The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Thursday, August 28, 2014

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse . . ." (Rev. 19:1)

The Daily Brief

1. Al Qaeda magazine hints of looming attack; urges bombing of Vegas, military targets - Fox News

A new English-language Al Qaeda magazine features a how-to article on making car bombs and suggests terror targets in the United States, including casinos in Las Vegas, oil tankers and military colleges, and implies that an attack is imminent.

The online publication, called "Palestine-Betrayal of the Guilty Conscience Al-Malahem" and put out by the media arm of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, calls for Muslims around the world to follow "the recipe" provided to set off car bombs in crowded venues. It includes a timeline of "selected jihadi operations" that the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), which first flagged the slickly-produced latest edition of the terror publication, finds chilling.

"There could be some envy by AQAP that IS is now getting all the headlines," Stalinsky said in response to the probability of an Al Qaeda-backed attack. There is also a list of targets in Britain including a military academy and the Marks and Spencers chain of department stores. The magazine calls for the stores to be hit on Friday during prayers so that Muslims won't be affected. (Read more)

- Father even former military commanders continue to warn of impending disaster from our foreign policy. We pray that You would stand fast with us against the terrorists and protect our nation from another 9-11.

- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17a)

2. Mass Slaughter in our Schools: the Terrorist's Chilling Plan - Killology.com

Probably the last place you want to think of terrorists striking is your kids' school. But according to two trainers at an anti-terrorism conference on the East Coast, preparations for attacks on American schools that will bring rivers of blood and staggering body counts are well underway in Islamic terrorist camps.

The intended attackers have bluntly warned us they're going to do it.

They're already begun testing school-related targets here. They've given us a catastrophic model to train against, which we've largely ignored and they've learned more deadly tactics from.

"We don't know for sure what they will do. No one knows the future. But by definition, a successful attack is one we are not ready for," declared one of the instructors, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. Our schools fit that description to a "T"-as in Terrorism and Threat.

. . . A "dress rehearsal for what terrorists plan to do to us" has already taken place, Rassa and Grossman agreed. That was the brutal takedown in 2004 of a school that served children from 6 to 17 years old in Beslan, Russia.

Some 100 terrorists were involved, nearly half of whom were discreetly embedded in the large crowd of parents, staff and kids who showed up for the first day of school; the rest arrived for the surprise attack in SUVs, troop carriers and big sedans. Across a three-day siege, 700 people were wounded and 338 killed, including 172 youngsters. . . (Read more)

- As our children prepare to return to school next week (and some have already begun), please pray a covering of the Blood of the Lamb over the campus. God's angels are ready to protect our little ones; indeed, each child has a guardian angel assigned to do just that.

Even though this article was written in 2006, its words still ring out today as true. Thank You, God, for this warning; may we all take heed on behalf of our children. In Jesus' Name, amen.

- "For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways." (Psalm 91:11)

3. Putin Strikes - Gary Bauer

Putin is tightening his noose around Ukraine. While Russian troops on leave have reinforced flagging separatists in eastern Ukraine, two columns of Russian tanks and armored fighting vehicles invaded southeastern Ukraine and seized a town on the Sea of Azov, creating a second front. A Ukrainian military spokesman said, "Our border servicemen and guardsmen retreated as they did not have heavy equipment."

The White House announced this morning that Obama will meet with his National Security Council this afternoon. They certainly have a lot to discuss. For example, how will Obama respond to Putin's latest act of aggression?

So far, Obama has refused to do the one thing that could make a difference -- arm the Ukrainian forces. For months they have been requesting access to better, heavier weapons. Instead, we are giving them socks. . . The pattern here is stark. Not only does Obama lead America's retreat from the world, but he and the left are also hesitant to supply assistance to those willing to fight for their own liberty.

- Lord God Almighty, how is one supposed to fight an army as well-equipped as Putin's using . . . socks?? This nation needs to begin putting our money where our mouth is and become the true ally of any who are fighting for freedom in other lands. We ask You to forgive this president, for (for whatever reason), he knows not what he does. We call forth every provision needed so that the freedom fighters in Ukraine will be successful in battling Putin's communist army and defending their own nation. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

- "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 4:19)

4. Bureaucrats gone wild: Feds describe racial hostility, discrimination inside new Obama agency - Washington Times

America's newest federal agency, charged with regulating financial institutions to prevent another hostile economic downturn, is having troubles regulating hostilities and discrimination among its own employees.

Evidence gathered by congressional investigators, internal agency documents and Washington Times interviews with workers discloses scores of cases of U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau employees seeking protection from racially offensive, sexist or discriminatory behavior . . . (Read more)

- Lord the hatred that is being shown by this administration has been unleashed not only across the country, but within their own ranks. In particular, we lift up the situation in the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, described in this report, as a "first fruits offering" of our prayer for all that has gone wrong in race relations in our land.

We take authority over that spirit of hate and murder, dishonor and disrespect, and bind it in the Name of Jesus Christ. We apply the Cross of Christ against it and loose the Holy Spirit of the Living God into that situation.

- "Through God we shall do valiantly: for He it is that shall tread down our enemies." (Psalm 60:12)

5. Bombshell email from CDC whistleblower reveals criminality of vaccine cover-up as far back as 2002 - Natural News

CDC scientists who conspired to commit scientific fraud in order to obscure the link between the MMR vaccine and autism knew that they might have been engaged in criminal acts as far back as 2002, documents now show. (Learn more)
- Lord there are so many cover-ups, lies, and twisting of the facts present in our government. We ask that your mercy prevail over the victims of this vaccine disaster. Heal those who were affected, and continue to bring truth to light.

- "Our fathers trusted in You, and were delivered: they trusted in You and were not disappointed." (Psalm 22:4)

6. Transgendered Military Should Be Allowed to Serve Openly, Report Says - Washington Times

Gay military service personnel may now serve openly, and now former top Pentagon officials believe that another group should be afforded the same treatment: transgendered Americans. (Read more)

- Lord, once again we are being called upon to condone sin. We cannot condone that which is an abomination to You. We pray that You would visit these Pentagon officials and show them truth.

- "But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God." (Romans 2:5)

7. U.S. Banks Hit by Hackers - New York Post

Computer hackers targeted JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and at least four other banks in a coordinated attack on major financial institutions this month. (Read more)

- Father we pray for Your Mighty hand of protection against all charges and theft from any person who might have been hacked in this situation.

- "Deliver me from the workers of iniquity." (Psalm 59:2a)

8. California drivers brace for costly new gas tax- Fox News

Californians already pay the nation's second highest gas tax at 68 cents a gallon -- and now it will go up again in January to pay for a first-in-the-nation climate change law.

- Lord, Americans are becoming buried under the crushing weight of these taxes by this government. Soon we will not be able to drive to work, as all of our hard-earned money is going out in regulations and taxes. We pray for Your mercy, and that You will stand in the gap for us against these actions.

- "Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; further no his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah." (Psalm 140:8)

9. Intel believes 300 Americans fighting with Islamic State, posing threat to U.S.- Washington Times

American militants could commit terrorist attacks with skills acquired in Iraq, Syria

The U.S. government is tracking and gathering intelligence on as many as 300 Americans who are fighting side by side with the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria and are poised to become a major threat to the homeland, according to senior U.S. officials.

Officials say concern is widespread in Washington that radicalized foreign fighters could return to the homeland and commit terrorist attacks with skills acquired overseas, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the information. Those concerns were heightened by the disclosure Tuesday that a California man was killed fighting alongside militants with the group, also known as ISIS. (Read more)

- Father God, just as the intelligence agencies are going to DEFCON 1 on alert, so are the watchmen. We thank You, that it is written that, as we humble ourselves before You, seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways, then You will heal our land. We ask for a cleansing of all enemy agents now positioned here within the confines of the United States of America, so that each one would be "flushed out," rooted out, exposed, and brought to justice. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Mark 4:22

10. Obama lays down the gauntlet, vows 'direct action' against Islamic State - Washington Times

As the U.S. began surveillance flights as a prelude to possible airstrikes in Syria against Islamist militants, President Obama said Tuesday he will take military action wherever necessary to protect Americans. "We'll continue to take direct action where needed to protect our people and to defend our homeland," Mr. Obama told veterans at the annual American Legion convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Department of Defense officials told The Associated Press that surveillance flights have begun in Syria, ordered by Mr. Obama despite warnings from Damascus that the Syrian government would consider airstrikes without its consent an act of "aggression." Mr. Obama's advisers have said the U.S. will target militants of the Islamic State, which has seized territory in Iraq and Syria regardless of borders.

Mr. Obama still hasn't decided whether to expand the U.S. fight against the militant group in Iraq into neighboring Syria, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday. He wouldn't comment on surveillance missions. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray that these words by Obama would indeed be followed by "direct action" as the strength of the ISIS enemy continues to grow, and the danger to our homeland increases day by day. We ask that You would strengthen this president in the inner man, in Jesus' name, amen.

- "But let your statement be, 'Yes, yes ' or 'No, no'; anything beyond these is of evil." (Matthew 5:37)

The Middle East in Focus

"In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear, and from terror, for it shall not come near you." (Isaiah 54:11)

1. PM: Gaza operation a military and diplomatic success, but 'too early to tell' if it will lead to prolonged quiet - Herb Keinon

A sedate, low-key Netanyahu said that from the first minute of the operation he set out clear goals: to hit Hamas and the other terrorist organizations hard, and through this to bring about a prolonged quiet for Israeli citizens.

"I can say that Hamas was indeed hit hard," Netanyahu said of the first goal. As for the second, he was more circumspect.

"Will we get long term calm?" he asked. "I think it is too early to tell. But I can say that the blows to Hamas, and our ability to keep them from rearming by supervising the borders increases the chances that this will be achieved." (Read more)

2. Netanyahu Sites Military Achievements - The Tower

Netanyahu ticked off what he said were the country's military achievements of the 50-day operation: destroying Hamas' terror attack tunnels; killing some 1,000 terrorists, including top commanders; destroying thousands of rockets, rocket launchers, arms depots, and weapon manufacturing facilities; knocking out "hundreds" of command centers; and preventing Hamas attacks on Israel from the land sea and air.

Additionally, Netanyahu pointed out that Hamas achieved none of its goals: "They demanded a sea port and did not achieve this; they demanded an airport and did not achieve this; they demanded the release of prisoners placed back under arrest following the murder of the three Israeli boys; they demanded that Quarter mediate, and didn't get it; they demanded Turkish mediation, and didn't get." 3. Report: Netanyahu and Abbas met secretly in Jordan prior to Gaza cease-fire - Jerusalem Post

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met secretly in Amman prior to the announcement Tuesday of the cease-fire which ended 50 days of fighting between Israel and armed factions in Gaza, Jordanian daily Al-Ghad reported on Wednesday. (Read more)

4. No guarantee of quiet, but we'll hit Hamas hard if attacked, PM says - The Times of Israel

Hamas suffered a near-fatal military and diplomatic blow during Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday, but he acknowledged that he could not guarantee sustained quiet for Israel - the key goal of the operation. He said the Islamist group had achieved none of its stated objectives after 50 days of fighting, assessed it would be wary of initiating another round of violence, and indicated that planned indirect negotiations on a long-term arrangement next month might go nowhere. 5. No innocent Israelis,' says senior Fatah official - The Times of Israel

A senior Palestinian politician said that the Palestinian Authority should not join the International Criminal Court because it could raise questions about shooting Israelis - none of whom are innocent, he noted. (Read more)

6. The war Netanyahu won, and the one he may lose -The Times of Israel

The PM's strategy of containing Hamas is arguably a good one, but it's not what Israelis expected. At the conclusion of Operation Protective Edge, it is fair to say that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unequivocally won the war he set out to fight - but not, perhaps, the war the Israeli public expected him to fight. 7. Syrian jets bomb border post near Israel border captured by rebels - Jerusalem Post

AMMAN - Syrian jets shelled rebel positions near a border crossing close to the Israeli Golan Heights that was seized by rebels in some of the heaviest clashes in the strategic area this year, rebels and residents said on Thursday.

Al-Qaida's Syria wing Nusra alongside moderate rebel groups who had launched the attack early on Wednesday on the border post were "holding ground" despite the heavy bombardment, according to a source in the Islamist Beit al Maqdis brigade, whose fighters were involved in the fighting. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we ask that You keep Israel protected and watchful. Do not let it become complacent so that attacks from another direction should penetrate through the borders. In the Name of Yeshua, amen.

- "Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps." (Psalm 121:4)

Tracking ISIS

He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, "Let's get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt." (Exodus 14:25)

1. Islamic State Has Taken 'Full Control' of Key Syrian Province - World Tribune

After the Islamic State has seized control of the Syrian Air Force base at Tabqa, the Raqqa province is the first to full fall out of government hands as it seeks to establish a capital for its caliphate.

"Some of the Syrian regime troops pulled out, and now the Islamic State is in full control of Tabqa," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Aug. 24. "This makes Raqqa province the first to fully fall out of government hands."

Syrian Observatory said more than 500 people were killed in the battle for Tabqa, many of them in a heavy exchange of mortar and rocket fire. The British-based monitoring group said about two-thirds of the casualties were from ISIL.

The regime of President Bashar Assad confirmed the ISIL capture of Tabqa. The official Syrian news agency, Sana, said the military withdrew from the base while maintaining attacks on ISIL. (Read more)

2. Islamic State Building Caliphate Through Brutality - Washington Times

The Islamic State terrorist army's brutality and threats against America on Aug. 19 are signs it's focusing on entrenching its so-called Muslim caliphate -- without interference.

Analysts believe that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has calculated that beheading American journalist James Foley for the world to see will work as a deterrent against the U.S. as he cements cruel Shariah law in captured cities and villages in Syria and Iraq.

"They don't want intervention at this time from the United States, and they're trying to deter that," said William Braniff, director of the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland. "They have something else they want to focus on, and they don't want to be derailed. What that [means] is the Islamic State is building the institutions of the caliphate." (Read more)

3. Islamic State Seizes Control of Key Syrian Air Base - BBC

Fighters from Islamic State (IS) have taken control of a key Syrian government airbase, activists say. The Tabqa airbase was the last remaining stronghold of Bashar al-Assad's government in Raqqa province.. State TV confirmed that government forces had "evacuated" the airbase. Days of fighting there have reportedly killed hundreds on both sides. More than 191,000 people have now been killed in the three-year-old Syrian conflict up to April, the UN says. (Read more)

4. Second American killed fighting with ISIS in Syria - Fox News

A second American reportedly killed fighting with the Islamic State group in Syria has been identified as Abdirahmaan Muhumed, of Minneapolis, two sources told Fox News late Wednesday.

KMSP-TV in Minneapolis reported that Muhumed was killed in the same battle as Douglas McAuthur McCain, who grew up outside Minneapolis in the town of New Hope and most recently lived in San Diego. The State Department confirmed McCain's death earlier this week, but spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Wednesday that the U.S. has no independent confirmation of the second American's death. 'We're looking into it,' she said.

A profile of Muhumed by Minnesota Public Radio this past June described him as a 29-year-old Somali-American who had been married more than once and was a father of nine children. MPR reported, citing the FBI, that at least 15 young men from the Twin Citites' Somali-American community had traveled to Syria to join Islamic State, the militant group formerly known as ISIS that has captured wide swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq.

In a Facebook messages to an MPR reporter, Muhumed wrote 'I give up this worldly life for Allah' and 'Allah loves those who fight for his cause.' A picture posted on the social network showed Muhumed carrying a Koran in one hand and a rifle in the other." (Read more)

5. ISIS Set to Destroy Biblical History - The Daily Beast

Last month, a new marauder descended on Nineveh and the nearby city of Mosul. He, too, came down like the wolf on the fold, but his cohorts brandished Kalashnikovs from pickup trucks, not shining spears; their banners were the black flags of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham. . .

"These groups of terrorists-their arrival was a brutal shock, with no warning," Iraqi National Museum Director Qais Hussein Rashid told me when he visited Paris last week with a mission pleading for international help. "We were not able to take preventive measures." (Read more)

6. Syria says would work with any state to fight Islamist militants - Reuters

Syria said on Monday it would cooperate in any international effort to fight Islamic State militants, after Washington signaled it was considering extending the battle against the group into Syrian territory.

Russia, the most prominent foreign backer of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, also urged Western and Arab nations to overcome their distaste of the government in Damascus and engage with it to fight the hardline insurgents.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem held open the possibility of working with a range of countries, including the United States, Britain and Saudi Arabia, all of which supported the uprising against Assad.

Moualem presented his country as a vital partner in a war against Islamic State, which has seized areas of Syria and Iraq and declared a "caliphate" in the territories it controls.

"Syria, geographically and operationally, is the center of the international coalition to fight Islamic State," Moualem said in a televised news conference. "States must come to it if they are serious in combating terrorism," he added.

Asked about the prospect of U.S. air raids against Islamic State inside Syria, Moualem said any strikes would have to be coordinated with Damascus. "Anything outside this is considered aggression," he told reporters. (Read more)

Slaughtering Christians as sport

As we look at the pictures and read the reports coming from Iraq about the Islamic State (IS), it is important to discern what is real and what is not. There is much misinformation, but there is also documented information that is virtually unspeakable. I know for even myself, it is difficult to process pictures of children being beheaded, crucified, and slaughtered at the hands of a ruthless organization such as the IS. Even more difficult to stomach is the fact that we have been able to document the genesis of the Islamic State and the current "president's" involvement in it. This is beyond belief that American leadership would purposely or even inadvertently aid and abet such evil.

While it is not the United States' responsibility to be the world's policeman, if we see gross atrocity taking place and can do something about it, it would seem our moral duty to do so. We waited far too long in WWII to believe what was happening to the Jews at the hands of Hitler's monsters. Let us remember that Islam was working in league with Hitler to assist in exterminating the Jewish people. How long will we wait to put an end to this barbaric juggernaut executing those who do not conform to Islamic demands? My guess is: a long while. In the eyes of this White House, Christians aren't worth much. It is evident in policy, actions, and rhetoric. Islam is the favorite of the "president." He is getting what he wants.

His is a Jeremiah 6:14 approach: "They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace." In other words, the "president" pays lip service to the atrocities of Islam, but does nothing to stop them. He proclaims how the IS ideology represents no god or religion, but his steps in ending the brutality are so soft they leave not even a mark on his favorite golf course. Remember the outcry of Democratic leaders when President George W Bush wanted to take out Saddam Hussein in Iraq and al Qaeda in Afghanistan? "Build a coalition," they demanded. This "president" goes it alone with nary a whimper of opposition. And he is working with al Qaeda.

How times have changed. An American "president" supporting those who seek the destruction of every Jew and Christian on earth by working with the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoot al Qaeda (who has endorsed its offspring the Islamic State) as a foreign policy partner--preposterous! These are those who slaughter Jews and Christians for sport. They despise and oppress God's people. As similar to James 2:7, "Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called?" Yes, this "president" does. Yes, this "administration" does. They have since they first took office and become even bolder each day. Inside the walls of this White House is every evil imaginable. It is public by deed, and growing bolder.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

ISIS: Stark Warnings

ISIS: Stark Warnings

While every anniversary of 9/11 should be a cause for greater vigilance, there are a number of reasons to be particularly concerned in the coming days. We have written repeatedly about Western jihadists fighting on the battlefield. We have no idea how many may have come home.

Yesterday in Ohio a school was locked down when it received a call from an individual with a heavy Middle Eastern accent warning of a mass shooting due to anger at Israel. Thankfully, nothing happened. (The odds are overwhelming that a terrorist wouldn't call in a threat. But the venom aimed at Israel is a marker of the radicalization going on around the world and here in the U.S.)

Referring to a possible attack this coming September 11th, retired Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney raised eyebrows Monday when he said:

"I believe that we should go to DEFCON 1 and be prepared for another strike. There are too many indications. I believe American cities will be attacked and we should be prepared for it. 9/11 is a very attractive date for [ISIS]."

Underscoring the danger are warnings in the latest issue of an Al Qaeda magazine. This one provides instructions on how to build car bombs. It calls on Islamists to attack targets such as Times Square, Las Vegas casinos, oil tankers and military colleges. It includes a cryptic question regarding a timeline of possible attacks, suggesting one could be imminent. [CHPP - Please refer to headline #1 on today's Brief section for more information, and prayer, about this magazine article.]

Meanwhile, "mainstream" Muslim groups are doing everything possible to make the prevention of future attacks harder. These groups recently sent a letter to the White House demanding "a mandatory retraining program for all federal, state and local law enforcement officials" to make them more sensitive to Muslims.

Some jurisdictions are already caving in. New York City, under the left-wing direction of Mayor Bill de Blasio, shut down a surveillance unit within the New York Police Department aimed at exposing Islamic extremism.

U.S. intelligence estimates that as many as 300 Americans are waging jihad overseas with ISIS, and yet these groups refuse to admit there is a problem. (Gary Bauer)

PRAYER REQUEST:

We urge all of our readers to maintain a serious prayer vigil this year, not only on 9/11, but also on 9/10. Seek the Lord for His plan of prayer for you, individually, and/or for a team of prayer warriors who intercede with you. Take authority, in particular, over your own neighborhood and town or city, as well as any other American city the Lord quickens to you.

As we all join together on the wall, one day ahead of 9/11, we can and will "take down" and expose any attacks planned to "hit us" that day.

Our God is faithful; as we cry out, He will answer! In His Glorious name, amen!

VERSES TO DECREE:

"Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world." (I John 4:4)

"I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with My eye on you, I will give counsel." (Psalm 32:8)

"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." (2 Kings 6:16)

"Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer, Seek out his wickedness until You find none. . . So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror." (Psalm 10:15,18)

Franklin Graham Says Don't Miss Fox News' "On the Record" Next Monday for "Incredible" Operation Heal Our Patriots

On the Record with Greta Van Susteren will feature the Samaritan's Purse Alaskan Outreach: Operation Heal Our Patriots.

"We're taking you 150 miles out in the bush, west of Anchorage," Greta Van Susteren said. "This is where Samaritan's Purse and the Rev. Franklin Graham have the most unbelievable program for many of our soldiers and sailors and airmen who have been hurt in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The injuries are incredible. The program they have there is to take them way out in the wild and let them enjoy their spouses, having fun, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, bear watching.

Franklin Graham - "Because so much of the time the soldiers come back from overseas and all the attention is on the injuries," she continued. "But no one ever sort of thinks to look at the whole, to put them back together."

On the Record goes behind the scenes with this documentary-style, hand-held camera program, shining a light on how the 15-week Operation Heal Our Patriots is restoring marriages, many facing tremendous obstacles.

"They're physically broken many times or sometimes emotionally broken," Van Susteren said. "This is an unbelievable program put on by Samaritan's Purse. It's a program where they step back and help people put their marriages back together."

Giant Waves Observed In Arctic Ocean For First Time Ever

Scientists Warn Of Ice-Free Summers

In an observation that will give further credence to climate change warnings, 16-foot waves were recorded for the first time in an area of the Arctic Ocean that was, until recently, permanently covered in ice.

The waves were recorded in the Beaufort Sea, an area north of Alaska and the observations were published in the Geophysical Research Letters by Jim Thomson from the Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington in Seattle and W. Erick Rogers from the Naval Research Laboratory at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

"The observations reported here are the only known wave measurements in the central Beaufort Sea," they wrote, "because until recently the region remained ice covered throughout the summer and there were no waves to measure."

They also added that although the average height of the waves during the peak period was 16 feet, waves of up to 29 feet were also observed.

Sea ice limits the formation of waves as it prevents winds from blowing over long distances. However, drastic reduction in the Arctic ice cover in recent years, caused by an increase in global temperatures, could "result in larger waves, which in turn provide a mechanism to break up sea ice and accelerate ice retreat," the researchers said.

"It is possible that the increased wave activity will be the feedback mechanism which drives the Arctic system toward an ice-free summer," they warned, adding that larger waves could be expected in the future in the Arctic and could have "wide-ranging implications for the air-water-ice system and the humans attempting to operate there."

Although the Arctic Ocean has been steadily losing its permanent ice cover since the late 1970s, the process has accelerated in the last decade, the National Geographic reported. The 16-foot waves the scientists recorded occurred during a storm in September 2012. (International Business Times) Read more.

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

Almost every day of the year, a member of Congress or a Senator is celebrating a birthday. Let's lift up these men and women, day by day in prayer on their special day, that God might bless them and show them His love for each one. Indeed, let's move together in obedience to the Lord's mandate in I Timothy 2:1-4. It is written:
"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Today's Birthday Greeting goes to:

Rep. Julia Brownley (CA)
