The Daily Brief - Thursday, September 15, 2011

"The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever." (Rev. 11:15b)

The Daily Brief

1. Abbas will ask UN Council for Full UN Membership - AP

The Palestinians will ask the Security Council next week to accept them as a full member of the United Nations, the Palestinian foreign minister said Thursday, a move that would defy Washington's threat to veto the statehood bid. Read more.

The remarks by Riad Malki came just ahead of the arrival in the West Bank of a senior U.S. diplomatic team that was in the region in a last-ditch effort to persuade the Palestinians to drop the U.N. bid. Although Malki did not close the door on compromise, his comments signaled the chances of breakthrough were slim. With a diplomatic showdown looming, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Thursday that he would travel to the U.N. next week to lead the opposition to the Palestinian initiative.

- Lord, we ask that You block every move toward this plan in the Name of Jesus.

- "But upon Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions." (Obadiah 17)

2. Congresswoman Seeks to Derail U.N. Vote on Palestinian Statehood by Withholding Aid - Fox News

As the United Nations prepares to convene its annual General Assembly in New York next week, a key congresswoman is calling for the U.S. to withhold aid to the Palestinians unless they drop attempts to get the world body to recognize an independent Palestinian state - a move that both Washington and Israel opposes.

Rep. Ilena Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the House Foreign Relations Committee, also wants to persuade the U.N. to refrain from recognizing an independent Palestinian state if the Palestinians ask. Ros-Lehtinen, a frequent critic of the U.N., is pushing a plan to withhold or slash U.S. money earmarked for the world body. And she held a hearing Wednesday to examine the $500 million in annual aid the U.S. provides to the Palestinians. Read more

- Pray that Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen's efforts will bear fruit, so that the Palestinians WILL back down on their intention to ask the U.N. to endorse their sovereignty next Tuesday. Offer a great chorus of PRAISE for this report, and continue in prayer that the remaining negotiations between all parties involved will lead to a safe and secure Israel . . . away from war and towards peace.

- Then Jacob said, "O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the LORD who said to me, 'Return to your country and to your family, and I will deal well with you': I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have shown Your servant; for I crossed over this Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two companies. Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and attack me and the mother with the children. For You said, 'I will surely treat you well, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.'" (Gen. 32:9-12)

3. Hearing: U.S. Must Respond if UN Declares Palestinian State - IPT (Investigative Project on Terrorism)

A bipartisan group of lawmakers sent Palestinian Authority officials a powerful message Tuesday: There will be severe consequences for any attempt to have the United Nations recognize an independent Palestinian state based on Israel's June 4, 1967 borders.

That could range from the closing of Palestine Liberation Organization offices in Washington and other diplomatic actions, to a full cutoff of American foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA). Such a unilateral action violates the 18-year-old Oslo Accords, brokered by the United States, which call for direct negotiations to resolve any conflict. Read more.

- Pray that the Palestinians will "get the message" from this committee, and will continue to back down on its agenda to insist that the United Nations declare Palestine a sovereign state. Offer praise for the courage of Rep. Ros-Lehtinen and the members of her committee, and pray for their protection.

- "And He will give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways." (Psalm 91:11)

4. Al Qaeda in Yemen Taking Advantage of 'Arab Spring' Fallout - Fox News

Al Qaeda in Yemen is focused on attacks outside of the region, and as the Arab Spring unfolded across the Middle East the terror network's most active and lethal affiliate took advantage of the political instability to further expand its operations in Yemen, senior Pentagon officials say.

- Lord, we take authority over the demonic realms of Al Qaeda influence in Yemen and bind them tightly in the name of Jesus and by the power of His Blood. We loose Your Holy Spirit in that region to pull out the roots of jihad and the spirit of murder, and ask that You bring in souls for Your Kingdom.

- "Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

5. Iran tests new smart bombs - Ynet News

Iran's fleet of fighter jets has been equipped with new anti-missile capability, allowing them to "detect and intercept all incoming missiles," the state-run Fars news agency reported on Wednesday.

- Father, we once again come before You to ask that all plans of Iran to destroy Your people be dispelled.

- "For the nation and kingdom that will not serve You shall perish, yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted." (Isaiah 60:12)

6. Border Patrol finds weapons, rocket launcher near Rio Grande - Reuters

U.S. Border Patrol agents have discovered a cache of several high-powered weapons along the Rio Grande River including a rocket launcher, assault rifles and plastic explosives, authorities said. Agents found the weapons on Tuesday in a black bag along a quiet stretch of the Rio Grande near Fronton, a small community about 210 miles south of San Antonio. No arrests have been made. Inside the bag were six assault rifles, a grenade launcher, a rocket launcher, 20 ammunition magazines for various-sized weapons and three packages of what appeared to be C-4 plastic explosives, a Border Patrol news release states.

"These deadly weapons could have had a devastating impact on communities on both sides of the border and to our agents and other law enforcement officers," Rosendo Hinojosa, head of Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley sector, said in a statement.

- Thank You, Lord, for revealing this cache of deadly weapons before lives were taken!

- "the LORD has been my defense,
And my God the rock of my refuge.
He has brought on them their own iniquity,
And shall cut them off in their own wickedness;

The LORD our God shall cut them off."

US support of Sharia accelerates prophetic outlook

After months of promoting the "Arab Spring" US-supported rebellions in Egypt and Libya as a call for self determination and democracy, the mainstream news media is finally catching up to what those of us in the "sane"-stream media have been saying all along--these rebellions replace dictatorships with a radical brand of Islamic Sharia. The US president has forced the American military and his diplomatic corps to support terrorist sponsoring- and terrorist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda in overthrowing governments in the Middle East. As reality of the aftermath sets in, the star-crossed liberals who romanticize about grass roots revolutions are finding out the hard facts of their folly.

The darling of the leftist media, The Washington Post, revealed as if it were news on September 12 that Islamists are emerging in force in "new Libya." Still holding on to its romanticism over the thought of democracy in Islam, the Post maintained that The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), whose leadership won the day in the rebellion, is "not al Qaeda." Irrespective, on November 3, 2007, Al Jazeera reported, and the State Department confirmed, that LIFG became the Libyan wing of al Qaeda. It was big news at the time, swept under the rug when this Administration decided to spread Sharia in the name of democracy. The leader of the LIFG even hid behind a name change during the fighting in Libya.

The Post reports further: "Islamists led by the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood took advantage of secularists' absence from the eastern city of Benghazi to win passage of a revised provision that made Islamic law the principal law of the land, said a council member involved in the process." Al Jazeera, reported on September 13 that, "Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council, has a message for Libyans: Fear not, Sharia law is on the way." Jali said in a speech, "We are seeking to establish a state government by law and welfare--and Sharia, Islamic Law, should be the main source of law." Indeed, the current draft of Libya's new constitution sets forth that the nation will be ruled by Sharia.

Already in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has tightened its grip to spread Sharia, and has created new relationships with Hamas and Hezbollah. The US president was instrumental in the overthrow of Egypt and it falling into the hands of the previously banned Muslim Brotherhood. These moves by the US have great prophetic significance. These new policies have long term impact, so much so, that many Biblical prophecies could be fulfilled with the turn of an event. Many have warned of the consequences of supporting evil. 2 Chronicles 36:16 says, "But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy."

UN Vote: Palestinian Statehood

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has long planned to seek admission to the UN next week, asking the body to declare Palestine an independent state. President Obama promises to veto any such vote in the Security Council. But passage is virtually certain in the General Assembly where the U.S. has no veto power. Since May when President Obama told Congress that Israel's 1967 borders should be the starting point for further negotiations, Israel has readied itself for serious border violence, knowing that activists will try to provoke the Israeli Defense Force to over-react. On Monday, Turkey's Prime Minister said Israel's "raid" on the "Flotilla" last year (ruled legal by the UN) was "an act of war" and promised Turkish warships to accompany future flotillas.

Such a flotilla, numbering 15 ships, could set sail any moment. Christian leaders are suspicious of the President's commitment to our closest ally in the Mideast, given his cozy relationship with the Muslim states, his criticism of Israeli policy and his rudeness to PM Benjamin Netanyahu. With the U.S. marginalized by our economic troubles, and led by the most anti-Israel/pro-Muslim president in modern history, who knows what Israel's enemies may attempt?

New York voters yesterday chose a conservative Republican to replace disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner (D); among them were Orthodox Jews who expressed disapproval of President Obama's dealings with Israel and the Palestinian issue. Bible students know that if our own nation is to be preserved and blessed, if our hopes for righteous public policy are to be realized, the U.S. must stand by Israel. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL) has introduced a bill that would make UN dues voluntary. Experts say it would put pressure on members to vote against Palestinian Statehood.

- May God intervene to prevent any U.N. effort to declare a Palestinian State. May believers everywhere cry out to God, and may the Jewish people turn to their Savior. May God cause the U.S. to stand firmly with Israel and expose any internal or external plan to undermine our loyal support!

- "The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord!" (Proverbs 21:31)

Abortion Provider Won't Appeal Arizona Ruling

On Monday, the largest abortion provider in Arizona announced it would not appeal a state court decision upholding an expansive new law detailing the conditions under which abortions can be performed.

The Arizona Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 in early August that the Abortion Consent Act of 2009 would withstand constitutional scrutiny. Under the law, the state requires abortionists to get notarized parental signatures before terminating minors' pregnancies and to give women complete and accurate information at least 24 hours before performing abortions. The law also states surgical abortions cannot be performed by non-doctors, such as nurse practitioners, and includes an exemption for any medical personnel who say performing abortions will violate their sincerely held moral or religious beliefs.

Planned Parenthood of Arizona said that rather than fighting the ruling, it would "spend its resources elsewhere."

"We don't fully know what their motivation is," said Deborah Sheasby, legal counsel for the Center for Arizona Policy, which helped craft the language in the Abortion Consent Act. "When the law was passed, another abortion provider did a survey of their clients trying to prove it would be a problem, and couldn't. So they might be trying to do something like that. It's hard to know."

The law could take effect as early as next week.

"It was a significant victory when the bill was passed, so seeing it go into effect now, it's just incredible to see how much of an impact this will make," Sheasby said. "We think these are going to be really significant laws in Arizona that will protect women and children. Having a waiting period, the same standard you have for other medical procedures, will be the standard of care now in Arizona."

After Gov. Jan Brewer signed the law in July 2009, Planned Parenthood of Arizona sued to stop it from taking effect, citing constitutional concerns over equal protection and privacy. A trial court granted the injunction that September. (CitizenLink)
