The Daily Brief

1. In Africa, an Islamist convergence seen as a threat - Washington Times

The Islamist militant group Boko Haram has conducted terrorist attacks in Nigeria that bring it closer to al Qaeda in northern Mali, making linkages between the groups more likely and more dangerous, according to a paper published by the Combating Terrorism Center.

Terrorist recruiting in Minneapolis under Congressional cover?

There have been two recent reports circulating about terrorists recruiting in Minneapolis. One is by AP discussing Somalis gathering at the Essential Learning of Minnesota Institute, which is no less an Islamic center run by Omer Abdi Mohamed. Mohamed is a 27 year old Islamist who plead guilty last year to a single terror-related count and has been free pending sentencing. He was arrested again in connection to another trial this month fingering him as a lead recruiter for the Somali based terrorist group al-Shabab linked to al Qaeda. Another report by ABC News indicates that the FBI says Minneapolis is a recruiting ground for young Americans to travel to Somalia and train with al-Shabab. But there is more.
Enter Hakim Mohammed, AKA Keith Ellison. Ellison is the first openly Islamic Congressmen elected to the US House of Representatives. He is a Democrat who happens to represent the "Twin Cities" of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Minneapolis StarTribune reported on March 8, 2011: "Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison will go before a House panel on homegrown Islamic terrorism later this week, but he won't be sitting with fellow members of Congress. He'll be at the witness table. Ellison, a Muslim whose Minneapolis district has been fertile recruitment ground for Al-Shabab insurgents in Somalia, calls the GOP-led inquiry a "McCarthyistic" witch hunt that could demonize Muslims."
Ellison's March 10 testimony submitted in prepared remarks to the House Committee on Homeland Security attacked the federal government for not engaging with the Minneapolis Islamic community and denied Chairman Peter King's assessment that the Muslim community there, including Imams, refused to cooperate with authorities in investigating local terrorist recruitment. Ellison said, "Unfortunately, some leaders continue to misrepresent events in my own community of Minneapolis...This sweeping statement regarding the community I represent is simply not true." Ellison contends that holding the Muslim community accountable for the acts of a few individuals is wrong.
Evidence suggests that the community is involved and that those who Ellison represents in Congress are involved. He says he is "an activist who happens to be a Congressman." He was among the first to support the Muslim Brotherhood instigated takeover of Egypt. He is among the defenders of his community not being part of a terrorist recruiting network, when there is overwhelming evidence otherwise. Maybe Americans ought to be asking if the full weight of Ellison's Congressional power is serving as a cover to this activity instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt. As in Isaiah 21:2, "A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously."
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

TWO STATES CONFRONT U.N. "OBSERVERS"

Secretary of state: Voting monitors face arrest in Iowa

DES MOINES - Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz warned a group of international voting monitors that they face arrest if they monitor polling locations in Iowa next week.

"My office met with two delegation representatives last week to discuss Iowa's election process, and it was explained to them that they are not permitted at the polls," Schultz said in a statement released Tuesday. "Iowa law is very specific about who is permitted at polling places, and there is no exception for members of this group."

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe plans to send observers from its Office for Democratic Institutions to Iowa and other states. According to the group's website, members have been meeting with election officials and political party workers since last month to discuss their observation plans in the United States.

Attempts to reach Thomas Rymer, spokesman for the Office of Democratic Institutions, were not successful Tuesday.

Schultz said he supports the efforts of other nations to learn about the U.S. election process, but pointed to a statute in Iowa code that limits the number of people at a particular polling place. That section of code, with few exceptions, allows poll watchers from political parties, news media and campaigns to be at polling locations.
Schultz spokesman Chad Olsen said the Secretary of State's Office will leave it up to local county officials how to handle outside observers.

"But if they do show up at a polling location, because they are not allowed to do so under Iowa law, local elections officials can request that they be removed if they refuse to do so. That could be the poll workers at the site, or the county auditor or county attorney," Olsen wrote in an email.

"They violate the statute just by showing up and maintaining a presence within 300 feet of a polling location. They are aware of the statute, and did indicate at the meeting last week that they had no intention of violating Iowa law, but then apparently were seeking permission from county auditors to do so anyway."

Tim Albrecht, spokesman for Gov. Terry Branstad, said the governor agrees with the secretary of state.

"The governor believes Iowa Code should be followed, and supports Matt Schultz's efforts to uphold the law," Albrecht wrote in an email.

Texas threatens to arrest international monitors sent to watch US election

A handful of international election monitors have touched down in the US to swing by polling places next month when voters cast ballots for the president, but officials in the state of Texas have issued them a warning: you're not welcome.

State Attorney General Greg Abbott has sent a scathing letter to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, threatening to arrest any of the election auditors that have been dispatched to America to ensure that voters won't be disenfranchised, discriminated against or intimidated when they take to the polls on November 6.

. . . "Recent state-level legislative initiatives to limit early voting and introduce stricter voter identification have become highly polarized," the OSCE writes in an interim report filed earlier this month. "Democrats are concerned that these would disenfranchise eligible voters, while Republicans believe they are necessary to protect the integrity of the vote."

In response to the request to look over the American presidential election, the Vienna, Austria-based organization agreed to deploy 44 monitors to the United States earlier this month to watch for any wrongdoing, but those auditors are being told that Texas won't stand for any interference from abroad.

In a letter sent this week from Attorney General Abbott, the state's leading lawyer writes, "The OSCE's representatives are not authorized by Texas law to enter a polling place," warning, "It may be a criminal offense for OSCE's representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place's entrance."

"Failure to comply with these requirements could subject the OSCE's representatives to criminal prosecution for violating state law," Abbott added. (RT News) Read more.

- Offer a chorus of praise that these two states, Iowa and Texas, will have no part of this scheme but will instead confront these international intruders with the law of the land in their own jurisdictions. Pray that many more states will put the OSCE on notice before next Tuesday that they are not welcome there, either.

U.N. observers are normally sent to monitor elections in third-world countries, where corruption is rampant. The United States of America is not a third-world country! Ask our Lord to cause the reports of these "monitors" to be lost in the wind of His Spirit, and end up being of no effect. Pray!
- "Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us." (Isaiah 8:10)

Benghazi-gate Continues

Benghazi-gate Continues

On "Face The Nation" Sunday, Senator John McCain unleashed a broadside against the Obama White House over its handling of the Benghazi attacks. He referred to Obama's response to the attack as "the worst cover-up or incompetence that I have ever observed in my life."

Tuesday night on Fox News, former Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested that the liberal media may be protecting Obama. Here's what he said:

"There is a rumor -- I want to be clear, it's a rumor -- that at least two networks have emails from the National Security Adviser's office telling a counterterrorism group to stand down. But they were [in] a group in real-time trying to mobilize Marines and C-130s and the fighter aircraft, and they were told explicitly by the White House stand down and do nothing. 'This is not a terrorist action.' If that is true, and I've been told this by a fairly reliable U.S. senator, if that is true and comes out, I think it raises enormous questions about the president's role, and Tom Donilon, the National Security Adviser's role, the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta . . . "
Gingrich's rumor would confirm a Fox report from last week that officials at a CIA annex in Benghazi had requested military support multiple times during the attack on the consulate. Each time their requests were denied. Stay tuned. (Gary Bauer)

More Voting Machine "Malfunctions"

More Electronic Voting Machines Changing Romney Votes to Obama:

We Looked Into It and Here's What a Vendor Told Us

Last week, TheBlaze brought you a story from a North Carolina voting precinct using electronic voting machines that was already experiencing issues where votes for GOP candidate Mitt Romney were being changed to Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Now, it's allegedly happening again, this time in both Kansas and Ohio - and we talked to a vendor supporting the machines about the issue.

Nancy from Topeka, Kan., who asked that her last name not be used for reasons pertaining to her husband's work, told TheBlaze she fears if voters aren't double checking their selections, they'll be "robbed of their vote." Nancy explained that while her husband was casting a vote for Romney, the touchscreen highlighted Obama.

"He played around with the field a little and realized that in order to vote for Romney, his finger had to be exactly on the mark," Nancy wrote in an email. She said "the invisible Obama field came down about 1/4 [of an inch]" into what should technically have been the Romney area. In a phone interview with TheBlaze, she explained further that her husband said he felt the area on the touchscreen that could be pushed to vote for Obama was larger than that for Romney. Nancy and her husband called the Kansas Secretary of State to report the problem and were informed that it was most likely a calibration issue. "My concern is, is this intentional?" Nancy said. Posing this question to the Secretary of State's office, Nancy told us they said it is unlikely that voter fraud would be occurring in Kansas, as it's not a highly contested state.
The Marion Star also reported Wednesday that Ohio resident Joan Stevens experienced a similar case. [See above: Daily Brief #6.] She alerted a board of elections member at the voting location about the problem, who then called in the vendor providing support for the machines to check for calibration issues. Sophia Rogers, director of the Marion County Board of Elections, told TheBlaze the Marion Star "got it wrong." She said when techs came out to review the machine, they found everything was calibrated correctly. The Marion Star reported Rogers saying the machine seemed to have been working fine for her and other voters as well. Still, the local newspaper did note Stevens saying that board of elections member Jackie Smith mentioned to her that the machine had been experiencing issues all day. Smith did not issue a comment to the Marion Star.
Regardless if there was issue or not, the fact remains that direct-recording electronic voting machines can experience calibration issues. It's something that happens every election, and when voters come across a machine not recording their vote correctly, they should report it. With such seemingly inevitable issues, which to be fair do not occur with every machine, TheBlaze decided to look into who was responsible for making sure the machines was calibrated in the first place; how calibration issues occur; and how the problems are fixed.
In Marion, for example, Rogers told TheBlaze it is standard procedure to call in a technician from the vendor to tend to the machine in question. She referred us to the vendor of their touch-screen machines Dominion Voting. Spokesman for Dominion Chris Riggall told TheBlaze that many of the machines in the field - which he says are "legacy machines" not manufactured by Dominion but by companies that Dominion now owns - are up to 10 years old. "They have been in the field many years and through many election cycles," Riggall said. "It is certainly possible [for them to get] out of calibration."
As when you purchase any electronic, you can sign up for a warranty or added customer support. The same concept applies to voting machine technology. Riggall said he believes the Marion jurisdiction does receive support from Dominion for its machines, meaning it could be called in to check and fix calibration issues. He said there is a calibration test built into the machine's software and that the machine can also be tested through a sample ballot, which of course would not be cast as an actual vote. "It is not uncommon to put a unit back into service when [officials] are 100 percent confident it is registering correctly," Riggall said. Although Marion may have vendors helping in such situations, Riggall said tech support provided for machines is jurisdiction dependent. It is up to the states or jurisdictions to decide how often machines will be checked for accuracy, and who will perform this check and fix problems when they occur. (The Blaze) Read more.
- Father, we take authority over this voting fraud in the Name of Jesus and by the power of His Blood. We pray for the release of Your angelic host to put a stop to any and all attempts to sway this election out of the hands of the people of America.

Dramatic Twist in Iran

DRAMATIC TWIST: IRAN USED UP SOME OF ITS URANIUM THIS SUMMER, PUSHING BACK "MOMENT OF TRUTH" 8 TO 10 MONTHS

Joel C. Rosenberg

(Washington, D.C., October 31, 2012) -- In a startling and very positive new twist to the intense drama unfolding in the Middle East, the prospect for an all-out Israeli-Iranian war now appears to have been pushed back by eight to ten months.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak was interviewed by a British newspaper this week. Barak indicated that while events could change yet again, it would now appear that the likelihood of a major war with Iran before next fall has been significantly reduced.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is currently in France. He told the Paris-Match that an Israeli first strike on Iran would be welcomed by the Arab world, which fears the Persians getting the Bomb. Still, he, too, is telling French President Francois Hollande and senior officials in Paris that war isn't imminent and is asking them to press forward with even tougher economic sanctions on Iran.
This is a welcome relief and a huge answer to prayer. With the prospect of war seeming imminent just a few weeks ago -- for reasons I explain in the new ebook, "Israel At War: Inside The Nuclear Showdown With Iran" -- Christians all over the world have been praying for peace, according to Psalm 122:6, which commands believers to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem."
Iran's decision to step back from the brink of building the Bomb has, for now, relieved tensions with the Obama administration. It has enabled Netanyahu to feel comfortable to call for new Israeli national elections in February. It is encouraging Jewish and Christian tourists to continue visiting Israel. Indeed, The Joshua Fund tour of Israel and 2013 Epicenter Conference remains on track for next June. Please visit www.joshuafund.net and sign up to join us. We would be honored to have you with us.
What I find intriguing is that Barak indicates that war was increasingly likely this fall. The Israelis were preparing to hit Iran before the U.S. elections. But by the grace of God, something happened in Iran that unexpectedly changed the dynamic. Here's the story as we know it so far . . .
[To read the rest of this story, and find the linke to The Telegraph interview with Barak -- and/or to read an excerpt from the new e-book, ISRAEL AT WAR; or to find links to the latest news and analysis of events and trends in the U.S., Israel, North Africa, Russia, and the Middle East -- please go here.]

Former Terrorist an Evangelist for Christ

"It was just amazing to me that I was a man preparing young boys and girls to hate Christianity." - Dr. Daniel Shayesteh

(Bowling Green, KY)-On Friday, October 12, Hope in Messiah Church featured guest speaker Dr. Daniel Shayesteh, a former terrorist and the co-founder of Hezbollah in Iran who used to persecute Jews and Christians but is now a Christian evangelist.

According to the church's website, Shayesteh was a militant revolutionary who helped overthrow the Shah of Iran in 1979. As a subsequent leader in the Ayatollah Khomeini's regime, he co-founded Hezbollah in both Iran and Lebanon. He was wholly committed to the destruction of Israel and America.
But when Shayesteh decided to turn against the Ayatollah's regime, he was sent to a "death prison" in Turkey where he studied other faiths. It was there he was converted to Christianity and ultimately escaped the region.

"It was just amazing to me that I was a man preparing young boys and girls to hate Christianity," said Shayesteh.

Today, according to his bio at Crown College in Minnesota, Dr. Shayesteh is a National Evangelist for The Christian and Missionary organization "Exodus from Darkness." He also operates a satellite television program broadcast to millions of Muslims around the world.
Notes the college website: "Dr. Shayesteh calls for us to 'search for truth together' and is confident that people who search openly will discover as he has, that eternal confidence is found only in Jesus Christ."
