The Daily Brief - Thursday, October 13, 2011

"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." (Proverbs 4:23 )

The Daily Brief

1. U.S. Challenged to Explain Accusations of Iran Plot in the Face of Skepticism - AP

The Obama administration on Wednesday sought to reconcile what it said was solid evidence of an Iranian plot to murder Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States with a wave of puzzlement and skepticism from some foreign leaders and outside experts.

Iran's leaders marshaled a furious formal rejection Wednesday of the American accusations, calling the case a cynical fabrication meant to vilify Iran and distract Americans from their severe economic problems. A senior member of Iran's Parliament, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, said he had "no doubt this is a new American-Zionist plot to divert the public opinion from the crisis Obama is grappling with."

• Father, if this is all a scheme to divert attention from other urgent matters such as Fast and Furious debacle, we pray that these accusations will not escalate tensions. Let the truth be known, and if it truly was a terror plot, we pray that this discovery will stifle further terrorist plots.

• You will chase your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you. Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you. (Leviticus 26:7-8)

2. Smuggled Libyan Weapons Flood into Egypt - The Washington Post

Large caches of weapons from Libya are making their way across the Egyptian border and flooding black markets in Egypt's already unstable Sinai Peninsula, according to current and former Egyptian military officials and arms traders in the Sinai. The seizures raise fresh concerns about security along the sensitive area that borders the Gaza Strip and Israel, at a time when unrest is roiling the region. The addition of shoulder-fired antiaircraft missiles to arsenals of Palestinian fighters in Gaza could add significantly to the threat against Israel, whose helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft frequently patrol the strip, which is controlled by the militant Islamist group Hamas.

A security official and an Egyptian brigadier general who served recently in the Sinai said the seizures have included ammunition, explosives, automatic weapons and caches of heavier arms, including Russian-made Strela-2 and Strela-3 heat-seeking, shoulder-fired antiaircraft missiles. "We've intercepted more advanced weapons, and these weapons aren't familiar to the Egyptian weapons markets; these are war weapons," said the brigadier general, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

• Lord, many felt that our involvement in Libya would cause such consequences as rogue rebels being equipped with weapons from the west. We pray that you will block these rebels from getting more weapons that could harm Israel, America, and our Allies. Let these weapons be found and confiscated by our troops.

• "Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years." (Ezekiel 39:9)

3. Obama Vows to Veto Protect Life Act - Scheduled for Debate Tomorrow (Thursday) - Lifesite News

Obama has promised to veto a bill strongly backed by pro-life leaders as a last-ditch effort to dodge the potentially massive expansion of abortion under the new federal healthcare reform law. Obama, whose administration fought vigorously last year to keep Hyde amendment language out of the health care bill, announced that he "strongly opposes" the bill because it "intrudes on women's reproductive freedom and access to health care," claiming the health care bill already preserves federal policy against tax funding for abortion.

The health bill has already led to a major expansion of the abortion industry: health officials announced this summer that virtually every private insurer, including sectarian institutions, would soon be forced to offer free contraception, abortifacient birth control, and sterilization in its health plans as part of an essential "preventive care" package.

• Lord, we know that abortion is a mockery, for You created children in Your image. We pray for this legislation to be passed and all candidates who are seriously running for president will uphold and value life. Remove unrighteous leaders.

• But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel; indeed he made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children of Israel. (2 Kings 16:3) For behold, Your enemies, O Lord, For behold, Your enemies shall perish; All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. (Psalm 92:9)

4. Massachusetts Group Opposes Pledge of Allegiance, Says National Anthem Is Preferred - Fox News

Brookine Pax, the progressive activist group that previously called for schools in one Massachusetts' town to ban students from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, are singing a different tune. In September, the group called on public schools in Brookline to ban students from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, saying it has no educational value and placed pressure on children to participate.

The Pledge is offensive in the group's eyes because it is a loyalty oath, but co-chair Martin Rosenthal told The Boston Globe that singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" would be an acceptable replacement to the pledge because the song is simply patriotic. "I don't find it as divisive," he told The Globe.

• Lord, as more and more time goes by, our national symbols are being questioned and relegated to silence. We pray there will be a turn in events so that we will allow for patriotism in this nation without negative repercussions and stifling. Let our courts rule to uphold our patriotic values. Remove from authority those who are dividing our nation and suppressing the freedom of showing patriotism.

• "Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says the Lord: "Behold, I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you. Return now everyone from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good." (Jeremiah 18:11)

5. Cain Leapfrogs Romney in Poll - Fox News

As GOP voters grow disenchanted with Texas Gov. Rick Perry and remain wary of Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, Cain, a onetime radio-show host and former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, catapulted into the lead in the Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. Drawn by Cain's blunt, folksy style in recent debates, 27 percent of Republican primary voters picked him as their first choice for the nomination, a jump of 22 percentage points from six weeks ago.

On Wednesday, with five of the Republican presidential candidates addressing members of the New Hampshire state legislature in the state capitol, Herman Cain fired up the crowd. His fiery speech drew several standing ovations in defending his "9-9-9 plan," which would replace the tax code with flat 9 percent taxes on businesses, personal incomes and sales across the nation.

• Lord, we pray for candidates to begin speaking plainly on how they will begin to turn the nation around from its economic doldrums. Instead of attacking each other, let their vision be clearly stated. Let the best ideas be known and excepted instead of being automatically rejected. Give us righteous, wise leaders.

• For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. (Proverbs 8:7-8)

6. Baptist Leader Land: GOP Evangelicals Would Back Romney if Nominated - NewsMax

Baptist leader Richard Land who said the 2012 election is the most important in the United States since 1860, cited recent polls showing that four out of five evangelicals would vote for Romney if he ran against Obama. That assessment comes despite the fact that Romney is a Mormon and even though 68 percent of evangelical pastors and 48 percent of mainline Protestant pastors do not believe that Mormonism is a Christian faith.

"Mitt Romney is in basic agreement with most social conservatives. Some wonder about his conversion on the pro-life issue," Land acknowledged. "But you know 51 percent of Americans now say they're pro-life. That's up from 33 percent 20 years ago. That means a lot of people who used to be pro-choice, have seen the light and are now pro-life, and Governor Romney is one of them."

• Father God, we pray for the best person to lead this nation out of the current dishevel. We pray You will make it abundantly clear who You favor as the leader of our nation. Give us a wise, qualified servant.

• The Lord delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day. Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. (Deuteronomy 10:15-16)

7. Fed up with Washington, Wealthy Boycott Campaign Fundraising - Reuters

Bessemer Trust CEO John Hilton said a number of the firm's clients - who have an average of $30 million in investable assets - say they believe a lack of leadership and political wrangling are the primary cause of recent market problems - and the declines in their portfolios. Because of that, they say they're saying no to requests to make political contributions.

"My clients are the ones who are usually hosting fund-raisers at their homes," he said. Many have historically been staunch Democrats, but Ted Halpern, a Rockville, Maryland-based financial adviser said this year some say they might vote for a Republican because they hope a change will lead to action of some kind in Washington, Halpern said. "There is just a lot of resentment out there," he said.

• Lord, every election costs more money for a candidate to run. We pray the candidate that You favor will have an abundance of support and money. We pray the coffers of those who would be against You, Lord, will dry up.

• For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to the one who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind. (Ecclesiastes 2:26)

8. Bilingual voting ballots ordered in 25 states - Washington Times

In the run-up to the 2012 elections, the federal government is ordering that 248 counties and other political jurisdictions provide bilingual ballots to Hispanics and other minorities who speak little or no English. Effective this week, Hispanics who don't speak English will be entitled to Spanish-language election material in urban areas of political battleground states including Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, Utah and Florida. For the first time, people from India will get election material in their native language, in voting precincts in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, due to their fast population growth.

The minorities must be unable to speak or understand English well enough to vote in elections, a proficiency level determined by those who indicate in census surveys that they don't speak English "very well." The minority group also should have literacy rates ranking below the national average.

• Our nation is becoming like Babel where there was confusion in the many languages. Let our government pass legislation where English must be the first language of the nation. Prevent the progressives from blocking such laws. Give our courts, judges, and politicians your wisdom.

• And all of them conspired together to come and attack Jerusalem and create confusion. Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night. (Nehemiah 4:8-9)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retains not His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will turn again; He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. You will perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which You have sworn unto our fathers from the days of old." (Micah 7:18-20)

1. U.S.: Israel move to legalize West Bank outposts 'unhelpful to peace efforts' - Ha'aretz

The U.S. State Department criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's newly launched attempt to legalize West Bank outposts on Wednesday, saying the move was "unhelpful" to Mideast peace efforts.

2. Killers of kidnapped soldiers may be freed - Ynet News

A total of 1,027 Palestinian prisoners will be freed from Israeli prison as part of the historic deal for the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit. The identity of the prisoners about to be releases is unclear at the moment, but names mentioned during the emergency cabinet meeting held Tuesday night are likely to spark a significant controversy in Israel and cause a lot of pain for some families.

3. Gilad Shalit to be returned to Israel within a week - Ha'aretz

Kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit will be returned to Israel on Tuesday or Wednesday next week, Israeli authorities reported. Shalit is expected to be transferred to the Sinai Peninsula through Rafah crossing, then to Israel. According to reports, Israel Defense Forces intend to allow Shalit to be reunited with his family as soon as possible.

Islamic Aggression: Repeat of History or Prophetic Destiny?

In 632, at the time of Mohammed's death, orthodox Christianity was the overwhelming majority religion in Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Asia Minor, North Africa, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, Italy, France and Spain. Historian Paul Crawford writes in the next 100 years, Islam had conquered all these countries except Italy, the islands and Northern France. He writes, "The Christian communities of Arabia were entirely destroyed in or shortly after 633, when Jews and Christians alike were expelled from the peninsula. Two-thirds of the formerly Roman Christian world was now ruled by Muslims." Is the current 12 year Western Crusade aiding a repeat of history and what does it mean prophetically?

In the Spring 2011 edition of the Intercollegiate Review, Crawford tackles the "Four Myths about the Crusades." He says that the Crusades were not unprovoked, as is taught by history revisionists. Crawford documents that the surviving central secular authority in the Christian world, the Byzantine Empire, along with the popes counter attacked Islam to regain their land and to protect "victimized Christians." These battles, according to Crawford, continued from 633 through 1095 when the First Crusade began under Pope Urban II and Byzantine leaders. The Crusades, Crawford concludes, were the result of Islamic aggression that forced out Christianity and threatened nations and governments.

Fast forward to present day. Aside from the days following the establishment of Israel as a nation in May 1948, the Six Day war in 1967, and the 1972 Yom Kippur War, Islamic aggression experienced an accelerated rebirth with Yassir Arafat and the Islamic/Arab/Russian support of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Israel. It has fully blossomed into an all out assault on Western nations and Israel through Muslim Brotherhood supported terrorism--al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and more. At the same time, terrorist leaders, dressed as diplomats, have played the "peace, peace, Islam is a religion of peace" card.

US forays into Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, and now Egypt and Libya have done little to defeat terrorism, but rather established Islamist reign through the credibility of democracy. Christians that study Biblical eschatology know the example of Ezekiel 38:2-6, where every nation mentioned coming against Israel in the end time battle is currently Islamic. 2 John 7 says, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." Islamic aggression is prophecy on the march. American leadership is accelerating the cadence. Unless We the People act to halt America's involvement, the outcome for our particular nation is bleak.

Key Senate Vote Today or Tomorrow

Full Senate to Vote on Alison Nathan: An Unqualified and Dangerous Judicial Nominee

Friends,

Sometime later this week, the Senate will be voting on Alison J. Nathan, Obama's Judicial Nominee to the Southern District Court of New York. We will send an update when a firm time for the vote has been scheduled.

Please see attached and below a research memorandum on this unqualified nominee, and her troubling comments praising the Court's activist application of foreign law in Roper v. Simmons.
In Brief, Nathan is extremely light on experience and extremely liberal in her judicial, political and personal views. For example, she believes that international law can be made binding when determining the meaning of the U.S. Constitution. Simply put, she is not qualified for a near lifetime position on the federal bench, and her record does not demonstrate that she would properly perform the role of a U.S. Judge: to decide cases according to the U.S. Constitution and the laws made in pursuance thereof.

Recommended Action: Please contact your Senators and ask them to "Vote Against Nathan."
Regards,

Judicial Action Group

The Good News Corner:

This video is taking the pro-life Christian movement by storm

Dear Friends,

My friend Ray Comfort has produced a powerful video that will leave a lasting mark on your heart and mind.

"180" is a 33 minute video in which Ray shows how even the strongest supporters of abortion make a complete 180-degree turn and become pro-life in a matter of minutes. I didn't believe it could be this simple and quick until I saw the full video for myself.

This is one of the most powerful tools I've seen that can change the minds of people regarding abortion. Once you see it, I hope you'll share it with others. It's perfect for a Sunday school or small church group.

The video is free to watch and share.

Sincerely,

Tim Wildmon, President
American Family Association
