towns and cities and we'll say it's made us a wonderful diverse nation.' That hasn't worked."

Paris Siege Ends

Paris Siege Ends

Two hostage crises in Paris were resolved today. Cherif and Said Kouachi, the two jihadists responsible for Wednesday's slaughter at Charlie Hebdo, seized a hostage and entered a printing plant outside of Paris. They told police that they wanted to die as martyrs. They got their wish.

Not long after the police cornered the Kouachi brothers, a second jihadist attack erupted at a kosher market in Paris. Four hostages were reportedly killed. Amedy Coulibaly, the radical Islamist responsible for that incident, murdered a French policewoman yesterday. He is also dead.

Out of an abundance of caution, French authorities immediately ordered all shops in Paris' Jewish district to be closed. While I understand the concern, it is a sad echo of events in the 1930s when Jewish stores were closed for their own safety and that decade ended with Jews in cattle cars.

French Jews have been the targets of increasing jihadist violence for years now. In 2012, a rabbi and three children were shot at a Jewish school in Toulouse, France. Last summer French synagogues were attacked by Muslim mobs. The list goes on.

Anti-Semitism in France has gotten so bad that Natan Sharansky of the Jewish Agency said recently that 50,000 French Jews requested information about emigrating to Israel last year.

Somewhere in hell, Hitler is smiling. (Gary Bauer)

Tracking U.S. Weapons Overseas

Iran-Backed Militias Are Getting U.S. Weapons

U.S. weapons intended for Iraq's beleaguered military are winding up in the possession of the country's Shiite militias, according to U.S. lawmakers and senior officials in the Barack Obama administration. These sources say that the Baghdad government, which was granted $1.2 billion in training and equipment aid in the omnibus spending bill passed last month, is turning hardware over to Shiite militias that are heavily influenced by Iran and have been guilty of gross human-rights violations.

One senior administration official told us that the U.S. government is aware of this, but is caught in a dilemma. The flawed Iraqi security forces are unable to fight Islamic State without the aid of the militias, who are often trained and sometimes commanded by officers from Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps. And yet, if the U.S. stopped sending arms to the Iraqi military, things would get even worse, with IS overrunning more of the country and committing human-rights horrors on a broader scale. The risk of not aiding them was greater than the risk of aiding them, the official said, adding that this didn't mean the administration was unconcerned about the risks involved. (Bloomberg) Read more here.

- Lord God, we repent for our foolishness in allowing this to happen. We ask, Lord, that Your Hand of divine intervention would fall upon these terrorists, and that these weapons, when fired, would not fire. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Call upon Me and I will show you great and mighty things, that you know not." (Jer. 33:3)

The Left's Surrender

The Left's Surrender

Listening to many talking heads over the past few days, it seems that some on the left have already surrendered. For example, former Carter advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski referred to "The Prophet" this morning, while noting how terribly offensive those cartoons were. It reminded me of Obama's remark before the United Nations in 2012 when he said, "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam."

It struck me that Brzezinki wasn't the only person I have heard in the last 48 hours who referred to Muhammad as "The Prophet." I don't recall any commentator in recent weeks referring to "Jesus, the son of God" or "Jesus, the Messiah."

Is the fact that some reporters feel compelled to refer to Muhammad as "The Prophet" a sign that Islamism is winning as the corpses pile up?

The media have an obvious double standard. Dean Baquet, executive editor of the New York Times, decided that his paper would not publish the cartoons run by Charlie Hebdo. Baquet did not want to offend the "sensibilities of Times readers, especially its Muslim readers." Yet, it has no qualms about offending Christians and Jews.

Here's another disturbing example of self-censorship. A female journalist at Charlie Hebdo was told by one of the attackers, "I'm not going to kill you because you're a woman, we don't kill women, but you must convert to Islam, read the Quran and cover yourself."

That quote directly tying the attack to Islam was removed from a New York Times column.

Imagine a different scenario. Suppose a gunman burst into an abortion clinic and told a woman there just before shooting the abortionist, "I'm not going to kill you because you're a woman, we don't kill women, but you must convert to Christianity, read the Bible and submit to your husband."

Does anyone think for a second that the New York Times would drop that quote out of concern for the sensibilities of its Christian readers? Of course not!

That exchange would be on the front page, held up as Exhibit A for why every pastor must denounce the "radical pro-life movement." (Gary Bauer)

The Good News Corner

In the Midst of Terror-NOT AFRAID

I was reminded of the Apostle Paul's encouragement to Timothy (and all Believers) that "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind."

But as I watched the various responses from around the world unfold on my computer screen, the one that struck me the most was the Wednesday night vigil in the Place de la Republique, Paris.

The entire square was filled with people; there to honor those slain in cold blood that day, and there to make a statement-a very important statement:

NOT AFRAID.

Those words were spelled out in lights and hung among the huge crowd.

News reports said the gathering there was very quiet considering the amount of people. However, the pens held high in the air-to signify a solidarity with those who value freedom of speech-and their signs that read, "Je Suis Charlie," (I Am Charlie)-again a statement of support for the magazine Charlie Hebdo; the target of the Jihadists-spoke loud and clear.

As did those words in lights: NOT AFRAID.
