The Middle East in Focus

1. Hamas test-fires long-range rocket into sea off Gaza - Times of Israel

The Palestinian terror group Hamas fired at least one long-range missile into the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the Gaza Strip on Monday morning, in what appeared to be a weapons test.

The booms of detonations could be heard in communities in southern Israel that border the Hamas-ruled territory, Channel 2 reported.

The jihadist group regularly fires rockets as it works to improve its rocket range and accuracy, a little over two years after it last fought Israel. In June, it test-fired dozens of short-range rockets inside Gaza, with Israeli sources estimating that at least 30 projectiles were launched.

2. Commander of Special IDF Commando/Engineering Unit Describes 'Precision' Warfare Against Terrorists, Warns Enemy What to Expect in Next Confrontation With Israel - Algemeiner

In an interview with the Hebrew press on Sunday, the commander of a special commando unit of the IDF Engineering Corps described the changes that have been made in the Israeli army since Operation Protective Edge two years ago, to tackle new and developing threats.

Col. Yaron (last name withheld), who leads Yahalom, told Walla News that it became clear to the top brass after the war that the IDF will encounter such threats in the next confrontation with Hamas in Gaza or with Hezbollah in Lebanon. He said that one of the military's dramatic decisions was to double Yahalom's force from 400 to 900 combat soldiers with expertise in complex engineering missions. These involve maneuvering difficult above-ground and underground terrain, including under tricky weather conditions.

3. Arab bloc foils Israeli attempt to delay UNESCO motion on Jerusalem - Jerusalem Post

UNESCO's executive board is expected on Tuesday to ratify last week's resolution ignoring Jewish ties to the Temple Mount after the Arab group of UNESCO member states, led by Morocco, blocked Israel's attempt to delay the vote, diplomatic sources told The Jerusalem Post.

Two countries friendly to Israel were expected to ask executive board chairman Michael Worbs to move the vote to another date in light of the uproar that had been caused by Thursday's preliminary vote, diplomatic sources said on Monday.

4. UNESCO's Jerusalem resolution ignores Christian roots, too - Times of Israel

Shortly before his death, in what is called the Olivet Discourse, Jesus predicts the fall of the Second Temple and the resulting desolation on the Temple Mount. Recounted in three gospels, this prophecy became foundational theology to the early Christians, who eschewed the most holy site of the Jewish faith when creating their new churches.

But what if not all of them did leave the Temple Mount deserted?

5. Meet Israel's guardians of the special forces - YNET News

Of all the special forces which take part in thwarting Hamas and Hezbollah to build up their capabilities, little if nothing has been written about the forces in the air who fly high above the fighters and assist them in operations which occur far outside of Israel's borders - both on land and at sea.

The Israeli Air Force's transmissions unit, which has been working with the IDF for decades - including during operation Entebbe - has upgraded its capabilities to an unprecedented scale; it can relay transmissions - both voice and video - from commanders in Israel to soldiers operating in any corner of the globe using the most secure transmissions software in the world.

-Father God, we pray for all the members of the Israeli Defense Forces. We ask You to protect and strengthen them. We specifically lift up those guardians who work in the transmissions unit, seeing that the communication between different forces goes smoothly. We ask You to cover them in the blood of Yeshua. In the name of Yeshua we pray, amen.

Every prayer below is presented to our Lord in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

1. Poll: Millennials desperately need to bone up on the history of communism - Market Watch

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, citing survey results released on Monday, blames widespread ignorance for the relatively positive views millennials have toward socialism and communism. Of the 2,300 Americans polled by YouGov, 80% of baby boomers and 91% of the elderly agree with the statement that "communism was and still is a problem" in the world today. Millennials? Only 55%.

'An emerging generation of Americans has little understanding of the collectivist system and its dark history.' Marion Smith, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation

Furthermore, almost half of Americans between the ages of 16 and 20 said they would vote for a socialist, while 21% would go so far as to back a communist. Capitalism, on the other hand, is viewed favorably by 64% of those over the age of 65, compared with only 42% of millennials.

- Father God, we pray our young people would mature past this shallow understanding of history and desire to truly know how these systems of government and economy impact their lives.

-You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace, and terror will not come near. (Isaiah 54:14)

2. Why Are Most Christians Leaders Standing By Trump? - PrayerForceOne

Throughout this presidential campaign it has become embarrassingly clear to most Americans that the choice for president has come down to two very flawed candidates. This has undoubtedly concerned many Christians as they consider who to vote for on November 8th, or whether to even vote at all. To complicate matters even worse, many respected Christian leaders are divided on what to do.

We offer the following collection of expressed sentiments by many such Christian leaders in the hope that their comments will help guide believers as we each make our own prayerful decision of who to vote for in just three short weeks.

- Father, we pray You would expand the reach of this important summary to inform people about their choice for President. Help each voter not be swayed by emotion or slander, but evaluate each candidate based on how they would govern this nation.

- Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. (Psalm 2:10-11)

3. People's tribunal accuses Monsanto of 'ecocide' - Seed Daily

Global activists Friday launched a people's tribunal, accusing giant US seeds firm Monsanto of violating human rights and committing the crime of "ecocide", by posing a "major threat" to the environment.

Monsanto, which produces genetically-modified seeds as well as controversial pesticides, has already dismissed the gathering in The Hague organised by hundreds of grassroots groups as a "parody" with no legal standing, and refused to attend.

But five professional international judges will hear from 30 witnesses, including scientists, farmers and beekeepers, who have travelled from five continents for the three-day event. The aim is to draw up a legal advisory opinion which could be fed into existing law, including writing "ecocide" as a crime into international criminal law.

- Father God, we plead for integrity and purity throughout our food supply. Bring all who corrupt the seeds and the land to justice.

- Then God said, "Let the land sprout with vegetation-every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." And that is what happened. Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. (Genesis 1:11,29)

4. Anyone who flees is shot dead': Mosul locals trapped as Isis digs in for fight - The Guardian

Mosul residents cower in their homes beneath the bombardment - but fear sectarian violence from Shia militias once the besieged city is liberated from Isis. As Iraqi security forces and Kurdish fighters closed in on Mosul, its residents cowered in their homes and braced for what is likely to be a gruelling street battle.

"Everyone is staying at home because we don't know what else to do. Daesh [another name for Islamic State] are mostly moving around on motorbike and have small and heavy guns. The planes started bombing Mosul around 1am today and they are in the sky constantly and occasionally striking targets," Abu Mohammed, a 35-year-old from the east side of the city told the Guardian. He said he thought the airstrikes were mostly precisely targeted on Isis but added: "Daesh are moving into civilian houses and mixing with the population.

5. Vietnam braces for Typhoon Sarika as death toll rises to 31 - Fox News

Vietnam is bracing itself for the full brunt Typhoon Sarika, which has already brought torrential rains and deadly floods on Monday.

The death toll in the country rose to 31 after central parts of Vietnam suffered heavy rains triggered by the typhoon. Authorities are reportedly still searching for a person who was reported missing.

The typhoon reportedly sustained winds of 103 mph and gusts of up to 124 mph.

Sarika is expected to bring heavy rains Tuesday night and Wednesday to the northeastern part of Vietnam. Significant impacts are expected across the region.

You have the power

According to the Washington Post, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is already the winner in the November presidential elections. The Post says that "Clinton is ahead in nearly all of the key battleground states where her campaign has directed the most resources, according to many recent polls...Clinton aids said they see advantages to running up the score in the electoral college, where 270 votes wins the White House. Victories in unexpected places could boost that total, hand her more of a mandate come January and decreasing the potency of Trump's complaints of a "rigged" election." So how do you like a newspaper quoting some political hacks declaring a victor without a vote?

Better get used to it if you don't want to exercise your power to change the election and the nation. You will be told by the media lapdogs that you are not allowed to think on your own because that's hate speech. You will be going underground with any form of Christian evangelism because it is offensive to Islam. You will be told that you are mentally ill because you might want to own a gun for self-defense. You will be told that your children can get abortions and smoke marijuana without your consent. And you will pay the government your hard earned money for the privilege. Is this the type of America you want because you may be too pious to pull the lever for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump?

Some people are resigned to say that we are going to get the president we deserve. This may be true. When you consider that Christians are a vast and overwhelming majority in this nation at about 80% or more, and we sit on our hands decrying that we can't vote for an ungodly candidate. Think of the logic here: As a Christian, we can't vote for Trump, so by throwing a vote away either by not voting or voting for someone who can't win, we are voting for a transforming knight of the dark side, where all the things we say we stand for from a Biblical perspective will be held in great contempt by the victor. This kind of logic is no logic at all. It's like giving up and taking a knee when all you have to do is cross the goal line.

Think of the greater good. For those of you who do, and I know there are many out there, be strong. Speak boldly as you ought to speak. Educate others on the stakes of this election. If you are rejected, just keep trying. Don't lose heart. You have the power to speak truth. Romans 13:11-12 says, "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light." We need to quit listening to the noise, and focus on the source. If 80% of the population, the Christians, were unified and voted together, there would be no question the victor.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

The truth behind positive media for Clinton

The Center for Public Integrity's mission is "To serve democracy by revealing abuses of power, corruption and betrayal of public trust by powerful public and private institutions, using the tools of investigative journalism." It prides itself as being one of the nations oldest and largest nonpartisan, non-profit Pulitzer Prize winning investigative news organizations. So when it reveals that the vast majority of journalists contributing to the presidential election are supporting Democrat Hillary Clinton, one has to look at the gravity of what is being reported. The Center reports some 430 people who work in journalism have donated about $382,000 to Clinton-that's 96% of all the money donated to both candidates from journalists.

The results are as would be expected. One example, reported by the Center says, "New Yorker television critic Emily Nussbaum, a newly minted Pulitzer Prize winner, spent the Republican National Convention pen-pricking presidential nominee Donald Trump as a misogynist shyster running an "ugly and xenophobic campaign." What Nussbaum didn't disclose in her dispatches: she contributed $250 to Democrat Hillary Clinton in April." While $250 doesn't sound like much, it is a statement of tremendous import. In my days of reporting, my personal policy was that I would never show any kind of bias toward a candidate by contributing to the campaign or becoming too cozy with members of a campaign staff.

We can see that isn't the case in this election. Even Trump mentioned in the last debate that it was three to one against him, a reference to how the so-called "impartial moderators" were favoring Clinton. This comes as no surprise, however, as even a May 2015 poll by Rasmussen suggested that the majority of Americans expect biased coverage. Rasmussen reported, "When it comes to the 2016 presidential campaign, only 23% believe most reporters will try to offer unbiased coverage. Fifty-nine percent (59%) think that coverage will be slanted instead, with 36% who say most reporters will try to help Hillary Clinton during the campaign and 23% who say they will try to hurt her bid for the White House instead."

There is an old adage that covers just about anything: Follow the money. The money says that journalists favor Clinton by some 96% of the donations they give. And these are just the ones who do not see it as a conflict of interest to give to a political candidate. Those polled thought the media would be slanted, and the contributions by journalists prove it. They wouldn't be giving to Clinton if they didn't support her. That automatically biases anything they would report. As Isaiah 59:14 says, "And justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter." Truth, indeed, has fallen in the street, and these so-called "journalists" don't even try to hide their iniquity.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
