The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Thursday, February 12, 2015
21 Days of Prayer and Fasting:

DAY TWO

" . . . and having done all . . . stand." (Eph. 6:13)

The Daily Brief

1. Homeland Security sets up Obama amnesty complaint hotlines for illegals - Washington Times

The Homeland Security Department has set up hotlines for illegal immigrants who believe their rights under President Obama's amnesty policy have been violated. In a memo announcing the customer complaint line, U.S. Customs and Border Protection asked illegal immigrants to "please tell us about your experience" if they believe they were treated "contrary to the new DHS enforcement priorities."

The department alerted "stakeholders" last week of three complaint hotlines: one for CBP, which oversees the Border Patrol; one for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which handles immigration laws in the nation's interior; and one for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which is poised to handle the millions of amnesty applications expected to be filed. - Father, we pray that somehow You will unhook the constant placating of those who have broken our laws.

- "Here is the man who did not make God his strength. . . and strengthen himself in his wickedness." (Psalm 52:7)

2. Muslim Brotherhood rep: White House official met us at State Department - Fox News

A Muslim Brotherhood member who recently was hosted at the State Department along with several of the Islamist group's key allies now claims that a White House official also was present in that meeting, according to recent remarks. Abdel Mawgoud al-Dardery, a Brotherhood member and former Egyptian parliamentarian, was in the United States late last month along with a delegation of fellow Brotherhood leaders and allies.

The Brotherhood-aligned delegation caused an international stir after the Washington Free Beacon revealed that it had been hosted for a meeting with several State Department officials. Another member of the group, a Brotherhood-aligned judge in Egypt, posed for a picture while at Foggy Bottom in which he held up the Islamic group's notorious four-finger Rabia symbol.

While the State Department initially misled reporters about the meeting, it was eventually forced to admit that several Obama administration officials-including a deputy assistant secretary for democracy, human rights, and labor-and State Department officials met with the delegation. (Read more)

- Lord, we have been duped by this Administration long enough. We are infiltrated at the highest levels by terrorist that desire to destroy America at its very roots. Rise up, O Lord, and rebuke the enemy for Your Name's Sake!

- "When the wicked came against me, to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell." (Psalm 27:2)

3. Congress gives final approval to Keystone XL pipeline bill, setting up veto showdown - Fox News

The House gave final congressional approval Wednesday to legislation to complete the Keystone XL oil pipeline -- setting up the first veto showdown between President Obama and the new, Republican-controlled Congress. The 270-to-152 vote showed broad bipartisan support for the legislation but not enough to reach the two-thirds majority, or 281 votes, needed to override a presidential veto. The bill also failed to get the requisite two-thirds vote in the Senate. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for the votes to bypass the veto of the President. Though these actions did not garner enough votes to do it, we ask that somehow You move on the hearts of legislators to remind them of the need to obtain jobs in America.

- "The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming." (Psalm 37:12-13)

4. Small business owners forced to battle IRS over seized bank accounts - Fox News

A murky federal program that allows the IRS to seize assets it suspects could be tied to criminal activity - even without actual criminal activity - has drawn the ire of small business owners, such as Andrew Clyde, the owner of Clyde Armory, who says he is being 'extorted' by the government. (Read more)

- Lord, this travesty against small business owners needs to cease. We ask for Your advocacy to protect and defend them against the government. Even though today the IRS has "apologized" from their actions, we cannot trust the government.

- "For the Lord is a God of Justice; Blessed are those who wait for Him." (Isaiah 30:18b)

5. Cyberwar: CyberCaliphate targets U.S. military spouses; Anonymous hits ISIS - CNN

Military family activist Liz Snell never thought it would happen to her group: Apparent ISIS sympathizers hacked her group's Twitter account and posted threats against a half dozen or so members. For now, the group's Twitter page is indefinitely shut down at Snell's direction, and she's ensuring everyone in her group "is being safe as possible." Her group promotes the mental well-being of spouses whose partners are U.S. military personnel deployed to the battlefield, often repeatedly.

The hacking is the latest volley in an ongoing cyberbattle that pits ISIS and its sympathizers against hacking groups such as Anonymous, which on Tuesday claimed responsibility for cyberassaults against nearly 800 Twitter accounts, 12 Facebook pages and more than 50 email addresses linked to ISIS.

On the other side of the cyberwarfare is CyberCaliphate, which claims ISIS ties. On Tuesday, it appeared the group hacked the Twitter accounts of Newsweek and the breaking news system of a Maryland television station. According to Newsweek, IBTimes.com, the website of the International Business Times, was also hacked. (Read more)

- Father, let these military families be protected under the shadow of Your wings, and let them not be afraid. The "CyberCaliphate" talks big, but we do not yet know exactly who or what they are. Let truth be revealed.

-"When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19b)

6. FUELING BLOODSHED: Secret Iranian unit smuggles illicit arms to Mideast - Fox News

As conflicts and civil wars rage across the Middle East and North Africa, a shadowy covert cell called Unit 190 - operating under the Iranian government - is fueling the bloodshed by smuggling arms and using warehouses - like this one - to store them. (Read more)

- Lord, let all "secrets" be revealed, and let your enemies be scattered and confused.

-"The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water." (2 Samuel 5:20)

7. Ukraine cease-fire deal announced after marathon Minsk talks - Fox News

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a cease-fire agreement for eastern Ukraine had been reached Thursday, bringing an end to marathon talks between the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France.

The agreement is due to take effect at midnight Sunday (4 p.m. ET Saturday), but questions remain about whether the deal will hold up after the collapse of a previous cease-fire in September. French President Francois Hollande called the agreement a "serious deal" in comments to the BBC, but noted that not every issue had been resolved. Hollande said that he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were committed to helping verify the cease-fire process.

- Lord, we pray for peace for this embattled region- let the people of the Ukraine and the separatist held regions stand down from this conflict. We ask for a move of Your Spirit over the region, bringing even the hardest secular fighters into Your Kingdom.

1. WATCH: Israel intercepts boat carrying rocket-making materials from Egypt to Gaza-Jerusalem Post

The Israel Navy and the Shin Bet (Israel Intelligence Agency) jointly intercepted a boat traveling from Sinai to the Gaza Strip, carrying material for the production of rockets and mortars, security officials announced on Wednesday.

The boat, carrying fiberglass resin and three Gazan residents, was intercepted by the navy on January 19.

During questioning, the three suspects on board told the Shin Bet that their smuggling attempt was aimed at assisting Hamas's military wing, the Izzadin Kassam Brigade, by providing it with raw material for building rockets and mortar shells.

2. Austrian prosecutor: Call to kill Jews is legal criticism of Israel -Jerusalem Post

BERLIN - Facebook postings from a Turkish man showing Adolf Hitler, with a statement praising the death of Jews, are a legitimate expression of criticizing the Jewish state, the spokesman for the prosecutor office in the city of Linz, Philip Christl, said on Tuesday.

"I could have annihilated all the Jews in the world, but I left some of them alive so you will know why I was killing them...," Ibrahim B. wrote on his Facebook page in December.

Ibrahim, the 29-year-old owner of a hair salon in the city of Wels near Linz, attributed the quote to Hitler and posted a picture of the German dictator on his Facebook site. Ibrahim launched his pro-Nazi tirade in the context of criticizing Israel's Operation Protective Edge war against Hamas last summer.

Christl described Ibrahim's statements as merely expressing "displeasure toward Israel," and not a glorification of Hitler, according to the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten paper.

Ibrahim, whose last name was not disclosed in the Austrian press, also called on Allah to annihilate the Jewish state, the newspaper wrote. The Austrian media said the quote attributed to Hitler was not an actual statement from the Nazi leader.

3. South African Student Council Seeks to Expel Israel Supporters -Israel National News

A student council in a university in South Africa thinks that students who support Israel should be kicked out of the institution.

The Students Representative Council (SRC) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) has made this demand to university administration, angering local Jewish organizations, according to the Daily News website.

The Secretary of the SRC, Mqondisi Duma, was quoted by the website as having said, "As the SRC, we had a meeting and analyzed international politics. We took the decision that Jewish students, especially those who do not support the Palestinian struggle, should deregister."

4. Hezbollah planned to assassinate Olmert, Arab report claims -Times of Israel

An Israeli collaborator within the ranks of Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah thwarted the organization's plan to assassinate former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert and attack the Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan in 2009, a London-based Arab daily reported on Wednesday.

Al-Araby Al-Jadid quoted a Lebanese political source as saying that Muhammad Shorba, arrested by Hezbollah late last year, was appointed by Hezbollah to avenge the assassination of Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh in February 2008 by striking Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe and Latin America.

As prime minister, Olmert launched the Second Lebanon War in August 2006 following Hezbollah's cross-border kidnapping of Israeli soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, and was also reportedly involved in Mughniyeh's assassination. The daily did not provide any details on when or how Olmert's assassination was to take place.

The assassination of Mughniyeh was considered a major blow to Hezbollah, which vowed at the time to avenge the death.

5. Greece plans military exercises with Israel, Egypt - Times of Israel

Greece plans joint military exercises with Israel, Cyprus and Egypt, Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos said Wednesday, amid continuing tensions between Cyprus and Turkey over oil exploration in the eastern Mediterranean.

Kammenos, visiting close ally Cyprus, said the two countries, along with Israel and "possibly" Egypt would begin joint exercises within the coming months aimed at improving regional security.

Cyprus has suspended UN-led peace talks with Turkey, which invaded the island in 1974 and still occupies its northern third, saying Ankara persists in trying to hamper the country's energy search.

Nicosia has licensed exploratory drilling in its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), and is unhappy that Ankara is determined to search for oil and gas in the same area.

Kammenos criticized as a "clear provocation" Turkey's sending of a survey ship to the waters where the drilling is taking place.

"We want peace," Kammenos told reporters during an official visit, "but we are also ready to respond to any attempt against the national sovereignty or territorial integrity of the broader defence area of Greece and Cyprus, if necessary."

The Stanford University student senate defeated an Israel divestment resolution Tuesday night. The Associated Students of Stanford University had nine votes for the measure and five against, with one abstention.

To pass, the measure required 66 percent of the senators to approve, but it finished with just 64%.

The resolution called on the Palo Alto, California university to divest from corporations that engage in "specific practices that commit human rights abuses and violate international law" in the West Bank.

Resist rationalizing the "president's" evil

The complete mischaracterization of Christians as par with Islamic State terrorists by the president has brought out some interesting thoughts from several Christians. Most are outraged and feeling that no one hears them when they call for the president's ouster. They should never give up. The more said and demanded, the more people hear it. There are a few Christians, however, who have a concept that they can do nothing about it and that the president is only moving prophecy ahead faster, so he is actually working on behalf of God. Their belief is that nothing should be done to prevent him. This is unscriptural. We should resist the temptation to rationalize evil as a way to advance prophecy.

What is our calling? Jesus instructed us in Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples, saying, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." In Mark 16:15, "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Jesus said in Matthew 24:14, "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." Jesus's last words before he ascended: "Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

Jesus gave us parables to illustrate the importance of what we do in his absence. In Luke 12:37, Jesus says, "Blessed are those servants whom the lord when he comes shall find watching." And in verse 40, he says, "Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man comes at an hour when you think not." There is a similar theme in Matthew 25 with the 10 virgins, ending in verse 13, "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes." Following this parable is that of the talents, where Jesus tells that the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country and disperses his goods unto his servants. Those who multiplied the talents were good and faithful servants. In Luke 19:13, Jesus gives still another similar parable ending with "Occupy till I come." There are many more examples.

We are not supposed to rationalize evil because it advances God's plan. It is not our place. God's plan will play out on his schedule and on his terms. We do have instruction, however, to occupy till Jesus returns; to overcome evil with good; to make disciples; to preach the gospel; and having done all, stand against evil. We are also shown by Jesus's own parables that we must be about his business here on earth, and those who choose otherwise risk chastening when the Master returns. We each have a responsibility to Christ. It's not what he can do for us. It's what he instructed us to do after dying for our sins. Working out our salvation requires obedience and action, usually in the face of evil.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Emergency Call to Action

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

To: Friends & Supporters

From: Gary L. Bauer

In recent weeks Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been subjected to a vicious campaign by the political left to prevent him from speaking to a joint session of Congress. The Prime Minister accepted an invitation from Speaker Boehner to share his thoughts about the threats posed to both Israel and the United States by a nuclear armed Iran.

This morning Bill Kristol of the Emergency Committee for Israel and I issued a joint statement condemning this attack on our most reliable ally, which is taking place at the same time that our government is making concessions to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Our joint statement is copied below.

Please call Capitol Hill today at 202-224-3121. Tell your Representative and Senators that you expect them to attend the joint session of Congress when the Prime Minister delivers his important message on March 3rd.

Buddhist in Cambodian Slum Embraces Jesus after Witnessing a Miracle

When Christians obey the voice of the Holy Spirit, the sky's no longer the limit!

(Pnomh Penh, Cambodia)-He survived the perils of life in the worst slum in Phnom Penh only to see his home-and thousands of other shanty dwellers' homes-ravaged by an arson fire. But through it all, God had a plan to bring calm to a troubled young soul.

"My parents moved to the city to find work," says Makaram Lim, now a youth leader and worship pastor at Church of Cambodia in Pnomh Penh. Makaram stayed with his grandmother a few hours east of the capital city as his parents tried to make their way in the bustling city-his mother selling vegetables and his father driving a taxi.

They lived on a mattress outside the front gate of a relative's home.

Makaram's grandmother was a strict Buddhist who prayed at dawn and dusk each day to her god-at least an hour of prayer and worship in each session.

Due to the rigors of his parents' long work hours, with little time to rest, Makaram's father contracted typhoid. Sadly, he succumbed to the disease in only three months.

So at nine-years-old, Makaram and his two sisters moved into a slum area with their mother near the Russian embassy in Phnom Penh. "It was full of taxis, vegetable sellers, drug addicts, prostitutes, robbers, and all the bad people lived there," he recounts.

A blackened river ran near the slum known as "Hundred Directions Water" because it became the drainage channel for every form of human waste and debris. "The water had a very bad smell," Makaram says.

Makaram's mother began to get sick from a mysterious ailment that no doctor could explain. "First they thought it was her stomach, then her lungs, then her liver," he recalls. "She was getting weaker and weaker, losing her will to live."

USGS: New fault zone discovered following 2011 earthquake

The magnitude 5.8 temblor marked the first time that a fault zone in the eastern United States produced a magnitude 5 or higher earthquake "clearly delineated by aftershocks," according to a new report by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Aug. 23, 2011 Virginia earthquake may have been felt by more people than any other quake in U.S. history, and has led to the discovery of a new East Coast fault zone.

The magnitude 5.8 temblor marked the first time that a fault zone in the eastern United States produced a magnitude 5 or higher earthquake "clearly delineated by aftershocks," according to a new report by the U.S. Geological Survey.

All those rattling aftershocks following the 2011 quake helped the USGS locate the new fault zone, which scientists have named the "Quail" fault zone.

"Most of these aftershocks were in the Quail fault zone, and outlying clusters of shallow aftershocks helped researchers to identify and locate other active faults," the USGS said in a news release this week.

The research is part of a new book by the USGS entitled "The 2011 Mineral, Virginia, Earthquake, and Its Significance for Seismic Hazards in Eastern North America."

"Studies of the Virginia earthquake have improved our understanding of earthquakes and seismic hazards in eastern North America," said USGS geologist Wright Horton. "The Virginia earthquake served as a 'wakeup call' for many residents of the eastern U.S., where the probability of major earthquakes is fairly low, but many buildings are vulnerable to damage during earthquakes."

The earthquake centered in Mineral was felt along much of the East Coast and caused millions of dollars in damage, especially in the central Virginia and the Washington area.

The Washington Monument and Washington National Cathedral in D.C. were both severely damaged. The Washington Monument was closed for more than two years while repairs were made. It just reopened last spring.
