The Daily Brief Wednesday, June 13, 2012

"He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked." (Isaiah 11:4)

The Daily Brief

1. UN: Syrian army uses children as 'human shields'
- Ynet News

Syrian troops have tortured children, executed them and used children as young as eight as "human shields" during military raids against rebels, according to a UN report released Tuesday. Human rights groups estimate that about 1,200 children have died during the 15-month uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, whose brutal crackdown on Arab Spring-inspired protests has been widely condemned.

"Most child victims of torture described being beaten, blindfolded, subjected to stress positions, whipped with heavy electrical cables, scarred by cigarette burns and, in one recorded case, subjected to electrical shock to the genitals," said the UN report. The New York-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) said the UN Security Council should impose an arms embargo and other sanctions on the Assad government over its violations against children.

- Lord, we pray that this slaughter of Syrian children by their own people will be stopped. May there be wise and effective intervention to halt these actions. Open the eyes of the Syrians, and cause them to cry out to You, and find You as their refuge and strong tower. We intercede on behalf of Christians in Syria, asking You for supernatural intervention, miracles, and protection. In Jesus' name we pray!

- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
(Psalm 91:10-11)

2. Feds Sue Florida Over Voter Purge - CNN

Obama administration sues Florida in an attempt to stop Gov. Rick Scott's administration's efforts to purge voter rolls of non-US citizens, saying the effort has 'critical imperfections' that could violate civil rights. Florida last year began looking for non-U.S. citizens on the voter rolls. A comparison of driver's license (DMV) records with voter registration records turned up as many as 182,000 registered voters who may not be U.S. citizens.

- In the Name of Jesus, we bind every effort that fosters fraudulent voting! Father, let Your eyes be upon us in mercy as we ask You to bring to light all who conspire against the legal voting process. We pray that those who are not citizens will not be allowed to vote anywhere in our nation, as is fitting and proper under law. Protect every leader who is working to insure legal upcoming elections, and prosper their efforts over those who attack them. In Jesus' Name we ask for Your protection and help in this matter.

- " For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who practice evil [to oppose them, to frustrate, and defeat them]." (1 Peter 3:12) (AMP)

3. Senator calls for Holder's resignation amid challenges over leak probe, Fast and Furious
- Fox News

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, made the call for Holder's resignation during a Senate hearing late Tuesday morning. It came in the context of GOP concerns about Holder's decision to appoint two lawyers from within his department to handle the politically sensitive leak probe -- as well as concerns about Fast and Furious. "I would say that you leave me no alternative but to join those that call upon you to resign your office," Cornyn said. "Americans deserve an attorney general that will be honest with them, they deserve an attorney general who will uphold the basic standards of political independence and accountability. You've proven time and time again, sadly, that you're unwilling to do so." " I don't have any intention of resigning," (Holder) said.

The leaks, and the subsequent investigation announcement, have prompted a political firestorm on Capitol Hill. Republicans have charged that top officials in the Obama administration cleared the leaks in order to furnish information to reporters that would help make the president look strong in an election year.

- Lord, we thank You for making clear to the American people the enormity of highly classified information leaks repeatedly occurring under the current administration. As lives, and allies, and efforts against our enemies have been compromised, we ask You to raise up strong leaders who will further expose the sources of these leaks, and hold them fully accountable under the law. We pray for the safety of those whose lives have been threatened because of these leaks, and the Fast and Furious operation. Strengthen the righteous in leadership above their enemies, as we pray in the power of Jesus' name!

- " For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should be brought to light. "
(Mark 4:22)

4. Anti-gay-marriage measure qualifies for Wash. state ballot - USA Today

A referendum that seeks to nullify Washington state's recent law legalizing same-sex marriage has qualified for the November ballot, election officials announced today.

- Lord, we thank You, that again and again the American people have risen up through legal means and votes to stand overwhelmingly united against legalizing homosexual marriage. Even though our own President is outspokenly in favor of homosexual marriage - against the expressed will of the majority of Americans - we pray that You will bring great victories in Washington State, and across the nation for the preservation of Your Word and Your will, and the families of America. In Jesus name!

- " Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord, But the blameless in their ways are His delight." (Proverbs 11:20)

5. Group Calls Military Bibles a National Security Threat - Fox News

The U.S. Military has revoked its approval of a series of military-themed Bibles, reportedly over trademark issues. Now, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is demanding that all remaining versions of the Bibles be removed from base exchanges -- calling them a "threat to national security."

Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, told Fox News he was extremely disappointed in the decision to remove the military edition Bibles from exchange stores - and called the move "cowardly." "These Bibles cost the Department of Defense nothing, and their presence is legally legitimate," Crews said. "Therefore, no reason exists for the DoD to retreat in the face of the small anti-religious group that demanded removal of the Bibles." Crews pointed out that military personnel dating back to General George Washington have taken counsel and been encouraged by biblical texts.

- Lord, military leadership has taken progressive actions in recent years to remove Your name and Your Word from those who serve - and we pray for a reversal of this trend in the power of Jesus name! May there be an overwhelming increase of hunger for You and Your Word throughout members of the military, and their families, and the DoD. Lord be honored in our nation's defenses! You alone are our Hope and Shield.

- " My son, give attention to My Words, incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are LIFE to those who find them." (Proverbs 4:20-22)

The Middle East in Focus

The P5 plus 1 meeting and prophecy

The headlines in the Middle East are very active. Iran is a the center of them. Russia is hosting a meeting of the P5 plus 1 on June 18 and 19. This consists of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany. They are meeting to discuss how to curtail Iran's nuclear program. Of course, Russia and China traditionally have been the "nay" votes on anything that might place hard international pressure on Iran to give up its quest for what many consider a nuclear weapon. For Iran's part, it has used negotiations for nearly a decade to stall action against it, and to use that time to work even harder on advancing its nuclear program. The prophetic implications here are enormous.

Many Christian prophetic sites and end time watchmen are pointing to the events leading up to this meeting and predicting that a collapse of the talks could signal the end of the world. In reality, there is a lot that must happen before the end time battle, known as "The Day of the LORD" prophesied in some way in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, Matthew, Luke, Acts, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Timothy, 2 Peter, and Revelation (and I may have missed a few). On the timeline of the end times, The Day of the LORD is at the end of the Great Tribulation, not at the beginning.

These current events are prophetically significant because most of the nations that come against Israel in that colossal end times battle are very active in the news today. Keep in mind that the antichrist figure mentioned in the vast majority of the Day of the LORD prophecies is called "the Assyrian." the Assyrian empire then is where part of modern Turkey is today. In fact, reliable sources, meaning those without a political axe to grind against Russia or the Roman Catholic Church, place Magog, Meshech and Tubal in Turkey, not in Russia/Moscow nor in the former Roman Empire. These locations were, however, part of the Ottoman Empire that reigned over the region from 1299 to 1923.

The primary nations embroiled in controversy against Israel include Iran, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, and Libya. Saudi Arabia, the home of Mecca and Islam, is playing the entire world, plying it with oil and becoming richer and more influential. These are days where the end times are fast coming into focus. Yeshua said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." 1 John 2:22 says, "Who is a liar but he that denies that Yeshua is the Messiah? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son." The most powerful existing force on earth today that denies the Messiah is Islam. All the named nations coming against Israel in the Biblical end times are Islamic. Keep your faith intact. Read the Bible with understanding that false teachers may not deceive you.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
