The Daily Brief - Wednesday, November 25, 2009

PLEASE NOTE: The Daily Brief will not be published tomorrow (Thanksgiving) or Friday, Nov. 27.

Please join us this week in offering to God a "sacrifice of praise" in these challenging times. He Is Lord and He IS watching over each one of us, with tender, loving care.

"Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name." (Hebrews 13:15)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF OUR PRAYER PARTNERS! AMEN!

Today's Daily Brief

1. Obama says 'step closer' to climate deal - Breitbart

US President Barack Obama said Tuesday the world has moved "one step closer" to a "strong operational agreement" on climate change at next month's Copenhagen summit after his talks with Indian and Chinese leaders.

b. Obama to Lay Out U.S. Climate Goals at Copenhagen - FOXNews.com

The president is expected to travel to the United Nations summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Dec. 9 before heading to Oslo, Norway, to accept his Nobel Peace Prize.

c. New EU President: 2009 a Year of Global Governance - EU@UN

We are living through exceptionally difficult times: the financial crisis and its dramatic impact on employment and budgets, the climate crisis which threatens our very survival. A period of anxiety, uncertainty and lack of confidence. Yet these problems can be overcome by common efforts in and between our countries. 2009 is also the first year of global governance, with the establishment of the G20 in the middle of the financial crisis. The climate conference in Copenhagen is another step towards the global management of our planet. Our mission is one of hope, supported by acts and action. Read more.

__Father, who would have thought in reading the Bible, that a one-world government would rise from something as innocent sounding as "climate change." So Father we stand firmly against the deceptions within the Copenhagen Treaty, and pray that You will bring this plan to nothing.

- "Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses." (Nehemiah 4:14b)

2. Democrats push $150B stock tax on Wall Street - The Hill

A House bill still being drafted aims to raise $150 billion each year to pay for new jobs.

___Lord we are at a loss to understand why the Democrats feel that more taxes will help an economy in decline. We ask that wise leaders will stand up and stop this tax. We pray for fiscal responsibility, not oppression and reckless spending.

- "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?" (Isaiah 58:6)

3. White House Weighs New Panel to Tackle Deficit - Wall Street Journal

The White House is considering a bipartisan commission to tackle the nation's swelling deficit, as it seeks to show resolve on a problem that threatens its broader agenda.

__Lord as we watch with dismay the increased spending of our leadership, we pray that You will shift their underlying priorities. We ask that You bring righteousness and wisdom into the plans of men, and take control of this situation.

- "For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, but the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it." (Ecclesiastes 7:12)

4. US Economy Growing Slower Than First Thought - VOA

Commerce Department experts say US economy expanded at an annual pace of 2.8 percent in last quarter, which is seven-tenths of a percent less than an earlier estimate.

___Father we pray for the Business community, both small and large, the farmers, workers and owners. We ask that You begin to give them strategies for survival and growth that will stand in complete defiance of a slowing economy and poor economic conditions. You have given such strategies to many throughout history, so we pray for Your wisdom for them now!

- "I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord Who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1)

5. World powers readying Iran resolution - Jerusalem Post

Russia and China have joined four Western powers in readying a resolution critical of Iran's nuclear program, diplomats said Tuesday, as Teheran pushed forward its own alternatives to a UN-backed plan aimed at preventing it from developing nuclear weapons.

- An enemy is an enemy is an enemy. Pray for the six nations now trying to put together this resolution, that they not be deceived regarding the true danger and actual intent of Ahmedinejad. Every day that "negotiations" are stalled is another day allowing Iran to finalize its nuclear weapons program.

- "Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while the righteous escape safely." (Psalm 141:10)

6. With all eyes on Iran, who's watching Pakistan's nuclear arsenal? - Ha'aretz

Fear of the Iranian nuclear weapons development program has overshadowed the fact that not far from Tehran, actually right nearby, two countries, India and Pakistan, already possess nuclear weapons. Not just warheads stored in warehouses, but weapons that have already been tested and were even used to back up the two countries' reciprocal threats against each other.

- This is a point so well taken!! As watchmen on the wall, let us also consider and remember the nuclear arsenals that are stored within both India and Pakistan, too. May these weapons NEVER be used, and only the "weapons" of our warfare be employed instead, leading to the salvation of many. As you pray, please remember to ask for the protection and favor of believers on the land. Amen.

- "It is not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, saith the Lord." (Zechariah 4:6)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." (Deuteronomy 30:19)

1. Abbas: Obama doing nothing for peace - Jerusalem Post

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday accused US President Barack Obama of doing "nothing" to achieve peace in the Middle East. Speaking to Argentinian newspaper Clarin, Abbas said he hoped that Obama would "take a more important role in the future."

2. Israel to Announce Moratorium on West Bank Settlement Activity Wednesday

The Israeli government will shortly announce a ten-month moratorium on settlement activity in the West Bank, a well placed source tells Fox News. The Obama administration, which has repeatedly expressed frustration with the Netanyahu government's failure to halt settlement activity, will welcome the move as significant, one that goes further than any previous Israeli government (Labor, Kadima or Likud) in this regard.

3. Hamas leaders in Syria for '24 critical hours' - Ynet News

The next 24 hours will be critical in terms of the prisoner exchange deal with Israel, senior Hamas sources told Arab media on Wednesday morning. The organization's leaders, who left Cairo on Tuesday evening, are meeting in the offices of Hamas' political bureau in Damascus to decide whether to accept Jerusalem's latest offer.

4. Israel still wants own systems in F35 - Jerusalem Post

Israel will continue to demand that its own electronic- warfare systems be integrated into the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, senior defense officials said Tuesday, amid US news reports that the Pentagon would not allow the installation of an Israeli EW system in the plane.

5. Netanyahu: No conclusion, decision, or deal on Schalit yet - Jerusalem Post

Lowering expectations of an imminent release of captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that no deal had been made, and that he did not know when such an agreement might be reached.

The Daily Jot

The Negligence of the Church in the Healthcare Debate

With all the drivel about government run healthcare that the socialists in the Congress and the White House are conjuring up, it might be wise to take a deep breath and have understanding of the Lord's plan for health care. There was no government run healthcare in the days of Jesus. The Roman Empire, in fact, was brutal. One of the articles of the Roman Constitution called for babies to be killed if they were thought to be deformed in any way. But God's word, both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, gave us instruction on healthcare and how it is to be handled. It was not to be done through the government of men, but through God's government.

Isaiah 53:5 prophesies of the coming Christ, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." And there are countless examples of Jesus and the disciples healing the sick. And Jesus spoke of caring for others in Matthew 25 where he told the parable about the King who said when he was sick he was tended to. The people asked when they did this. And Jesus replied, "Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." He gave us a new commandment, in John 13:34, "That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another."

This love must extend through the church. The church, not the government, is responsible for its people. We will soon celebrate Thanksgiving which dates back to the Pilgrims in Plymouth. Prior to the harvest feast, there was a great trial of sickness. William Bradford writes in "Of Plymouth Plantation", " . . . sometimes two or three persons died in a day. In the time of worst distress, there were but six or seven sound persons, who, to their great commendation be it spoken, spared no pains night or day, but with great toil and at the risk of their own health, fetched wood, made fires, prepared food for the sick, made their beds, washed their infected clothes, dressed and undressed them .

"In a word," Bradford continued, "[they] did all the homely and necessary services for them which dainty and queasy stomachs cannot endure to hear mentioned; and all this they did willingly and cheerfully, without the least grudging, showing their love to the friends and brethren." This is an example of the church doing what it is supposed to do. My church, when my wife was deathly ill, did the same. And we had no health insurance, except God and His people. At the worst, she received care from the hospital, which through God's immutable grace, forgave the hefty bill. But her actual life deteriorated in the hospital. It was regenerated at the hands of God's people. And the government is far from God.

Global Warming Hoax

Leftwing Lies

In past reports, I've expressed skepticism about the so- called global warming consensus. Not only did the science seem suspect, often contradicting common sense, but it was clearly ideologically driven. Like the promise that more government programs would save money, the radical environmental movement has a terrible track record of making hysterical predictions that never materialize. And its solutions are always the same - bigger government and higher taxes.

In recent days, there have been shocking revelations that the science behind the global warming scare may well be a total scam. E-mails have been leaked from key scientists that appear to expose blatant data manipulation and efforts to suppress dissent. Science and academia are supposed to be all about free inquiry. But these scientists are acting more like petty liberal ideologues determined to pursue their leftwing agenda regardless of the facts.

I won't go into all of the details about the emails in this report. You can read more here and here. But this is not just a scientific scandal. "Climategate" is a huge political scandal as well, encompassing leading leftwing luminaries like Al Gore, who have been working for years to impose various socialist schemes aimed at undermining our sovereignty, crippling our economy and redistributing our wealth, all under the guise of combating global warming.

I'm pleased to report that conservative stalwart Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma is demanding an investigation, and rightly so, because the stakes are tremendous. The entire premise of cap and trade - massive new energy taxes and vastly expanded government power - rests on this apparent scam. It's worth reminding everyone that 82% of House Democrats voted for it, while 94% of House Republicans opposed it. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Nov. 25, 2009)

Obama, Asia, and Iran

Mush vs. Steel

Barack Obama came back from his Asian trip with nothing to benefit the U.S. Meanwhile, Iranian "strong man" Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continues to outmaneuver the Obama Administration, even in our own back yard. The Shiite fundamentalist is strengthening ties with Cuba and Venezuela. Today, he is in resource-rich Brazil, making deals and taunting the United States. From there, he heads to Bolivia to continue to bolster his influence in the Western Hemisphere.

After a year of watching Obama's limp-wristed foreign policy, the Holocaust-denying dictator has concluded he knows his adversary well. He told the Brazilian media that the U.S. and Israel "don't have the courage" to attack Iran and stop his nuclear weapons program. He is probably right about Barack Obama, but I suspect he has misjudged Israel.

Back home in Iran, Ahmadinejad continues to smash dissent while Obama and the State Department grovel at his feet, begging for negotiations. Ahmadinejad laughs in return, and strengthens his control of Iran. Six thousands military centers are being opened in elementary schools throughout the Islamic Republic to indoctrinate young jihadists. The Revolutionary Guards are being given control of various forms of communication - telephone land lines, cell phone companies and Internet providers. In the spring, it will launch its own news agency to spout the mullahs' propaganda.

But no insult, no affront, no threat from Iran will dispel our president's delusional view that if only he could sit down with Ahmadinejad they could kiss and make up. Unfortunately for us, Obama's "mush" is no match for Ahmadinejad's "steel." With each hour, we grow closer to an unprecedented defeat of U.S. interests in the Middle East. Moslem Hajj Begins Today

Day 1 - November 25, 2009 - From Mecca to Mina living in tents

Pray for the Saudis and other pilgrims to have revelations of Jesus. Pray for them to have an experience like Paul did in Acts 9:3-4 "as he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me [Jesus]?"

Day 2 - November 26, 2009 - Seeking mercy and forgiveness in Muzdalifah

Today the pilgrims from Saudi and others lands are seeking God for mercy and forgiveness. Pray that Ephesians 2:4-5 would be true in their lives. "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved." It is in Christ alone they will be saved.

Day 3 - November 27, 2009 - Throwing rocks at Satan and the slaughter of sheep and goats

On the third day, the pilgrims move before sunrise, back to Mina. Here they throw stone pebbles at pillars that represent the temptations of Satan. Also today, in Saudi Arabia and around the Muslim world sheep and goats will be slaughtered. Muslims reject the slain Lamb of God. Pray that Muslims will understand that Jesus is the promised Lamb that takes away the sins of the world.

Day 4 - November 28, 2009

To the Grand Mosque circling the Ka'aba and the search for water Lord we ask that they would get more and more thirsty, longing in their hearts to know the truth. As Jesus talks with the Samaritan woman in John 4, Jesus says to her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." Jesus declares that "I who speak to you am he," the one who has living water. Today, we ask that the Saudis and other Muslims would thirst and find the living water of Jesus.

Day 5 - November 29, 2009
- Stoning Satan again and heading home.

As we have prayed - we want to continue to pray that what God has done over the last few days would continue. We have asked that God would continue to reveal his Son to Saudis and other Muslims - may they be on a pilgrimage into Jesus. From John 14:6 we know that Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Please continue to pray for Muslims around the world to come to the Father through Jesus.
