The Daily Brief Wednesday, May 23, 2012

"Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 'Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.' He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision."
(Psalm 2:1-4)

[A note to our readers: this is an abbreviated edition of the Daily Brief.]

The Daily Brief

1. Obama: Slaughter of Christians a misunderstanding - WND EXCLUSIVE

The violence in northern Nigeria is mistakenly viewed as a religious conflict rather than simply a tribal dispute over land, according to the Obama administration [spoken like a true Moslem]. Despite the ongoing Moslem destruction of churches and the slaughter of Christians - including many murdered during worship services - the U.S. Agency for International Development claims that the misunderstandings make it difficult to administer aid programs. USAID, therefore, has launched a program titled Project PEACE - an acronym for Programming Effectively Against Conflict and Extremism. PEACE says it will hire contractors to help the agency analyze the "true" causes of conflict and consequently provide more effective humanitarian and conflict-resolution assistance, according to planning documents that WND located via database research. The cost of Obama's new "knowledge generation, dissemination and management" initiative is $600 million. The unveiling of PEACE comes as the slaughter of Nigerian Christians is on the rise.

- In the Name of Jesus Christ, we bind the payment of a single taxpayer dollar to the powers that be in Nigeria until the slaughter of Christians there is prohibited! In Jesus' Name, raise up an outcry from Christians in America and around the world - an outcry which includes our voices - that will press the Obama administration into standing up for the persecuted Nigerian church, a stand realized by withholding taxpayer dollars designated for Nigeria.

- "The schemes of the schemer are evil; he devises wicked plans to destroy the poor with lying words." (Isaiah 32:7)

2. Catholic Organizations Sue Obama Administration - Worthy News

The Archdiocese of New York, headed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., headed by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the University of Notre Dame, and 40 other Catholic dioceses and organizations around the country announced on Monday that they are suing the Obama administration for violating their freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution. The Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. has established a special website--preservereligiousfreedom.org--to explain its lawsuit and present news and developments concerning it.

"This lawsuit is about an unprecedented attack by the federal government on one of America's most cherished freedoms: the freedom to practice one's religion without government interference," the archdiocese says on the website. "It is not about whether people have access to certain services; it is about whether the government may force religious institutions and individuals to facilitate and fund services which violate their religious beliefs."

- Lord, we thank You that Your people have risen up boldly to prosecute this infringement on our Constitutional freedom of religion. We ask today that Christians may stand against this oppression as a united force under the banner of Jesus Christ! We pray that the fear of the Almighty may rest so heavily on those who are ignoring the Constitution and Bill of Rights, that they will retreat and withdraw! We bind their efforts to control and oppress Americans, especially Christians. Let the Victory be Yours Lord, in Jesus' Name, Amen!

- "You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the Truth. Selah. That Your beloved may be delivered. Save with Your right hand and hear us!" (Psalm 60: 4,5)

3. Student defends criticism of Obama after being berated by teacher - Fox News

The North Carolina high school student who was berated by his teacher after he spoke critically of Obama told Fox News on Monday that he wanted to "laugh" when he heard the teacher suggest he could be arrested for criticizing a sitting president. Hunter Rogers and his mother Gina spoke to Fox News about the incident and the recording of the argument that later went viral on YouTube. The Salisbury Post reported Monday that district school officials suspended the teacher in the course of their investigation into the incident. The school system said in a statement that it "expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom."

- Thank You Lord, for exposing this teacher's profound bias and threats against this student. Thank You that the district officials took appropriate action. Now, we ask that Your wisdom and courage guide their continued actions. May this case become a constraint to teachers who demand that students conform to their personal viewpoints. In Jesus' name we pray.

- " The speech of a good person clears the air; the words of the wicked pollute it." (Proverbs 10:32)MSG

4. China fake parts' used in US military equipment' - BBC

Vast numbers of counterfeit Chinese electronic parts are being used in US military equipment, a key Senate committee has reported. A year-long probe found 1,800 cases of fake parts in US military aircraft, the Senate Armed Services Committee said. More than 70% of an estimated one million suspect parts were traced back to China. US servicemen rely on a variety of "small, incredibly sophisticated electronic components" found in night vision systems, radios and GPS devices and the failure of a single part could put a soldier at risk. After China, the UK and Canada were found to be the next-largest source countries for fake parts.

- Thank You God, that these multitudes of fake parts were discovered - thereby saving many lives and injuries! We ask Your wisdom for those who make decisions regarding the building of military equipment, that our sons and daughters and nation may be protected. Stop this foolishness, O Lord, of compromising our own safety by contracting with our enemies. We pray that You would raise up industries and jobs within America that build military equipment safely and well, with security and supervision. In Jesus' name.

- " the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." (Proverbs 27:6b)

5. Barak: Iran's readiness to make deal is trickery - Jerusalem Post

Iran is fooling the West in its apparent readiness to reach a deal on its nuclear program, Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned on Tuesday. Amos Gilad, a senior Israeli defense official, predicted that Iran would take a conciliatory tack at the Baghdad talks, while not abandoning its goal of becoming a nuclear power.

"They will be willing to show what appears to be flexibility as long as it doesn't affect their strategic direction, meaning that they will be able to develop nuclear weapons if that decision is made," Gilad told Army Radio.

"Today they have enough uranium, raw material, for the bomb, they have the missiles that can carry them and they have the knowledge to assemble a warhead on a missile," he said. "They have not yet decided to do this because they are worried about the response."

- Heavenly Father, in great mercy You expose the sinister schemes of the enemies of Your people and we thank You! We pray that Israel and all its allies will stand strong against this rogue nation, Iran, determined by their own unashamed confessions to wipe out Israel and western nations in the name of Islam. Hold them back by the power of Your might, in Jesus' name.

- " What other nation on earth is like your people Israel? What other nation, O God, have you redeemed from slavery to be your own people? You made a great name for yourself when you redeemed your people from Egypt. You performed awesome miracles and drove out the nations that stood in their way." (I Chronicles 17:21) NLT

1. Archaeologists unearth hidden gems in Tel Megiddo - Israel Hayom

Archaeologists from Tel Aviv University on Monday unveiled one of the largest ancient finds discovered in Israel dating back to biblical times: The items found in a clay crock discovered at a dig in Tel Megiddo are said to be 3,100 years old, dating back to the Iron Age (1200-550 B.C.E.), at a time when the site was inhabited by a Canaanite tribe.

2. PM: Yielding Temple Mount would be a fatal mistake - Jerusalem Post

Whoever proposes that giving up the heart of Jerusalem - the Temple Mount - will bring peace, is fatally mistaken, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declared on Monday evening.

3. Israel's Undersea Gas Bonanza May Spur Mideastern Strife
- Bloomberg

Egypt's decision last month to stop selling natural gas to Israel could be a harbinger of increasingly confrontational Egyptian-Israeli relations, an indication of a worsening Egyptian economy, or both.

Congress legalizing propaganda against US citizens

Propaganda is defined as "chiefly derogatory information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view; the dissemination of such information as a political strategy." Since 1948, the federal government has been banned by law in using propaganda against its citizens. Texas Republican Mac Thornberry and Washington Democrat Adam Smith have introduced a bill to make it legal for the government to lie to its citizens about certain political causes. The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 (HR 5736) was referred to committee and is likely to be an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2013.

The bill authorizes the government to: "use funds appropriated or otherwise made available for public diplomacy information programs to provide for the preparation, dissemination, and use of information intended for foreign audiences abroad about the United States, its people, and its policies, through press, publications, radio, motion pictures, the Internet, and other information media, including social media, and through information centers, instructors, and other direct or indirect means of communication." The bill has a provision stating that no funds authorized "shall be used to influence public opinion in the United States."

The US has a full propaganda operation disseminating information to foreign countries. A lot of this information is aimed at gaining support for US foreign policy initiatives. This information, however, has been prevented from distribution to the American public because it is considered persuasive material--propaganda. Thanks to Congressmen Thornberry and Smith, this propaganda will likely be used on the American public. And although there is a provision in the bill saying that funds will not be used to influence public opinion in the US, this is only legal doublespeak trying to absolve the government of the responsibility of using propaganda before it puts into practice its program.

Irrespective of Congressmen Thornberry's and Smith's intent, this legislation opens the door for the government to legally lie to the American people. Many would say that the mainstream media is already a propaganda arm of the government. Nevertheless, it will be far more difficult to discern the truth by making propaganda legal. The Congress and the Administration are not painting a very good picture for a free people--property confiscation, spy drones, citizen detention without cause, nationalization of property and resources. The list goes on and on. Yeshua said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." As we enter the end times, deception will prosper. Too bad its being legalized in America.

FDA User-Fee Bill

The Senate will vote on cloture to proceed with debate on the Food and Drug
Administration Safety and Innovation act, S. 3187, late Monday. (5/21) The FDA bill would reauthorize a two user-fee program for brand-name drugs and medical devices that allows the FDA to hire staffers to work on applications. The programs are slated to expire at the end of the fiscal year. The key component to this bill is that it would extend those fees to makers of generic drugs as well. While conservative believe that the FDA has become too powerful and officious in general, we all agree that the same fees should apply across the market. To that end, there is not much too be concerned about with this bill. Nonetheless, like every bill that is considered on the Senate floor, there will be non-germane amendments that will receive votes.

Also, we must watch to make sure that Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) doesn't drop a "manager's amendment" late in the game that contains nanny-state food mandates or special interest handouts. This bill should remain uncontroversial, but Democrats have a bad habit of using mission creep to institute statism in the most innocuous pieces of legislation. Stay tuned for more updates at our main website. The House is expected to take up the bill some time in June.

Violence Against Women Act (Reauthorization)

Last Wednesday, the House approved the Republican version of the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization (H.R. 4970) by a vote of 222-205. The bill reauthorizes $660 million in funding for five years for programs of dubious effectiveness. The only saving grace of this bill is that it doesn't contain the harmful new provisions that add transsexual social engineering programs and additional visas for those involved in domestic violence that are contained in the Senate bill. The Senate passed an extension with the help of 15 Republicans several weeks ago that contained numerous points of concern (you can read about them in this issue of The Madisonian). It's unclear if and when the Senate will vote to convene a conference with the House on the final product. Either way, we must insist that the conference report not resemble anything similar to the Senate version.
