Focus on Israel

1. U.N. chief says Israel settlement bill goes against international law - Reuters

The Israeli parliament's move to legalize thousands of settler homes in the occupied West Bank goes against international law and will have legal consequences for Israel, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was quoted as saying on Tuesday.

Palestinians have condemned the legislation approved by Israeli lawmakers on Monday as a blow to their hopes of statehood, but its passage may only be largely symbolic as it contravenes Israeli Supreme Court rulings on property rights.

The legislation retroactively legalizes about 4,000 settler homes built on privately owned Palestinian land. (Read more)

2. Trump White House Refuses to Condemn Settlement Legalizations - Breaking Israel News

While his predecessor's administration would likely have come out with a quick and sharply critical response to Israel's passing of a law which retroactively legalizes about 4,000 "settler outposts" in Judea and Samaria, President Donald Trump's State Department remained silent after the news broke Monday night, refusing to condemn the move.

The Regulation Law has been the subject of contention and controversy in Israel, with left-wing politicians threatening that it could lead to an indictment in the International Criminal Court. The law protects thousands of existing Jewish homes in the Biblical heartland which were built with government backing but now face absentee land claims from Palestinian "owners." (Read more)

3. US tight-lipped as Israel settler law sparks world outrage - Yahoo News

Jerusalem (AFP) - The United States was conspicuously tight-lipped Tuesday amid a world outcry over a new Israeli law allowing the appropriation of private Palestinian land for Jewish settler outposts. The United Nations, the European Union and the Arab League were just some of those coming out against the legislation passed in parliament late Monday. "This bill is in contravention of international law and will have far reaching legal consequences for Israel," UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in a statement. (Read more)

4. Hamas promises Israelis swift death - in rhyme - Times of Israel

Hamas on Tuesday released an animated Hebrew-language music video threatening Israel with death and destruction, a day after a flare-up of violence in the Gaza Strip that saw Israeli air and tank strikes in response to a rocket attack from the Strip.

In the video, titled "Zionist, You Will Die in Gaza," the terror group threatens to hit Israelis with rockets "where they live" and promises death for those who "do not leave our land immediately."

The colorful lyrics - written in rhyme - include a vow that Israelis will "drink from the cup of death, its taste bitter." It warns IDF soldiers that any who enter Gaza territory will die - or at best face capture and imprisonment. "I will eat you without salt," another line promises. "You will beg for your life." 5. Netanyahu working to change nuclear deal with Iran - World Israel News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is apparently leading an international effort to alter the Iran nuclear deal.

Speaking to Israel's NRG news on Monday while boarding a plane back to Israel from the United Kingdom, Netanyahu said that the agreement, in it current form, enables the Iranians to develop an arsenal of tens of nuclear cores within a decade. "We must ensure this does not happen," he told reporters.

Netanyahu stressed that the latest illicit ballistic missile test conducted by Iran was in breach of a UN Security Council resolution. (Read more)

Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Jeff Sessions' nomination to be attorney general clears procedural hurdle - CBS News

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions' nomination to be attorney general has cleared a procedural hurdle in the Senate. The Senate voted 52-47 on Tuesday to move ahead on the nomination. Confirmation is expected on Wednesday in spite of Senate Democrats' opposition to their colleague. No GOP senators voted against his confirmation. Sen. Sessions cast his vote as "present."

Shortly before the procedural vote, Sessions cast a necessary vote for the confirmation of Betsy DeVos to be education secretary. She was confirmed with a 51-50 vote requiring Vice President Mike Pence to break the tie.

Democrats have questioned Sessions' commitment to civil rights, his opposition to many immigration laws and whether he will be independent of President Donald Trump as the nation's chief law enforcement officer. Sessions was one of President Trump's earliest and strongest supporters.

Democratic leader Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York said Sessions "is probably the most anti-immigrant member of this body, Democrat or Republican. And many of us on this side believe immigrants are an asset to America, not a liability."

- Father, we pray for the quick confirmation of Donald Trump's remaining nominees for his Cabinet, and we pray Jeff Sessions will be confirmed today. We also pray all our federal employees would submit to the authority of President Trump and his team.

- But select capable men from all the people-men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain-and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. (Exodus 18:21)

2. Court dubious of government arguments on Trump's travel ban - Politico

The Justice Department struggled to convince a federal appeals court Tuesday to allow the federal government to resume enforcement of President Donald Trump's controversial travel ban executive order.

The Trump administration had hoped to persuade the appeals court to stay the entirety of a Seattle federal judge's order blocking key parts of President Donald Trump's Jan. 27 directive blocking all refugee admissions and suspending travel to the U.S. from seven majority-Muslim countries.

However, the three 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judges hearing the issue were skeptical enough of the government's case that Justice Department attorney August Flentje repeatedly raised a fallback option that the appeals court rein in the Seattle judge's order without lifting it altogether.

- Father God, we pray for a quick and lawful decision by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. We repent for polically motivated judicial decisions, and we pray the law giving President Trump authority would be upheld.

- Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. (Romans 13:1-2)

3. Cotton and Trump plot crackdown on legal immigration - POLITICO

Overlooked in Donald Trump's campaign crusade against illegal immigration was his vow to crack down on legal immigration, too. Now, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), a reliable Trump ally, is taking steps to execute that part of the president's immigration vision - and it could provoke a showdown between two competing ends of the GOP: the working-class populists led by Trump and the establishment Chamber of Commerce wing. Cotton's new legislation, being formally proposed Tuesday with Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and detailed exclusively with POLITICO in advance of its release, swings an axe at the nation's green-card system by eliminating several avenues for U.S. citizens and permanent residents to sponsor family members for green cards.

All told, the number of legal immigrants allowed into the United States under the bill - named the Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment (RAISE) Act - would plummet by 40 percent in the first year and by 50 percent over a decade, according to analysis by Cotton's aides. Advocates of reduced immigration are delighted. "With the introduction of this bill, Sen. Cotton has made it clear that he's stepping not necessarily into the shoes, but onto the platform where Sessions' shoes have been," said Roy Beck, the president of NumbersUSA, which calls for less immigration. "This is beyond anything that Sen. Sessions ever did." (Read more)

- Father, we thank You for leaders who are placing the concerns of ordinary American citizens above those of the wealthy and powerful. We pray for the success of this bill to reduce the flow of immigrants to a manageable level.

- I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you," declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 15:20)

4. Replacing the UN with the Covenant of Democratic Nations - The Times of Israel

For years, foreign policy critics, politicians, and outraged members of the general public have been militating to defund and quit the United Nations. Some have advocated that a rival or successor organization be established. Now, the empty sheet of bitter discontent with the UN has been filled in with a new name, and a new movement calling to "defund and replace" troubled organization with a new world body: The Covenant of Democratic Nations. This writer has been a participating witness to the birth of this movement.

- Father God, we pray blessings upon this effort to create a new, accountable international body.

- Cry out, "Save us, O God of our salvation! Gather and rescue us from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you." (1 Chronicles 16:35)

5. Tie-breaker by VP Pence Secures Confirmation of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary - Breaking Christian News

[Earlier] Senators in opposition to DeVos staged an all-night speaking marathon against her, hoping to draw out at least one more opposition vote. Already, two Republican senators have said they will vote against DeVos.

Critics have also risen up on social media with #holdthefloor and #NoOnDeVos hashtags abounding. A chief concern-that DeVos, a billionaire philanthropist and product of private education, has no experience with or interest in supporting public education. It's a charge her supporters fiercely deny.

In the midst of this political battle, many Believers have noticed that DeVos is a committed Christian who prioritizes her faith.

- Father, we thank You for this confirmation and pray Betsy DeVos will be successful in improving schools across our nation.

- Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. (Psalm 34:11)

6. Homeland Security sec doesn't expect to meet immigration agent hiring goals within two years - Reuters

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly told a congressional panel on Tuesday that he does not expect to meet President Donald Trump's hiring targets for U.S. Customs and Border Protection or Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents within the next two years.

Trump has called for an additional 5,000 Customs and Border Protection agents and 10,0000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in an executive order, but he did not specify a timeline. Kelly said he would not "skip on training and standards" to speed up the pace of hiring.

- Father, we pray for Secretary Kelly's success in hiring and training enough people to secure our nation.

Skillet calling the kettle black

I remember an old saying my parents had: don't be the skillet calling the kettle black. It's the way the old timers explained how someone who is doing a certain act accuses another person of doing that very same act, yet the accused isn't doing the act. I guess psychologists call it "projecting." I would call it judging others from the content of your own heart. But it is becoming a very dangerous phenomena in American society because the socialist/progressive/communist left continues to characterize conservative, law abiding, God-fearing people as homophobes, xenophobes, haters, racists, bigots, fascists, and Nazis. In reality, the actions of the accusers match exactly with the words they use against others.

Herein is just a small example found at the University of Central Florida. It's a "student" organization called the Knights for Socialism, an offshoot of the Orlando Popular Front. The Orlando Popular Front's mission is: "We the People of Orlando reject President Elect Trump and the xenophobic, sexist, and fascist Republican Party. We will stand in absolute resistance to Republican policies that will spit on the civil liberties that our American brothers and sisters have died for. We stand in solidarity with the African American communities, the Latino communities, and the LGBTQIA communities that make Orlando the City Beautiful!" The Knights of Socialism aim to be the enforcers of this resistance.
The Knights of Socialism are hiring an amateur boxer who "will teach us the basics of hand to hand combat. Following his instruction, we will all have the opportunity to face off against one another and practice what we've learned." Their Facebook page says they are holding "Bash the Fash" (meaning fascists) self defense events "In response to the record number of hate crimes against Latinos, immigrants, Muslims, Women, the LGBTQIA+ community, Jews, African Americans and other minorities since the rise of Donald Trump and other Alt-Right Neo Nazis...the event is for everyone EXCEPT REPUBLICANS." This group is characterizing everyone who is white, Christian and conservative as Nazis.
There are no credible statistics that hate crimes against these groups have increased since Trump became President. In fact, illegal immigrants and Islamists have committed an incredible number of crimes against society. There have been numerous documented crimes of leftists beating up Trump supporters, setting people's hair on fire for carrying pro-life signs, and death threats against those who disagree with this rebellious anarchist mob. Yet they accuse decent law abiding people of being fascists. This is the makings of a revolution. The former "president" and Hillary Clinton have encouraged it. We must stand firm as Romans 14:16 admonishes: "Let not then your good be evil spoken of," and in our actions, words and deeds as ambassadors of Christ, speak boldly as we ought to speak (Ephesians 6:20)."
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Statement by Vice-President Mike Pence

A Vote for America's Future

Friends,

Today, I cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate to confirm President Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Education: Betsy DeVos.

The vote the President asked me to cast wasn't just for Betsy - it was also for America's future.

Our nation's success depends on the education of our students. In Betsy DeVos, we have one of America's foremost advocates for educational opportunity and excellence.

For nearly three decades she has devoted her time, her talent, and her treasure to ensure that every child in America has the best shot at a better life. Countless students have benefitted from her efforts to promote an educational marketplace defined by innovation, opportunity, and real, meaningful choice.

The President and I agree that our children's futures should not be determined by their zip code. Students should not be trapped in a system that puts the status quo ahead of a child's success.

Betsy DeVos will have great impact as Secretary of Education. It doesn't matter whether it's a public school, a private school, a parochial school, a charter school, or any other kind of school - she will help ensure that every student has access to a good school.

We are grateful to Senate Majority Leader McConnell and all the Republican Senators who stood with us on this important vote.

The President is fully committed to this mission. Today's vote was the first of its kind in our nation's history, but the real history will be made through our unwavering dedication to America's children - and to America's future.

Thank you for all your help and support.

Sincerely,

Michael R. Pence
Vice President of the United States

IRAN: Two Articles of Interest

Iran is threatening to do something this Friday, Feb. 10. We should be alert and prepared just in case they try to do something to US or Israel. Read these posts from the Times of Israel and Fox News. Remember G-d can protect us from all harm. (Note from a reader)

Khamenei tells Trump Iranian response to threats coming soon - Times of Israel

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday warned the US not to threaten Iran with sanctions, saying American President Donald Trump's brow-beating would see a response in the coming days.

"Trump says fear me! No. The Iranian nation will respond to your comments with a demonstration on the 10th of February," Khamenei said in a speech to military officers in Tehran on Tuesday. "They will show others what kind of stance the nation of Iran takes when threatened," he said.

His comments came in the wake of Trump's statement to reporters on Thursday about whether a military response to Iran was under consideration, following Tehran's illicit ballistic missile test.

"Nothing is off the table," Trump replied, borrowing a phrase Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has used for years vis-à-vis Tehran's nuclear program. Days earlier, a top US administration official had said Iran was "on notice." (Read more)

2. EXCLUSIVE: Iran pulls missile from launchpad after apparent prep for launch, US officials say - Fox News

. . . New satellite imagery from Feb. 3, obtained exclusively by Fox News from ImageSat International and verified by U.S. officials, showed Iran preparing a Safir for launch. That missile is the type Iran has previously used to put a satellite into space.

In a surprising about face, Fox News learned Tuesday morning that Iran's missile had been removed from the launchpad. It was not immediately clear why.

. . . Iran's Supreme Leader on Tuesday issued a new warning to the White House about the coming 38th anniversary of Iran's Revolution this Friday.

"No enemy can paralyze the Iranian nation," Khamenei said. "[Trump] says 'you should be afraid of me'. No! The Iranian people will respond to his words on Feb. 10 and will show their stance against such threats," according to Reuters. (Read more)

Judge Gorsuch: Pro-Life Stand

After 50 Weeks of Prayer, Is This Supreme Court Nominee God's Champion?

By Matt Lockett; Bound 4 Life

Feb. 2, 2017

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump named Judge Neil Gorsuch as his Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia-a lion-hearted defender of the U.S. Constitution's original intent. The Senate Judiciary Committee will now begin its important confirmation hearings, followed by a vote of the full Senate.

It's vital that we all understand the weightiness of what's happening. This justice will sit on the court for perhaps four decades; it is no small decision.

As one who leads a ministry that has been standing and praying outside the Supreme Court for more than 12 years, there are many reasons why I am encouraged by the announcement of this judge. I believe this is a storyline filled with divine promise and encouraging facts. (Read more)

Meteor Puts on a Light Show Over Midwest, and for the Cameras

A fiery meteor streaked across the Midwest sky early Monday morning, seen as far west as Nebraska and as far east as New York.

The American Meteor Society has received more than 350 reports from witnesses of the green fireball, which occurred around 1:25 a.m. local time. William B. Cook, a NASA meteor expert, reported in an email to NASA headquarters that the fireball originated about 60 miles above West Bend, Wis., moving about 38,000 miles an hour toward the northeast before disintegrating about 21 miles above Lake Michigan.

As the meteor fell apart, it emitted low-frequency sounds that were recorded in the Canadian province of Manitoba, about 600 miles away. The blast released energy that was equal to at least 10 tons of TNT, Dr. Cook said, suggesting that the object that entered the atmosphere was at least 600 pounds and two feet in diameter.
