The Daily Brief

1. Russia and China join forces in "de-dollarization" of currency reserves

According to the statement made by Vladimir Putin during his recent visit to Shanghai, Russia and China have reached an unprecedented level of cooperation that encompasses aspects ranging from energy trading to military drills. Moreover, the Russian President suggests that the two countries are working together in order modify the existing practices regarding currency reserves management. Washington should be very concerned.

2. Iran calls to destroy nuclear capacities of US, Israel

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier-General Hossein Dehqan said Sunday that discussion about the destruction of the United States's and Israel's nuclear weapons capabilities should immediately follow current talks with the international community on Iran's nuclear program.

3. White House blows cover of CIA chief in Afghanistan

4. At Least Six Dead in California Killing Spree

The man featured in a disturbing YouTube video who went on a killing spree murdering at least six and wounding several more was identified Saturday evening by authorities as Elliot Rodger, 22.

- Father, we intercede for the families who lost their loved ones in this killing spree. May Your mercy, grace, and comfort hover over them.

- "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."(2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

5. Study: New Technology Development Pushed by Feds Allows For Data Collection on Every Child

A new study released by the Boston-based Pioneer Institute finds that new technology development that has been encouraged through the use of federal grants has served to threaten children's privacy by allowing the collection of data on every child.

- Father, we pray an increased awareness among parents regarding this data collection on children. We ask protection over this data as more private companies donate education apps to schools in exchange for children's information. We ask that Congress would be aggressive on passing student privacy laws. In Jesus Name.

- Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. (Matthew 10:16)

6. Obama blames Founding Fathers' 'structural' design of Congress for gridlock

President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the "disadvantage" of having each state represented equally in the Senate.

- Father, we pray protection over the Founding Fathers' structural design of Congress. We can't re-arrange everything so that one man can move his agenda forward. This design has proven effective for many years. We ask You to preserve America's history, and the structural design our Founding Fathers' - through Your wisdom - built.

- "Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual. ... Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us." (John Hancock quote)

Freedom in the Lord

You are an heir to freedom if you know the Lord. This is and has been a distinguishing characteristic of being American. From the time of the first settlers in Fort Caroline, Jamestown, and Plymouth, American soil has been home to Christians who sought to practice their religion free from persecution and to evangelize Native Americans. They well knew the cost of being Christian as well as the price for freedom. The ideal of Americanism was found within the hearts and souls of these pioneers with great understanding of natural rights endowed by God that they may live free, have free enterprise, worship freely and speak freely. As Jesus said in John 8:36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

God is the essence of freedom. Jesus explained in John 8:34-35, "...Whosever commits sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abides not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever." In this we see that only through Jesus can we be free from sin. The Apostle Paul further explains in Galatians that we are not of the bondwoman (the line of Ishmael), "Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free (vs 4:30-31). Galatians 5:1 says, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
Such freedom comes at an earthly cost. Jesus died for it. Paul notes this freedom in Christ in Ephesians 5:8, "Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man does, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free." Paul points out that our real Master is in heaven. He then urges us "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." In verses 19-20, he says, "And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."

To exercise our freedom in Christ we must "stand against the wiles of the devil" and "speak boldly" as we ought to speak. Freedom in Christ and speaking the gospel boldly are firmly instructed in the Holy Scriptures, AND also found in our Constitution's First Amendment guarantee. Our government was built upon the foundation of religious freedom and free speech. This is unique to any other form of government. Socialism, Communism, Statism, Dictatorships, etc., seek to have government replace God as the provider of rights to the governed. This is against God, and those who promote it are sinning against God. Your heritage in Christ is one of freedom from bondage, know it, speak it, and stand for it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

What Happened To "Hope & Change"?

What Happened To "Hope & Change"?

Liberals who love big government are losing their patience with the Obama Administration. (More on that below.) From the epic failure that was the launch of Obamacare to the VA scandal, there has been little change in the way government works (or doesn't) and "hope" is the last thing Americans see in Washington, D.C.

In what some are calling the "Bagram Blunder," the latest embarrassment involves this weekend's leaking of the CIA's top officer in Afghanistan. In announcing Obama's surprise visit to Bagram Air Force Base Sunday, the White House accidently blasted the name of the CIA's "chief of station" out to a nationwide media list of 6,000 individuals before someone at the Washington Post reported the error. Not surprisingly, the White House blamed it on the Pentagon.

When the Bush Administration "outed" a veteran CIA operative, Democrats demanded a special prosecutor and Scooter Libby went to jail on unrelated charges. This isn't another scandal per se, but it is another example of this administration's consistent, gross incompetence.

As former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said, "In a White House that is filled with press flacks ... was there no one who understood the significance of what they were doing? ... This is utter incompetence." Perhaps Obama's campaign slogan of "hope and change" should have been "corruption and incompetence."

The corruption is clear. From the IRS to the VA, a myriad of scandals is plaguing the Obama Administration. But the incompetence of this left-wing gang is routinely on display -- from colossal failures like the Obamacare website to the infamous Syrian "red line."

Obama has made numerous foreign policy mistakes that a student fresh out of Foreign Service school would know to avoid. As a result, he looks like a fool around the world and America's credibility has been shattered. (Gary Bauer)

VA Turns To Private Sector

VA Turns To Private Sector

Here's another embarrassment that is frustrating liberal Democrats. Attempting to address the growing scandal at more than two dozen VA hospitals across the country, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki announced over the weekend that the VA would allow veterans to get care at private hospitals.

What irony! Just as Obamacare begins to kick-in, a major government-run health care bureaucracy is turning to the private sector for help. In fact, several left-wing advocates for socialized health care pointed to the VA as their model! (Gary Bauer)

No Change in Ban on Transgender Troops

No Change in Ban on Transgender Troops

The Pentagon is not reviewing or planning to review its policy that bans transgenders from military service, a defense official said Monday.

The official's statement came a day after Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told ABC News the prohibition on transsexuals and cross-dressers "continually should be reviewed."

This past Monday, the defense official said, "Bottom line, right now there are not any plans for a review to start." (Washington Times) Read more.

Is it only a matter of time? Our U.S. military has long been a focus for social experimentation with its personnel, starting perhaps when former Sen. Patricia Schroeder, serving on the Armed Services Committee, pushed for greater female involvement in all branches. We do not fault Ms. Schroeder for her feminist convictions, but let us remember that America elects its leaders, and we must live with our choices. We now have women in combat, and transgender issues front and center, both of which violate God's intentions. Pray for a united, repentant Church to emerge with spiritual renewal, desiring God's presence and upholding the Creator's design.
- "[God] created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created." (Genesis 5:2)

- "But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, 'Why have you made me like this?'" (Romans 9:20)

Russia and China: Best Frenemies

Russia and China: Best Frenemies

Russia and China began joint naval drills this week in the East China Sea. Known as Joint Sea-2014, the week long drills will be a combined operation acting against a hypothetical aggressor rather than the two countries operating separately during the exercise. This is the first time the Chinese navy has worked so closely with a foreign maritime force.

While the two countries have previously held joint military exercises, defense analysts state that China and Russia are learning from the example set by Western countries, such as war games currently underway with NATO, where separate military forces mix together. It also directly demonstrates a dramatic increase in trust between Beijing and Moscow.

The drill, being held in the East China Sea between Shanghai and Japan, includes ships, submarines, fixed-wing aircraft and shipboard helicopters. The exercises are reported to include defensive and attacking maneuvers, anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue operations, the storming hijacked ships, as well as joint efforts to identify aircraft flying over the East China Sea, where Beijing recently established a highly controversial air defense identification zone.

On Tuesday the 20th, the second day of the drills, Russia carried out yet another test firing of a TOPOL-M nuclear capable intercontinental ballistic missile from a launch facility approximately 450 miles from the Ukrainian border. As opposed to using an impact range on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Pacific, this time a target range in Kazakhstan was utilized, well away from the ongoing joint military drills.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the purpose of the launch was to test a new combat payload for future ICBMs reportedly capable of carrying up to 10 advanced warheads and hypersonic vehicles.

In order to fill out the picture of the increasing closeness of ties between Russia and China, we thought it would be useful to note that Russian President Vladimir Putin was in Beijing during the first three days of the military drills, during which he signed a massive $400 billion dollar natural gas supply agreement with the Chinese, one which the industry refers to as the "Holy Grail" of gas deals. The agreement is viewed as a windfall for both countries. For Russia, it means the addition of a major natural gas customer at a time where the West is imposing sanctions, and for the Chinese, as they are reported to have scored major price concessions, as well as the fact that the product will be delivered via overland pipelines as opposed to by sea. It is also importan t to point out that the two countries will settle payments in Rubles and Yuan, adding to the list of countries moving away from the increasingly troubled petro-dollar.
Your world is rapidly changing. The Asia-Pacific region is quickly becoming the next global hotspot. Conflicts are simmering between China and Japan, China and Taiwan, China and the Philippines, China and Vietnam, there is a military coup currently underway in Thailand and the U.S. is seemingly right in the middle of it all due to the ongoing pivot of military forces to the region as well as defense alliances with a number of different nations. The Good News Corner:

Israel and Iran Pray for Each Other

A profound gesture of peace between Israel and Iran has been made at a conference in Jerusalem aimed at strengthening bonds of reconciliation between the sons of Abraham.

(Israel)-Arab Christian delegates from all over the Middle East have been invited to At the Crossroads being held at Christ Church, in the heart of the Old City, to share fellowship with Jewish followers of Jesus.

Among those present is an Iranian pastor based in the UK. But when a conference organizer reminded his audience that Iran had not always been a sworn enemy of Israel vowing to destroy them-in fact they used to be allies-he took the opportunity to pray a blessing over that country, asking God to re-open the gates between them so they would once more be friends.
The pastor, Youhana Darvishi*, then returned the favor by praying a blessing over Israel.

Another conference spokesman said many had paid a high price for attending; indeed it was at risk to their lives in some cases as Christians are undergoing tremendous persecution in a number of Muslim-background countries.

The previous-and inaugural-Crossroads event in 2012 has already borne much fruit as those who attended began to help each other in various ways. One Israeli believer put his life on the line no less than 30 times in order to bring aid to suffering Christians in Syria.

Reuven Berger, pastor of a Hebrew congregation meeting at Christ Church on Saturdays, reminded his hearers that "Abraham loved Ishmael very much" and that God promised a blessing to Ishmael as well as Isaac, from whom the Jews are descended.

Reuven's parents, respectively German and Austrian, managed to flee the Nazis in 1938 but his grandparents were sadly trapped in Europe and murdered.

He said: "We are seeing more and more people from a Muslim background receiving the faith of Jesus, the Messiah. God is bringing Isaac and Ishmael together . . ."

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
